AEW World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho took a shot at WWE while doing his first in-ring promo on AEW’s weekly television show, Dynamite.
Jericho was cutting a promo in the ring where he officially announced his new stable that includes Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana, and Oriz. The name of the stable is the Inner Circle.
During the promo, Jericho went around where he introduced everyone and put them over. Once he got to Hager, the former Jack Swagger, he took a pause as the fans were chanting “We the people!” in reference to Hager’s gimmick in WWE.
This led to Jericho responding with, “‘We the people’ sucks and it’s dead and buried. It was a stupid idea from bad creative and all of that’s gone.”
Jericho also mentioned these stablemates have made his “list.”
Jericho would end his promo by shifting it to his next feud, which is against Cody Rhodes. This is where he stated that he would “beat the ever-living s—” out of Rhodes, which didn’t get censored.
There is a new #1 contender to the AEW World Title held by Chris Jericho and that’s Darby Allin.
During Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite in Boston, MA at the Agganis Arena on TNT, All Elite Wrestling held a #1 Contender’s Match between Darby Allin and Jimmy Havoc.
As seen on the show, Allin ended up winning it. As a result, Allin has earned the right to challenge Jericho for the AEW World Title on next week’s episode of Dynamite.
On this same show, Jericho worked a tag team match by teaming up with Sammy Guevara to take on Dustin Rhodes and “Hangman” Adam Page.
AEW will be going head-to-head with NXT that will air at the same time on TNT. NXT is expected to load up the show as well.
This match takes place on the October 16th episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia, PA. Also slated on this show will see the first title defense from AEW Women’s Champion Riho.
All Elite Wrestling will be announcing more matches and segments for this episode in the coming days.
Jericho makes his next title defense on PPV when he wrestles Cody Rhodes at the upcoming Full Gear pay-per-view event next month.
Cody Rhodes and Chris Jericho got into a brawl at the New York City Comic Con on Friday.
It all happened when Rhodes made a surprise appearance as Jericho was doing a scheduled appearance. Once Rhodes approached Jericho, the two AEW (All Elite Wrestling) stars started to exchange words before the brawl broke out.
This is the latest angle between the two top stars.
This comes after Jericho and his new stable attacked Rhodes on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT following the main event that saw Jericho, Ortiz, and Santana beat Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks in a six-man tag team match.
Omega was taken out of the match by Jon Moxley, who attacked him.
Rhodes is slated to challenge Jericho for the AEW World Title at the Full Gear pay-per-view event.
AEW presents Full Gear on Saturday, November 9th from Baltimore’s Royal Farms Arena. The show will air on B/R Live, which is Bleacher Report’s streaming service, traditional PPV outlets, and FITE TV in international markets.
All Elite Wrestling’s Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) took part in a post-show media scrum following the conclusion of Wednesday’s premiere of AEW: Dynamite. During the scrum, MJF spoke about his victory over Brandon Cutler as well as his future ambitions in competing against Chris Jericho.
“It felt great [to pick up the victory tonight]. It felt like every single bit of work that I have put into this industry has finally, finally come to fruition. I got to show the world what the future looks like. I got to show the world what the future of what All Elite Wrestling is, and the future of AEW is MJF.”
He spoke about tapping out Cutler in short order, calling himself a “top tier athlete” because of it. “[…] I proved what I’ve been saying since day one, and yet, people’ boo’ me. What they should be doing is looking in the mirror and wondering, ‘Why do I boo MJF? Is it because I’m jealous? Is it because I can never be MJF?’ Yeah, yeah it is.”
Future Goals
When it comes to his next goal in AEW, MJF is quick to mention the current AEW World Champion, Chris Jericho:
“Chris Jericho [is who I would want to face next] because he decided to do something that was absolutely inhumane and absolutely unnecessary,” Friedman stated.
He also addressed his friendship with Cody Rhodes, claiming that he would never face off against him as he is a “brother” to him.
“I would never in a million years put my hands on my big brother. Ever! When I say I’m going to be the future face of this company, it is because the face of this company right now is Cody Rhodes. And once he’s done, then it’s my time to shine. It’s really that simple.”
