Report: CM Punk Working On WWE Backstage Is A “Done Deal”

CM Punk working with WWE seemed like an impossible thing just a few weeks ago but things have changed drastically and now it appears that the former Champion may actually be affiliated with the company once again very soon.

The reports of Punk’s agents reaching out for WWE Backstage hosting gig first came out in late August and later last month, the former World Champion confirmed that he had a tryout for the show which went very well.

Now @fightoracle which has a track record of breaking wrestling-tv related news is reporting that the former World Champion signing with Fox for the upcoming studio show on F1S is a “done deal.”

It’s unknown what CM Punk will be doing at the show but he has signed as a commentator. It has been reported previously that Fox has tried several different variations for the program featuring booths of up to 5 people.

Both Renee Young and Booker T are expected to be regulars on the show with other legends being brought in according to the needs, but it would make more sense to feature someone like Punk in a more prominent role.

WWE backstage will premiere on F1S at 11pm ET on Tuesday, November 5 with Renee Young and WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T as the hosts.

Triple H Addresses CM Punk’s WWE Backstage Tryout, Possible Return

Triple H recently appeared on the Sports Illustrated Podcast where he talked about a wide range of topics including CM Punk possibly working on the WWE Backstage show for FS1.

Triple H stated that he read about the reports and made it clear that Fox is doing the show where they to have personalities talk about the WWE Universe and everything going on in it.

Triple H brought up how Fox had a long list of people they’ve been interviewing and everything.

“As far as for us, one of the things I think this company has shown over and over again, is never say never. If the opportunity is right for everybody and it’s right for our fans, then we are willing to put the past behind us and move forward. So, I would say, never say never, but that’s also probably a long way from coming to. I don’t know. That’s also a little bit outside of my purview at the moment, but like I said, never say never.”

CM Punk Confirms Tryout For WWE Backstage Show, Talks Whether He’s Heard From WWE

As noted, Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE has the impression that Punk wants to be back with the company but the two sides have yet to talk.

WWE Backstage, which is a weekly hour-long studio show, is coming to FS1 starting Tuesday, November 5th and will be hosted by Renee Young and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T.

CM Punk Confirms Tryout For WWE Backstage Show, Talks Whether He’s Heard From WWE

CM Punk made an appearance on Wednesday’s Collider Live podcast to promote Girl On The Third Floor and during that appearance, he discussed his recent tryout with Fox for the WWE Backstage studio show.

This is where he confirmed the tryout as his agents reached out to him because of how much Fox is investing in WWE with SmackDown.

This is where he noted that he hasn’t spoken with anyone from WWE regarding this process as Fox is interested in him. He did state that he has not heard anything from WWE after the tryout.

He praised  Renee Young and stated that this potential role would be similar to what he does for CFFC MMA (commentary) that airs on UFC Fight Pass.

Punk brought up how he told Fox that he wasn’t going to come on the show and dump on the product but rather tell them his honest belief including if something is bad and he would have to be honest about it.

Punk didn’t mention where the process is at or how the tryout went but did make it clear that he’s not interested in returning to the ring.

Instead, he’s in a position where he’s open to anything other than wrestling. The reason for that is due to him growing as a person and is a businessman.

Update On CM Punk’s Tryout For WWE Backstage

CM Punk Addresses ‘WWE Backstage’ Rumors

CM Punk called in to 106.7 KROQ FM on Tuesday to promote his new horror movie, Girl on the Third Floor. During the appearance, the 40-year old wrestler turned actor addressed rumors that he is in talks to be part of the WWE Backstage studio show on FS1 beginning in November.

“You mean to tell me you’d watch a show where I talk about wrestling?” Punk joked during the show. He would continue to say the story has taken on a life of its own.

Punk is reported to have auditioned recently for a hosting gig alongside Renee Young on the show. According to a recent report from Wrestling Observer Radio, Punk’s audition went well and he is expected to receive some type of offer.

CM Punk Teases Smackdown Appearance

CM Punk would not directly address the situation with WWE Backstage on the radio today but did comment on possibly being on the Smackdown premiere on Fox this Friday. Punk noted that the Rock will be on the show and the last time the Rock was at Staples Center (venue of this Friday’s Smackdown) is when Rock famously called Punk during a dark segment.

“I enjoy The Rock, I do,” he said. “And I’m not trying to put this out… gee, hopefully people don’t do this, but do you remember the last time The Rock was in the Staples Center?”

“Let’s do it again. When is this show, next Friday? Dwayne, call me Friday,” Punk said.

CM Punk was also asked during the show about possibly writing an autobiography someday:

“It’s a possibility. After I shed these frivolous lawsuits and come out victorious in both, I realized I do have a lot of stories that are fairly ridiculous, that I think the public should probably read.”

CM Punk And Colt Cabana’s Lawsuit Settled

The CM Punk vs. Colt Cabana lawsuit is reportedly settled.

According to David Bixenspan of Forbes, an update on the docket for the lawsuit read “DISMISS BY STIPULATION OR AGREEMENT” which has been seemingly initiated by Punk. On Sunday, it was confirmed by Carey Stein, who is Cabana’s lawyer that the lawsuits had been settled.

