WWE 2K25 will boast the largest roster in a WWE video game in history with over 300 playable characters as well as managers and other personalities. While the game will indeed be bigger than ever, not everyone competing for the promotion has made it into WWE 2K25.
Just three Superstars from WWE’s main roster will not be included in WWE 2K25 when the game hits shelves next month. The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) will not be playable at launch. The former WWE Tag Team Champions joined the promotion in late 2024 and have been an intrinsic part of the SmackDown tag team roster ever since.
Penta is the third Superstar who won’t be a part of WWE 2K25 at launch. After a messy exit from AEW, the former Trios and Tag Team Champion arrived in WWE during the January 13, 2025, edition of WWE Raw. Since then, the masked star has quickly grown popular with the WWE Universe and was the Iron-Man in the 2025 Men’s Royal Rumble match after lasting over 42 minutes.
H/T to @SmackTalks for uncovering this stat. Stay tuned to SEScoops for more interesting wrestling facts and statistics.
The exclusion of these three Superstar isn’t about their talent, but rather that the three only arrived recently in WWE, well during the creation of WWE 2K25. Many have predicted that Penta and the Guns will be a part of upcoming DLC for the game.
WWE 2K25 is set to release on March 14, with the Deadman and Bloodline Editions of the game set to release one week early for eager gamers. While Penta and the Guns won’t be available at the start, fans shouldn’t be surprised to see the trio added as fully-fledged playable creations down the line.
For years, The Usos established themselves as one of the greatest tag teams in WWE history, with multiple title reigns and records to their name. The pair split in 2023, but now, Jimmy and Jey are finally back together in a huge move that also saw the tag team championships change hands.
In the main event of the October 25, episode of WWE SmackDown, the Motor City Machine Guns faced Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa with the Bloodline’s gold on the line. Roman Reigns and Jimmy Uso brawled with The Bloodline during the match, before a hooded figure showed up and attacked Loa and Tonga. This mystery person revealed himself to be Jey Uso. The Motor City Machine Guns then scored the win.
Jimmy turned on Jey at WWE SummerSlam 2023, prompting Jey to split from his family and depart for Monday Night Raw. The pair later feuded, resulting in Jey besting his brother at WrestleMania 40 in April of this year. This loss would result in Jimmy being ousted from The Bloodline in April, and he’d be out of action until Bad Blood.
Now, The Usos are back on the same page and SmackDown has brand new Tag Team Champions in Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin. Stay tuned to SEScoops for all the developments on this angle now that Jimmy and Jey are back on the same page.
The Motor City Machine Guns have officially arrived in WWE, debuting during the October 18, edition of WWE SmackDown after weeks of vignettes. Now, fans can look forward to seeing Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin in action next week in what will be nothing short of a dream match for fans of tag-team wrestling!
On this week’s SmackDown, MCMG won their debut match against A-Town Down Under and Los Garza, advancing in a tournament to determine the number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championships. The show also saw DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tomasso Ciampa) advance in the tournament with a win over Pretty Deadly and the Street Profits. DIY and the Motor City Machine Guns will face off next week with the winners earning a shot against The Bloodline.
DIY and MCMG are two talented teams who both established loyal fanbases on the independents before arriving in WWE. Now, fans will get to see these four talented wrestlers do what they do best with a shot at the WWE Tag Team Titles on the line.
WWE SmackDown – 10/25/2024
Next week’s SmackDown will be the penultimate episode of the blue brand before WWE Crown Jewel on November 2. Here is the confirmed card as it currently stands.
DIY (Tomasso Ciampa & Johnny Gargano) Vs. Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley (WWE Tag Team Championship No. 1 contenders match)
World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER will come to SmackDown to come face-to-face with Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes ahead of Crown Jewel.
Stay tuned to SEScoops for full coverage of SmackDown including breaking news and live results.
The Motor City Machine Guns seemed revved up for a WWE debut in the near future and the initial thought for the veteran tag team is much different than expected.
The go-home episode of WWE SmackDown for Bad Blood featured a “fast cars” vignette for something forthcoming on the roster and many believe it’s a tease to the Motor City Machine Guns ready to pack a punch on the main roster.
