Cedric Alexander Reflects On Monday Night RAW, Being A Role Model

Cedric Alexander continues to enjoy his run of success on Monday Night RAW since moving to the red brand. On this week’s episode, Alexander picked up a huge victory over WWE United States Champion, AJ Styles. This win has given him the opportunity to challenge Styles for the belt at this Sunday’s Clash of Champions pay-per-view.

Alexander recently appeared on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio. During their conversation, he looked back on the past few weeks, including being able to share the ring (and a beer) with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.

“You know, it’s scary, it’s one of those things that I never thought would happen, but now that it is, it’s almost unbelievable, you know what I mean?” Alexander said. “To the point where I try to describe how I feel about this, about being, you know, closer to the top of WWE, and things like Madison Square Garden, and just sharing a beer with Stone Cold, and getting a win over AJ Styles, it’s almost like sensory overload. Everything’s happening so fast. To me, it just means that all the hard work that I’ve done for the last 10 years doesn’t go in vain.”

When asked about how he deals with being a role model for people who look up to him, Alexander admitted he still doesn’t know how to handle it. He reflected on how he looked up to wrestlers like AJ Styles and Chris Hero as personal heroes, adding that to be treated in the same way is a humbling experience.

Rey Mysterio Returning To Raw Next Week, Cedric Alexander On His Recent Success

WWE has announced that after his segment with son Dominick on last week’s Raw, Rey Mysterio will be returning to next week’s episode of the show from Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.

Last week’s episode of Monday Night Raw saw Rey in a backstage segment. He appeared to be ready to announce his retirement from in-ring competition after losing a 2 out of 3 falls match to Andrade during the August 12th episode of the show.

However, his son Dominick interfered before Mysterio could announce his retirement. Dominick reminded the former World Champion about his promise to have a tag team match on his debut and successfully persuaded him into continuing his career.

Cedric Alexander On His Recent Success

Cedric Alexander has been enjoying some success in the past few weeks. He has been in the spotlight for his performance and also won a couple of important matches in the past 2 weeks.

After his win on this week’s episode of Raw, Alexander was asked about his journey from the second-round loss in the Cruiserweight Classic tournament to his current position on Raw. Replying to it he said that the CWC tournament was where he made his name:

Cedric Alexander defeated Sami Zayn in the first round of the King Of The Ring tournament last week. After defeating Drew McIntyre on this week’s episode of Raw, he is now scheduled to face Baron Corbin in the quarterfinals of the tournament next week.

Cedric Alexander Reveals How Paul Heyman Has Helped Him

Raw Star Cedric Alexander recently spoke to ProWrestlingSheet on a number of matters and among other things, the former 205 Live Star also discussed Paul Heyman helping him with his presentation.

Cedric first talked about his match with Sami Zayn. He said that he has followed Sami’s career and he is excited to go head to head with the former NXT Champion.

Revealing how Heyman has helped him with his presentation, the former Cruiserweight Classic competitor said that Paul has helped him with his mic skills and also given him pointers on how to project himself better:

“It’s been great working with Paul; he’s really helped me feel more comfortable. He saw a match I had with Bobby Roode months ago on an episode of Main Event and he was a very big fan of it. He’s given me pointers on how to project myself better to fans and small little show business quirks.

While Cedric has not had any meaningful rivalry since his move to Raw in April yet, the lightweight star recently had a few spotlight moments when he got involved in the storyline between Roman Reigns and Shane McMahon.

Alexander jumped off of a part of the titantron set that displays the entrance videos during a recent episode of Monday Night Raw. His fearless jump led to comparisons with the likes of Shane McMahon and Jeff Hardy.

Talking about the angle and his jump, the Raw Star said that it’s awesome to think that the moment will be played on the show on a loop for many years to come.

Apart from this, Cedric Alexander also talked about the upcoming King Of The Ring tournament and more. You can check out his full interview at this link.

