Daniel Bryan Comments On Hulk Hogan Racism Controversy

Dallas, Texas radio show 105.3 The Fan caught up with WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan on Friday to talk about the ongoing Hulk Hogan controversy.

For those unaware, Hogan was released by WWE after an alleged racist rant he made was caught on tape.

Bryan spoke to the Dallas radio show about the controversy, admitting that it caught him off guard.

“I’ve never seen that side of him and it’s crazy, all this stuff, like I just …the first time I heard about it was an interview about 20 minutes ago, because I’ve been doing book-signing stuff like all day [laughs],” said Bryan.

“Yesterday, I got back to my hotel room at about 10-or-11-o’clock last night and then I woke up this morning just in time to start doing phoners, and everyone is like, ‘Hey! What do you think about this thing with Hulk Hogan?’ I’m like, ‘Wait, what thing? What are you talking about?'”

Bryan concluded, “And like, I had no idea. So, yeah, not in any of my dealings with him.”

Kurt Angle Wants His Retirement Match To Be Against Daniel Bryan

TNA star Kurt Angle has posted a new article at his official website talking about who he would like to wrestle his final match against.

Angle said if he could go back to the 1980’s, he’d love to wrestle Ric Flair in his prime. He also says he wished he could have wrestled Bret Hart and talked about his classic battles with the likes of Steve Austin, The Rock, Shawn Michaels, Eddie Guerrero, Brock Lesnar and others.

Angle said he’d love to get in the ring with guys like Roman Reigns, Cesaro, Rusev, Dolph Ziggler and Bad News Barrett, but the man he’d like to retire against is Daniel Bryan. Angle said:

“Epic matches in the future? The first that comes to mind is Daniel Bryan. He is Shawn Michaels reborn. I would love to retire against a wrestler I believe has won over the hearts of millions of fans. How did he win their hearts? He’s that good. Give me 30 minutes with Daniel Bryan and I will give you the match of the century.”

Daniel Bryan Says He’s Medically Cleared To Wrestle

Daniel Bryan appeared on the Cheap Heat Podcast this week to discuss his in-ring future. Bryan said he’s been medically cleared to wrestle again by his doctor based out of Phoenix, but WWE’s doctor is still hesitant to clear him. Bryan said he understands WWE’s position, but he feels great and has no doubt he’ll wrestle again.

Bryan also appeared on The Buzz with Jimmy Traina to promote his new book,Yes!: My Improbable Journey to the Main Event of WrestleMania. Here are some highlights from the interview, transcribed by FOX Sports:

His Recovery Process:

“I feel great. And it’s just a matter of getting cleared by doctors. Their whole clearance process is more difficult than people would think. … That’s the biggest issue. I will wrestle again. But it’ll be interesting to see when.”

When He Expects To Be Back In Action:

“I don’t know. It’s kind of in the hands of certain doctors, as far as them clearing me and what not. My goal was to be back by SummerSlam, and that’s looking less and less likely, and so then you’re hoping to be back by Royal Rumble.”

Steve Austin Reaching Out To Him Regarding The Neck Injury:

“Steve Austin is actually an amazing human being and he reached out to me. Imagine how weird that is for somebody like me who grew up in that era where it’s like he’s the biggest superstar on the planet Earth. Yeah, he reached out to me and talked to me about it. He was actually giving me some very good advice as far as like, ‘Hey, when you come back, if you come back, you need to do more of this and you need to be doing this.'”

Daniel Bryan On Sex Life With Brie Bella, Backstage Blowup With Triple H

FOX Sports recently published an article containing ten “surprising revelations” from Daniel Bryan’s new autobiography, “Yes!: My Improbable Journey to the Main Event of WrestleMania” Below are some of the highlights.

On Sheamus and Ted Dibiase Jr. interrupting Daniel Bryan the first time he had sex with Brie: “We were naked and about to do our thing when all of a sudden we heard the sound of the door handle turning and then the door popped open. Bri jumped under the covers as Teddy and Sheamus barged into the room, inebriated as can be, wit the ‘Ahhh fella!’ and all that.”

On being slated to wrestle Charlie Sheen at SummerSlam in 2012: “He was going through a very public breakdown at the time, and somehow WWE brokered a deal for him to perform against me. He taped a couple of videos for ‘Raw’ insulting me, and even though it was a goofy match to be in, it would’ve put me in one of the top matches at SummerSlam. Unfortunately, whoever brokered the Sheen deal never got him to sign any sort of contract to do the event, and in typical Charlie Sheen fashion, he bailed.”

On his blowup with Triple H after a match with Randy Orton on RAW: “Usually I don’t get super angry, and when I do it’s barely visible. This time, I was furious and I let everyone know it. When I walked through the curtain, I yelled, ‘What the f— is that all about. That’s f—ing bull—-!’ ‘You need to calm down,’ responded Triple H, who had been communicating with the doctor over the headset and called for the match to be stopped. ‘No, you need to calm the f— down,’ I replied. We were up in each other’s faces and both ready to fight.”

Daniel Bryan Recalls Being Disrespected By A Former Superstar

Daniel Bryan’s new book, “Yes!: My Improbable Journey to the Main Event of WrestleMania” has been released and it’s getting very positive reviews.

Bill Jones of AVClub.com gave the book an A- grade and noted, “Yes! Daniel Bryan’s pro wrestling memoir is worth a read.”

Bryan kicks off a nation wide book tour this week – check out WWE.com for a full list of the scheduled appearances.

One of the notable passages from the book making the rounds this week is a story Bryan tells of the one time he was disrespected by a fellow WWE Superstar.

The bully in question is Ezekiel Jackson, who now wrestles as Big Ryck in Lucha Underground. Jackson had been with the company for several years when Bryan was still a rookie and tried bullying Bryan into giving up his aisle seat on a flight to WrestleMania. Not only did Bryan stand up for himself and put Jackson in his place, but he got backed up by a locker room veteran who schooled Jackson about his place in WWE.

“I will be back wrestling,” wrote the former WrestleMania headliner.

Additionally, Bryan issued a statement responding to what he labeled a “fake” radio interview recap that quoted him as saying his in-ring career was over.

“I appreciate all the thank you’s,” wrote Bryan. “But the entire interview claiming that I said my time is over is a fake. I will be back wrestling.”

Security Guard Files Lawsuit Against WWE For Getting Hit With A Chair

Troy Rivers filed a lawsuit against WWE claiming that he was hit with a chair to the head while working as a security guard at a WWE live event.

Rivers was working a show in Savannah, Georgia when he claims he was struck. “Suddenly, and with no warning whatsoever… struck about the head, neck, and back by a folding chair.” Rivers believes Dean Ambrose (a/k/a Jonathan Good) swung the chair. However, his attorney said that’s unclear.

“We haven’t reviewed the video from the event yet, so we’re bringing in everyone on the card that night,” Rivers’ attorney, Kevin Elwell, told Courthouse News. “Only one guy did it, but we don’t know which one yet.”

The lawsuit lists John Cena, Seth Rollins, Ryback, Kane, Daniel Bryan, R-Truth, and other wrestlers who worked the show as defendants.

Brie Bella On Daniel Bryan And His Current Injury, Nikki’s Reign, And More

At present, former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan is currently out of action following an injury, however he’s working on Tough Enough as a judge alongside Hulk Hogan and Paige.

His wife, WWE Diva Brie Bella spoke recently with The Mirror newspaper in the UK and spoke about Total Divas, and how her husband is currently dealing with the injury that is threatening his career.

Below are highlights from the interview.

On how Daniel Bryan is doing with his career threatening injury:

“You know he’s doing really well, he is, but it has been very hard. This injury unlike any other has just been the hardest because in the past we at least knew ‘okay it’s surgery, this long to recover’, he unfortunately had a relapse, but then we knew how long it would be to recover after the relapse. But with this one it’s so unclear and that’s the hard thing. As a wife, to put myself away from wrestling, as a wife it’s so hard to see your husband go through this. I mean, you know when doctors are starting to think, and you see his dreams come crashing down, it breaks my heart. To the point where I wish I was in his position and he was in mine because I hate seeing him like that. But my husband has so much fight in him and he tells me every day ‘I’m getting back in that ring, just you watch’ and I’m like ‘oh I bet you will’. I have his support 100% and I really think he will get back in there, I really do. He doesn’t see it any other way.”

If she believes that her sister Nikki will become the longest reigning Divas Champion:

“I hope so, I really do. But you know what? The one thing I really like about my sister is when I look at her holding this title, she says ‘I don’t care about the length of the reign, I care about the fight’. She has been the number one champion for putting that title on the line. That’s what Nikki cares about and keeps asking, every week she wants to put the title on the line. She wants to fight for it constantly and that’s her mentality. I really hope she does but she wants the NXT girls to come up and start fighting for it, she has a different outlook, she wants to change the division. I hope we start seeing that soon. The girls down in NXT are tremendous wrestlers and I hope we see them on the roster soon.”

On working a big storyline with her sister Nikki and Stephanie McMahon this time last year:

“Oh, it was the highlight of my career. It was amazing to work with Stephanie McMahon, you know for a Diva it was amazing to have a great story. And to have it happen organically from the Daniel Bryan situation. You know Stephanie and I main evented Raw two weeks in a row. Just as women. We had no men in our storyline, it was just two women who had beef. And then when we were going into SummerSlam to have Vince McMahon tell us that we helped sell the pay-per-view and that was the main story going in, it was incredible. Those are moments I will be telling my grandchildren, that I will remember forever. And the best part too, someone like her was bullying my husband and I got be the bitch that stepped in and put her in her place.”

Kurt Angle On Wanting To Work With Daniel Bryan, His Retirement Match & More

TNA star Kurt Angle recently took part in a Q&A with fans on his official Facebook page. Below are some of the highlights.

On keeping a straight face when singing to Vince McMahon on TV: “It was difficult. Vince told us not to laugh until he yelled “cut”. We held it in long enough to get each one done. It was all improvisation. So much fun!”

On his father: “My father didn’t influence me into wrestling, my brothers did. They all wrestled so I was kind of forced into it, but my Dad was my #1 fan and supporter. He was at every single event I had until he passed when I was 16. He was always supportive, even when I didn’t do so well.”

On his bench press capabilities: “Most ever was 400. I’m not a strong upper body guy…legs and hips got me my GOLD, but I wasn’t weak either. Lol. I don’t bench press anymore, I do more toning and maintainence.”

On who he would want to retire against: “My retirement match would be Daniel Bryan. He’s so polished in the ring. I just don’t know if it’s possible. But I’d Love it!”

On if he wanted to face Undertaker at WM 22 and break the Streak instead of facing him at No Way Out: “Undertaker at Mania was only a thought that Undertaker came up with. I would have preferred him at Mania. Not to break the streak, but for the respect I have for him. At that point in his career, he didn’t have that “Mania Match” he always wanted. But he did after WM 22. Shawn Michaels, HHH. So I’m happy he got the mania matches he deserved.”

Brie Bella Comments On Daniel Bryan’s In-Ring Future

Last month, WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart declared that Daniel Bryan’s in-ring career is over, he just doesn’t know it yet. Bryan’s wife, Brie Bella, remains optimistic that Bryan will in fact wrestle again because he’s “stronger than any man I haver met.”

During an interview with BBC to promote the new season of Total Divas, Brie said there have been “some very positive things in his recovery” – without getting into specific details.

He has such a fight in him so I feel you will see him back in that ring. I know my husband’s dreams. Granted, he’s done so much in the wrestling business – and it’s not over forever – but it’s not supposed to end this way.”

Brie said they talk every day about his recovery and his desire to get back into the ring.

“He needs a lot of prayers. We talk about this daily and he will get back in that ring. That is his goal and I believe in him. I really do,” Brie said.

Update On Daniel Bryan’s Condition: Career In Jeopardy Due To Concussion

Daniel Bryan is currently out of action due to a career-threatening concussion, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Bryan was injured during his match with Sheamus on the SmackDown taping that took place following WrestleMania 31. Bryan was sent home early from the post-WrestleMania European tour, but it’s now apparent the injury took place prior to the tour.

WWE has been keeping the nature of Bryan’s injury under wraps, but there remains a lot of uncertainty as to whether Bryan will ever be able to wrestle again.

Bret Hart Says Daniel Bryan’s Career Is Over, Explains Why Roman Reigns Isn’t Getting Over

WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart spoke to Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard blog to discuss the state of WWE, Daniel Bryan’s future, Roman Reigns and much more. It’s a great read and definitely worth checking out.

Despite Daniel Bryan telling fans that he’s optimistic about returning to the ring one day, Bret Hart says he’s seen this story play out before and thinks Bryan has wrestled his last match.

“Daniel Bryan is finished,” said Hart. “He’ll never wrestle again. I don’t think he knows it yet. I feel terrible about Daniel Bryan. For all intents and purposes, he had the exact same thing happen to him that happened to me after Bill Goldberg kicked me in the head [ending Hart’s career].

“One day, you learn it’s over. Doctors tell you that you can’t wrestle and you’ll never wrestle again. I lost millions of dollars because of that. I pray that it’s not the same for Daniel Bryan.”

Hart also talked about why Roman Reigns didn’t get over the way WWE expected, and sees a strong similarity between Reigns’ character and a former rival of his.

“It was so manufactured that it hurt someone who was naturally getting over on his own,” said Hart. “As soon as the company decided they were going to make him the star, people started to sour on him. Roman Reigns is a really good wrestler and he’ll find his path. He turned the corner at WrestleMania when the fans accepted him on his own merit just ‘cause he had a great match.

“But, in the creation of Roman Reigns, he seems to now be a lot like Triple H’s character. Long hair, indestructible, no facials, he’s always angry, and there’s no softness in his eyes, so it’s very hard to get sympathy. All of that was poorly thought out.

Other topics discussed include the passing of Dusty Rhodes, Dustin and Cody, Seth Rollins and much more.

Sheamus In Line For WWE Championship Run, Original Plans For MITB

Following his Money in the Bank win this past Sunday, it looks like Sheamus could be in line for a run with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship over the next year.

Sheamus earning the MITB contract was a result of his planned win from last year being derailed as the result of numerous factors, including CM Punk leaving the company and Daniel Bryan’s various injuries.

The plan was for Sheamus to turn heel last year and face Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania XXX, however CM Punk leaving the company, the WWE Universe rejecting Batista and Daniel Bryan’s undeniable popularity led to booking changes.

After WrestleMania, Sheamus was going to win the MITB briefcase, but Bryan’s injury resulted in last year’s MITB match being for the WWE Championship. It was decided that John Cena was the best choice to win the belt and go on to face Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:

“The win means Sheamus is likely to take the title some time over the next year from whatever babyface beats Rollins for the title. Headlining with a new name in the mix is a good idea. But Sheamus, even with the change in look, is far from being a new name. I’m not sure that Sheamus is thought of by fans at the level of a guy who at this point should win the title or even headline a PPV in a singles match.”

Daniel Bryan Reveals His Favorite Career Moment

Daniel Bryan recently spoke with The Asbury Park Press to promote his June 28th appearance at iPlay America in Freehold, NJ.  During the interview, Bryan revealed his favorite moment in the wrestling industry, which surprisingly was not his WWE Championship win at WrestleMania XXX.

Bryan said his favorite moment in wrestling took place during the December 9th, 2013 edition of RAW during the ‘Championship Ascension Ceremony’ segment prior to John Cena and Randy Orton’s WWE World Heavyweight Championship unification match. Aside from the staggering reaction Bryan got from the crowd that disrupted the segment, that was the last night his father got to see him wrestle live before he passed away.

Bryan said,

“It was just supposed to be an interview between (on-air authority figure) Triple-H, Randy Orton and John Cena, but the fans there weren’t having it. They just started chanting ‘Yes!’ and ‘Yes!’ and ‘Yes!’ and ‘Daniel Bryan!’ and ‘Yes!’ and more Yes-ing to the point that they were ruining the segment. John Cena is so smart and so quick on his feet, he pulls me forward and asks me something to the effect of ‘What’s your name?’ I said, ‘Daniel Bryan,’ and everybody cheers. ‘Where are you from?’ ‘Aberdeen, Washington.’ Everybody cheers louder. ‘Were either your mom or dad a WWE superstar?’ I said that no, my dad is a log scaler and logging is big in the area, so then everybody cheered.”

“It’s mostly special because that was the last time my dad got to see me wrestle before he passed away. And not only that, but he got mentioned. For me, that’s a very special moment. That’s my favorite, even more so than WrestleMania XXX. If you were to ask me my favorite moment in wrestling, that’d be it.”

Daniel Bryan Remembers Dusty Rhodes

Daniel Bryan recently spoke to App.com about the recent passing of WWE Hall of Famer Dusty Rhodes. Bryan said that Dusty always saw the good in people and did not look down on the current generation of superstars, like some legends tend to do.

“It happens a lot in wrestling and a lot of other things where the older generation looks down at the younger generation and picks him apart. Instead of that, he would say, “Ooh, look at this in this person.” As opposed to looking at their negatives, he was looking at their positives.

He wasn’t afraid to tell you what was wrong with something, but he was also quick to highlight the very good aspects of your nature or things about you that you should focus on. He touched a lot — a lot — of people.”

Bryan, who lost his own father last year, said Dusty’s son Cody shares his engaging personality.

“I have fond memories of Dusty, but I also have fond memories of being in the car withCody while he was talking to his dad. You could hear the way they would banter back and forth and you can see how that vibrancy that Dusty had was passed on to Cody,” Bryan said. “And I don’t know Dustin as well as I know Cody, but you can see it in Dustin too.”

Brock Lesnar’s International Drawing Power, Update On WWE’s Live Special In Japan

The announcement of Brock Lesnar wrestling at what we now know will be a live WWE Network special at Sumo Hall in Tokyo, Japan on July 4th resulted in ticket sales going from average to an immediate, legitimate sell out. Because of the way WWE will be setting up the arena, there is only 6,500 tickets for the event, however WWE will likely announce a figure close to 11,000. Lesnar is scheduled to wrestle Kofi Kingston on the show.

There was still advertising for Daniel Bryan appearing on the tour as recently as this week, although he could appear in a non-wrestling capacity, as Hideo Itami, who will not be wrestling, is also being advertised for the show.

Additionally, Japanese wrestling legend Tatsumi Fujinami may attend one or both of the shows in Japan, with the hook being that WWE put him in their Hall Of Fame earlier this year.

Video: Daniel Bryan Vows To Wrestle Again

Former WWE World Heavyweight champion Daniel Bryan appeared on Miz TV last night during the Elimination Chamber Kickoff Show and vowed to return to the ring one day.

While there was no specific timetable given for his return, this is a positive update for Bryan, who stated on RAW last month that he wasn’t sure if he’d be back in the ring in a few weeks, a few months, or ever.

Bryan has been dealing with an unknown injury since WWE’s post-WrestleMania European tour, which he left early to visit doctors. Bryan underwent an MRI, but it was never revealed what the MRI was for.

Bryan was forced to vacate the Intercontinental Championship he won at WrestleMania, which was won by Ryback last night inside the Chamber. Bryan presented Ryback with the title after his win.
