One of All Elite Wrestling’s Executive Vice Presidents, Cody Rhodes, has discussed why the promotion hasn’t been running any house shows. Speaking with DallasNews.com, Rhodes explained that the schedule their roster has allows them to be free for independent shows.
Cody explained that by taking bookings with other conpanies, they “get their reps in” without exhausting themselves with numerous house show dates. He also noted how more experienced talent is already TV-ready, pointing to his brother Dustin as an example.
“One of the benefits of working for All Elite Wrestling – if you’re a competitor – you’re really only working one day a week. The really die-hard, committed, kind of golden circle of our company is always working, and that includes wrestlers – not just management. Their minds always going. But it’s new to wrestling that Tony’s offered this schedule.”
He continued, “Some people are free to do independent [shows] on the weekends where they can keep getting their reps in. Some other people don’t need the reps – like my brother [Dustin Rhodes], he’s had 20 years of reps. He’s TV-ready always, as kind of proven by this last week in there with The Young Bucks and Santana and Ortiz. I think it’s the way it should be.”
Cody Rhodes is currently involved in a feud with former best friend, Maxwell Jacob Friedman. On a recent episode of AEW: Dynamite, Rhodes was doing all he could to entice MJF into accepting his challenge. He offered his car, his watch and even his shoes in his attempts to secure a grudge match.
All Elite Wrestling announced on Monday that Hikaru Shida will wrestle with Kris Statlander in a one on one match. When Cody was hyping this matchup on Twitter, a fan replied to him and said that no one, not even Jim Ross knows who both of these women are.
Cody replied and pointed out that both Shida and Statlander are talented women and that they have been on AEW’s shows before. Shida is in fact at the first position on AEW Power Rankings as of this writing.
???
Both these talented women have been on the show before. Shida is in the top-5.
A fan then resorted to calling Meltzer Cody’s “boy”, implying that AEW follows the Wrestling Observer and makes their decisions influenced by it. Cody denied that and then the fan replied saying that maybe Cody is not a Meltzer guy, but the owner Tony Khan is, and he is “listening him into the ground.”
Why am I tagged in this friend?
I’m not Meltzer(he’s been equally critically of me…remember all in and how it started ha?). I’m also not my dad.
No need to stir up drama on a random Monday night. This is a beautiful time to be a wrestler and a fan. Do the work & have fun.
Cody explained that the accusation is nonsense and that their entire infrastructure is public. He added that AEW will rise and fall on their own merit. “That’s nonsense,” wrote Cody. “Our entire infrastructure is public. Who’s doing what and so forth. I know that’s a “brand” narrative, but it’s 100% not accurate. We will rise or fall based on our own merit. The right way.”
That’s nonsense. Our entire infrastructure is public. Who’s doing what and so forth. I know that’s a “brand” narrative, but it’s 100% not accurate. We will rise or fall based on our own merit. The right way.
As reported earlier, WWE’s NXT beat out AEW in the “total viewership” department. AEW had the edge in the Adults 18-49 demographic and actually bested NXT in every demographic group except Adults 50+.
Maxwell Jacob Friedman threw in the towel at AEW Full Gear, costing Cody his shot at the AEW World Championship. Not only did his actions cost Cody the match, as a result of a stipulation he had made before the PPV, Cody can now never challenge for the AEW World Championship ever again.
According to comments he recently made on Twitter, Maxwell Jacob Friedman says he’ll never wrestle Cody.
I have a very important and serious announcement in regards to my wrestling career.
After Full Gear, Cody was attacked by MJF’s new run-in buddy Wardlow on an episode of Dynamite. On the most recent episode of AEW Dynamite, Cody was attacked by the Butcher and the Blade along with Allie. The duo came up through a hidden opening in the ring mat to attack.
Cody vs Maxwell Jacob Friedman
Cody and Maxwell Jacob Friedman have never faced each other in single’s action. They’ve previously worked as a tag-team together, however. Cody and MJF wrestled Le Tabarnak de Team (Mathieu St-Jacques & Thomas Dubois) to a no-contest at a charity show held in Ottawa, ON, Canada back in August.