A new Jay and Silent Bob movie is scheduled to be released and Chris Jericho plays a major role in the film. Kevin Smith (Silent Bob) and Jason Mewes (Jay) were on-hand last night for AEW Dynamite. During the show, Mewes and Smith got into a verbal spat with Jack Evans & Angelico. Before the show, they were seen wearing the brand new AEW World Tag Team titles, however
AEW released the following photo of Jay and Silent Bob with the titles:
Jay and Silent Bob will have to give up those titles following the completion of the AEW World Tag Team Championship tournament. The finals of tournament is scheduled for the October 30th edition of Dynamite.
1st Round:
The Young Bucks vs Private Party
Lucha Bros vs Jurassic Express
Best Friends vs SCU
The Dark Order receive a bye
“Look at the pure joy on my face! I had a true blast at #AEWDynamite tonight! Big thanks to our #JayAndSilentBobReboot co-star @IAmJericho for having us at the @AEWrestling television premiere! Hope you’re all celebrating by cracking open bottles of the Bubbly!” Kevin Smith Tweeted about last night.
Christopher Daniels is a big Kevin Smith fan and noted he was happy he got to speak with him last night.
I was happy that I got the chance to tell @ThatKevinSmith how much I appreciated his work, how much fun being on COMIC BOOK MEN a few years back was, and hopefully he ends up being a fan of #SCU when it’s all said & done! https://t.co/PsM7SYebEu
A lot of things happened last night on the premiere episode of AEW Dynamite. Perhaps not the most important of those is that someone tossed a hot dog wiener into the ring during the closing moments of the show. The incident led Chris Jericho to address the crowd and also to crush the wiener in his hand.
Chris Jericho picked up the win for his team in last night’s main event on Dynamite. In the show’s closing moments, it appeared Jericho aligned himself with several heels on the AEW roster. Sammy Guevara, Santana & Ortiz, Jericho, and the debuting Jake Hager took out the Elite and stood tall as a unit to end the show.
Wrestle Kingdom inside the Tokyo Dome next year will be a 2-day event on January 4th and 5th. It is being reported that on the first night of Wrestle Kingdom 14, New Japan Pro Wrestling is interested in presenting Chris Jericho against the Ace of New Japan, Hiroshi Tanahashi.
According to a report from SI.com, multiple sources are confirming Jericho vs Tanahashi is in the works for the card.
“Chris Jericho is scheduled to face Hiroshi Tanahashi at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 14 on January 4 at the Tokyo Dome, multiple sources tell Sports Illustrated,” the report reads.

Jericho returned to New Japan Pro Wrestling for the first time in almost 20 years at Wrestle Kingdom 12 in 2018. He lost to Kenny Omega on the show. Jericho would then go on to defeat Tetsuya Naito for the Intercontinental Championship at Dominion that year. He would first defend the title successfully against EVIL before losing it back to Naito at Wrestle Kingdom 13.
Jericho’s only match for New Japan in 2019 was at Dominion this year. He lost an IWGP Heavyweight Championship match to Kazuchika Okada.
Fans found out after weeks of speculation who are going to be Chris Jericho’s mystery tag team partners.
It turns out that Jericho will team up with Ortiz and Santana to face off with Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks in a six-man tag team match. AEW announced the news on Countdown Show that aired on Tuesday night.
The match will take place on the premiere episode of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday night from Washington, D.C., at the famed Capital One Arena on the TNT Network.
The promotion has already confirmed that The Young Bucks will be in action as they will take on Private Party as part of the first-round in the AEW Tag Team Title Tournament on next week’s show in Boston, Massachusetts at the Agganis Arena
This contest will determine who will advance in not only the tournament but also to get closer to have the chance to become the inaugural AEW Tag Team Champions.
AEW presents Full Gear on Saturday, November 9th from Baltimore’s Royal Farms Arena. The show will air on B/R Live, which is Bleacher Report’s streaming service, traditional PPV outlets, and FITE TV in international markets.
