AEW is Going Through “Addition by Subtraction” After All Out Controversy

All Elite Wrestling is dealing with its share of problems at this time, following the events of AEW All Out.

After the September 4, Pay Per View, CM Punk had explosive comments for several people on the roster, including AEW’s Executive Vice Presidents The Elite.

Backstage, a fight broke out, which Punk is believed to have instigated and thrown the first punch.

The Meeting

Despite these issues, AEW has not slowed down with its content production, with last night being the AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam special.

According to a report from Fightful, the meeting was held in the afternoon, hours before AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam went live.

It was not confirmed who spoke, but it is reported that the meeting was considered a ‘pep-talk’ and was said to be “very positive.”

This is the latest meeting for the promotion after a talent-wide meeting was held last month to address reports of talent being unhappy.

A meeting was held earlier this month following the controversy following AEW All Out.

Addition by Subtraction

The meetings held by AEW so far have been received positively by attendees, and it’s reported that the mood backstage has begun to improve.

One veteran AEW talent said the backstage atmosphere recently has been a lot more relaxed since All Out and the post-show incidents.

Another talent added that the locker room at the last three tapings has been the best it’s been in a while.

One source said that AEW is going through a process of “addition by subtraction;” making the promotion better by the removal of some members of the roster.

It is unclear who this source is referring to, though CM Punk, Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks and Ace Steel have all been removed from programming.

“One Of The Greatest Feuds Of All Time” – MJF Comments On His Rivalry With CM Punk In AEW

MJF returned to All Elite Wrestling at All Out on September 4th. Stokely Hathaway and The Firm attacked during the Casino Ladder match and a man in a devil’s mask entered as The Joker. The masked man grabbed the chip to ensure a future shot at the AEW Championship.

Following CM Punk capturing the AEW Championship from Jon Moxley in the main event, MJF appeared on the entrance ramp. Maxwell and CM Punk had a stare-down as All Out went off the air. Punk and MJF had an incredible rivalry and AEW fans were looking forward to revisiting it with the AEW Championship on the line.

Unfortunately, CM Punk was injured during the match and also was involved in a brawl with The Elite following his rant at the media scrum. MJF has traded words with Jon Moxley in recent weeks. Jon will battle Bryan Danielson this Wednesday night at Dynamite Grand Slam to determine the new AEW Champion.

MJF On The Media Scrum Brawl, His Rivalry With CM Punk

Speaking with Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour, Maxwell noted that he cannot comment on the press conference but said that the company is in a great place right now and backed it up with numbers.

“It doesn’t apply to me, it doesn’t concern me. I’ll tell you why and I’m going to use numbers. Because numbers don’t lie, numbers are facts and facts don’t care about feelings. When MJF goes out there, I pop a huge number. We just killed it in the ratings for the second week in a row. And again, if people leave, come, go, stay, people are going to step up to the plate.

We’ve got massive stars in our company, so I am not concerned in the least. I’m not going to comment on what was said because it doesn’t apply to me. But what I will say is our company, numbers don’t lie, our company is great right now. We’re about to have an incredible show at Arthur Ashe.”

Ariel then asked if All Elite Wrestling needs CM Punk and MJF decline to comment MJF added that his feud with CM Punk will go down as one of the greatest of all time.

“No comment. What I will say is that me and CM Punk had the greatest feud in the history of the company. And I do honestly think it will go down as one of the greatest feuds of all time.” [07:09 – 07:20]

CM Punk Returning To MMA Commentary Amid AEW Drama

Former AEW world champion CM Punk will be returning to MMA commentary amidst the ongoing drama that has stemmed from his media scrum comments.

Cage Fury Fighting Championships or CFFC recently announced their return to Parx Casino in Bensalem, Penn on October 8.

They revealed that the event will be main evented by a fight between Greg Velasco and Kevin Sears for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship.

The press release also confirmed that the AEW star will be a part of the show and he will call the action alongside John Morgan:

“Former All Elite Wrestling champion and two-time UFC veteran CM Punk calls the action at CFFC 113 alongside Mixed Martial Arts.com editor-in-chief John Morgan on UFC FIGHT PASS.”

The Straight Edge star has been absent from AEW programming since he called out the AEW EVPs in the All Out post-media scrum. The comments led to a backstage fight between Punk and The Elite.

Kenny Omega and others have been suspended from the company as a result. Punk was subsequently stripped of the AEW world title as well. His suspension, however, hasn’t been confirmed by any source.

The former champion has gotten surgery for a torn tricep in the meantime and he is expected to stay out of action for the foreseeable future.

AEW Executive’s Suspension Concludes, Backstage For Tonight’s Dynamite

The biggest story in the world of pro-wrestling over the last two weeks has been the comments made by CM Punk at the AEW ALL OUT media scrum, and the backstage melee that ensued between the Second City Saint and The Elite. This led to a number of suspensions for both talent, and backstage executives who tried to stop the fight.

One of the suspensions was for VP of Talent Development Pat Buck. He missed last week’s AEW Dynamite in Buffalo, which was the first episode following the events of ALL OUT weekend. However, a new report has surfaced stating that Buck’s suspension is officially over.

According to PW Insider, Buck is backstage for this evening’s episode of AEW Dynamite from Albany. It was noted that Buck was integral in helping break the fight up between Punk and The Elite. A third-party investigation is still ongoing and will determine the future of Punk and his longtime friend Ace Steel.

Road Dogg Wanted to Fight CM Punk After Being Disrespected in WWE

Road Dogg has opened up on his issues with CM Punk, which were big enough that he considered throwing down with him.

The former WWE Tag Team Champion spoke about his issues with CM Punk while discussing world championship runs and the perception behind “needing” a world title win.

Road Dogg recalled during the new episode of his Oh… You Didn’t Know? podcast on AdFreeShows.com that Punk had the mentality of needing to be the top champion and being in the main event.

Road Dogg on his Issues With Punk

Road Dogg

Road Dogg discussed wrestlers wanting certain clauses in their contracts and recalled why he still doesn’t have any respect for Punk. It goes back to the 2014 brief run together in WWE between Punk and the New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg & Billy Gunn).

