Charlotte Flair Names Roxanne Perez As WWE’s Next Big Thing

During an Instagram Live session on Thursday, WWE superstar Charlotte Flair shared insights into her intense training regimen while engaging with fans. When asked who she sees as the “next big thing” in WWE’s women’s division, Flair immediately singled out NXT standout Roxanne Perez.

“I was extremely, extremely impressed by Roxanne in the Royal Rumble. I think she killed it. So, my vote is Roxanne, she has a really bright future,” Flair said. (H/T Landon Buford)

Perez, a former NXT Women’s Champion and ROH Women’s Champion, showcased her speed, agility, and technical skills during the Royal Rumble, standing out against top-tier competitors. At just 22, she is already considered one of the most promising young talents in WWE.

After losing her NXT Women’s Championship to Giulia at New Year’s Evil on January 7, “The Prodigy” competed in her final major NXT event at Vengeance Day on February 15. She has now successfully transitioned to the main roster and will be competing in the Women’s Elimination Chamber match alongside Alexa Bliss, Liv Morgan, Naomi, Bayley, and Bianca Belair.

Flair’s endorsement carries weight, given her decade-long dominance in women’s wrestling. As Perez continues to impress, fans will be watching closely to see if she can meet the high expectations set by one of WWE’s greatest champions.

Charlotte Flair vs. Tiffany Stratton Has Been Planned For A While

WWE officially announced on this week’s episode of SmackDown that Charlotte Flair will challenge Tiffany Stratton for the WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 41.

The match was set up after Stratton retained her title by disqualification against Nia Jax on SmackDown when Candice LeRae interfered. A brawl broke out involving Stratton, Jax, LeRae, and Hall of Famer Trish Stratus, who was ringside. Jax and LeRae ultimately left both Stratton and Stratus laid out.

As the Women’s Champion was down in the ring, Flair entered and declared that she had chosen Stratton as her opponent for WrestleMania 41.

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Flair’s Royal Rumble victory and her selection of Stratton as her opponent had been planned for some time. In fact, the plan for Charlotte vs. Tiffany Stratton has reportedly been in place since December.

Flair earned her title shot by winning the 2025 Royal Rumble. This is a major match for both competitors—Charlotte is a 14-time Women’s Champion and a seasoned WrestleMania veteran, while Tiffany Stratton is a rising star who won the title earlier this year.

WrestleMania 41 will be a two-night event, taking place on Saturday, April 19, and Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Charlotte Flair Confirms Pick For WrestleMania 41 Opponent

Charlotte Flair has made her choice.

The Queen made her triumphant return to WWE after a year-long injury at the Royal Rumble event this month. She re-established herself as the top competitor of the Women’s Division by winning the Women’s Battle Royal and earning the right to yet another WrestleMania title match.

Fans had been speculating who Flair would choose as her Mania opponent since then. Charlotte even teased going the NXT route once again instead of choosing one of the main roster champions.

This week’s episode of SmackDown saw one of the two main roster women’s champions Tiffany Stratton defending her title against former friend Nia Jax.

Charlotte Flair Picks WrestleMania Opponent

The title match ended in disqualification after Candice LeRae attacked the Women’s Champion just as she was setting Jax up for the Prettiest Moonsault Ever. WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus who was in the arena tried to make the save for Stratton but couldn’t get the job done.

Charlotte Flair who was at the ringside watching the bout closely then strolled into the ring and announced that she’ll be challenging Tiffany Stratton at WrestleMania 41 from Las Vegas.

This will be The Queen’s first WrestleMania match since 2023 after she missed the show last year due to her injury.

For Stratton, this will be her first WrestleMania match ever. She’s following in the footsteps of Flair herself who 9 years ago made her Mania debut as a champion as well. Charlotte entered the WrestleMania 32 bout as the Divas Champion and walked out with the Women’s Championship that replaced the old title.

Charlotte Flair Picks Tiffany Stratton as Her WrestleMania Opponent

In a hard-fought WWE Women’s Championship match on SmackDown, champion Tiffany Stratton’s defense against Nia Jax came to an abrupt end when Candice LeRae interfered, causing a disqualification. The match had been an impressive display of power and athleticism from both competitors until LeRae’s sudden intervention.

The drama continued to unfold as WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus rushed to Stratton’s aid, only to fall victim to Jax’s devastating offense. The situation took another dramatic turn when Charlotte Flair made her entrance, methodically walking to the ring with a steel chair in hand. In a moment dripping with intensity,

Flair positioned herself above the fallen champion and delivered a chilling message:

“The Queen chooses you. I’ll see you at WrestleMania”

With those words, the stage was set for what promises to be an explosive WrestleMania showdown between Tiffany Stratton and Charlotte Flair.

Ric Flair: Charlotte & Rhea Ripley Are in a League of Their Own

WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair offered candid thoughts on the women’s division during a recent appearance on Gabby AF, placing his daughter Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley in a class of their own.

“She’s so much better than… and that’s not to say the other girls aren’t good, but she and Rhea right now are the two best in the business,” Flair stated, highlighting Charlotte’s elite status.