It’s already been announced that Jericho will make his next title defense as AEW World Champion against Cody Rhodes in the headliner of this show.
What are your thoughts on these two stars serving as Jericho’s mystery tag team partners? Was this the right call by AEW officials? Sound off in the comment section.
WWE has recently been giving certain Superstars more creative freedom when it comes to promos, allowing them to work off bullet points rather than having to memorize scripts. Turns out that All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has no interest in scripts at all.
During an episode of the Mature Audiences Mayhem podcast, Chris Jericho explained why the promotion won’t be using scripted promos for any of its shows.
“I think people are excited because it’s something different. I know this – there’s no scripted promos,” Jericho claimed.
He continued, “There are no writers because that is what wrestling is. That is where it came from! ‘Austin 3:16’ was written by Steve Austin, ‘Y2J’ was written by Chris Jericho, ‘Never Ever Again’ was written by Chris Jericho. All that stuff came from my head because I am the one who has to deliver it.”
Jericho addressed WWE’s attitude towards scripted promos, highlighting that “you have to say it because it’s what Vince McMahon wants.”
“I watch WWE – and listen, I love WWE. I worked there for 19 years. But you can see when people are saying s–t that they don’t buy, and you have to say it because it’s what Vince McMahon wants. And if you don’t say what he wants, you are going to hear about it. And if you don’t do it the next time, you probably won’t get promos anymore.”
After a string of notable victories in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), Cody Rhodes has earned an opportunity at the inaugural AEW Champion, Chris Jericho.
Responding to a Tweet from the official AEW account asking if the people were ready for Cody to become the new AEW Champion. He wrote about having fun being underrated throughout his career, before admitting that he wants to claim the championship for his wife, mother, and every fan who supported him when he bet on himself three years ago.
“Being “underrated” was fun but also the least rewarding period of my career
It may seem silly but in my house the World Championship is The Stanley Cup, The Oscar, The Lombardi Trophy
I want it for my Wife, my Momma, & every fan who bet on me 3 years ago when I bet on myself”

Cody holds victories over his brother Dustin Rhodes as well as his recent win over Shawn Spears at All Out. He also has a tag team loss against The Young Bucks with his brother Dustin, and a time limit draw against Darby Allin. The promotion has previously stressed the importance of wins and losses, and so with these victories under his belt, Cody became the number one contender for Jericho’s championship.
AEW Full Gear takes place on November 9th from the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.
Jon Moxley is arguably the biggest star AEW has signed till
now and according to Chris Jericho, he is the one who recruited the former WWE
Star to the upstart promotion.
The Inaugural AEW World Champion recently had an interview with Mature Audiences Mayhem where he discussed things like the competition between his company and WWE and more.
While talking about his contributions to All Elite
Wrestling, the former WWE Star said that they wouldn’t get the TNT deal if he
wasn’t involved and went on to claim that he recruited Mox to the promotion:
“If not for Chris Jericho being involved, maybe we don’t get the deal with TNT, we don’t get Jon Moxley, who I recruited, or Sammy Guevara, Dean Malenko, a couple of guys you haven’t even seen yet.”
Jericho then explained that he may not be the greatest of all time but he has the best longevity at staying at the top level in various different eras of the business.
Apart from this, Chris also talked about leaving WWE and joining NJPW. He said that he got Vince McMahon’s blessing to compete against Kenny Omega and then extend his run for more matches.
He also discussed joining AEW and revealed that he had told Vince McMahon about the contract before signing. According to him, the boss told Jericho to take the deal.
However, he was surprised when Y2J actually signed with the
promotion and after that, the company started giving everybody raises because
Mr. McMahon doesn’t want anybody to leave.
Chris Jericho and Cody are scheduled to go one-on-one for the AEW World Championship November 9th at Full Gear. During a recent promo he filmed for YouTube, Jericho stated he has never liked any member of the Rhodes family, including Cody, Dusty, or Dustin.
“It’s not a secret, I don’t like you Cody,” Jericho says in the video. “I don’t like your brother, I don’t like your mother, I don’t like your sisters and I sure as hell don’t like Dusty Rhodes, your father.”