MJF In MLW’s Opera Cup
Friedman will also have to worry about MLW’s Opera Cup from New York’s Melrose Ballroom later this week. The tournament takes place on December 5th and MJF will face Alex Hammerstone in the 1st round.
Cody and Brandi Rhodes were recently interviewed at Starrcast IV and commented on Randy Orton using AEW for leverage in his recent contract negotiations with WWE. Orton recently signed a new 5-year deal with the promotion.
“One of the most exciting things about AEW is we’ve been able to raise the pay floor for the entire industry,” Cody said. “So, if Randy wants to take a dumb photo on an elevator and tag people he doesn’t even know in it and if they’re dumb enough to buy it and they pay him a certain amount, good for Randy Orton, you know what I’m saying?”
Cody would continue to talk about Orton in a positive light.
“He’s a good guy, he’s got like 20 kids now, I love it,” Cody said. “I love Randy, I never got to beat him, dammit.”
The discussion with Cody and Brandi Rhodes was recently posted to the Inside the Ropes YouTube page:
Randy Orton vs Cody Rhodes Head-to-Head Stats
Cody actually had 25 attempts to beat Randy Orton in a single’s match and he lost all of them. 13 of Orton’s victories over Cody came on house shows and the other 12 were televised. They only wrestled once on PPV at Vengeance 2011 and the rest of their matches were on either RAW or Smackdown.
As of late, Cody Rhodes has been attempting to get the intellectual property rights to the trademarks of previous WCW themes to use in AEW.
In fact, he was able to get the “Bash at the Beach” trademark and then on November 19th, he filed for trademarks on Slamboree and SuperBrawl.
WWE has noticed this and according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE has tried to oppose some of the trademarks that Cody was attempting to gain the rights to.
It was noted in the report that the exact trademarks that WWE is opposing aren’t known. Rhodes has been trying to get the trademark rights for the themes that were ideas of his father, Dusty Rhodes.
Some of the trademarks that he has or trying to get include SuperBrawl, Slamboree, The Match Beyond, Bash at the Beach, Dusty Rhodes, The American Nightmare, The Prince of Wrestling, Bunkhouse Stampede, Battlebowl, The American Dream.
AEW will air the January 15th episode of AEW Dynamite live on TNT with a special Bash At The Beach theme from Miami, Florida at the Watsco Center at the University of Miami.
With the help of appearances from the likes of Becky Lynch and Seth Rollins, NXT was able to beat AEW Dynamite in TV ratings this week, for the first time since the start of the Wednesday night wars.
Cody Rhodes was the first AEW star to react to this news and when a fan asked for comments on NXT topping Dynamite in TV ratings, the former Champion explained that it’s an opportunity for them to learn:
Take it on the chin, learn from it, get up off the mat and get to work.
The Le Champion Chris Jericho also reacted to this news in his own style and Y2J reminded everyone that last night’s episode was not a true NXT episode:
Triple H had invited members of Raw and SmackDown roster to
NXT prior to this week’s episode of the show while AEW had announced a Rey
Fenix vs. Nick Jackson match and more for the episode of Dynamite.
This tease from the company helped NXT in gaining a
viewership boost and the show garnered 916,000 viewers which was a massive
increase from last week’s 750,000 viewers.
On the other hand, the Dynamite episode saw a small decline
in audience compared to last week and this week’s episode of the show drew
893,000 viewers, down from the 957,000 viewers of last week.
AEW has announced some big matches for Dynamite next week while NXT will return to its normal programming after the Survivor Series weekend and we will have to wait and see how these changes affect the ratings of their shows next week.
Cody dropped an AEW World Championship match to Chris Jericho at AEW Full Gear in Baltimore. As a result of a stipulation added in the build-up to the match, Cody can now never challenge for the AEW World Championship ever again.
Cody took to Instagram recently to share his thoughts on what happened at Full Gear:
“Lovely snap my Wife got of Pharaoh and I days removed from the biggest loss of my professional career. Nothing positive will come from whining/pointing fingers. I’d like to thank everybody who attended Full Gear & Dynamite this last week, from Baltimore to Nashville…some of the loudest and loveliest fans ever. “
“Both cities did it “AEW style” by not just making it about a single event, but instead turning multiple days into a party and destination. I’d like to thank Tony Khan and my fellow EVPs. As well as Keith Mitchell, Tim Walbert, Rafael, Sandra, Janet, Stella, Chris H, Jeff J, QT Marshall, Jim Ross/Excalibur, Steve Yu & Dylan at Comeback Studios, and the long list of invaluable soldiers who were able to bring together such a first-rate production.”
