Kurt Angle Gives his Pick for who Should Play Him in a Movie

Kurt Angle has had one of the greatest wrestling careers ever, even before he entered the WWF in 1999.

In 1996, Angle won gold at the Atlanta Summer Games, despite suffering a broken neck in the process.

Joining the WWF three years later, Kurt would win his first of five WWE World Championships in his rookie year before leaving in 2006.

Angle’s Actor

Earlier this month, it was reported that WWE has purchased the rights to a documentary about the Olympic Gold Medalist.

This documentary will cover Angle’s early years and journey to WWE.

Speaking on his podcast, Kurt discussed the doc, and who would play him in a possible dramatization of his life (via Sportskeeda.)

“I do want Chad Gable; if I ever do a movie, I want Chad Gable to play me because I love the kid, and he reminds me a lot of myself.”

There’s no word yet on if WWE will incorporate any dramatized scenes as part of their documentary on Kurt’s life and career.

Angle and Gable

While it was Chad’s tag-team partner Jason Jordan who was revealed as Kurt Angle’s son in 2017, Gable and Angle have a lot in common.

Both are former Olympians, with Gable having represented Team U.S.A. in wrestling at the London 2012 Summer games.

Angle faced Gable on the March 18, 2019, episode of Monday Night Raw, in one of the WWE Hall of Famer’s final matches.

Kurt Angle Hopes to Manage Stable of Olympians in WWE

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has said he hopes to manage a team of Olympians one day should he one day return to the company.

Angle joined the WWF in 1998 and debuted on TV in late 1999, becoming the first Olympic Gold Medalist to join Vince McMahon’s promotion.

Speaking on his podcast ‘The Kurt Angle Show,’ the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion discussed his idea after saying he missed out on managing American Alpha.

“I’d like to manage the olympians… When Gable Steveson starts his career, he and Chad Gable, that would be the new Team Angle. I would love that.”

Kurt Angle.

Gable competed at the London 2012 Summer Games in the 84kg category but didn’t win a medal.

Steveson captured gold for Team U.S.A at last year’s Summer Games in Tokyo, competing in the 125kg weight class.

He signed with WWE in September 2021, becoming the second Olympic Gold Medalist (behind Angle) to do so.

In addition to Gable and Steveson, Ronda Rousey is also a former Olympian having won Bronze in the Women’s Judo (70kg) at the 2008 Beijing Summer Games.

The Original Team Angle

Charlie Haas says Russ Haas was supposed to be a part of Team Angle
Benjamin, Angle, and Haas as ‘Team Angle’ in 2003.

Kurt Angle is no stranger to managing young Superstars, as he managed Team Angle in 2003.

Comprising of Angle, Charlie Haas, and Shelton Benjamin, the group came together as part of Kurt’s feud with Brock Lesnar, though they failed to prevent Lesnar from winning the WWE Championship from Angle at WrestleMania 19.

After Kurt took time off to recover from an injury, the team would split upon his return with Haas and Benjamin being redubbed ‘The World’s Greatest Tag Team.’

The Miz Names One WWE Superstar Whose Character Is A “Money Maker”

The Miz has one WWE superstar in mind who he believes has money written all over him.

If there’s one thing The Miz knows about, it’s longevity under Vince McMahon’s empire. Miz has been on the WWE main roster since 2006. Along the way, he became a two-time WWE Champion and headlined WrestleMania 27.

Miz has seen many come and go over the years and he’s impressed by the growth of one performer in particular.

The Miz Has High Hopes For Chad Gable

Miz was a guest on the Out of Character podcast with Ryan Satin. During the show, “The A-Lister” reflected on Chad Gable’s road to his current character.

“Chad Gable first came in with Jason Jordan, right? Amazing tag team, incredible. Didn’t click, like didn’t get to the upper echelons but won things and did stuff and was in there.

“Then they took him and said, ‘Alright, you’re gonna be a singles competitor, you’re gonna be Shorty G.’ And everyone was like, ‘What?! What?!’ Honestly, sometimes it’s just to see like, ‘I see something in you, let’s see if we can get something out of you. Let’s see if we can find something that’s different than everybody else.’