Backstage News On Cedric Alexander Being Reigns’ Partner On RAW, Graveyard Dogs Merch

Roman Reigns faced off against Drew McIntyre and Shane McMahon this past Monday on RAW. His opponents had spent the night searching for a tag team partner for Reigns and ended up finding janitor, Gary “The GOAT” Garbutt.

Garbutt, donned in a luchador mask to conceal his identity, would reveal himself to be former 205 Live Superstar and current RAW roster member, Cedric Alexander.

Turns out that WWE was initially going to use a local wrestler as enhancement talent for the match but decided to go with Alexander instead, according to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com.

He noted that “over the course of the day, there was a pitch for Cedric Alexander to do the spots instead. We are told there will be a follow-up to Alexander’s involvement on RAW Monday.”

Alexander wouldn’t manage to participate too much in the matchup past an impressive initial flurry. He would eventually receive a Claymore Kick courtesy of Drew McIntyre before being pinned for the three count by Shane McMahon. After Reigns helped him to unlace his mask, Alexander removed it and showcased that he had become a little bit bloody during the in-ring exchange.

Graveyard Dogs

Speaking of Roman Reigns, WWE has released some official merchandise ahead of his matchup at this Sunday’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view.

Reigns will be teaming for The Undertaker to take on Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre.

Riffing off of both Superstar’s insistence to refer to the ring as their “yard”, the shirt is emblazoned with the slogan “We Run This Yard”.

The back of the shirt also seems to reveal that WWE has given the pair a name—one that they may be referred to as by commentary on Sunday: Graveyard Dogs.

Their tag team is being treated as a one-time partnership at this point in time, with no plans to have the two continue wrestling together past Extreme Rules. In theory, that makes this shirt somewhat limited edition.

  • highlights of Hideo Itami beating Mustafa Ali last month were shown. The commentators speculated on if Ali came back from injury too soon.

Rush got up on the commentary booth after the match and clapped for Dar. The Scottish Supernova invited the 23-year-old piece of gold into the ring but Rush declined.

Cedric Alexander defeated TJP

Even though Cedric Alexander’s next title defense is scheduled to be against Buddy Murphy at Super Show-down on October 6th, he’s still got unfinished business with several on the roster.

Alexander attempted to call-out Gulak for his frequent attacks but TJP came out instead. TJP said he wasn’t very good at waiting in line. They agreed to a non-title match, which Alexander won via Lumbar-Check.

After the match, Drew Gulak finally came out to answer Alexander’s call-out. While Alexander was paying attention to him, however, Jack Gallagher attacked him from behind. Cedric Alexander & Tye Dillinger’s Old Controversial Tweets Come Back To Haunt Them

It looks like some old Tweets from WWE Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander and SmackDown Live star Tye Dillinger are coming back to haunt them.

Some fans dug up some old Tweets from the pair which are pretty insensitive to rape. Both Tweets are several years old, as Alexander’s was allegedly from 2012 while Dillinger’s is from 2011.

Here are the Tweets:

Both men have since deleted the Tweets. Dillinger actually issued out an apology for them, while Alexander deleted all Tweets that he has ever made from his account:

Alexander & Dillinger In WWE

Alexander, a former Ring Of Honor (ROH) star, signed with WWE back in 2016 after competing in the Cruiserweight Classic Tournament. After a small run on NXT, Alexander debuted on 205 Live. At WrestleMania 34 Alexander won the Cruiserweight Title when he defeated Mustafa Ali. Alexander defeated four men, including Ali, to capture the then-vacant title.

Dillinger’s initial run with WWE started back in 2006. He was sent to the company’s then-developmental territory of Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). When WWE decided to relaunch ECW, Dillinger was one of the Superstars called up from Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) for the project.

He was released after only a few months. Dillinger returned to the independent circuit for four years before once again getting the call from WWE. He joined NXT, where he remained for four years and was then finally called up to the main roster.

Dillinger made his SmackDown Live debut on April 4th of 2017. He has yet to win a title under the WWE’s banner.

Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander vs Former Cruiserweight Champions

This isn’t the first time Cedric Alexander has taken a shot at a departed champion on Twitter. During a back-and-forth with Lio Rush, Alexander took a shot at Enzo Amore as well.

