Dominik Mysterio On Scraped Plans For His Debut With Mask

A lot of people believe that Dominik Mysterio should continue his family legacy and wrestle with a mask like his father and wrestling legend Rey Mysterio.

The father son duo recently appeared on the After the Bell podcast where it was revealed that the original plans for the young star’s debut actually called for him to don the legendary mask.

Dominik first discussed how his debut match with Seth Rollins at SummerSlam came together very quickly and revealed that he had originally planned to adopt his father’s signature look during his debut which had to be nixed:

“When he first told me too that they wanted me to have a match with Seth [Rollins] at SummerSlam, I thought he was kidding, never in a million years would I have thought that I’d debut at one of the biggest pay per views against the biggest names.

It was kind of just like, we had no idea who Dominik Mysterio was and whether I was going to wear the mask. We had this whole plan set up on how I was going to debut, mask, everything but everything happened so fast we just ran with it.”

Now that the young star has made his debut without the mask, many wonder if he will ever wear it in his career. Discussing it, Rey Mysterio claimed that it’s not too late yet but Dom will have to earn it:

“It’s still not late to make things happen like we had it planned out. I think Dom is going to have to earn the mask now. He’s on his way, eventually one day, maybe the mask will be on.”

Dominik Mysterio also revealed that the company had already prepared music and graphics for his entrance before he knew and he was left surprised with it.

Rey and Dominik Mysterio made history this past Sunday at WrestleMania: Backlash when they defeated Robert Roode and Dolph Ziggler and became the first father son duo to hold the tag team titles in WWE.

Rey & Dominik Mysterio Win WWE SmackDown Tag Team Titles

Rey & Dominik Mysterio walked into the WWE WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view event with the chance to make history.

They challenged WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode for the straps. Dominik was attacked by the heels earlier in the night and was absent to start the match off. Rey put up a good fight, but was beaten down for the majority of the match. Dominik eventually made his way out and got on the apron. Rey hit a 619 to Roode then Dominik hit a splash off the top rope for the win.

As a result of this win, not only are they the champions, but they become the first father and son duo to win the titles. This is something that they’ve talked about since Dominik broke into the business.

Ziggler & Roode won the straps from The Street Profits this January. WWE had booked on the SmackDown go-home show for WrestleMania 37 last month Ziggler and Roode to retain the titles against The Street Profits, The Mysterios, and Chad Gable & Otis in a fatal four-way match.

A few weeks ago, Ziggler & Roode also retained against The Street Profits on SmackDown. The Mysterios had also been picking up some wins as of late to earn this title match.

WWE has announced a new match for the upcoming WrestleMania Backlash pay-per-view. Rey and Dominik Mysterio look to make history when they challenge SmackDown Tag Team Champions Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode.

WWE has seen several championship teams comprised of brothers. Teams who have accomplished this unique feat include the Steiner Brothers, The Hardy Boyz, Cody Rhodes and Goldust and The Usos.

We’ve also had several ‘fictional’ brother parings win tag team gold, including the Dudley Boyz and the Brothers of Destruction (The Undertaker and Kane).

However, should they capture the gold, Rey and Dominik Mysterio would be the first father-son tag team to wear WWE tag team championships.

Rey & Dominik Mysterio Reveal They Tested Positive For COVID-19

Rey & Dominik Mysterio appeared recently on the Start Today podcast and revealed that they tested positive for COVID-19 in December. During the podcast, Mysterio revealed that other members of their family tested positive as well.

“It has been so confusing for me and my family to try and really understand how this works because it changes every time. My parents ended up catching COVID and we were taking care of them, so making sure they didn’t catch it, but somehow they caught it, brought it to my house, passed it on to my housekeeper, my housekeeper then passed it onto my wife. I was with my wife maybe for about 3 days, flew out to Tampa to do SmackDown. I found out that Friday morning before we walked into the arena that my housekeeper had tested positive, so I then brought it to (WWE’s) attention.”

“Keep in mind that my daughter, Dominik and myself were around my housekeeper and my wife. My wife tested negative, my housekeeper tested positive.”

“Saturday, we fly back home in the morning. We were able to fly back because we were negative. Saturday night, I felt really sick. Woke up Sunday with a massive headache.”

They then decided to get tested on the Tuesday.

“I test positive, my wife tests positive, Dominik tests negative, Aalyah tests negative,” Rey continued.

Dominik then started to feel sick on Tuesday night and woke up the next day feeling really bad. He then tested positive on Thursday. Aalyah at this point was the only one testing negative and she took care of the rest of them.

“It was probably about a 7 (out of 10),” Rey said when asked how bad it was.