“Most times the fans or the critics will be like, ‘Why are they doing this? This guy went to the Olympics.’ We’re just trying to find something here. In my mind, that’s what they’re doing. So, then he did, he took it and I thought he did exceptional at it. He didn’t get to the upper echelons or whatever but he took that character and made something out of it.”

Miz said that Gable has finally found what works for him and he sees a lot of green for the leader of the Alpha Academy.

“Now you look at Chad Gable, guess what? He found his voice, he found his character and now you look at him and you go, ‘Oh wow, this is a money maker. This character is a money maker.'”

Chad Gable Discusses Frustration With WWE Career

Chad Gable seemed to have a bright future ahead in NXT when he was part of the American Alpha. However, things haven’t gone his way since then. The former NXT star recently appeared on Corey Graves’ After The Bell podcast. During the episode, he opened up about his frustrations with his career.

Gable discussed how having a WrestleMania moment is the goal of any WWE superstar. Gable’s only Mania appearance took place in 2017 where he competed in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal. The WWE star mentioned how hasn’t even been able to find a place for himself in the card since then:

“As it is with any superstar in WWE, your goal is to have that moment at WrestleMania, to get your match, and I’ve never come close to that. Not only have I not come close, there’s been years where I haven’t even been on, and that was last year and that was the year before.”

Chad Gable Is Frustrated With His Work Not Paying Off

Chad Gable continued by explaining how working very hard every year for things to not be paid off in the end is very frustrating:

“I still treat it like I would a big amateur wrestling tournament, like WrestleMania is our big one. I’ll get myself ready. I’ll get in better shape. I’ll mentally prepare better because it’s our big event.

To do all that work every year and not have it pay off, or not feel like it paid off, is so frustrating. It’s almost like a mission this year to make it happen more than ever.”

The American Alpha were called up to the main roster during the 2016 draft. The duo won the SmackDown tag team championships once, but Gable’s career went downhill after Jason Jordan retired from active competition.

Alpha Academy Win WWE Raw Tag Team Titles

The Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Otis) are the new Raw Tag Team Champions as they beat RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Riddle) on Monday’s episode of Raw.

The finish saw Orton dodging a charge from Gable, who in the process was able to tag in Otis. This led to Gable blocking an RKO attempt and shoved Orton into Otis, who then pinned Orton with a forward slam.

Orton and Riddle won the titles from  AJ Styles and Omos at SummerSlam back in August. They successfully defended the titles at Day 1 back on January 1, defeating The Street Profits. Their reign lasted for over 140 days

Last week on Raw, Alpha Academy defeated RK-Bro in a non-title match. In that match to earn this title match opportunity. The finish of that bout saw Otis pin Riddle after Riddle had attempted an RKO.

The story heading into the title change was Orton telling Riddle to tag him in when he was in trouble. He even went as far as writing it on Riddle’s hands in the gorilla position right before they went out for the match.

Kurt Angle Talks If Chad Gable Should Leave WWE

Former WWE Superstar and Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently spoke about Chad Gable on The Kurt Angle Show podcast. Angle was talking about how underutilized Gable is in the company, and how he may have to leave WWE to get a revamp to his character and presentation.

“I think this kid has so much potential” Kurt Angle began on the podcast, talking about Gable. “I know the company started pushing him, then they laid off, then they pushed him and laid off.”

“I don’t know if it has to do with his size, but the guy’s amazing” Angle added. “In real life, he can whoop any of those wrestlers asses.”

Kurt Angle on Chad Gable

“He’s a real life badass and to not have him go to the main event level where he deserves to be, it blows my mind” Kurt Angle continued. “He is a very talented, great technical wrestler, former Olympian, you can’t ask for anything more than that.”#

Kurt Angle finished by talking Chad Gable potentially leaving WWE and going to New Japan Pro Wrestling. It’s interesting that Angle chose NJPW specifically, although it is a promotion he has some experience with, having worked with them whilst in TNA.

