  • Devon Talks About Why He Left TNA Last Year, Bully Ray, Lockdown & More

Devon from Aces and Eights joined Inside The Ropes this past Thursday to talk about Lockdown, here are some of the highlights:

WWF breaking up the Dudley Boyz in 2002:

“At that point we weren’t ready for it, even though Vince wanted us to do it because he saw me doin’ something and he saw Bubba doin’ something. I remember when we were told about it, I wasn’t too happy about it and neither was he. We both thought it was the wrong time to do it, and it was, because we didn’t make it as singles competitors and I think that hurt us, because when that happened and that flopped, people just thought “Oh the Dudley Boyz couldn’t do it on their own” and that bothered me for many, many years. which is why it was so important that when we separated in TNA, because here we come to TNA, we conquer there, we do excellent in Japan, and helped put TNA on the map, we were ecstatic about that. Once we were done, and we knew we’d won the NWA tag titles, the TNA tag titles, so successful in Japan, we found there was nothing left for us to do. Now you look back at that moment in 2002, there was still a lot for us to do. We were growing and still learning at that particular point in time, but then you move forward to TNA, here we go, it’s the opportunity of a lifetime, now we can prove to those who said the Dudleyz couldn’t do it by themselves, to prove them wrong. Bully Ray’s doing what he’s doing and now with the whole Aces and Eights thing, everything has a time and place, you’ve got to know when that time is. 2002 wasn’t the time to break the Dudley Boyz up and I don’t think people understood that, it wasn’t that we couldn’t do it on our own, it just wasn’t the right time. But now, I’m in Aces and Eights and he’s marrying Brooke with Hulk as his father in law, and we’re both experiencing success.”

What really happened when he left TNA last summer:

“We couldn’t come to an agreement on a contract. A similar thing happened with WWE in 2005. Bubba were doing things separate at the time, normally we did our contracts together but at this particular point in time we did it separate. That’s basically what it was, we couldn’t come to an agreement. I held no ill will towards the company, I just knew what I had to do to make my family survive, it’s getting close to winding this thing down and you’ve gotta look out for your best interests. We just couldn’t agree financially. Everyone thought it was part of an angle that was being done, but it really wasn’t, I was gone. When I made that announcement, I was gone, I was not coming back. Then a new offer came in two months later and again it was something where I wasn’t looking to come back but now with the whole thing with Aces and Eights, you know, I love it. It’s something I never thought I’d get involved with until they came to me with it. I’m just happy.”

Will Devon and Bully Ray ever be on the same side again:

“Absolutely not. I don’t want the Dudley Boyz or Team 3D, I don’t want it. As far as I’m concerned it’s dead and over. This has nothing personally to do with Bubba and I. Listen, I’ve waited over 15 years to be in this position, I’m not moving backwards, I’m moving forward. I hope he feels the same. People say “Oh guys, you should be like KISS and do it one more time” I don’t want one more time. I’m not being selfish, I’m not being egotistical but there’s nothing left for us to do. For us to be together again or on the same page….Edge and Christian, The Hardyz went their own way, it’s time for us to go our own way. ECW, we accomplished, WWF and WWE, we accomplished. TNA, we accomplished. All Japan, New Japan, Hustle. We’ve done everything there is to do. Maybe we’ll be on the same page 20 years from now at the Hall of Fame when we’re inducted but that’s about it. Some of the fans, they’ve gotta let it go, they’ve gotta let ECW go and let the Dudleyz go.”

What to expect this Sunday at Lockdown:

“You’re gonna see Sting get his ass whooped and his team mates, whoever feels they wanna take on Aces and Eights. We’re gonna go out there, we’re gonna rule just like we always do, just like we did in 2012 and 2013. There isn’t anyone out there that can stop the total domination of Aces and Eights. We’ll rule today, tomorrow and we’ll rule in the future. Lockdown is gonna turn out just like Bound For Glory, where Aces and Eights outsmart TNA and doing whatever it takes to get a victory over TNA and their team.”

  • WWE Reportedly Steering Clear Of All Recent TNA Talent

Don’t expect the likes of Alex Shelley, Velvet Sky, Devon, Angelina Love or even Hall of Famer Ric Flair to pop up in a WWE ring anytime soon. According to Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer, Vince McMahon’s company is steering clear of any and all recently affiliated TNA Wrestling talent while the two grappling organizations do battle in court.

On May 23, 2012, TNA Entertainment, LLC. filed a lawsuit in Nashville, Tennessee against World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. and Brian Wittenstein, a former office worker for both organizations. TNA accused WWE of obtaining secret contract information in an attempt to poach their talent in violation of Tennessee’s Uniform Trade Secrets Act.

Wittenstein, who worked for TNA Wrestling for three years, was terminated on August 3, 2011. At that time, he entered into a Separation Agreement and General Release, preventing him from disclosing certain confidential TNA information. TNA alleges that Wittenstein violated the agreement by downloading confidential TNA trade secrets and providing that information to WWE after joining the organization months later. Although WWE fired Wittenstein and alerted TNA officials as to the disclosure of the information, TNA claims WWE waited three weeks to notify them and has used the confidential information, including data regarding wrestler compensation, to recruit contracted TNA talent to work for WWE. Wittenstein’s contract with TNA had specifically ordered that he not share confidential information about the organization after his employment ceased.

Matt Morgan, who had teased joining WWE since concluding his contractual obligations to TNA in June, resurfaced at Saturday’s house show in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Dressed in street clothes, Morgan entered the ring through the crowd and laid out Robbie E. Meltzer wrote on the F4WOnline.com message board regarding Morgan’s apparently renewed partnership with TNA, “I guess that tells you about that TNA lawsuit now since they didn’t take Morgan.”

It has also been speculated that Alex Shelley and Ric Flair could wind up in WWE now that both individuals are free agents. Meltzer, however, reveals that the organization is not negotiating with either talent despite being legally able to.

“Nobody is talking about Shelley and they won’t even officially talk to Flair even though his non-compete is up,” he wrote.

Following the lawsuit filing, it was reported that TNA was looking to cut costs by restructuring talent contracts when they expired. This ploy appears to have led to the respective departures of Devon and Velvet Sky since both talents reportedly left the organization due to their financial terms not being reached on new deals.

  • Matt Morgan Makes Surprise Appearance At TNA House Show, Hulk Hogan Addresses Devon and TV Title

    – Matt Morgan, who has not appeared at a TNA Wrestling event since June, made a surprise appearance at Saturday’s house show in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Dressed in street clothes, Morgan entered the ring through the crowd and laid out Robbie E.

Following the appearance, Morgan posted another one of his trademark cryptic messages on Twitter, stating, “All 2nite really meant was I’m tired of “just be patient Matt”, being patronized & most of all being SOLD DREAMS! The real question is……Who am I with? Time will tell. ‘Til then,Tick-Tock….”

Hours before the appearance, Morgan teased appearances in either Chicago, Boston and Pennsylvania, where Ring of Honor, WWE and TNA Wrestling are respectively holding events this weekend: “Lots of great wrestling this weekend. Chicago………Boston…….Pennsylvania……. Who knows where il show up!”

    – On Twitter, Hulk Hogan was asked about the status of Devon and the TNA Television Championship. He responded, “I have no idea, I asked Dixie and she said she’s working on it brother.”

Devon is no longer affiliated with TNA Wrestling after his contract expired in late August.

  • Former TNA Wrestling Stars Tease Joining WWE, Tammy Sytch Asking For Privacy Following Arrests

Jesse responded, “that definitely sounds like a plan. Just on a bigger stage…….”

Devon wrote back, “HMM…. i have just the place …”

Jesse responded, “one day soon we will be laughing……. U know the spot!!”

Devon said in response, “testify my brother” oh I plan on it…… Ha! See ya s.”

    – After being arrested in Connecticut three times this week due to her boyfriend’s complaints of domestic violence, WWE Hall of Famer Tammy “Sunny” Sytch asked for privacy from her Facebook friends as they resolve their issues.

She wrote Saturday afternoon, “To everyone: NO ONE knows the real story of what happened this week, So please respect both Damien Darling and my privacy as we work through this unfortunate turn of events. Thank you.”

Devon Sets The Record Straight On His Official Status With iMPACT Wrestling/WWE Rumors, If The Feeling Has Sunk In That He Very Well Might Not Be Working In The Same Company With Bully Ray (Bubba Ray) For The First Time In Years, Why His Future (Which Will Not Include Retirement Just Yet) Will Be Determined By Faith, Whether Or Not The Thoughts Has Already Crossed His Mind About Returning To World Wrestling Entertainment, The Naysayers Who Believed That Singles Runs For Him And Bully Ray Would Not Be Possible In iMPACT Wrestling, What Irks Him About The Fans Who Compare The Singles Runs Of The Dudley Boyz In The WWE vs. TNA, Being Given The Opportunity To Perform As A Singles Competitor And To Be The TNA World Television Champion, Why He Credits Hulk Hogan And Eric Bischoff For The Recent Success He Had, What Talents He Enjoyed Working With In iMPACT Wrestling (And Those He Would Have Liked To Work With), The Team 3-D Wrestling Academy, His New Charity (Hope For Single Moms), His First Memories Of Meeting The Motor City Machine Guns Before Starting Their Feud Together, The Origins Of The HardCORE Justice Pay-Per-View In 2010, Whether There Was Actually Talk Of An “Extreme” Brand Within TNA, Those Fans Who Still Reminisce About Extreme Championship Wrestling Today, The Importance of Storytelling And Thinking Longevity In Getting Over In The Business, Scripted vs. Unscripted Promos, Why It’s Not A Matter Of “If, But When” The Dudley Boyz Are Hall Of Fame Bound, Plus Much More In His Exclusive Monday Night Mayhem Interview!

Former 23-time World Tag Team Champion Devon was the featured guest on this week’s edition of the award-winning Monday Night Mayhem. You can now feel The Mayhem every week only on the WrestleView Radio Network.

Devon joined The Big Mosh, “The Chairman of the Board” Todd Vincent, and MNM’s National WWE Correspondent Jim Molineaux for his first post-TNA interview, a Monday Night Mayhem worldwide exclusive interview, which is now available for download on the WrestleView Radio Network:

Devon/Monday Night Mayhem Interview (MP3 Streaming Audio):
    Wrestleviewradio.com/WVIP_Preview/mnm091112.mp3

Interview highlights courtesy of Kahlil Thomas, MNM’s associate producer and official correspondent:

Setting the record straight on his official status with TNA iMPACT Wrestling and why his future in professional wrestling will be determined by faith: “The deal was up as of August 28th (of this year), and I was still (World) Television Champion. It just so happened at that particular point in time, we were in the process of cutting a new deal, but we couldn’t cut it in time before the deadline. Alot of fans speculated different things, and rumors were running rampant. Safe to say, I have no ill feelings towards TNA at all. It’s just that we could not come to an agreement before the 28th, and the deal ran out. It is what it is. Where I’m going to go and is where God wants me to go. If faith leads me to stay in TNA, I’ll stay in TNA. If faith leads me to go to WWE, then I will go to WWE. I will go where God puts me, and I’ll leave it in his hands.”

His first memories of his former tag team partner (Bully Ray/Brother Ray) meeting The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley) before starting their feud together and the importance of storytelling & thinking longevity in getting over in the business: “Bubba (Bully Ray) and I were getting that from The Motor City Machine Guns (Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley). I remember one of the first meetings between us a few years back, and I remembered them saying: ‘We didn’t kill ourselves. We had the people in the palm of our hands. It felt like we did nothing.’ That was one of the things Bubba and I tried to express to the younger guys. You don’t have to do a million and one things to get yourselves over. All you have to be able to do is tell the right story, and you’re be able to get over without killing yourself. You have to think longevity.”

His thoughts on those fans who still reminisce about Extreme Championship Wrestling today, more than a decade after the promotion folded: “When fans come up to me and express their love of what we did back then in the old ECW, we touched a lot of people. We set off a revolution and something that was never done before. You got a little indy promotion that came out of South Philadelphia, in a Bingo Hall that nobody thought would last a year, let alone two or three, and then it just became the third most popular company in the wrestling business at the time. To hear those three little letters, it meant something.”

Whether or not the thought has already crossed his mind about returning to the WWE: “I would be lying to you if I said going back to the WWE wasn’t a thought. It’s always a thought for anyone who’s ever been there and then left.”

Much more is contained in Devon’s exclusive interview with Monday Night Mayhem, including his candid thoughts on if the feeling has sunk in that he very well might not be working in the same company with Bully Ray (Bubba Ray) for the first time in years, the naysayers who believed that singles runs for him and his former tag team partner would not be possible in iMPACT Wrestling, what irks him about the fans who compare the singles runs of The Dudley Boyz in the WWE vs. TNA, being given the opportunity to perform as a singles competitor and the TNA World Television Champion, why he credits Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff for the recent success he had, what talents he enjoyed worked work with in iMPACT Wrestling (and those he would have liked to have work with), the origins of the HardCORE Justice Pay-Per-View in 2010 and whether there was actually talk of an “extreme” brand within TNA, why he hasn’t thought about retirement just yet, not “if but when” The Dudley Boyz are Hall of Fame bound, scripted vs. unscripted promos, plus much more! • Hulk Hogan Says TNA Screwed Up By Letting Devon Slip Away, Devon Responds

Devon’s departure from TNA Wrestling two weeks ago due to his contract not being renewed came as shock to many employees since he well-liked and considered a model employee. Hulk Hogan is among those people.

Sunday on Twitter, the legendary wrestler was asked about Devon returning to TNA for at least one night to drop the Television Championship and responded “I’m all over it.” He continued,:

Hogan also posted a fan message stating:

Devon responded to Hogan’s appraisal of him, tweeting:

  • Bully Ray Signs New TNA Contract, Devon Still Leaving

After months of negotiating and venting publicly about the uncertainty of his future in pro wrestling, Bully Ray has re-signed with TNA Wrestling, according to PWInsider.com.

The contract was reportedly signed this week and is a 2-year deal. Ray will remain on the active roster and will also continue as an agent behind the scenes, assisting with the production of TNA’s live events and television shows.

Devon, however, is leaving TNA and the feeling is that the company really didn’t do the right thing by him. Devon has gotten himself into great shape and worked hard to get younger talent over, including Garrett Bischoff. He was also one of the most well-liked and respected members of the roster, which makes his departure even more surprising.

Despite not being signed to the same wrestling promotion for the first time since 1996, Ray and Devon will continue to work together as the head trainer of their Team 3D Wrestling Academy in Florida.

  • General Manager Storyline Plans, Devon’s Chances Of Joining WWE, Superstars

    – WWE is currently running storylines where both RAW and SmackDown’s General Managers are having major problems with their jobs. AJ Lee’s angle is that she’s unstable and incompetent, while Booker T is being sued by one of his announcers. There is speculation that the General Managers being unable to handle their brands will lead to Vince McMahon firing them both and bringing in a big name to both shows.

    – Matches for today’s WWE Superstars include:

    * Layla vs. Natalya
    * US Champion Antonio Cesaro vs. Justin Gabriel
    * Damien Sandow vs. Alex Riley
    * Tag Team Champions Kofi Kingston & R-Truth vs. Primo & Epico.

    – With Devon parting ways with TNA and expressing interest in returning to WWE, sources are not optimistic that he’ll get signed as a wrestler. WWE management was very fond of Devon back when he was one of the Dudley Boyz (more so than Bully Ray), but he has a much better chance of getting brought in as an agent or a trainer at developmental. Devon and Ray’s Team 3D wrestling academy has produced several promising young talents, so that will only help his chances of working behind the scenes.

  • Devon Continues To Tease WWE Return, McIntyre Injured, Punk DVD Screening

    – WWE Superstar Drew McIntyre noted in a Twitter Q&A prior to Monday’s RAW that he is injured and will be out of action for a couple of weeks. He did not specify the nature of the injury.

    – Matches taped prior to RAW for this week’s Superstars include Damien Sandow vs. Alex Riley and Tag Team Champions Kofi Kingston & R-Truth vs. Primo & Epico.

    – WWE will be screening the new “CM Punk: Best in the World” documentary on October 7, 2012 (1-3PM) from The Portage Theatre in Chicago. CM Punk will be there to speak to the audience, as will several of the people who were interviewed for the DVD. Admission is free for the first 1,000 fans.
