Jericho Talks About Juggling WWE & Fozzy, Young Stars With The Most Potential

Chris Jericho was interviewed by The Austin Chronicle this week to promote this week’s SmackDown tapings and Fozzy’s new album. Here are some highlights of what Jericho said about:

Managing His Time Between WWE & Fozzy: “It’s really a decision that’s made for me. Back in the 2000s for the first three Fozzy records, I did the WWE and Fozzy at the same time, which was fine. But when we were doing Chasing the Grail, our last record, in 2009, myself and Rich Ward, my partner in crime, were thinking, ‘We’ve really got to take this to the next level, because this record is great.’ I left WWE when Grail came out, went touring for 16 months, did 15 countries and amassed an even bigger fanbase than we had. It was a real credibility gain for us. Then when we started doing Sin and Bones, as the singer I write the lyrics and I record the vocals, which takes about 15 days. Other than that I had about nine months of doing nothing, so that’s when I decided to come back to the WWE, knowing that when this record came out that I’d be finished for whatever indeterminate amount of time.

Feeling Pressure Headed Into His Match With Dolph Ziggler: “These guys needs guys to work with. Once again, that’s sounding egotistical, but after 22 years of being in this business, but there’s nobody in this company who’s been in the business longer – except for Undertaker. I’ve been wrestling longer than Kane, I’ve been wrestling longer than Triple H. I didn’t request to work with Ziggler. At first, I thought it was Sheamus, than I was supposed to work with Daniel Bryan, and then they just told me, OK, you’re working with Ziggler. I said, ‘Great.’ I will work with anybody, and I will do the absolute best I can to help that. I’ve been through this before. This will be the third time that I’ve left, and this may make people mad, but I’ve never been just a wrestler. I’m an entertainer. I do a lot of different things in that realm. I don’t put myself in a box when it comes. So when I get a chance to work with a guy like Ziggler, I know what I can do with him. I know how good he is. He just needs somebody to help him. And when I’m putting together matches or doing promos with these guys, things that I just see as basics, they still haven’t figured out yet. That’s not a bad thing. That’s just the experience difference, and that’s why I can help, and I think that’s why I can come and go from the WWE for years to come. I’m in the best shape of my life. I feel great. I’m enjoying this run, and if I didn’t have a tour and a record coming out, I would stay. It’s not like I can’t wait to leave – in fact, it’s the complete opposite. I’m a little sad to leave, in one way, but super-excited by the reason why I’m leaving.”

“I like the idea of passing the torch along and passing the experience along. That’s the way I was trained. I grew up in Japan, and that’s how they do it. Old guys teach the young guys, and that’s the way it is. The business is more important than any single individual, and I’ve always felt that way. Haven’t always been treated that way, but I’ve always felt that way.”

His Favorite Wrestler & His Favorite Metal Band: “Avenged Sevenfold is only starting to realize how good they are. I think they’ll be the next Metallica, and I think they’re well on their way. They’re at were Metallica was at Master of Puppets. They’re going to hook up with some producer who is going to make them even bigger. I think Bullet for My Valentine is another band that’s growing. Their singer and guitarist Matt Tuck is another guy that gets it, that understands that it’s not always about how fast and heavy you can be, but about how you groove, and catchy beats and catchy choruses.”

“As for future guys here, Ziggler’s one of them for sure. The Miz is another. I think Damien Sandow, against anything that I expected, has been doing great, and I think he’s got a great upside. I think there’s quite a few guys where things are looking up, because the WWE is a talent-driven business. Guys are going to come and go, but the ones who are going to stick are the ones who are going to be carrying this company on their backs in the future. There are some good prospects here, and that’s why I’m excited about the prospect of coming back.”

Jericho Takes Offense To Nash’s Remarks, Starts Twitter Fight

Grantland.com published a lengthy article Tuesday on the life and controversial wrestling career of Kevin Nash with the six-time world champion notably reiterating his stance on “Vanilla Midgets,” a dismissive term he used behind-the-scenes in the late ’90s in World Championship Wrestling to describe small-statured, gifted technical wrestlers such as Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero.

Nash said the professional wrestling industry died at WrestleMania XX when the pay-per-view event concluded with Benoit and Guerrero—both of whom were under six-feet-tall—reigning atop as world champions and emotionally celebrating. Chris Jericho, who worked his way up the wrestling ranks alongside Benoit and Guerrero, publicly took offense to Nash’s remarks and responded with another commonly used stance.

Jericho tweeted late Tuesday evening:

The oft-used point originated from Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer, who has repeated stated over the years that WWE had its worst financial period in company history in 1995 when Nash held the WWF Championship as Diesel.

