Christopher Daniels On What He Loves About TNA, Mickie James Interview

– During a recent interview with EveryJoe.com, Christopher Daniels revealed what he loves most about working for TNA:

“I’d have to say the locker room is what I love most about TNA and Impact Wrestling. These people are my family and best friends in the world, and I’m proud to work with them every week.”

Christopher Daniels Talks About CM Punk’s Success, Why He Never Joined WWE & More

TNA star Christopher Daniels recently spoke to TheWhig.com. Here are some highlights of what Daniels said about:

TNA President Dixie Carter: “You know, she’s given a lot of people opportunities that they may not have had, if it wasn’t for TNA,” he said. “And the fact that she came around, and helped TNA last, it’s a big deal for a lot of us. Those of us who have never had that opportunity with WWE, we’re on a nationally televised wrestling promotion, and we’re living our dream.”

Why He Never Caught on with WWE: “I think that they never really saw anything that they could really sink their teeth into,” he said. “Which is OK, because you know, the truth of the matter is I was never really their type of wrestler. Or when I was, or now that I am … I don’t know … I’ve already got ties to TNA, or Ring of Honor, or wherever I was, at the time.”

Fellow ROH Alum CM Punk: “I think it’s great, man. He rose to the top at a time where it seemed like John Cena might be the only person that WWE would give that opportunity to. You know, it took him a while to sort of find his groove, but I think it’s a testament to his hard work, and his stubbornness to stick with it. And to finally break through and hold a World Heavyweight Championship for more than a calendar year … that’s a big accomplishment, especially in this day and age. It all goes back to the effort he put in to get there in the first place, and the effort he put in to stand out, and be somebody that the crowd wanted to see.”

Christopher Daniels Talks Long Term Goals, Unbreakable 2005 & More

TNA star Christopher Daniels was recently interviewed by aayFabe Kickout. Here’s a recap of what Daniels said about

Staying In Shape: “What I do I try different things ahead of time, I don’t get stuck in one rut and I don’t do the same workout for more than a month at at time. I’m very interested in keeping my endurance up, my stamina up, I keep my rest periods short and I try to do as much compound movement as i can. Not isolation, but a lot of compound exercises, stuff designed to work the whole the body, to get the full body workout. I do a lot of yoga, it keeps you flexible and you recover from injury quickly and I try to keep my heart rate up the entire time. I don’t spend hours upon hours in the gym, I go in for about an hour at at time and that’s how you get the best results.”

His Long Term Goals: “Well I’m just gonna have fun until I stop having fun, if it ever became more work than it was fun I said to myself I was gonna get out. If I can’t wrestle at the same level, or at the top level that I want to wrestle I’m gonna get out. I feel like I’m wrestling the best matches of my career, I’m in the best shape of my life. I can wrestle 25 or 30 minute matches if I have to, so at this point in my career I’m nowhere close to hanging up the boots.”

His Classic Match with AJ Styles & Samoa Joe at TNA Unbreakable 2005: “It’s the one match that I’m complimented on the most and it’s the best match that we’ve done in the Impact Zone. I’ve had some great matches, I’ve been fortunate to work with a lot of great wrestlers. That was such a special crowd that night, they were so psyched to see three guys that were TNA originals wrestle in the main event, in a style that they can appreciate in the X-Division and all the stars were aligned that night for that particular match.”

Christopher Daniels Talks About The X Division Evolving, Wanting To Be World Champion, Retirement Rumors

TNA star Christopher Daniels was recently interviewed by Scottland’s Big WrestleShark Show Here are some highlights of what Daniels said about:

The X-Division Evolving: “I think it’s a testament to the guys who have come through. I think the guys that were most successful were the guys like myself who had worked around the world and were given themselves the opportunity to showcase and hone their talents. The first name that comes to mind is obviously AJ [Styles], he had opportunity to travel the world and hone his craft before TNA came around. The same thing with Samoa Joe, he had traveled Japan and worked extensively and very hard on the independent scene. He had had his Ring of Honor career, and by the time he came to TNA, he was ready to show the world who he was and he stood out… As the years progress, TNA knew they had something good with the X-Division, then they started building their tag and heavyweight division, and it became one of many good divisions as opposed to the ‘stand out’ division. It goes through waves, there are times when there are a plethora of talent and times when it takes a backseat. But I think with the current crop of talent — guys like Zema Ion, Sanjay Dutt, Kidd Kash — I feel like there are so many good guys there now. So many guys that can kick it up a notch and go in the X-Division, but are still viewed as major players overall.”