According to PWInsider, both CM Punk and Colt Cabana filed for the dismissal of the case, with prejudice. However, there was no financial settlement and both parties agreed to drop their cases. With prejudice is a legal term meaning that both parties will not be able to refile the case against each other over this issue.

Cabana and Punk have been involved in this legal battle since August of 2018. Cabana sued Punk for $1.2 million for breach of contract as Punk had promised to cover all of Cabana’s legal costs related to the defamation suit filed against them by WWE doctor Chris Amann over the now infamous Art of Wrestling podcast episode.

Cabana’s suit was dismissed but he was allowed to refile, and he did multiple times. Punk filed a countersuit against Cabana this June claiming he was owed $600,000 which is half of their legal fees he spent on the Amman case. Punk also noted that the Art of Wrestling podcast episode was popular and had been monetized by Cabana, but Punk was never compensated for his appearance.

Now that the dust has settled, it still doesn’t look like their friendship will be doing too well judging by the tweets Punk made:

Update On CM Punk’s Tryout For WWE Backstage

CM Punk is reported to have auditioned recently for the upcoming WWE Backstage show set to premiere on FS1 beginning Tuesday, November 5th. According to a recent report from Wrestling Observer Radio, Punk is expected to receive some type of offer from Fox, though that is not confirmed.

“I guess it went well,” Dave Meltzer said in regard to Punk’s tryout with Fox. “Because the feeling is that he’ll probably get an offer.”

Meltzer would also say that there are people at Fox who read the Wrestling Observer and felt that Punk would be a good fit for the Backstage show.

“It just doesn’t make sense in a lot of ways, I can’t imagine WWE would want it,” Meltzer continued.

AEW Says They’ll Never Work With CM Punk

Also noted during this conversation was that people from AEW are saying they are not willing to work with Punk as a result of comments Punk made in a recent ESPN article.

“Even though AEW has told me they would never work with him – and I believe that they believe that on this day – come February there’s going be somebody if not two sides who want him really bad,” Meltzer said during the show.

“They told me that after the Marc Raimondi article, yeah,” Meltzer confirmed.

“It was pretty much told to me that they felt very disrespected by what he said, and they should have if you know what the real story was, and I can’t go into too much detail but I do know it.”

CM Punk Films Test Material For WWE Backstage

A new report has sparked speculation regarding the status of CM Punk.

It was previously reported that Punk’s representative went to FOX to try to get him as a co-host of the new “WWE Backstage” studio show on FS1. The show will be hosted by Renee Young and WWE Hall of Famer Booker T.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE has an impression that Punk wants to be back with the company but the two sides have yet to talk.

Pwinsider.com then reported that Punk was at FOX Studios earlier this week in Los Angeles to discuss a potential on-air role for the show. While it’s not known what all went down at the meeting, it was noted that Punk did film test material for it and Young was also present for the meeting.

As of this writing, it has not been confirmed that Punk has signed a deal to work on the show.

CM Punk Talks Possible WWE Return, Fans Asking If He’ll Make Comeback

We do know that FOX brought in several WWE and non-WWE personalities this summer to try out for the show including the likes of Taz and WWE Hall of Famer Sean Waltman.

There’s no word yet on what all went down at the meeting, but Punk did do some on-camera testing. Renee was also present for the meeting. Paige and Rey Mysterio were considered.

After dealing with injuries and not wanting to wrestle anymore, Punk decided to walk out of the company on the Monday following the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event in 2014.

CM Punk Thanks Fans & Conrad Thompson For Starrcast

CM Punk was the featured guest at Starrcast this weekend in his hometown of Chicago. Punk was interviewed by Mike Johnson and told stories from his pro-wrestling and acting career alike.

Punk took to Twitter following the event to thank the fans and Conrad Thompson for the experience:

During the interview, Punk mentioned Will Ospreay as someone he’s not sure he would be able to keep up with in the ring. Ospreay responded to a Tweet mentioning the comments and Punk offered up a GIF in response:

CM Punk Interview At Starrcast

Punk was asked if he would talk to WWE if they called during the interview.

“I wouldn’t not talk to them,” Punk said. “On what planet, in what other business does somebody suspend somebody else, and then they don’t come and get them after the suspension. Like, why is it up to me? It’s just a weird situation”

According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Punk’s agents reached out to Fox in regards to potentially co-hosting the FS1 in-studio WWE show set to premiere this fall.

“What we do know that is interesting is that CAA, which represents Punk and also represents WWE, has had an agent reach out to FOX head honchos about Punk as a co-host of the upcoming new FS 1 talk show,” wrote Dave Meltzer.

CM Punk Talks Possible WWE Return, Fans Asking If He’ll Make Comeback

CM Punk took part in a panel at Starrcast III in Chicago on Saturday where he discussed a wide range of topics including what would happen if Vince McMahon or Triple H called him.

