Edge & Christian On Next “Stone Cold Podcast,” SummerSlam Main Event Controversy

– Although a date was not announced, it was revealed during the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view on Sunday night that the next edition of WWE Hall Of Famer Steve Austin’s “Stone Cold Podcast” will feature Edge and Christian as the special guests.

– There was controversy during the main event at SummerSlam on Sunday night, as The Undertaker actually tapped out to a Kimura from Brock Lesnar near the end of the match. This is why the time keeper called for the bell and the bell was rung prematurely. Replays after the match showed that Undertaker did in fact tap out, however because the referee didn’t call it, Undertaker’s submission victory over Lesnar stands.

For those wondering, it was not an error when WWE Hall Of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler referred to Christian as retired on Monday’s edition of RAW.

While Christian never got the chance to cut a “retirement promo” like Edge did, it has been reported for a while now that Christian’s in-ring career is likely over, and Lawler’s comments were pretty much confirmation of that.

Christian had to call it a career due to suffering a number of injuries, and more specifically — concussions — forcing him to end his active in-ring career. He has approximately a year left on his WWE contract.

  • Christian On Working With Edge Recently, Possibly Working On WWE Creative Team

The following are highlights of a new Miami Herald interview with Christian:

Working with Edge on the show Haven: “It was fun [working together again]. We hadn’t seen each other for a while with him being up in Nova Scotia for the better part of four years filming there and me working for WWE. He just had a daughter. I just had a daughter. Between children and both of us having different schedules, I think we had probably seen each other once in about a year. We just happened to be in the same city at the same time and had dinner for two or three hours, and that was all we had seen each other in about a year. So it was cool to get to go up to [Nova Scotia to film ‘Haven’] and spend some time with him and hang out and catch up and also act with him. It was a great experience.”

Their characters on the show: “With Edge and Christian, we were like Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, the Bill & Ted of WWE. We were kind of goofy, kind of funny, humorous, but then when we had to be serious in the ring, we would get serious. With his character, Dwight, on ‘Haven,’ and my character, McHugh, it’s more of a serious tone, serious guys, trained professionals at what they do. So that dynamic was a little bit different, but we still have that chemistry like what we had in WWE. Knowing where each other was in the ring kind of carries over onto the ‘Haven’ screen as well.”

Working WWE vs. Haven: “With WWE, you’re live every single week. You’re in an arena, and there can be anywhere from 12,000 to 20,000 people watching you perform. The performances might have to be a little bigger, when you portray your character may have to be a little bigger, because not only are you performing for the person in the front row, but you’re also performing for the person in the very back row. They have to kind of see everything, too. So it’s more like stage acting, like theater. When you’re on the ‘Haven’ set, you’re kind of bringing it down, making it a little bit smaller, not having to project as much, and figuring out that happy medium. WWE is live. There is no second take. Me, personally, I thrive under pressure. I feel like that I do better when the stakes are bigger like that; so I always put a lot of pressure on myself when I go out there to perform. Within three hours [of Raw] there are a lot of moving parts. There are times where things change because of the reaction of the live audience, and sometimes you have to ad-lib a little bit and do different things. It doesn’t leave any room for error. With ‘Haven,’ it’s a smaller set, and you’re kind of bringing everything down a little bit and you’re trying to tap a little more into your emotions, where you’re just kind of talking and trying to convey your character a little bit more using a little smaller scale — not as over the top like in WWE.”

Has he thought about working WWE creative? “No. I’ve always liked being on the performance end of it. I’ve come up with different ideas, but as far as being a creative writer, I’m not sure about that. I’ve always liked the performance end of it and wrestling, getting in the ring in front of a live crowd.”

  • Edge Interview: Why He Doesn’t Watch WWE Network, Christian Retiring & More

WWE Hall of Famer Edge recently spoke to AlternativeNation.net about a number of topics, including the Attitude Era, a John Cena heel turn, the WWE Network not working for him and much more. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The WWE Network and Sami Zayn: “They finally gave me the WWE Network. Once they asked me to do a show on it, they said, ‘Do you want it by the way?’ I said, ‘Yeah sure, why not?’ But for whatever reason, it doesn’t seem to want to work up here in Canada. Every time I try to watch something it just freezes, so I haven’t really watched a whole lot of stuff. Before it was on the Network, it was on Sports Central up here, and if I was home from set, I would try to watch it Thursday nights. Then it got taken off Sports Central, I got the Network, and the Network didn’t work, so it’s kind of been out of my hands, I haven’t been able to watch it. But I know Sami Zayn, I’ve known him for a couple of years now, but I’ve always enjoyed what he’s done, when he was El Generico too.”