“I’d also like to extend my gratitude to the Baltimore Commission and Dr Michael Sampson for treating my cut and allowing the World Title match to proceed for the fans in attendance. The end result is not something I can accept, it was my call/choice to make and nobody else’s. I can’t change it, but I can move forward and hopefully find some vindication. Need to heal, train, and most importantly DO THE WORK. Lesson here: always trust your dog.”
Cody attacked MJF and Chris Jericho this week on Dynamite but was ultimately stopped by the debuting Wardlow.
Cody hit the entrance ramp headfirst at Full Gear and the result was a gash above his eye. All Elite Wrestling issued a health update for the 34-year-old earlier today. According to AEW, Cody needed 8 stitches, has a costochondral separation and is not currently cleared for competition.
Cody lost to Chris Jericho last night at AEW Full Gear. MJF was cornering Cody and threw in the towel as Jericho had the challenger locked in the Lion Tamer. Following the match, MJF then delivered a low-blow to Cody. Neither Cody nor MJF have posted on social media following the event and neither took part in post-event media scrums.
AEW President Tony Khan noted in his post-event media scrum that no other serious injuries were sustained last night including in the Lights Out match between Jon Moxley and Kenny Omega.
“It was pretty gruesome,” Khan said. “I was very concerned for both guys because they are obviously two of the biggest stars not just two of the biggest stars in AEW but two of the biggest stars in wrestling.”
“We were concerned about it for sure but it was a great match and we’re really happy with it.”
Cody Rhodes wasn’t the wrestler to dethrone Chris Jericho as AEW World Heavyweight Champion.
Jericho successfully retained the title over Rhodes in the headliner of the AEW Full Gear pay-per-view event from the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland. The three judges for the contest were Great Muta, Arn Anderson, and Dean Malenko.
The stipulation coming into this match was the fact that if Cody didn’t beat Jericho then he will never allow himself to challenge for the AEW World Title again. MJF threw in the towel while Jericho had Cody in the Walls of Jericho, which resulted in the finish.
Post-match, MJF kicked him in the nuts and stood over Cody.
This contest was set up due to Rhodes having the best singles record in the promotion at the time as All Elite Wrestling protected his character on-screen to elevate him as the top babyface title challenger.
Jericho became the inaugural AEW World Heavyweight Champion when he beat Hangman Page in the headliner of the All Out pay-per-view event back in August at the Sears Centre Arena in Chicago.
At this same show, while on the undercard, Cody defeated Shawn Spears to improve his singles match record.
What are your thoughts on Chris Jericho retaining the AEW World Heavyweight Title? Was this the right call by AEW officials? Sound off in the comment section.
AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes took part in a media call on Friday afternoon to hype Saturday night’s AEW Full Gear pay-per-view from Baltimore, Maryland. Cody will challenge Chris Jericho for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship in one of the most anticipated bouts in AEW history.
Cody said he was just being himself this week when he delivered what many are calling the best promo of his career. He’s not hiding who he is, he’s not hiding the fact that he’s one of the key power players behind the scenes in AEW. “Wrestling is best when it’s real, so I don’t know if you can even call it a promo. It was just a real statement from me, and I’m glad it resonated with fans. I really am.”
Following up on his announcement that he’ll never challenge for the AEW Championship if he does not defeat Chris Jericho, Cody said the stipulation is authentic.
AEW’s production style:
AEW’s lead producer Keith Mitchell helps them deliver an “an element of danger, spontaneity, and grit.” He spoke about the importance of building a “family” relationship between the producers and the talent and named Darby Allin as someone who is very hands on with his presentation.
The possibility of an AEW mid-card championship:
Cody said he does not like the term “mid-card” but acknowledged they are considering a different route for recognizing rising stars. “I think it’s very possible within the next month or so, there will be a prize of some sort for the guys rising through the ranks,” he said. Cody stressed the importance of protecting AEW’s existing championships, which were only established recently.
