Del Rio Will Be Champion, Jericho’s WWE Return & More

– Following the surprise retirement of Edge, it’s widely assumed in WWE that it’s only a matter of time before Alberto Del Rio is crowned the new World Heavyweight champion – and it will most likely happen at Extreme Rules when he faces Christian in a Ladder match for the vacant title.

Details On Triple H’s Booking Philosphy & Backstage Power

-It’s no secret that WWE star Triple H is one of the most powerful players behind the scenes in WWE. Along with this wife Stephanie, Triple H will have a great deal of influence over the company’s direction in the coming years.

Triple H was recently named the head of WWE’s new talent development program, with Sin Cara being the first superstar he signed. The latest performer Triple H is working with is former TNA Knockouts champion Awesome Kong. On Monday’s RAW, we saw the first promo video hyping the upcoming debut of Kong. (VIDEO)

According to sources, the vignettes that WWE has aired for Sin Cara and Awesome Kong are part of Triple H’s (somewhat old-school) philosophy of wanting to build up fans’ anticipation for new characters, as opposed to just having them show up on TV out of the blue.

Aside from wanting to get fans buzzing about a new superstar or diva prior to their debuts, Triple H is also said to be adamant about not bringing new talent to the main roster before they are ready.

In recent years we’ve seen dozens of superstars brought to the main roster before they were “ready for prime time” – it quickly become apparent that they’re totally green and their characters are damaged to the point where they’re never taken seriously.

COMMENT BELOW and tell us what you think about Triple H’s approach to introducing new talent .. Do you think he’s right? Is this something WWE has been missing for years – or are these “slow build” promo videos unnecessary?

Previews For Tonight’s RAW, Tough Enough & DWTS

– WWE Tough Enough will move to it’s permanent timeslot tonight at 8PM (Eastern)  on the USA Network, one hour before RAW. John Cena will be featured on tonight’s show, which is titled “Five for Flinching.”

Steve Austin wrote on Twitter over the weekend that Bill DeMott “totally destroys everthing in his path” on tonight’s show.

– Tonight’s episode of WWE RAW takes place from the Webster Bank Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, Connecticut. As of early Monday afternoon, no matches have been announced yet for the show. With WWE’s next pay-per-view, Extreme Rules, just 3 weeks away, there’s a good chance we’ll find out that show’s RAW brand main event tonight.

The advertised dark match main event will see John Cena and Randy Orton teaming up against WWE champion The Miz and Nexus leader C.M. Punk.

WWE United States Champion Sheamus likely will not be on RAW tonight, as he was overseas in Qatar on Sunday promoting WWE’s upcoming show there. Considering the WWE crews are flying out for Europe later this week, it would be unlikely for them to make him fly back from Qatar to the United States for RAW tonight and then back out to England this week.

Unfortunately for fans of The Rock, he won’t be at RAW tonight, as he’s currently in Brazil promoting his new movie, Fast Five.

– Chris Jericho will continue on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars tonight. He wrote the following on Sunday:

“Had the best week of rehearsals w @cherylburke yet! Really stoked for tomorrows performance. In otherwords, it’s time for maximum DANSOSITY!”

Jericho and Toscano are said to be friends and it was Chris Jericho who passed along a note from Ballas to Toscano, which led to their first date last week.

– As we reported yesterday, Shane McMahon appeared at Sunday’s Masters golf tournament and was briefly shown on camera during the broadcast. For those wondering what Shane was doing there, he is currently sits on the Board of Directions for International Sports Management – which represents several top golfers, including Ernie Els and Rory McIlroy.

Graham Wants To Beat Up Jericho, Wants Out Of WWE HOF

“Superstar” Billy Graham stated in an interview with the Ottawa Sun that he wants out of the WWE Hall of Fame. The former wrestling star, now 67, is demanding he be removed from their list of inductees because he is appalled at the inclusion of Abdullah the Butcher.

