Chris Jericho Blasts TNA For The Lame 3/3/11 Video

Chris Jericho appeared on the Live Audio Wrestling radio show over the weekend and ripped apart TNA for the lame “3/3/11” video that aired at the end of last week’s iMPACT! TNA had hyped the “most shocking moment of the year” – and delivered a weak ripoff of WWE’s recent 2/21/11 videos. Here’s what Jericho said about the 3/3/11 video and why its a perfect example of whats wrong with TNA:

‘It drives me nuts and I’ll tell you the reason why. I am the biggest fan of TNA as a concept. I want them to be huge, Vince wants them to be huge because the more competition there is, it’s better for the business, it’s better for the boys, it’s better is for the fans. I don’t understand their obsession with copying the WWE I think it’s lame, I think its bush league and I don’t get it, they have some of the best talent, some great idea men. Why do they do this? Why do their guys go out there and say ‘When I was in the WWE I was left behind and I was held back’.”

“If I was working for TNA I would project that it’s the greatest wrestling company in the world because if you’re not projecting it, why is anyone going to believe it? When we were in ECW it was small, I never made more than $250 a show but you would die for that company and when you came across that way, the fans came across that way and suddenly you have this underground revolution going on and it was real, it was a revolution, people believed it was the best. No one in TNA believes they are in the best company and if they don’t believe it then why am I going to believe it as a fan? Why am I going to buy their product?”

“It’s just so bush league, they can do better than that and the guys on top there should know better and it really makes me mad because they’re wasting money and they don’t have to be wasting money but I’m not burying TNA I’m saying you should be ashamed of yourself because you can do better.'”

Here’s a recap of Slam Wrestling’s recent interview with Chris Jericho:

Triple H taking over WWE: “He’s going to take over the company. This isn’t the year 2000 anymore where he was trying to bury me. Nobody wants to be Bruce Hart, where he takes over Stampede Wrestling and goes out of business two years later after his father had it for 40 years.”

Returning to WWE: “It could be two days down the road. I’m still a huge fan of the business. When it’s time to go back, I’ll go back.”

Favoring a PG-13 product: “I think I did better in the PG-13 environment,” he says. “It’s easier to get pops when you say, ‘ass.’ they’re going ‘tee-hee-hee, he said a swear word.’ I wasn’t really doing any swearing. I just go with the flow. If I have to do an X-rated environment, I’ll do that. And if it’s PG, I’ll do that.”

“You can liken it somewhat to the Super Bowl, I suppose, but the other aspect of it is it’s a hybrid of all forms of sport entertainment rolled into one. There’s nothing like WrestleMania. It’s like the Super Bowl combined with a Broadway play. Maybe throw in a little demolition derby along with maybe Disney On Ice. It’s a combination of so many things, and you’ve never seen anything like WrestleMania before. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime event. To be there, to see it, to feel it, to experience it, and you have to really see it to believe it.”

Jericho Says He Won’t Be At WM27 & Comments On DWTS

We’ve been reporting this week that former WWE wrestler Chris Jericho will be a part of the upcoming season of the hit ABC network show, Dancing With The Stars.

As part of his media tour to promote his new book Undisputed, Jericho appeared on the “Open Mike” radio show on 740 The Game in Orlando, FL on Monday and was asked whether the “major announcement” he’s been teasing in recent weeks will be that he’ll be dancing with the stars.

“People keep asking me that and they also keep asking me if I’m going to be the lead singer of Velvet Revolver,” Jericho said. “Neither one of those things is what my announcement is. It would be nice to do either or but that’s not what I’m thinking about when I’m talking about my announcement.”

Instead, Jericho said that the announcement actually has to do with his rock band Fozzy.

“I’ve been threatening this announcement for about three weeks now. It’s basically something to do with what’s going on this summer. I kind of alluded to it … a couple of big shows we’re hoping to get confirmation on pretty soon.”

The fact that the announcement is not related to DWTS does not mean he won’t still be on the show. The full cast of DWTS will be announced next Monday night, February 28th, during ABC’s The Bachelor show.

Jericho also commented on whether he’d be joining returning WWE stars The Rock, Triple H and the Undertaker as part of WWE’s upcoming WrestleMania 27 pay-per-view. Unfortunately for Jericho fans, it’s not looking good.

