Charlotte Originally Scheduled To Appear On RAW On Monday, Stardust Update

– While Stardust (Cody Rhodes) was back at television this week, WWE decided not to use him. The belief is that WWE isn’t ready to turn Stardust babyface, and due to the fact that he is Dusty Rhodes’ son and people probably won’t want to “boo” him, they are waiting to bring him back.

– At one point, a few of the NXT Divas, Charlotte being one we can confirm specifically, were scheduled for this past Monday’s edition of WWE RAW. This wasn’t the first time NXT Divas were set to make their main roster debuts only for plans to be changed. As noted recently, Charlotte and Sasha Banks are expected to be brought up to the main roster in time for SummerSlam, and they are likely to be involved in the Paige vs. Team Bella angle, siding with Paige.

Plans For Sasha Banks & Charlotte’s WWE Main Roster Debuts

While there has been a lot of speculation about the outcome of the current storyline involving Paige taking on Team Bella (Alicia Fox and The Bella Twins), we can now report what the current working plan is.

According to PWInsider.com, NXT Diva Charlotte is scheduled to make her main roster debut at next month’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view. Another NXT Diva, likely current NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks, will be debuting alongside Charlotte to help Paige.

There was some discussion of calling up Bayley for this storyline, however she is dealing with a broken hand, so the talk now is that Banks will be the second Diva called up for this angle.

Mickie James Says She Wants To Return To WWE, Work With Paige

TNA Knockout Mickie James recently appeared as a guest on The Roman Show and spoke about her goals. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On Working With Paige is She Makes a WWE Return: “Paige. I am going to take her out now. If you don’t see her it’s not my fault. The girls have been killing it in NXT. Kudos to the girls of NXT for killing it. It’s a tough one. They are all so good. I would like to take on Charlotte. That would be fun because I’ve been friends with Ric Flair. He does nothing, but brag about her. He is proud of her as he should be.”

On Reaching Her Goals: “I don’t know. That would be amazing,” she said about returning to the WWE. “I got into wrestling to be a WWE superstar that was my goal. I watched WWE as a child. I was a fan. That’s where I wanted to be. I was fortunate and blessed to achieve that goal. I am grateful. But if I had the opportunity to come back of course I would be back to kick their butts. Easy competition. Just kidding.”

Video: Nikki Bella Says She Wants Title Unification Match With NXT’s Sasha Banks

At a recent convention, WWE Divas Champion Nikki Bella, along with her twin sister — WWE Diva Brie Bella — fielded questions from fans in attendance about a variety of topics.

During the discussion, Nikki Bella revealed who she would like to defend her title against the most.

“I would love to square off with Sasha Banks,” said Nikki. “Champ vs. champ, WWE Divas Champ vs. NXT Champ. (Kevin Owens and John Cena) beat us to it, I was so pissed. Hopefully after their run, we can have a run.”

Brie added, “Charlotte, Bayley Sasha — there’s a lot of good ones down there [in NXT].”

Nikki also spoke about working with some of the NXT talent during a show at Madison Square Garden.

“Last year Nattie and I had a match with Sasha at Charlotte at MSG,” said Nikki. “It was awesome and really fun to work them. So I’m dying for some of those girls to get up here.”

WWE About To Sign Several More “Samoa Joe Types” To NXT?

WWE is currently discussing the possibility of bringing in additional part-time talent, such as Samoa Joe and Rhyno, for their NXT brand.

Internally, WWE is looking at their plans for 2016 lately and the feeling is most of their current top stars in NXT, such as Finn Balor, Sami Zayn, Hideo Itami, Tyler Breeze, Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Becky Lynch, by all rights should be on the main roster by then, meaning they will need to replace those top spots on NXT shows.

WWE is looking to secure enough high-profile independent talent to fill what is expected to be several open top spots to carry a full NXT card, which will be tough to do if the aforementioned talent move up to the main roster and the current trainees aren’t ready to move up within the developmental system.