“I think so, [although] I wouldn’t encourage him to do it,” Angle stated. “I wouldn’t give anybody that type of advice, I’d want them to do what they’re comfortable with doing but Chad does need a makeover.”

“Him going there [NJPW] and getting more experience and coming back with a different character with something with a subtle change, I think that would really help him” Angle concluded. “I’m not saying he should do it, I’m just saying it’s not bad advice to go ahead and do that.”

Dax Harwood Tweet Sparks Speculation About Chad Gable’s WWE Status

A lot of people believe that Chad Gable deserves more opportunities than he has been given in WWE and now a new tweet from an AEW star has started speculation about his status with the company.

Alpha Academy member Otis recently took on his Twitter to send birthday wishes to his trainer and the former American Alpha member also responded to the tweet saying Otis was his #1 guy.

What’s interesting here is that AEW star Dax Harwood also took note of this exchange and posting a reply of his own, he claimed that Gable is not allowed to respond to him for ‘2 more months’:

This tweet from the former WWE tag champion has started speculations about the status and future of Alpha Academy leader with many wondering if we could see him leaving the company soon.

Chad Gable signed with WWE in 2013. While he had a pretty successful run in NXT as part of the American Alpha tag team with Jason Jordan, his career has dwindled after their move to the main roster and the break up of the duo.

His run as Shorty G had led to criticism about WWE management’s handling of the star and even though he quit the gimmick late last year, Gable hasn’t done much since then either.

Dax Harwood: I Want Chad Gable In All Elite Wrestling

AEW star Dax Harwood recently appeared on a special AdFreeShows watchalong as part of the ARN podcast. Harwood joined AEW on-screen coach and former WWE agent Arn Anderson to discuss The Revival vs American Alpha from NXT Takeover Dallas in 2016.

The match is heralded as one of the greatest tag team bouts in WWE history; with the team now known as FTR losing the belts to Chad Gable and Jason Jordan.

During the special ‘Top Guy’ AdFreeShows watchalong, Dax Harwood stated how all four men became best friends during their run of NXT house shows working the tag team match. Harwood also stated that Jason Jordan is probably one of the hardest working performers he has ever been in the ring with. Dax clarified also that Jordan is right up there in talent with the aforementioned Chad Gable.

“That’s what separates you. That’s what separates the wrestlers from guys who are playing wrestler” Dax Harwood stated during the stream; discussing the nuance and intricacy of the match. “Theres guys who can go in there and do some athletic, crazy stuff. And I wish I could, but if you believe in your heart that you’re the best? If you believe that you’re the biggest badass in the world? Nobody can beat you, you’re gonna look legit.”

Dax Harwood on Chad Gable

Dax Harwood then finished by saying that All Elite should look at getting Chad Gable brought into the company. “I think we should get Gable into AEW, but that’s just my thought.”

Whilst Chad Gable’s WWE contract status is not clear? The phrasing from Harwood seemed to indicate that this could be a possibility, although there’s no way to truly determine if that’s the case without speaking to Gable. The former NXT Tag Team Champion Chad Gable has been used on SmackDown more over the past few weeks; running his Alpha Academy with Otis and also helping Daniel Bryan.

There’s clearly a huge upside to be had with Chad Gable as a legitimate singles star. Back in his NXT days there was a lot of comparisons made to another former amateur wrestler with charisma, Kurt Angle.

A fan on Twitter stated that they agree with Dax Harwood’s opinion about Chad Gable. Harwood said that most people don’t even know how good Gable really is.

Do you agree with Dax Harwood? Do you think that Chad Gable should head to AEW? Let us know in the comments

Chad Gable Wants A ‘Dream Match’ With This Top WWE Superstar

Chad Gable has been helping Otis in training under his Alpha Academy and former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan has also seemingly joined this storyline to train for the upcoming Royal Rumble PPV.

The former American Alpha member recently appeared on WWE’s The Bump where he talked about things like being friends with Otis since 2010 and more.

During the interview, he also talked about how he has watched Daniel Bryan wrestle since 2002 and Gable said that competing against the former world champion is a dream match for him.