“It’s not willy-nilly, handing these belts out, handing these prizes out,” he said. “They matter, and the next one will matter just as much.”
AEW Top 5 Rankings
AEW will begin announcing Top 5 Rankings for each division (Men, Women and Tag Teams) starting this Friday afternoon. The plan is to update the rankings every week.
Improving AEW Dynamite
A lot of work goes into each week’s episode of AEW Dynamite and they are constantly striving to improve the product. After each show Cody sends out a company-wide email detailing areas they need to work on. He enjoys getting constructive criticism from fans on social media.
Audio Issues on AEW TV
Cody acknowledged they are still working on getting the audio balancing where it needs to be. Some viewers have complained that entrance themes are too low, but they don’t want to pipe theme music into the television feed like WWE does, because he thinks it will drown out the crowd noise.
“There’s a lot of fire in that audience, and we want to hear them,” he said. “At the cost sometimes of not hearing the music, we would rather hear the fans as loud as they are, because they’ve been so generous and we’re so grateful for them.”
AEW’s Women’s Division
AEW plans to feature women more prominently in the months ahead. This includes not just in-ring action, but also interviews and vignettes. Fans can expect this initiative to be rolled out starting next week. They’ve wanted to feature even more international talent than they already have, but have dealt with some work visa issues so far.
Dynamite’s Television Ratings
Cody said many wrestling journalists are ‘stuck in the past’ as it relates to gauging AEW’s popularity. It’s not just about TV ratings anymore. “We’re not only looking at our Nielsens, we’re looking at our social Nielsens, we’re looking at our ITV representation, we’re looking at our FITE usage, we’re looking at an amazing amount of data.”
They are satisfied with AEW’s success so far, but sees a lot more room for improvement as fans learn about the product. “Six weeks in a row, we’ve gone head-to-head with WWE, the biggest wrestling company in the world, and six weeks in a row, they’ve been on the losing end.” Cody believes this solidifies that AEW is in fact a revolution.
The Panel of Judges for Full Gear’s Main Event
Cody commented on the 3-judge panel that will be ringside for his match against Chris Jericho at Full Gear. He assured everyone the judges will be of “championship caliber” and fans will be excited when they see who will show up. He’s not sure if they will continue the judge panel concept for future championship matches, but it’s something they’re trying out.
Future AEW Special Events
In addition to AEW’s “big four” pay-per-views (All Out, Double or Nothing, Full Gear and another show likely in February), they are interested in doing other smaller ‘special events’ like we saw this year with Fyter Fest and Fight for the Fallen.
Cody Rhodes had been hyping up the fact that he would be making a career announcement.
Rhodes did so on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT when he revealed a stipulation for his match against AEW World Heavyweight Champion Chris Jericho at AEW Full Gear.
This is where he cut a promo about how if he doesn’t beat Jericho at this show then he will never challenge for the title again. The reason for this was due to hearing the criticisms of him being in a title match and an AEW Executive Vice President. Rhodes’ promo was highly praised by fans on social media.
The AEW Full Gear pay-per-view event will take place on Saturday, November 9th from the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland and has already sold out.
AEW Full Gear Card

The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) vs. LAX (Santana & Ortiz) – Tag Team Match
Adam Page vs. PAC – Singles Match

What are your thoughts on this stipulation being added to the card? Sound off in the comment section.
Cody Rhodes recently appeared on the Cheap Heat with Peter Rosenberg podcast for ESPN Radio, where the former WWE Star talked about things like his thoughts on AEW programming so far, Finn Balor’s heel turn and more.
Seth Rollins was recently asked about possibly facing Omega in WWE and replying to the question, the now-former Universal Champion had taken some shots at Kenny’s current home in AEW, calling the company the ‘minor leagues’.
When asked about Rollins’ remarks about their company, Rhodes recalled how Seth’s first dark match in WWE was with him and he went on to say that he doesn’t take the former Shield Member’s comments personally:
“Seth is super
talented, I had his first dark match in WWE, he’s a unique soul, he works his
ass off when a lot of people in that company just collected checks, I don’t
take it personally, that’s just a part of wrestling”.