Wanting To Be TNA World Champion: “Anyone who is not trying to be the world champion is wasting their time. It’s always been a goal of mine, and honestly right now I feel like I’m as close to the world title as I have ever been. The company has a good confidence in me, to give me opportunities and I feel like I’ve shown the world I can play at the top level. I feel like I’ve shown the world I’m ready to be the top guy and be a major player. It’s just a matter of waiting to see if I get given that opportunity, your guess is as good as mine, but at the moment I’m feeling positive and just waiting for that opportunity.”

Rumors That He Is Retiring: “I don’t know where that started, I’m not looking to retire any time soon. Right now I feel I’m doing the best work of my career. My first goal was to get to 20 years, and in one month that will be the case. I’ve always said the minute it stops being fun I’ll stop. But I’m still having fun, I’m still doing what I love, I’m working with great guys, I’m in good condition, I’ve been lucky to have had very few injuries over my career. I’m not looking to hang the boots up anytime soon.”

Christopher Daniels Interview: His Curry Man Gimmick, His Rivalry With AJ Styles

Christopher Daniels spoke with Kayfabe Wrestling Radio Tuesday Night in nearly 25 minute interview. Here are some highlights.

On his Curry Man character and if he was worried about it getting over in the US: “Well, first, allow me to clarify; it was never me as Curry Man, it was always a young man known as Kiyoshi. That’s always been a misconception that people have had. So, let’s put that to rest, right away. Second of all, bringing Curry Man to the US, I wasn’t … The reason I thought it wouldn’t get over was that most of the gags in the States was that everyone knew it was me. So I didn’t know if that was going to play in the States. And then, at the time I really wasn’t letting loose with it the way I was letting loose with it in TNA and so I think I put a little more comedy in it than I was going to do because when I was doing it in Japan; like I would do the dance, I would dance to the ring, I would do all the silly stuff but once the bell rang, I would really just wrestle because it was Michinoku Pro, it was New Japan. There wasn’t really a lot of comedy or a lot of ‘Ha Ha’ going on and so the thing that Curry Man did for me there was it made me stand out in terms of my presentation; but as far as the wrestling, they really wanted the wrestler under the hood. It didn’t really matter, you know, the look, but the stuff in the ring is what they wanted.

“Now, when TNA came around, or the idea came around to bring Curry Man to TNA, it needed to be more of a presentation and more of a character than just a guy going out and wrestling. So, I think that’s why I thought it wasn’t going to get over as well as it did and I’m glad I was wrong. I still, to this day, get people talking about Curry Man; for a character that hasn’t wrestled, technically, since 2008. So, it’s cool to think that that part of my career is still respected and enjoyed and it’s awesome.”

His thoughts on his upcoming ‘One Last Time’ match with AJ Styles at Final Resolution and their longstanding rivalry: “Well, my lord, if there’s any other rivalry that’s been going on as long as me and AJ, I’d like to know who it is. Honestly, we talk about it, half-jokingly, like ‘Holy Cow, we’re wrestling each other again?!’ But, it’s just a testament to, I guess, our chemistry and the fact that the fans, despite the fact we’ve been doing it pretty much non-stop for a year to a year and a half, we’re still finding ways to make it different, make it new for the fans; and that’s the challenge for us. I was actually talking to somebody and they told me that they figured out that AJ and I have wrestled 114 singles matches in our career, and that’s to date. At this point now, I’m sure that this weekend I have live events in North Dakota , and I’m almost 100% sure that will be 115, 116, and 117, you know? TNA is going to get as many as many times out of it as they can before the “last time”. But, I just think our challenge is to make it new; the matches that we had this year, I’ve been real happy with: The Last Man Standing at Destination X, the Tag team matches we had with me and Frankie versus him and Kurt, you know the Bound for Glory Series match that we had on television. And here’s a chance to sort of end this rivalry the place where it started and see where it goes. I think it’s going to be cool; I think the fans are going to be entertained and I’m interested to see where we go from here.”

Being part of the stars from the UPW (John Cena, Daneils, Kazarian, Samoa Joe), the training videos, and if he’s surprised at the level of success they all have obtained: “Well, I was never surprised talent wise, but, I mean, so many times especially in an objective business like this, where talent doesn’t necessarily equal success; I’m happy that we all have the opportunities and caught the breaks that we did. I mean, we could have easily fallen through the cracks, especially living out in Southern California, you know, where it’s sort of tough to break pas the independent level just because there’s so little actual big time independents going on out there and it’s hard to make your name on that level out here and break out to the point where people are flying you to the East Coast and flying you overseas. It’s a testament to guys like Frankie Kazarian and Joe and other guys on the West Coast; guys like Joey Ryan, who’s just recently come into TNA for the first time. You know, it’s a testament to their talent that they’ve broken through especially now when it’s so tough in independent wrestling to catch hold and catch fire. So, I wasn’t surprised by that, I was just happy the breaks we caught were good breaks.”