“That’s a dream of mine. That’s the dream match of mine, I haven’t gotten to the point yet in WWE where I’ve had a chance at singles championships. I want stakes to be there when I finally get that chance to wrestle Daniel.

I want something to be at stake. I want a championship to be at stake.” said Chad Gable, “I want time and to make this a technical classic. If we get that chance, I, without a shadow of a doubt, it’s going to be a legendary classic that you look back on.”

The former NXT star mentioned how many people have talked about this match and he claimed it will live up to the expectations when it finally happens because he will make sure of it.

Apart from this, Chad Gable also provided some interesting update on his former partner Jason Jordan and revealed that Jordan is actually working towards an in ring return. You can check out his comments on the matter at this link.

Chad Gable Says Jason Jordan Is Working Towards WWE In-Ring Return

It turns out that Jason Jordan isn’t giving up hope regarding a possible in-ring return.

Chad Gable, the former tag team partner of Jordan, made an appearance on today’s episode of WWE’s The Bump. Around the 58-minute mark, Gable reflected on teaming up with Jordan.

This is where he noted that Jordan is working towards to a potential comeback.

“Just speaking from a personal standpoint, he became one of my best friends throughout the process and still is. It’s unfortunate what happened with his injury, but you never say never. He’s working on it. He’s trying to get back, and who knows? A reunion is always something that I would never be against.”

Jordan and Gable won both the NXT and SmackDown Tag Team Championships as a tag team together before they were separated in 2017 during the Superstar Shake-Up. Jordan would later win the Raw Tag Team Titles with Seth Rollins.

Jordan had neck surgery in early 2018 and still hasn’t been cleared to return to in-ring action. It’s been reported that the likelihood of him wrestling again isn’t likely.

On the flip side, Gable would go onto win the Tag Team Titles on the red brand with Robert Roode. He is currently a member of the Friday Night SmackDown where he’s paired with Otis.

Chad Gable Shares Championship Goals, Names WWE ‘Dream Opponent’

Chad Gable has revealed which WWE Superstar is his “dream opponent” during an interview with WWE’s After the Bell podcast.

Having shared his championship aspirations with podcast host Corey Graves, Gable admitted he’s eager to prove himself against top talent, pointing directly at Daniel Bryan.

He noted how he’s not going to be aiming directly for the WWE Universal Championship just yet, although it remains his ultimate goal. Instead, he’s got his eyes set on the Intercontinental title.

“[…] I’m not going to say all of a sudden, three months from now, oh, I should be Universal Champion, because I don’t think that we make those kind of jumps immediately,” Gable confessed. “I do see that for myself long-term because you have to or else what are you doing? But I am very happy that I stayed on Smackdown because we have the IC Title, which I think would be a great starting point for me as a singles guy. I want to get in that mix.”

Chad Gable’s Championship Goals

If successful, the former American Alpha member shared how he would be a fighting champion. He revealed how he would be eager to “defend it all the time.” According to him, his dream match would be a bout against Bryan, regardless of whether the Intercontinental Championship was at stake or not.

“[…] there’s guys like Bryan on our show who I have not had a chance to wrestle yet on TV, especially in a singles match. It’s my dream opponent that’s still wrestling. Before he’s done – and I don’t know how long he has left or how long he plans on wrestling – I want to have that match with Bryan, whether it’s for the IC title.”

He revealed how if he were able to wrestle Bryan, he’d want their match to have real stakes involved. Gable is confident if the match happened, he’d be able to show the world what he’s truly capable of. And with an opponent like Daniel Bryan, Gable believes they’d be able to “tear the house down.”

Chad Gable Reflects On American Alpha’s Formation And Split

The former Shorty G, Chad Gable, has discussed the formation and split from his American Alpha partner Jason Jordan during a recent episode of WWE podcast After the Bell.

Reflecting on how the two first came to become tag team partners in NXT, Gable shared how their chemistry was first noticed during a promo class together.