“This coming from the kid who wants to be a fake rapper,” Alexander Tweeted at Lio Rush. “We had one of those on 205Live. You wanna end up like him? I suggest you watch your mouth youngster.”

Alexander won the Cruiserweight Championship following a 16-man single-elimination tournament earlier this year. The tournament was scheduled by 205 Live General Manager Drake Maverick following the title being vacated when Enzo Amore was released by the company.

#1 Contenders Match Scheduled For 205 Live Next Week

Cedric Alexander is now the second longest reigning Cruiserweight Champion in the title’s short lineage. He is currently at 101 days as champion, 96 days short of Neville’s 197-day record.

Last night on 205 Live, General Manager Drake Maverick made an announcement regarding who Alexander’s next title defense will be against. Maverick announced a #1 contenders match for next week featuring 4 of the division’s top-ranked competitors.

Next week, Mustafa Ali, TJP, Hideo Itami, and Drew Gulak will meet in a fatal 4-way match. The winner will earn a title shot against Cedric Alexander.

205 Live Title Picture

Alexander won the title by defeating Mustafa Ali in the finals of a tournament to declare a new champion. The title had been vacated after Enzo Amore was released from the company. Alexander defeated Mustafa Ali on the WrestleMania 34 Kickoff show.

Since then, Alexander has defended the title against Kalisto, Buddy Murphy, and most recently, Hideo Itami.

Smackdown Live 7/10/18 Preview

Team Hell No Kick-Off Smackdown

  • MizTV will kick off Smackdown tonight. The Miz’s guests will be Daniel Bryan and Kane.
  • While not invited on the show, one might suspect Team Hell No’s opponents at Extreme Rules, the Bludgeon Brothers, might make an appearance.
  • Even though Bryan and the Miz aren’t currently in a program with one another, the two long-time rivals always have an interesting back and forth whenever they are in the same segment.

AJ Styles vs Shinsuke Nakamura

  • At Extreme Rules, both AJ and Nakamura will have championship matches. Styles will defend the WWE Championship against Rusev and Nakamura will challenge Jeff Hardy for the US title.
  • This will be the 7th match between the two (not including house shows). They are 2-2-2 against one another:

  • Ellsworth’s return to WWE at the Money in the Bank PPV caused enough of a distraction to allow Carmella to pull off a huge upset and defend her title.
  • Asuka might be looking for revenge tonight but rest assured Carmella is probably looking for an opportunity to soften up her opponent for Sunday.

Tye Dillinger vs Samoa Joe

  • Last week in a WWE exclusive, R-Truth volunteered up Tye Dillinger to take on Samoa Joe this week.
  • Truth had originally been trying to recruit Tye as his newest tag-team partner but some comic hijinks resulted in Truth challenging Joe on Tye’s behalf instead.

Sin Cara vs Andrade “Cien” Almas

  • In a match that has been pushed to the back-burner for a few weeks, Andrade Almas will finally face Sin Cara tonight.
  • The angle they have been going with is that Sin Cara and Almas used to be friends but now Almas has adopted a new outlook under the guidance of Zelina Vega.

205 Live 7/10/18 Preview

Only one match/segment is scheduled for 205 Live tonight.

Cruiserweight Championship Match
Cedric Alexander (c) vs Hideo Itami

  • Cedric Alexander insisted 205 Live General Manager, Drake Maverick, make this match as Itami defeated top-contenders Buddy Murphy and Mustafa Ali in a triple threat match on June 19th.
  • Maverick was hesitant only because Itami has been interfering in matches and the GM didn’t want to reward bad behavior.
  • Alexander is the 8th champion in the title’s lineage and the belt is currently in its 10th reign.
  • Not including house shows, Alexander will be attempting to defend the belt for the 3rd time.
  • Should Alexander be victorious tonight, his reign will move into the second longest all-time position, passing Enzo Amore’s 2nd run with the belt of 93 days. The longest reign in title history was Neville’s 197-day run between January and August of 2017.
  • Neville’s 7-title defenses during this reign is also a record.

https://twitter.com/WWEMaverick/status/1014482196760088576

This week on 205 Live, Mustafa Ali and Buddy Murphy would meet in a no disqualification match. The winner of the match is likely in a position to challenge the winner of Hideo Itami vs Cedric Alexander title match next week.