If he would ever want to be on Dancing with the Stars: “Oh sure, especially when I had that wacky mask back in the day. You know, I follow my good friend Velvet Sky on Twitter and I know that she was campaigning pretty hard to be on the current season or the last season and you know, if a hot chick like that can’t get on, what chance do I have? But, I have to be realistic and say if Velvet can’t make it, no one wants to see me in a leotard. For crying out loud, they can see that on Thursday nights. But I promise, if I get on Dancing with the Stars, I will keep the bell bottom tights!”

Reasons Behind Mickie James’ Absence From Television, Christopher Daniels Talks Wrestling And Comics

– The Nov. 12 Impact Wrestling taping in Orlando, Florida, featured the television return of Mickie James following a three-and-a-half-month absence. Her hiatus was due to multiple reasons, including a major medical one.

With TNA creative’s shift in recent months to solely focusing on talent with etched storylines, James’ screen time was drastically curtailed in the spring and summer, leading to her being removed altogether in August. In September, she aggravated a rib injury during a live event tour and decided to take away from the ring. During her hiatus, she underwent surgery to remove a large benign mass, according to the Wrestling Observer. In October, James tweeted a photo of herself at the hospital after having undergone surgery, but did not mention the nature of the procedure.

James was said to be in great spirits on the night of her return.

– Speaking to Pipedream Comics, Christopher Daniels explained why there are a lot of similarities between wrestling and comics.

“I think that both offer the type of escapism that people are looking for in their entertainment, the type where good eventually triumphs over evil, where everything turns out good in the end. And while, the journey to that climax is happening, mood twists and turns keep an audience wanting more,” said Daniels.

In response to a question asking which wrestlers in TNA, WWE and even Ring of Honor would make the best comic characters, he said, “Well we’re all just comic book characters come to life anyway but for the sake of this particular question I’ll go with the most colorful and charismatic of characters: Rey Mysterio, Brodus Clay, Sin Cara, Kane, AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Curry Man and El Generico. And yours truly, of course!”

Daniels also talks about wanting to develop a comic based on his wrestling persona, reading comics on digital devices and more. The full interview is available here.

Christopher Daniels Discusses Sting Being Inducted Into The TNA Hall of Fame, Bound For Glory, Marvel Comics

TNA Wrestling star and one half of the “World Tag Team Champions of the World”, the “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels joined The Rack Thursday Night. In a nearly 20 minute interview he talked about this evening’s Impact Wrestling and being put through a table by Sting and Bully Ray, his upcoming title defense against two teams at Bound for Glory, what he thinks of Sting going into the TNA Hall of Fame, the secret recipe for his famous Appletini, his involvement with Marvel Comics and especially Spider Man and any suggestions he has for fans, how to get Kaz and himself their own TV show, his favorite Bound for Glory moment, who he knows the leader of Aces and 8’s truly is, what the slogan would be if Kazarian and himself ran for the White House and much more.

How he was feeling after having been just put through a table at Impact by Sting and Bully Ray: Well, I am a little uncomfortable. I currently have ice on my back all the way down to the back of my right leg. I feel a little bit of sciatica, but because I am a physical marvel, I’m sure that I will be 105% for Bound for Glory; in fact, I’m going to do a bit of light jogging tonight as soon as I’m done eating here at the restaurant where I am eating. And then I’m going to stretch out a little bit and do some DDP Yoga.

His letter being printed in a recent Spider Man comic and how he got his comic super powers from a handshake with Billy Graham: “Exactly, both Frankie Kazarian and myself, it’s 100% true. You can look it up, it’s on Wikipedia; it’s on someone’s Wikipedia page, probably not mine because I don’t write my own, like some people. Look it up; if it’ says its on the internet, it’s true. If it happen in a Marvel letter’s column, so therefore it must be true.”