“It is a shameless organization to induct a bloodthirsty animal such as Abdullah The Butcher into their worthless and embarrassing Hall of Fame and I want the name of Superstar Billy Graham to be no part of it. WWE and their Hall of Fame is disgustingly embarrassing, I want out,” Graham said.

Graham, who was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2004, sold his ring on eBay two years ago.

Graham is also upset with Jericho, who, in his book, Undisputed: How to Become the World Champion in 1,372 Easy Steps, took issue with comments made by the WWE Hall of Famer following Chris Benoit’s double murder suicide.

“Jericho, you have made a huge mistake. You call me an egotistical idiot. If you walked by right now, I would beat the living hell out of you, then spit on your grave for trying to destroy my reputation in your phony little book,” Graham said.

When contacted for a response, Jericho said: “God bless him and best of luck in all he does in the future.”

Chris Jericho’s Blogs About Monday’s DWTS Performance

Chris Jericho has updated his Dancing With The Stars blog over at TVSquad.com talking about Monday’s tribute performance to his mother, which you can see video footage of here. Jericho wrote:

“As a performer, there’s a goal I set out to accomplish every time I step onto the stage. Whether it’s making people cheer (or boo) in the WWE, having people sing along to my songs with Fozzy or engaging people with my books, there’s a certain magic that comes with knowing that you’ve affected people.

When I first agreed to do ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ after two previous invitations, I really had no idea what I was getting myself into. The concept of ballroom dancing was as foreign to me as a Werner Herzog film, and I had no expectations of what I could or couldn’t do on the floor. Would I actually be able to do it? Could I entertain people with my moves, my charisma and my showmanship? And, more importantly, could I make them feel something special while they watched me?

The first week I was a jittery jitterson and happy to get it over with. The second week I felt much more comfortable, and I think I surprised some people with the lightness of my footwork. But I still hadn’t created any magic.

That changed Monday night, when I danced the rumba to ‘Let It Be,’ by the Beatles, as a tribute to my mother, Loretta. She passed away in 2005, after having traveled a hard road for the previous 15 years of her life. But she always supported me in anything I did.

It’s funny ’cause I don’t think she really understood wrestling. She watched the wrestling matches because I was on, but she had no emotional attachment to what I was doing. But she loved dancing! I remember watching ‘Solid Gold’ (a musical variety show that was on every Saturday night in the early ’80s) with her, and she was always impressed with the Solid Gold Dancers, a troupe of hot chicks (or “gals,” as she called them) who would appear throughout the show like a glittery version of The Fly Girls. (Carrie Ann Inaba, represent, yo!)

“I would’ve made a great Solid Gold Dancer,” my mom always said. And she would’ve. My mother was beautiful and sexy — am I allowed to say that about dear old mum? — with a dancer’s body and a great personality. It’s because of this that I know she would be a HUGE ‘DWTS’ fan and would’ve watched the show religiously.

She would’ve been so proud of me for doing the show, and that’s one of the main reasons I wanted to dance for her. Doing the ‘Let It Be’ performance was amazing for me. To dance such a beautifully choreographed routine to one of the best songs by my favorite band, for my mum, almost moved me to tears.

What I didn’t expect was that it would move others to tears. All I heard after the show from family, friends and pure strangers was how they had shed a tear when they watched Cheryl Burke and I perform. They felt what I was feeling. They related to it. They empathized with it. They were moved by it.

The atmosphere in the studio Monday night was electric. There was magic in the air. And, for the first time since I began this journey almost six weeks ago, I felt like a dancer. Pure, raw emotion that moves people and provides them with a magical moment is worth more than any score. And Team Chericho felt like we scored three 10s when it came to creating such a special moment. As a performer, that’s all that I strive for.”

Jericho wrote the following on Twitter regarding the close call:

“Wow, what a mindfunk. But like Tom (a judge) said, it’s the final two, not the bottom two. Don’t forget that every vote counts…

“Big false finish on DWTS tonight, but I kicked out at two and a half! Ready for the big babyface comeback next week.”