Nash responded to Jericho’s tweet minutes later, writing:

https://twitter.com/realkevinnash/status/233066381141213184

Nash’s last insult is in reference to Jericho being the first contestant to be eliminated in the 2006 Fox Television singing reality show Celebrity Duets.

Jericho quickly shot back:

To recap, Nash’s interview comments triggering Jericho’s rebuttal were:

“When Benoit and Guerrero hugged [at the end of WrestleMania XX], that was the end of the business. Has business been the same since that WrestleMania? Has it come close to the Austin era? Has it come close to the nWo or the Hogan era? You put two fucking guys that were great workers that were the same height as the fucking referees, and I’m sorry, man. Are you going to watch a porno movie with a guy with a three-inch dick? Even if you’re not gay, you will not watch a porno movie with a guy with a three-inch dick. That’s not the standard in porno films. So you put a 5-foot-7 guy as your world champion.”

Maria Kanellis Cryptically Remarks About Kelly Kelly’s Personal Life

While recapping Monday’s episode of Raw for Maria Menounos’ media network AfterBuzzTV.com, former WWE performer Maria Kanellis used the open forum to cryptically remark about Kelly Kelly’s personal life.

The WWE Diva appeared on Raw for the first time in over two months and scored a singles match victory over Eve following a surprise hurricanrana. “There was a lot of speculation that [Kelly Kelly] was leaving for good. So they must have come to terms on her contract and she’s still here,” Kanellis states.

Co-host Josh Padgett and special guest Nigel McGuinness then ask Kanellis whether she had “backstage heat” with Kelly, who she worked alongside with in WWE from 2006 to 2010. She responds in a cryptic manner.

“I just think that sometimes you gotta be careful what photos end up on the Internet when people are involved with other people because it makes us girls that work our tails off to be very good individuals and be good at our job look trashy,” stated Kanellis, who prides herself in being a ‘Lady’.

McGuinness says he never saw “those photos” and feels that Kelly should set up her own website. “Trending now, naked pictures of Kelly Kelly,” he jokes. “The First Lady of Ring of Honor” responds, “I don’t mind those, naked it up if you’re by yourself, but if you’re with someone else’s someone else…I don’t like that. Scandalous and I don’t like it. It’s exact opposite of what I’m about. I think that you have to be careful with that stuff. Especially if you’re trying to change…”

At this point, Kanellis is directed by the producer to change the subject to Kelly’s match. She responds, “I don’t want to go the next match.” She then continues, “Especially if you’re trying to change the opinions people are having about a certain group of individuals. You know what I mean? I have a problem with that because I fought my entire life to try and be just as strong as men and just as smart, and of course, the first thing that happens, is I get a stupid gimmick. So what did I do? I got on Celebrity Apprentice. And as soon as I was out of WWE, I started to make a change with my life, but it was not random photos of me with someone else’s someone else—because they don’t go away.”

Regarding the photos in question, Kanellis appears to be referencing some images that surfaced online in early 2009 of Kelly canoodling with a married man in fellow WWE Superstar Chris Jericho—the batch included a shot of the two kissing. It has been heavily speculated that the two were involved in a secret romantic relationship then; a Google.com search for the term “chris jericho kelly kelly” leads to numerous suggest results including “chris jericho kelly kelly kissing,” “chris jericho kelly kelly dating,” “chris jericho and kelly kelly a couple” and “chris jericho kelly kelly together.”

Kelly appeared to respond to Kanellis’ cryptic remarks Tuesday evening via Twitter, herself cryptically stating, “I will never mention your name, you will never be relevant. If I have something to say about you, I will say it to you ? #thebiggerperson.”

Kanellis responded, “Relevant enough to call me. #IMALADY.” She then deleted the remark, but stands by her show comments.

She tweeted, “@afterbuzztv is a show about a show. Every show discusses the show, news and gossip. If you don’t like you’re dirty laundry aired maybe you should be more careful about what shows up on the Internet.”

Jericho Talks About Being a Wrestler & A Rock Star, Leaving WWE

Chris Jericho was recently interviewed by SoundSpike. In the interview he talks about his music and wrestling gigs. Here are some highlights.

Simultaneously Being a Pro Wrestler & A Rock Star: “I’ve been nothing but a wrestling fan and a music fan since I was a young kid. I just couldn’t decide which one of them I wanted to do. So I said, ‘I’ll do them both.’ I’ll be the first singer-wrestler the same way that Jared Leto is the first actor-singer with 30 Seconds to Mars. The only person who will tell you you can’t do it is you. If you say you can do it, then you have to make it happen.”