“I wouldn’t not talk to them,” Punk said. “On what planet, in what other business does somebody suspend somebody else, and then they don’t come and get them after the suspension. Like, why is it up to me? It’s just a weird situation”

Punk continued by noting that he’s over it and has been for a long time as he considers it in the past. He noted that he’ll have a conversation with anybody but he’s not calling them but he would answer if someone called him.

He added that he thinks he had a pretty good career and nothing left that he needs to accomplish.

CM Punk’s Agent Reportedly Reached Out To Fox About FS1 Hosting Gig

Punk was also asked about fans asking if he plans to make a comeback. He doesn’t think it’s weird but rather a testament to what he’s done in the business, which is cool to him.

Punk noted that he gets asked about a potential return often but he thinks it’s a better question than fans asking when he’s going away.

The former WWE Champion has been heavily rumored to join AEW by fans but no reports have garnered any traction towards that possibility. Time will tell whether Punk ever makes a pro wrestling return.

AEW All Out Predictions

AEW returns to the pay-per-view arena this weekend, as All Elite Wrestling presents their ALL OUT event from the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois on Saturday, August 31st.

The show will feature the crowning of the inaugural AEW World Champion and the unveiling of the AEW Women’s World Championship belt.

In the headline spot for Saturday’s highly-anticipated event is Chris Jericho vs. “Hangman” Adam Page in one-on-one action to determine the first-ever World Champion in AEW history.

Supporting the main event at ALL OUT will be Kenny Omega squaring off against late-replacement PAC.

PAC, formerly known as Neville during his WWE days, fills in on short-notice for Jon Moxley after the former WWE Superstar known as Dean Ambrose came down with a vicious bout of MRSA in his elbow.

Closer Look At AEW ALL OUT Undercard

Also on tap for AEW ALL OUT main card this weekend is Cody vs. Shawn Spears, The Lucha Bros vs. The Young Bucks in a Ladder Match for the AAA Tag-Team Championships and The Dark Order vs. Best Friends with the winning team earning a bye in the first-round of the AEW World Tag-Team Championship Tournament.

Additionally, Darby Allin vs. Joey Janela vs. Jimmy Havoc in the “Cracker Barrel Clash,” Riho vs. Hikaru Shida in women’s action and a six-man tag-team match pitting Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt vs. SoCal Uncensored is advertised for the card.

AEW ALL OUT “Buy-In” Pre-Show & Round Table Notes

AEW ALL OUT will also feature a “Buy-In” pre-show.

The show leading into the main card currently features two advertised matches — Private Party vs. Angelico & Jack Evans and the 21-Woman Casino Battle Royale with the winner advancing to the inaugural AEW Women’s World Championship bout on the debut episode of AEW On TNT on Wednesday, October 2nd.

As is the case before every major pay-per-view event, SEScoops.com compiles a handful of pro wrestling journalists to provide their in-depth insight and analysis into each match scheduled on the card in our SEScoops.com Predictions Roundtable feature.

Joining us for this AEW ALL OUT installment will be veteran staff writers Ian Carey, Andrew Ravens and Jeff Moss.

Without further adieu, let’s take a look at our official AEW ALL OUT Predictions.

21-Woman Casino Battle Royale (Pre-Show)

Ian Carey: This is tough, especially considering we don’t know all the participants. Awesome Kong seems like the safest pick, however. She’s popular, she looks larger than life, and she’s a key character on a hit Netflix series which just released its newest season. Expect many talented wrestlers to get some time to shine in this match but in the end, Kong has to be the favorite, though how likely it is she’ll win is not clear. (Prediction: Awesome Kong)

Andrew Ravens: AEW has done a great job of loading up this battle royal with some fun names. It’s no secret that I am a big fan of Britt Baker although I don’t see her winning this match despite the fact that she could be the real star of this division. It’s a battle royal so expectations should be kept low. I have Nyla Rose being an upset winner. (Prediction: Nyla Rose)

Jeff Moss: Like the Male version of the Casino Battle Royal, this one is hard to call because we don’t know everyone in the match. I’d have to say that of the announced participants, Brandi Rhodes would be a front runner in that I feel like she should be in the October 2nd match for the Women’s Title in some way. Jazz, Ivelisse and Britt Baker all make perfect sense as winners as well. Given that I don’t know how the other participant(s) of the Oct 2nd match will be determined, I suspect it’s an unannounced entry that wins here. (Prediction: Unannounced Entry)

CONSENSUS: 1-Awesome Kong, 1-Nyla Rose, 1-???