According to one source, this is the reason that WWE has been negotiating with Evolve about a “feeder system” or a “farm league” system that would include merchandise deals and other business agreements that would help them avoid the situation they recently found themselves in with Kevin Owens’ recent Ring Of Honor merchandise.

NXT’s Four Horsewomen Talk About How They’re Changing Women’s Wrestling

NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Bayley and Becky Lynch spoke to WWE.com this week about their efforts to change the face of women’s wrestling.

Dubbed the “Four Horsewomen of NXT,” each of them talked about what they’re doing to ensure WWE has no choice but to #GiveDivasAChance.

Charlotte said it’s hard to be the “hardest worker in the room” in the NXT Women’s division, because everybody is the hardest worker in the room. She raved about Triple H’s decision to hire (the recently promoted) Sara Del Rey and said she gets goosebumps thinking about how lucky she is to have so many talented women to work with.

Bayley said Triple H has been incredibly supportive of them, showing a lot of interest in each individual. Triple H has solidified their mission to revolutionize women’s wrestling.

Becky Lynch said she stopped watching wrestling many years ago because it didn’t seem like women had a chance to be featured in a meaningful way. She said she walked around the WWE Performance Center and did not see any women’s wrestlers featured on the WWE PPV poster banners there. She knows that in five years, when she walks around the performance center, she’s going to see Bayley, Sasha and Charlotte on those banners. “Hopefully I’ll see myself, too, but I know I’m going to see them, and it’s not just because they’re good for girls. They’re just good. Just really good, and we’re just changing.”

Sasha Banks said that when she was working the indies, people wouldn’t care about women’s matches. Now, people come up to her and tell her she had the best match on the show. Male wrestlers come up to her and admit they are going to have a hard time following her match, which is an amazing feeling.

ROH Makes Kevin Owens Action Figure, NXT Matches At Aftershock Festival

– WWE announced that there will be NXT matches at the “Aftershock Festival” in Sacramento, California on October 24th and October 25th. Names advertised for the shows include Finn Balor, Sasha Banks, Baron Corbin, Charlotte and Blake & Murphy. For more, visit WWE.com.

– ROH issued the following press release today regarding the release of their new action figure line, which includes WWE Superstar and current NXT Champion Kevin Owens.

(Baltimore, MD – May 26th, 2015) – Get ready for the best wrestling figures on the planet! Ring of Honor Wrestling (ROH) and Figures Toy Company are proud to announce the official lineup for the debut series of ROH Wrestling action figures! Series 1 will feature four of the top names in Ring of Honor history, and this series marks the first time that any of them have been released in action figure form!

From “DemBoys” to a ruler of a Kingdom, ROH and Figures Toy Company will be releasing four major names to launch the line:

Jay Briscoe: The current Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Champion, Jay Briscoe is an ROH Original in every sense, including being the very first ROH match ever. With his roughneck reputation and the in ring skills to back it up, Briscoe is one of ROH’s most recognizable stars.

Mark Briscoe: Brother of Jay and another ROH Original. Together, The Briscoes wreaked havoc on the ROH tag division, and have held the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championship an unprecedented 8 times! Now Mark and Jay Briscoe team up to make history once again as a part of the very first Ring of Honor action figure series.

Adam Cole: The former Ring of Honor World Champion, and the leader of The Kingdom. Cole’s brash attitude has not endeared him to the ROH fanbase, and now he has something new to brag about, as he’ll surely be flaunting his Ring of Honor action figure for all it’s worth.

Kevin Steen: The “Throwback” star in Series 1, Kevin Steen has a long and storied history in Ring of Honor. From his tag team with El Generico to wreaking havoc as the Ring of Honor World Champion, Steen has made a name for himself not only in ROH but throughout the wrestling world. He may not be raising hell in ROH any longer, but he is still a force on the rise, and collectors everywhere will be clamoring for their very first Kevin Steen figure.