Being Excited For The Upcoming “Uproar” Tour: Yeah, very excited. I mean, after doing this for 13 years, we’ve never done a full U.S. tour. So not only is it a full U.S. tour, it’s one of the biggest of the summer. So we’re really, really pumped about it, excited to get there and steal the show and tear some heads off every night.

Balancing Wrestling with Music: I’ll be done wrestling at that point. You can’t balance them both. I came back to wrestling when we were recording “Sin and Bones,” knowing that as soon as the record came out, I’d be done with the WWE. That’s what’s happened. I think the last gig is the same day as the record comes out, Aug. 14, then we go straight to Uproar and then we’re off.

What Inspired The New Album “Sin and Bones”?: “Chasing the Grail” did a lot for us, our last record in 2010. We got a lot of momentum built up for that and from the live shows that we played. We wanted to continue in the same vein in what we were doing with “Grail.” We kind of figured out, after all these years, what it is that we could pass, which is very heavy riffs and melodic and hooky choruses. It’s almost like if Metallica and Journey and Coldplay had a three way this is what ended up. We wanted to do more of that with “Sin and Bones.” We kind of had this monster. We wanted to make it our “Black” album. What I mean by that is the “Black” album had all 12 songs that were all loosely related to each other. Not lyrically, but there’s a certain feel to that record, a certain vibe to it. We wanted to do Fozzy’s “Black” album by having 10 songs that all have a smilar feel and a similar vibe and keep everything within the blocks. I think that’s what we did. That’s why this record is going to be a really big success. It’s the epitome of who we are as a band, what we do songwriting and performance-wise.

What Can Fans Expect From Fozzy at Uproar?: We’re going to steal the show every night. We’re a very road-trained band. We’ve been touring in dozens of countries for the last 10 years. We have five amazing show business veterans who know exactly what to do to have a great show, to get the crowd into the show and to put on a show. I always like to say the only people that don’t like Fozzy are the ones that have never heard us or seen us. That’s gonna change at Uproar. My goal every night is for people to go, “You know Godsmack was great but Fozzy, man, those guys were amazing. We didn’t expect them to be like that.” That’s what we like. We’ve made a whole career off of low expectations and I plan to blow people’s heads off with this tour. I know we have the ability to. We’re just raring to go and we’re excited.

Jericho Talks About His Current Run & How Wrestling Has Changed

Chris Jericho spoke with LocalBozo.com about his latest WWE run, his band’s new CD, his future plans and more. Here are some highlights:

His latest WWE run and if wrestling is still as fun for him: “If it wasn’t fun for me I wouldn’t do it, you know? I took time off on the ‘Chasing the Grail’ tour and once that tour was done it was time to move forward doing a new record and my job as a singer is to write the lyrics and to sing on the record. Lyrics were all done and doing vocals took about 15 days total so other than that I had nine months of nothing really going on. So it was the perfect opportunity to step back into WWE for awhile. But the plan was always when the new record came out, then I would leave and go back full time with Fozzy.”

“So you know, we’ll see what happens in the future. I still love doing what I do in the WWE but like I said, Fozzy’s kind of taking precedence at this point. With all the momentum and great things we have going on, it’s cool to see this second dream come true. But it’s good to know too that WWE’s always gonna be there and I feel great. I thought this last run was awesome and I feel better than I did, you know, 3,4,5 years ago. So, you know, I’m raring to go for the next round.”

How wrestling has changed: “The people that are stepping away are ones that have been there for years and years and years. It’s a grueling schedule- physically, mentally. Traveling is hard. It’s good to know that you have these other options and you have to explore them. For me, I wrestled for 15 years straight every day, left for a couple years, came back for another three years, wrestled straight every day almost, and then, you know, left for awhile, came back for nine months.”

“As you get older, I think that’s a good schedule. I’ve kind of built up my status in the WWE where I can do that. Not everybody can, but you know, you look at guys like The Rock or… You know the thing is when Rock came back, he just comes back for once or twice, I came back and did every show. I was in Abilene, Texas working house shows as well as working Madison Square Garden. I didn’t pick and choose my spots. I came back for nine months and that’s the way I’ll always be. I like doing the whole cycle and if I came back for a month, I’d still do as many house show matches, not just do TVs and pay per views. So, you know, for me I like doing it. Like I said, I’ve been playing with Fozzy since 2000and I’ve been playing in bands since I was 12, so it’s not a matter of making this choice, it’s who I am and it’s just what I do at this point. So from this point forward that’ll be how I work WWE. I’ll just be coming in and out when I have openings in my schedule, but when I come in, I’ll make sure to give 1000% and do as many shows as I can in that timeframe.”
