WWE uses the third hour of SmackDown Live to tape content for their on-demand service WWE Network and some latest comments from Cody Rhodes make it seem like AEW could also follow these footprints.
Cody recently had an interview with IGN, where he discussed things like NXT’s debut on USA Network, his upcoming championship match with Chris Jericho and more.
While talking about their TV Show, the former WWE Star explained how they will switch between stars. He explained that not every star will be on TV every week and Rhodes went on to discuss the possibility of a third hour of on-demand content:
“It will probably (be) live for people to stream on B/R Live, we have a lot of resources and we want to make sure that people can plug into the wrestlers who we signed who they’re fans of. We’re going to try and keep everybody busy.”
The former IC Champion also discussed their upcoming show on TNT saying that they want to provide “bell-to-bell sports-centric pro-wrestling.”
Expanding on his comments, Cody Rhodes explained that this will mean that their matches will be longer and the stories will be told through the bouts, in between the ropes.
AEW’s TNT show dubbed Dynamite will premiere on October 2nd. You can watch the latest promo for the same below:
Cody Rhodes answered some questions from fans on Twitter yesterday and made some interesting statements during the conversation. Fans asked Cody about AEW television in Canada, his favourite matches, and more.
Fans in Canada are still waiting to hear how they will be able to watch AEW’s weekly television show. Cody told fans in Canada to be patient and insinuated an announcement could be forthcoming.
Many believe the program could end up on TSN, which aired both RAW and Nitro during the Monday Night Wars. RAW would air live on Monday nights on TSN but Nitro was often not broadcast until Wednesday. WWE has since moved its Canadian programming to Sportsnet.
Cody Rhodes Q&A Highlights
Cody also was asked on Twitter what his favourite match of his career was.
Cody also made some interesting comments regarding changes he has seen in the wrestling industry since All In.
“After “All In” I’ve noticed it’s increasingly more talent controlled. Less or zero writers, less corporate agendas, more freedom(which lets the really talented wrestlers shine bright but is also risky for the greener ones). More seasoned talent, more awareness, more listening,” Cody Tweeted.
After a string of notable victories in All Elite Wrestling (AEW), Cody Rhodes has earned an opportunity at the inaugural AEW Champion, Chris Jericho.
Responding to a Tweet from the official AEW account asking if the people were ready for Cody to become the new AEW Champion. He wrote about having fun being underrated throughout his career, before admitting that he wants to claim the championship for his wife, mother, and every fan who supported him when he bet on himself three years ago.
“Being “underrated” was fun but also the least rewarding period of my career
It may seem silly but in my house the World Championship is The Stanley Cup, The Oscar, The Lombardi Trophy
I want it for my Wife, my Momma, & every fan who bet on me 3 years ago when I bet on myself”

Cody holds victories over his brother Dustin Rhodes as well as his recent win over Shawn Spears at All Out. He also has a tag team loss against The Young Bucks with his brother Dustin, and a time limit draw against Darby Allin. The promotion has previously stressed the importance of wins and losses, and so with these victories under his belt, Cody became the number one contender for Jericho’s championship.
AEW Full Gear takes place on November 9th from the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland.
Chris Jericho and Cody are scheduled to go one-on-one for the AEW World Championship November 9th at Full Gear. During a recent promo he filmed for YouTube, Jericho stated he has never liked any member of the Rhodes family, including Cody, Dusty, or Dustin.
“It’s not a secret, I don’t like you Cody,” Jericho says in the video. “I don’t like your brother, I don’t like your mother, I don’t like your sisters and I sure as hell don’t like Dusty Rhodes, your father.”
Jericho would continue to speak negatively about the late Dusty Rhodes, whom he worked with in WCW in the late 1990’s.
“That son of a b*tch, promised me a lot of things that never happened. Fast-forward 25 years and now this son of a b*tch, you Cody, promised me a lot of stuff that also didn’t happen but I’ll promise you this, I don’t like you are or your family but I love being ‘le Champion’ and I’m going to beat the hell out of you and teach your entitled ass a lesson on November 9th in Baltimore, my birthday.”