“[…] we did one promo where I kind of played almost like his little brother and I was kind of bothering him, picking on him and being a little goof, but he kind of like, gave into it,” Gable recalled. “And it felt so right, and you could just feel people were with it and they were laughing.”

He added how he then dropped the “Ready, Willing, and Gable” catchphrase. According to Gable, “[…] all of a sudden, everybody just lit up.” He remembered his delivery and Jordan’s reaction being perfect, and how it was at that moment that they knew their teaming together would work out.

Matching Mindsets

Chad Gable explained how their amateur wrestling backgrounds helped bring out a friendly competitive nature between them. He shared how this attitude helped to bring out the best in both men. As the need to compete and prove themselves faded however, a firm friendship remained:

“Our friendship was built out of that competitiveness, and before you know it, we were best friends after six months because we recognized that. We recognize that our mindsets are the same. We came from the same background,” Gable said.

“[…] and so, the competitiveness kind of went away when we realized we can do this. It’s going to work. We can force it to work; we can make it work. Before you know it, we were just clicking, and everything we did, we were on the same page. We would finish each other’s thoughts. It was definitely meant to be, 100%.”

Chad Gable On American Alpha Split

Chad Gable reflected on American Alpha’s eventual split following Jordan’s Raw debut as Kurt Angle’s “son,” which officially disbanding the team. Gable shared how he wasn’t aware of the storyline and found out WWE’s plans for Jordan at the same time as the WWE Universe.

He admitted how American Alpha’s intention was to be remembered as the greatest tag team in wrestling. However, he acknowledged that “[…] it wasn’t going well to be completely honest. We just weren’t having the success we wanted.”

Because of this, Gable was looking forward to a fresh start as a singles competitor away from Jordan and the American Alpha team.

After a stint as Shorty G, Gable turned heel after attacking SmackDown Superstar Matt Riddle. He later announced he would stop being known as Shorty G, once again adopting the Chad Gable ring name.

Chad Gable Quits Being Shorty G On SmackDown (Video)

It appears that one-half of the former NXT tag team champions Chad Gable is done being Shorty G and the former NXT star will not be using the gimmick moving forward.

This week’s episode of SmackDown saw Shorty G losing a quick match to The Freak Lars Sullivan. In the post-match interview with Kayla Braxton at the ringside, the WWE star said that he was quitting.

Producer Adam Pearce reached out to the former champion in the trainer’s room later in the show and asked Gable about his comments on quitting.

The former American Alpha member then ranted about being tired of lying to people that they can achieve what they want by believing in themself and said that he is done being the Shorty G character.

The former NXT star listed some of his accomplishments as an amateur wrestler and declared that only one man can achieve anything he wants: Chad Gable. You can check out the segment below:

The Shorty G character was introduced in Gable’s feud with Baron Corbin in 2019. Corbin originally called him Shorty Gable as a tease but WWE later decided to adopt the gimmick and they officially changed his name to Shorty G.

Now these segments suggest that WWE is doing away with the gimmick and it would be interesting to see what the company is planning for the future of the SmackDown star.

Dash Wilder Praises Chad Gable

Dash Wilder of the Revival recently praised Chad “Shorty G” Gable online. The two have faced each other a plethora of times throughout their careers dating back to 2014 in NXT.

Wilder Tweeted out the following in regard to Gable:

“Chad Gable is a freak of nature. His natural talent is amazing, but somehow his discipline & work ethic surpasses that. Watching him from his first match in NXT until now is unbelievable. We’ve probably wrestled him literally hundreds of times by now & he always makes us better,” Wilder Tweeted.

The two have been in 115 matches together, 19 of which were broadcast on either WWE or NXT programming. Many of these matches were the Revival/Mechanics against American Alpha and then later when Gable was teaming with Robert Roode.

Not everyone online had positive things to say about Gable, however:

https://twitter.com/Undefea76513724/status/1248292756490866690

Wilder responded to the Twitter user who said Gable had no charisma:

Things continued:

Dash Wilder Is Becoming Cash Wheeler

On March 9th, Wilder filed to trademark the name “Cash Wheeler” for wrestling purposes. His birth name is Daniel Wheeler. The Revival have not wrestled since March 1st when they performed on a WWE House show in Syracuse, New York.