Jericho would continue to speak negatively about the late Dusty Rhodes, whom he worked with in WCW in the late 1990’s.
“That son of a b*tch, promised me a lot of things that never happened. Fast-forward 25 years and now this son of a b*tch, you Cody, promised me a lot of stuff that also didn’t happen but I’ll promise you this, I don’t like you are or your family but I love being ‘le Champion’ and I’m going to beat the hell out of you and teach your entitled ass a lesson on November 9th in Baltimore, my birthday.”
Jericho finished the promo with one last dig at the American Nightmare.
“The greatest birthday present I could ever receive is beating the crap out of you, Cody. Welcome to my nightmare, I don’t think you’re going to like it. You’re welcome.”

Chris Jericho vs. Cody Rhodes headlines AEW Full Gear on Saturday night, November 9th from Baltimore, MD at the Royal Farms Arena.
While the Inaugural AEW World Champion Chris Jericho’s big
win at the All Out PPV was highly praised by the majority of the fans, it
wasn’t free of controversy.
There are some who believe that Jericho, who is in his late 40s is too old to be crowned the first champion and during the recent episode of Busted Open Radio, Jim Ross responded to this criticism.
Ross first expressed that as a main eventer you have to earn that spot. You should be able to deliver and the former WWE star is someone who can always deliver.
The WWE legend then went on to claim that the reasoning that
Jericho is too old to be the champion is lame and their champion has name
identity to be given the position:
“He’s in his late 40s – and that’s the reason that we’re not making him the champion – that’s a lame reason, our champion has name identity and it’s a name that people understand and know.
The other thing is that he can have a good-to-great match with just about anybody. That versatility is important for the champion to have. He also can handle the pressure”
At #AEWAllOut, @IAmJericho became the first ever @AEWrestling World Heavyweight Champion ??
Jim Ross then went on to say that Chris can do a lot of
things that are going to be required for the new AEW Champion so he doesn’t
have a problem with his crowning.
The WWE Legend also talked about All Out and said that he would have put a match between the ladder match and the main event which followed to allow the fans to regroup.
AEW World Champion Chris Jericho has cause to break out a bit of the bubbly as his world title has officially been returned to him. The Tallahassee police reported they had found the belt yesterday but quickly deleted a Facebook post with the claim. The police department has since been able to confirm it is the actual belt and returned it to the champion.
The police department would state that the belt was found on the side of the road and turned in by a good samaritan.
Breaking: @TallyPD announces it did in fact recover @IAmJericho's championship belt earlier today. Someone turned it in at headquarters after reporting finding it along the side of the road. The golden belt was valued at nearly $30,000.
Police are asking anyone with any information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers.
No arrests have been made in the theft of @IAmJericho's championship belt, which was recovered today. Investigators with @TallyPD are asking anyone with information to call them at (850) 891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS. pic.twitter.com/UMZFNmd419
“I am launching a worldwide investigation using the top private investigators in the world today to find out who committed this crime. And trust me, as the AEW Champion, I promise to regain and restore and find and reclaim the AEW Championship, and once again give you another reason to finally give me the ‘thank you’ that I deserve. You’re welcome.”
According to Chris Jericho, both Kenny Omega and PAC were upset with their matchup at All Elite Wrestling’s (AEW) recent event All Out.
Speaking on his podcast, Talk is Jericho, the AEW Champion explained how both wrestlers were mad as the match they had planned was longer than the time they were allocated. This forced them to cut a bunch of stuff they wanted to include.
“Afterward, both Kenny and PAC were mad because, I guess, their match was too long and they ran out of time, and they had to cut a bunch of stuff, and they were not happy about it and meanwhile, it’s like the best match on the show,” Jericho said.
He went on to compare Omega and PAC to Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit. He juxtaposed their attitudes, sharing that they are their harshest critics in the same way Guerrero and Benoit were.
“They remind me so much of Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit, in that these guys are putting on these amazing, amazing matches but they were always mad because something didn’t go right or they didn’t hit a punch or kick the way they wanted it to, originally. They were always really hard on themselves for this.”