205 Live Results 7/3/18

Century Link Center
Omaha, NE

1. Noam Dar defeated TJP

  • TJP has been asking Drake Maverick to give him better competition for several weeks now. Maverick told him he had picked his opponent for this week himself. TJP questioned whether Maverick should actually be doing this every week, seeing as he is the GM of the brand.
  • Noam Dar was the surprise opponent. The returning Scottish SuperNova made short work of TJP.

2. Akira Tozawa defeated Jason Strife

  • Lio Rush came out to do guest commentary during this match.
  • This was the 3rd straight victory for Tozawa on 205 Live. He defeated Tony Nese last week and another local talent 2 weeks before that. His last loss was to Drew Gulak on an episode of Main Event from June 4th, 2018.
  • After the match, Lio Rush said, unlike Tozawa he doesn’t wait for anything.
  • Rush then challenged Tozawa to a future match.

3. Mustafa Ali defeated Buddy Murphy (no disqualification match)

  • Ali started the match off with a diving senton to the outside on top of Murphy and things just kind of went from there.
  • Some of the big spots included Ali giving Murphy a Spanish fly from the guardrail on top of an announce table. Ali also gave Murphy a super-plex from the top an over-turned set of steel steps. Murphy also used the steps to jump over the ring ropes onto Ali.
  • The finish of the match began when Ali got tied up in the ring ropes and Murphy delivered several running knees to his face. After untying Ali, Murphy went for the pin but only got a close 2-count. Ali then fought back and gave Murphy a tornado DDT off the steel steps and got the 3-count for the win.
  • The commentators suggested Ali will be watching next week’s title match closely.

Cedric Alexander Rips Lio Rush and Enzo Amore On Twitter

WWE Cruiserweight Champion, Cedric Alexander, recently took the time to put Lio Rush in his place on Twitter. He got in a shot at former Cruiserweight Champion, Enzo Amore, as well.

Rush earned himself some heat late last year after posting an insensitive remark concerning Emma following her WWE release. His upcoming debut in the cruiserweight division is currently being built up on episodes of 205 Live with a series of vignettes. Possibly in response to his reputation, Rush is being portrayed as an arrogant and entitled young prospect.

Rush and Alexander have been having a back and forth on Twitter recently.

Cedric Alexander and Lio Rush Beef on Twitter

Rush then seemed to acknowledge Alexander’s joke and laughed along with him.

https://twitter.com/itsLioRush/status/1007462392719138816

The most significant comment was given by Alexander, who roasted both Rush and Enzo Amore in the same comment:

https://twitter.com/CedricAlexander/status/1007468316657676288

“This coming from the kid who wants to be a fake rapper. We had one of those on 205Live,” Alexander pointed out. “You wanna end up like him? I suggest you watch your mouth youngster.”

Lio Rush in NXT

The 23-year-old Rush has been competing on the NXT live tours but has not wrestled much on NXT television since signing with the company last year. Rush has only had 2 single’s matches on WWE programming thus far and he lost both of them. He has lost to Lars Sullivan earlier this year and to the Velveteen Dream late last year.

Cedric Alexander’s Cruiserweight Title Reign

Alexander is the 8th wrestler to wear the title and is currently defending the championship’s 10th reign. He’s held the title since WrestleMania 34 when he defeated Mustafa Ali in the finals of a tournament to declare a new champion. Since that time, he has successfully defended the title against Kalisto at the Greatest Royal Rumble and Buddy Murphy on 205 Live from May 29th, 2018.

Buddy Murphy To Challenge For Cedric Alexander’s CW Title on May 29th

WWE has recently confirmed that the next challenger for Cedric Alexander’s championship will be Buddy Murphy. The match will take place on the May 29th, 2018 edition of 205 Live.