A good deal of speculation had the veteran TNA tag team making their “impact” down in NXT, but this vignette certainly changes that mindset. Additionally, a WWE source for Fightful Select stated that they never heard Shelley and Sabin planned for working in NXT. According to the source, the Detroit duo has been slated to be apart of the SmackDown roster for quite some time.
While many young stars would benefit from getting a gauge from both Shelley and Sabin, it makes a lot more marketing sense to have the two established stars be a foundation for a tag division on SmackDown.
Before heading to WWE, Shelley and Sabin both had some memorable last hurrahs with TNA as Shelley finally became the World Champion for the promotion and Sabin had anothe run with the X-Division Title.
WWE is home to some of the most talented tag-teams in the world, with The Bloodline, the Judgment Day, Nathan Frazer & Axiom, and Jade Cargill & Bianca Belair currently holding gold. Now, the promotion is set to welcome one of the most successful tag teams in history which has held gold in several promotions.
The Motor City Machine Guns have signed with WWE, several sources within the promotion have confirmed to both PW Insider and Fightful Select. The reported plan is for the pair to debut by the October 1, edition of WWE NXT, which will serve as the gold brand’s debut on The CW.
The team of Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley became free agents in April of this year after finishing their time with TNA Wrestling. After their departure, it was speculated that the pair would join AEW, two years after competing at the infamous All Out 2022 event. PWN reports that there were talks between the two sides for a short time, but talks had fallen through.
In July, it was reported that Shelley and Sabin ha been in talks with WWE, and Shelley himself hinted as much on social media. In an Instagram post, Shelley spoke of spending July 4, competing in what’d be his final match for Beyond Wrestling “for a while” fuelling speculation that he’d signed somewhere that wouldn’t let him on the indies (WWE.) Days later, Shelley told fans at a West Coast Pro event that “I might not be coming back here” and called the announcement a “spoiler alert” on his future.
Shelley and Sabin are considered one of, if not the greatest tag-teams in TNA history and the pair have held the company’s tag gold multiple times. Both men are also former X-Division and World Champions with Sabin becoming World Champion in 2013 and Shelley in 2023. Now, fans can expect the pair to bring their skills as a tag team and as individual talents to WWE NXT.
WWE NXT – October 1
Should the Motor City Machine Guns debut on NXT’s debut on The CW, they will be just one part of a stacked show. Here is the current lineup for the much-anticipated event next month.
NXT Championship Match: Ethan Page (c) vs. Trick Williams
NXT Women’s Championship Match: Roxanne Perez vs. Giulia
TNA Wrestling has been experiencing some significant changes to start the year, with bringing in new talent and the letting go of others. The most notable decision came from TNA Wrestling’s owners, Anthem Sports & Entertainment, to terminate Scott D’Amore’s contract on February 7.
Although the company has also seen hot free agents like Nic Nemeth and Alex Hammerstone debut this year, TNA Wrestling is on the verge of losing longtime veterans The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin).
Shelley and Sabin’s deals with TNA Wrestling are expected to end next week. They’ve already taped an episode for their final match for the company, which is slated to air on April 18 on AXS TV. It is unclear if TNA Wrestling will make a final attempt to re-sign them, but The Motor City Machine Guns will likely be free agents soon.
Shelley recently hinted at his future and shared a positive message on Twitter about change. Although he doesn’t address leaving the company directly, the former TNA World Champion seemingly sounded like the end is drawing near.
“While things change, I want to express this – try to leave things better off than when you found them. Everyone is someone, treat them with respect, show up enthused, do your best, and help others whenever possible. I hope this isn’t too “Live, Laugh, Love” wall art cringe,” wrote Shelley.
It isn’t certain if Sabin and Shelley want to sign up with another company, such as WWE or All Elite Wrestling. However, they are already being advertised for an independent wrestling appearance next month.
What’s Next For Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin?
The Motor City Machine Guns will hold a meet-and-greet for Smash Wrestling’s event Riot At The Music Hall on April 21 at the London Music Hall in London, Ontario, Canada. The promotion shared that fans who bought a VIP Perk to the show will be able to take in-ring photos with them and potentially ask questions.
