JR Blog: Chavo’s Release, WWE’s Bret Hart – HBK DVD Project

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read over at JRsBarBQ.com. JR spoke about another of topics this week, including Chavo Guerrero’s release from WWE, Jesse Ventura, being honored by the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame, whether WWE will ever draw more fans than they did for WrestleMania 3 and more. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Chavo Guerrero’s WWE Release: “Sorry to hear of Chavo Guerrero leaving WWE after many years with the company. I don’t know the details but from what I read Chavo asked for his release and wanted to explore other options. Chavo is a talented guy who comes from a regal, wrestling family who I respect greatly. Chavo strikes me as the type of wrestler who has given his post wrestling career adequate thought and even though Chavo can and likely will continue to wrestle, one can never over stay their welcome inside the ring and everyone has to have an exit strategy at some point.”

Whether WWE Will Ever Break WrestleMania 3’s Attendance Record: “Will the WM3 attendance record ever be broken? In my opinion, yes. It could happen in a variety of venues but specifically, in my eyes, it will be when WWE has a Wrestlemania in Cowboys Stadium in Dallas which could accommodate close to 100,000 for the event. With DFW being an American Airlines hub and Love Field being a Southwest Airlines hub, getting to Dallas from virtually any where in the world is doable. Of course, how well any event does or doesn’t do is always dependent on the main event attractions.”

Participating In The Shawn Michaels-Bret Hart DVD Project: “The HBK/Hitman DVD will be released worldwide this October and I have high expectations for the project. The two legendary, WWE stars sat side by side during the shoot facing yours truly who asked them a battery of questions … To be able to sit and talk to two WWE Hall of Famers such as Michaels and Hart who did have a bona fide rivalry at one time but also respected the other’s work was a privilege for me. I’m honored to have been assigned this project and hope that it lives up to the expectations we all have for it. I know that both Shawn and Bret were very happy with the day.”

Ross added, “I’ll tell you this, it takes a lot of courage and character to be honest to the core on these types of productions and Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels were definitely honest, open, emotional, and had some compelling things to say. My respect for both men, which was already immense, was elevated even higher after this DVD taping.

JR has much more to say about the Michaels-Hart DVD, which you can read at his site.

Chavo Guerrero Comments On WWE Release

WWE announced this morning that the organization has come to terms on the release SmackDown Superstar Chavo Guerrero. The third generation grappler commented on his departure from the organization and revealed that he had requested to be let go due to unhappiness with his position.

Guerrero wrote, “Yes, it’s true. My release is the big news I was talking about. But let’s get something straight. I asked for my release. I was just tired of not being used correctly. Just cuz u can make other ppl look good, doesn’t mean they should just have u lose to them. The same thing happened to Eddie. After being champ, they still had him working mid card status. Being a Guerrero, we’ve been taught since diapers to get the most out of ppl & matches. It’s our gift, but also our curse. WWE has always used us to make other ppl look good.

“It all comes down to being happy. I was not happy in WWE anymore. I had a smile on my face last night though when I got my release though! :) now it’s time for me to start being a Guerrero again, and start kicking ass again, be able to tell stories in the ring like u know we can. :) Win or lose I will never go back to the place WWE put me in. I will never go back to being under utilized and watching ppl who suck get bigger “pushes” than me!

Thank u to all of u who stuck by me and kept reminding me, I was better than that! :) stay tuned. Big things coming!! Now I will really be able to entertain u! :) like me or hate me, 1 thing I have always tried to do is entertain u and give u fans your $ worth. Even if my hands were tied most of the time. I love u all and can’t wait for the future!! So happy. :)”

He continued, “Hey, u guys have me trending World wide!! Thanks. I should of quit a long time ago! I know it may sound like it, but I’ve got no hard feelings toward the WWE. I’ve just been unhappy there for a long time & if you have watched the show, u will no why. I made a lot of money, but I’m better than just cashing a paycheck. I wish no hard feelings toward the WWE and want to see them and all my friends there succeed! I love wrestling & want nothing but wrestling to get better & bigger. U fans deserve nothing but a great show and great stories& athleticism for staying so true to wrestling. It’s in my blood & always will be. :)

“People asking what I’m gonna do now..I’m gonna stay home and be a Dad. :) going to watch my son’s football practice now. :) Happy!”

Hart Possibly Appearing On Raw, Lethal To Pay Tribute To Savage

Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer says he was given the impression that Bret Hart would be appearing at tonight’s Monday Night Raw taping in Portland, Oregon.

Last night at WWE Over the Limit, Hart’s former rival Jerry Lawler defeated Michael Cole in a Kiss My Foot Match. Harking back to Hart’s victory over Lawler in a Kiss My Foot Match at the 1995 King of the Ring, Hart came to the ring after the match and, along with Jim Ross and Eve, forced Cole back into the ring so he could kiss The King’s foot, as agreed in the the pre-match stipulation. “The Hitman” then placed Cole in the Sharpshooter to accomplish this.

— Chavo Guerrero stayed down for a few minutes following his match with Sin Cara last night at WWE Over the Limit due to an apparent knee injury. He was said to be okay following the bout.

— Former TNA Wrestling star Jay Lethal will pay tribute to “Macho Man” Randy Savage at tomorrow’s Florida Underground Wrestling live event in Largo, Florida. Click here for event information.

— WWE Hall of Famer Drew Carey celebrates his 53rd birthday today.

Two Matches Added To WWE Over the Limit Pay-Per-View

Brie Bella announced on tonight’s episode of SmackDown that she would be defending the WWE Divas Championship this Sunday at Over the Limit. WWE.com is teasing possible interference by Kharma in their preview for the match.

Sin Cara vs. Chavo Guerrero was announced for the pay-per-view event following SmackDown.