“Yeah, it would be great to be a part of it,” he said, “But I think at this point in time with all the guys that are coming back … The Rock came back and obviously Triple H will be back soon and probably The Undertaker. All these guys are returning and so it’s better for me not to be there and get lost in the shuffle of everybody that comes back and all the hoopla of WrestleMania.”

CM Punk Talks About His Goals, FCW Star Dating Isis, Jericho

– CM Punk, a WWE Triple Crown Champion and the only WWE Superstar to win the Money in the Bank Ladder Match two years in a row, revealed to WWE Magazine what he has left to accomplish.

“Obviously, I’ll always be known as the guy who won back-to-back Money in the Bank Ladder Matches at WrestleMania. So I think that’s the goal to beat. There aren’t a lot of things that I have left to do,” he said. “There are two titles that I haven’t won: One of them is the United States Championship, and the other is the WWE Championship. I’m not one to think that I’m beyond the U.S. Title. I’m kind of a “collect-them-all” type. But I’ve got three big things left.

“I have to win a Royal Rumble; I have to win main-event ‘Mania; and I have to win that WWE Title. So I don’t think my defining ‘Mania moment’s happened yet.”

– Chris Jericho appeared on Fuse Network’s Hoppus on Music over the weekend.

According to a reliable source, Chris Jericho is being strongly considered to be a part of the next season of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars show.

Chris Jericho Talks Chris Benoit, Advice For TNA, A Third Book

Ryan Rider sent the following:

CHRIS JERICHO INTERVIEW RECAP – MAIN EVENT RADIO

Chris Jericho Interview Recap: Chris Jericho appeared on the Main Event this past Sunday. The professional wrestler, former world champion, rock star, and actor discussed his new book Undisputed, already a New York Times Bestseller; as well as the status of his wrestling career, advice for TNA, throwing tobacco spit in the Rock’s face, his matches with Chris Benoit being buried in history, his band Fozzy, and more. Jericho is no stranger to The Main Event, making this his sixth appearance on the program.

SHOW: The Main Event, Sundays on CJLO 1690AM in Montreal
HOST: Ryan Rider

I would like to introduce someone for his record breaking 5th appearance on the Main Event…he is a 2 time interview of the year winner…he is the Ayatollah of Rock N’ Rolla with his band Fozzy…the first ever WWE Undisputed world champion…his new book titled Undisputed is in stores everywhere now…he is froot…he has travelled the world countless times and lives to tell his tales…let me present, Chris Jericho, welcome back into the Main Event!!

1) Well of course you’ve got your brand new book, Undisputed, which as mentioned is in stores everywhere now. How did writing this book differ from your first one, the New York Times Bestseller, A Lion’s Tale?

Undisputed is now officially a New York Times Bestseller. It is very gratifying. It takes a lot of time to write a book; it took a year and a half to get it how I wanted it. It feels good. Many times when you do something for the first time it’s always unchartered waters. You don’t really know how to do it, where to go. Now that I have one under my belt, I kind of knew the shortcuts but it’s a long arduous process. That will never change. This time I had more experience, more knowledge. It probably went by a little bit quicker because of my experience with the first one. If you’re going to do it right – for both of these books I wrote every word that you see. Everybody seems to like it, it’s being critically acclaimed. This is the type of buzz that you want.

2) One of the things I was surprised about in the early part of the book was the amount of heat that you had coming into WWE. The “tobacco spit” incident with the Rock… why do you think that the rock never laid into you for it and has that subject ever come back up in a conversation with rocky?

He remembers it, of course he does. What happened was it was the first match I ever had against The Rock. I did have a lot of animosity and uphill battles when I first got to WWE. I picked up a cup from the floor but when I threw it in the Rock’s face it wasn’t beer or soda, it was tobacco spit juice. He was really freaking out, it went in his eyes. He never really did nuts on me about it. I think because he kind of emphasized with me about it because he came in with a lot of animosity coming in. He kind of had the same thing when he was first coming in – he got a big push coming in, a lot of people didn’t like him. He got a really big push right off the bat and people didn’t like him. The cream always rises to the top. He was my only ally when I first got there in 1999.

3) You seem to be your own biggest critic throughout both of your books. Do you ever feel that you are a bit too harsh on yourself?