It’s worth mentioning here that Cody himself is known to not shy away from expressing his opinion on WWE. He probably took the biggest shot of the war between the two companies when he destroyed a throne during his entrance at Double or Nothing.
Cody Rhodes On His Father’s Relationship With WWE
Cody’s father Dusty Rhodes had a lengthy career with WWE as well but there have always been stories of the McMahons not liking the Rhodes family and during the interview, Cody was asked how he would define Vince McMahon’s feeling about his father.
In response to the question, the current AEW Star recalled how WWE helped his father with the Dusty Rhodes DVD they released and it brought the Hall Of Famer a feeling of financial security in the later stage of his life when he needed it.
He went on to explain that while his own experience with the company is vastly different than his father, because of this and the opportunity they provided him with NXT, he will remain grateful to WWE:
“I always say I owe them a great debt and maybe I paid it personally the way things ended but I’ll never forget that both Hunter and Vince and Stephanie McMahon were very good to my father when he needed that and as his son, that’s something if they every ask me to repay that debt I will go and repay it. Because it was important”
Cody Rhodes is currently set to challenge Chris Jericho for the AEW World title at the Full Gear PPV on November 9th. While on the other hand, there is no word yet on what WWE is planning for Seth Rollins after he lost the Universal title to the Fiend at Crown Jewel.
It appears that AEW is planning to bounce back after suffering a big decline in viewership for Dynamite last week with the announcement of 2 interesting angles for this week’s episode of the show.
The first angle is a segment that will feature Cody Rhodes
making some sort of career announcement ahead of his upcoming Full Gear match
with Chris Jericho.
The announcement for the segment was made by Rhodes himself who took on his Twitter and said that he hopes his announcement will resonate well with the fans because it means a great deal to him:
This week’s @AEWonTNT#AEWDynamite I will be uninterrupted and have the chance to make my career announcement. I hope it resonates with the fans, because it matters a great deal to me.
The upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite will serve as the go-home episode for the Full Gear PPV on November 9th.
Since the company has only announced 4 matches for the upcoming event so far, it’s likely that they will announce a few more matches for the event on this week’s episode of the show. You can check out the updated match card for AEW Full Gear here.
All Elite Wrestling’s Cody Rhodes has spoken out about his best friend MJF. He addressed his role as a mentor to his often brash protege, stating that he sees MJF as a talent he wants to help cultivate.
In an interview with Wrestlezone, Cody reflected on how he has been a “bad guy” on numerous occasions, having turned on tag team partners himself in the past. It’s something he is well aware of when fans speculate that, one day, MJF will turn on him.
“I’m not oblivious to the fact that MJF is an ass,” he said. “I’m aware. I’ve done signings with him too and I’ve asked never to do signings with him again because he is fully committed to you hating him. However—he was my handpicked project before All In.”
He continued, “Whether it’s because he’s in your face asking questions, whether it’s because he’s literally growing—his body’s growing, knowing that he’s putting work in in the gym—his matches. He’s able to mix the modern style with a new style, creating his own style, or it’s just the X factor, whatever it was. I sold him to Matt and Nick for All In, and then after that, I never had to sell him again.”
Project MJF
When it comes to their friendship, Cody wants to take responsibility for MJF as a talent, referring to his friend as a “project.”
“He’s entertaining, and I feel like he’s mine. I want to cultivate that,” Rhodes admitted. “My Dad had so many projects through the years, so many projects. So, this is my project. And maybe I don’t have that many, but this is one of my first projects as a leader and as a mentor.”
“I’ve never been a mentor before, or at least I didn’t know I was until now. Some of those guys—‘Jungle Boy’ Jack Perry, Kip Sabian, Max—a bunch of projects that we have that we’ve homegrown and developed. I want Max to have the best chance to succeed and win. I know he’s not friendly and I know he’s not sociable, but in the ring he can get it done. If you watch last week’s Dynamite, he will make the right decision from time to time.”
Cody faces AEW World Champion Chris Jericho for the title at AEW Full Gear on November 9th.
Cody Rhodes has commented on the viewership numbers thus far for AEW’s weekly television show, Dynamite on TNT.
