Jim Ross Blog: Daniel Bryan Joining The Wyatt Family, Kurt Angle At WrestleMania 31

Here are some more highlights from Jim Ross’ latest blog at JRsBarBQ.com:

Daniel Bryan Joining The Wyatt Family: “Getting lots of chatter from a variety of ‘experts’ who have the Daniel Bryan/Wyatt Family storyline all figured out with many condemning it while others are intrigued with it. I am in a ‘wait and see’ mode and prefer to allow it to play out and see where it goes. For some, any thing short of Daniel Bryan being the WWE World Champion won’t work.”

WWE Using Legends: “According to recent internet speculation who ISN’T going to wrestle at WM30? The speculated list of those old timers returning to wrestle at WM30 in Nola and those returning to the Royal Rumble is somewhat comical.”

“WWE needs to use old school/veteran stars to draw eyes to the TV and sell tickets/PPV’s and to then facilitate young stars getting the ‘rub’ or benefiting by the number of new viewers that tune in to a given show. It’s not rocket science but it is about advancing young talents who are sticking around.””

Kurt Angle Returning to WWE: “Because I was asked on Twitter, etc I’d love to see Kurt Angle finish out his career in WWE with a select number of high level matches and a Hall of Fame Induction. That could be another high level attraction at WM31.”

Photos: Daniel Bryan’s New Look As Part Of The Wyatt Family

After joining the Wyatt Family on Monday’s RAW, Daniel Bryan unveiled a new look at Saturday night’s WWE live event from Hampton, Virginia. Prior to Bryan joining the Wyatt Family, Bryan was advertised to wrestle Bray Wyatt in a steel cage match. With Bryan surrendering himself to Wyatt on RAW, it was unclear whether the match would still take place, but it did – sort of.

The two men had separate entrances – and Daniel Bryan was sporting new Wyatt Family ring gear. When the match began, Bryan essentially let Bray Wyatt beat him down and hit him with Sister Abigail for the win. After the match, the Wyatt Family embraced Daniel Bryan and they left together.

Antonio Cesaro Talks About Working With Punk, Bryan & Rollins On The Indy Scene, Chris Hero’s Release

Here are some highlights of what Antonio Cesaro said to the Baltimore Sun during a recent interview:

2013: “Well, I started the year as the United States champion, and now I am not the United States champion. But I’d say I’m part of the most entertaining group in the WWE, and the best tag team right now, the Real Americans.”

Working with CM Punk, Seth Rollins and Daniel Bryan on the Independent Scene: “We’ve been on the road with each other for a long time. I’ve been with guys like CM Punk, Seth Rollins and Daniel Bryan for almost 10 years now. It’s definitely a bond because we all know where we came from. We know we performed in front of 20 or 30 people in some old, rusty building, and now we’re performing on the biggest stage. There’s definitely a pride in that. There’s definitely a bond in it as well.”

Chris Hero’s Release: “It certainly was disappointing. When we signed with this company, we both knew what we were getting into. We both made each other a promise that we would work as hard as possible, whether it’s as a team or singles competitors. I know he’ll wind up on his feet, and he probably already is, and he’ll continue wrestling all over the world.”

Mick Foley Blogs About Daniel Bryan Joining The Wyatt Family

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has published a blog on Facebook talking about Daniel Bryan joining the Wyatt Family. Here’s an excerpt:

“For the record, I am a huge daniel Bryan fan. I thought a Bryan win would have been best for business at “Hell in a Cell”. I think Bryan winning the Royal Rumble, and the potential of 75,000 strong in New Orleans chanting “YES” at the conclusion of Wrestlemania – providing an image for the ages….and sending people home HAPPY – will be what’s best for business in April. But could this recent turn of events with Bray Wyatt be what’s best for business now?

It could be.

Personally, I see the WWE World heavyweight Championship in Daniel Bryan’s future. But in the meantime, he has a chance to do something almost as important and prestigious; he has a chance to help MAKE somebody.