The event is scheduled to take place from the PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.

WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Buddy Murphy vs Cedric Alexander

This is the match 205 Live has been building towards for weeks. Murphy had previously earned a title match but had it rescinded by General Manager, Drake Maverick after he failed to make weight.

Murphy had won a fatal 4-way match against Akira Tozawa, Kalisto, and TJP to earn the right to challenge Alexander before failing to make weight. Kalisto then won a gauntlet match to earn a Cruiserweight title match at the Greatest Royal Rumble.

After making weight, Murphy has won three straight on 205 live including a victory over Kalisto. His main event victory over Mustafa Ali this week avenged his only loss since arriving on 205 Live. Ali defeated Murphy in the semifinals of the recent cruiserweight tournament. Murphy explained the loss by stating he was still getting used to the weight cut at the time.

205 Live tonight will emanate from the Bell Center in Montreal. Last week on the show, Kalisto won a gauntlet match to earn the right to challenge Cedric Alexander for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship at the Greatest Royal Rumble.

205 Live GM, Drake Maverick, recently sent out the following:

WWE.com is also advertising we should find out more about Alexander’s next title challenger tonight.

205 Live

Cedric Alexander defeated Kalisto in Jeddah in what was his first televised defense of the Cruiserweight title. He defended the title successfully 4x against Drew Gulak on a recent tour of South Africa, however.

Also waiting in the wings for Alexander is Buddy Murphy. After failing to make weight on a recent episode of 205 Live, GM Drake Maverick rescinded a title match he had preivously earned. We should find out more tonight regarding if Murphy’s title shot will be rescheduled at any point. Murphy will need to successfully make the 205lbs weight limit first, however.

While it still has yet to be acknowledged on WWE programming, 205 Live is also preparing to introduce tag-team titles. Teams such as the Lucha House Party (Lince Dorado, Gran Metalik, and Kalisto) and Hideo Itami & Akira Tozawa are beginning to become established. Other teams, such as Jack Gallagher & the Brian Kendrick could also be added to a Crusierweight tag-team division.

Also building on 205 Live at the moment is a potential feud between former allies, Tony Nese and Drew Gulak.

Following their appearance at the Greatest Royal Rumble on Friday in Saudi Arabia, it will be interesting to see if the Daivari brothers make an appearance in Montreal tonight. The younger Daivari brother issued an apology recently on Twitter to anyone who was offended by his segment at the Greatest Royal Rumble. The Daivari brothers played up their Iranian heritage to generate heat with the Saudi Arabian crowd. It was the first time the two brothers had been in a WWE ring together.

“Intercontinental Champion Roman Reigns has been fined $5,000 for shoving referee John Cone during his title defense against Samoa Joe on Raw last night, WWE.com can confirm.

“The incident occurred after Reigns backed Joe into the corner of the ring and continued to attack him past the official’s count. When Cone attempted to intercede, Reigns shoved him aside to continue his attack. The champion was subsequently disqualified, though he kept his title as a result of champion’s advantage.”

JBL Reacts To Getting Snubbed On WWE List, 205 Live Star Teases Challenging Roman Reigns

– As we’ve previously noted, WWE did an article on WWE Superstars who have won every active title in the company today. The list featured names such as Daniel Bryan, Chris Jericho, and Roman Reigns who captured the Intercontinental Championship from The Miz on RAW this past Monday.

JBL took to Twitter to react to being left out of the mix, however, it should be noted that the World Tag Team Championship that he won was retired in August of 2010. Therefore, he technically hasn’t won every title currently active in the company today:

– In regards to Roman Reigns’ Intercontinental Title run it was noted that he is expected to hold open challenges for the title. 205 Live star Cedrick Alexander teased accepting one of those challenges:

Tessa Blanchard Talks About Cedric Alexander Helping Her With Training, Advice From Carlito, More

Tessa Blanchard spoke with the Orlando Sentinel to promote the Mae Young Classic on the WWE Network. Here are the highlights:

Cedric Alexander being instrumental in helping her with training:

“If I ever needed anything, they would help me. After hours, I would train, train, train, six or seven days a week, until 2 or 3 in the morning sometimes. After a long day, Cedric [Alexander] would say, ‘Hey Tessa, let’s get in there and have a 45-minute match and call it on the fly.’ That’s helped turn me into the athlete I am today. I’m so grateful for all of those hardships.”