Jericho finished the promo with one last dig at the American Nightmare.
“The greatest birthday present I could ever receive is beating the crap out of you, Cody. Welcome to my nightmare, I don’t think you’re going to like it. You’re welcome.”
You can watch Jericho’s full promo embedded below.
Chris Jericho vs. Cody Rhodes headlines AEW Full Gear on Saturday night, November 9th from Baltimore, MD at the Royal Farms Arena.
AEW recently crowned its first world champion. The promotion’s first women’s world champion will be crowned on October 2nd and a tournament to crown inaugural tag team champions will begin on TNT this fall. Cody recently teased there could be a 4th championship coming to AEW, however. He recently spoke to IGN.com and hinted that AEW management has discussed the idea of a TV title as well.
“There’s a title we’re considering,” Cody said. “And it’s something people can probably guess since we’re going to be on TV, hint hint, but there are no plans for it at the moment. Right now we revolve around the AEW Championship and in D.C. we’re going to name the first ever AEW Women’s Champion, and that’s such a beautiful belt.”
Cody would continue to talk about the aesthetic value of the AEW Women’s belt and then insinuated there would be some guidelines for the new champion as to how she should take care of it.
“There’s going to be some guidelines laid out for whoever wins that title though,” Cody laughed. “Some guidelines about how they’re supposed to take care of it.”
The full IGN interview with Cody can be read here.
Cody also addressed his future AEW World Championship match at Full Gear on November 9th. He stressed, however, that neither he nor Jericho are guaranteed to be in that match. Jericho has to defend the title once beforehand on October 16th in Philadelphia and if Cody loses between now and Full Gear, his title shot could be in jeopardy.
“I’m coming off a win over Dustin, one of the best of all time, and coming off a win over Shawn Spears, who’s an absolute stud. Those were two huge wins. So me going for the title makes all the sense in the world. But it may not end up being me versus Chris Jericho,” Cody stressed. “Because Chris Jericho still has a title defense before that in Philadelphia. And it may not be me if I take a loss to Sammy Guevara on the premiere episode. I think Chris Jericho is probably going to get through his first title defense, but if he doesn’t we’re going to stick to our word about win/loss records being a deciding factor. It’s really about the data and who has the best record.”
Cody Rhodes got his hands on Shawn Spears where he was able to get his revenge.
The AEW Executive Vice President did so at the All Out event in at the Sears Centre in Chicago, IL that aired on pay-per-view. Tully Blanchard was in the corner of Spears for the match as his manager. MJF was in the corner of Rhodes.
Prior to the match, DDP walked out with Rhodes. In the middle of the match to even the odds, Arn Anderson hit a spinebuster to Spears.
The promotion confirmed the match on an episode of The Road To All Out. The feud was set up at the Fyter Fest event in June where Rhodes went to a draw with Darby Allin.
Post-match, Spears, formerly known as Tye Dillinger, hit Rhodes in the head with a steel chair with Rhodes turning his head and didn’t put up his hands.
Rhodes was bleeding pretty good from the back of his head. It was an accident as the chair was supposed to be gimmicked but went wrong.
All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Executive Vice President and wrestler, Cody Rhodes, recently spoke about portraying the character of Stardust in WWE.
When a fan suggested on Twitter that the blame could be attributed to Vince McMahon, Cody was quick to shoulder blame as to why Stardust didn’t work in the way WWE had hoped.
“I don’t really blame him more than I blame myself. I worked hard, but at the time…not hard enough. To go from undesirable to undeniable took a lot sacrifices, reality checks, & most importantly I had to do the damn work. I don’t want to be anything less than the guy at the top.”

The Stardust conversation stemmed from a question asking why he doesn’t use the Bionic Elbow—a move synonymous with his father, Dusty Rhodes. Cody replied that as the move isn’t his, he doesn’t want to use it and he has no interest in being a “tribute act.”