“Bro, I’ve been burying him for years, and I’m not kidding. He’s not a nice person. He’s not a good — I don’t know. I don’t know. If you’ve been friends with somebody for so long and all the sudden you’re in a lawsuit over stuff and you can’t just talk to it? I just don’t understand it, but that’s not the straw that broke the camel’s back for me,” Road Dogg said. “It was when we actually had to work with him in our 2014 run [in WWE]. Seeing the attitude he had towards me and Billy — granted, we were not Hall Of Famers at the time, but we were on our way to be for sure — and we were the New Age Outlaws, at least we’d been there as long as he had, you know what I mean? He showed us not respect, he showed us disrespect, so that was that. You don’t get a second chance at that. I’m showing you respect, why aren’t you showing me respect? Honky Tonk Man said, ‘I don’t bodyslam you, why are you bodyslamming me?’

“The truth of it is, respect is a two-way street and if you don’t give it, you dang sure ain’t getting it. Not from me, and you got one shot at that, from me and Billy. It was just, he talked to us negatively and if I hadn’t had a job there, if I wouldn’t have been newly hired, I probably would’ve fought him. I feel relatively confident I would’ve come out on top. This was prior to his [MMA training], so maybe I would’ve come out on top, maybe I wouldn’t have,” Road Dogg proclaimed, “but I was willing to find out. That’s enough burying Punk, he’s burying himself good enough right now.”

The New Age Outlaws and CM Punk had a brief run together in January 2014. That same year, Road Dogg returned to working as a producer while Billy Gunn resumed his duties as a trainer in NXT and Punk left the company.

Update On AEW Suspensions Of CM Punk & The Elite

CM Punk, Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks were all crowned champions at AEW All Out and were stripped of their championships three days later on Dynamite.

After the PPV went off the air, CM Punk went on an expletive-filled rant about the AEW EVPs, Colt Cabana, and Hangman Adam Page. AEW EVPs and newly crowned Trios Champions The Elite (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks) confronted the AEW Champion after his comments and it led to a brawl.

CM Punk reportedly threw the first punch and AEW producer Ace Steel reportedly bit Kenny Omega and hurled a chair at Nick Jackson’s face.

AEW President Tony Khan has since suspended CM Punk, Ace Steel, Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, Christopher Daniels, Pat Buck, Michael Nakazawa, and presumably everyone else that was in the vicinity of the brawl as the company conducts an independent investigation into the matter.

Update On The Suspensions Given To The AEW Talent

Fightful Select has provided an update on the suspensions levied on AEW talent, coaches and production crew members. The update states that as of now, those that are suspended still do not know how long their suspensions are for. Fightful added that those backstage in AEW believe that will remain the case until the investigation is complete and any potential legal situations are sorted out.

CM Punk and Ace Steel’s future with the company remains uncertain. CM Punk and The Elite were recently removed from the AEW Full Gear poster as well. AEW’s Full Gear PPV will take place over two months from now on November 19th.

According to Fightful, Kenny Omega, Michael Nakazawa, and Christopher Daniels were already scheduled to have this week off from AEW television to visit Japan. The former AEW Champion was spotted visiting the SEGA office in Japan while serving his suspension. All Elite Wrestling’s first video game entitled ‘Fight Forever’ is slated for release later this year.

CM Punk Fallout: Backstage AEW Blowup was ‘Only a Matter of Time’

The “Press Conference from Hell,” as one witty Twitter fan called it, following All-Elite Wrestling’s All-Out pay-per-view on Sept. 4 – and the backstage fight that followed – was the end result of growing tensions in the AEW locker room and a star who felt he had been wronged, scapegoated and wasn’t appreciated by younger talent.

Reports from Dave Meltzer at the Wrestling Observer, wrestlers who have spoken on the subject and others who have talked about the company in interviews and social media, painted a picture of a company and a locker room that was coming to a boiling point over the departure of Colt Cabana, a lack of TV time for a growing roster and a locker room that was split in different ways.

CM Punk

Wrestlers who had worked with Punk previously weren’t surprised at his “receipt” promo aimed at Adam “Hangman” Page three weeks ago. Punk was still upset over a cryptic promo Page gave in May when the two were building to the main event of the Double or Nothing PPV, where Punk won the AEW World title from Page.

Page spoke about Punk as being a fraud when it came to “worker’s rights” and backstage talent. Fans at home thought Page was trying to build some intrigue into the match beyond a babyface vs. babyface match, but the locker room and reporters who knew of the situation involving Cabana understood what the promo was about -rumors that Punk had Cabana fired over a lawsuit. Cabana and Punk were friends until WWE and a doctor with the company sued both after Punk had accused WWE and its medical personnel of negligent medical care on Cabana’s podcast. The messy list of events resulted in Cabana suing Punk.

The Cabana rumors became a thorn in Punk’s side that festered too long. But despite the Page promo, and Punk blasting a fan on live TV for heckling him by chanting Cabana, a fallout between AEW and Punk seemed ridiculous.

Punk achieved folk hero status since his return to AEW at the First Dance Rampage show in Sept 2021, selling out the United Center in Chicago without any official announcement. He headlined multiple PPVs, shook off a decade of ring rust for some of his best promos and matches in his career and seemed to be enjoying himself on a nightly basis. In a post on Instagram two weeks ago, he said the past 12 months were the best year he ever had in his career.

Punk was no longer a gritty anti-hero, or a rebel heel against the establishment. He was Dusty Rhodes or Magnum TA. The business had molded itself in his image while he was away, even if he didn’t build AEW and hadn’t appeared in a ring outside WWE since the mid 2000s. He was beloved by the owner of the company and the fans who chanted his name during every appearance.

Punk’s top-guy status, white hat babyface role, new world title and the calming storm following the Cabana controversy should have put things to rest. It didn’t. That made his press conference rant – and the brawl that followed – all the more confusing. But the warning signs were there. Punk had become closer to FTR backstage, who had their own issues with AEW management. His snapping at a fan during a live Dynamite, his receipt on Page, only served to keep the Cabana story alive and keep Punk tied to it.

Khan attempted to put the issue to rest, whether it convinced the majority of the locker room or not. Khan told Forbes he made the decision to part with Cabana and Punk played no part in the decision. According to Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Cabana had told Khan last fall he would not want to work in the same company as Punk.

Despite Khan’s statement, Punk was still agitated by the subject. While doing an in-ring angle and promo with his friend and AEW producer Ace Steel, Punk lashed out at a fan who was heckling him with a “Colt Cabana” chant in a spontaneous and angry way before continuing his promo and then offering a quick apology.

