John Cena Undergoing Elbow Surgery After SummerSlam

As we reported yesterday, current WWE Champion John Cena’s elbow injury is worse than is being let on. While the specific severity of the injury is unclear at this point, it is known that his arm is in really bad shape.

According to reports, Cena’s injury is bad enough that last week WWE officials made the decision for him not to wrestle until the SummerSlam pay-per-view this Sunday. Additionally, Cena is reportedly going to be taking time off after the match to have surgery on the arm, which could keep him out of action for a while.

Whether or not this means Daniel Bryan will win the WWE Championship at SummerSlam is anyone’s guess, but odds are pretty likely that he will if Cena won’t be around after the pay-per-view. Then again, Money In The Bank winner Randy Orton could always walk out of the building as WWE Champion as well.

HBK Speaks On Training Daniel Bryan, His Work In ROH, Success In WWE

The following are highlights from a recent WWE.com interview with WWE Hall Of Famer Shawn Michaels. The interview focuses on HBK’s former student, Daniel Bryan.

On whether or not he saw Daniel Bryan having a future in WWE due to his size: “I always tried to be honest with him. I knew he was talented. And I knew he was going to face the same uphill battle that every guy his size does, myself included, and it was simply a matter of if he had the patience and the ability to adjust in areas where other people thought he needed to adjust — as far as personality, character, things of that nature.

“I saw him as a young man who had a very good blueprint for how he wanted to work out his career as far as the order in which he wanted to progress, which was learning his in-ring skills and honing them to a point where he felt very secure in his ability and could then build on that incredibly solid foundation. And he was always very open and excited. It certainly wasn’t very tough to get him to go to Japan the first time. When that opportunity came, he was still at our school. I knew he was one of the guys that we wanted to send and he was thrilled about it and he fell in love with it. I think that was one of his building blocks, certainly, in establishing the phenomenal in-ring ability that he has today.”

On his work prior to WWE in Japan and Ring Of Honor: “Well, I kept up a little bit with the things in Japan. I would get updates on him from guys I corresponded with, and then certainly when I came back to work in WWE on a full-time basis, I always heard things through the grapevine. Then, obviously, he came in on a number of occasions for tryouts. And through, again, other guys in the locker room, I always heard how he was progressing in Ring of Honor.

“But honestly, I was never really concerned about checking up on him. In my opinion, I knew it was only a matter of time. Every time he came in for a tryout, so to speak, I would ask him how it went and then I would sort of say, ’It’s really up to you whenever you want to leave what you’re doing and come here. And when you come here, it will still be an uphill battle.’ Not to imply in any way, shape or form that I called him years ago and I take any credit for anything, because I don’t.”

The Bella Twins Talk Pros & Cons Of Dating Wrestlers On The WWE Roster

The official WWE website recently ran a featured piece on The Bella Twins and their dating preferences. The interview features Nikki and Brie Bella (who currently date John Cena and Daniel Bryan) talking about upsides and downsides to dating someone on the WWE roster.

Nkki Bella offered the following comment: “The one upside is, even though we’re on the road all the time, we actually get to see our boyfriends a lot, which usually doesn’t happen, because usually the boyfriends are at home. So that’s def a perk. Downside … I haven’t found one yet. When I do, I’ll let you know, but as of right now I’m still on cloud nine and everything is perfect.”

Brie Bella said: “I’d actually have to agree with Nikki with the perk. Being that we’re always gone and not home, it’s nice to see our boyfriends on the road. But, gosh, the downside would have to be that because we’re so busy in this world together, when we go home there’s still the craziness and busyness because we’re both in chaos. I feel like sometimes we always have to remind ourselves, “We need to slow down. Just because our work environment is crazy, doesn’t mean we need to bring the craziness home.”

Steve Austin Interview: Daniel Bryan Having The “It Factor”, Cena’s In-Ring Work & More

Stone Cold Steve Austin gives his thoughts on Daniel Bryan, Cena, and Ring of Honor in an Interview on AfterBuzz TV

Los Angeles, CA –(afterbuzztv.com)– “Stone Cold” Steve Austin made an appearance on AfterBuzz TV’s Smackdown and Redneck Island aftershows Sunday night. In his appearance, Austin gives his thoughts on Daniel Bryan, John Cena and Ring of Honor. He also talks about how the industry has changed since his time. Links to Steve Austin’s interview can be found at YouTube & iTunes.

Here’s what Steve Austin said about:

How Wrestling Has Changed: “It’s a different game out there right now. These kids aren’t getting enough time to tell the whole story….the product inside the ring is at a more accelerated pace, so what comes with that is not total selling of everything you can sell. You do something to elicit a response…It’s a short attention span theater and guys are moving faster than I’d like them to be, they’re overselling a lot of stuff in the wrong way and underselling stuff in the wrong way as well,” says Austin, “Everybody seems to be coming from the same camp these days. That has its pros and its cons.”

Ring of Honor: “I like Ring of Honor, but sometimes these guys overwork themselves and try to go too much into the nuances, the shoulder slapping and the pulling up of the trunks, you know the little time fillers…They almost go back to a caricature of what was real deal wrestling. I do like the product.”

Daniel Bryan Having The “It Factor”: “You’ve got to have it. You look at a cat like Daniel Brian, who is a hard worker, can wrestler, can tell a great story. The it factor was undiscovered. It has been discovered and now this kid is having great success with super strong talent.”

John Cena’s Ring Work: “Cena can have a great match with anybody, but he needs somebody who can bring it out of him.”

Daniel Bryan Talks About Being “Too Small”, John Cena, SummerSlam & More

Daniel Bryan was recently interviewed by Sky Sports to promote his upcoming WWE title match against John Cena at SummerSlam. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

What Winning The WWE Title Would Mean To Him:

“It would be incredible. That is every kid’s dream. They grow up wanting to be a WWE Superstar and to be the WWE Champion, winning it at something like SummerSlam. I grew up watching SummerSlam and some of my favourite matches ever have been on SummerSlam; Bret Hart wrestling Davey Boy Smith in ’92 and Shaun Michaels wrestling Vader in ’96. SummerSlam has been home to some of the greatest main events in WWE history and I’m looking forward to being part of that tradition.”

What He Thinks About John Cena:

“I really do respect him. We did 219 WWE live events last year and most of those are untelevised and in most of those shows when Cena is on he’s the main event. He goes out there and works his butt off and he does it against the big boys, wrestling for 20 minutes against Ryback or Mark Henry or Big Show. He goes out there night after night and has to end the show on a high note – and for the most part, every night he does it. I have a tremendous amount of respect for a guy who’s been able to do that for the last 10 years.”

Critics Saying He’s Too Small To Be WWE Champion:

“I don’t think there is a right size or a right image. I feel like if there’s somebody who captures the minds of the WWE Universe then they should be given an opportunity. I’m not saying that I’ll succeed, all I’m saying is that if you give me an opportunity to go out there and try my best and do what I do best then we’ll see what happens. I’ve never asked to be given anything, so let me go out there and prove that I belong there. I’ll go out and prove that I can do it.”

BREAKING NEWS: John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan SummerSlam Outcome REVEALED!

Daniel Bryan Speaks On His Beard, Origins Of Yes/No Chants, SummerSlam

The following are highlights from part two of the Daniel Bryan interview with the official DirecTV website:

On his beard: “Yea its bizarre because I will go signings and people will ask me when I’m going to shave my beard because they hate it. But it’s funny because I’ve become more popular since I’ve had the beard. My friend Christopher Daniels told me years ago that I am a slave to my whims. It was last year I just said I wasn’t going to shave for a bit and it just kept growing. Now I’m at a point where I don’t think I can shave it. It’s just part of the fun now.”

On the origins of the Yes/No chants: “It was originally a take-off of UFC fighter Diego Sanchez because he was all about positivity and would just chant “Yes! Yes!” I always loved that and it was just something I started doing when I won the World Heavyweight Championship. I was very excited and I just started doing it. Then it just started to catch on. I remember the first time I noticed, we had done a RAW in Seattle and people were chanting “Yes!” and I thought it was because I was from Washington State but then it erupted at WrestleMania 28. It just happened organically.”

On on past SummerSlam matches he’s enjoyed: “Summer Slam ’96 with Shawn Michaels vs. Vader. Vader was so cool with that mask. I was literally excited for that match a month before it happened. One of my favorite moments for myself for SummerSlam was in 2010 when they brought me back for the main event and last year’s SummerSlam when I wrestled Kane. It was just cool and surreal to be in the ring with Kane and winning the match. My friends couldn’t believe I was wrestling Kane.”

Daniel Bryan vs. John Cena Match Outcome At SummerSlam Revealed …

Daniel Bryan Speaks On His Relationship With CM Punk, SummerSlam, Training With HBK

WWE Superstar and the number one contender to the WWE Championship at SummerSlam, Daniel Bryan, recently spoke with the official DirecTV website to promote the upcoming SummerSlam pay-per-view. Below are highlights from the interview:

On finding out he’d be facing John Cena for the title at SummerSlam: “It was incredible and humbling. I have been wresting for a long time and most of the time it was in front of very small crowds who couldn’t care less about who was coming out there. I have wrestled in front of 13 people! And just hearing the reaction of the people in Brooklyn who were shouting “Yes! Yes!” – it was very surreal. Like ‘is this really my life?'”

On his relationship with CM Punk: “It’s interesting because CM Punk and I have a lot in common personally, yet we are very different. He is very brash and kind of says whatever he feels. I’m more laid back and not the most outgoing person. But we have a certain respect for each other. I have been on shows that Punk drove 14 or 15 hours for from Chicago to get paid 100 bucks. We’ve done those shows in front of 30 people together. It’s a long road for guys like us to get here. I’m always astounded. There was that December PPV when I had cashed in my Money in the Bank contract to beat Big Show for the World Heavyweight Championship and Punk had retained his WWE title that same night. We used to work on the indies together and then there we were, both champions. No one really thought we could do it. It’s very cool and surreal.”

On his pro wrestling training: “I ended up training with Shawn Michaels. He’s the best. I left the night I graduated from high school, drove to Texas and trained with Shawn for a year. When I look back, I was so poor – I mean living on 20 dollars a month for groceries. I couldn’t fathom that now. It was tough but it was a lot of fun.”

On his idols: “I loved Dean Malenko and Eddie Guererro. Bret Hart was always one of my favorites. I’m also a big Seahawks fan and the guy who I really loved was a wide receiver named Steve Largent, who ended up being a politician in Oklahoma. He was always so respectable and was never about himself, he was about the team. A lot of people like the brash players but I like people who focus on the team and downplay what they do.”

Vince McMahon Believes He Taught Daniel Bryan ‘How To Be A Star’

Though Vince McMahon’s television character is portrayed as having a strong distaste for Daniel Bryan, in reality, the WWE Chairman and CEO thinks quite highly of the wrestler once known as the “American Dragon.”

In response to a rumor on the F4WOnline.com message board concerning McMahon’s relationship with Bryan, Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer revealed how the organization head perceives the wrestling standout. According to Meltzer, McMahon legitimately believes he taught Bryan “how to be a star.”

“Vince believes he took a guy who was very good technically but had no personality and taught him how to be a star,” wrote Meltzer. “If anything, he believes he was more right than anyone on him.”

Jim Ross Blog: McMahons & Daniel Bryan, Wyatt Family, Ryback

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. In this installment, JR wrote about Monday’s RAW and the premiere of Total Divas. Here are some highlights:

McMahon Family & Daniel Bryan: The end game for the McMahon Family conflict interests me especially considering that #1 contender for the WWE Title @WWEDanielBryan is in the middle of it. Where is this matter heading? I’m happy that I have no idea. If Daniel Bryan were to win the WWE Title at Summer Slam, how would that affect the ‘family’ dynamic? Hmmm”

Ryback: “Ryback had a good night even in a losing effort in the Tables Match vs. @JohnCena. Ryback seems to really enjoy his antagonist role and it fits him better and better each week. Being a great, wrestling villain is a skill that isn’t easily or quickly acquired. If Ryback had came along in the 70’s or 80’s, some promoter likely would have made him a ‘Russian’ or another non American to capitalize on a Nationalism story.”

The Wyatt Family: “I’d be remiss without noting that The Wyatt Family had a solid night on RAW and that their vignettes introducing them to the WWE Universe were more golden than many perceive. They had an identity before they ever showed up in person on RAW. Reminds me of how Bill Watts established the Rock ‘n Roll Express in the Mid South Territory using music videos before Morton and Gibson physically arrived in the 80’s.”

As always, you can buy JR’s amazing line of BBQ products from WWEShop.com.

WWE Total Divas Results (7/28): Nikki/Cena Marriage Talk, Backstage At WM29

The following is a report from the series premiere of the new weekly WWE reality series on E!, “Total Divas.”

Total Divas kicks off with introductions and back-stories on some of the key characters on the show, such as the Bella Twins, the Funkadactyls (who are going by their real names, Ariane and Trinity) and Natalya (going by the name Nattie).

The show begins in Tampa, Florida. “10 Days Until WrestleMania.”

Trinity is dating John, known to WWE fans as Jimmy Uso, one half of the tag-team known as The Usos. The two are shown training to prepare for their first WrestleMania as wrestlers.

Nattie is shown training for WrestleMania with her father, WWE legend Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart in Tampa.

Now we meet Nkki Bella’s boyfriend, John. As the show notes, you may recognize him, he’s the current WWE Champion — John Cena. Cena and Nikki are shown at Cena’s home. They show a video package on Cena.

Next up we meet Brie Bella’s boyfriend, Daniel. Again, WWE fans may reocgnize him as Daniel Bryan. Brie notes that while he’s known in WWE as Daniel Bryan, his real name is Bryan Danielson.

We get to roam around backstage at a WWE event to see how the organization is run behind-the-scenes, as well as what goes into putting on a live event and television show. At the same time, we see Nattie in her hotel room preparing to go to WrestleMania. As we head to commercial break, we find out that Nattie is not going to be on WrestleMania.

–Commercial–

We return and we get to meet the newest addition to the WWE Diva roster, Eva Marie and Jo Jo. Nattie runs into the Bella Twins at their hotel. They show the new Divas meeting with Jane. Jane is a WWE Talent Relations official. The show how Nattie is treated backstage, which doesn’t come off well on this show.

Ariane is shown talking to her boyfriend in the hotel room. It is explained that Nattie basically has to babysit the new girls, the Funkadactyls and their boyfriends at WrestleMania, instead of getting to perform on the show.

We are backstage at a WWE event again, and ths time we see some heavy-duty drama. It is explained that Brodus Clay blew up at the Funkadactyls and other talent off-camera. Ariane ends up explaining to her boyfriend, Vincent, why she appeared to be noticably upset. Vincent, who is a pretty big guy, but not big enough, became irate. He repeatedly asks Ariane to go get Clay so he can confront him. Eventually, Nattie and Jimmy Uso have to tell Ariane that she needs to calm him down immediately. Someone also notes that Vincent would get his ass kicked.

–Commercial–

We return to some more drama, only a very different version. We are back in the hotel room with the new girls and the Bella Twins. The Bella Twins are upset that the new girls, specifically Eva Marie, look similar to them. They inform her that she needs to dye her hair blond.

We’re two days from WrestleMania now. We see Eva Marie headed to get her hair dyed. As we head to commercial break, she talks about how she doesn’t like the blond hair look.

–Commercial–

We’re back to find out that instead of blond hair, Eva Marie decided to dye her hair extremely red. We see her headed to see Jane, and she’s nervous about what she just did. Jane ends up liking the red hair.

We see John Cena walking the red carpet. Next the Divas are shown walking the red carpet. Nattie is on the red carpet doing interviews and pre-taped intros as it’s WrestleMania weekend kickoff time.

Back to Diva drama. We see the Bella Twins taking charge against the new Divas as it becomes more and more apparent that they don’t like the new girls.

As we head to another commercial break, we see the Bella Twins eating at a Cuban restaurant and talking. Nikki mentions how she is nervous about dating John Cena because she wants to get married and she’s afraid Cena won’t because he recently got out of a bad marriage.

–Commercial–

We return from commercial and we see the Funkadactyls backstage talking about an accident with Brodus Clay.

We shoot to Nikki and Cena out together at dinner. Nikki asks Cena about marriage and asks if the two getting married is something he sees in their future. Cena explains how he tried the marriage thing once and she knows how that worked out. Cena tells Nikki she makes him enjoy life. She tells Cena that she wanted to know if it was an option and tells him she loves him.

We return to the live WrestleMania show and see a countdown to WrestleMania on the titantron inside the arena. They show 30 minutes until the Divas match.

We see the Bella Twins watching Daniel Bryan and Kane wrestling in the ring later on. Then we find out that the Funkadactyls are having trouble getting ready for their WrestleMania match as we head to another break.

–Commercial–

We return and see the Funkadactyls have nothing to wear yet, as their ring outfits are still being made backstage. We see reviews of the Undertaker and CM Punk match as the girls scramble to get dressed.

As they head to the front to get ready to make their entrance, we hear John Cena’s music playing in the arena. Nattie says how they know something is wrong. We find out that their match has been cut from WrestleMania as we head to our final commercial break of the evening.

–Commercial–

As we return for the last segment of the show, they show the Bella Twins talking about getting cut from WrestleMania.

Trinity is shown and says there is absolutely nothing worse that can happen than getting cut from a WrestleMania match.

We return backstage at WrestleMania where we see WWE Diva Layla trying to console the Funkadactyls, who were distraught at being cut from the show.

A video package airs showing highlights of what fans can expect from this season of Total Divas on E! every Sunday night, and that concludes the premiere edition of Total Divas.

WWE/TNA Stars Work Together On Comic Book, Jericho Predicts Bryan Title Win

-Former WWE Diva Beth Phoenix, current TNA Impact Wrestling star Mr. Anderson, as well as WWE Hall Of Famer and current weekly RAW color-commentator Jerry “The King” Lawler are all involved in a Kickstarter campaign to fund a new comic book project titled, “Headlocked: The Last Territory.”

The official Kickstarter page for the project lists the following synopsis:

What is Headlocked?

In one sentence, it’s a wrestling cable drama in a comic book!

Headlocked is a coming-of-age story chronicling a college theater major’s quest to become a professional wrestler. It begins from the moment he unexpectedly falls in love with wrestling and follows his journey through the insanity of the wrestling business as he chases his dream of making it to the bright lights and the big stage of the WFW.

On a deeper level, Headlocked is an examination of wrestling as an art form. Our main character, Mike Hartmann, is a college theater major that drops out of school to try and break into the wrestling business. So the reader will learn more about the craft of wrestling through the eyes of a performance artist.

To further our theme of wrestling as art, we use wrestlers to contribute to the book artistically. Our interior artist, Michel Mulipola, is a wrestler from New Zealand. And our cover artist, you might have heard of him….

WWE Hall of Famer, Jerry “The King” Lawler!

If you read further, you’ll see we have a metric ton of awesome guest contributors from the world of comics and wrestling lined up to help make this even better!

Check out the official Kickstarter page for more information on the comic book and to donate to the project.

-A fan recently asked former WWE Superstar Chris Jericho for his thoughts on the current number one contender to the WWE Championship, Daniel Bryan, on his official Twitter page (@IAmJericho). Jericho’s response was simple, but encouraging. “Amazing,” exclaimed Jericho. “Next WWE champ.”