Neither Shelley nor Sabin have advertised other appearances at this time. However, they could be competing on the independent scene for a while. Shelley holds titles for independent wrestling promotions, including the Prestige Championship. They’ve also competed for Deadlock Pro Wrestling over the past few months and were the tag team champions until they lost to Jake Something & Mike Bailey on March 10.
The team will have many options if they decide to leave TNA Wrestling. While anything can change to make them re-sign, Shelley’s comments seem to point towards looking at a fresh start after creating great moments over the years with the company.
TNA Wrestling may have its old brand name back, but two originals from the first era of those letters seem to be moving on.
Reports have been made that Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin’s contracts with the company were both set to expire this month and according to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful, The Motor City Machine Guns were apparently saying some goodbyes to current TNA colleagues backstage during the TV tapings this weekend in Philadelphia.
“There were some farewells said backstage at the TNA tapings tonight for Sabin and Shelley. Anything can happen but as of now they’re free agents in about a week.”

Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin Were Top Stars In Recent TNA Run
Shelley and Sabin both had extremely memorable runs with Impact and TNA this go-around. Shelley had a more than formidable inaugural reign as the World Champion and was such heading into TNA’s first PPV back, Hard To Kill, where he finally dropped the gold to Moose.
Sabin, a former World Champion with the promotion as well, was the X-Division Champion before he lost to Mustafa Ali just recently at TNA Sacrifice, which also served as Ali’s debut with the promotion.
Obviously, Sabin and Shelley are best known for their work as a top tag team, not just in TNA, but all of wrestling. What the future holds for both is currently unknown, but Sabin and Shelley have appeared at AEW All Out 2022 and Shelley even had a cup of coffee in NXT with KUSHIDA, serving as his tag team partner in the 2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
TNA may be making a significant change on how they ink deals with most talent. According to a new report from Fightful Select, TNA may me leaning more towards offering wrestlers per-date deals rather than full-time contracts.
The impression has been that the offers have been quite different than what talent typically expected of a TNA deal. There is currently no confirmation whether this is a widespread movement for the company, but it would be a notable difference for TNA. The company notoriously parted ways with long-time TNA President Scott D’Amore earlier this year which caused the roster to write a petition on behalf of their former boss.
Update On The Contracts Of The Motor City Machine Guns
Could the Motor City Machine Guns be moving on from TNA already? According to recent reports, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin may have that option.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider intially got word that Shelley and Sabin’s contract could be up soon and Fightful followed up with their sources who believed that it could be in the within month of March. However, Sabin nor Shelley confirmed such news directly. The legendary TNA tag team actually signed with the company back on March 23, 2023.
It’s been a beneficial run for both Sabin in Shelley while Impact transitioned back to TNA as both became stalwart singles champions with the promotion. Sabin secured the X-Division Title during his tenure while Shelley had a very strong run as TNA World Champion before he dropped it to Moose at TNA’s first official PPV back at Hard To Kill.
The pro wrestling world is always changing, and it appears that two veteran performers may be entering the free agency pool soon. The Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley do not seem to be attending TNA’s next television tapings.
TNA Wrestling faces potential losses as company changes and discontent among talent is seemingly leading to impending departures. Now, the Motor City Machine Guns seem to be leaving.
Talent May be Leaving TNA
It appears that TNA Wrestling is facing the looming departures of two of its key stars. Impact Wrestling’s revival of the TNA brand at the Hard to Kill pay-per-view event in January marked a significant milestone for the promotion. Some would argue that the firing of Scott D’Amore was an even bigger event.
After the subsequent removal of Scott D’Amore as TNA President and the appointment of Anthony Cicione, this sparked discontent among talent. With the upcoming Rebellion PPV event scheduled for April 20 at the Palms Casino Resort, uncertainty is certainly present over the company’s future direction with these big internal changes.
PW Insider reported indicating that The Motor City Machine Guns, Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, are slated to appear for Smash Wrestling in London, Ontario, on April 21, coinciding with TNA’s post-PPV TV tapings. This is interesting timing that they will missing those tapings. After all, TNA tapes weeks worth of content in one or two nights.