“It’s not mine. I can’t be a tribute act. However, I do save it for the rare occasional moment when I really feel it in my bones/heart. Not sure if I can really pull it off even.”
Cody Rhodes is scheduled to face off against Shawn Spears at AEW’s next major event All Out on August 31st.
Cody Rhodes recently did an interview with Bleacher Report to talk about AEW and the competition that they face in the way of WWE NXT.
Back in May, All Elite Wrestling officially announced a television deal with WarnerMedia to air live weekly show on TNT. The show is slated to premiere on October 2nd.
Fast forward to this week, WWE announced that NXT would be moving to the USA Network starting September 18th.
In this interview, Rhodes talked about the move involving WWE NXT as well as what the change will bring for fans.
“I’m oddly intrigued to see what Vince McMahon does with NXT,” Rhodes said. He continued by noting that his father was instrumental in building the NXT brand and for a long time it was a developmental project.
“For Vince to now bring it to the USA Network as if it’s a full brand, I’m just intrigued by it.” Rhodes would talk about how he thinks the most important night in all of wrestling is now Wednesday nights.
“The best wrestling is going to be happening on Wednesday nights.” Rhodes would note that it’s destination TV and must-watch so he won’t complain about that. He added that wrestling fans now have a choice, and he hopes fans choose AEW.
NXT will be extended from a one-hour program to two hours and it will be a live show that will fill in the 8 pm ET – 10 pm ET time slot on Wednesday nights. The show will air from Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida, which has been the home of television tapings for years now.
AEW has already announced that they will travel to different cities each week to host their weekly television shows.
Bray Wyatt’s Fiend has taken WWE by storm in recent months. His most recent attack occurred on RAW this week during a planned episode of the King’s Court. Before Jerry Lawler could bring out his scheduled guest Sasha Banks, Wyatt’s Fiend appeared and delivered a Mandible Claw to the legend.
Wyatt posted the following to Twitter asking for Lawler’s forgiveness:
Cody was Harris’ “Pro” back in the era of NXT when new talent was partnered up with a more experienced WWE talent. Wyatt teamed with Cody his first two matches in WWE. Their first match as a team they lost to MVP and Percy Watson but won their second match against Mark Henry and Lucky Cannon.
Bray Wyatt’s Fiend in WWE 2K20
Wyatt’s new character was recently confirmed as downloadable and pre-order content for the upcoming WWE 2K20 video game. The game is scheduled to be released on October 22nd.
“WWE 2K20 Originals: Bump in the Night’s centerpiece is the debut playable version of “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt, who taunted the WWE Universe for months before his in-ring debut at SummerSlam this past Sunday. Wyatt fits in perfectly with the pack, loaded with a horror-themed Showcase, unique story towers, frightening versions of some of your favorite WWE Superstars, and much more,” a WWE 2K20 press release for the game reads.
According to comments made by Cody Rhodes, All Elite Wrestling may have only revealed less than half of their roster. Cody was responding to a fan on Twitter who evidently felt AEW was missing the boat by not signing Goldberg.
His interaction with the fan can be viewed below:
We want/have modern wrestlers. Big ones at that. No disrespect intended to the heritage and those who paved the road. 2019.
AEW’s roster currently sits at 37 male Superstars and 12 women. In comparison, the WWE RAW roster currently has 40 male Superstars assigned to it and 15 women. The WWE Smackdown roster has 36 male Superstars and 14 women.
AEW Roster
The official roster as listed on the AEW website is as follows:
AEW Executive Vice President Cody Rhodes made a recent appearance on The Apter Chat to speak with Bill Apter about All Elite Wrestling.
During the interview, he talked about how he thinks he’ll be working the first match of the night on the premiere episode of AEW’s weekly television show on TNT.
“I think, as of looking at it now, I’ll probably be the very first match of the night.” The reason for his belief is due to it being a special place in his mind and from a logistic and planning standpoint making sense.