It’s one of the reasons I’m always successful in everything I’ve done. I’ve never settled for anything. I’ve always wanted better. I always want it perfect, but nothing could ever be perfect. It makes you strive for that. It makes you create better moments in wrestling, or in music, or in writing. As an artist you always want to get better. Every time you sit back and think “I am the best in the world at what I do”, but if you believe that all the time then you’re living in denial. That’s something that people appreciate in both my books is that I’m always very honest. When something didn’t work out the way I wanted it to work out I had no problems bringing it up and facing it. It makes for great stories and great writing no matter what the situation might be. I think Undisputed overall is a better book than A Lion’s Tale because it is just as funny, just as honest but it a lot deeper because of all the experiences I went through during the time period I wrote about. The first book is written from a guy in his 20?s with a frivolous and fancy free type of vibe. Things in life hit you in different ways. Mature experiences, grown up experiences seen from a guy in his 30?s sees it in a different vibe; but still very funny, very entertaining. A good movie will take you through an emotional roller coaster. That’s what Undisputed does.

4) Numerous times in the book you state that it is a shame that many of your classic matches are buried and technically do not exist anymore. Do you think that WWE should acknowledge the matches that you had with Chris Benoit?

I don’t really want to watch them. I don’t think I would get the same enjoyment or vibe from them after all that’s happened. I don’t blame Vince for now using them because he [Benoit] did a lot to damage the industry. It’s not a shame that they’re not shown; it’s a shame because of what happened. I would feel very uncomfortable at this point, maybe in the future, but not right now.

5) Wrestlemania X8. You got 1/5 of what your opponent HHH got paid for the event. I heard that Hogan wasn’t happy with his pay at the event either compared to what he got in the old days of Wrestlemania. Why, when you were the champion, did they book you so atrociously as Steph’s lackey and then sent you a low-end paycheck?

One didn’t have anything to do with the other. You can read the whole story in the book. It was my idea but the other part of the story where Stephanie and I were having an affair was left out. Then I would end up being pussy-whipped by her. People in the crowd always know someone who meets a girl and then you never see the guy again. Next thing you know the guy is wearing the same clothes as her, likes the same music as her. I thought it would be really good. Vince liked that part of it but not the other part of it. I was basically pussy whipped without the pussy. IMO I wasn’t really quite ready for it. It wouldn’t be booked like that the other 5 championship reigns I had. But at the time I was just trying to keep my head above the water and be a good soldier. This made for great stories in the book. Just because you’re the world champion doesn’t mean you’re the best. That was the problem at the time, I wasn’t the best guy in the company even though I was the champion. And that was the problem. You learn and get better as a performer. I had a better repore with Vince, with the performers. You get better with age. And that’s the way it should be. Whether you’re a performer, a soldier, a computer programmer, or the President of the United States, as you get more experience you get better overall.

7) Speaking of booking…you make a jab at TNA’s booking in your book. You also posted some tweets on your Twitter page (quote: After 10 yrs TNA talent still have an inferiority complex. If u don’t think that u work for the BEST COMPANY EVER then nobody else will! As a performer u hav to act and project that where u work is the pinnacle of competition! If not then the whole place just seems second rate)…What advice do you have for them?

When we worked in ECW it was a small company, I wasn’t making more than $250 a match, but you believed in that company. You believed you were better than WWE or WCW. When you believed it, the fans believed it. There were people there who would die for the company. That’s how you gain fans. If you don’t have the confidence in yourselves. If I’m watching something where they basically say we’re #2, and always talking about #1. Then why would I watch #2? I would just switch the channel to #1. If you work somewhere, you need to project that this is the best place in the world. Otherwise then why are you there, why are you wasting your time being there? I want TNA to grow as a company, it’s better for me as a performer and me as a businessman. But how can they grow if every chance they get they are constantly talking about up north and the WWF? When I was up north everything was against me and now I’m the champion. Well that makes you look bad. If I was working for TNA I would say that this is the best company in the world and this is where the best competition is. And leave it at that. If you don’t believe that then you shouldn’t be on TV working there.

8) What is the status of your wrestling career right now? I assume that you plan to come back down the line, but will this be sooner or later?