This wasn’t the end. Punk immediately brought Cabana to the forefront of the All Out press conference, questioning reporter Nick Hausman about his relationship with Cabana before going into details about Cabana’s lawsuit against him. He also said court discovery during the lawsuit revealed Cabana shared a bank account with his mom.

Punk then went on to accuse “the EVPs’ – Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson – of planting stories about him in wrestling media. Fightful Select wrote a few hours after the show had ended that it was the first site to break the news that the locker room was upset over Cabana being let go. The story said none of the company EVP’s – the Young Bucks or Kenny Omega – had been a source for the story.

Punk’s rant took more shots at the Elite and Cabana, Hangman Adam Page and the lack of appreciation younger wrestlers had in the feedback he was willing to give. He took aim at MJF in kayfabe, saying “the grass isn’t greener on the other side, it’s greener where you water it.” Ironic, since he had metaphorically dumped a gallon of gasoline on Khan’s yard before dropping a lit cigarette. Punk said if anyone had a problem with what he said, they could come talk – and they did.

Reports vary, but Nick and Matt Jackson went to Punk’s locker room. Either together or arriving later, Kenny Omega was there as well as several producers. Punk, Steel, the Jacksons, Omega, Christopher Daniels and Pat Buck were suspended for the fight that started and the pull-apart that occurred afterward. A member of AEW’s legal team witnessed the fight as well as several other wrestlers who weren’t considered friends of either Punk or the Young Bucks.

Khan held meetings with Punk and the Elite on the Monday following the fight. Rumors began to come out that Punk and Steel had been fired, but that didn’t occur. The company has hired a third party to investigate the incident. This could be due to the threat of lawsuits being made during and after the fight by a participant.

The details of the brawl have yet to be confirmed, but different versions have come out on the internet from the perspectives of those siding with Punk and those with the Elite. The details that are not in dispute are the following: Nick Jackson took a chair to his eye. Ace Steel bit Kenny Omega and pulled him by the hair. The Jacksons approached Punk after the press conference almost immediately and came to his locker room unannounced. There was a pull apart that involved several producers who were also suspended. There were multiple witnesses to the event.

The overwhelming response from the locker room was Punk should be fired. His press conference rant buried the company, possibly slandered or libeled Cabana, blasted one of the company’s stars in Hangman Page, and did it while embarrassing the company’s owner who shook his head in disbelief while Punk ranted. Not to mention his shots at The Elite, who worked to get many of the company’s young stars over and whose work over the last decade made the company’s existence a reality. The Elite are responsible for making a second major wrestling promotion possible in the U.S., something that was unthinkable in 2015.

Meltzer said during Wrestling Observer Live last week that the investigation and the lack of details available was frustrating and disconcerting. That if this happened with a pro sports team, the details would already be out and this appeared to be an older school wrestling mentality of keeping it in house. But the situation is being handled in a manner closer to Vince McMahon’s investigation by the WWE Board of Directors and not a regular HR investigation handled by a company or even a team issue which would be handled by a coaching staff. All of those involved have been suspended and told not to discuss the fight with anyone. Like the McMahon investigation, a third-party has been brought in. That AEW is being this cautious and thorough shows how serious the incident is.

AEW is exercising extreme caution with how it proceeds and has given no indication when its investigation will be complete. Meltzer said the company would most likely not diverge any details on the brawl, but would leak out eventually once the investigation is complete.

AEW locker room issues

Over the past year the locker room has been divided into different camps, with “AEW originals,” wrestlers who came to the company from the indies or who started with the company at the beginning (The Elite, Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, etc.), who were wistful for the early days of the promotion when talent was more cooperative and worked as a team.

Some wrestlers have been frustrated by their lack of TV time, given the large roster and the three hours of TV AEW has to try to fit in everyone (AEW produces shows on YouTube as well). Many in the locker room became disillusioned with their lack of TV time. Multiple talents told me within the last month that many of the WWE wrestlers who came to AEW assumed the worst when certain booking decisions were made and that they were getting the short-end of the stick in a game of politics anytime something didn’t go the way they wanted or expected.

“Some people came here after years of having promises fall through or things not working out,” one wrestler said. Multiple talent said some WWE talent felt those same machinations in WWE – years worth of revolving door politics – were occurring in AEW, and it put them on the defensive or made them question booking decisions as being political. AEW’s longterm booking focus is also different for those who worked under the McMahons, who often changed TV shows up to the time of airing.

Wrestlers were with the company from the beginning were wistful for its early days, when the company started Dynamite in October of 2019, and the locker room was loaded with younger wrestlers and a team-first work ethic.

This was the subject of a meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 7, before Dynamite when veterans Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley spoke. Jericho and Moxley have been with the company since its first PPV, and Danielson joined last year after over a decade in WWE. The reason for the meeting was to get the locker room on the same page and focus itself as a team again, like it was in the earlier days of the promotion. All three are well respected, two have been with the company since its first PPV, and all three know the frustrations of the wrestling business and can relate to the rest of the roster.

Most notable at the meeting was Moxley, who didn’t speak at the meeting two weeks ago that was arranged by Tony Khan. Moxley would later cut a promo in the first quarter hour of Dynamite that some called the best of his career and considered a rallying cry for himself and the promotion. Moxley is known to keep to himself. His quiet and stoic style fit his Midwest working class Cincinnati street upbringing. That Mox talked at the meeting surprised many, but his passion for the company and its future came through, especially during his promo on the show.

FTR and the Young Bucks

Most emblematic of the backstage issues has been the ongoing problems between the Young Bucks and FTR. Rumored issues between the two tag teams – especially from FTR member Dax Harwood – were spinning the rumor mill for months and became more public after Harwood blasted Meltzer on Twitter on Aug. 5.

Meltzer, through a quote tweet, said fans who felt FTR were being buried by the Bucks were “Alex Jones types.” Dax responded with an expletive and said he should try getting both sides of the story. Ironically, Harwood refused to share his side when he was prompted by several fans in his replies.

FTR and Punk had taken to each other backstage. The three were photographed wearing tribute gear to Bret Hart and were on a six-man tag together when Punk broke his foot. Harwood’s issues with the Bucks pre-date those Punk had with Page and the EVPs, but they came to a more volatile boil. Harwood’s seeming inference that him and his partner Cash Wheeler are being buried by the EVPs is nonsensical given the TV time and the massive babyface push they’ve received.