The announced card is as follows:

“I Quit” Match for the WWE Championship
John Cena (c) vs. The Miz

Sin Cara vs. Chavo Guerrero

Cara vs. Guerrero Receive Rave Reviews, Wrestlers Left Off Tour

— Matches pitting Sin Cara against Chavo Guerrero at this past weekend’s SmackDown live events have garnered rave reviews internally. Many feel Cara works well with Guerrero and that the third generation performer “is still an asset” when not being used in a comedic capacity.

— A number of Raw Superstars were left off WWE’s ongoing Mexican tour including Drew McIntyre, Santino Marella, Vladimir Kozlov, Gail Kim, Melina, Maryse, JTG, Tyler Reks, David Hart Smith, Ricardo Rodriguez and Nexus members written off television. McIntyre attended last night’s Florida Championship Wrestling event in Tampa, Florida.

Meanwhile, WWE developmental wrestler Percy Watson is working the tour.

— Ryan “Skidmarks” Howe, who was eliminated from Tough Enough last week, appeared at Wednesday’s Ohio Valley Wrestling television taping, beating Elvis Pridemore in a dark match.

Jackson Working As A Face, Sin Cara-Chavo Feud & More

— After getting beat down by the Corre on last week’s episode of SmackDown, Ezekiel Jackson worked as a babyface at Saturday night’s SmackDown live event in Pensacola, Florida, teaming with WWE Tag Team Champion Kane. The oversized duo defeated Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater.

It appears that WWE is going through with the babyface turn that’s been rumored for Ezekiel Jackson for the past several weeks. As we’ve been reporting, the SmackDown brand is light on babyface talent, so Jackson breaking off from the Corre appears to be an effort to remedy that situation.

— Rosa Mendes, who has been portrayed as a babyface character in recent months, was reverted back to the dark side. She appeared as a heel character against babyface Natalya at last night’s SmackDown live event in Pensacola, Florida. The third generation wrestler beat Mendes via Sharpshooter.

Mendes’ sudden turn can be attributed to the shortage of heel Divas on SmackDown. Layla established herself as a babyface on Friday’s episode of SmackDown, leaving Alicia Fox as the lone heel on the brand. However, Fox suffered a shoulder injury at the television taping after taking a clothesline from Kharma and therefore is out of action. Meanwhile, Kharma is working this weekend’s Raw live event tour. This leaves Mendes as the lone active heel Diva on SmackDown.

— WWE launched a program between Sin Cara and Chavo Guerrero on Friday’s episode of SmackDown as the third generation wrestler shook Cara’s hand following his victory over Tyson Kidd. In their first match together, Cara beat Guerrero at last night’s SmackDown live event in Pensacola, Florida.

Sin Cara Embarrasses Himself, Guerrero Takes Shot At TNA Star

— Sin Cara tried to impress his peers backstage at a recent WWE event by claiming that many of his notable victories in Mexico were shoots. There was plenty of eye-rolling over his conduct, with some feeling he embarrassed himself.

Similarly, Tyson Tomko had a reputation in TNA Wrestling by showing clips of his matches in Japan to people in the locker room from his smart phone and touting them as shoot contests.

— Chavo Guerrero said today that his Twitter account was hacked. However, he believes he has gotten a hold of it. Guerrero also made light of Kurt Angle claiming last week that his account on the micro-blogging site was hacked.

He wrote, “Ok guys, my twitter was hacked. I think I fixed it. If u got a Dm from me and I was mean, it was a fraud. Probably. :). Big ups 2 my boy @MATTHARDYBRAND for giving me the “heads up”on my twitter being hacked.I promise I didnt pull a Kurt Angle.Lol Luv u Kurt:)”

— Chris Jericho announced during his appearance last week on VH1 Classic’s That Metal Show that Fozzy will open for Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth and Anthrax on an upcoming tour of the UK.

Randy Orton’s Shoulder Injured Before Over The Limit? (Video)

– There’s a lot of speculation that Randy Orton’s shoulder injury actually took place prior to Sunday’s Over The Limit pay-per-view, but kept the injury under wraps hoping it would heal without him missing any ring time. Orton was seen favoring his arm backstage after his match at Saturday night’s live event in Cincinnati. As you can see in the following video taken the night before Over The Limit, Orton is seen clutching his arm at the conclusion of the match:

After further aggravating the shoulder at Over The Limit, Orton went ballistic backstage and wrecked the trainer’s room, according to f4wonline.com.

– As seen last Friday on SmackDown, Dolph Ziggler attacked Christian from behind on the “Peep Show,” green-lighting a program between the two. Internally, the program is being seen as a demotion for Christian, but a promotion for Ziggler. Furthermore, advertised house show line-ups have Christian teaming up with Hornswoggle to take on Ziggler and Chavo Guerrero.

– The May 14 edition of Friday Night Smackdown scored a 1.7 rating with 2.746 million viewers. The main event featured Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk.

Anderson Celebrates Orton’s Injury, Over The Limit Dark Match

– As seen tonight at Over The Limit, Randy Orton suffered an apparent shoulder injury during his bout with Edge. Commenting on Orton’s injury, TNA star Ken Anderson, formerly known as Mr. Kennedy in WWE, wrote the following on his Twitter account:

“I have one thing to say: Kharma is a M**********R!!

“And it couldn’t have happened… To a NICER GUY!!

Orton reportedly had WWE officials release Anderson after dropping him on his shoulder last year during a match on Raw.

– The dark match prior the live Over The Limit broadcast featured MVP pinning Chavo Guerrero.

– As is customary during live WWE pay-per-view events, searches for a live stream of Over The Limit is a top trending topic tonight on Google.com. The search term peaked at No. 4 during the show’s final hour.