Private Party vs. Angelico & Jack Evans (Pre-Show)

Ian: I think Angelico and Evans will win the match but the commentary team will focus on how much potential Private Party has. Evans and Angelico are an established team and Jack Evans on the mic can keep them heels in any situation. I expect Evans and Angelico to get the crowd against them and then cheat to win, building sympathy for Private Party. (Predictions: Angelico & Jack Evans)

Andrew: Private Party all the way. Evans and Angelico are a fun tag team but I see more potential in Private Party as a top tag team under the AEW banner. Private Party should be booked as near the top of the division. Thus, Private Party goes over. (Prediction: Private Party)

Jeff: I love watching Angélico and Jack Evans work, so I’m pretty stoked for this match. That said, aside from getting a bit of momentum (Copyright & Trademark WWE) heading into TV, the winners of this match are pretty inconsequential. So with that in mind, I’ll take Angélico and Jack Evans. (Prediction: Angelico & Jack Evans)

CONSENSUS: 2-1, Angelico & Jack Evans

Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt vs. SoCal Uncensored

Ian: SCU will get the win in this fun trios match which will likely have a lot of comedy in it. If you notice, we’ve got no librarians and no Michael Nakazawa on the preshow here so I expect AEW to get all their silliness out in this match. Despite his popularity, I’m expecting Marko Stunt to eat the pin in this match as AEW attempts to build SCU into one of their top tag teams. With the tag tournament coming up, Stunt likely will be the 3rd man out from the A Boy and his Dinosaur team, which makes him taking the pin in this match the most likely result. (Predictions: SoCal Uncensored)

Andrew: With this being such a late short notice match, this has a ton of potential to be a really fun match and one that I am looking forward to seeing. Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy, and Marko Stunt have been on the independent scene for a few years now but are unknown to the masses. That changed at the last AEW show and they put on one heck of a match. I expect nothing less. With that being said, it’s a pick em so I have SCU getting the win. (Prediction: SoCal Uncensored)

Jeff: Jungle Boy. I’m going to pick Jungle Boy in every match he’s in until it pays off. I love that guy. SCU are an awesome team and have proven so in a million matches, but Jungle Boy RIDES TO THE RING ON A LUCHASAURUS WHO’S ALSO HIS PARTNER. (Prediction: Luchasaurus, Jungle Boy & Marko Stunt)

CONSENSUS: 2-1, SoCal Uncensored

Riho vs. Hikaru Shida

Ian: The winner of this match will face the winner of the Casino Battle Royale on October 2nd for the AEW Women’s Championship. Riho’s stock with the company seems like it’s higher than Shida’s. Riho is Omega’s former tag partner in DDT and seems to be someone AEW wants to feature in their Joshi matches. The winner here will really depend on who wins the Casino Battle Royale, however. (Prediction: Riho)

Andrew: This should be a solid match but I don’t think AEW has done a great job of explaining the back stories of these two stars. Personally, and I think a lot of people would agree with this, but I have no interest right now in seeing this contest. It’s just a match on the card. In a real pick em, Riho goes over. (Prediction: Riho)

Jeff: These are two wrestlers who will definitely wrestle a wrestling match that will be seen by the audience in attendance and on PPV. The winner of the match will for sure be the one who beats their opponent. It will be enjoyed by some, but perhaps not enjoyed by others. Possibly. Beyond that, I got nothing. But I’m told I can’t just put “ ¯_(?)_/¯ ” for my prediction, sooooo…. (Prediction: Hikaru Shida)

CONSENSUS: 2-1, Riho

Darby Allin vs. Jimmy Havoc vs. Joey Janela (Cracker Barrel Clash)

Ian: The Cracker Barrel Clash could be the show-stealer for fans who like plunder and hardcore matches. This is a toss up, honestly but I feel Janela needs the win more than anyone else. Janela could use a win as he’s lost in every match he’s had in AEW so far. Jimmy Havoc seems like he could lose every match and it wouldn’t impact him much so I don’t expect him to win. Darby Allin could use a win but his draw against Cody was basically that. I’m picking Janela here but wouldn’t be surprised to see Allin win this either. (Prediction: Joey Janela)

Andrew: Well isn’t this a pick em match. I don’t see how Havoc winning will do anything so it comes down to Allin and Janela. Both guys have so much potential and either could win here but I think AEW has more stock in Janela right now although I think Allin will be the bigger star among them. (Prediction: Joey Janela)

Jeff: (I will NOT call it a Cracker Barrel Clash… unless it’s IN a Cracker Barrel). Should be a good one as all three men are known for doing whatever it takes to win. I’m pretty into the idea of three guys being mad at each other about losing a wrestling match settling it with another wrestling match (Jesus, has watching WWE for so long actually made that concept something NOVEL in wrestling?) and it should get the crowd whipped into a frenzy. I have no idea why, but my guy is telling me Jimmy Havoc ends up with the win. (Prediction: Jimmy Havoc)

CONSENSUS: 2-1-0, Joey Janela

Shawn Spears vs. Cody

Ian: Spears needs the win more than Cody does. We’ve watched Spears as Tye Dillinger lose and lose and lose again in other promotions, it wouldn’t make sense for him to drop his first single’s match in a new promotion. Cody can lose, Cody’s fairly untouchable. Spears needs a little boost right now. Receiving Tully Blanchard as a manager is a good start to his push and beating Cody will help even further. (Prediction: Shawn Spears)

Andrew: Rhodes is the bigger star and the babyface going into this match. With history saying that Rhodes should get his revenge on Spears, I think it’s a pretty clear booking decision by AEW. Spears has done a great job of reinventing himself as a heel and could be a solid star going forward. While Rhodes should go over, you can’t rule out a surprise outcome. (Prediction: Cody Rhodes)