Their existing deals are rumored to expire soon, possibly by the end of March. Now that they will not be around for the tapings, some are under the opinion that the TNA mainstays may be out.
Sabin & Shelley
Having formed their tag team in 2007, Shelley and Sabin have achieved success across various companies as veteran performers. Those stints included ROH and NJPW.
Their tenure in TNA saw them capture the World and X-Division Titles, solidifying their status as three-time Tag Team Champions. Now, we will have to see if they take their talents elsewhere at this point.
SEScoops will have more on this story, and so much more from all over the pro wrestling world. You never know what will happen next, especially with so many talented performers making headlines.
Free agent Mustafa Ali’s year is off to an incredible start after leaving WWE in 2023. He recently became the TNA X-Division Champion by defeating Chris Sabin at TNA No Surrender on February 23. The new title holder has revealed on Twitter that he’ll have his official inauguration to start his reign on this week’s episode of TNA Impact.
“…Citizens of
@ThisIsTNA! It’s happening! With great pride, I invite you all to attend the X-Division Title Inauguration Ceremony, this Thursday 8/7c on AXIS TV,” wrote Ali.
It’s unclear what exactly Ali has planned for his reign, but he wants it to feel important. The free agent has made himself into a superstar on the independent wrestling scene and has fans looking to see what he does next. He also has fans questioning WWE’s decision to release him.
The company let go of Ali last September, as well as other superstars. Although some former WWE talent are still trying to find their way outside the company, Ali thrives on the independent wrestling scene.
Ali has started the year competing for different promotions in his quest to prove he’s one of the best in the world. He has competed and earned wins for popular independent organizations like Game Changer Wrestling, Prestige Wrestling, and Revolution Pro Wrestling. However, his big win to date happened for TNA, defeating Sabin to become the TNA X-Division Champion.
As of now, it is unclear if Sabin will get a rematch for the title. However, he seems to continue in TNA as a ‘heel.’
What’s Next For Mustafa Ali (Spoiler)
TNA had tapings for the next few episodes of TNA Impact last weekend. PWInsider’s Billy Krotchsen shared the results from the taping and Ali’s first opponent as champion.
It was revealed that Ali would be aligned with The Good Hands (Jason Hotch & John Skyler) for his inauguration as X-Division Champion. He also won a match during the tapings against Kevin Knight. Interestingly, it’s reported that Ali and The Good Hands got into an altercation against Alex Shelley, KUSHIDA, and Sabin after the match.
It seems the issues between Ali and Sabin aren’t over. However, TNA may also have a Six-Man Tag Team match between the two groups.
The free agent’s announcement and spoilers for the upcoming TNA Impact episode are significant for Ali fans, as TNA seemingly has exciting plans for him and his reign.
TNA Wrestling is currently undergoing significant transformations with its rebranding from Impact Wrestling. Fans are excited for nostalgia, as Scott D’Amore and other Impact officials hope that this re-branding does the trick to re-spark interest.
New X-Division Title Revealed
As part of this overhaul, new title belts are being introduced, and the first glimpse of the redesigned X-Division Title has been revealed.
It was disclosed that TNA Wrestling had laid out plans to unveil a fresh set of title belts, indicating that every champion on the roster would receive updated hardware. They will have those new title belts rolled out soon enough.
The debut of the revamped X-Division Championship belt coincided with the buildup to Chris Sabin’s defense against KUSHIDA and El Hijo del Vikingo at TNA Hard To Kill 2024.
In an official presentation, Scott D’Amore handed over the new X-Division Title to Chris Sabin. He was obviously honored to receive this new title, especially since Sabin has made no secret about how much he loves the old TNA Wrestling titles.
Details About New X-Division Title
The updated design prominently features the recognizable red X at its core and incorporates the revamped TNA Wrestling logo. Chris Sabin, recognized as the X-Division’s most accomplished champion, is currently in the midst of his 10th reign with the title.
As TNA Wrestling enters this new chapter in its history, Sabin proudly holds the X-Division Title. Now, he will defend it proudly.
New meets the old when the TNA brand returns in 2024, starting with the Hard To Kill PPV as a new championship match is announced that opened up the “forbidden door.”