Advice from former WWE Superstar Carlito:

“I was going through this time where I thought, ‘Why don’t people like me? Why is it so tough right now? Why do people think I’m only here because of [my family ties]?’ Carlito looked at me and he was like, ‘Tessa, you don’t need to apologize for who your dad is, you don’t need to apologize for what family you’re in. You were born that way. But you do need to work hard and you do need to back it up.’ That stuck with me and that’s what I’ve been doing the last four years.”

205 Live Highlights: I Quit Match, Alicia Fox Dumped Again

It was an eventful night in 205 Live last night. The show aired from the At&T centre in San Antonio. The main event featured an “I Quit Match” between Noam Dar and Cedric Alexander.

205 Live
July 12th 2017
AT&T Centre

  • The show opened with Tozawa speaking to Titus O’Neil (who was on speaker phone).
  • Titus told him he will get a rematch for the cruiserweight title.
  • Daivari came in and cut a really good promo somewhat out of the blue, about how prestigious wrestling is in Iran.
  • He also lets Tozawa know they have a match later tonight.

1. Akira Tozawa vs. Ariya Daivari

  • Once Tozawa gained the upper hand in this match, Neville hit the ring and attacked him.
  • Neville put Tozawa in the Rings of Saturn as we build towards a rematch between the two.

Winner: No Contest (match thrown out after interference from Neville)

  • Highlights are shown of Drew Gulak attempting, and missing, a high flying move against Mustafa Ali last week.
  • Gulak cuts a backstage promo, similar to a politician giving an apology for some scandal. He admits he “…dove”.
  • He then challenged Mustafa Ali to another match next week to determine once and for all whose approach to wrestling is better. It will be a 2-out-of-3 falls match.

2. Rich Swann vs. Mario Connors

  • Before the match could get started, TJP’s 8-bit music begins to play, and he walked to ringside.
  • TJP definitely had heel mannerisms while walking to the ring area.
  • Swann picked up the victory with the Phoenix Splash as TJP watched on.

Winner: Rich Swann

  • TJP got in the ring after and told Swann he could beat the guy in half the time. Then he decided he was going to wrestle Mario as well.
  • He also asked that Swann’s time to beat Mario be put on the screen so he can try and beat it.

3. TJP vs. Mario Connors

  • TJP only needed 28 seconds to beat Mario with the Detonation Kick.
  • Swann watched on.

Winner: TJP

  • Brian Kendrick came dressed up as Jack Gallagher.
  • Kendrick doesn’t like that Gallagher is turning wrestling into something cartoonish.
  • He called Gallagher a “2nd rate William Regal”.
  • This brought out Gallagher who said he was a “1st rate Jack Gallagher”.
  • Kendrick ended the segment by beating up Gallagher with the umbrella.

4. I Quit Match
Noam Dar vs. Cedric Alexander

  • I wonder if after this Cedric Alexander really will be done with Noam Dar and Alicia Fox. It seems likely, but this angle has found a way to seemingly never die.
  • Alexander picked up the victory after wrapping Noam’s arm in a chair and repeatedly stomping on it until he quit.

Winner: Cedric Alexander

  • After the match Cedric Alexander got on the mic and told Alicia Fox that he also quit her. This led the crowd to chant “yes! yes!”.
  • He said he was never really into her.
  • Noam said that at 23 he was the youngest member of the roster, and he is a world class athlete. Says he has a woman in every city and ever continent and was just using Alicia Fox.
  • Said Alicia Fox has become more trouble than she’s worth and that she means nothing to him.
  • Cameras focussed on a teary-eyed Alicia Fox to close the show.