He did so when responding to a fan on his official Twitter account who brought up some comments made by Vince Russo on a recent episode of his podcast. Rhodes wrote the following:
“We are happy and our partner is happy. We overshot projections and set a record for a WM debut. This is the era of cord cutting, simulcast and dvr bumps. We are proud of how incredible the numbers have been and know we need to work hard now more than ever.”
While AEW has been off to a great start with Dynamite on TNT for the past three weeks, the viewership numbers for the show have been on a trend down since the premiere episode.
The same goes for NXT on the USA Network, which airs during the same time slot as AEW.
The premiere episode of Dynamite pulled in 1,409,000 while the second episode did 1,140,000 and the third episode, which was last week, averaged 1,014,000.
Rhodes is slated to challenge Chris Jericho for the AEW World Title at the Full Gear pay-per-view event next month.
All Elite Wrestling’s Cody Rhodes has opened up about how the promotion intends to utilize their rankings system. It has previously been stressed how wins and losses will matter in AEW.
Speaking with Wrestlezone, Cody Rhodes shared that AEW intends to introduce a Top Five that will be updated every week. He added that fully intend to commit to a “sports-centric” wrestling alternative.
“On the Friday before Full Gear, I think we’re going to put our first-ever ‘Top Fives’ and [that] should become a weekly thing,” Cody said. “This isn’t just broadcast this is also social, just like with college football and the AP Poll, you get your Top 20. Sometimes a guy who is 5-0 is not ranked in the top three because the quality of wins, the softness of the schedule and it’s fun because in college football people argue over—especially when we get near the playoffs—people ‘should, should they not’ [get in]. PAC right now has these great wins over Hangman Page and Kenny Omega, he’s essentially Ohio State for us at this point. There’s gotta be a title shot in his future, and there is if he keeps winning and keeps going, but I believe before Full Gear we’ll have our Top Five for women, for tags and for singles and now that we have more and more every week it helps us so much from data.
He continued, “I’ve expanded—to be fair, Kevin Sullivan’s expanded the lower thirds on talent so you can see their records. We want their records to be more present because Jim Ross is talking about them, Tony Schiavone is talking about them.” Cody said. “Once we get a few more wins, a few more losses, a few more draws, whatever they may be, it really helps create that tapestry for us which is something we promised and it wasn’t just a campaign promise. Sports-centric, the guys winning the matches are the guys getting the title matches.”
Cody Rhodes is scheduled to compete against AEW World Champion Chris Jericho at their next big event, Full Gear. The show takes place on November 9th from the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.
Fans were not pleased with the ending of Hell In A Cell and
people in attendance showed their displeasure with the finish to the Universal
Championship match at the show using various chants, including one about AEW.
During a recent interview on the Joe Cronin Show, AEW Vice
President Cody Rhodes talked about a number of things and he also reacted to
these fan chants from the PPV that took place this past Sunday night.
Rhodes revealed that he did not watch the event but his phone started blowing up with notifications after the AEW chants were heard in the arena and according to him, it’s flattering:
“It was flattering. I wouldn’t be one to gloat about it
only because I know that one of the guys in that match got concussed and this
job ain’t that easy, but nevertheless whenever we hear those chants, it’s more
validation that what we’re doing and what we’ve been saying about this market
existing, it’s real.”
While the Hell In A Cell PPV featured some good matches, the
main event between Seth Rollins and Bray Wyatt for the Universal Championship
infuriated a lot of fans due to its controversial finish.
The Hell In A Cell match ended with referee stoppage after Seth tried to attack Wyatt with a sledgehammer and the show ended with The Fiend attacking Rollins once again and standing tall after taking the Universal Champion down.
You can check out Cody Rhodes’ comments in the video below:
Cody Rhodes took to Twitter earlier today to announce that AEW will air previously unaired matches on Tuesday nights beginning next week. AEW Dark will begin this Tuesday hosted by Tony Schiavone. The show will feature unaired matches filmed before or after Dynamite airs live on TNT.
Cody sent the following out on Twitter to announce the news:
There were 4 matches taped Wednesday night in Washington that didn’t make air on the debut episode of Dynamite. Those matches were as follows:
Darby Allin vs CIMA
The Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent) & The Private Party (Isiah Kassidy & Marq Quen) vs. The Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix), Angelico& Jack Evans
Allie & Britt Baker vs. Bea Priestley & Penelope Ford
SCU (Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) vs. The Jurassic Express (Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus & Marko Stunt
Tony Khan mentioned during the post-event media scrum on Wednesday that plans were in the works to air the dark matches from that week.