Christian Possibly Retiring: “Well he’s my best friend, so I know what’s going on with him more than anybody else. But he’s at that kind of point where you sit back and look and go, okay I’m definitely closer to the end of my career than the beginning. After awhile your body just starts telling you, this is a difficult job to do. When you’re in your 20’s and you think you’re indestructible, you can bounce back, but it gets harder when you start climbing into your 40’s.”

The Attitude Era: “I do think what’s been good, people are always talking about the Attitude Era, and all of this and all of that, but if you watch back, sometimes the matches weren’t that great because we had 2 minutes. It’s not possible to have a good wrestling match in 2 minutes, you can’t tell a story, you can tell a haiku. Since the PG era, I know when I was in matches, I had half an hour sometimes, 20 minutes, there I can tell a story. To me that’s the meat and potatoes of the whole thing, it all boils down to the wrestling at the end of the day. The Attitude Era was a lot about the hijinks backstage, and the matches kind of got forgotten about. It’s looked at with rose colored glasses because the ratings were good, and it was working for obvious reasons, but to me those obvious reasons were characters like Stone Cold, who would then get in and have a long match at a PPV. Characters like The Rock who would be entertaining, but still at the end of the day, they could go. I think now, you need a little bit of both.

Why He Doesn’t Watch The WWE Network: “I haven’t watched a whole lot. They finally gave me the WWE Network. Then it got taken off Sports Central, I got the Network, and the Network didn’t work, so it’s kind of been out of my hands, I haven’t been able to watch it.”

  • Edge Talks Fatherhood, If He Misses WWE, Christian, Haven & More

The following are highlights of a new “The Rack” interview with WWE Hall Of Famer Adam “Edge” Copeland.

Has his time in WWE helped him with is acting: “I mean, it definitely does; you’re in front of a camera, no matter what. So, that is always the same, and there’s nothing that gets you used to being in front of a camera except being in front of a camera, so I was in front of a camera my entire adult life. SO, that part of it really helped me coming in; I wasn’t coming in with zero experience or acting in front of a camera for the first time, because there’s always an element of acting with the WWE. So, that definitely lent itself. The one thing I had to learn to do was pull back on my over-the-top mannerisms that you had to do in order to translate for someone that is an entire town’s population away from your performance, in the back of a stadium. If you’re performing for 80,000 people, you have to make it big, or they aren’t going to see it. So, that was a big difference I had to get used to, was pulling back and making things much more subtle.

But, in some respect, it’s great to have a live microphone and no net, because once you do it, it’s out there and you’ve made your choices and your choices are happening as you’re seeing them and that’s amazing, but I have to admit it’s kind of nice to realize you can do different things on a different take and you have a script and you can actually think about some of these things after you do it once and go ‘Ah, I think I want to try this’ or talk to the director and say ‘What direction did you see it?’ and it can be much more of a community process as opposed to just going out there and you’re standing in the middle of the ring. By yourself, with a live microphone and you have 10 minutes to fill.”

What it’s like being a new father: “You know, it’s amazing. It’s all of the clichés that people talk about and movies show, it’s all of those things; you have much less sleep and you’ll have poop on your hands and all of that stuff. But, it’s awesome. What has really been a change this year was having a baby and then maintaining these hours; that’s been a challenge, but it’s been good. I mean, if I look a bit more tired this season on Haven, that’s the reason.”

What can we expect from Dwight on the upcoming Season 5 of Haven: “A lot happens. It’s pretty crazy how the landscape of the town completely changes from the first episode to the episode that kind of breaks up Season 5 or Seasons 5A, I don’t know how they’re going to air it; but the entire town, the landscape of it changes from the first episode to the 13th and we’re currently about to start filming the 17th episode. So, it’s really crazy when I start to think back, especially when Dwight first came onto the show, how much has changed, not only to the town but to him as a character. It’s been a fun ride.”