On having to face two teams this weekend at Bound for Glory: “Such a silly question. Of course we are ready to go. We’ve already beaten Kurt Angle and AJ Styles not once but twice; we beat them for the belts, the belts we currently hold, we defeated them for and we also beat them at No Surrender. And then, Chavo Guerrero III and Sean Hernandez, Jr. (sic); we’ve beaten those guys on national television. So, I mean, Hulk Hogan figured, ‘Well, if we can’t beat them, we’ve got to stack the deck against them’ so that all four of those guys are in the ring with us, but the problem is now those two teams are arguing with each other. Who’s going to get a chance at Kaz and Daniels first? Is it going to be the Latin guys? Is it going to be AJ or Kurt? I’ll tell you what the answer is: neither one of those guys is going to get their hands on us. We’re going to pick them apart; we’re like vultures picking apart a carcass on the Serengeti. We’re going to beat them to death, we’re going to leave them lying in a pool of their own blood. It’s as simple as that.”

What it was like being in the ring with an icon and future Hall of Famer like Sting: “Any time I can physically dominate someone like Sting, it’s awesome. But, of course things being the way they are, we were double teamed. We were unjustly beat upon; it was a 2-on-1 disadvantage that both Frankie and myself were put in. And then they bring tables into the ring; we won that match by DQ, We were three seconds away from beating them both with our finished, but of course then the table came into play and of course those guys couldn’t have beaten us 1-on-1, 2-on-1; they had to bring a table in. It was like an IKEA fest in there; everyone chanting ‘We want Tables! We Want Tables! Hey Bubba, get the Tables!’ For crying out loud! If they wanted tables, they could go shopping. This is professional wrestling; Frankie and I don’t dabble in this table nonsense. We don’t need props or paraphernalia to beat teams.”

His thoughts on Sting going into the TNA Hall of Fame: “You know what, I completely understand, as a current top guy in Impact Wrestling, and someone whose career is still so far from being over. Sting, however; he’s maybe three days away from retirement at any given moment, so that’s fine with me. He’s been a great ambassador for our company. He’s been someone who has supported this company since its inception. He’s an outstanding guy backstage, supporting the young wrestlers; guys that need direction and inspiration. I don’t personally need it but I see him backstage helping young lads out, like Dakota Darsow and Jesse Sorenson and Zema Ion and even once in a while giving a hand to someone like AJ Styles or Bob van Dam. You know, I don’t need those accolades from Sting because I already know I’m great. But, he’s trying to help out and try to be a team player and he deserves it. He’s put his effort it and he’s been an icon. He’s been an icon for many, many years now and he deserves it. It’ll be great to see him go off into the sunset and stop hanging in our locker room.”

His Bound for Glory moment and what it’s like being part of Bound for Glory, especially in a new market for TNA: “My favorite moment is, and I’ll share it with you because I don’t know if they are going to show it on television because they are biased against me, is the first Bound for Glory. The day before the flight, actually hours before the flight I had to leave Los Angeles to fly to Orlando to participate in the first Bound for Glory, my son was born. And if he was born 8 minutes later, I would have missed the flight and I wouldn’t have been able to make the first Bound for Glory where I wrestled AJ Styles in an Iron Man Match for the X Division Title. But 7 minutes after he was born, I got in my car and drove to LAX, and if you watch the first Bound for Glory and you look closely, on my right hand you’ll see a white hospital bracelet, worn in honor of my son’s birth, two days before the Bound for Glory event. So that’s my favorite moment.

“As far as Bound for Glory, you know I can’t say enough about the effort that our locker room puts together when we get into a situation like Bound for Glory. I think everyone say the effort we put into Slammiversary this year; Slammiversary was an off-the-charts show. And now we’re going to be in another new market, the first time for us to be in Phoenix, AZ. It’s going to be a chance for Phoenix to see their favorite wrestlers. For some people, that may be Sting, that may be AJ Styles, but let’s be honest, most people’s favorite is me and Frankie Kazarian. So it’s going to be a great day for all of Phoenix to get a chance to see ‘The Physical Fascination’ Frankie Kazarian and ‘The Sexually Delicious’ Christopher Daniels.”

The audio interview is available here.

Christopher Daniels On How Much Longer He Plans To Wrestle, Knockout Appears In Nude Scene

– Promoting next Sunday’s Bound For Glory pay-per-view event, Christopher Daniels addressed a number of TNA topics in an interview with Jeff Wilen of The Daytona Beach News-Journal, including the Aces & 8s storyline.

“I know our company has sat down and mapped up where it wants to go months ahead of time,” he states. “The end result will be something months of effort have been put into.”

As the current TNA World Tag Team Champions, Christopher Daniels and Kazarian have dubbed themselves “The World Tag Team Champions of the World.” He explains the label.