Back at Slammiversary, IMPACT Wrestling revealed that the promotion would be going back to its roots, by rebranding itself as TNA once more and the motion to do so feels fitting as two of the company’s legacy stars both currently hold championships. Funny enough, they so happen to one of their greatest tag teams too.
Alex Shelley currently is the IMPACT World Champion while his Motor City Machine Guns brother Chris Sabin is the current X-Division Champion. Now the latter has a new match on tap for Hard To Kill.
IMPACT took to social media to announce that Sabin will be defending his goal against another Shelley tag team partner in KUSHIDA, but also in the match is El Hijo Del Vikingo.
It was just this week that KUSHIDA was announced to be officially signed with the company after making several appearances with the promotion. Vikingo has been keeping busy in several wrestling companies. This weekend he’s on tap to defend his AAA Mega Championship against another once notable name in IMPACT, Black Taurus, but it’s not with AAA Lucha Libre. The match will take place at ROH Final Battle.
The Sabin fight is only the third match currently announced on the card as Shelley will have his hands full defending his World Title against former champion, Moose. In addition to that, Trinity is set to defend her Knockout’s Championship against another former champion in Jordynne Grace.
The Jan. 26 episode of Impact Wrestling aired on AXS TV at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT.
This episode featured a main event between Sami Callihan, Eddie Edwards, Rich Swann, Rhino, Moose, and Chris Sabin in a Golden Six Shooter match. It is a six way elimination match. The winner of the match will challenge Josh Alexander for the Impact World Championship at No Surrender on Feb. 24. This week’s episode also aired on their Youtube channel for Impact Insider subscribers. Impact Wrestling offers a monthly subscription to watch weekly episodes on Youtube for $1.49.

Impact Wrestling talent Chris Sabin is looking forward to challenging Jonathan Grisham for the ROH World Championship. The anticipated match will take place at Hard to Kill on January 8th.
The Sportster’s Denise Salcedo interviewed Sabin ahead of his match with Grisham. He shared that he didn’t know that Impact Wrestling booked the match until they announced it online. Salcedo mentioned that Sabin would join the likes of Samoa Joe, Austin Aries, and Eddie Edwards to win the ROH Championship and the Impact(Formerly TNA) World Heavyweight Championship. When asked what winning the ROH World Championship could mean for Sabin, he discussed how it adds to his career.
“…That’s something that you could always go back to and reference as some sort of history in wrestling that you made,” said Sabin. He continued, “…It’s not easy to really to do something new and solidify your name and on such a historic level like that by winning two world championships and two different companies like that. But yeah, it would mean a lot, and it would just, you know, add to my credentials of my career, and it was something I would be proud of.”
Chris Sabin Thoughts on Jonathan Gresham
In the interview, Sabin had positive things to say about his opponent. He praised Gresham’s work ethic and his style. Sabin also credited his opponent for being influential to other wrestlers.
“…I respect John a lot. I mean, he works really hard to be a unique talent just to be something different,” said Sabin. He explains, “Obviously, he works hard in the gym, he works hard when he’s training in the ring outside of wrestling, and you can just tell by his body of work. He’s just an amazing talent.”
Sabin vs. Gresham for the ROH World Championship will be the first time an ROH champion will defend the title under Impact Wrestling. While it’s unclear who will win, Gresham is scheduled to defend the title at Terminus and The WRLD on GCW later this month. Regardless, Sabin will have the opportunity to make history when he challenges Gresham this Saturday.
It was a rather unique episode of Impact Wrestling this week. Following a big Turning Point event, we were transported back to Wrestle House for some shenanigans. The premise of the show was that John E. Bravo sold his soul to Rosemary (who wants his virgin blood) in exchange for making Johnny Swinger happy again. A bunch of characters were then sent to Wrestle House and were cursed with remaining there until Swinger is happy and thankful again.
Impact Results 11/25:
Chris Sabin defeated Kaleb With A K
Downtown Daddy Brown (Willie Mack) defeated Johnny Swinger
Rosemary, Crazzy Steve, Havok, Taurus & Chris Sabin defeated Eddie Edwards, Alisha Edwards, Kaleb, and Madison Rayne
As Kaleb with a K was attempting to hit on one of the Swingerellas, Chris Sabin comes out of the shower wearing only a towel, which draws the attention of many in the house. Kaleb evidently grows jealous of Sabin’s shirtless physique and challenges him to a match. After a quick match, Sabin hits a Cradle Shock in slow motion for the win.