As a tag team, FTR has six losses in its two years since joining AEW – the last coming in February against Jon Moxley and CM Punk. They hold three world titles (ROH, New Japan’s IWGP and Mexico’s AAA) while Dax has been featured in numerous singles matches, including an ROH title match on AEW Rampage on Sept. 9. They have split two matches with the Young Bucks, and FTR’s other losses are to top teams in the company, including Santana and Ortiz and the Lucha Brothers.

The Young Bucks have lost four times since March – they lost the AEW tag titles to Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee, lost to Jurassic Express, the Hardys and FTR.

Where AEW goes from here

The problems AEW has currently would have been called “Monday” during WCW’s most profitable days, not to mention the snake-pit WWE could be after it became the only major company in the business. One veteran I talked to recently said the company is still the best he’s worked for in terms of environment.

AEW was bound to hiccup at some point. Communication issues have been a problem for over a year, but the company is now working to sort those out. Many of the issues were natural problems that occur when opening s new promotion – especially one that has to produce 52 weeks of TV a year. Wrestlers are taking on leadership roles and Khan has promoted people the roster looks up to in key positions.

What happens with the Young Bucks and Kenny Omega remains another question. Firing the three could result in a revolt. The locker room is far more aligned with The Elite than they are with Punk. Wrestlers are certainly aware how important the Jacksons and Omega are to the business.

Given the seriousness of the investigation, what Punk said at the press conference and what happened following it, it’s hard to imagine Punk continuing to wrestle in AEW. Alvarez on WOL described their situation as “volatile” and that he couldn’t see either side working together again in the same company. It’s a strange situation given how The Elite worked to court Punk to AEW before the company officially started. Punk would publicly rip Cody Rhodes for trying to negotiate with him over phone text and not meet face to face.

The biggest concerns for AEW aren’t Punk, but Warner Bros. Discovery and its massive dollar loss following its pulling films from its HBO Max streaming service, as well as other cost saving measures that sent warning bells to Wall Street and cost the company a quarter of its value. AEW is still in a great position to negotiate – it has a hot product, is one of the leading shows on Wednesdays, and WBD had made sports non-scripted programming its top signing priority. It wants to work a new deal with the NBA before its contract expires in 2024. This looking ahead could be good news for AEW, whose current TV deal expires the same year.

Ric Flair On CM Punk’s Media Scrum Rant: “I Love It”

Different people have different opinions on CM Punk’s post All Out media scrum rant. There are many who believe that Punk was in the wrong. There are some others like Ric Flair who seem to support the former WWE star.

The 16-time world champion talked about the whole debacle on his To Be The Man podcast. He first mentioned how Punk is giving a lot of entertainment to fans.

Ric Flair then commented on the Straight Edge Star telling people to come and find him in his locker room. The wrestling veteran explained that it’s the old-school way of doing things and he loves it:

“He’s creating excitement now, and if he’s not afraid to say it…. I like the way he said I’ll walk down the hall and be ready.

That’s Harley Race talking right there. I don’t if he’s that tough but [laughs] I love it.” said Ric Flair, “That’s old-time stuff right there, it is. You got a problem with me, you can find me, right there in the building,”

The 2-time WWE Hall of Famer noted how he doesn’t know The Elite all that well and they have seemed easy to get along with in the limited encounter they have had.

However, Flair reiterated that what Punk did was showing courage. If he feels so strongly about someone then Ric doesn’t blame him for calling them out.

CM Punk and Bobby Fish’s Relationship Soured After Their 2021 Dynamite Matchup

One week ago AEW held their annual ALL OUT pay-per-view from the NOW Arena in Chicago, which saw CM Punk recapture the world championship from Jon Moxley in the main event, and the monumental return of MJF.

However, the post-show media scrum and eventual backstage altercation between Punk and The Elite have dominated the headlines as the incidents have put a dark cloud over the promotion’s successes. Former AEW star Bobby Fish has not been shy of giving his thoughts on the situation, where had some major criticisms of Punk and even called him a not so kind word. You can read about Fish’s dislike of the Second City Saint here.

When Fish and Punk’s relationship took a turn

Fish and Punk actually wrestled each other an an October episode of AEW Dynamite back in 2021. The bout was a competitive back and forth that Punk ended up winning via his GTS finisher, but for some reason Fish kicked out at 3.1 seconds. The ending was clearly not the original plan as the live crowd, and Punk, were visibly confused as to why the kickout had occurred.

According to Fightful, this was the reason Punk and Fish’s relationship soured as Punk was indeed upset at the kick-out happening. The report states that communication between the two pretty much stopped aftewards.

Fish is now a free agent as his AEW contract expired after being absent from television due for several weeks. Fish was getting married at the time, but injuries to Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly kept him off television longer than anticipated.

KENTA 100% Agrees With Bobby Fish For Saying CM Punk Stole His Finisher

Add KENTA to the list of CM Punk’s enemies.

The NJPW star took to Twitter to respond to the recent interview comments made by former AEW talent Bobby Fish, who unleashed his true thoughts on Punk following the disastrous events from last Sunday’s ALL OUT media scrum and the backstage brawl that occurred afterwards. Fish’s full comments can be found here.

At one point in the interview Fish stated that Punk was in the wrong for stealing KENTA’s finishing maneuver, the GTS, and not even having the decency to give him any credit over the years. The former Undisputed Era’s exact quotes were, “Phil, you took a man’s finishing maneuver. Anyone who knows pro-wrestling knows that’s f***ed up. You weren’t even decent enough to change the name.”

KENTA Agrees With Fish

So how did KENTA feel about what Fish said? He tweeted out the quotes on his persona account and writes, “Hey Bobby. You Are 100% right.”

This isn’t the first time KENTA has made his feelings about Punk known. Ahead of Forbidden Door (prior to Punk breaking his foot) he wrote “It looks like the forbidden door won’t open for me But I’m totally fine as long as he pays royalty.”

That’s not all. Sometimes KENTA just goes off on Punk whenever he feels like it.

Booker T On Whether a CM Punk WWE Return is Possible

During the AEW All Out 2022 post-show media scrum, CM Punk had some explosive comments for Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks.

Punk criticized the management skill of the AEW EVPs and also accused them of spreading false information about him.

The two-time AEW World Champion also fought with the Bucks and Omega, in a brawl that also involved Punk’s trainer Ace Steel.

Return to WWE?

Due to his comments and involvement in the fight (in addition to an injury) Punk has been removed from AEW programming and stripped of the AEW World title.