“They will be aired and I think as we go on we’ll smooth it out and we’ll develop, that it’ll be a new franchise I actually think we can get out of the good wrestling from these tapings.”
Cody Rhodes and Chris Jericho got into a brawl at the New York City Comic Con on Friday.
It all happened when Rhodes made a surprise appearance as Jericho was doing a scheduled appearance. Once Rhodes approached Jericho, the two AEW (All Elite Wrestling) stars started to exchange words before the brawl broke out.
This is the latest angle between the two top stars.
This comes after Jericho and his new stable attacked Rhodes on Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT following the main event that saw Jericho, Ortiz, and Santana beat Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks in a six-man tag team match.
Omega was taken out of the match by Jon Moxley, who attacked him.
Rhodes is slated to challenge Jericho for the AEW World Title at the Full Gear pay-per-view event.
AEW presents Full Gear on Saturday, November 9th from Baltimore’s Royal Farms Arena. The show will air on B/R Live, which is Bleacher Report’s streaming service, traditional PPV outlets, and FITE TV in international markets.
All Elite Wrestling’s Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) took part in a post-show media scrum following the conclusion of Wednesday’s premiere of AEW: Dynamite. During the scrum, MJF spoke about his victory over Brandon Cutler as well as his future ambitions in competing against Chris Jericho.
“It felt great [to pick up the victory tonight]. It felt like every single bit of work that I have put into this industry has finally, finally come to fruition. I got to show the world what the future looks like. I got to show the world what the future of what All Elite Wrestling is, and the future of AEW is MJF.”
He spoke about tapping out Cutler in short order, calling himself a “top tier athlete” because of it. “[…] I proved what I’ve been saying since day one, and yet, people’ boo’ me. What they should be doing is looking in the mirror and wondering, ‘Why do I boo MJF? Is it because I’m jealous? Is it because I can never be MJF?’ Yeah, yeah it is.”
Future Goals
When it comes to his next goal in AEW, MJF is quick to mention the current AEW World Champion, Chris Jericho:
“Chris Jericho [is who I would want to face next] because he decided to do something that was absolutely inhumane and absolutely unnecessary,” Friedman stated.
He also addressed his friendship with Cody Rhodes, claiming that he would never face off against him as he is a “brother” to him.
“I would never in a million years put my hands on my big brother. Ever! When I say I’m going to be the future face of this company, it is because the face of this company right now is Cody Rhodes. And once he’s done, then it’s my time to shine. It’s really that simple.”
Cody Rhodes has opened up on the importance of his next match that takes place before the next AEW pay-per-view event.
The AEW Vice President took part in a conference call on Tuesday ahead of AEW Dynamite.
During the call, he discussed his match with Sammy Guevara. He tried to get over the potential implications that it could have at the Full Gear show.
“I would like to make it clear, that if Sammy Guevara beats me, I’m not going to Full Gear to wrestle Chris Jericho, by no means. Sammy Guevara will be able to take my place if he wins on the first episode of Dynamite. So, the stakes are high.”
Rhodes is expected to open the premiere episode of AEW on TNT this Wednesday in Washington, D.C., at the famed Capital One Arena. This is just one of many matches that have been announced for the stacked lineup.
Rhodes is slated to challenge Jericho for the AEW World Title at the pay-per-view event. This is part of AEW taking wins and losses seriously.
AEW presents Full Gear on Saturday, November 9th from Baltimore’s Royal Farms Arena. The show will air on B/R Live, which is Bleacher Report’s streaming service, traditional PPV outlets, and FITE TV in international markets.
AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes has been doing the media rounds to promote AEW Dynamite on TNT.
During a recent long-form interview with Jonathan Snowden for Bleacher Report, Cody reflected on his WWE departure in 2016.
He also talked about how Triple H took his exit personally due to his relationship with Cody’s father, the late great Dusty Rhodes.
“Hunter [Triple H] took it very personally because he had done so much for my dad at NXT. There was one conversation where he said, ‘I’m shocked that you feel this way after everything I’ve done for your family.’