Madison Rayne and Alisha Edwards came up with a plan to cheer up Johnny Swinger. Since Swinger is perpetually stuck in the territory days, they decided to bring back a wrestler from that era. A few years ago, Impact did a throwback show where they pretended to be an old school wrestling territory. On that show, Willie Mack performed as Downtown Daddy Brown. The housemates decided to ask Rosemary to teleport Daddy Brown to the house. When he arrived, however, it turned out him and Swinger had longstanding heat and a match between the two was scheduled.
After a ref bump, Swinger hit Brown with his own cane but Brown got the shoulder up at 2. Brown came back with a big head butt followed by an elbow drop (which injured his hip) and got the pin.
Alisha Edwards, Kaleb with a K, and Madison Rayne Given A Chance to Win Their Way Out of the House
Alisha, Rayne, and Kaleb really want to leave the house but the others wouldn’t go until they had broken the curse and made Swinger happy and thankful again. A match was scheduled and if the heels won, they would be teleported out of the house. Alisha requested that her husband Eddie Edwards join her team and he was teleported to the house as well. Rosemary ended up spearing Alisha and getting the pin. It looks like everyone will be staying put in the house.
The Demon was brought in to help cheer up Swinger. He was told it was Gene Simmons from KISS, however. Swinger told him there was a guy going around trying to impersonate him called the Demon. Demon responded that he heard the Demon was a good guy. The advice Demon gave to Swinger was to find the right woman in order to be happy. Since Swinger thought it was Gene Simmons giving him the advice, it meant a lot to him.
Johnny Swinger Fights For The Honor Of Swingerella #1
After receiving advice from who be believed was Gene Simmons, Swinger then went to make a commitment to one of the Swingerellas. Lawrence D confronted him, however. This led to a match between the two. Lawrence tried to gain the advantage by spraying his “Ring Rust” cologne in the eyes of Swinger but John E Bravo smelled it and refused to count the pin after. Swinger then threw powder in his opponent’s eyes and hit a swinging neckbreaker for the win. Swinger then proposed to Swingerella #1 and she accepted. Rosemary then announced the curse wouldn’t be broken until the two go to the altar.
Hernandez Finds Out Rosemary Is Going To Steal John E Bravo’s Soul
Hernandez overhears a conversation between John E Bravo and Rosemary about Rosemary taking John E Bravo’s soul in exchange for Swinger’s happiness. This leads to a match between Hernandez and Taurus. Hernandez was forced to wear dress clothes for the match and after his pants tore at the seat, Taurus rolled him up for the 3-count. Rosemary then cast a spell on Hernandez to make him think he’s part of LAX again.
A rather bizarre wedding took place to close out this episode. Rosemary’s plan to steal John E Bravo’s soul was uncovered but Bravo then revealed he no longer has virgin blood because he slept with Swingerella #1. This led to Swinger leaving the wedding and looking relieved for having done so. Bravo then proposed to Swingerella #1 and she accepted. The two were then married. Finally, the castmates enjoy a dinner before the show goes off the air.
The Impact Victory Road card for Sept. 18 just got another title match.
On the Sept. 2 edition of Impact Wrestling, Josh Alexander put his X-Division Title on the line in an open challenge. Jake Crist ended up accepting the challenge. Alexander defeated Crist to retain his gold.
After the match, Alexander said he feels he has to be in the conversation for the greatest X-Division Champion of all time.
"I have to be in the conversation for greatest X-Division of all-time."
Sabin showed his respect for Alexander. He went as far as to say Alexander is one of the best wrestlers he’s ever seen in the ring. With that said, Sabin let Alexander know that must beat him to be in that conversation as the greatest X-Division Champion of all time. Sabin laid down the challenge for Victory Road.
Alexander shook Sabin’s hand, signaling an acceptance of the challenge. Now, Impact has made the match official.