It has been reported that Punk could be fired (if not already) or could choose to leave AEW, especially if Steel is fired as expected. Speaking to WrestlingInc, Booker T discussed a possible WWE return for the ‘Best in the World.

“It would be hard, it would be really hard for him just to swallow his pride and go back to that.”

Booker T on CM Punk.

Booker added that while Punk’s time on WWE Backstage provided an opportunity, he believes that ship has sailed.

The two-time WWE Hall of Famer also questions what Punk’s “positioning” would be in WWE’s current roster.

Is a Deal Possible?

Punk walked out of WWE after the 2014 Royal Rumble Pay Per View, citing injuries and frustrations with the company.

Though Punk was part of WWE Backstage in 2019, the former Champion never returned to WWE, signing a deal with FOX instead.

Appearing on the Barstool Sports’ ‘Pardon my Take’ podcast in April 2021, Triple H didn’t rule out a CM Punk return, saying “never say never.”

However, Triple H added that there has to be a desire on both sides for a Punk-WWE return to work.

Ric Flair Reacts To CM Punk’s Presser Comments, Brawl With The Elite

Two-time WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair has reacted to CM Punk’s recent All Out press conference comments, as well as his brawl with The Elite.

As noted, CM Punk made some pretty strong comments about Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks during his press conference interview after All Out this past weekend.

Shortly after returning backstage, The Elite confronted Punk in his locker room, which led to a brawl.

Speaking on his podcast, “To Be The Man,” Ric Flair offered his thoughts on the entire situation.

In regards to Punk’s comments at the presser, and the AEW World Champion inviting people to come see him if they have a problem with him – Flair loved it.

“I’ve been watching it from afar and it’s very entertaining. If it’s entertainment the fans want, it’s entertainment they’re getting. Punk is giving them a lot of it. We just barely got to say hi [in WWE].

“I was long gone when all the bad blood seemed to appear between he and Hunter, then the lawsuit with the doctor and all that. I wasn’t aware of any of it and saw it like everybody else on social media. I always sided with Hunter on that because I didn’t know the other guy.

“But [Punk] is creating excitement now, and if he’s not afraid to say it – I like the way he said, ‘I’ll walk down the hall and be ready.’ That’s Harley Race talking right there. I don’t know if he’s that tough, but I love that.

“That’s old-time stuff right there. ‘If you got a problem with me, you can find me right there in the building.’ It’s got to be dividing the locker room.’

CM Punk

The Elite certainly took Punk at his word, as they did confront him immediately after his comments, leading to the altercation.

Flair doubled down that he loves that Punk felt strongly enough to speak up on the situation, but was reluctant to take sides in the end, as he has had nothing but pleasant experiences with Omega and The Young Bucks.

“There’s two kinds of brawls. There’s one where a guy will start a fight because he knows it’s gonna get broken up because there’s so many people around. I would think this is probably the situation with these guys.

“It’s not like they’re walking into the dressing room to talk to Harley Race or Blackjack [Mulligan]. That would take a lot of thinking and talking and walking to talk to Harley Race about something they didn’t like as an individual.

“The fact that Punk said, ‘I’m in the building if you want to find me,’ or something like that, I like that. It’s probably not what Tony [Khan] or anybody wants to hear, but if he has the courage to say that and he feels that strongly about somebody, then I don’t blame him for saying it.

“I like Omega and I like the Young Bucks. They seem like really easy guys to get along with, but I don’t know them that well. For me, it’s how they treat me as an individual, and they treat me great.

“I was able to be around Kenny when he wrestled [Andrade] in Mexico, and the Young Bucks have been awesome, so I don’t know. CM Punk, I don’t know him. But he said it.”

Details On AEW’s Jon Moxley Plans Changing After CM Punk/The Elite Altercation

The fallout from CM Punk’s backstage altercation with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks has led to significant changes to future AEW storylines. Jon Moxley is among the wrestlers whose creative plans have been thrown into disarray.

Moxley lost the AEW World Title to Punk in the main event of Sunday’s All Out pay-per-view. However, after the backstage incident between Punk and Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, things were forced to change in a major way.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, there was a longterm storyline in the works for Moxley that had nothing to do with the championship. He was also approved to take time off, as as he alluded to during his promo on Dynamite, when he said he was supposed to be on vacation this week.

As a result of the ongoing investigation into the backstage melee at All Out (and subsequent suspensions that have been levied), AEW President Tony Khan called upon Moxley and Jericho to work Dynamite on short notice.

Another talent meeting that was held prior to Dynamite to address uneasiness in the locker room. Locker room veterans Moxley, Jericho and Bryan Danielson preached unity and reinforced the positive aspects of what has made AEW such a desirable place to work up until recently.

CM Punk Needs Surgery, Will Be Out 6 to 9 Months

CM Punk will not be returning to All Elite Wrestling any time soon, if ever. Punk was on top of the world after defeating Jon Moxley to reclaim the AEW World Championship in the main event of Sunday’s All Out pay-per-view from Chicago. It would all come crashing down soon after that.

Aside from all the drama resulting in his post-show media scrum appearance, SEScoops has learned that Punk was injured during his match against Moxley. He’ll require surgery which will keep the 2-time AEW World Champion out of action for the remainder of the year.

Six to Nine Months

Punk tore a muscle in his arm after hitting a tope suicida (suicide dive) on Moxley mid-way through the bout, as first reported by Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. It’s unclear if the injury affects his triceps, biceps, or pectoral muscle, but he’s expected to miss 6-9 months of ring time.

Meltzer added that Punk’s injury and guaranteed layoff time made Tony Khan’s decision to strip him of the AEW world title a no-brainer. It’s possible that Khan will decide Punk is not worth the trouble he brings.

“Punk’s out for eight months, or whatever it’s going to be, six months/eight months, whatever. If he’s not let go, and a lot of people don’t want him back.”

Dave Meltzer.

The Fight

Punk has been stripped of the AEW World Championship, in part due to his comments at the All Out media scrum and his participation in the backstage fight.

In his report, Meltzer noted that Punk didn’t feel respected, as his philosophy when it comes to wrestling differs from how the Elite do things.

Meltzer said that Ace Steel’s side of the story is that he grabbed and bit Kenny Omega, because Omega was trying to pull CM Punk off of Nick Jackson.

Steel also mentioned wanting to protect his wife, who was also in the room at the time.

AEW Held Another Talent Meeting Before this week’s Dynamite

Last night’s AEW Dynamite was the first show since All Out 2022, and the first after what happened following the Pay Per View.