Jeff: A grudge match brought on by a devastating chair shot to the head! (I know the story, don’t @ me). Newly-married Spears is coming off a gruelling honeymoon and has the legendary Fifth-Greatest (of the original Four) Horseman in his corner. This’ll be Spear’s biggest match to date since leaving WWE, so I expect him to win here. Cody is an established star, but Spears, even though most of the audience knows him, needs to get a win here to show he’s a force to be reckoned with. (Prediction: Shawn Spears)

CONSENSUS: 2-1, Shawn Spears

Kenny Omega vs. PAC

Ian: Kenny Omega has to win this match. PAC is no longer the Dragon Gate champ and can lose in other promotions again so the issue which impacted Double or Nothing won’t apply here. Omega has a big rivalry with Jon Moxley pending in AEW and it’s unlikely the promotion has him lose in a match with little build-up and no chance of his rival interfering. (Prediction: Kenny Omega)

Andrew: This is one of the hardest picks of the entire card because both guys have big status’ and the promotion will want to keep them looking as strong as possible coming out of this show. I think PAC losing here won’t hurt him as many might think. I also see AEW booking Omega vs. Jericho for the AEW World Title at a later date potentially at their final 2019 PPV event. Thus, Omega should go over. (Prediction: Kenny Omega)

Jeff: Everyone was bummed to hear that Jon Moxley wouldn’t be able to take on Kenny Omega. But if you’re looking for a replacement, PAC ain’t a bad choice! Also not a bad way to debut PAC in AEW. This is the match of the night for me, which is saying a lot since it has had almost no build due to time constraints. As for a winner, I’m going with Kenny Omega. It makes more sense to keep him hot until Mox is able to come back and the two of them can tear up TNT. (Prediction: Kenny Omega)

CONSENSUS: 3-0, Kenny Omega

The Dark Order vs. Best Friends (AEW Tag-Tourney First-Round Bye)

Ian: The Dark Order should take this match and be granted a bye to the second-round of the upcoming tag title tournament. It’s too early for the Dark Order to lose as it does appear AEW wants to build them up as a heel team in the division. Fans know and like the Best Friends but don’t seem as knowledgeable regarding the former Super Smash Bros. It seems unlikely that AEW has them lose straight up here. (Prediction: The Dark Order)

Andrew: Best Friends are a more well-known team compared to The Dark Order. This should be one heck of a match but I see more upside with The Dark Order as AEW is gonna want a babyface vs. heel dynamic in the finals of this tournament. I have The Young Bucks making it to the finals so The Dark Order has to go over here. (Prediction: The Dark Order)

Jeff: Winners receive a first round bye in the AEW World Tag Team Championship tournament. Given how stacked this Tag Team Tournament is going to be, having a bye in the first round is a huge advantage. The Best Friends have really impressed me in their AEW matches, so I’m thinking them taking this one and getting the Bye would be great. After all, these teams could face each other again in the tournament brackets, so let’s give it to the Best Friends and light a fire under the Dark Order. (Prediction: Best Friends)

CONSENSUS: 2-1, The Dark Order

Lucha Bros (C) vs. Young Bucks (AAA Tag-Title Ladder Match)

Ian: To fans who have not been following AAA as well, this rivalry seems incredibly one-sided. The Bucks won at Double or Nothing and Fyter Fest, so if they win again here it’s not going to make the Lucha Bros look like title threats in the upcoming tag team title tournament. The Bucks have yet to lose in AEW but I think All Out is where they take their first L. (Prediction: The Lucha Bros)

Andrew: Their match at Double or Nothing was great and this could be the match that ends up stealing the show. Throw in the fact that this will be a ladder match with some insane moves could prove to be one of the best matches of the year and that’s a bold statement to make. With the AAA titles on the line, I don’t see a reason as to why Young Bucks should hold the titles any longer considering they will be exclusive to AEW. Lucha Brothers go over. (Prediction: The Lucha Bros)

Jeff: This match is going to be a banger! We all know what these guys are capable of, and I’ve loved just about every match they’ve had over the last few months over the AAA Titles. As for this match though, I can’t see the Bucks heading into a weekly TV show with another promotions tag straps (especially with the AEW tag titles as a primary focus as the kick off the TNT show) so I’d expect the Lucha Brothers to retain here, in what is sure to be a great match. (Prediction: The Lucha Bros)

CONSENSUS: 3-0, The Lucha Bros

Chris Jericho vs. “Hangman” Adam Page (AEW World Title)

Ian: AEW is doing their best to make you believe Hangman Page has no chance in this match. On recent shows, he’s been portrayed as injured and barely able to eek out a win over Kip Sabian, somebody many AEW fans have little experience watching. AEW may be doing this so that Page winning is a total shocker or they are doing this so that somehow they can make it believable during the match that Page could win. In the end, they just aren’t going to put that belt on Page yet and maybe not for a few years. That belt is going on Jericho. (Prediction: Chris Jericho)

Andrew: As much as I would like to see Page become the top champion, I don’t think it’s his time and especially going up against the biggest name that AEW has right now. Yes, having a former WWE star be their first champion isn’t the great thing to do but in this situation, it will help them more than hurt them just starting out. Page should be showcased in this match and be a bigger star coming out of it. It’ll be interesting to see how long Jericho stays champion. (Prediction: Chris Jericho)