I left the WWE in September to tour with Fozzy. We have a lot of momentum behind us. We’ve been to England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, France, Belgium, Australia, Canada, we just did a show in Los Angeles a few weeks ago which was cool. When I was a kid I had two dreams: to be a wrestling and to be a rock star. I’m not sure what’s going to happen with wrestling. When the time comes, if I feel like I’m ready to go back and that I’m going to be able to reinvent myself and do something better. Roll the dice, who knows. In 2005, I knew that I might have never came back, I was really burned out on wrestling. I knew that if I came back I wanted to be better than ever. This last time I wasn’t burned out, I just had other projects. I’m still a big fan of the product. Whatever happens, happens. I’ve been very fortunate that I’ve never contained myself within the wrestling box. I have a lot of projects that are very successful that I need to spend time on. A lot of people get mad at me by that but that’s what Chris Jericho has always been. If my name is on it then it is the very best that I can possibly do. In the WWE, if I was there right now I would not be 100%. And you can’t be that way when you’re working there, you have to be 100% committed. If not, step aside and let someone else take over that is.

You’re going to have to wait until Book #3. Undisputed ends when I return to the WWE in 2007. There is already 3 ½ years of material including the 3 best years of my career. Undisputed is going to do even better than A Lion’s Tale. There is no reason to not do #3. The material I have for #3 is just as good as the first 2. I still have a few years to go before I write but I would definitely like to write another one. But it is not about the numbers, it is about the quality. If I don’t think it would be as good, I won’t do it.

Jericho’s Next Career Move, What Happened After SmackDown

– WWE has posted footage of what happened after this week’s SmackDown went off the air. where Vickie Guerrero came out and demanded a rematch for Dolph Ziggler, following Dolph’s World Heavyweight Title loss and storyline firing.

Teddy Long came out and ordered Vickie Guerrero out of the building. Ziggler refused to leave the ring so Teddy introduced his special security – Big Show. Show knocked out Ziggler and then carried him away from the ring on his shoulders.

– Radio personality Eddie Trunk, a friend of Chris Jericho’s, said last week that Jericho’s next career move will be shocking. “Congrats to my bud and what he will be announcing he is doing next will be a shocker,” said Trunk. “I’ll leave it at that.”

Reader Derek Sousa sent this in: The Miz & Alex Riley were on KNBR in San Francisco yesterday morning to promote the Elimination Chamber show. Miz was overall pretty good. They talked about Real World and one of the hosts tried to get on Miz about how there could be a championship in a fake sport with no competition. He also thought Riley was copying Miz, but Riley insisted it was just a coincidence they looked the same. A funny spot was when a host called what he was carrying a belt, and Miz had to explain that it was not a belt. Speaking of which, on Smackdown, Vickie Guerrero did accidentally use the b word, which in WWE, is not bitch.

Jericho’s Relationship With Vince, Tough Enough News

– During his media rounds this week to promote his new Undisputed biography, Chris Jericho spoke to Boston’s 100.7 WXLXon Thursday about his relationship with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon. Here’s what Jericho said about Vince:

“One of the things I like about the book is the thread of the relationship between Vince and Chris. It did not start of good. Over the years, there were ups and downs. Here we are in 2011 and I was just texting Vince this morning. We have laughs about things that have nothing to do with wrestling. We have deep respect for each other, but it took a long time to get to that point.”

– Filming has begun for the upcoming season of WWE Tough Enough, which premieres the night after WrestleMania. The contestants are already living at the Tough Enough house Simi Valley, California. Tough Enough host “Stone Cold” Steve Austin is not living at the house with the contestants.

Filming will take place for roughly seven weeks, until the end of March. Most of the men and women contestants have independent wrestling experience. As WWE confirmed this week, Miss USA 2010 Rima Fakih will be among the contestants.

Chris Jericho Says HBK Is The Best Wrestler Of All Time

In his recent interview with UK Sun’s Rob McNichol, Chris Jericho says Shawn Michaels is the greatest performer to ever grace a wrestling ring — bar none. Chris Jericho said:

“The best way to put it is that Shawn IS the Hall of Fame.”

“There’s nobody that has ever been in the business that deserves to be in the Hall of Fame more than Shawn Michaels. That includes Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, The Rock, Steve Austin or anybody else.”

“Shawn is the epitome of what the Hall of Fame is because to me he is the best performer of all time. He is not even close to anybody else.”

“You can debate it with me until the cows come home — you can say all you want. You can give me all the facts and figures, it’s not going to change my mind.”