Unlike previous weeks, there were no WWE divas shown in the crowd this week.

Chris Jericho Becomes Chris Irvine, Update On Candice Michelle

— Former WWE Women’s Champion Candice Michelle said today on Twitter that she is working an idea for a reality show involving herself and ‘a bunch of (her) fav ex divas’.

— The theme for Monday’s episode of Dancing With The Stars was personal stories, with the dancers choosing a song that is important to them. Chris Jericho chose The Beatles’ “Let It Be”.

In a pre-taped segment, Jericho recalled the story of his mother suffering an accident when he was training to be a wrestler, which confined her to a wheelchair until her passing in 2005. He prepared to give up wrestling but she insisted he continue pursuing his dreams.

Jericho said his real name is Chris Irvine and that for the first time in his professional life he would be performing as himself and not a character.

Introduced as Chris Irvine, he danced the rumba with partner Cheryl Burke to receive a score of 21. The judges felted he lacked technical skill but complimented him on the emotional connection.

Chris Jericho Blogs About His Debut On DWTS Last Week

Former WWE superstar Chris Jericho is doing some blogging for TVSquad.com to give some behind-the-scenes insight into his current involvement on ABC’s Dancing With The Stars show.

“I’ve performed in front of crowds of up to 70,000 people for more than two decades, but last week I experienced a whole different animal,” said Jericho.

“Something so foreign, so terrifying, so intimidating that, beforehand, I was as nervous as a 12-year-old girl meeting Justin Bieber for the first time. Yes, kiddies, I was about to make my ballroom debut on ‘Dancing With the Stars’! After rehearsing incessantly for more than three weeks with my partner Cheryl Burke, it was finally time to do the first show.

“My dress rehearsals had been a bit shaky — performing my routine in the actual ‘DWTS’ studio was scary. Suddenly the guy who had a so-called advantage because of years of performing live was behind the eight ball.

Chamber PPV Way Down, Jericho Compares Dancing & WWE

– WWE’s corporate website has posted the preliminary buyrate for February’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view and this year’s show is way down from 2010. WWE Elimination Chamber 2011 drew approximately 200,000 buys, down a staggering 30% from last year’s 285,000.

– Chris Jericho spoke to Digitalspy.com this week and had this to say about the differences between wrestling and dancing:

“It’s funny because when there are a lot of things about [dancing and wrestling] that are similar. There’s a lot of leverage and weight distribution and balance. Then there’s performing in front of a live crowd, your marks, choreography and as a musician, following the beat. It’s not that foreign as it seems at first. The training’s really hard. It’s probably the hardest training I’ve ever done, but it’s not futile. There are moves in dancing that I’ve never done before – you’re turning your knee outwards, your elbow on the side. And hunching over – dancing’s very elongated, very regal. Your neck stretches, your shoulders are down. So I’m focusing on getting rid of those bad habits.”

Chris Jericho Talks About Returning To WWE, DWTS

The WWE website has published a new interview with Jericho, which you can read here in its entirety. During the piece, Jericho said he plans to make a full-time return to WWE when he can be 100% committed to the company.

“One of the reasons I’m not in WWE now is DWTS,” Jericho said. “You have to be 100 percent physically and mentally devoted to one or the other. You can’t do both. I’m sure I’ll be back. I have to return to WWE to take my persona back.”

Jericho clarified what he meant by “taking his persona back” – and took a few shots at WWE champion The Miz.

“I watched Raw on Monday and felt like I was having an out of body experience. I was watching myself on live TV! Then I realized I hadn’t gotten that ugly and become that bad of a wrestler and realized I was actually watching the current WWE Champion, The Miz.”

After teasing last week that he’d be returning to WWE television on Friday’s SmackDown, former WWE star Chris Jericho was featured in a video package hyping his appearance on the upcoming season of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. Transcript By: Patrick Kelley

Back in 2005, Chris Jericho joined us for the very first time. That interview was a landmark interview for us as it was the first interview that saw James solo from his former co-host and that interview was used as a demo to land a spot on “The Blaze” 1260 AM where The Interactive Interview, now Interactive Wrestling Radio, got perhaps its most exposure ever.