PAC, who replaced an injured Jon Moxley, defeated Kenny Omega during All Out. The result visibly shocked several fans in attendance. Omega is now scheduled to face Jon Moxley at AEW’s upcoming show Full Gear.
In an update to a story which will forever be mentioned in documentaries and podcasts about AEW’s origin, the world title belt was reported as found by the Tallahassee Police Department in a since deleted Facebook post.
The Tallahassee Police Department noted through social media that they located the title which was reported as stolen on Sunday. They even said that Chris Jericho may want to break out a “bit of the bubbly” now that the belt has been found:
The Facebook post noting the belt as found was deleted by the police department and a reporter for USA Today is stating the police are now saying they can’t confirm it is the actual belt yet.
The Case of the Missing @IAmJericho Championship Belt takes another turn. The Tallahassee Police Department announces on Facebook it found the belt but hastily deletes the post. @TallyPD now says it can't confirm the belt was found and calls the case "open and active" …
Here’s the heavily redacted @TallyPD report on the alleged theft of @IAmJericho’s championship belt. It says the belt was taken around 5:30 p.m. Sunday and reported stolen nearly two hours later. “The victim reported the theft of his championship wrestling belt while he was eating inside Longhorn Steakhouse. The victim stated he arrived at the Millionaire Club Airport Terminal and placed the belt inside his rented limousine. The limo driver shuttled the victim to Longhorn for dinner. The victim remained at Longhorn while the limo driver returned to the airport. The victim had taken the wrong luggage from the airport and the driver took it back to the terminal. When the driver picked up the victim from the restaurant, the belt was missing. Responding officers searched the limo and airport for the belt without success. On-call CID was consulted, and forensics responded to the scene.”
Chris Jericho has launched an official investigation to find his missing All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Championship. The promotion’s inaugural champion informed fans of his plans via a video statement uploaded to social media. He explained he had hired the “top private investigators in the world” in order to locate the belt.
“Hi, I’m AEW Champion Chris Jericho, and unfortunately less than 24 hours after I became the first AEW Champion, with blood streaming down my face after one of the hardest matches I’ve ever had in my life, some low-life scumbag committed grand larceny and robbed me of the AEW Championship.”
“[…] as a result, I am launching a worldwide investigation using the top private investigators in the world today to find out who committed this crime. And trust me, as the AEW Champion, I promise to regain and restore and find and reclaim the AEW Championship, and once again give you another reason to finally give me the ‘thank you’ that I deserve. You’re welcome.”
In case you missed it, Jericho’s championship went missing as he ate at a LongHorn Steakhouse. A police report was lodged with the Tallahassee, Florida police department.
Now LongHorn Steakhouse has also commented on the situation, writing:
“We take the safety of our guests’ property seriously and are doing everything we can to help the local authorities in their efforts. That said, @IAmJericho is a champion with or without his belt.”
We take the safety of our guests' property seriously and are doing everything we can to help the local authorities in their efforts. That said, @IAmJericho is a champion with or without his belt.
Just days after winning the AEW World Heavyweight Title Belt, Chris Jericho has reported to local police that his title belt has been stolen.
He did so on Monday, according to a report from Scott Keith’s Blog of Doom. The Tallahassee (Fla.) Police Department filed a report that detailed the incident.
According to the report, the title went missing while he was eating dinner inside a Longhorn Steakhouse at 2400 North Monroe Street. This led to the police being called and an investigation was launched.
The report lists the crime as grand theft and Jericho as the victim – Christopher “Jericho” Irvine:
The Tallahassee (Fla.) Police Department confirmed the news to ESPN on Tuesday. A spokesperson could not comment further because it is an open investigation. When a request for a comment was placed to AEW, it was not immediately returned.
Jericho beat Hangman Page to become the first champion under the AEW banner in the headliner of the All Out pay-per-view event on Saturday night
All Elite Wrestling’s weekly series on TNT will premiere Wednesday, October 2nd from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
This match was set up shortly after the first AEW pay-per-view event, Double or Nothing. At this show, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart made a surprise appearance to present the title for the first time for fans to see.
