  • DDP Yoga Intern On Jake Roberts’ Sobriety, The “Accountability Crib,” & More

The following are highlights from a recent VOC Wrestling Nation interview with DDP Yoga intern Dylan Frymer:

On the progress of Jake “The Snake” Roberts: “I want to make it clear that Jake is a year clean off of cocaine. However, he recently had a problem with alcohol that we documented on YouTube. Since then, I’ve been going on the road with Jake as an accountability partner. I keep him accountable to himself. We’re a tag team on addiction. Food is my addiction, and (Jake and I) help each other.”

On getting involved with DDP Yoga: “In 2008 I was going to meet DDP at a convention in NJ. I was 290 lbs at the time, and I was one of the first people to sign up for the YRG program (the former name of DDP Yoga, “Yoga for Regular Guys”) My mom sent an email to Dallas and he actually responded back to me personally. I was one of the first 10 people to do YRG and I lost 110lbs.”

On moving into DDP’s “Accountability Crib”: “I fell off the wagon after a bout with depression and gained most of the weight back. Depression is real. I was originally approached to come and live here with Jake, but I was in a funk (and said no). Then I saw that Scott Hall moved in and it really impacted my life; I reached out to DDP on facebook and let him know that Scott Hall inspired me to (overcome depression) and that I lost 20lbs. DDP called me and asked me to move into the Accountability Crib and work with him as an intern, and the rest is history.”

  • Goldust Speaks On Rhodes Family/RAW, HHH, Dream Match Against Cody Rhodes

SESCOOPS.COM reader Aaron Carnevale of WrestlingDVDNews.com sent along the following highlights of a recent Dustin “Goldust” Rhodes interview with the Monday Night Mayhem radio show:

The health benefits he has seen since starting DDP Yoga: “With DPP Yoga, there are a couple benefits. I stand up straighter now, and I can bend in ways I couldn’t bend. I feel so much better: my joints, muscles, and bones. It is awesome.”

His memories of working with Scott Hall as Goldust and what valuable lessons Hall taught him in his career: “Me and Scott have had some fun times with the Goldust stuff, even though we didn’t see eye to eye all the time. We always went out there and gave 110%. I had to learn and Scott was a good teacher. He taught me what I needed to know and how to do things the right ways, and I just grew from that. I love Scott.”

His expectations on the night of his WWE return earlier this month on Monday Night RAW against WWE Champion Randy Orton and why he took out his frustrations on Triple H via Twitter: “My nerves were shot. Cody loses his job, and my little brother had the world taken out from under him all because he spoke up. That pissed off my family so I started getting on Twitter saying things to Triple H. Going into that match with Randy, I was focused. I went into that match very focused and very nervous. I was fighting for Cody’s job, and I lost fair in square.”

With the current state of events in the WWE between the McMahons and the Rhodes families, whether or not he envisions his one-on-one Dream Match with his brother Cody in the foreseeable future: “It could take place in the foreseeable future or whenever, you never know what is going to happen in the WWE. But, I’ll say that I don’t want that anymore.”

  • Scott Hall Talks About DDP Changing His Life, His Son In WWE

    Courtesy: www.MondayNightMayhem.com

Former four-time WWE Intercontinental Champion, former seven-time WCW World Tag Team Champion, and former two-time WCW United States Champion Scott Hall, was the featured guest on this past week’s all-new edition of the award-winning Monday Night Mayhem, hosted by “The Chairman of the Board” Todd Vincent and The Big Mosh.

Scott Hall Discusses DDP Yoga Forever Changing His Life, How Scott Hall, The Man, Has Changed Over The Past Two Years (From ESPN’s “E:60” To HBO’s “Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel”), What He Learned About Himself And About From Then To Now, His Relationship With Diamond Dallas Page And Jake “The Snake” Roberts, Why He Thinks They Both Reached Out To Him In A Time Of Need, What His Expectations Were Prior To Moving Into The “Accountability Crib,” The Message To His Fans For Helping Him Raise Over $100,000 For His Recent Medical Bills,Why He Has Always Resonated With The Rhodes Family, What Dustin Rhodes’ Recent RAW Showing Says About The Power Of The “Rhodes Dynasty,” If He Would His Own Opportunity To Work Again With World Wrestling Entertainment In The Foreseeable Future, Whether Or Not His Son Becoming A WWE Superstar At Some Point Is A Foregone Conclusion, Plus Much More In His Monday Night Mayhem Debut!