During the post-All Out media scrum, CM Punk had explosive comments about AEW EVPs Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, as well as Colt Cabana and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page.

Backstage, Punk and his trainer Ace Steel engaged in a fight with Omega and the Bucks.

Talent Meeting

With AEW under scrutiny, a talent-wide meeting was held prior to last night’s episode of Dynamite.

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful reports that Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson, and Jon Moxley led the meeting, which included wrestlers, referees, coaches, and announcers.

It was reported that Chris Jericho has been commended by the talent for his professionalism and demeanor following the CM Punk/Elite controversy.

This meeting comes weeks after an AEW talent meeting last month to address reports of issues within the company.

What’s next?

During this week’s AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan confirmed that CM Punk has been stripped of the AEW World Championship and that the Elite have been stripped of the AEW Trios Tag Team Championships.

The Death Triangle won the vacant AEW Trios Tag Titles during Dynamite with a win over Best Friends and Orange Cassidy.

A new AEW World Champion will be crowned at the Grand Slam Dynamite on September 21.

CM Punk is also reported to be out with an injury that he suffered during his world championship win over Jon Moxley at All Out.

There’s no word on when Punk is expected to return to AEW TV if he is not fired.

CM Punk Sustained Serious Injury at All Out, Status for AEW Dynamite

At AEW All Out 2022, CM Punk captured his second AEW World Championship, dethroning Jon Moxley in their rematch.

Punk’s win has been overshadowed by what happened after All Out, as he had fiery comments for Kenny Omega, the Young Bucks, Colt Cabana, and ‘Hangman’ Adam Page in the post-show media scrum.

A fight broke out pitting Punk and trainer Ace Steel against Omega and the Bucks, which has reportedly led to suspensions for all involved.

Injured

CM Punk match may have been overshadowed by his actions out of the ring, but the AEW World Champion isn’t just facing a possible firing from the company.

Dave Meltzer reports that Punk is injured, which is believed to have happened after hitting a tope suicida during his All Out main event with Moxley.

It had been rumored since Sunday that Punk may have been injured in the match.

Meltzer added that no matter what punishment Punk receives for his role in the media scrum fight, the AEW World Championship situation will be addressed on tonight’s Dynamite.

Punk is reported to be at home in Chicago, and is not scheduled to appear at tonight’s AEW Dynamite in Buffalo, New York.

Change of Plans

Addressing a CM Punk injury is just the latest change of plans made for tonight’s AEW Dynamite.

With reports that everyone involved in the fight after All Out is suspended, Tony Khan has had to book multiple last-minute appearances.

It was reported earlier today that Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley are set to appear on Dynamite, despite not previously being advertised for the show.

In a tweet, AEW confirmed Jericho’s participation in tonight’s show, saying he will address the ‘AEW Galaxy.’

R Truth Explains His ‘Clap Back’ Against CM Punk

R Truth has explained his ‘clap back’ against CM Punk over the former WWE champion’s remarks about their old match.

The wrestling veteran recently appeared on Premiere Live TV. He talked about things such as his childhood hero John Cena, his music career and more.

Speaking about his exchange with CM Punk over their match at Vengeance 2011, Truth claimed that he has no beef with the AEW champion:

“I’m still me at the end of the day. You don’t say no bullshit on me and I won’t come back. I am a clap backer. It depends. Sometimes I ignore shit, but I will clap back.

We cool. No beef with me and Punk.” claimed R Truth, “Me and Miz beat him because we were hotter than him at the time. Punk has gotten his push and all that shit, but we were hotter than him at the time. No beef,”

CM Punk teamed with Triple H to face Truth and The Miz in a tag match at Vengeance 2011. To many people’s surprise the team of Punk and H lost this bout.

In his infamous appearance at Colt Cabana’s Art of Wrestling podcast, Punk had questioned this booking decision. R Truth had later responded to the AEW star saying that they were hotter than Punk at the time.

Eric Bischoff: CM Punk Disrespected Tony Khan At Media Scrum

Former WCW president Eric Bischoff believes CM Punk disrespected All Elite Wrestling (AEW) president Tony Khan with his recent media scrum comments.

Recently, CM Punk reportedly got into a physical altercation with The Young Bucks backstage at All Out. The backstage drama that has been going on within AEW has caused quite a stir within the professional wrestling community.

Shortly after the All Out pay-per-view (PPV), where Punk recaptured the AEW World Title, Punk made some harsh comments towards AEW EVPs Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks, firing back at what he feels has been disrespectful rhetoric towards him as of late.

These comments seemingly fueled The Elite to confront Punk in his locker room afterwards, sparking the altercation.

Speaking on a bonus clip from Ad Free Shows recently, Eric Bischoff offered his take on the entire situation.

Bischoff believes Punk was very disrespectful to Tony Khan, who was seated next to the AEW World Champion the entire time, with his media scrum rant.

“He’s paying that cat lots of money,” Bischoff said. “He’s paying CM Punk a fortune and CM Punk is cutting his balls off, not only in front of everybody else in the roster, the executive team, the production team, oh, by the way, his business partners, you know, like Warner Discovery, potential advertisers, potential sponsors, maybe even if need be, a potential network to sell their show to should something go wrong with the Warner Discovery merger. For what reason?”

Punk Press

The former WCW president did admit that, if this was all a part of an elaborate storyline, he’d be fully behind the idea. However, if this is truly Punk airing out dirty laundry publicly, he feels bad for Khan.

“If there was money in it, if it was part of a story, and everybody I just mentioned including TV partners are on board and understand what you’re doing, have had it man. It could work. I’ll be your biggest fan.

“I’ll support taking a risk like that because you have to take big risks to gain big rewards. You just do.

“Not all of them work out, but you gotta try, and if that’s what they’re doing, hats off if everybody’s on board, but if Punk is just venting his spleen, spreading the heat around the entire roster, instead of focusing on his opponent which is business, man, I feel bad for Tony.”

Ex-AEW Star Challenges CM Punk To Shoot Fight

A former AEW star is calling out CM Punk for a shoot fight.

During a recent interview with The Undisputed Podcast, former AEW star Bobby Fish called for a competitive fight against CM Punk.

Fish isn’t very concerned with what the rules are, as he’s willing to fight Punk in boxing, kickboxing, or mixed martial arts (MMA).