“I’m so excited that he is in the Hall of Fame, but it’s essential that he be in there. If he wasn’t it would be a waste of time.”

Jericho’s interview promoting the book release of “Undisputed” was recorded on Wednesday morning and will air in its entirety on Wednesday afternoon at 3:05 p.m. EST on Sirius 125, XM 241.

WrestleMania needing a big angle: “Absolutely, but what’s wrong with that? I mean, last week I listened to your guys’s show and you guys were complaining as critics do that WrestleMania had no jump to it. Vince McMahon is a genius. You can say what you want and whatever you want to say. He will always pull stuff out his ass. You wait and see what he comes up with at WrestleMania. You think “The Rock” is the last thing is going to be the big selling point. No way! I’m sure he’s got two or three other things up his sleeve for this WrestleMania… There’s still five weeks until WrestleMania.”

TNA: “When I worked for WAR in Japan, the company was half the size of new Japan, but for me, WAR was the best company in the world, and if anybody talked badly about my company, I’ll fight you. And if we had any kind of interaction with New Japan, I wasn’t trying to work for New Japan, I didn’t give a s— about working for New Japan, all I cared about was working for WAR, and flying the banner as high as I could… I don’t care if TNA is the worst company in the world, I don’t care. Once you sign a contract for there, you work for Dixie Carter, and you do the best you can to make people believe it’s the best company in the world, and if all you’re doing is b—— about WWE, then go f—— work for WWE, or act like a hasbeen that used to work there. TNA should be the best place in the world to work, and if you don’t believe that, the fans won’t believe it, they’re not gonna buy your product, they’re not gonna believe your product, and they’re not gonna watch your product.”

A WWE return: “Now that’s the thing people ask me ‘When are you coming back to wrestling? When are you going to do this? When are you going to do that?’ I got asked today ‘Are you? – the rumor is you’re the new singer of Velvet Revolver?’ Even if I was the lead singer of Velvet Revolver, even if I was coming out of the Chamber why would I tell you a-holes?”

The Rock Teases WWE Return, Jericho Appearing On “Red Eye”

— Apparently teasing a return to wrestling, former WWE talent Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wrote on his Facebook page this afternoon: “…FINALLY…” Get ready… DJ.”

He enclosed a photo from his time in WWE.

Furthermore, the title of his fan page has been changed from ‘Dwayne Johnson’ to ‘Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’.

— Chris Jericho is scheduled to appear on tonight’s episode of Red Eye, which airs at 3:00 am Eastern/12:00 Midnight Pacific on the Fox News Channel.

— A SmackDown taping is scheduled for April 12 at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York.

JR Blog: His WWE Contract Status, Jericho’s New Book & More

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

His WWE Contract Status: “Emailer asked me if I was able to do other talent work outside WWE or would my contract prevent such? I don’t have a talent contract with WWE but am a proud employee. I am able to do free lance projects outside WWE as long as they are not pro wrestling gigs which honestly don’t interest me at this time. Theoretically, I could do MMA , football, etc with no apparent issues. There is nothing on the ‘horizon’ other than my desire to broadcast Oklahoma Sooner football this fall on radio. There’s no new news on that front and, as I have said before, I feel that I’m in the hunt but a long shot.”

His WM27 Weekend Plans: “I’m considering a few fan convention opportunities in the future. I don’t make many of them and never have due to the lack of available time but I’m going to try and do a few more selected appearances during 2011. I will continue to turn down Saturday appearances during college football season as I would rather go watch OU play than to miss the game to earn a payday elsewhere.

I will be appearing at WM27 Axxess Friday night at the HUGE, THQ function….Saturday morning with The King at a WWE Hall of Fame signing, and Sunday around noon for a Q&A. Plus, we will have our products at the main, WWE merchandise stand throughout Axxess.”

Chris Jericho’s New Book “Undisputed”: “Chris mixes WWE experiences with his band Fozzy’s tales of the road and rock ‘n roll to create a unique balance within ‘Undisputed.’ When I get through with a wrestling chapter I can’t wait to read more but then I read a Fozzy chapter and I become intrigued about the music business and life as a ‘rock star.’ One thing that many casual fans don’t know is that Jericho was one of the more physical guys with legit toughness to step into a WWE ring under my watch which was both a blessing and a curse as you will see when you read ‘Undisputed’ of which I HIGHLY recommend.”
