Possible Reason Behind Daniel Bryan vs. Kane “Stretcher Match” At WWE MITB

There has been some talk as to why WWE decided to go with a Daniel Bryan vs. Kane “Stretcher Match” as opposed to the originally planned “Buried Alive” match if Bryan is able to compete at the upcoming Money In The Bank pay-per-view.

The feeling among many is that this could be a sign that WWE doesn’t plan on ending the feud between Bryan and Kane at Money In The Bank, or whichever pay-per-view Bryan eventually returns at.

  • Who Is Booking Daniel Bryan’s Storyline, Green Power Ranger Mocks CM Punk Again

    – With WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan currently out of action recovering from his recent neck surgery, Vince McMahon has personally been booking his storyline, including the recent angle with Stephanie and Brie and Bryan having to surrender the title at Money in the Bank if he can’t compete. As of this weekend, with Money in the Bank just three weeks away, Bryan’s status for the show remains very uncertain.

    Did Batista Earn Fans’ Respect?

When it comes to Batista’s latest run, one could argue that management hit him with a bait and switch. He was promised that he would win the Royal Rumble and go on to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania. Instead, he was practically booed out of the building after winning the Royal Rumble and ended up tapping out to the Yes Lock at WrestleMania to allow Daniel Bryan to win the championship.

As most probably know by now, Batista “quit” on this past week’s Raw, as he will be taking a few months off to promote his new movie Guardians of the Galaxy. Upon return after a several year hiatus, Batista represented what many feel is wrong with the current state of the WWE.

Batista did not win a title after returning, but he was involved in a memorable feud between Evolution and the Shield.

Batista did not win a title after returning, but he was involved in a memorable feud between Evolution and the Shield.

Instead of relying on the guys that work day in and day out to headline the biggest pay-per-views of the year, the WWE has instead relied upon part-time superstars such as the Rock and Brock Lesnar to headline their biggest events. The reliance on part-time superstars is one of the reasons a certain someone (*cough* CM Punk *cough*) decided to pack his bags and head home.

However, despite all of the criticism Batista has received since returning, one has to wonder if he earned the respect of fans. In my opinion, I think it is fair to say that he did just that.

In the end, Batista was promised the world but was basically handed a half-empty bag of peanuts. Following the Royal Rumble, which featured an extremely hostile Pittsburgh crowd, it became apparent that Batista’s wishes would not be granted. The company was quickly forced to turn him heel, which messed with the dynamics of the WrestleMania main event, which featured a heel champion in the form of Randy Orton.

WWE Putting Pressure On Daniel Bryan To Work Money In The Bank PPV

While nothing is definite right now regarding Daniel Bryan competing at the upcoming Money In The Bank pay-per-view, there’s a feeling among many that even if it’s not the best thing for Bryan’s health, he will end up working a match at the show because of how tough mentally he is, and how he always wants to be in the thick of things.

It’s being said that there is tremendous pressure being put on Bryan in real life to be ready at the MITB PPV, whether it’s being said directly or just strongly implied.

  • Tommy Dreamer Speaks On Seth Rollins’ Heel Turn, House Of Hardcore & More

The following are highlights of a new Busted Open Radio interview with Tommy Dreamer:

With the Seth Rollins turn, is it hard to shock fans these days? “Oh yeah. I mean, that was my job back in the original ECW with the rise of the Internet. The Internet has so…. hurt as well as helped professional wrestling. When you talk to a lot of people, especially with me and I’m always known for having surprises at shows and people are like ‘You got any surprises?’ and I’m like ‘Yeah.’ and they’re like ‘No no no I don’t want to know’. Which is cool. I mean, it’s sometimes better to just sit back and be a fan because then we get so cynical and we want to think things our own way and stuff like that. I think the turn, and this is my opinion, the turn was really really cool. I don’t think it was the right time and the Shield I think still had a lot more mileage to go. And if you also think about it isn’t this kind of like the second Shield turn that they’ve already had? A lot of people sadly in wrestling nowadays forget about stuff. I don’t, and I remember even when everybody was making the big stink about Daniel Bryan never getting the chance, never getting the opportunity. He was already champion twice before. That’s how they, in wrestling, make you want to forget certain things. It’s your memory by what we want to feed you. Me, I remember specifically when Barry Windham turned on Dusty Rhodes. It was like ‘What the hell?!’ or Larry Zbysko turned on Bruno Sammartino. It was like ‘No way did that just happen!?’ Again, I think it’s…. in the long run will be good for Seth Rollins. I’m a huge fan of Seth Rollins work. Again, I think it’s just a little too soon because you think about it the night before they just beat the biggest faction in the business. I also would have probably almost waited to WrestleMania to have them face the Wyatts. They basically did a throwaway match on a throwaway pay per view. I mean, there was big money in 6-man action with the Freebirds and Von Erichs. They (Shield & Wyatts) are some over acts and if you finally make those guys touch, I think you’re on to something. Again, that’s they’re idea, they’re booking. Not mine.”

Is that even possible in this day and age to have a feud go on for more than just 3-4 months because of the over saturation of programming? “I don’t even want to say over saturation of programming. I want to say, it’s more for, I think in their eyes, desperation for ratings and the whole ‘We got to do things NOW NOW NOW’ as apposed to ‘wait and cultivate’. I mean you’re talking to a guy who couldn’t beat a guy for 3 years and even when everybody knew he (Raven) was leaving for WCW, they were still going crazy for all of the false finishes and everything that they did. They knew the guy was leaving. Why would they ever want to believe that he could beat me? They still were doing it throughout the entire match. I was at Lisa Marie’s restaurant. It was probably the first time I watched that match in forever and I’m saying to myself ‘Here during this age of the professional wrestling fan, and they’re still biting on all of the false finishes, and they knew he was leaving.’ So it says something for our hard work. They know, but they don’t 100% know and I think that’s the beauty of professional wrestling. To answer your question, yes, it is a lot harder to try to smarten up the fans or keep surprises because of how the industry, and, well it’s social media. If you think about it, social media changed the main event of WrestleMania and changed the outcome of WrestleMania so it’s an amazing time to be a wrestling fan.”

His take about House Of Hardcore: “I’m a wrestling fan. Always have been, always will be. This is my vision of what professional wrestling is and should be. I just want the fans to go home and say ‘Wow I saw an amazing night of professional wrestling.’ That’s my job to give it to them. Yes at times I say, like today when I spent over probably 1,200 dollars on hotels for all the talent, I said, ‘What the hell am I doing?’ But at the end of the day it’s paid off for me so far and I’m hoping it continues to pay off for me. I came from an amazing place, ECW. It was a great atmosphere and time to be a wrestling fan. I feel independent wrestling is on the rise, and if you give them I don’t care what form of entertainment it is, if you give them quality entertainment, people will come, and so far that’s what I’ve been doing. The obvious choice of Poughkeepsie and Philly, it was a big burden for me. I’m plotting out guy’s rides and how they’re going to get from one place to another, hotels. It’s a lot of work and I’m hoping at the end it’s going to pay off for me. So far I’ve had no complaints for the shows, so that’s really why I do it. I’m not going to be a guy that risks his family’s livelihood or my family’s future because I want to run wrestling shows. It’s also a business. I’m trying to slowly build something. This is going to be my 4th, 5th and next week in the west coast is going to be my 6th shows. I didn’t want to do that many shows but they kind of fell into place. From my 3rd show I had Bully Ray jump me and that aired on TNAs web stream. We had a national wrestling company talking about my company and I helped draw a bigger house for them and, you know, when we did the return match for TNA and, you know, now I can’t say who’s going to be there, but there’s going to be national cameras rolling in Poughkeepsie. There’s some good stuff going on. I’m happy because I’m seeing my hard work pay off. In ECW it changed us and we came so close. I think that’s what kind of what motivated me just cause, you know, I want more options. I want there to be more wrestling promotions. I want wrestling fans to have a choice to choose what they want to see. I don’t want to watch just… I want to see everything. It’s what I grew up on and that’s what I want to continue to do.”

Do fans just want to see pure wrestling, no matter what promotion? “Yes, and, you know it’s funny, there are guys who are past their prime wrestling, but it doesn’t mean they can’t contribute in the ring. Me, I know my time is limited. I’m 43 years old. I still can go out and put on a very entertaining match. Even though with the entire amount of injuries I have, I’m still able to go out there and perform to a higher ability. Even if there are guys who are the older veterans, you know, guys that I watched on television, they’re still out there but you know what? They’re still signing autographs. They’re still partaking in the show and if, you know, to me, that’s where you put them in the tag team matches that are with the younger guys who can go. You look at my show, when you go on the website. My match with the Dudley’s that’s going to be a throwback to the violent era of ECW. Then you have AJ Styles, the New Japan Heavyweight Champion, he’s wrestling Chris Hero, which, to me, that’s going to be a really good wrestling match. I’ve always been a guy that’s stuck by stipulations and to say ‘it’s real to me damn it’, it is. When I did Hardcore Justice for TNA, I wrote that show and I said, ‘That’s the last time me and Raven are ever going to wrestle’. Promoters have asked me to wrestle Raven and I said ‘no. I’m not going to do it’. Same with Terry Funk. My last show in Poughkeepsie was me and Terry Funk for the last time ever tagging together. For me, the last show I’m going to do Tony Neese, Petey Williams and Alex Reynolds. Not a lot of people know them, but they’re matches were so good; they were the semi-main event of my show because they do a whole different insane wrestling style. Petey Williams did a Canadian Destroyer off the top rope.”

  • Lesnar vs. Bryan Planned For SummerSlam, Lesnar-Cesaro Update

We can confirm that WWE has a long-term plan right now to work towards a Daniel Bryan vs. Brock Lesnar match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at this year’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. These plans could change depending on what happens with Bryan and the title heading into the upcoming Money In The Bank pay-per-view at the end of this month.

With Bryan-Lesnar planned for SummerSlam, this would mean that the inevitable showdown between “Paul Heyman Guys” Lesnar and Cesaro, when Cesaro makes his eventual baby face turn, wouldn’t be taking place until after SummerSlam.

Poll: Will Daniel Bryan Wrestle At Money In The Bank?

Daniel Bryan’s Recovery From Surgery Not Going Well

On Monday’s RAW, it was announced that Daniel Bryan is scheduled to defend the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Kane at the upcoming Money in the Bank pay-per-view. If Bryan is unable to return to action on June 29th, he will be forced to surrender the gold and the title will be up for grabs in a MITB ladder match later in the night.

Backstage Update: Daniel Bryan’s Recovery Not Going Well, MITB Plans, More

According to one source — following neck surgery — the strength in Daniel Bryan’s right arm is not only not making gains during his current recovery process, but is actually getting weaker. As a result, WWE has become concerned with how well Bryan is coming along in his rehabilitation.

Apparently the situation surrounding Bryan and the status of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship was the talk of the town backstage at RAW on Monday night in Indianapolis. He was sent back to Pittsburgh to see Dr. Joseph Maroon, who performed his neck procedure, to see why he wasn’t coming along as well as originally expected.

Because of the uncertainty regarding Bryan’s physical status heading into the Money In The Bank pay-per-view on June 29th, WWE made the decision to announce that either he will compete against Kane for the title in a “Stretcher Match,” or the actual Money In The Bank ladder match itself would be for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The reason WWE went with this idea is because of the feeling that they shouldn’t have a pay-per-view without the title on the line. As far as last Sunday’s WWE Payback PPV is concerned, the feeling is that the title was on the line due to the angle that was built up around it heading into the show.

While at this point nothing is definite, the feeling is that if push comes to shove, Bryan will wrestle on the 6/29 PPV, even if he isn’t as physically ready as he would like to be.

It should be noted, by the way, that WWE is also contemplating adding a second Money In The Bank ladder match, if the primary one becomes a match where the vacant title is at stake, where the winner would be the person who captures the briefcase, guaranteeing them a future title shot.

Daniel Bryan Appearing On RAW, Photo Of Damien Sandow As Pete Rose

    – WWE announced on Main Event that WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan will be on Monday’s RAW to respond to Stephanie McMahon’s announcement about Money In the Bank.

Bryan is scheduled to defend against Kane at the show and will have to surrender the championship if he is not able to compete. If the title is vacated, it will be up for grabs in the Money in the Bank ladder match later in the night.

    – The dark match in between Tuesday’s Main Event and SmackDown tapings in Cincinnati saw Sheamus defeat Fandango with a Brogue Kick.

    – Adam Rose defeated Damien Sandow in the dark match that took place prior to Tuesday night’s WWE Main Event tapings. Sandow came out dressed as Pete Rose. According to live reports, it was a very entertaining comedy match. Here’s a photo of Sandow as Pete Rose:

  • Bryan-Bella Wedding Draws Big Numbers For Sunday’s Total Divas

This past Sunday’s edition of WWE Total Divas, which featured the wedding between Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella, earned the series 1.55 million viewers, tying the season high that was set on March 30th.

Sunday’s number is even more impressive given the fact that when Total Divas has been up against WWE pay-per-views in the past, their viewership generally takes a big hit. Additionally, there was also the NHL playoffs, which included the Chicago Blackhawks, with WWE being in Chicago for Payback.

The general belief is that had the show not been up against a WWE PPV show, it would have likely been the most viewed episode of Total Divas in history.

  • Status Of WWE Title Revealed, Money In The Bank Main Events Announced

Stephanie McMahon announced the status of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship during an in-ring segment on the post-Payback edition of WWE RAW.

McMahon stated that if Daniel Bryan is able to compete at the upcoming WWE Money In The Bank pay-per-view in four weeks, he will be defending the title in a stretcher match against Kane. If he cannot, the title will be vacated and then be put on the line for the first time ever in the actual Money In The Bank ladder match itself.

  • Plans Changed For This Year’s WWE Money In The Bank, Cesaro’s Future

The upcoming WWE Money In The Bank pay-per-view, which takes place on June 29th, is expected to feature only one multi-person ladder match for a shot at the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

While no one has been officially decided upon as the projected winner for this year’s Money In The Bank match, the front-runner is said to be up-and-coming WWE Superstar Cesaro.

Considering the fact that “The King Of Swing” has been earmarked for a big singles push, and is slotted as the number three baby face in the company for later this year, behind only John Cena and Daniel Bryan, it’s considered likely that if he indeed wins the Money In The Bank ladder match, he would go on to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion whenever he eventually cashes in his title-shot.

  • Rumored Top Matches For WWE SummerSlam 2014

WWE SummerSlam is less than three months away and we’ve received some information regarding the top matches that have discussed for the show. The planning of these matches dates back to before Daniel Bryan’s neck surgery, however, Bryan will back in action before August so these preliminary matches could still be in the works:

    – Daniel Bryan vs. Bray Wyatt for the WWE World Heavyweight Title.

    – Triple H vs. Roman Reigns. This one has been rumored since around WrestleMania XXX and there’s a very strong chance it will happen. Triple H has handpicked Reigns his next big singles opponent.

    – Brock Lesnar vs. Cesaro. As previously reported, Lesnar is returning this summer and WWE wants him on board for SummerSlam and Night of Champions in September, right after the 6-month mark of the WWE Network.

Brie Bella Talks About Having A “Girl Crush” On Stephanie McMahon, Total Divas, Daniel Bryan

WWE Diva Brie Bella recently spoke with Scott Fishman of The Miami Herald to promote the season finale of WWE Total Divas, which airs this Sunday night on E! Here are some highlights:

Being on Total Divas: “I look at all of us girls, and we all bring something different to the table. I think women can relate to us because I think it’s very common women have to balance career and relationship. At the same time, you never know what the world is interested in at that moment. There was the thinking of, ‘I think it will do well because we have something great here.’ At the same time, are people interested in women fighting in the ring and fighting for relationships outside?”

Daniel Bryan Appearing On The Show: “When I brought it up to Bryan [about doing the show], he was just like, ‘Brie, I don’t think we’re entertaining to watch. I don’t think this is a good idea for you and I.’ I was kind of like, ‘I think you’re right. We are kind of boring.’ It’s because we are very private, so it was hard for us to open up with all the cameras. He is such a good sport. He is just so good to me. With anything I want to do, he is 100 percent for it, even if he thinks I’m crazy. It was very hard for he and I at first, but now we have fun with it. We are so comfortable that sometimes we forget that the cameras are there. Bryan and I came to look at this as people can see he and I are very into the environment. That’s our passion outside of work.”

Rosa Mendes Joining The Cast Next Season: “She has kind of been in this business for a really long time but has never really gone to the top. It will be neat to see her story and her struggles.”

Wanting Babies: “I’m 30, and I’ll be 31 in November. You do get that baby fever where everyone around me is having children. I think in two years Bryan and I would love to have kids. Now it could be sooner, or it could be later. I’m not ready just yet, so for me it’s later. You never know. I just can’t wait to be a mother and to see Bryan as a father because I know he will be amazing at that. It will be crazy.”

Her “Girl Crush” on Stephanie McMahon: “I have to say I have like a girl crush on her. She is just an amazing woman. She is so talented and with the way she is with all the charities to represent WWE. Then she can put that all aside, when she gets to that ring. It’s just insane to me. I just really admire her, and it has been a lot of fun to work with her and learn from her. I’ve really enjoyed it. The storyline is insane, and you never know what it holds. I’m excited for Payback because I think it will have a really great twist.”

Update On Daniel Bryan’s Return, Plans For The WWE World Heavyweight Championship

While this may have no impact on the WWE World Heavyweight Championship angle WWE is hyping up heading into Payback, new official WWE advertising recently came out that had Daniel Bryan listed as wrestling on the SmackDown television taping on June 24th.

The match on 6/24 for Bryan is listed as a six-man tag-team match, with The Shield and himself against Randy Orton and The Wyatt Family.

Several days after Bryan’s neck surgery, WWE sent out new advertising for their July 12th live event at Madison Square Garden, which is the company’s biggest annual non-televised show, which lists him in the main event against Triple H in a street fight.

Considering the fact that the 6/24 date is only a few weeks away, it would seem likely that if WWE wanted to, they could keep the title on Bryan since he would be back in the ring at a reasonable time.

Update: On RAW, Daniel Bryan refused to surrender the WWE World Heavyweight Championship to Stephanie McMahon. Stephanie showed Bryan footage of his wife Brie putting her hands on her two weeks ago when Bryan was stretchered out on RAW, which Stephanie said was grounds for firing. Bryan now has until Sunday’s Payback pay-per-view to decide if he will surrender the title. Whether or not the title is vacated on Sunday or not, it’s still rumored that a new champion will be crowned soon.

Daniel Bryan’s WWE Return Could Take Longer Than Expected

With WWE Payback being this Sunday and the top matches for that show already finalized, there’s a lot of talk behind the scenes that the vacated WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be up for grabs at the June 29th Money in the Bank pay-per-view.

Making that show a “must see event” – we could see one MITB match for the vacated championship and second MITB match, with the usual Money in the Bank briefcase on the line, containing a contract for a future title shot.

  • Daniel Bryan To Be Out Longer Than Expected, Changing In-Ring Style?

Prior to Daniel Bryan’s neck operation last Thursday, WWE was under the impression that he may be able to return to the ring in time to work the Money In The Bank pay-per-view on June 29th. The latest word, however, suggests that WWE may not have an active Daniel Bryan by that point, with the company targeting a potential Battleground in-ring return for him, which would be on July 20th. The SummerSlam pay-per-view in August is viewed as a worst-case scenario for Bryan’s return.

As far as the Money In The Bank PPV is concerned, the WWE creative team has been working on a new card for the show as a contingency plan in case Bryan is not back in the ring by then.

Many past WWE Superstars and wrestling legends have commented recently that Bryan should tone down his in-ring style, as there is actually a lot of concern internally that this recent neck surgery could be the beginning of some serious, long-term problems for Bryan.

Finally, the moves in particular that many feel Bryan should remove from his arsenal include his flying headbutt, missile dropkick and topes.

  • Triple H Talks About Daniel Bryan Surrendering The WWE Championship, “Little Internet Dweebs”

WWE COO Triple H is back for this week’s sitdown interview with Michael Cole. Here are some highlights of the interview, which was taped from London, England:

    – Triple H talked about how in true WWE fashion, they’ve taken over the UK. He said he’ll be going on private tours of the Vatican and the Coliseum in Rome.

    – When asked about Daniel Bryan being home in the United States recovering from neck surgery, Triple H said it’s odd not having the “face of WWE” on tour with them.

    – Cole brought up Stephanie McMahon’s promo from RAW, where she urged Daniel Bryan to show up on next week’s show to surrender the WWE World Heavyweight championship. Triple H says the reason they’re allowing Bryan to surrender the title instead of outright stripping him of it is because Bryan will become a and his “little internet dweebs” will get upset. If Daniel Bryan is a man, he will do what’s “best for business” on RAW. If he doesn’t, The Authority will deal with it.

    – The discussion shifted to The Shield and their upcoming match against Evolution at Payback. Triple H said Evolution is going to put an end to The Shield and eliminate them one by one at Payback. When Payback is over, Triple H guarantees The Shield will no longer exist.

    – Triple H then talked about Bo Dallas’ “debut” on SmackDown this week, touting that he’s the longest reigning NXT Champion in history and is finally getting a shot at the main roster. He also hyped Hulk Hogan being the guest host of this week’s SmackDown from London, saying that Hogan will be making a special announcement about the WWE Network.

Stephanie Urges Daniel Bryan To Surrender The WWE Championship Next Week

On Monday’s WWE RAW from London, Stephanie McMahon made her big announcement about the fate of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

In light of Daniel Bryan’s neck surgery and the fact that he will be out of action for an indeterminate amount of time, she is contemplating stripping him of the gold and awarding it to another Superstar, such as Kane, Bad News Barrett, Batista or her even husband, WWE COO Triple H.

She then clarified that in all seriousness, she is demanding that Daniel Bryan show up at RAW next week and “do the right thing” by personally surrender the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

  • Daniel Bryan’s WWE Return Could Take Longer Than Expected

According to reports, there has been a lot of discussion behind-the-scenes in WWE regarding the two-to-three months that WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan may be on the shelf due to his recent neck operation.