While acknowledging former WWE star Sasha Banks (now Mercedes Moné), Flair maintained that with her departure, Charlotte and Rhea have emerged as the division’s clear standouts.

A two-time Royal Rumble winner and decorated champion, Charlotte made her return to WWE in January after recovering from injury. Flair revealed he watched her comeback match from a sports bar, overcome with emotion at seeing his daughter back in action.

“The Match to Make”

The Nature Boy particularly praised Charlotte’s WrestleMania 39 encounter with Ripley, declaring:

“They haven’t had a match like that in the women’s division that I’ve seen on TV anywhere since that match.”

Looking ahead to WrestleMania 41, Flair advocates for another Charlotte-Rhea confrontation, calling it “the match to make.” He also expressed interest in potential matchups with Bianca Belair and the long-anticipated showdown with Becky Lynch.

As WWE’s premier event approaches, the question remains whether the company will capitalize on Charlotte and Rhea’s proven in-ring chemistry.

Charlotte Flair Hints at Holding Off WrestleMania Announcement

Charlotte Flair earned another Women’s Championship opportunity at WrestleMania 41 by winning the 2025 Women’s Royal Rumble match, becoming the bout’s first two-time winner. While fans know Flair will be in a high-profile match this April, The Queen is keeping everyone guessing about her WrestleMania plans.

Flair appeared on NXT to confront NXT Women’s Champion Giulia, Roxanne Perez, and Bayley during the Vengeance Day Championship Summit. In a WWE NXT digital exclusive, Flair made clear the decision she makes will be on her terms.

WrestleMania’s not until April, so I’ve got all the time in the world. So I’m just gonna take my time while you guys wait it out. It’s on my time. I might not even pick until the night before WrestleMania.”

Giulia, Bayley, and Perez will meet at NXT Vengeance Day this week with the NXT Women’s Championship on the line. While Flair respects the skills of all three women, she sarcastically added that “they’re not me, but they will get there.”

Flair’s return to the ring comes after she spent over a year out of action with a leg injury. Now that she’s back, the two-time Women’s Royal Rumble winner is grateful to have had the opportunity to visit NXT this week.

“To come back where I’m homegrown, where my first match was, where my coaches are, it’s always surreal to come back, to remember your roots.”

Charlotte will be on this Friday’s WWE SmackDown where she will confront Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton. Though a match between the two has already been reported, fans may be left waiting a long time before Flair confirms her WrestleMania 41 plans.

Charlotte Flair and Andrade have officially parted ways. Court records obtained by TMZ Sports reveal that the WWE superstar, whose real name is Ashley Elizabeth Fliehr, filed for divorce from Andrade (Manuel Alfonso Andrade Oropeza) in Florida back in June 2024. A judge finalized the split in October.

A High-Profile Wrestling Romance Comes to an End

Flair and Andrade began dating in 2019, got engaged in 2020, and tied the knot in 2022 in a lavish wedding ceremony in Mexico. Despite their seemingly strong bond—evidenced by social media posts and public appearances together—the couple has now gone their separate ways.

This caption has sparked speculation among fans about the possibility of Flair leading a faction upon her return to WWE television. While Flair is widely recognized as a standout singles competitor, she was part of a faction during her early days in NXT over a decade ago.

Most wrestling fans know about the (unofficial) Four Horsewomen, but real ones remember the Beautiful, Fierce Females. In November 2013, Charlotte joined The BFFs alongside Sasha Banks and Summer Rae, turning heel after attacking her former tag team partner, Bayley. The BFFs became one of NXT’s most successful factions before disbanding when Summer Rae was called up to the main roster.

Though WWE has not officially announced when Charlotte Flair will return to television, her appearance at this week’s NXT broadcast suggests her return is imminent.

What Fans Can Expect from Charlotte Flair’s WWE Return

Charlotte Flair is edging closer to her return to WWE, and fans may witness a revamped version of The Queen upon her comeback.

Flair’s last match occurred on the December 8th, 2023, episode of SmackDown, where she suffered a devastating knee injury during a bout against Asuka. The injury, which involved a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus, required immediate surgery, sidelining her indefinitely. Initial reports suggested Flair wouldn’t step back into the ring until at least 2024.

Recent developments, however, hint at a sooner-than-expected return. Flair was recently spotted training alongside a former WWE star, sparking speculation about her comeback. Additionally, her name has been floated in connection with a marquee match at WrestleMania, suggesting that her return could be tied to a high-profile storyline.

A New Side of The Queen?

According to insights shared on the Backstage Pass podcast, WWE may be planning a shift in Charlotte Flair’s character. WrestleVotes revealed that Flair’s presentation could embrace an intensified version of her Queen persona.

The 14-time World Champion will have a different presentation when she returns to WWE than fans are used to seeing from her. She’ll be leaning into a ‘dark queen’ aura, with Wrestlevotes hinting, “Maybe like a little Seth Rollins-esque flair in her attire. She’ll just be turned up a little volume-wise.”