“It makes it very easy for me to go sit down, put the headset on, and help Tony Khan and the other EVPs produce the rest of the show.”
Rhodes is slated to wrestle Sammy Guevara in a singles match on the show that will take place on Wednesday, October 2 from the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.
Several matches and a segment were previously announced for the show. Below is the current line-up:
The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega vs. Chris Jericho and two mystery partners
Jon Moxley appears live
Cody Rhodes vs. Sammy Guevara
The first-ever AEW Women’s Champion will be crowned
Cain Velasquez made his professional wrestling debut last night in Mexico City at AAA’s Triplemanía XXVII. He teamed with Cody Rhodes and Psycho Clown in winning fashion over Taurus, Texano Jr, and Killer Kross. There was a scuffle in the back between Velasquez and LA Park after the event which could lead to Cain’s next program with AAA as well.
In the post-event press, AAA seemed to setup a trios match with Cain Velasquez, Psycho Clown and Blue Demon Jr. against LA Park and his family. #TripleManiaXXVII
Tessa Blanchard also won the Reina De Reinas championship last night in Mexico City. Not long after winning the title, however, former long-time holder of the belt Taya Valkyrie got up in Blanchard’s face about it. The face-off between the two is likely building towards a future clash between them.
Members of the Elite were on-hand as well. In addition to Cody teaming with Velasquez, Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks lost to the Lucha Bros and the Laredo Kid.

CM Punk recently took part in an interview with ESPN. During the interview, he implied that offers he has received from those associated with AEW have been via text message and he doesn’t feel this is a good way to do business.
According to a recent report from Wrestling Observer, Punk’s quotes upset some within AEW.
“Some in AEW were upset about the quotes,” wrote Dave Metlzer. “They felt they were dealing up-front in business with him and felt that when people in the company have asked about Punk coming, they’ve always been honest.”
CM Punk Says He Doesn’t Hate WWE, Speculation He’d Go Back
Punk noted during the interview with ESPN that he doesn’t hate WWE.
“People still have that connotation, like, ‘Oh, he hates WWE.’ And it’s just like, no, I’ve let all that go, and I’ve let all that go so long ago. But there are people that hold on to that. They still think or want me to be who I was. I’m not who I was yesterday. This is my journey, this is my odyssey.”
Based on the above comments Punk made during the interview with ESPN, there are some within AEW who evidently feel Punk could end up back in WWE.
“On the AEW side, there are those who think that, based on this interview, that maybe he’s going to WWE,” Meltzer continued.
Cody noted in a Tweet that he thinks it’s possible Punk ends up back there as well.
I think he was misquoted. I know 1 of us had met with him in person, and yes I texted him plenty when we couldn’t connect on the actual phone, but not a contracted offer. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went back to wwe. Regardless, great wrestler & guy. Door is open if he wants it https://t.co/3ityuurGGy
As expected, All Elite Wrestling has confirmed that Cody Rhodes will battle Shawn Spears at the upcoming All Out pay-per-view event.
The promotion confirmed the news in the latest episode of The Road To All Out. Tully Blanchard will be in the corner of Spears for the match as his manager.
AEW has announced who Cody Rhodes will be wrestling on the premiere episode of their weekly television show on TNT.
On Tuesday, the promotion confirmed that the Executive Vice President would take on Sammy Guevara in a singles match. This marks the first and only contest thus far announced for the show.
The news was made with this post on Twitter, which you can see here:
Tickets for the show will go on sale at noon Eastern time on Friday, August 2. Tickets will be priced at $250, $90, $75, $50, $35, and $20. The $250 tickets will be within the first three rows of the ringside floor sections and will include an “AEW-designed commemorative collector’s take-home chair.”
Before the promotion launches their television show that will air every week of the year, their journey to the next pay-per-view is underway. The All Out event will take place on Saturday, August 31st at the Sears Centre in Chicago, IL.
At this show, Rhodes is slated to wrestle Shawn Spears with Tully Blanchard in a singles match. The show is already sold out.