Jeff: It’s exciting as hell to be in on the ground floor of a World Title that means something again. It reminds me a lot of how the NXT title still feels important in that promotion. This is going to be a straight up fight though, with Jericho somehow still doing the best work of his career and Page able to match him every step of the way. In the end, it makes more sense to me to put the inaugural title on Page. It fits with the “newness” of AEW and gives Jericho a reason to continue heeling it up so excellently. It’ll be weird to have two Wednesday night shows with “Adams” as champions. But I’ll take it. (Prediction: “Hangman” Adam Page)

CONSENSUS: 2-1, Chris Jericho

CM Punk Hypes His Starrcast Appearance (Video)

CM Punk and Starrcast recently published a video hyping Punk’s upcoming appearance at the convention. Punk is in a wrestling ring during the promo and even took a bump.

“I have no idea what I’m going to say,” Punk says in the video. “There’s no script. I’m not following a storyline, I’m coming to hang out with some fans and yes I’ll have a live microphone in my hand, so who knows what’s going to happen? And that’s the thing, every time i have a live microphone in my hand, I never exactly know what it’s going to say and that’s gotten me in trouble. I’m hoping to avoid any kind of trouble come Saturday but you never can tell.”

CM Punk at Starrcast

Punk recently spoke to SI.com about what led to his Starrcast booking.

“They asked if I wanted to do Starrcast. That’s basically it. There’s no mad scientist formula to it,” Punk said. “I hate traveling. I’ve turned down offers to do signings in other places. It turns into a mission to leave town just to do a signing and stuff. I like to take time with everybody and make sure everybody has a good experience.”

Conrad Thompson on CM Punk At Starrcast

Starrcast promoter Conrad Thompson also spoke about Punk’s appearance at Starrcast on Saturday during a recent media call to promote the event.

“There’s a lot people who really miss CM Punk and really identified with his character and persona and took his work personal and it was a special place in their heart and they’re super CM Punk fans and we’re glad they are and we’re glad they’re coming,” Thomspon said on the call. “But at the same time they don’t want to just have the memories, they want to see him go make new ones. And I understand that but ultimately that’s up to him.”

More of Thompson’s comments can be heard in the video below:

The teaser trailer was released several months ago and now it’s time to see the full trailer, which you can watch here:

The synopsis reads like, “Bursting pipes, rotting walls, and unidentifiable slime were not what Don Koch (WWE legend Phil “CM Punk” Brooks) expected when he convinced his wife, Liz (Trieste Kelly Dunn), that he could rehab their new Victorian home himself. Daniel Bryan & Kofi Kingston Hit GTS After CM Punk Chants During Match

Daniel Bryan and Kofi Kingston had an interesting way of handling chants of CM Punk from fans during a recent match.

For years now, fans have been known to chant the name of the former WWE star during matches or segments that they don’t have a ton of interest in seeing.

That was a bit different when WWE held a live event on Saturday night in Lima, Peru at the Jockey Club del Peru.

CM Punk’s Agent Reportedly Reached Out To Fox About FS1 Hosting Gig

In the headliner of the show, Kofi Kingston defeated Daniel Bryan to retain the WWE Title. During the contest, Bryan asked the fans who’s the best, which led to the fans chanting for CM Punk.

This proceeded to have Bryan then hit Punk’s finisher, GTS, twice on Kingston and went for the cover to only get a two count. The crowd asked for a second one, which led to Kingston hitting Bryan with it.

Conrad Thompson Comments On CM Punk at Starrcast III

CM Punk will take part in an on-stage interview at Starrcast later this summer in Chicago. Starrcast promoter Conrad Thompson addressed Punk’s interview at the convention during a media call yesterday.

Conrad Thompson Addresses CM Punk Interview At Starrcast

Thompson made a point to clarify that he did not book CM Punk through AEW. He also said fans expecting Punk to appear at All Out are likely going to be disappointed.

“I want to clarify because I know that there’s lots of speculation out there this was not a piggy back booking, I didn’t book CM Punk through AEW, he’s not going to be at All Out and anyone who has that expectation is probably going to be a little disappointed because that’s not the way my booking happened.”

“He’s in a good spot where he sort of gets to call his next shot whether that’s in or outside of wrestling and I suspect that is the main question that everyone wants to know is ‘What’s next?”

Thompson would also confirm they have chosen someone to conduct the interview with Punk but they have yet to reveal who that person is.

KENTA Says He Wants To Wrestle CM Punk

KENTA (FKA Hideo Itami) recently turned his back on Katsuyori Shibata and joined Bullet Club. He and his new teammates beat down Shibata on the final night of the G1 Climax 29 earlier this month.

KENTA was asked online about a dream match he would like to have. He indicated he wants to wrestle CM Punk one day.

CM Punk and KENTA History

KENTA made the following statement to the Daily Star in 2011 regarding CM Punk using the GTS as his finisher: “Please list him on the wanted list as he stole my move.”