Earlier in the night at Double or Nothing, Page drew the Joker card in the Casino Battle Royale allowing him to enter at lucky number 21 where he would win the contest.
In the headliner of that same show, Jericho was victorious over Kenny Omega in a classic match.
AEW did an angle to further promote this match at the AEW Fight for the Fallen event in Jacksonville, Florida. It happened when Jericho attacked Page after his match against Kip Sabian.
Jericho came out of nowhere while wearing a Dark Order creeper mask to attack Page with the Codebreaker then took off his mask and rained down kicks/punches to his next opponent.
What are your thoughts on Chris Jericho winning the AEW World Heavyweight Title? Was this the right call by AEW officials? Sound off in the comment section.
Despite previously claiming he warned All Elite Wrestling (AEW) EVPs there would be an impending war with WWE, Chris Jericho has now stated there is no war between AEW and NXT.
“I am not at war with anyone at NXT,” Jericho said to Hollywood Life. “Why would you start a war with some minor leagues? I think we [AEW] are doing what we are doing on Wednesday night and WWE decided to counter-program with NXT.”
He explained that, for him, there is no war to be had, because he hasn’t heard of a single person in NXT. He added that there is “certainly not a war on our part because we have been doing great on our own — selling out shows and selling 10,000 tickets in five minutes without any type of war or competition.”
Jericho argued that this perceived war only helps put more eyeballs on AEW. He added that the promotion is so focused on delivering decent shows, based on their own standard, they aren’t “worrying about whatever anyone else is doing.”
He pointed to AEW utilizing his legacy as a means to intrigue new fans who may not be familiar with other AEW talent. Jericho shared that it was important for him to “build a bridge” between those fans that know who he is, but weren’t familiar with AEW.
Chris Jericho has a big weekend ahead. The 6-time World Champion looks to extend that record Saturday night. He’ll challenge Adam “Hangman” Page in the main event of AEW’s All Out pay-per-view to crown the first-ever AEW Word Heavyweight Champion.
Jericho is still demanding that AEW extend him a “thank you” for the company’s early success. His arrogance might be driving people nuts. However, according to Sportsbettingdime, it’s still highly likely that he is victorious in Chicago. A -200 favorite heading into this weekend’s PPV, Jericho and his star power are undeniably assets to AEW as they ramp up for weekly television.
Speaking of Jericho, he’s still touring regularly with his metal band, Fozzy. Last week, Jericho premiered Fozzy’s new single, Nowhere to Run, during an appearance on Busted Open Radio on Sirius XM. Jericho has announced the song will be released on on all major streaming platforms tomorrow (Thursday).
The release fulfills Jericho’s promise to have the song available to the public in time for September 14th, the night Fozzy opens for metal gods Iron Maiden in Los Angeles.
A new Fozzy album, a follow-up to the wildly popular Judas, is expected in early 2020.
Chris Jericho will be competing against Hangman Page during the main event of All Elite Wrestling’s next show, All Out. The two will clash to crown the inaugural AEW Champion.
Speaking with Busted Open Radio, Jericho commented on how he has helped to elevate Hangman Page to the next level.
“He looks like a million bucks, he wrestles great, his promos are getting better. How do you make him a star? Put him in the ring with Chris Jericho. How do you make him a bigger star? Put him in the ring with Jericho in a match for the first AEW Championship.”
He continued, “This is Hangman Page’s coronation. This is his coming-out party. I’m really excited about it. I’ve seen enough of him that I know, this is the type of guy that we want on our roster, and we’re gonna build him into a bigger star in one night than WWE has built any star they’ve had in six months.”
With so many established wrestlers Jericho could have feuded over the championship with, he believes that Page was the right choice over Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes, or Jon Moxley in order to build more top talent for AEW.
As far as he’s concerned, this one match will see Page assert himself as a main event player going forward, turning him into more of a star in one night than his entire career to date.
All Elite Wrestling (AEW) wrestler Chris Jericho doesn’t believe WWE will be granting anymore releases to its Superstars.