The announcement of CM Punk’s Starrcast booking led to many
rumors and speculations with a lot of people wondering if this is a step
towards the former WWE Champion’s AEW debut.
Things, however, took a different turn when Punk spoke to
ESPN and he seemed disappointed by the fact that he received a text from Cody
Rhodes regarding business instead of going and meeting him in person.
Rhodes recently replied to these comments from the former WWE Star and responding to a tweet, he claimed that Punk might have been misquoted as one of them had met the Straight Edge Star in person recently:
I think he was misquoted. I know 1 of us had met with him in person, and yes I texted him plenty when we couldn’t connect on the actual phone, but not a contracted offer. I wouldn’t be surprised if he went back to wwe. Regardless, great wrestler & guy. Door is open if he wants it https://t.co/3ityuurGGy
CM Punk had a long interview with ESPN where he talked about the idea of joining AEW which is being thrown around since his Starrcast booking was announced.
However Punk seemed to suggest that AEW Officials have
exaggerated their relations and revealed that the last communication they had
was a text from Cody:
“The last thing I got — I got a text from Cody [Rhodes]. I
always think if somebody wants to do business with me, they can come talk to
me. Texting offers isn’t really a way to do good business, at least.”
While CM Punk has so far stayed true to his words and stayed away from wrestling since leaving WWE, a lot of people believe that the former Champion will return to the ring eventually.
Do you think CM Punk will return to the ring if he is made a
proper offer by AEW? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
On Friday night in Mexico, Konnan called out Cody Rhodes at AAA’s Conquista Total Gira event. AAA is building towards their big annual TripleMania event on August 3rd from Mexico City Arena.
Cody and MJF were on the show and lost to Daga and Taurus in tag action.
During his promo, Konnan took offense to Cody not coming to him in regards to AEW making inroads in Mexico.
“When you come to Mexico, you check in with me. You want to make any power moves? You check in with me,” Konnan began his promo.
“AAA has been running the game for 27 years. You could come sit under the learning tree instead of giving dumb one-liners and trying to bury me. And let me tell you something, if you don’t heed my advice, it will be the worst mistake you ever made since you decided to grow that goofy mustache a couple years ago.”

The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson) were victorious when they beat Cody & Dustin Rhodes at AEW Fight for the Fallen.
This served as the main event from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida that aired live on Bleacher Report’s streaming service. The match was booked before the inaugural AEW PPV event, Double or Nothing, in May.
Cody beat his older brother at Double or Nothing in a match that was praised by many fans. After the match, despite going through a blood bath of a contest, Cody embraced Dustin and offered him to be his tag team partner.
No matches involving all four stars have been officially announced by AEW to take place at the All Out pay-per-view event on Saturday, August 31st at the Sears Centre in Chicago, IL, which has already sold out. There was a match teased for The Young Bucks, which you can read about here.
It appears that Dustin will fully transition into his role with the promotion that launched back in January as a backstage agent.
What are your thoughts on this match and do you agree that the right stars went over in this match?
Among the preparation for his upcoming match against the Young Bucks and his role as the Executive Vice President of the company, Cody Rhodes somehow still found time to do a small Q&A session.
The former WWE Star held the session from his Twitter
account and he answered questions related to things like the worst match he has
ever wrestled and more.
He started with a question about AEW when a fan asked what
is the one thing that has happened within their upstart All Elite Wrestling
promotion which he is thankful for.
Replying to it, the company EVP said that he is thankful for the whole thing. He said that nothing like this has happened in decades and as a fan of wrestling, this is a dream as well as a responsibility.
The whole damn thing. The whole team. The fanbase. Nothing like this has happened in decades. As a fan of wrestling, this is a dream. A lot of responsibility. https://t.co/YKFFhx25df
During the session, Cody also revealed the worst match he
has ever had claiming that a tag match with Zack Ryder in Charlotte, North
Carolina was his worst.