But I told him, ‘I’m not my dad. I can’t stay here out of loyalty to you for giving my dad a job in 2005. I get it, and the little boy in me really appreciates what you did for my dad. But I’m not him. He’s not here anymore. I’ve got to be me.’”
Rhodes continued by stating that he thinks Triple H has been been in wrestling long enough that Triple H knew that he’s being for real as he’s not asking for more money or a title shot.
There was nothing that would matter to him at this point. He thinks he let the burn get too bad before he said anything.
Rhodes is expected to open the premiere episode of AEW on TNT this Wednesday as he’ll be in action when he takes on Sammy Guevara in a singles match.
Ahead of All Elite Wrestling’s premiere this Wednesday, Cody Rhodes sat down for an interview on the Rich Eisen Show. During their conversation, Cody was asked about what it was like to grow up not only as a wrestling fan but as Dusty Rhodes’ son.
“When I heard the first bump in the ring and the crowd react, I never wanted to be backstage again,” Rhodes stated, remembering the moment he became a fan. “Brad Armstrong match in Savannah, Georgia. After that, I was hooked.”
He shared how he had discovered his father’s bloodier matches hidden away in a guest bedroom. Cody revealed that, once he found these matches, he dove right in and watched everything.
“I found, in our guest bedroom, this chest of huge reels. VHS was pretty big at the time, but a lot of the stuff my dad was in was rather violent and bloody. It was hidden from me, but I found it and I dove right in. I watched everything, I was genuinely shocked because I was 8 or 9. I had no clue he was as significant to our industry as a wrestler.”
Even when Dusty would have his supposed rivals over for dinner, Cody remembered how “He always explained it me in a way that I didn’t mind. I liked being disillusioned by it all. He explained that you couldn’t fight outside the ring or else “the league” would fine you, or there would be these big repercussions. At a young age, I bought it. Never once did I question it. I didn’t want to question it. The show was just too fun.”
AEW: Dynamite premieres on TNT this Wednesday, October 2nd.
Cody Rhodes was active on social media on Tuesday where he confirmed the television rating for the AEW weekly series on TNT.
The All Elite Wrestling Executive Vice President confirmed on his official Twitter account that AEW Dynamite will be rated TV-14.
The news was made when Rhodes was responding to a fan who asked if the weekly AEW TV show on TNT will be rated TV-PG.
AEW’s competition, WWE, made the move to PG programming several years ago, which has led to many fans wanting them to make the product edgier like they had back in the Attitude Era.
Starting Wednesday, October 2 in Washington, D.C., at the famed Capital One Arena, AEW will begin airing live two-hour weekly matches on TNT at 8 p.m. ET.
Rhodes is expected to open the show as he’ll be in action when he takes on Sammy Guevara in a singles match.
He was last seen in action under the AEW banner when he got his revenge on Sean Spears by beating him at the All Out event in at the Sears Centre in Chicago, IL that aired on pay-per-view.
AEW Dynamite premieres on TNT in just over one week. Ahead of next week’s big show, there are some interesting new details to report regarding behind-the-scenes happenings at All Elite Wrestling.
As first reported in our world exclusive about the formation of AEW, agent Barry Bloom was instrumental in getting the project off the ground, until he was effectively pushed out of the venture in its early stages.
Since then, Bloom has maneuvered himself back into the AEW mix in a more profitable way: by cornering the market on AEW’s top stars.
Barry Bloom has been a power broker in the industry for decades. He represented Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall and others during the height of WCW’s boom period. He still reps some of the top names in the wrestling, including Jim Ross and Chris Jericho.
SEScoops has learned that Bloom recently signed Kenny Omega as a client. Omega is arguably the franchise player of All Elite Wrestling, so this signing is significant as it relates to Bloom’s influence. Nick and Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks are also in talks with Barry Bloom.
Fellow AEW Executive VP Cody Rhodes is currently signed with Brian Wittenstein, but Jim Ross is encouraging Cody to keep his options open.
In addition to Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, Barry Bloom is taking meetings with high profile talent from WWE and Impact Wrestling about representation.
According to a source to the matter, Bloom is actively positioning himself to be a key player in the inevitable WWE/NXT vs. AEW talent war.