Stream The Show Here (.MP3): Scott Hall On Monday Night Mayhem

Here are some highlights of what Scott Hall said about the following topics (courtesy of Aaron Carnevale):

His relationship with Jake “The Snake” Roberts and Diamond Dallas page prior to the both of them reaching out to him/moving into the “Accountability Crib” and what the character quality he enjoys the most about DDP“I never knew Jake (Roberts) personally until the past few months. I’ve known Dally for years and years. We crossed paths in Florida Championship Wrestling before either of us had any success. We have an honest and open relationship, which is what I really like about Dally.”

How Scott Hall, the man, has changed from the airing of the “E:60” piece on ESPN in 2011 to the airing of the “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” piece on HBO several weeks ago and what he has learned about himself and about life during these past two years: “I’ve been saying the same thing. I really don’t know what happened. If it was something that I could identify and give to people I would. I know it is working for me now.”

Why he has always resonated with the Rhodes family, his thoughts on Goldust’s WWE return, and what Dustin’s recent RAW showing says about the power of the “Rhodes Dynasty”: “I don’t stay in touch with Dustin (Rhodes) as much as I’d like. I’ve followed him, and I’m happy for him. He is doing great. For him to show up and rock it on RAW cements the fact that everybody in the Rhodes family can go. Dusty started me in the business, so I’ve always had a strong connection to them.”

Whether or not he believes that Cody being in the WWE is a foregone conclusion, based on the WWE’s history of recruiting and signing second/third-generation stars: “Who knows. Does Cody want to wrestle in the WWE? Of course he does. But he is intelligent enough to realize that he is a long way from being ready for that. Now his job is to train as a professional wrestler.”

Much more is contained in Scott’s highly-anticipated MNM debut, including how much DDP Yoga has forever transformed his life emotionally, mentally, and physically, how DDP Yoga is different from other exercise programs, his experience of living in the “Accountability Crib” with Diamond Dallas Page and Jake “The Snake” Roberts, his thoughts on Goldust’s WWE return, how DDP Yoga has helped to strengthen his relationship with his son, the progression of Cody’s wrestling career, the support and loyalty of wrestling fans, and his message to those currently struggling with addiction. In stark contrast to the sport’s high-flying, musclebound theatrics, yoga is now helping rehabilitate some stars of yesteryear. Diamond Dallas Page, famous for his success in the WCW and WWF, created DDP Yoga after finding that yoga helped ease not only his physical ailments but also his depression, and has striven to help others from his era, most notably Scott “Razor Ramon” Hall and Jake “The Snake” Roberts. Correspondent Frank Deford sits down with the wrestlers to discuss how yoga has helped their lives in a way they never thought possible.

  • Backstage News On If WWE Is Considering Jake Roberts For 2014 Royal Rumble

As we reported a few weeks ago, Jake “The Snake” Roberts, with help from his friend Diamond Dallas Page, have been campaigning for Roberts to return to WWE as an entrant in the next Royal Rumble match in 2014. Roberts noted that it would complete his “comeback.”

According to reports, word in WWE is that the company is not even considering Roberts in the Royal Rumble right now, and that if they were to consider him, it wouldn’t be until at least early January.

WWE officials claim if Roberts were to return to WWE for one final appearance in a Royal Rumble, it would likely be a last-minute deal, meaning he would most likely be one of the “surprise entrants” in the match.

  • TMZ Picks Up Jake Roberts/DDP Story, Notes Roberts Wants In One More Royal Rumble

Celebrity-gossip website TMZ has picked up the story of Jake “The Snake” Roberts turning his life around through the help of fellow pro wrestler Diamond Dallas Page, and his “DDPYoga” workout regimen. The story notes that Roberts has lost 70 pounds in nine months, and is looking to get back into the ring at the ripe-old-age of 58.

They published this before and after picture of his incredible weight loss:

    0728-jake-the-snake-before-afer-1

DDP mentions that Roberts started the program doing one or two sessions a day and eating a more clean, healthy diet. He talks about how Roberts not only lost the impressive amount of weight, but the program has also helped him with his infamous drug and alcohol issues.

Another interesting note stemming from the TMZ article is that Roberts apparently has one unfulfilled goal, which is to compete in one more Royal Rumble match in WWE. Roberts made a surprise return at the Royal Rumble match in 1997, his final official “run” with the company outside of a few one-time-only returns here and there.

Roberts spoke about his Royal Rumble goal to TMZ. “I will never give up … I want a life again and I am pursuing that. The Rumble will define it.”