Explaining the reason behind it, Rhodes revealed that they had a sold-out show with a hot crowd but their match had to be stopped 10 seconds after it started because Ryder got a nose bleed and per Rhodes, he caused a scene backstage due to it.
Tag match in charlotte where Zack Ryder got a nose bleed from hitting himself in his face on his entrance.
Hot crowd. Full house. Ref stopped the match 10 seconds after the bell. I threw an epic immature tantrum backstage. https://t.co/5ZNz6nhvAr
Apart from this, Cody also talked about his ring gear for Fight For The Fallen and All Out, his favorite wrestlers of the Joshi Style and more. You can head over to his Twitter profile to check out the full session.
AEW Executive President Cody Rhodes showed off a nasty cut on the back of his head in a photo that he shared on his official Twitter account.
At the time of the incident, it was noted that he had to get 12 stitches. It turns out that he actually had to receive 10 stitches. Rhodes shared this photo along with the update:
The cut happened at the Fyter Fest event over the weekend following his match against Darby Allin, which went to a 20-minute draw. Post-match, Shawn Spears hit Rhodes in the head with a steel chair.
This caused controversy online as Rhodes turned his head and didn’t put up his hands. As a result, Rhodes was bleeding from the back of his head. This was an accident as the chair was supposed to be gimmicked but the back of the chair that wrapped around his head is what caused the cut.
Private Party Signs Full-Time With AEW
Not only did Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) impress fans with their latest match but also AEW officials including The Young Bucks (Nick & Matt Jackson).
Matt Jackson noted on Twitter today that he and his brother offered the tag team contracts with contracts following their three-way tag team match that took place on the AEW Fyter Fest pre-show. They join an already stacked tag team division in AEW.
All Elite Wrestling has become the most trending commodity in the world of professional wrestling and everyone has thoughts about it. A particular event made more waves during the company’s Double or Nothing show during which Cody Rhodes smashed Triple H’s throne while making his entrance.
WWE Hall of Famer and Legend Ric Flair who is close friends with AEW President Tony Khan, spoke to WrestlingInc. on their WINCLY Podcast and gave his opinion on Cody smashing the throne with a sledgehammer.
Flair believes that Cody went straight for Triple H because The Game is a top guy. “If you are going to make a statement, Hunter’s a top guy,” said Flair.
“Hunter is a disciple of the business and could not have come along at a better time in wrestling than he did. Then of course marrying Stephanie and he’s got a work ethic just like Vince has. In my mind, if something ever happens to Vince, God forbid, Hunter will be the one running the company.”
And that is how a statement is made, according to The Nature Boy. “So, that’s how you get someone’s attention. You jump on a guy. When they are talking about you, you’re doing something good. That’s a good saying in this business.”
It appears that Cody Rhodes has his next feud lined up and it all started during his latest match.
Rhodes went to a draw with Darby Allin in their match at the Fyter Fest event after twenty minutes. This was billed as one of the top matches on Fyter Fest. It was also the highest profile match in Allin’s career up to this point.
Post-match, Shawn Spears, formerly known as Tye Dillinger, hit Rhodes in the head with a steel chair. Rhodes turned his head and didn’t put up his hands. As a result, Rhodes was bleeding pretty good from the back of his head.
Although not confirmed, it appears that the storyline that AEW is telling will lead to an eventual match. This match won’t take place at AEW’s next event, Fight for the Fallen, on July 13, 2019, from Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida as Rhodes has a match booked.
He and his brother Dust will take on The Young Bucks (Matt Jackson and Nick Jackson) in a tag team match. AEW could be booked this match at the All Out pay-per-view event in August.
ComicBook.com has published another highlight from their recent interview with AEW Executive VP Cody Rhodes. In this installment, Cody talks about the possibility of former WWE Champion CM Punk joining All Elite Wrestling.
AEW has three shows scheduled for the coming months. On June 29th, Fyter Fest takes place from Daytona Beach, FL at the annual CEO gaming convention. On July 13th, Fight for the Fallen hits Jacksonville, FL. Both are considered “2nd tier” shows, with Fyter Fest streaming for free on B/R Live and Fight for The Fallen expected to get the same treatment.