“Let’s just make this a formal invitation to Phil [CM Punk]. Yeah, I’m down. If that’s the direction he wants to go and I mean, he could pick the time, the place, we can do it in Chicago. Yeah, that would be kind of fun, right? It can be boxing, it could be kickboxing, it can be MMA.

“I mean sh*t, we can do this bareknuckle. Whatever sounds good to Phil. He can pick the weight, he can pick the place like I said. I mean whatever he wants to do but yeah, let’s make it official. Like come on Phil [Fish chuckled].”

The topic of Punk getting into a physical altercation with The Young Bucks was brought up. Fish noted that, although the dirt sheets claim Punk was throwing “haymakers,” he doubts Punk was throwing any kicks, calling Punk’s kicks “atrocious.”

“Oh, they are atrocious [Fish described Punk’s kicks]. Well, you said what you heard on the sheets was that he came out throwing haymakers. He didn’t come out throwing kicks, because he ain’t hitting anybody with those [Fish laughed].”

CM Punk

Fish claims that during his time in AEW he actually tried to get AEW president Tony Khan to give him permission to do a fight several times.

Of course, he had no success on that front. Now, he’s hoping he can land a fight with Punk, who, for the time being, is under contract with AEW.

“So truth be told, since May, I have tried to get Tony Khan to sit down with me no less than five times to ask permission to do a kickboxing fight.

“It was actually something that I talked to other people in the company about but I could never nail Tony down and in Tony’s defense, he’s a busy man, especially on TV days, it is what it is but I wanted permission to do a fight and I couldn’t get there with Tony so now, it’s no secret, I don’t need anyone’s permission at this point so yeah, let’s make this sh*t official Phil… I’ll do you one better. Phil, let’s f*cking go! [Fish laughed] I think that’s how someone else would say it.”

AEW Personality Expected to Lose Job Over All Out Media Scrum Fight

Sunday’s All Out pay-per-view was another successful outing for AEW. The matches were well-received, we’ve got a new AEW World Champion (CM Punk) and MJF made his highly anticipated return.

Unfortunately, the events that transpired after the show went off the air have been overshadowing AEW’s latest event.

During the post-show media scrum, new AEW World Champion CM Punk lashed out at Colt Cabana and Hangman Page, who he called an “empty-headed f**cking dumb f***.” Punk also trashed AEW’s Executive Vice Presidents (Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks), who he said are incapable of managing a Target retail store.

Punk said once again, if you have a problem with him, he’s not hard to find. His locker room door is always open. Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks took this message to heart. They were waiting for Punk in his locker room after Punk finished ranting at the media scrum.

The Fallout

We know a physical altercation occurred involving CM Punk, AEW producer Ace Steel, Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. Details are still coming out, as it relates to escalated the situation to the point of violence.

Punches (and a chair) were thrown, hair was pulled and there’s even been reports that Ace Steel bit Kenny Omega. Nick Jackson was seen with a black eye after the melee. The situation is a complete mess and you can be sure consequences will be levied very soon.

AEW has yet comment publicly on what transpired, but we can report that Ace Steel is not expected to stay with the company due to his conduct. Steel has been working as a producer for AEW since earlier this year. Last week on Dynamite, he played a key role in CM Punk agreeing to wrestle Jon Moxley at All Out.

Additionally, we’re told several AEW personnel who were in the room for the altercation have been suspended. For more on this developing story:

Wrestlers React to CM Punk AEW All Out Madness

CM Punk didn’t just make headlines for his latest victory inside of the squared circle at AEW All Out, but mostly for what he did at the post-show media scrum.

Punk defeated Jon Moxley in the show’s main event to become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

At the media scrum, he dismissed speculation that he had anything to do with Colt Cabana not being used on AEW programming and noted that he couldn’t care less about his former friend.

He ripped Hangman Page for his comments during a promo earlier this year on an episode of Dynamite heading into Double Or Nothing, where he won the World Title for the first time. More importantly, he stated that the AEW EVPs (Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks) couldn’t run a Target store.

John Cena also tweeted out the following, although it’s unclear whether it had anything to do with Punk:

As previously reported, Punk got into a backstage altercation with Omega and The Young Bucks that got physical. A real-life tag team match broke out during the media scrum after Punk said that if anyone had a problem with him, to do so to his face. And that’s exactly what happened.

More Details on CM Punk’s Fight With Young Bucks & Kenny Omega at AEW All Out

More information continues to emerge regarding the fight involving CM Punk during the AEW All Out media scrum.

Fightful previously noted Punk allegedly started things by throwing punches at Matt Jackson. The Wrestling Observer confirmed this and noted Punk’s trainer/friend Ace Steel was allegedly involved as he reportedly threw a chair that hit Nick Jackson in the eye. Kenny Omega was involved with Steel, who was “grabbing his hair and biting him.”

Steel, who appeared last week on Dynamite works backstage as a Producer for the company. There has been no public comment from anyone involved.

Fallout

CM Punk All Out

The Wrestling Observer website wrote: “As of this writing, no one involved, nor AEW, has commented publicly about the alleged incident, part of which is due to potential legal issues.”

The incident happened while Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee were answering questions from the media as there was a security guard seen running out of the room as they were talking.

Punk won the AEW World Heavyweight Title from Jon Moxley in the main event of All Out and is slated to feud with MJF.  Omega and The Young Bucks are the Trios Champions at All Out.

Backstage Chaos Following CM Punk’s Explosive Comments at AEW All Out Media Scrum (Updated)

CM Punk won the AEW World Championship for a second time by defeating Jon Moxley in the main event of Sunday’s AEW All Out pay-per-view.

Punk appeared at the post-All Out media scrum and had some harsh words for Colt Cabana and some of AEW’s top stars. Punk also blasted AEW’s Executive Vice Presidents (Young Bucks and Kenny Omega), accusing them of “spreading lies and bullsh*t” and claiming they “couldn’t f*cking manage a Target.”

Punk also took some shots at Hangman Adam Page, who he called “an empty-headed f*cking dumb f*ck.”

Backstage Melee

Punk’s remarks about Colt Cabana, Hangman Page and AEW’s Executive Vice Presidents led to chaos backstage at the Now Center.

After Punk finished speaking, a “melee” broke out between Punk and the Young Bucks. Bryan Alvarez, who was in attendance for the scrum, stated on Wrestling Observer Radio that there was an “altercation” that saw security rushing to restore order.