IMPACT Wrestling Tag Team Champion and former TNA Champion Chris Sabin recently appeared on the Chris Van Vliet show.
Chris Sabin is one of the names synonymous with TNA’s X Division, with the former X Division Champion having appeared in the most amount of ‘Ultimate X’ matches in company history. Ultimate X would become the crown jewel of the division, with Sabin having appeared in 17 matches and winning 8.
Chris Sabin on Ultimate X
“I don’t think you can” Chris Sabin would reply, when asked how he would prepare for the Ultimate X match. “I remember the first Ultimate X match we did? They [the company] weren’t even prepared.” The first Ultimate X match took place on August 20, 2003 and saw Sabin face Michael Shane (Matt Bentley) and Frankie Kazarian.
“They put these posts…like they hadn’t had the structure set up yet” Sabin would continue. “So we went there the day before just to like see the structure, climb up on it. Make sure see how sturdy it is, just to get a feel for it. And I remember when they had recently put these posts in the corner posts, like just these long poles and they had two cables going across.”
Chris Sabin would elaborate further, saying “I remember Frankie [Kazarian] climbed up and grabbed down in the middle and tried to hang on it. And then those posts? They just kind of bent in, like, ‘oh no what are we going to do!?’ So they were scrambling to figure out a way to build a structure because they had this match advertised!”
“And then, what they finally ended up doing was using like the light trusses. They used straps to strap it to the ring posts and that ended up being strong enough” Sabin continued.
“So we didn’t even have any experience with it, we didn’t even get to climb on the structure at all, get a feel for it at all. Basically when the match happened? That was the first time we were climbing on that thing so we were just kind of hoping that this thing stays together!”
The Motor City Machine Guns have captured the Impact Wrestling World Tag Team Championships.
Tuesday’s Impact Wrestling episode on AXS TV saw Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin defeat The North’s Josh Alexander and Ethan Page to take home the gold. The finish to the match featured Sabin countering The Northern Assault to roll Page up for the win.
Sabin and Shelley are now two-time tag team champions for the promotion. Their first championship reign came in 2010 when Impact Wrestling was still known as TNA. The North’s championship reign lasted 383 days, making them the longest-reigning tag team champions in promotion history.
Page and Alexander won the titles back in July 2019 by defeating LAX during Impact’s The Bash At The Brewery event, which was co-promoted with River City Wrestling.
The MCMG just returned to Impact at Saturday’s Slammiversary pay-per-view, defeating The Rascalz after answering their open challenge. Sabin and Shelley later challenged The North during a segment on the pay-per-view, and the match was made for tonight’s post-Slammiversary episode.

Shelley took to Twitter after the match and gave praise to The North.
“I can honestly say that The North are one of the best teams I have been in with. And I have been in with all of the best teams in the past 15 years,” he wrote.
Shelley made a follow-up tweet and mentioned FTR, writing, “Edit: All the best teams except FTR, those dudes rule real hard.”
I can honestly say that The North are one of the best teams I have been in with. And I have been in with all of the best teams in the past 15 years.
WWE has confirmed that former Impact and Ring of Honor (ROH) wrestler Chris Sabin is currently guest coaching at their Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.
We recently reported on Sabin teasing he was at the WWE PC after he uploaded a series of tweets to his social media. One post included a heavily cropped image of the Performance Center logo.
Now, the WWE PC Twitter account has uploaded a video with Sabin. The clip introduces who he is to the WWE Universe for those who might be unfamiliar.
“My name is Joshua Edward Harter, also known as Chris Sabin. I’ve been a professional wrestler for 19 years,” he said.
He touched on his history as a wrestling fan, remembering the specific event that helped him find his passion for pro wrestling: Royal Rumble ’93.
“I’ve been a big fan of wrestling for most of my life. The first VHS tape that I ever owned was the 1993 Royal Rumble. It was the first pay-per-view my parents ever let me order, and I recorded it, and I watched it over and over and over. Wrestling, more specifically WWE, just kind of took over my life from there.””
“You know, I love wrestling, ‘I’m very passionate about it, and I hope I can bring some of that passion here to the Performance Center and help some people out and just be a positive force here.”