In 2015, Punk and Itami briefly interacted online again over Punk using the GTS.

KENTA On Joining New Japan Pro Wrestling

KENTA joined NJPW earlier this year and took part in the G1 Climax 29 tournament this summer. He spoke to NJPW about his decision to sign with the promotion.

“Now New Japan goes worldwide,” KENTA said. “I want to show my wrestling to the world as KENTA, not Hideo Itami. I want to show my wrestling to the world and New Japan goes worldwide, US, UK, everybody knows New Japan. So, I decided New Japan.”

CM Punk Involved In Altercation With Fan At MMA Event

There was an odd incident last night at the Cage Fury Fighting Championships event at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. CM Punk was working as a commentator at the event and was involved in an altercation of sorts with a fan.

In the following video Punk can be heard telling someone to back up and then the sounds of someone taking their headset off can be heard. The altercation took place following the Christopher Daukaus us vs Danny Holmes fight which ended with an arguably quick stoppage.

“Well, minor situation developing here. There was a gentleman that was right on the back of my broadcast partner here, and looks like he’s potentially being escorted out of the building.”

Punk Tweeted out the following after the event concluded:

CM Punk to Starrcast

Punk will also be at Starrcast later this month. He spoke to SI.com about what led to the booking.

AJ Styles Has Great Reaction To CM Punk Chants, Straight Up Steve Austin Viewership

AJ Styles Reacts To CM Punk Chants During Match

WWE United States Champion AJ Styles had an interesting reaction to fans chanting CM Punk during his most recent match under the WWE banner.

During Monday’s episode of RAW, Styles was wrestling WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins in a non-title match that served as the headliner of the show, which served as the post-SummerSlam episode for the RAW brand.

Styles responded to the chants with a crotch chop that was made famous by DX. You can see it here:

WWE has already confirmed that Styles will share the ring with Braun Strowman on next week’s episode of RAW.

“Straight Up Steve Austin” Viewership

“Straight Up Steve Austin” premiered on the USA Network on Monday night immediately following RAW that featured Rob Riggle as his guest.

The show did good viewership numbers as it pulled in 1.211 million viewers for the first episode.

Steve Austin: “I Can’t Wrestle Anymore, I Don’t Live In The Past”

Sal Vulcano will appear on the second episode while Baker Mayfield will be the guest on the third episode that airs on August 26. There will be seven episodes in the first season of the new television show.

Update On The Elite’s Response To CM Punk’s Comments

CM Punk recently took part in an interview with ESPN. During the interview, he implied that offers he has received from those associated with AEW have been via text message and he doesn’t feel this is a good way to do business.

According to a recent report from Wrestling Observer, Punk’s quotes upset some within AEW.

“Some in AEW were upset about the quotes,” wrote Dave Metlzer. “They felt they were dealing up-front in business with him and felt that when people in the company have asked about Punk coming, they’ve always been honest.”

CM Punk Says He Doesn’t Hate WWE, Speculation He’d Go Back

Punk noted during the interview with ESPN that he doesn’t hate WWE.

“People still have that connotation, like, ‘Oh, he hates WWE.’ And it’s just like, no, I’ve let all that go, and I’ve let all that go so long ago. But there are people that hold on to that. They still think or want me to be who I was. I’m not who I was yesterday. This is my journey, this is my odyssey.”

Based on the above comments Punk made during the interview with ESPN, there are some within AEW who evidently feel Punk could end up back in WWE.

“On the AEW side, there are those who think that, based on this interview, that maybe he’s going to WWE,” Meltzer continued.

Cody noted in a Tweet that he thinks it’s possible Punk ends up back there as well.

Sean Waltman Believes CM Punk Will Show Up In AEW

WWE Hall if Famer Sean Waltman remains confident that we will see CM Punk in an AEW ring sooner than later.

The recent announcement that Punk will participate in a stage show at Starrcast III during AEW ALL OUT weekend had led to renewed speculation that Punk is AEW bound.

On the latest episode of his X-PAC 1-2-360 podcast, Waltman once again discussed the possibility of the Chicago native showing up in Tony Khan’s upstart promotion.

“Well, that’s a hell of a score for Starrcast and I was surprised he wasn’t there for the first one,” Waltman said. “I would be surprised if he doesn’t show up in AEW. I have said this (before). I have been saying this since they announced AEW. I wouldn’t be surprised if he shows up on the very first (TV) show.”

Other topics discussed include his recent appearance at WWE’s RAW Reunion and Scott Hall producing the debut match of a new NXT wrestler.

CM Punk Explains What Led To His Starrcast Booking

CM Punk hasn’t wrestled an official match since January 26th, 2014. He continues to be a prominent figure in the world of pro-wrestling, however, despite him seemingly not wanting to be one. Punk participated in an interview with ESPN recently and explained what led to his decision to take part in the upcoming Starrcast convention at the end of the summer.

Punk would continue to talk about how when he does do signings, he wants his fans to have a positive experience.