The Ring of Honor action figures will be 6 inch tall figures with multiple points of articulation, and will be compatible with other wrestling figures on the market. Each figure will come packaged with assorted accessories such as realistic cloth clothing, figure sized title belts, and weapons. Each figure will be released in a resealable clamshell package. Figures Toy Company will be releasing pre-order information for Ring of Honor Series 1 action figures in the near future, so make sure to follow them on social media for updates on upcoming Ring of Honor products!

Ric Flair Talks John Cena Breaking His Record, Possible In-Ring Return, Charlotte

WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair recently spoke with the folks at The Guide in Portsmouth, where he is currently taking part in his own one-man tour of the United Kingdom.

Below are some highlights from the interview:

On his career: “I could happily talk about my career all day long. I didn’t want to stop competing at all, but I think in terms of the direction the business was heading I saw it as a good time for me to step away from the ring. I’ve been blessed to have such a varied and successful career and I couldn’t have asked for a better final match than the one against Shawn. I couldn’t have asked to go out in a better way, to a better guy. He really is a true friend and if I had to lose to anyone I am glad it was him.”

On possibly returning to the ring: “I would love to get back in the ring, but they are scared I would steal the show every week. I’m just too god damn good. I can still go in the ring and take a suplex or two if I need to.”

On John Cena breaking his World Title record: “I don’t give the record a second thought, but if it was to be broken it couldn’t go to a better person than John.”

On possibly managing his daughter Charlotte: “I think she is one of the best athletes on the roster, but being a female it is always going to be hard in this industry. I have been asked before if I would go back into a management role with Ashley, but she needs me like a hole in the head. I wouldn’t boost her career, if anything I would hinder it.

“She is so talented it is scary. I am so proud of her but there is always going to be that part of me that worries about her development, if she will get injured and things like that.”

On the wrestling business today: “The business is a lot more political now and it is really hard for young wrestlers to work their way up the ranks. Personally I would find it very hard to work full-time now. I wouldn’t be able to do a show then go straight back to the hotel.”

Bayley Talks Training With Sara Del Rey, Working With Charlotte, Her WWE Legacy

NXT Diva Bayley recently spoke with AfterBuzz TV about a number of topics. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On how it’s different working with Sara Del Rey compared to the male NXT trainers and how Del Rey has changed the women’s division down at NXT: “I’ve trained with men before I got here and now training with Sara…Sara understand the women’s side of you too…It’s always been kind of a dream to train with Sara Del Rey. Even before I got here, before Sara was the trainer, I remember emailing her, wanting to move actually to Philly, wanting to move to wherever she was to train under her wing and learn from her. It’s really cool that now I do.”

On getting started in pro wrestling: “There was this whole promotion by my house, it was called Big Time Wrestling in Newark, California. I started going to their shows when I was 13…I would go to every single one of them. I knew once I turned 18, because that was their age limit, I wanted to start training with them. So I showed up and the promoter [Jason Styles] because I actually got close to him throughout the years, the promoter actually sat down with me and called my mom and asked her if it was okay, ‘So I have Bayley here with me and she wants to start training. Does she have your permission?’ And she’s like, ‘Well, it scares me but she’s right there in front of you and I’m going to support her the rest of the way.’ I was the only girl in the class, I started with four other guys, but within a month they were gone. So I had been the only girl for such a long time.”

On what she wants her WWE legacy to be: “This started as I was a kid, since I started training. The thing I want out of it is for women’s wrestling to be looked at in a whole other way. I want us to be able to main event pay per views. I want people to buy tickets to come see us. I want them to buy a ticket and say, ‘I want to see Sasha Banks, Charlotte, Becky, Bayley, everybody.’ I want them to buy tickets to see us. But the main thing, and I think all of us here, we just want the girls in the crowd, the kids to feel motivated or inspired to do whatever they want to do. It doesn’t have to be wrestling.

On why she enjoys working with Charlotte: “I mean, Charlotte is amazing. Who wouldn’t want to team up with Charlotte? I’ve been in so many battles with her, so I know what it’s like to be against her, because I’ve failed so many times. One day I will beat her. I know what a great competitor she is…she’s a Flair. We have a really good chemistry together, no matter if we’re against each other in the ring or if we’re teaming up together, we just have a really good bond.”