Chad Gable Comments On Being Renamed “Shorty G”

Former Olympic wrestler Chad Gable has been renamed “Shorty G” in WWE. The 5ft 8 Superstar has been ribbed in storyline regarding his height. Gable spoke to SI.com recently about the name change.

“The key is to take advantage when given the opportunity,” said Gable. “Right before I went out last week to do the Shorty G promo, Bruce Prichard told me to make it my own and feel it.”

Gable continued to talk about the promo he gave on Smackdown last week.

“That promo, I felt it very deeply. The height thing is a message about overcoming whatever people believe are your shortcomings. Everybody can identify with that. That’s an area Chad Gable, up to this point, had been missing. Now you know what he stands for and what he means. Last Friday was the very first step in that process, and it’s only going to get bigger.”

He continued to talk about learning that WWE is an entertainment company as well.

“A lot of people look at WWE as a wrestling company, but at the end of the day, it’s an entertainment company,” said Gable. “I had to learn that, too. I’m one of the people who fell in love with wrestling because of the athleticism, but that’s not the only part of what we do here. WWE entertains.”

The full interview can be read here.

WWE Star Gets Ridiculous Name Change

Friday Night SmackDown kicked off the 2019 WWE Draft, and we saw Superstars moving to different brands. Apart from changing brands, one roster member got his ring name changed, to a very ridiculous one.

King Corbin and Chad Gable faced each other in this week’s episode of SmackDown. They have been feuding for a while now, and one of the main highlights of this feud is arguably Corbin bullying Gable for his height and referring to him as “Shorty Gable.”

It looks like Corbin will not be the only one to call Gable Shorty, as WWE themselves seemingly officially changed Gable’s name to Shorty Gable.

On this week’s episode of SmackDown, Gable was announced as “Shorty Gable” while making his entrance, and his new name was reflected on the titantron and the nameplate.

Fans’ reaction to the name change wasn’t very welcoming on Twitter, with many criticizing the WWE for the move. Even porn giant Brazzers couldn’t help themselves, as they had previously poked fun at the company’s terribly received Hell in a Cell finish.

While it was already reported that Gable could possibly receive a new name, it was expected to be Shorty G, as the company had reportedly trademarked the term.

While Gable’s WWE profile on the company’s website still lists him by his old name at the time of this writing, it wouldn’t be too long before it’s updated to reflect the name change.

Information On Chad Gable’s Current Push

Despite having the crux of his recent push revolve around jokes regarding his height, Chad Gable is still considered as in the middle of a push.

Dave Meltzer of F4WOnline.com noted that, although Gable is doing a gimmick that suggests he is an undercard babyface, Vince McMahon allegedly likes and appreciates Gable and his work ethic. As far as Vince McMahon is concerned the jokes at his expense are still considered a push.

These jokes and jabs are apparently not designed to make fun of Gable. Instead, Vince McMahon believes they will help the WWE Universe get behind Gable as a sympathetic babyface.

King of The Ring

Gable competed in WWE’s recent King of the Ring tournament. He was able to get all the way to the finals, defeating Shelton Benjamin, Andrade and Shane McMahon. He was originally scheduled to face off against Elias in the semi-finals. It was revealed that Elias had suffered an injury, and so Shane McMahon replaced him.

He went on to face Baron Corbin in the finals on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW. Despite his efforts, Corbin would emerge victorious.

Chad Gable ended up interrupting Baron Corbin’s coronation ceremony on SmackDown Live. With major wins over notable SmackDown Superstars, and Vince McMahon’s attitude regarding his push, Gable may still be primed for a continued push despite not winning the King of the Ring tournament.

Chad Gable Comments On Losing King of the Ring Finals

Chad Gable dropped the finals of the King of the Ring tournament last night to Baron Corbin. Gable had defeated Shelton Benjamin, Andrade, and Shane McMahon to advance to the finals of the tournament. Following the loss, Gable spoke to WWE.com in regards to the loss.