AEW President Tony Khan was completely unaware of what was happening, because he was participating in the scrum and did not have his phone on him (and nobody pulled him aside to inform him).

Fightful reports that Punk has significant heat with the locker room after his comments. Omega and the Bucks said to be furious about his comments. It’s reported that at least one of them threatened to walk out of the company due to what was said.

The Elite had been scheduled to speak at the media scrum, but decided against speaking after Punk’s comments.

CM Punk Goes Off on AEW EVPs, Colt Cabana, and Hangman Adam Page After All Out

Jon Moxley defended the AEW Championship against CM Punk in the main event of All Out. The event took place in Chicago at the NOW Arena.

Moxley busted Punk open, hit him with the Deathrider, and got him in the Bulldog Choke several times but the challenger wouldn’t stay down. In the end, Punk hit his 2nd GTS of the match for the pinfall victory and captured the AEW Championship once again.

Earlier on the show, a bunch of masked men interfered in the Casino Ladder Match. It was revealed to be the Stokely Hathaway, Gunn Club, W. Morrissey behind the attack. The Joker came to the ring in a devil’s mask and grabbed the chip suspended above the ring.

It was later revealed that MJF was The Joker and he played a “voicemail” from Tony Khan claiming that he increased his pay without a contract extension. MJF stared down CM Punk and flipped the Chicago crowd off to close the show. The audience in the NOW Arena were loudly chanting “MJF!” as Punk posed with the title in the ring.

CM Punk Goes Off On EVPs, Colt Cabana, and Hangman Adam Page During AEW All Out Media Scrum

After AEW All Out went off the air, AEW Champion CM Punk joined Tony Khan for a press conference. Right off the bat, the champ was asked about Colt Cabana, known as Scott Colton in real life and Punk got heated. There have been rumors that Punk wanted Colt gone after he was removed from the Dark Order without explanation.

The AEW Champion said he hasn’t had anything to do with Scott in over a decade and is annoyed that he has to speak about the matter on his time.

This is a f*cking business. I’m a grown-ass adult man and why I decide to not be friends with somebody is nobody’s f*cking business. But my friends, if I fall backwards, will catch me. Scott Colton, I felt, never would have. My problem was that I wanted to bring a guy to the top that did not want to see me at the top.

The AEW Champion continued:

“You can call it jealousy, you can call it envy. Whatever the f*ck it is. My relationship with Scott Colton ended long before I paid all of his bills. I have every receipt. I have every invoice. I have every email. I have an email where he says, and I quote “I agree to go our own separate ways, I will get my own lawyer and you do not have to pay anymore”.

That is an email that I have and the only reason the public did not see is because when I finally had to countersue him through discovery, we discovered that he shared a bank account with his mother. That’s a fact. And as soon as we discovered that fact and we subpoenaed old Marsha, he sent the email “oh can we please drop all of this?”, said Punk.

CM Punk then turned his attention to the EVPs at AEW (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) and claimed that they couldn’t manage a Target department store:

Now, it is 2022. I haven’t been friends with this guy since at least 2014 or 13, and the fact that I have to sit up here because we have irresponsible people that call themselves EVPs and couldn’t f*cking manage a Target, and they spread lies, and bullsh*t, and put into the media that I got somebody fired, when I have f*ck all to do with him. I want nothing to do with him.

“I do not care where he works, where he doesn’t work, where he eats, or where he sleeps. And the fact that I have to get up here and do this in 2022 is f*cking embarrassing. If y’all are at fault, f*ck you. If not, I apologize”.

The AEW Champion then brought up Hangman Page once again. Hangman mentioned Punk doing the opposite for “workers rights” in a promo ahead of their title match at Double or Nothing. CM Punk gave Hangman a “receipt” during an episode of Dynamite in Hangman’s home state of West Virginia. Punk called Hangman out and referred to him as a coward during the unscripted moment.

But what did I ever do in this world to deserve an empty-headed f*cking dumb f*ck like Hangman Adam Page to go out on national television, and f*cking go into business for himself? For what? What did I do, Dave (Meltzer)? What did I ever do? I didn’t do a goddamn thing.

“It is not (Tony Khan) position to make it very f*cking clear. There are people who call themselves EVPs that should have f*cking known better. I’m trying to run a f*cking business, and when somebody who has not done a damn thing in this business jeopardizes the first million-dollar house that this company has ever drawn, off of my back, and goes on national television and does that, it’s a disgrace to this industry, it is a disgrace to this company.

We are far beyond apologies. I gave him a f*cking chance and it didn’t get handled. And you saw what I had to do,which is very regrettable. Lowering myself to his f*cking level, but that is where we are at right now. And I will still walk up and down this hallway and say “If you have a f*cking problem with me…take it up with me. Let’s f*cking go.”

MJF Returns, CM Punk Wins AEW World Title at All Out

All Elite Wrestling ran it back between Jon Moxley and CM Punk at Sunday’s AEW All Out pay-per-view event. However, it was the return of MJF, who left people talking.

The match saw Punk come out strong as he hit his signature moves, including the GTS for a near fall. Moxley sent him into the ring post and Punk was bleeding. Punk went for an elbow drop off the top rope, but Moxley moved and put him in a sleeper. Punk went for the GTS, but it was blocked and Moxley hit the death driver for 2. It all ended when Punk hit the GTS twice.

MJF is Back

Post-match, the lights went out and we hear a voicemail made by Tony Khan offering MJF a spot in the casino ladder match. We see a video of an old Punk promo then the reveal of the mystery joker as MJF, who got a monster pop. MJF flipped off the fans.

Earlier in the night, a mystery man with the help of Stokely Hathaway, won the Casino Ladder Match, guaranteeing him a title match. MJF has been away since the post-Double Or Nothing episode of Dynamite where he cut a memorable promo and demanded that Tony Khan fire him.

Their first match came on the August 24th edition of Dynamite when Punk ended up being squashed by Moxley in the AEW World Title unification match. Punk went down and held the foot that he injured a few months ago. Punk took two Death Riders from Moxley and then was pinned. The match lasted over three minutes.

It was later reported that Moxley didn’t like the original plans for the pay-per-view and he pitched what happened in their first match. He was also reportedly not a fan of the interim title idea.

Punk originally won the AEW World Heavyweight Championshipfrom Hangman Adam Page at Double or Nothing in May, but was sidelined with a foot injury shortly after winning the title.

Moxley became the interim champion at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view event when he beat NJPW’s Hiroshi Tanahashi.