Charlotte Talks Plans For Her Main Roster Debut, Creating The “Figure 8” & More

NXT Diva Charlotte recently spoke with Donald Wood of Ring Rust Radio about a number of topics. Below are some highlights of the interview.

On how she feels about being one of the key stars in NXT’s first real tour of the United States and if she feels any additional pressure being an ambassador for the NXT Divas: “Oh wow. I am honored, I could not be more proud of where NXT is today. Obviously I am solely a product of NXT, I didn’t have any prior work, and I started at OVW before the performance center was a thing. Before we were even on the network we were with UK, Skysports, I am honored and it’s a big deal. NXT is going places and I couldn’t be more proud to be representing them and the female division right now. Especially with all the buzz around it it’s amazing.”

On what she thinks separates the NXT Women’s Division from the WWE Divas Division and what her thoughts are on the grassroots “Give Divas A Chance” movement from the fans: “I can’t speak for the Divas on the main roster, but for the women down in NXT including: Bailey, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, Dana Brook, Alexa Bliss, Carmella, I have never met a bigger group of women who are so patient about what they do. We just mold and gel together so well. Triple H hired Sara Del Ray to work with us. She fights for us every single day, they trust us, they give us storylines, and time. We just run with it. With all those elements combined that’s why we are taking off right now and it’s an exciting time for women’s wrestling.”

On which Diva has pushed her the hardest thus far and which Diva on the main roster is she most looking forward to working with: “Well first I just want to say, Natalia help put me on the map. When I had my Takeover match and I won the NXT Women’s championship, I didn’t have that much experience at the time. She brought out something in the character Charlotte that I didn’t know I had and I ran with it. I can’t say one specific girl is harder than the other. Obviously when I work Sasha Banks, she’s the baddest. She is probably one of the best heels in the company today. So how I am with her is different than how I am with Bailey. Bailey is every single persons best friend. Then you have a new comer like Becky Lynch who is the number one contender. Other girls like Alexa Bliss, Dana Brook, Carmella, for Charlotte she just tries to tell the best story with each character. Natty, Sasha, Bailey, and me have had these Takeover matches and there was the fatal four way, but I like to work with everybody so I can’t just say there is one person. When I make the main roster, I would really like one more go with Natty. I beat her at Takeover, she beat me on Raw, its 1 for 1, so that’s who I would like forward to working.”

On what it was like being named Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Rookie of the Year in 2014 and how does it feel to be the longest reigning Women’s Champion in NXT history: “I’m just so honored. For me it’s more less that I’m a generation kid and want to carry on my Dad’s legacy and represent the Flair name. For me that’s what it is all about. I want to work hard and especially for the women I work with. I’m just honored and shocked and I want to keep getting better. I want to keep outdoing every other match I have ever had. I had no idea about the Rookie of the Year until someone, Joe I think, said, “hey you won Rookie of the Year” and then my Dad being it, I’m just so honored and blown away by everything. All the credit has to do with the group of women, Sara Del Ray, Triple H, and it makes me excited for the future.”

On what her ultimate goals in the WWE are and how high does she see her ceiling in the Divas Division: “The skies the limit. I want to main event a PPV, be the Divas champion, I mean gosh when I started, I didn’t know I would be where I am today. I want to see where my hard work takes me, but I want to main event Raw, I want to main event a PPV, and be the Divas champion. I want to see the entire female NXT roster on Raw at one point.”

On how has being the daughter of legend Ric Flair influenced her in-ring style and if there is a story behind how she came up with the Figure 8 variation on the Figure 4 leg lock: “Well when I first started, I was just learning how to lock up and hit the ropes. I really stayed away from what my Dad did, like the figure four, the chops, the woo. When I had my match with Natty though, that’s when I started to incorporate some of my Dad’s signature move set. Shout out to Simon Gotch of the Vaudevillians, helped me come up with the figure eight. He said, “hey its twice as good as your Dad’s”. We were just playing around with it, and it came from a combination of everyone at school helping me. Its kinds like the figure four headlock I do. Sara Del Ray was the one that helped me do the snap mare where I flip over the person. I just want to take his move set and add my own twist to it. Its gradually coming along thanks to my coaches and co-workers.”