“This is tough. Nights like this, they become pretty dark pretty quick for me. This was a journey I was very proud of, that I had been on for awhile now,” Gable said after the match.

“It was not just for me, it was to prove it to everybody in the locker room, all the fans, and even my daughter was in the front row tonight. And I tell her night in and night out that regardless of what people say to you, regardless of what anyone projects on to you their insecurities, if there is anything you want to do in this life, you can do it.”

The full interview with Gable can be viewed in the player below:

“I know it sounds cheesy and cliche and it is, but it’s true,” Gable continued. “And I needed this win tonight. I needed that win so that when I tell her these things, they’re true. This one hurts, this is going to hurt for awhile.”

Baron Corbin Wins 2019 WWE King Of The Ring Tournament

The winner of this year’s WWE King of the Ring tournament has been determined.

There were 16 competitors in the tournament with eight from RAW and eight from SmackDown Live. The first round of matches started back in August on RAW from St. Paul, MN and SmackDown from Sioux Falls, SD.

The semi-finals took place last week on RAW and SmackDown Live when Baron Corbin def. Ricochet and Samoa Joe in a Triple Threat Match while Chad Gable def. Shane McMahon in a 2-out-of-3 Falls Match.

Kurt Angle Praises Chad Gable, Believes He Will Win The King Of The Ring Tournament

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle has praised King of the Ring competitor Chad Gable.

In a recent tweet, Angle wrote how, to him, Gable was never an underdog in the tournament as he always knew how great he is was in the ring.

“To me, @WWEGable was never an underdog. I knew early on how great he is, and was. He’s now getting the opportunity to prove how f’ing great he truly is. They say he’s the next Kurt Angle. He is not!!!! He’s Chad Gable, and he’s gonna win King of the Ring!!!! #itstrue #KOTR2019”

Chad Gable has been booked as an underdog throughout his run in the King of the Ring tournament. His opponents have all made jabs at his height, with WWE even trademarking a potential new name for him.

Gable defeated Andrade on last night’s episode of SmackDown Live. This victory sees him advance to the semi-finals of the tournament where he will face Elias.

If successful, he will go on to face the winner of RAW’s semi-final matchup between Samoa Joe, Baron Corbin, and Ricochet. The RAW and SmackDown finalists will then compete to crown the new King of the Ring at WWE’s Clash of Champions event on September 15th.

Chad Gable Recalls Pitching Ideas To Vince McMahon After Moving To SmackDown

Chad Gable advanced to the semi-finals of the King of the Ring tournament last night during SmackDown Live after defeating Andrade.

In an interview with PWInsider, Gable admitted that he was surprised when he was informed he would be participating in the King of the Ring tournament. He also spoke about pitching ideas to Vince McMahon after his tag team with Bobby Roode came to an end.

“It was a surprise to me too, my friend,” he confessed. “[…] sometimes we find out when the fans do, and I was totally fine with that. Because once I saw my name in there, I was very excited, as you can imagine. For a guy like me that is looking to break out and find an opportunity as a singles guy, I can’t really think of a better way, you know what I mean, than a tournament like this.”

“Begging, Pleading, Doing Whatever I Could To Get Something”

He then reflected on being separated from Bobby Roode, remembering pitching ideas to Vince McMahon as he tried to find himself as a singles competitor. Gable explained how, after being traded to SmackDown, he approached Vince McMahon with ideas for stories and character changes. He even made vignettes and promos that he would showcase on a laptop.

“Just basically, like, begging, pleading, doing whatever I could to get something, get anything,” Gable said. “And I wasn’t married to these ideas that I was giving him. I just wanted to throw as much at him and say, “Look, I’m open to anything. This is what I’ve got for you, but I’ll do anything you’ve got in mind because I’m ready to work. I’m ready to deliver for you, and so when I’m doing that, it shows them that I want to work, that I’m ready. And so when they come back to me with something, there’s no way I’m going to be a guy that is going to poo poo some ideas, you know, or anything that they give me. Because them offering me anything means that they want to invest in me, and to me that’s a compliment.”