“With the idea of being a team a year ago, we saw a lack of long-term tag teams in TNA. We decided to do a tag team and be a tag team like Motor City Machine Guns and Beer Money. Other circumstances have allowed us to be the best tag team in our company right now. I feel we’re the team to beat. I feel we’re the target. We’ve set it up so we’ve made the belts mean something,” he said.

Now 42-years-old and having wrestled since 1993, Daniels doesn’t plan on hanging up the boots anytime soon.

“As long as I don’t prostitute my principals, I see many, many years of wrestling left,” Daniels said of his future in wrestling. “My goal is to get to 20 years. In January, I will be at 20. I’d love to get 25 or 30. I probably will still be in the business after wrestling, maybe in play-by-play or color commentary. We’ll see. I don’t see an end to my in-ring career yet.”

Daniels also addressed company morale, the Claire Lynch storyline, Austin Aries vs. Jeff Hardy at Bound For Glory, if he plans to remain a tag team wrestler and more. (Interview)

– Taryn Terrell, who works as an actress outside of TNA Wrestling, appeared completely nude on Sunday night’s episode of Treme on HBO. The episode airs multiple times this week.

Christopher Daniels Says Claire Lynch Storyline Concluded As Planned, Discusses Comic Book Characters

Christopher Daniels was a guest this past weekend on The LAW (www.liveaudiowrestling.com) discussing Bound for Glory (October 14th, 8pm EST on pay-per-view) and also touched on the recent Claire Lynch storyline and his thoughts on “The Amazing Spiderman” and “The Dark Knight Rises” from this past summer. The full interview can be downloaded here. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

The Claire Lynch storyline: “As far as Frankie (Kazarian) and myself, our main goal was to try to come out of it looking like the crap-stirring scumbags that we wanted to play, that we’re trying to be. Every time we went out there with a promo, every time we went out there with a pre-tape or any sort of interaction like that, we were looking to see how quickly we could get people’s ire raised. Whatever the positivity of it in the beginning, and then what some people sort of perceive as missteps in the angle, it didn’t matter to us how that was going. All that mattered to us was that at the end of each segment or the end of each episode of this particular saga, Frankie and I came out looking like the dastardly duo that we are.

“I think that people misunderstand what happened behind the scenes as the reason that it ended. My understanding of it from the beginning was that it was going to end when it ended. All the pertinent players weren’t there when it ended, but that didn’t affect the way it went down. The major parts were myself, Frankie, and AJ, and that was the important stuff. The focus was started there, and it ended there; everything else was just incidental, in my eyes. I was very happy with the way it ended, because in the end AJ got his vindication. Frankie and I, our reputations are what they are, and what we built them up to be, and now we move forward with not just us versus AJ, but us versus the Impact Wrestling locker room.”

The Amazing Spiderman: “Honestly, when I first heard he was cast, I wasn’t very impressed. I saw him in The Social Network, and out of the whole cast of The Social Network he was one of the lower points to me personally. I was gonna see the movie anyway, just because the trailer sort of got me with its look. Going to watch the movie, yeah, he absolutely got it. When people ask me, I tell them there’s regular Marvel universe Spider-man, and then there’s Ultimate Spider-man, and comic fans know what I’m talking about. The Tobey Maguire Spider-man was very much the Marvel comics, the tried and true Spider-man, whereas Andrew Garfield, to me that storyline and the way it was portrayed was more of the Ultimate Spider-man line. I think that the comic fans, the ones that already knew it was gonna be great, understand that reference. I think fans that aren’t fans of the comic books will go and they’ll immediately understand and appreciate the differences between the two films.”

Possible spin-offs with Robin and Catwoman: “I don’t think it’s gonna be a Robin, I think it’s gonna be a Nightwing if they were gonna go to do that at all. I think that Joseph Gordon-Levitt would probably be the most logical, and have Anne Hathaway be not a supporting character, but not be the focus of the movie. That’s just my opinion. Near the end, as you’re watching The Dark Knight Rises, as you realize where they’re sort of going with it, I think there’s a lot of hype, or at least fanbase built-up hype, towards a Nightwing/Robin movie. Joseph Gordon-Levitt, with the success that he’s had in the last couple years, and the stuff that’s upcoming for him, I think that there’d be a lot of desire to see something like that with Christopher Nolan directing and him starring. That would be a big deal, I think, for DC (Comics). Now that they’ve sort of closed the book on Christian Bale as Batman, it’d be a good evolution of the characters to go that route.”