How has Dwight evolved from his first appearance to Season 5 on Haven: “Well, initially, I don’t think anyone had the idea that the character would really be around that long. It was just, kind of, one of those cross-over, WWE Smackdown airs right before Haven; I was just hired because I fit all of those categories and then I think both parties. Haven and myself, realized ‘Wow, we might have a little something here; who knows?’ They were amazing letting me grow as an actor and into this character and help me get comfortable with this whole process, because I hadn’t really done much acting before this. So, they were very kind to me.

This year, I had a lot more heavy lifting placed on me and I was ready for itl I feel like I was ready for it. If that had happened the first season, I would not have been. So, it was very nice of them and kind of them to let me mature in this aspect of entertainment, compared to what I was used been doing.”

What was it like going from special guest to a regular on the show: “Every time, I kind of get surprised; it became from cleaner to Chief of Police but it’s been a nice growth. It didn’t happen overnight and let me get comfortable with the process and even comfortable with the crew, cast and even getting that rapport, that’s really important and helps your performance. So, I think they were really kind in just letting me figure my way and cutting my teeth a little bit and hopefully not screw it up too bad. And then, once I started to feel more confident and comfortable, they gave me more responsibility and that was nice.”

Does he miss performing in front of a live crowd: “That was the fun part of it, was getting in front of the audience but every other aspect, no. I don’t miss the travel, I don’t miss the amount of pain I was in, I don’t miss being on the road 250 days-a-year, I don’t miss planes everyday, I don’t miss rental cars every night, a different hotel every night at 3 am after eating at Dennys at 1 am. I don’t miss any of that.

Don’t get me wrong, it was a great gig and like I said, the amazing aspect was the performance part, but that was half an hour of a 24-hour day because that job starts as soon as you wake up in the morning and doesn’t stop until you go to bed. And then, you’re probably only getting 4 hours sleep, so it’s an interesting way to make a living.”

What is his favorite Edge and Christian moment: “Oh man, we have so many; to the point of we’ll forget some times and someone will mention something and its like ‘Wow, oh yeah’. There was luck involved but a lot of hard work involved too; finding ourselves in moments where we always pictured ourselves but never fully know if it’s going to happen, But I think for the most memorable, it’s the first time we won the Tag Team Titles and sitting on top of the table, across two ladders at WrestleMania, doing what we said we were going to do when we were wrestling in his parent’s side yard jumping off a washing machine onto a mattress, you know? So, I think that would be the biggest one, but then we also found ourselves like I’m teaming with Hulk Hogan and he’s teaming with Lance Storm; Hulk Hogan is doing the ‘Hulk up’ on him and I just tagged Hulk Hogan into the ‘Hulk up’ and was like ‘How did we get here?!’.

It’s real crazy when we’ve sat down and people have said, ‘What’s the story with you guys?’ We’re like, well, here it is: we met in the sixth grade because of a ninja star, we went to high school together, we lived together in college, started wrestling together, went wherever we could and wrestled in barns and ate cans of tuna we opened with a key, 40-hour bus rides, made it to the WWE and won the Tag Team Titles more than anyone else in history and both became World Champions, AND fathers within six weeks of each other to little girls. I mean, it’s crazy!”

How he and Christian found out about the other’s pregnancies: “I was doing some promotional stuff for SyFy actually, and I was in New York for an up-front presentation and I was in my hotel room and we (him and Beth) had found out we were pregnant and I was like ‘Ok, I HAVE to tell someone’, it’s technically too early to tell someone but I need to be able to, if anything does goes wrong, I have someone to talk to about that and I thought Jay (Christian) is going to be the guy I’m going to talk to. So I called him and I was standing in the bathtub of my hotel room because it had an amazing view, but only from the bathtub. So, I standing there staring at the Empire State building, going ‘Wow, that’s beautiful’ and he picks up the phone, and I said ‘So, guess what’ and he goes ‘what?’. I said we’re pregnant, and then there’s just silence and I was like ‘Ohhh. Gosh, alright.’ And then he goes, ‘Well, guess what.’ ‘Oh come on!’ and sure enough they were pregnant too. And both had little girls, and it was nuts.”