  • WWE Looks Back At Dennis Rodman’s Time In WCW, Lex Luger, Diamond Dallas Page & Others Comment

The official WWE website has published an article Friday profiling former NBA star Dennis Rodman’s attention-grabbing tenure with World Championship Wrestling in the late-1990’s. Diamond Dallas Page, Lex Luger, Kevin Sullivan, Dean Malenko and Billy Kidman are quoted in the piece.

The then-member of the Chicago Bulls joined forces with WCW in early-1997 while serving a suspension from the NBA for kicking a cameraman in the groin during a game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He appeared alongside the New World Order at the March 1997 Uncensored pay-per-view event and made his wrestling debut four months later at Bash at the Beach, where he partnered with Hollywood Hogan in a loss to Luger and The Giant. According to accounts, Rodman tried in earnest to prepare for the match, with Sullivan stating that he spent time learning the ropes from Paul Orndorff and Jody Hamilton at the WCW’s training facility, the Power Plant.

“He was a natural,” Luger told WWE.com. “Man, he caught right on. I was almost envious. It took me a lot longer to even have a clue how to do this.”

Rodman laced up the wrestling boots again one year later as he squared off against Karl Malone at the 1998 Bash at the Beach, just one month after playing against him in the NBA Finals. Page brainstormed the idea of himself and Malone (who had become friends due to Malone’s wrestling fandom) facing Rodman and Hogan at the pay-per-view event, but admits that former WCW executive Eric Bischoff initially had another wrestler in mind as Malone’s tag team partner.

“I went over to Eric Bischoff’s house and I said, ‘I got this idea: Me and Malone against Rodman and Hogan,” Page said. “Bischoff thought about it and went, ‘Wow, Hogan and Rodman versus Savage and Malone.’ I said, ‘Maybe you didn’t hear me. Me and Malone, because this is my connection and I’m not giving it to anybody.’”

The 23-minute match, however, was poorly received, with WWE labeling the match as “not very good” and branding Rodman as “sluggish and, at times, barely conscious.”

“He’s probably one of the only people in the history of our business to fall asleep during a match, using the turnbuckle as a pillow,” said WWE producer Dean Malenko, who worked for WCW at the time.

WWE also acknowledges the end of Rodman’s wrestling career, which included matches against “Macho Man” Randy Savage and Curt Hennig, and winning the Hulk Hogan’s Celebrity Championship Wrestling reality show. To access the article, click here.

There will be 7 rings available along with top of the line production facilities including a room that talent can work on their verbal skills that one can do on their own and then send the promo to a work station for review with their peers and/or coaches. There will be a voice over room that the talents plus the on air announcers can use to practice. The Performance Center facility will be manned by a full time strength and conditioning coach, the most up to date work out equipment available, full time athletic trainers, physical therapists and an on call/on site physician. I see our NXT talents arriving in the morning and leaving in the early evening most days much like one would expect a NFL team to do during the pre season especially.”

JR on working with the NFL: “I hope to attend the NFL rookie symposium next year to gather more info to help WWE rookies when they come into the system. Because WWE has no off season, the influx of new talents is an on going process and this info can be a vital part of the new talent’s orientation into the transition into the unique world of sports entertainment.”

JR on Jake Roberts: “Apparently Jake Roberts had a relapse recently and hopefully it will be his last. The odds are that it won’t be but Jake has the intellect and hopefully the desire to defy the odds and make this sobriety thing work for him. He, along with Scott Hall, have WAY too much to offer and the time left to accomplish great things if they can get to where I know that they want to be and that is clean and sober. The alternative is unfortunately a slow, or not, agonizing death that does further damage to one’s family and friends.”

-Quinton “Rampage” Jackson recently spoke about his pro wrestling style and plans in an interview with MMAMania.com. Below is an excerpt:

“Well I’ve always wanted to be a pro wrestler since I was a kid, but now that I’m older and have had a lot of injuries, people don’t understand the toll that wrestling takes on your body. I just don’t think I can do that now while I’m fighting, but when I retire from fighting and go full time into pro wrestling, then I think I can go and get more extensive with my style and my moves.

Right now, I just want to stick to what I know. I haven’t trained for wrestling but I know MMA and MMA is exciting. That’s why it has such a big following that it does now and I want to bring my style into my performance. Guys like Samoa Joe have an MMA style in their pro wrestling and stuff like that. I want to be different than him. I still like to slam and throw people and that’s why I did that so many years in my MMA career because I was a pro wrestler at heart. I wanted to bring some pro wrestling into my MMA back in Pride and now I want to bring some MMA into my pro wrestling.”