Pro Wrestling Sheet confirms Chris Sabin is at the WWE PC offering his services as a guest coach to the current crop of WWE rookies.
Sabin, unfortunately, suffered a torn ACL injury back in January, sidelining him from the push he was receiving in ROH. It was projected he would be out of action for approximately 8-12 months. He departed the promotion in March 2019.
Last year, he participated in New Japan Pro Wrestlings Best of Super Juniors tournament. He finished the BoSJ with three wins and four losses. In October 2018, he teamed with current NXT Superstar Kushida for the Super Junior Tag League. Their team didn’t fare much better, once again earning three wins and four losses.
The former Motor City Machine Gun member isn’t the only guest coach the Performance Center has hosted. Others include Danny Cage from the Monster Factory, Pat Buck from Creat a Pro Wrestling, and Mike Mondo from the Spirit Squad.
This past weekend saw two Ring Of Honor wrestlers suffer unfortunate injuries. Both Flip Gordon and Chris Sabin would sadly find themselves injured by the end of the weekend.
The company has since released an official statement regarding the extent of their injuries. ROH also divulge the moment each injury supposedly occurred.
Ring Of Honor Statement
“Chris Sabin and Flip Gordon will both be getting MRI’s this week after suffering knee injuries at ROH live events over the weekend.
It is believed that Sabin suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during a six-man mayhem match at the international television taping in Atlanta Saturday night. Sabin began clutching his knee after executing a super hurricanrana on Gordon. He was unable to finish the match and was helped to the back.
Gordon injured his right knee during his match against Tracy Williams at Honor Reigns Supreme in Concord, N.C., on Sunday. It is believed he will be out of action a minimum of four weeks with a possible MCL sprain. Gordon came up limping after hitting a running dropkick in the corner. He tried to continue, but his knee gave out and the referee stopped the match. Gordon was helped to the back.
Keep it locked onto ROHWrestling.com for more updates on Sabin and Gordon as they become available.”
“I’ll Be Back”
Gordon reached out to Sabin via Twitter, sending him “Positive Vibes,” to which Sabin responded, “I’ll be back.”
Chris Sabin has a goal in mind heading into the ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada that takes place this Friday (September 28th) as he is slated to challenge Punishment Martinez for the Ring of Honor TV Championship.
The former TNA World Champion spoke with Chris Featherstone of SportsDaily.com to discuss his opportunity at winning some ROH gold. He stated that if he wins the title then he can say that he’s at least the second best wrestler in Ring of Honor as the World Champion is obviously number one, but he can confidently say that he’s second best.
He hopes to win the title and if so then he is hopeful that it comes with some control over television, at least some influence. “You know, I’d bring back shows like The Office, make sure Michael Scott is in it, and you know, maybe have one more Saved by the Bell reunion or something. Who knows? Hopefully, I attain those powers.”
The Future Of The Motor City Machine Guns
Sabin stated that just for the foreseeable future, the tag team that he created with Alex Shelley is pretty much done. He made it clear that they are still friends outside of pro wrestling and thinks he’s going to be on his own and has been for quite a while now. He added, “I don’t see the Motor City Machine Guns reunited anytime soon.”
Ring of Honor has announced a new match for their upcoming Final Battle PPV (pay-per-view) event. ROH World Tag Team Champions Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin) will defend their titles against Best Friends (Berretta and Chuckie T).

Highlights from last week are shown when Donovan Dijak made his surprise return to confront Jay Lethal and the House of Truth. Lethal cuts a backstage promo, “Tempers are high and emotions are out of control, and I’m going to try to keep it together, because my best friend is in the hospital right now. Donovan Dijak congratulations, I don’t know what your goal was, but.you were successful in getting my attention. The World Heavyweight Champion is speaking to you. Was this your sad, pathetic attempt to get a shot? Well, it didn’t work, because you don’t deserve it. Last year, when you won the top prospect tournament, it was Truth’s idea to bring you in, shape you, groom you. We tried his way, now we’re going to try mine. You don’t deserve to be here in Ring of Honor, you don’t deserve the friendship that was shown to you by the House of Truth. Be sure to tell Prince Nana that Jay Lethal is coming and, I’ll tell you what, you ain’t going to survive this one.”