On if it has been difficult working in the business as Ric Flair’s daughter and how has her relation to a legend impacted the expectations for her career: “It was very hard in the beginning. Any generation kid has a hard time, but because I didn’t come from a wrestling background I felt the pressure right away. “She isn’t any good, she has no personality, she’s this, she’s just Flair’s daughter”. I knew if they would just be patient and give me time they would see. I have literally been in sports since I could walk so I knew once I could figure out the psychology, understand what’s important within the match, my character, and got comfortable within Charlotte I could show people how athletic I really am. That is what gravitates them to me now. Obviously its cool that I am Ric Flair’s daughter. I think my athleticism adds a lot to Charlotte instead of just being the daughter of the Nature Boy. Now that I am comfortable within my own skin, I have no problem going out there and wooing 75 times. My Dad is the best wrestler of all time in my eyes, but he wasn’t known for his leap frogs or being the dirtiest player in the game. So it’s been a journey figuring out who Charlotte is while not just being his daughter.”

On her thoughts on when she’ll debut on the main roster and how she’ll do: “When I do debut, I just want to run with it. I don’t want anything to hold me back and I just want to shine and not be timid or scared. NXT is getting bigger and bigger but it still doesn’t have the fan base of the WWE Universe has. I want to take my NXT fan base with me to the main roster and show what I can do on a larger scale. That is what I am most excited about.”

WWE NXT Live Event Results (4/4): New NXT Championship #1 Contender Crowned

Your ring announcer for the evening is Dasha Kuret. Greg Hamilton is your in arena host and MC.

– The show opens up with Sami Zayn coming out and cutting a promo, putting over the Orlando crowd and talking about how NXT has grown and sold out shows in Columbus, Cleveland, and San Jose and it wouldn’t have been possible without the people of Orlando. He then went on to talk about how the last month wasn’t so great to him and that he was disappointed he was not medically cleared to compete in all of those big shows. He says he has a rematch due and he’s going to win his title back from Kevin Owens. This brought out Tyler Breeze who claimed he was the number 1 contender. Bull Dempsey came out and said that while everyone else was pulling the load, Sami was sitting at home and Bull should be the number 1 contender. Baron Corbin came out, and stared them down. Corey Graves came out and said he anticipated something like this would happen and he called William Regal. Smi Zayn would compete in a number 1 contender’s match, but his opponent would be the winner of a Battle Royal held tonight.

Match 1: Battle Royal. Competitors listed by order of elimination: Noah Pang-Potjes (doing a Hawaiin gimmick, complete with lei’s and hula music), Sunny Dhinsa, Sammy Piscatelli, Josh Woods, Steve Cutler, Sawyer Fulton, Marcus Louis, Tye Dillinger, Angelo Dawkins, Mike Rallis, Elias Samson, Colin Cassady, Simon Gotch, Enzo Amore, Bull Dempsey, Tyler Breeze, Dash Wilder, Aiden English, and Baron Corbin (thanks to some help from Tyler Breeze). Winner: Scott Dawson who goes on to face Sami Zayn later tonight.

Match 2: Solomon Crowe def. Chad Gable. Good, solid match. Dillinger came out and held up the number 2. This will be explained a bit later.

Match 3: Bayley and Alexa Bliss def. Dana Brooke and Carmella. Bayley wins with the Bayley to Belly suplex. There were a lot of fun spots meant to get crowd reaction and the fans ate it up. You can tell Brooke and Carmlla are still very much works in progress. At one point, Brooke went to take a head scissors from Bliss and didn’t quite get flipped over and it looked like she nearly knocked herself silly. Still, it was an entertaining match.

Match 4: Tyler Breeze def. Baron Corbin. Breeze won with a rollup and his feet on the ropes. A bit of a rough match in places. You can tell Baron still needs work in places, but not a bad match by any means. After the match, Baron lays out Tyler with the End of Days.

Charlotte On Rise Of NXT Women’s Division, Losing Her Main Roster Debut Match

Former NXT Women’s Champion Charlotte spoke with Brian Fritz of Sporting News to promote Sunday’s WrestleMania 31 event. Below are highlights from the interview.

On the rise of the NXT women’s division: “Honestly, I want to go back, it started with Emma and Paige at Arrival. I really think that sparked the interest of the writers. I want to say Triple H has always been hands on, but since then like, ‘okay, we’ve got a lot of hungry women down here that really want it that will continue to work hard that know how to work.’ From Arrival, then it was me and (Natalya’s) match, and I feel like we continue to get better each and every time. Starting with Arrival, it was eye opening to everyone and it was, ‘okay, they killed it, let’s see if they can kill it again.'”

On losing her main roster debut match on RAW: “I guess I can understand why people were so vocal because they’re used to seeing me in longer matches. For me, I was like, heck yeah, here is the NXT Women’s Champion showing up on Raw. To me it was the main roster giving NXT as a whole a chance to be seen. Whether it was 30 minutes or whether it was four minutes, I still got the NXT Title on television.”

Charlotte Acknowledges Paige’s Critical Remarks, Total Divas Preview For March 1, Rhonda Singh

– During an interview this week with International Business Times, Paige, who will challenge Nikki Bella for the Divas Championship at Fastlane, was asked about Charlotte possibly being promoted to the main WWE roster in the near future. “The Anti-Diva” believes Charlotte needs to spend some more time in NXT.

“She’s good. She’s still new, so I feel like at one point people want to see her, but they’re kind of rushing it,” Paige said. “I think she could do with some more time, but I still think Sasha Banks is the one that I personally want to come up and who I think is completely ready and the full package, boxed up and ready to go. I feel like she’d be absolutely perfect up here. Charlotte is good, but (needs) some more time.”

While Charlotte has not publicly responded to her comments, she did ‘favorite’ theses message backing her on Twitter:

“the reason @RealPaigeWWE doesnt want @MsCharlotteWWE coming up to the main roster before sasha is because charlotte is a bigger threat.”

“@RealPaigeWWE has been talking smack huh? Well, Do it with #Flair shut her down. #RunIn #FastLane #DivasTitle.”

– Here is the synopsis for an all-new episode of Total Divas airing on Sunday, Mar. 1 at 9:00 p.m. on E!: “Ariane is embarrassed for her father to meet Vinnie’s family; Nattie struggles with TJ’s new career choice, finding it difficult to be supportive when he strips down with some hot models; and Paige feels the need to rebel when WWE tells her not to get a tattoo.”

– Saturday would have marked as the 54th birthday of Rhonda Singh, who formerly competed in WWE as Bertha Faye. She died on July 27, 2001 at the age of 40 in Calgary, Alberta. The nature of her death remains unclear to this day as it was never reported. Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer stated in 2009 on the F4WOnline.com message board that she “probably died of suicide.” It has been rumored that a drug overdose caused her to suffer a heart attack.

  • Ric Flair Talks About His Status, Working With Roddy Piper, Charlotte On Main WWE Roster

WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair recently spoke with the Bell 2 Bell podcast about his status these days, his daughter making it to the main WWE roster and more.

Below are highlights from the interview:

ON WORKING WITH RODDY PIPER AND THE HIGHLANDERS: “Oh yeah, I do remember that, wearing the Kilt and everything, Roddy had two with him, so we thought “why not?”, we had a lot of fun that night in Glasgow. I’ve known Roddy since 1976 or 77 and he’s just a great guy, we’re very very close friends.”

ON WHAT IS RIC FLAIR DOING WITH HIMSELF THESE DAYS: “I was just on RAW last week, I’m on RAW about 8 or 9 times a year and my daughter is, of course, in NXT. I just keep busy doing a lot of appearances for the company and I keep busy with my own promotional stuff, you know, like autograph signings, hockey games and NFL Hockey games. Basically I work every weekend….if I want to.”

ON CHARLOTTE MAKING IT TO THE MAIN ROSTER: “Do I think she’s ready? She’s been ready for at least 3 months. The question is whether they are ready for her. The DIVA’s devision needs a good shaking up, and she’s the one to do it. I don’t know what the time scale is like, but there is nobody like her, I’m not saying it because she is my daughter, but because she is just that good.”

Ric Flair On Why WWE Doesn’t Use Him More, Charlotte Being A Potential Major Player

WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair recently spoke with The Burton Mail to promote his U.K. Limo Riding Jet Flying Tour that takes place later this year.

Below are highlights from the interview:

On his status with WWE: “I appear on WWE programming about eight or nine times a year now. I think I could offer more and I think the management would like to use me more but it is about the others that have to follow me that they have to consider as well. I can be a very tough act to follow. I can still be active and will be for many more years to come, but they also have to take into account the other superstars at the same time.”

On his daughter Charlotte: “I think she can be the greatest diva of all time. She has all the attributes that can help take her all the way to the top and there is nothing stopping her from doing that. She has picked up the business so quickly and I am so proud of her for doing that. I now think it will only be a matter of time before she will be a major player in the WWE’s Diva division.”

Charlotte Interview: Redefining Women’s Wrestling, RAW Debut Against Natalya

NXT Diva Charlotte spoke to Ted Gruber of Fansided.com this week after losing the NXT Women’s championship to Sasha Banks in a Fatal Fourway match at Takeover: Rival.

Charlotte said the women at NXT are paving the way for a revolution in women’s wrestling that will eventually overtake the way Divas matches are portrayed on WWE television.

“If they were able to play our matches on Raw it would be great to show that the women can work like men. I’m not saying the Divas on the roster now aren’t capable of doing that. but the training in NXT has really helped us. I think over the years with the Divas searches and very little training makes it hard to make the division legitimate. I hope over my career that they don’t like at our matches as a ‘popcorn match.’ I truly believe we are paving the way for a great division.”

She also spoke about her WWE RAW debut back on December 9th, which she lost to Natalya. When asked how she felt when was told she’d her first WWE match would be against a veteran like Natalya, she said:

“To be honest I don’t think about the match itself. I look at this being one of the first opportunities of many that I will have in the future. Just to have the opportunity to whether it was one minute or twenty minutes was great to highlight the future (NXT), and myself.

“Natty has been there for the biggest moments in my career. She was my very first dark match at NXT. She was my first NXT Special match where I won the women’s championship. These were very special moments and I don’t think it could have gone any better.”

NXT TakeOver: Rival Reaction: The Future Is Now

Last night, NXT held their fifth special event, entitled Rival. It was a night of change, as two titles changed hands and a new number one contender was crowned.

The jewel of the night was easily the main event, where fans saw Kevin Owens destroy his former friend Sami Zayn and snatch away the NXT Championship almost as quickly as he won it. The match started off well, with Owens initially playing the cowardly heel, leading to an impressive spot where Zayn leaped over the referee and top rope in order to take out Owens.

In all, the match was booked perfectly. There was some great in-ring psychology between the two, as Zayn injured his head at one point in the contest after performing a moonsault to the floor. While being checked out by the medical staff, Owens capitalized, hitting multiple powerbombs before the referee was forced to stop the contest. In the end, the juxtaposition of Owens laughing and celebrating his victory while Zayn lay motionless was the perfect way to pass the title to Owens while furthering the “broken friendship” storyline.

The other title change involved Sasha Banks finally capturing the NXT Womens Championship from Charlotte in a fatal four-way match. Anyone who’s seen Charlotte and Sasha compete over the past few months knew this wouldn’t disappoint and it certainly didn’t, as each competitor had some time to shine.

One of the more impressive moments was Charlotte performing a diving crossbody to take out all three of her opponents. Overall, it was nice to see Sasha pick up the victory, and ultimately the title, by pinning the champ in the middle of the ring.