AEW’s next pay-per-view is ALL OUT from the Sears Center outside Chicago, IL. The card is shaping up to be must-see, with two matches confirmed:
Chris Jericho vs. Hangman Page to crown the first AEW World Champion
Jon Moxley vs. Kenny Omega
With AEW gaining momentum ahead of its premiere on TNT this fall, there’s naturally been speculation that the organization will play the ultimate wild card and sign CM Punk. ALL OUT will be a stacked show either way, but the debut of CM Punk would send shockwaves throughout the industry.
Cody told Comic Book that The Elite was pleasantly surprised last year at All In when they did not hear a single CM Punk chant. He knows wrestling fans and the Chicago audience in particular still love Punk, but it was gratifying that fans were focused on the show that was being presented instead of a possible surprise appearance. That said…
“I’ve been very honest about that door remains opened. The fans have never given up on CM Punk and if he wanted to be part of AEW we would do everything in our power to make him part of it.”
For now, AEW’s focus is putting on the best show possible. They have 25-35 brand new stars that they’re working on getting over, including Britt Baker, MJF, Jungle Boy and Kylie Rae. They’d love to have CM Punk, but the focus of All Out will be crowning AEW’s inaugural World Champion.
Rhodes continued: “That door will forever remain open to CM Punk. He was very good to me in OVW. He was a great person to learn from in the ring. I had a good relationship with him. That door will remain open, but for All Out the main focus for me is Hangman Page and Chris Jericho to determine the very first AEW World Champion.”
Tickets for AEW: ALL OUT go on sale this Friday at AEWTIX.com.
WWE held the quarterly NXT media call on Thursday to promote this weekend’s NXT Takeover XXV event. While fielding calls from the wrestling media, Triple H touched upon the topic of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and the brewing rivalry between the two companies.
WWE struck the first blow in this cold war at the 2019 WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. During the induction of DX, Triple H ribbed DX member (and AEW employee) Billy Gunn by calling AEW a “pissant” company that Vince McMahon could purchase and shut down if he wanted to. Cody Rhodes fired back at Triple H during Episode 14 of AEW’s The Road To Double or Nothing YouTube series. Cody referenced Triple H as a “pissant bodybuilder” that can’t keep up with today’s top stars.
This past week, we had Cody smashing a throne with a sledge hammer at Double or Nothing and Sami Zayn name dropping AEW on Monday’s Raw.
When asked about the back and forth digs between WWE and AEW, Triple H said he referenced AEW at the Hall of Fame because an AEW employee standing right next to him was “the elephant in the room” that night. It was nothing more than that and his remarks were unscripted.
Regarding AEW taking shots at WWE, Triple H said, “For me, I don’t really even think about it to be honest.” He is laser focused on Saturday’s NXT Takeover show. Instead of focusing on other companies’ creative, he wants to make NXT the best it can be.
Cody Rhodes posted an inspirational message on Wednesday, encouraging his followers, “Don’t back down. Do the work.” As much as AEW says they are not positioning themselves as competition to WWE, Cody is clearly ‘leaning in’ to his warm message to Triple H from Saturday night.
Dustin Rhodes has been announced as Cody Rhodes’ opponent for AEW: Double or Nothing.
The identity of Cody’s opponent was revealed Saturday night on a special edition of the Road To Double or Nothing Youtube series.
The crew from The Elite have been teasing that Cody’s opponent is a very personal situation. It doesn’t get much more personal than Cody’s older brother, Dustin.
Dustin says this is not a new beginning for him, because he’s literally done it all after a 30 year career. If this is “one last ride” for him, so be it. But if Cody is trying to put him out to pasture with this match, good luck with that. Despite being brothers, Dustin says his upbringing was very different from Cody’s. He feels that Cody was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and is an egotistical SOB. He’s always looked out for Cody and never once got a thank you for his mentorship and guidance.