Speaking with Busted Open Radio, Jericho discussed AEW’s acquisition of Shawn Spears (formerly known as Tye Dillinger in WWE). He highlighted how he championed Spears into AEW, believing him to be a main event player.
“I don’t know why [Shawn Spears] sat on the sidelines for eight months,” Jericho said. “I don’t know why a lot of guys sit on the sidelines for eight months. But you know how it works up North, brother. If you fall out of grace, you’re finished being played with as Vince’s toy, you get put in the corner.”
He continued, “Thankfully, Shawn got his release. He’s the last one that will. Nobody will ever get their release from WWE again. Nobody. He got his release, Cody and him are friends. Cody knew what he was capable of. I knew what he was capable of. I championed to get him. The guy is a tremendous heel. He’s an old school heel. He looks the part. Putting him with Tully Blanchard is a great idea. He’s a main eventer. We’re going to make him into a star, just by putting him with Cody Rhodes.”
Spears would make a major impact in AEW after striking Cody Rhodes in the head with a steel chair at Fyter Fest. This assault not only saw Spears adopt the ‘Chairman’ moniker, but also set up an anticipated grudge match between himself and Rhodes at AEW’s All Out event at the end of the month.
After the announcement was made official that NXT was moving to USA Network, several wrestlers reacted to the news. One of those was All Elite Wrestling (AEW) wrestler Chris Jericho. He provided a sarcastic “#YoureWelcome” in a tweet claiming he was instrumental to this happening. Now, the former WWE Superstar has opened up more about his feelings regarding NXT’s move.
Speaking with SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio, Jericho addressed WWE’s announcement. During the conversation, he confessed he doesn’t believe Vince McMahon will be able to stay away from involving himself with the show. Jericho argued that, if he does get involved, NXT will simply become another RAW or SmackDown.
“If it’s another show on the USA Network – not on FS1, and not on the WWE Network. If it’s an official, legitimate, nationwide cable show on the USA Network, do you think Vince McMahon is going to be involved in it? Of course he is!” Jericho exclaimed. “It’s Vince McMahon; he is a genius. But here’s the thing – I think the appeal of it is that it’s its own little entity outside the WWE, and when Vince McMahon gets a hold of it and gets involved with it it is going to become another SmackDown and another RAW.”
Just Another WWE Show
Jericho speculated that with NXT on USA Network, all three brands will begin to interact with each other, making NXT “just another WWE show.”
“[…] whatever the appeal is with NXT, whatever the specialness of it is is going to be changed to another RAW and another SmackDown,” he said. “I think if you like RAW and SmackDown then you’re going to like NXT on Wednesday nights. If you don’t, then I don’t think you’re going to like NXT on Wednesday nights because there’s no way that Vince McMahon is going to stay home and not be involved with it. That is what he does, so, great. I think it’s another 2 hours of incredible WWE programming on Wednesday nights. If you love WWE, then there’s more for you to love, and if you don’t, then I don’t think it’s going to make a difference.”
As far as Jericho is concerned, this new war between WWE and AEW was inevitable. When he signed with the promotion, he believes his decision to do so “started a war in Vince McMahon’s mind. I think he likes it, I think he thrives on it which, of course, he does because this is what he has done his whole life, and he wins every war he has been in.”
He claimed he informed AEW management that there would be impending war. Despite this, AEW EVPs The Young Bucks have shared that they are unafraid of the competition to come.
AEW recently confirmed that the finals of their announced
tag team championship tournament will be taking place during the October 30th
episode of their TV show and now the company has confirmed another big match
for the same episode.
While his opponent has not been announced yet, AEW has revealed that Chris Jericho will be wrestling at the mentioned episode of their TV show.
Though this is not the only match Chris has been advertised for as the company previously announced that The Young Bucks will be teaming up with Kenny Omega to face Jericho and two mystery partners during the inaugural episode of their show.
Since Jericho is also scheduled to compete against Adam Page for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship at All Out, it’s possible that he wins this match and brings the AEW title to these TV episodes.