He continued, “And so I’m going to take that, and I’m going to use it to its full advantage, whatever ideas they throw at me. And I take them all as a compliment and I’m ready. I’m ready for them to invest in me, and I can guarantee you they’re going to get back their investment. I will deliver.”

Despite his success in the King of the Ring tournament, Gable has been presented as an underdog. Many superstars have made a point out of his height, with WWE reportedly recently trademarking the name Shorty G.

Chad Gable Looks Towards His King Of The Ring Matchup Against Andrade

Chad Gable has opened up about facing Andrade during the next round of WWE’s current King of the Ring tournament. He advanced after defeating Shelton Benjamin this past Tuesday on SmackDown.

“Look, I’m not a cocky guy,” Gable said, “but I’ve been telling everybody, and especially Shelton for the last couple of weeks, that I’m going to be the one that comes out on top. He’ll be looking up at me. Maybe so many people won’t be looking at me as an underdog anymore.”

For him, he believes that people have struggled with Andrade as they have been so mismatched with his style. Gable, however, believes that Andrade has never wrestled anyone like him before.

“I think a lot of people have had trouble with Andrade because he’s such a style mismatch for so many people. I mean, he’s incredible. But there’s nobody on this roster, I promise you, that has more experience wrestling international athletes from all over than I do and that includes Andrade. He’s never wrestled someone like me.”

“He’s Not A Threat To Me”

Andrade’s manager, Zelina Vega, explained how Andrade isn’t nervous about facing anybody. She called Gable’s victory over Shelton Benjamin a “lucky win.”

When it comes to being an underdog, Vega claimed no one knows what that means better than her, and she intends to use that knowledge to help focus Andrade.

“Last week, I said that this is my destiny,” Andrade stated. “I will become the next King of the Ring, and Gable…he’s not a threat to me. I will beat him. I will move onto the next round in this tournament, okay?”

The two will face off next week on SmackDown Live, competing for a chance to advance to the semi-finals of the tournament.

Chad Gable Possibly To Receive New Ring Name

This week on Smackdown, we saw Shelton Benjamin play a joke on his former tag-team partner, Chad Gable. Benjamin put a sign on the door to Gable’s change room that said he must be “this tall” to wrestle in the King of the Ring tournament.

According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Gable could receive the new nickname of “Shorty G” soon.

“WWE just trademarked the term Shorty G as a wrestling name and rumor had it Gable was going to get that name,” wrote Dave Meltzer.

Real name Charles Betts, Gable competed for Team USA as an amateur wrestler at the 2012 Olympics in London. His height is currently listed at 5ft 8 inches.

Chad Gable WWE Career

Gable has won tag team gold three times in WWE, on 3 different brands and with 2 different partners. Along with Jason Jordan, Gable won both the NXT and the Smackdown tag team championships. Gable and Bobby Roode are also former RAW tag team champions.

In 2015, Gable was voted “Rookie of the Year” by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Last year, he was ranked at #93 in the PWI Top-500 rankings.

Chad Gable Says Kurt Angle Is The Best Of All Time Following Match

Former WWE RAW Tag Team Champion Chad Gable was able to wrestle someone that he looked up to while growing up as a wrestling fan and working his way up through the ranks in the WWE.

During Monday’s episode of RAW in Chicago, IL at the Allstate Arena, Gable had the chance to wrestle WWE Hall of Famer and Monday Night RAW General Manager Kurt Angle in a singles match.

With Angle’s days in the ring as a competitor limited due to his impending retirement from pro wrestling, Gable was one of the lucky current WWE stars to share the squared circle with Angle.

WWE’s YouTube channel released this video of Gable talking about the match, which he lost to the former WWE Champion. This is where he brought up Angle being a hero of his while growing up and that he had hoped he would have the chance to wrestle Angle.

“I wanna wrestle him before he’s done. I wanna have that honor to be able to say I wrestled the best of all time.”

Angle is slated to face Baron Corbin in his retirement match at WrestleMania 35. You can watch the interview here:
