It makes me laugh because people were like congratulations on going to RAW. Congratulations for what? It’s a date. I’m going to work, it’s a one off. Thanks I guess. not that big a deal. For me. With all due respect.”

– Jason Jordan was advertised to defend he and Seth Rollins’ RAW Tag Team Titles against Sheamus and Cesaro at a WWE live event from Amarillo, Texas this past Friday, but the son of WWE Hall Of Famer Kurt Angle did not appear. – Early last week it was announced that former NXT Champion Bobby Roode and SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair would be teaming up for the Mixed Match Challenge this week. It will air after SmackDown Live on Facebook Watch over the next several weeks. Charlotte Flair Reveals How Difficult It Was For Ric Flair To Retire

SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair recently did an interview with Fox News to promote her new book, “Second Nature,” and talked about a variety of professional wrestling topics. Flair talked about the characterization of her Charlotte Flair persona, understanding her father now that she herself is a WWE Superstar, redefining women’s wrestling, and more. You can check out the highlights here:

Who is Charlotte Flair?

“Charlotte Flair is continuing her father’s legacy, but paving her own, and she’s opening the door for women all over the world to be superstars in a male dominated industry.”

What’s something about your dad [Ric Flair] you understand now that you’re a WWE superstar yourself?

“When I look back, I just wish I could have been more understanding in 2008 when he retired, because I just couldn’t figure out why he couldn’t just walk away from the job….But now being apart of the company [WWE] and understanding what it’s like to be in the main event, to feel the rush of the crowd…that’s what he did for his entire life and I understand now why he couldn’t walk away. Now I see why [but] in 2008 I couldn’t understand and I just gave him a hard time and we just went separate ways. But it was a growing process for both of us.”

How has it felt to redefine women’s wrestling?

“I think because I’m in it, it’s really hard to take myself out of the bubble and see how much we’ve accomplished as a whole. Even now when you look at posters or how many storylines the women have just from three years ago, it’s mind boggling to think that we’ve made such an impact in such a short amount of time. But the future with the Mae Young Classic, where women all over the world competing in one tournament that’s solely just women, that goes to show that who knows how that’s going to translate eventually on the main roster.”

Taz Wanted Charlotte Flair To Turn Heel On SmackDown Live

On last week’s episode of SmackDown Live, Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair thanked the crowd for being so invested in the Women’s Revolution. This promo came just 24 hours after Monday Night RAW Commissioner Stephanie McMahon announced the first-ever all-female Royal Rumble match set to take place next month. Charlotte is a big fan favorite at the moment on WWE TV, but former WWE Superstar Taz took to his radio show, The Taz Show, to explain why he feels “The Queen” should’ve turned heel:

“There was a good portion of [the interview] were I thought, ‘Wow, she’s gonna turn like, nasty heel here, early in this promo,'” said Taz. “She didn’t do it, but I thought she was gonna. I really did. And then they went into doing angles after that. But, there was an opportunity for her before Naomi came out.

“For her to really turn heel, heel, heel, but, it’s probably not time. I just was thinking, they need someone to bury this Royal Rumble first time ever female thing. They need a woman to do it, not a guy. And it’s just a heat, heat gimmick, and I think Charlotte could do it with no problem. But, I think [WWE] had their chance, and they didn’t do it. Instead, they went to a tag match.”

Alexa Bliss Responds To Claims That She’s Not As Talented As The Four Horsewomen

WWE RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss was recently a guest on Sam Roberts’ Wrestling podcast to talk about her journey through the industry. During the interview, “Little Miss Bliss” discussed the comparisons she has received, as far as her in-ring ability goes, to women such as those in the Four Horsewomen stable. Oftentimes Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch, Bayley, and Charlotte Flair are referred to as better workers than Bliss, however, “Five Feet Of Fury” is statistically the most successful champion since the beginning of the Women’s Revolution.

During her interview with Roberts, Bliss explained that she believes this distinction is made due to the fact that she doesn’t use “flashy moves,” something she doesn’t like to do as a heel character:

“When I was in NXT, I was still training every day. I was still in the ring every day and working every live event. And just because I wasn’t on shows that were taped for NXT TV, I don’t think people knew what skills I could do. And being a bad guy, I try not to do a lot of flashy moves and a lot of, I guess, good guy skills because that’s not my character and I feel like people take that as, ‘oh, well, she’s not as skilled as Sasha [Banks] or Bayley, Charlotte [Flair], or Becky [Lynch].

“But, I take that as a challenge. I’m like, ‘well, I can do all these things. I chose not to because I don’t have to. My character isn’t supposed to be flashy and be over-the-top. I’m supposed to be dirty in the ring. I’m supposed to kick and punch and I’m supposed to cheat and find ways to win at all costs.”

Charlotte Talks About Surprise Entrants In The Women’s Royal Rumble

WWE Superstar Charlotte Flair recently spoke with Planeta Wrestling about the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble. As the SmackDown Women’s Champion, Charlotte will not be eligible to compete in the historic match.

When asked how she feels about not being part of the Women’s Rumble, Charlotte says she’s torn. On one hand, her competitive nature gives her the urge to be part of the the match. She will get to face the winner at WrestleMania 34, so she’s excited about that.

As of this writing, WWE has not yet confirmed how many women will be part of the match. WWE currently has around 20 active female Superstars on the roster. As for which NXT Superstars Charlotte would like to see in the Women’s Rumble, she said, “I definitely am a huge fan of the Australians Peyton Royce and Billie Kay, I think they would be a great edition to the Royal Rumble match. I think Bianca Belair is an amazing, incredible athlete. I think her presence alone, when shed enter the royal rumble, would be amazing.”

She continued, “Kairi Sane is another. And I know everyone’s rumors saying Shayna Baszler is a possibility. I know she’s one. I think all of those women would be great contestants. But again, anyone in NXT would do an incredible job and id like to see anyone step up and be part of the first ever women’s Royal Rumble match.”

The 2018 Royal Rumble takes place on Sunday, January 28th from Philadelphia, PA.

Charlotte Talks About Ronda Rousey Possibly Joining WWE

SmackDown Live Women’s Champion Charlotte recently spoke with Brian Fritz of Sporting News to promote Tribute To The Troops and WWE’s support of the US military.

“We forget that people are away at war,” said Charlotte. “The monotony of our lives that we get caught up in work and friends and family and I think we forget that there are people fighting for our freedom and I think we take that for granted. Having that opportunity and experience last year and to be able to have the show this year, knowing what it means to them, to have a little change-up in their day, I was extremely honored to be a part of Tribute this year. I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that we didn’t do it at an arena, that we went to them.”

Charlotte also spoke about former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion possibly joining WWE. With Rousey currently training for her first professional wrestling match, Charlotte thinks Rousey would bring a lot of star power to WWE and says, “she knows where to find me.”

“What’s exciting about Ronda being a part of WWE is all the different eyes that she attracts towards the women’s division as a whole,” said Flair. “I think that’s what cool. Ronda is an attraction. Any buzz that puts the women on a different or a higher level, I’m all for.

She’s a star that would be a crossover star into our world and that’s exciting. That goes to show how far the women have come, that someone like Ronda Rousey wants to be a part of something that all the women have collectively built. My message to Ronda would be she knows where to find me. I’m on ‘SmackDown Live’ every Tuesday.”

WWE’s Tribute To The Troops special airs tonight on the USA Network as part of “WWE Week.”

Possible Major Spoiler Reported For SmackDown Live

A title match between Charlotte and Natalya is planned for tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live in Charlotte’s hometown.  Reports from Dave Scherer of PWInsider.com suggest that Charlotte will be winning the title from Natalya to go on and compete against Alexa Bliss at Survivor Series.

If Charlotte winning the title from Natalya has been the long-term plan for tonight, WWE has worked well to keep it under wraps as Alexa Bliss continued to prepare and promote her match with Natalya last week on RAW:

Alexa has changed her tone however as she was featured in an interview last night that saw her almost prepare to lose as she claims the Survivor Series match to be unfair, due to the limited time she has to prepare for her opponent.

It is also possible that Alexa Bliss could be at SmackDown Live, along with other RAW superstars to witness the title challenge.  If this is the case, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Alexa interfere with the match as SmackDown Live has done previously on RAW shows.

Compared to the overall impact on Survivor Series, this could be another change that sees WWE balance out the face and heel bookings within the champions matches.  Jinder Mahal was set to face Brock Lesnar, but was replaced as AJ Styles won the WWE Championship from him last week on SmackDown Live.

The main problem that would be encountered, when having multiple ‘heel vs heel’ matches, is a neutral crowd/environment; the purpose of having a face and heel competitor is to create an atmosphere and to give the crowd a side/superstar to cheer and boo.

Therefore WWE has appeared to introduce more champions late in the day, who are faces, to even everything out, with Charlotte fitting the bill.

Opinion:

WWE has a recent history of making late changes to PPV cards.  This has been due to health, as well as superstars walking out, but it seems as though anything is possible now.

Also, watch out for Carmella at SmackDown Live and Survivor Series, she needs something else to happen that enables her to cash in her Money In The Bank contract, and this week could present multiple opportunities.

Ronda Rousey Attends NXT Event (Photo), Latest From Charlotte & McCool

– Former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey was at last night’s NXT event in which she interacted with fans and hung out with some of the NXT talent. Kairi Sane Tweeted out her reaction to getting to meet “The Rowdy One”:

– WWE posted the following video in which they take a look at Charlotte Flair and ex-WWE Women’s Champion Michelle McCool teasing a potential dream match against one another. McCool retired from WWE in 2011 as a two-time Women’s and two-time Divas Champion. She recently noted on Twitter that she’s been “dying for someone to ask” her for one more match:

MMA’s ‘Four Horsewomen’ Prepare For Battle

WWE’s Women’s division has been picking up momentum in recent months.  The recent Mae Young Classic highlighted female talent from around the world, and the imminent arrival of Asuka to RAW holds the potential for a great step forward that all superstars want to be a part of.

Kurt Angle’s teasing of a Women’s Elimination Chamber match further demonstrates just how much development and progress is being planned and made within the division.

Charlotte Flair has recently made her return to the ring, challenging Natalya for her SmackDown Live title.  Along the way, Charlotte has also teamed up with Becky Lynch and shown a clear change from her previous heel stance as The Queen to become a face.  Although the change has not been as successful, this firmly enables Charlotte to be on the same team as the other former Four Horse Women.

While Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch have been able to remain in action, Bailey had to recover from a shoulder injury that was picked up during a match with Nia Jax.  Bailey has since returned and been able to compete in recent matches.

With Survivor Series looming, this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter has presented new details about The Four Horse Women of MMA undergoing extensive wrestling training, adding actions to their previous verbal challenges with WWE’s Four Horse Women.

Shayna Baszler began training at the WWE Performance Center, while Ronda Rousey has been training in California with Brian Kendrick.  Marina Shafir, fiancée of Roderick Strong, has been training in Orlando, and Jessamyn Duke has been training for the last few months at the Santino Bros Wrestling Academy in California.

It’s clear that preparations are underway for the MMA superstars to make their way to WWE, and that this match up will come together at some point, however whether this happens in time for Survivor Series, as rumours have suggested, is another question.

Opinion:

Another big question that will have a lasting impact on the women’s division is: will Rousey, Shafir, Duke, and Baszler remain in the WWE Universe beyond one in ring showdown, or whether they will be given a contract that sees them join the women’s division?  The potential problem comes from the number of available spaces in the division, with the added MMA superstars taking up four slots, will there be enough space for anyone from NXT be able to break through?  I personally believe that the next step would be to create women’s tag team champships, which has never been able to take flight previously due to numbers.

Charlotte Reveals Ric Flair Did Not Recognize Her After Surgery

Charlotte was a guest on the latest Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast and spoke at length about her father Ric Flair’s recent medical emergency, Ric not remembering her after surgery and doing his famous strut while in the intensive care unit.

Here are some highlights of what Charlotte said about:

Finding Out Her Father Was Sick:

“I had just got back from China. I got there and I was like, okay I know it’s serious and the doctor was honest with us and said that my dad wasn’t breathing on his own and they didn’t want to do the surgery, but if they didn’t do the surgery then he was going to die. But they couldn’t say he was going to make it out of the surgery and his chances weren’t great so she told us to say our goodbyes. Me and my sister and my brother were like what the ….. How do you say goodbye to someone who wasn’t there? With my dad it’s like he is unbreakable so you don’t take it serious, but knowing that my dad never gets sick we were like okay, something is wrong.”

Ric Flair Not Recognizing Her After Surgery & Strutting in the ICU:

“When he was first taken off the machine and the doctors wanted to have him walk around, obviously he needed help and support but he didn’t even know who I was, and he was just pushing the walker and quoting numbers of towns from shows in the 80’s. I was like, that’s great he can quote me the numbers from a show in Chicago in the 80’s but he doesn’t know who I am? I would just sit there and listen to him quote the numbers and was just like this is crazy.”

“So, he is pushing the walker with the nurses and he is pushing and pushing and then he just stops and starts strutting in the ICU. He doesn’t know who I am, isn’t really talking but just does the strut and I was just like this isn’t real. When his 30 for 30 comes out in November, you will realize wrestling is my dad’s first love and that’s what he lives for. That’s why I think we are so close because now I am in the industry that he loves so much so I get it, I get wanting to be the main event every night.”

Charlotte also spoke about being embarrassed by her two marriages and wanting to be more like her television character.

Being Embarrassed by Her Previous Marriages & Wanting to be More Like Her TV Character:

“I am open and honest about it but it’s really hard when people on social media are like ‘oh she’s just like her dad, married twice.’ I’m embarrassed of that, I am. I thought what is the best way to overcome it and that’s to talk about it and I can’t change it, and when people say she’s just like her dad, they don’t know. I journaled about it and it was therapeutic…

Charlotte the character, I want to be Charlotte, that’s the funny thing, when I come through the curtain I want to be her. I tell people all the time if I could have that confidence in everyday life it would be different.”

Charlotte on playing a “good guy” or “bad guy”

“I wasn’t thinking about being a good guy or a bad guy and that has been the transition for me on SmackDown, do you want me to be this good guy? Oh no, when I first heard that, you know where I went? I’ve just left NXT, I’m respected, not loved, what’s going to happen to my character again? Obviously having my on-screen friendship with Becky, because she is the most natural babyface I think that’s helped.

I am just going on camera just being me and bringing in Charlotte a little bit and then not caring anymore. It’s like okay, well The Boss is still the Boss but guess what, she is the most popular, and just being okay with that, and not worrying if they respect you, you’re getting a reaction.”

Charlotte On Ronda Rousey & Cyborg Helping Women’s Division, Rumored Survivor Series Match

Charlotte Flair was recently interviewed by the New York Post and discussed Ronda Rousey and Cyborg potentially working in WWE. Ronda Rousey, Marina Shafir and Jessamyn had a confrontation with Charlotte, Bayley and Becky Lynch backstage during the Mae Young Classic tournament. Rousey was interviewed about fellow Four Horsewoman Shayna Baszler being in the tournament.

In her interview with New York Post, Charlotte stated that it is great that Rousey and Cyborg want to be a part of WWE because it is drawing more attention to the women’s division as a whole. Here is what Charlotte said about Cyborg and Rousey wanting to come to WWE:

“I think it is great because whether Ronda or Cyborg want to be a part of the company, it is still drawing more attention to the women’s division as a whole. Anytime outsiders who aren’t necessarily our main audience are interested, ‘Oh, they want to go to WWE. Who do they want to wrestle?’ I just think it is exciting. I just think it puts more eyes on us.”

Charlotte also spoke about the fact that neither Rousey or Cyborg have had enough training yet to be a skilled WWE Superstar. Charlotte referred to the rumored battle between WWE’s Four Horsewomen and UFC’s Four Horsewomen at next month’s Survivor Series PPV as a “gimmick match”.

“I am a little biased in terms of what it takes to be a WWE superstar and performer for the company. I would look at this as a term ‘a gimmick match,’ where I wouldn’t have an expectation, say me versus Nattie [Natalya] at Hell in a Cell. I wouldn’t expect it to be a match like that. They don’t have the training that we have. It’s just different.

I think the only challenge would be people might forget that WWE is a sports entertainment company. I think it would be exciting … but I don’t know if that would even be a challenge. It may even make it more exciting.”

Triple H, Stephanie McMahon & More Discuss The Mae Young Classic

Earlier tonight, Kairi Sane won the inaugural Mae Young Classic tournament by defeating Shayna Baszler in the finals.

Before the event, WWE held a red carpet event and several current and past Superstars were interviewed about the tournament.

Bayley

Bayley stated that her injury was coming along great, but she still hasn’t been able to lift any weights. Bayley said that she would love to see MYC tournament competitor Piper Niven make it to NXT and eventually WWE in the future. She also explained how the Mae Young Classic tournament lights a fire under current Superstars on the main roster because of the talent that could potentially join WWE in the future.

Alundra Blayze

Cathy Kelley interviewed WWE Hall of Famer Alundra Blayze before the finale of the Mae Young Classic tournament tonight. Blayze said that the Mae Young Classic is a dream come true for her because when she was competing, there weren’t too many women for her to wrestle. Blayze stated that the women today have an amazing opportunity in WWE, but they have to capitalize on it.

Charlotte

Charlotte said that she knows she has to work harder now because the talent in the Mae Young Classic is younger and hungrier. Charlotte knows that she has accomplished a lot already in WWE, but that doesn’t mean that it couldn’t all go away quickly because someone else wants to join the roster and take her spot.

Stephanie McMahon

Stephanie stated that she couldn’t be more proud of where the women are today. Stephanie referenced the transition from the Divas division to the Women’s division and how the RAW and SmackDown Women’s Championships are now more akin to the men’s titles in WWE. Women are now called Superstars and are regularly main-eventing WWE television and PPVs. Stephanie said that it was unbelievable how far they have come and how far they are going to go.

Triple H

Triple H believes that in 10 years there will be a lot of girls walking through the ropes in WWE because they were inspired by the Mae Young Classic. Triple H stated that when fans started the “GiveDivasAChance” hashtag, everyone had to listen. Triple H wants the Mae Young Classic to happen every year, but it depends on it’s success.

Triple H said that he wanted the Cruiserweight Classic to happen every year as well, but Vince McMahon wound up turning it into a weekly show so you never know what is going to happen. Triple H added that the tournament was named after Mae Young because she transcended generations.

Ronda Rousey Challenges WWE’s Four Horsewomen

It seems as though Ronda Rousey is getting closer and closer to stepping in a WWE ring.

The former UFC Champion was in attendance for the Mae Young Classic and she confronted Bayley, Becky Lynch and Charlotte following Shayna Baszler‘s second round match.

Rousey and the ‘MMA Horsewomen’ spoke to WWE.com outside Full Sail University following the encounter but were interrupted by the aforementioned WWE superstars.

Rousey approached Charlotte and stated “You name the time, you name the place.” When there was no response from Charlotte, Rousey said, “Oh, not today? We’re waiting to hear from you.”

WrestleMania 34 next April sounds like a logical venue for this high-profile match. Ronda Rousey’s days in the Octagon most likely done and the former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion reportedly training in the ring with WWE Cruiserweight Brian Kendrick.

Both Rousey and WWE have spoken publicly about the possibility of working together in recent months. During an appearance on ESPN’s First Take last week, Triple H said WWE is prepared to make Rousey an offer to step inside the squared circle.

“Ronda has been a huge fan of WWE her whole life, she’s been very adamant about that,” he said. “She’s done stuff with us before. She’s a huge fan. It’s something that I think she’s definitely interested in and I’ll throw it out right now, if she’s interested, I’ll give her the opportunity.”

Charlotte Provides An Update On Ric Flair (Video)

Charlotte Flair has provided another update on her father, 2-time WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair. Backstage at Tuesday’s SmackDown Live, Charlotte told Renee Young that it’s been a very difficult two weeks. Her father is a fighter and joked that The Nature Boy has nine lives. She thanked everybody for their support.

She added that Ric Flair has a long road ahead of him and won’t be back next week strutting. That said, she wouldn’t be at SmackDown if she didn’t think everything was ok, but WWE is where she belongs and she’s glad to be back. Being with her friends again and traveling with Becky Lynch, seeing Tyler Breeze, New Day and AJ Styles is helping her out a lot. She missed her routine and life on the road and it’s great to be back knowing Ric’s health is improving.

Charlotte Talks Ronda Rousey In WWE, The “Four Horsewomen”

WWE Superstar Charlotte Flair spoke with the South China Morning Post this week and commented on the possibility of Ronda Rousey stepping inside a WWE ring one day.

Charlotte says she’d welcome the opportunity to be Rousey’s first WWE opponent, but doesn’t consider the match-up a dream match.

“I would tell her to get in line,” she said while laughing. “Ronda wouldn’t be my dream opponent, but if WWE was something she would want to consider, I would definitely want to be her first competitor.”

During their time in NXT, Charlotte, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Bayley were dubbed the “Four Horsewomen” of professional wrestling. As it turns out, there’s another Four Horsewomen in pro sports – led by none other than Ronda Rousey. Her squad includes MMA fighters Marina Shafir, Jessamyn Duke and Mae Young Classic competitor Shayna Baszler. Charlotte says her incarnation is the “real” Four Horsewomen and she’s got the Flair lineage to deserve that moniker.

“We’re the real four horsewomen – I have the lineage! I think it’s great, with us being a sports entertainment company, being able to highlight crossover performers is exciting. Honestly, it just draws more attention to the women as a whole. Anything that shines a positive light on women’s wrestling, and how popular it is today, is great.”

GFW Knockouts Champ Calls Out Charlotte For Copying Her

As of this writing, Charlotte hasn’t formally responded to Sienna’s claim, but did post this photo on Tuesday morning with the hashtag #TeaTime.

Charlotte On Fans Initially Hating Her, Being A Natural Heel, How Ric Flair Motivates Her

Charlotte Flair recently spoke to the Ottawa Citizen and here are some highlights from the interview:

Fans disliking her at first:

“When I debuted on the main roster, people just hated me. They were booing me. Social media got to me a bit. They were like, ‘She’s just there because she’s Ric Flair’s daughter.’ I was like, ‘Why doesn’t anybody like me?’ It really got to me. I had to make an executive decision and commit to being what people thought I was. If they think I’m going to be that way, act that way. So it was about committing to being, ‘Yeah, I’m Ric Flair’s daughter, yeah the dirtiest player in the game, yeah I’m entitled, yeah I got here without having to do anything.’ Now I just know how to turn up. It was more about understanding you’re just playing a role.”

Working as a face on SmackDown:

“Since I am a babyface now, I am going to put all my energy into being the best babyface ever. My comfort zone and where I feel most natural is being a heel. My character could stay the same and people like my character versus disliking it. It’s more me trying to figure out how that works and staying true to my character regardless of what side I’m on. I do feel more comfortable as a heel, but I’m taking the babyface challenge on as much as I can.”

How being Ric Flair’s daughter motivates her in her career:

“It’s what has motivated and pushed me and been a constant force or reason to continue to get better every day. Just thinking of what an icon he is, wondering, if there wasn’t a Ric Flair, what some of the entertainers today would be like. Little kids now, it’s crazy of me to think they’re wooing because it’s me. Really, it’s their parents wooing because of my dad.”