Fast forward 6 years, we’re still here! And, Chris Jericho is back with us for another round. This time, we are splitting from our former show station which we were on for over 2 years. So, it seems like when Chris Jericho comes knocking, the Epicenter starts shaking things up, puns fully intended.

A WMA file and a YouTube video can be downloaded to hear this great interview. If you like this interview, please check out our Store/Merchandise section and help keep us going 100% free!

CHRIS JERICHO

– Jericho joins TII once again to plug his new book “Undisputed” which chronicles his time in the WWE, picking up right where the first book left off.

– Chris has fun with the hosts as he jokingly refers to Patrick sounding like a midget & James being a nerd!

– He is pleased with the early success of the book. Presales alone led to it making the New York’s Best Seller list. This leads into a lighthearted discussion about Mick Foley & whether or not Chris will make the list more times than him.

– It is also brought up that Jericho’s book was published by the same company that also published Mick Foley’s “Countdown to Lockdown” & Bret Hart’s “Hitman: My Real Life in the Cartoon World of Wrestling”. Jericho was the first to work with that company, as he worked with them on his first book “A Lion’s Tale” and joked that he was “Breaking down the walls at Grand Central Publishing”

– The reason both of his books were written outside of the WWE is that they never asked him to write one. When he left originally in 2005 and was approached about doing a biography, he thought that it would be all one large biography. After realizing that he had a lot of good stories to tell, he decided to split it into two. He originally only signed the one book deal, but after the success of “A Lion’s Tale”, he got signed up to do another. He also left the door open for a third book.

– The discussion shifts towards his band Fozzy. “Undisputed” also goes into detail about the creation of the band. He has always dreamed of being both a wrestler & a musician. He has enjoyed success at both. He also comments that he’s never thought of himself as just a wrestler but as a showman and a fully rounded performer.

– He goes into his big announcement which he could not make at the time of the interview. It was later revealed that he would be the host of the Golden God Awards Show where he will also perform with Fozzy. He swore here that his announcement would NOT be wrestling related and that he will have no role to play at Wrestlemania XXVII. This also leads into Chris telling a funny story about a wrestling fan that ran into him at an airport and insisted he was going to be at the Elimination Chamber PPV.

– Working with Steamboat was a heavily talked about feud from 2009, and Jericho was very happy with how it turned out. He puts Steamboat over as a natural talent, and was amazed at how well Steamboat performed after being away for so long. Originally, the match at Wrestlemania XXV was supposed to be him against Snuka, Piper, & Valentine. He thought that match would be tough to carry, but the idea was that Jericho would face participants from the first Wrestlemania and also a Hall of Famer. Jericho then suggested Steamboat take one of the spots, and after some planning, Ricky was inducted to the Hall of Fame that year. He also says that he had matches with Ricky in Japan & South Carolina that were untelevised but “really, really good”.

– When asked about possibly suffering some of the same backlash as The Rock for “leaving” wrestling to pursue other interests, Jericho says that everything he does is something that he wants to do and he wants to grow to become the best all around performer he can be.

– When comparing the two books he’s written, he says that the positive feedback he got on “Lion’s Tale” is that it was mostly information that most people were unfamiliar with, so it was fascinating. However, with “Undisputed”, the information is very current & familiar, so fans are excited to get more details behind the stuff they’ve already seen.

– He admits to being his own worst critic and what he has written in both of his books are very honest & true to how he feels, both good & bad.

– When talking about the change of character he did in 2008, he says that it was perfectly natural for him to play. He created the character and wanted to be something completely different from what he had done before. He also notes that most heels in the WWE now are trying emulate that character. When he returns, he’ll want to reinvent his character again. “I never look back to the past”.