Last month, I mentioned that Bray Wyatt (yeah, I know I called him Way Bryatt on the TLC PPV) had that “IT” thing – those tricky two letters that can spell the difference betweeen a talented performer and a star, between an asset to the company and a main eventer. But even a peformer with that “IT” factor needs something else to get them there – a bridge of sorts to get lead them on that next step of the journey. Every performer in our business needs that intense personal issue, that rivalry, that FEUD that truly puts them on the main event map.”

Undertaker Asks To Work With Top Star At WMXX, Mysterio Update, Cena/Wyatt

– With The Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar currently planned for WrestleMania XXX, it’s worth noting that The Undertaker has specifically asked to work with Daniel Bryan in a match at the show. Whether or not WWE runs with that idea remains to be seen, but obviously if Taker himself is requesting it, it will carry a lot of weight during the decision-making process.

– Rey Mysterio’s leg is said to be getting stronger and he is reportedly trying to work his way back into top ring shape.

– According to one source, John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt is still being discussed as a potential top match for WrestleMania XXX.

Jim Ross Blog: Daniel Bryan Joins The Wyatts, Hulk Hogan At Old School RAW?

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what he said about last night’s RAW and next week’s “Old School” show:

Daniel Bryan Joining The Wyatt Family: “Daniel Bryan is a genuine work horse but I still don’t know exactly what I saw as he left the arena Monday night with the Wyatt Family. Will Bryan now become a pro wrestling ‘villain’ within the Wyatt faction or will Bryan continue to elicit cheers because the fans love chanting “Yes!”?”

“Are the Wyatt’s an antagonist entity or are they simply, bizarrely cool? What heinous acts have the Wyatt’s perpetrated lately to make them disliked? Or does it matter? Just asking…”

Brock Lesnar, Paul Heyman, Batista & The WrestleMania 30 Main Event: “Good to see Heyman and Lesnar back on RAW although I doubt that we see them together that much between now and WM30. I hope that I’m wrong on that one. Lesnar has and will sell PPV’s if he is exposed strategically on Monday Night Raw. What is or isn’t strategic is up for debate.”

“Lesnar just jumped to the top of my short list of favorites to win the Royal Rumble…..or Batista. Will the WrestleMania 30 Main Event be Orton vs. Lesnar? Or Orton vs. Batista? Or none of the above? Hmm.”

Next Week’s Old School RAW: “The promos for next week’s Old School Raw looked good and I’m sure that the “alums’ will have a great time catching up next week …How cool would it be to see Hulk Hogan next Monday night in Baltimore? That’s the epitome of ‘Old School” booking for this themed RAW. (Someone has already said out loud, (“NO! Save Hulk for PPV!”) One would expect WWE will have a few surprises up their sleeve for Monday night as it relates to the old school talents.”

“However, having Ric Flair on the show makes it feel very special. I haven’t seen Naitch since Summer Slam but that’s another story…. ”

Bray Wyatt, CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler & More React To Daniel Bryan Joining The Wyatt Family

– Above is the latest Backstage Fallout video from Monday’s RAW, featuring CM Punk, Big E Langston, Brodus Clay and Curtis Axel giving their thoughts on Daniel Bryan joining The Wyatt Family.

– Bray Wyatt and Dolph Ziggler also tweeted the following after Bryan joined the Wyatt Family on RAW

https://twitter.com/WWEBrayWyatt/status/417906452444221440

https://twitter.com/HEELZiggler/status/417895009409851392

– Among the WWE legends returning next week for Old School RAW is former tag team champion Mike “IRS” Rotunda, father of Bray Wyatt. This will be the first time they’ve appeared on a WWE broadcast together – it should be interesting to see if they have any interaction on the show.

Videos: Daniel Bryan Joins The Wyatt Family, Lesnar & Heyman Return

The final WWE RAW show of 2013 ended with Daniel Bryan joining The Wyatt Family. The RAW main event featured Daniel Bryan facing Luke Harper first. If Bryan defeated Harper, then he had to beat Erick Rowan. If he defeated them both, then he could get his hands on Bray Wyatt. Bryan ended up beating them both. When Bray’s turn to face Bryan came up, he stopped himself from attacking Bryan. Bryan ended up telling Bray he was right. He said fans chanted “Yes!” in every building he went to, and “they” still didn’t care. Bray then hit Bryan with his Sister Abigail finisher, but the two still ended up leaving together. Bryan stopped at the top of the stage to think over his decision, but ultimately decided to do it anyway.

Also on RAW on Monday night, both Brock Lesnar and Paul Heyman returned. The two returned as part of Triple H’s “blockbuster announcement.” They announced their intentions on becoming the WWE World Heavyweight Champion by defeating whoever wins the Royal Rumble main event between John Cena and Randy Orton. This led to Mark Henry coming out, only to get beat up by Lesnar. Lesnar speared Henry through the barricade on the floor and then hit him with an F-5 on the floor.

Watch Michael Hayes Fall At WWE Live Event, WWE Polls Fans On Daniel Bryan’s Best Match, Victoria

– At Thursday’s WWE live event at Madison Square Garden in New York City, WWE backstage worker Michael Hayes stumbled over the top rope while entering the ring for a segment with a Big Show and Booker T. It was believed to be on a purpose, since Roman Reigns similarly stumbled during a live event last month in Dublin, Ireland, which CM Punk mocked at the following Monday’s Raw event in Manchester, England.

Video: Roman Reigns Falls While Entering The Ring At Live Event

A fan in attendance managed to capture footage of Hayes’ fall.

– The official WWE website has issued a poll on Daniel Bryan’s best match of 2013. His match against John Cena at SummerSlam, which saw him capture the WWE Championship, currently leads at 47%. It is trailed by his partnership with Kane and The Undertaker against The Shield on the Apr. 22 Raw (14%) and a Street Fight against Randy Orton on June 24 (11%).

– As reported earlier, Lisa Maria Varon, famously known as Victoria, attended Thursday’s WWE live event at the AllState Arena in Chicago, Illinois as a fan. One WWE employee would like to see the former Women’s Champion return to their ring.

“You should be experiencing them from the ring,” Joey Styles, WWE’s VP of Digital Media Content, wrote to Varon on Twitter in response to her message noting that it was her first WWE experience in the audience.

Jim Ross Q&A: Undertaker’s Legendary Status, WWE Network, Bryan/Guerrero

The following are highlights from a recent Jim Ross online Q&A update:

On when The Undertaker reached the legendary status that he has today: “I don’t think that it was one thing or one day but his body of work over time that helped him earn his amazing legacy. The Streak has become largely his claim to fame.”

On who the better wrestler is: Eddie Guerrero or Daniel Bryan: “I won’t answer this because one is damned if one does and damned if one doesn’t. They are both different, both excellent and both stars. Eddie got his break and Bryan is working on his.”

On the WWE Network: “Honestly, don’t know the particulars of the WWE Network except that it is going forward from all that I hear. I don’t know the template. I do hope that it works for all involved. It might give some older talents some re-occurring gigs.”

  • Daniel Bryan Talks About His Dream Opponent, If He’s “Made It” Yet & More

WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan was interviewed by the Masked Man of Grantland.com. Here are some highlights of what Bryan said about:

Does He Feel That He’s “Made It” Yet? “To be honest, I don’t feel like I’ve made it. But “making it” is different than being satisfied with what you’ve done. If I got hurt today, I’d be very satisfied with what I’ve done, but I would have said that before I even made it to WWE. I was happy with what I accomplished on the independent scene and internationally — it was already much more than what people ever thought I could do and what even I thought I could do. But one of the things that keeps me going is the pursuit of constantly being better, and I haven’t “made it” like I’m at a point where I’m happy to stay at this level. I was actually talking to John Cena about this. He told me Steve Austin talked to him at one show and asked him how things were going, and John said, “The show’s going pretty well.” And Austin looked up at a part of the arena that was tarped off — the building was maybe 90 percent sold out — and he said, “Back when I was here, these arenas were full.” And that motivated John. There’s always something to strive for. So what do I need to do to feel like I’ve made it? I need to be the main-event guy, the top guy, and we need to be selling out every arena every night. Maybe then I’ll feel like I’ve done what I need to do.”

His Dream Opponent From A Past Era: “For me, the honest answer is Shawn Michaels. It’s sad because I’ve always considered him the best — he trained me — and I’ve never wrestled him. But there’s also the fascination of going back and wrestling somebody like Andre the Giant or the Ultimate Warrior — those guys you grew up watching as a kid just have such a special aura.”

If He Gets Embarrassed Watching His Old Matches: “Oh god, yes. When WWE showed footage of me wrestling at Shawn Michaels’s old promotion, I was like, “Please don’t show this.” It was cool for the story because they had some stuff with me and Shawn, but anybody who goes back and watches their first matches is going to be embarrassed. To put your 18-year-old self on national television — well, it lightens up your ego a little bit. But you know, I didn’t just start out like this. I had to work hard to get good.”

How Daniel Bryan is Different Than Bryan Danielson: “There are so many differences, but mostly I think it’s in my approach to character. In Ring of Honor, I was doing a thing where I was a master wrestler — that was my character. Now in WWE I’m an underdog, and that’s the way I have to approach my matches. I have to fight from underneath and overcome. It’s the opposite of my last days in the indies, where anybody I wrestled was the underdog, because the fans always expected Bryan Danielson to win. In WWE, the size difference is so much greater, the guys are so much bigger, and that just wouldn’t make sense.”

Jim Ross Blog: Batista’s WWE Return, TNA, Wade Barrett, More

The following are highlights from a new online blog by WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On Batista’s WWE return: “Good to hear WWE talk of Batista’s return on January 20. Dave is a major player and WWE has the opportunity to capitalize on his established reputation and accomplishments. Hopefully, there is a long term, strategic plan for ‘The Animal’ that has been established.”

On Daniel Bryan, Goldust, Cody Rhodes and The Wyatt Family: “6 man tag with Rhodes Brothers and Daniel Bryan vs. the Wyatt Family seemingly did what it was supposed to do. Reasons the match worked…there is an established story and the talents had the ring time to tell said story. No fan favorites are executing better in WWE, IMO, than the Rhodes boys and Bryan.”

On TNA and three-man announce teams: “On a recent interview, I mentioned that one of the reasons that I had no interest in going to TNA was that I had no desire in affecting the chemistry of broadcasters Mike Tenay and Taz. Yes, a three man booth would obviously be possible but I’m not a big fan of three man announce teams in pro wrestling, as a rule. Mike and Taz do a great job especially when they are on point calling holds, near falls, etc and keeping a ‘sports feel’ on the in ring action. They certainly don’t need me. I did enjoy the three man announce team of McMahon, King, and me back in the day. It’s good having the boss sitting right next to you as it helps greatly with communication and creative direction. In those days, a quick huddle, so to speak, during commercial breaks was timely and efficient. With that said and as I’ve mentioned here before, I see my broadcasting days in pro wrestling aka sports entertainment as history. It’s time to do other things that interest me and my style of play by play really doesn’t fit in today’s genre.”

On Wade Barrett: “I’d still like to see William Regal associated with “Bad News” Barrett, in some manner, of whose new, TV persona I haven’t quite understood as of yet. I applaud Barrett getting some TV time because that’s where it all starts and am anxious to see where his creative journey takes him. The talented Brit has a marketable upside, IMO.”

  • Daniel Bryan vs. Santa Claus, Happy Holidays Message From DDP (Video)

    – The official WWE website is currently running a poll asking fans who has the better beard — Daniel Bryan or Santa Claus. At last check, Bryan was winning the poll with 65 percent of the vote.

    – Former WWE and WCW Superstar Diamond Dallas Page has added the following holiday video from his “Accountability Crib” to his official YouTube channel:

  • NEW Photo Of Vince & Triple H Backstage Working During WWE RAW
  • Top 5 Superstars To Look Out For In 2014

In pro wrestling, the mindset of a fan is: “what’s next?” A great match or moment happens at a pay-per-view and immediately afterwards the question becomes, “how do they follow this up on RAW tomorrow?” So while 2013 had its’ share of good moments and bad, as we near the end of the year, the question inevitably becomes, “what’s next?”

If you read the headlines here on the website on a regular basis, when it comes to WWE, it appears as if 2014 will be a year where some new blood breaks through at the top level. Where guys who are just getting started in WWE break through to that next level and become legitimate WWE Superstars. Where guys who aren’t quite there just yet, but are so close, finally reach that level. They become main event players. Who will these people be? Well, in WWE, you never really know, but let’s take a look at five guys who seem to be well on their way.

As Santa Claus fills up the gas tank in his mighty sleigh, as the New Year looms right around the corner, we’re going to take a look at three Superstars currently in WWE that will likely come into their own and reach the top of the profession within the year. It’s time to take a look at the “Top 5 Superstars To Look Out For In 2014.”

    #5. Damien Sandow

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross wrote about this guy recently. WWE Hall Of Famer Mick Foley talks about him on a regular basis. WWE Hall Of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin has said if this guy shows a little bit more of a mean streak, he’ll be well on his way, and Damien Sandow has been doing exactly that in recent weeks. He’s a talented performer who is stuck in a pretty lame gimmick, yet he somehow makes it work. He’s entertaining, period. If the guy gets some real opportunities in 2014, which I feel he will, he could legitimately break through to the next level. Will he become the face of WWE in 2014? Doubtful. Will he ever be the face of WWE? Probably not. But will he be stuck on pay-per-view Kickoff Show matches that serve little to no purpose? I don’t think so. I think by this time next year, Damien Sandow will be a legitimate Superstar. He may not headline many shows, but I think this is one of the few guys on the current WWE roster with the talent and potential to perform at a higher level than that in which he currently resides. I think Damien Sandow is somebody to look out for in 2014.

    #4. Big E. Langston

Big E. Langston is a different situation altogether. While he may not shock and awe wrestling fans with his match quality, or his promo ability for that matter, he has that certain something that WWE looks for. I wouldn’t necessarily call it an “it factor” as much as I would the ability to lift a lot of heavy weights. Vince McMahon, and to a lesser extent Triple H, both of whom have a strong passion for bodybuilding, (remember the WBF, everybody?) seem to have set their sights on Langston as a future Superstar in WWE. There may be a whole heap of performers on the current WWE roster that are more deserving of some big opportunities, but from all accounts, it appears as if 2014 will be a big year for the muscled-up Tampa native. Big E. Langston is somebody to look out for in 2014.

Batista’s Role When He Returns To WWE, Jim Ross On Bryan vs. Punk & More

    – WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross recently commented on the possibility of Daniel Bryan vs. CM Punk at WrestleMania 30. He wrote at JRsBarBQ.com:

“On the surface, yes, but it’s all about the presentation and the reason for them wrestling. It’s unlikely to occur but I have no idea of the WM30 card.”

    – With the news of Batista returning to WWE leaking online this past weekend, Dave Meltzer is speculating that WWE could have Batista is returning before the Royal Rumble, win the Rumble match and go on to face Randy Orton for the WWE World Heavyweight championship at WrestleMania XXX.

We’ve heard that Batista will be involved in a program with Triple H and Randy Orton upon his return, playing off their past as part of the Evolution faction.

    – Here’s the latest installment of WWE Backstage Fallout featuring behind-the-scenes interviews from Friday’s SmackDown:

Batista Still Being Advertised For WWE Show, Tag Match Edited Off SmackDown, Eddie Edwards

    – Though UNLVTickets.com’s advertisement promoting an appearance by Batista for WWE’s upcoming live event at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, February 16, 2014 was removed, there are still some radio ads in the area saying he’ll be at the show.

    – A Six-Man Tag Team Match pitting Daniel Bryan, Cody Rhodes and Goldust against The Wyatt Family that was taped Wednesday night in San Antonio, Texas was edited off Friday’s SmackDown broadcast on Syfy.

    – Eddie Edwards, who is currently working for WWE on a trial basis in Orlando, Florida, said at last night’s Pro Wrestling Guerrilla show in Reseda, California said that it would be his farewell show. Edwards, however, did not reveal his future plans.

    – Independent wrestler Slyk Wagner Brown now runs a wrestling school in Waterbury, Connecticut. Those interested in visiting the school can contact him at SWB4Real@yahoo.com. He says he trained Eddie Edwards and former TNA Knockout Roxxi.

Backstage Update On CM Punk’s TLC Match, Roman Reigns’ Future & More

The reason CM Punk was booked to win against The Shield at the recent WWE TLC pay-per-view was for a couple of different reasons. First and foremost, WWE had already booked John Cena and Daniel Bryan to lose their matches at the TLC show, and the feeling was all three couldn’t lose on the same pay-per-view.

Another reason WWE gave Punk the win was because it added to the drama surrounding The Shield currently, since they decided to have Roman Reigns spear Dean Ambrose, setting up the eventual pin for Punk.

This past Monday night on RAW, WWE had Roman Reigns get the win on Punk with the idea that Reigns is eventually going to be the real “golden boy” of the company, since he has the look and the sports background that WWE officials prefer, as opposed to Punk and Bryan, both of which will never fully get past the size and look issues that WWE has.

Additionally, Punk was considered to be “protected” from the loss with the feeling that having him do a promo segment with Shawn Michaels before the match would leave a larger impression on fans than Punk actually getting pinned.

Stephanie McMahon At WWE Holiday Party (Photo), JR On HBK’s In-Ring Return

    – WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently shared his thoughts regarding the rumors of Shawn Michaels coming out of retirement to wrestle another match, and whether or not that would offend The Undertaker, who “sent him into retirement” by beating him at WrestleMania. JR noted, “I don’t think HBK is returning to the ring as a wrestler. If he did it would be at WrestleMania and I’d like to see him wrestle Daniel Bryan or CM Punk. Taker wouldn’t be offended whatsoever.”

    – Stephanie McMahon recently tweeted the following photo from the WWE Holiday party that was held in Stamford, Connecticut on Wednesday night.

  • More Backstage News On WWE’s Reaction To RAW Ending In Seattle

While the final segment of the Seattle-based RAW “go-home” show for the TLC pay-per-view received rave reviews online, apparently it ended up being nowhere near the way it was scripted to go. While WWE officials expected Daniel Bryan to receive a big pop in Seattle, given his Washington-based roots, they did not expect it to be as big as it ended up being.

Following the segment, WWE officials apparently praised John Cena for his ability to pick up on the crowd reactions and adapt. They enjoyed Cena’s decision to incorporate the reaction, and Daniel Bryan himself, into his promo, but then ultimately bring the focus back to his TLC match against Randy Orton.

WWE.com has published the latest weekly sit-down interview between Michael Cole and Triple H.

The interview this week focuses on a few different topics, including Randy Orton’s low-blow of Daniel Bryan during the RAW main event. The Game joked that Bryan “came up on the short end” in the match.

He also addressed CM Punk’s comments about him on the show. Based on what we’re hearing, this is the start of a feud that will culminate in a match at WrestleMania.

Video of Daniel Bryan Proposing To Brie Bella

Daniel Bryan spoke with Mike Jones from DC101 in Washington, DC earlier today. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Monday night’s main event on RAW: “He doesn’t want to lose, and I’m not afraid of losing. I’ll go out there and try my best, and do the best I can, and if I lose, you shake the guy’s hand at the end of the day and say tonight you got one on me, but Randy’s incapable of doing that. And um, I don’t know if that’s just his personality, you know, and that’s very very frustrating because last night I felt like I had him.”