This potential transformation aligns with WWE’s pattern of evolving its top stars, giving Flair an opportunity to refine her regal character with a darker, edgier twist.

A Timely Return

Rumors also suggest that WWE might be holding off Flair’s return to coincide with significant upcoming events, such as the debut of Raw on Netflix. If true, this would position Flair’s comeback as a major moment, tied to a broader effort to captivate both loyal fans and new audiences.

Whatever the exact plans, Charlotte Flair’s return promises to be a pivotal moment for WWE, showcasing a renewed energy and focus on one of its biggest stars. Fans can expect a compelling evolution of The Queen that could redefine her legacy in the squared circle.

Charlotte Flair’s Injury and Recovery Journey

The Nature Girl hasn’t stepped into a WWE ring since the December 8, 2023 episode of SmackDown, where she faced Asuka. During that match, Charlotte suffered a severe left knee injury, tearing her ACL, MCL, and meniscus. She underwent surgery in January 2024, keeping her on the sidelines ever since.

At the time of writing, Charlotte has not competed in a single match in 2024. Unless she returns next month, this will be the first year of her decade-long WWE career without in-ring activity.

Recovering from injuries of this magnitude typically takes around nine months. That would have been around September, but more recent reports suggest she might not be back until 2025. Charlotte’s teaser, however, is an encouraging sign.

In an October appearance on the Forever Young Podcast, Charlotte spoke candidly about her recovery. She admitted feeling as though her “life was over” after the injury but saw the hiatus as an opportunity to grow. She used the time off to reflect on her career and plan how to evolve her character.

During her recovery, Charlotte has remained active, frequently sharing training updates and footage of her fitness journey.

Charlotte Flair Reveals Her Initial Reaction To Career-Threatening Injury

“I thought my life was over. My husband [Andrade] had just come back to the company or was on his way back. I knew he was going to be debuting soon. From the moment I was taken out, I just have kept telling myself that I’m going to come back the best version of the Queen when I do come back.”

‘The Queen’ is using the injury hiatus to her advantage as she is scouting the present wrestling landscape to add more layers to her character when she is back. Flair explained:

“It’s been a challenge, but a challenge I know that’s going to make me better in the long run because I’ve had the opportunity over these, I think it’s been like nine, eight months now to go back and see things that I would have done over. What can I do over? Look at the landscape of the division and try to figure out where I can add character layers when I come back.”

During the conversation, she was asked how long until she returns. However, Flair remained tight-lipped and said that she wants fans to get surprised when she makes her comeback.

The daughter of legendary wrestler Ric Flair, is quite active on her social media and shares footage of her in-ring training. She previously dropped a clip of running the ropes and doing a series of rolls.

There is a belief that there is still some time left before she returns to the ring as the injuries that she sustained last year were severe. She is likely to miss the remainder of the year and could be back next year.

On the other hand, Charlotte Flair will be a part of an upcoming indie horror/thriller movie, You Lose You Die. Previously, Flair worked outside WWE. Her movie debut took place when she starred as Heather Rockrear in Psych: The Movie in 2017. It is a spin-off of the popular show about fake psychic investigator. Flair has also starred as herself in the remake of Punky Brewster with fellow WWE wrestler Alexa Bliss.

Despite her absence, Charlotte Flair has kept her eye on the shows and recently made it clear that she wants to share the ring with the NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez.

Rhea Ripley Welcomes Rematch Against “Princess” Charlotte Flair

WWE superstar Rhea Ripley is ready for a rematch against her rival Charlotte Flair. In their last encounter, “The Eradicator” defeated Flair to win the Smackdown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 39 on April 1, 2023.

“The Queen” is currently recovering from tearing her ACL, MCL, and meniscus. The injury occurred during a match against Asuka on December 3, 2023, during the episode of Friday Night Smackdown. After months of rehab, Flair is getting closer to returning to the WWE.

In an interview with veteran wrestling journalist Bill Apter, Ripley warned the seven-time WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion ahead of her comeback.

“…Mamí is bigger and better than ever. I beat you at WrestleMania 39, so you best believe that I can do it again. I love you, princess. Get back and be safe because Mamí is going to put you back down.”

– Rhea Ripley, WrestleBinge

After Ripley won the title in 2023, she was moved to Monday Night Raw along with Judgement Day (Finn Balor, Damian Priest & Dominik Mysterio). WWE’s creative decision made it so they were separated by different brands and has created intrigue from fans about a rematch.

Charlotte Flair Recovery Update

On July 30, Flair posted a video of herself training in the ring at the WWE Performance Center. She was noticeably wearing a knee brace but could do in-ring exercises with seemingly little discomfort.

WWE announced in December 2023 that Flair’s timeline for her full recovery could be nine months, which would be on track for a September return. She’s listed as a free agent on the WWE website, allowing the company some flexibility to place her on Raw or SmackDown when the time comes.

Ripley is currently focused on her feud with WWE Women’s World Champion Liv Morgan and her former boyfriend, Mysterio. That said, the company could move to have Flair rekindle her rivalry with “Mamí” when she is ready to return.