“I try not to just shuffle people through a line. For those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s not just somebody shoves something in front of me, I sign it and it’s on to the next. I really try to make sure everybody has a story to tell or an experience. Sometimes it can be exhausting.”

CM Punk – Starrcast in Chicago

Punk also noted during the interview that Starrcast being in his hometown also played a role.

“The biggest thing was it’s in my hometown,” Punk continued. “I get to go for one day, I get to have fun, I get to give back to the fans, so to speak. And I get to go home and rest afterward.”

CM Punk On His Relationship With AEW

Punk was also asked about speculation that his Starrcast booking could lead to him working with AEW in the future.

“No. I know they like to talk about me a lot. If I text Matt Jackson, ‘Hey, have a great show tonight,’ which I did when they had their big show in Vegas, that somehow turns into Tony Khan telling people he has a great relationship with me. I’ve said in the past I’ve talked to them, but nothing ever came of anything.”

Punk would also suggest during the interview that AEW has teased his involvement with their promotion but there’s nothing between him and the company.

“They do videos where they talk about me. They’re constantly talking about me in the media. And again, maybe this sounds like I’m badgering them, but I’m not. It’s just something that happens.”

CM Punk on Texting With Cody

Punk also mentioned he’s not sure how to respond to text messages he gets from people in AEW sometimes.

“The last thing I got — I got a text from Cody [Rhodes]. And again, I almost don’t even know how to reply to them sometimes, because if I reply, they do interviews and are like, ‘Oh yeah, I just talked to Punk.’ I’m kind of damned if I do, damned if I don’t. I always think if somebody wants to do business with me, they can come talk to me. Texting offers isn’t really a way to do good business, at least.”

Punk then noted he received what he referred to as a “general offer” via text from 3 different people associated with AEW.

It was texted through three people and an offer came in through text. This is like a month ago, maybe,” Punk said.

“I think it was just a general offer. I never could have done the last one in Vegas [Double or Nothing], because I was in California for CFFC.”

Ryback Discusses The Chances Of CM Punk Wrestling For AEW

With CM Punk in attendance for Starrcast III, speculation has sparked once again over Punk returning to professional wrestling.

During an episode of Conversation With The Big Guy, Ryback addressed Punk’s Starrcast booking. He also spoke about the possibility that Punk could one day wrestle for All Elite Wrestling (AEW).

“I’m sure that those guys [AEW] have made it known that they are open to signing him. In pro wrestling, guys can wrestle well in their older age, but he has been out of it for a while, and I don’t know. I think it’s just him taking a signing,” Ryback observed.

He added that, if Punk were interested in coming back to in-ring action, he would have to “do it at an upper level, and he has to have that hunger to do it again. […] only he will know that.”

Open Arms

“I have heard The Young Bucks talk about it to welcome him with open arms, and maybe they believe if he comes around it that itch will come back, which is very possible. If anywhere he is going to go, I think AEW with that schedule is the most welcoming of all the situations for him.”

He continued, “I would personally think it would be a great move if he was able to go back and maybe he does do a surprise appearance there and hits the GTS and cuts a promo and to see how the reception is, but obviously being in Chicago he is going to have a great reception there regardless.”

AEW has now revealed details over their anticipated TNT TV show, which will debut on the network on October 2nd. Their next pay-per-view event is All Out, which takes place on August 31st.

Starrcast III takes place between August 29-September 1st in the Hyatt Regency Chicago, Schaumburg, Illinois.

Mark Henry Thinks CM Punk’s Starrcast Appearance Is Big Step Towards Wrestling Return

WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry offered his take on CM Punk being recently announced as a guest at the upcoming Starrcast III next month.

In the eyes of Henry, he thinks this could be a perfect stepping stone for Punk to try to make a return to pro wrestling.

Henry stated out by stating that sometimes people get bitter as he felt like he was screwed over by WWE. Henry question if fans are giving him too raw a deal and that Punk needs to be able to come to grips with it before fans cast judgment on him for abandoning what they love.

CM Punk Comments On Starrcast Booking, Accusations of “Trolling”

Henry continued to talk about how Punk used to love wrestling but wrestling might not have loved him back. “I mean, this is a big step for him to come back to us. Maybe he’s starting to let it go, maybe he’s dealt with it, I hope so.”

Henry added, “I think that [All Elite Wrestling] is tailor-made.” He would talk about the freedom that Punk would have in AEW compared to his time in WWE.

The three-day Starrcast III convention is scheduled to take place from August 29 – September 1st at the Hyatt Regency Chicago.

CM Punk To Appear At Starrcast III

Punk was interviewed by SI.com following the announcement that he would be at the Starrcast convention in August.

“I do about one signing a year and the best part is always finding out how you’ve touched people’s lives in a meaningful way,” Punk said during the interview. “A lot of it can be heavy; helped someone get clean, helped somehow with the loss of a loved one. I am always touched to know the private intimate stories people have.”

“We wanted to bring something unique and that hasn’t been done before at Starrcast,” said Conrad Thompson regarding Punk’s inclusion in the convention. “I’ve always wanted to have Punk at Starrcast but the timing was never right, and I’m really excited that the stars have aligned for this August.”