They begin talking about what happened with about 25 minutes remaining in the below podcast:

Rey Mysterio Reveals Dominik Wasn’t Meant To Debut Until 2021

WWE Legend Rey Mysterio has revealed how his son, Dominik Mysterio, was not meant to debut in WWE until 2021. The two recently joined Lilian Garcia as guests for her podcast, Chasing Glory.

“We weren’t expecting this opportunity so quick,” Mysterio told Garcia. “We were still giving it about another year of training. We started to negotiate with WWE for him to potentially sign a developmental deal and we said ok.”

Rey Mysterio shared how he instructed Dominik to travel to the WWE Performance Center and get himself ready. He noted that Dominik needed to be “ready by 2021.”

However, an opportunity to wrestle Seth Rollins arose that forced them to reassess their plans.

“This opportunity presented itself. I told him I can’t say yes or no. It’s up to you. However you feel,” Mysterio said. ‘As a parent, the last thing I wanted him to do is fail on his first try. I said all eyes are on you. It isn’t an indie show with no TV. You are live worldwide, SummerSlam, one of the biggest PPVs in WWE. He took the opportunity. He had been training for almost three years by then.”

Dominik Mysterio explained how he felt confident he could make the most of the opportunity. He highlighted how his training had taken him from “Tempe, to Calgary and then to come home to San Diego.”

He noted how the people had been training with and the positive feedback he received made him feel he could do it. Ultimately, “I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity that was being presented so I jumped on it.”

Dominik Mysterio debuted at WWE’s SummerSlam pay-per-view. He competed in a losing effort against Seth Rollins in a Street Fight.

  • Dominik Mysterio Lists His WWE Dream Opponents

Dominik Mysterio Lists His WWE Dream Opponents

Dominik Mysterio has shared his list of potential dream opponents in a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, pointing to both up-and-comers as well as some of WWE’s top Superstars.

Speaking on The Chris Van Vliet Show, Dominik Mysterio was quick to point to Randy Orton. He admitted he has always been a fan of Orton’s style and in-ring work.

“I’ve always said Randy Orton, just because I’ve always been a big fan and I love his style of work. But I think dream matches besides Randy [would be] someone like Andrade. I think me and him would — I just wrestled him very briefly on Monday, him and [Angel] Garza, but I would love to get in there a little bit longer with Andrade, Garza, Humberto [Carrillo]. I’d love to go one-on-one with Humberto. I think that would be absolutely phenomenal.”

Dominik Mysterio also named WWE Hall of Famer Edge as a top name he’d love to compete against before turning his attention to Superstars on NXT’s roster:

“I’ve worked with Seth [Rollins]. I’d love to wrestle Roman [Reigns]. I think that would be fun as well, but there’s so many guys, and guys in NXT like Adam Cole, guys like Austin Theory. There are so many people I’d love to work with, but we’ll see what the future holds.”

One name that was notably missing from Dominik Mysterio’s list was his father, Rey Mysterio. However, a potential father vs. son matchup could be in the future for both Mysterios if Dominik gets his way.

Dominik Mysterio Talks Potential Match With Father Rey Mysterio

Dominik Mysterio made an impressive debut at the SummerSlam event and since then he has gone on to wrestle several more matches including a tag match where he got to team with his father, Rey Mysterio.

However, the match which people think will draw big money is a fight between the two family members and during a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, the young star talked about this possibility.

Dominik was asked if he will be willing to step in the ring with his father at some point in future. Replying to it, the WWE star said that it won’t happen anytime soon but he’ll be open to the idea:

“Yes, most definitely. I think that’ll be — that’s still a long time from now, but I remember all the spankings he gave me as a kid. So, I’m sure our match will come,”

Mysterio also addressed a concern fans have about the age of his father and when asked how close Rey is to retiring, Dominik claimed that he doesn’t feel like the wrestling legend is going to call it quits anytime soon:

“I don’t think he’s been close to retiring yet. He’s always felt really good. His left knee has been through multiple surgeries, and other than that, he’s still going.

And I always ask him because he’ll jump in the ring with me and train, and I’ll ask him, ‘Hey, how are you feeling? You’re feeling good?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, I feel great’. I don’t think he’s going to call quits anytime soon.”

Dominik Mysterio also talked about a number of other things like Rey Mysterio’s match with Fit Finlay at Cyber Sunday 2017, his dream matches and more.

Dominik Mysterio Comments On Wearing A Mask & Becoming “Prince Mysterio”

Dominik and Rey Mysterio have commented in several interviews that they hope one day Dominik will wear a mask and use the name “Prince Mysterio”. During a recent interview, Dominik spoke about having future plans to be a masked luchador like his father.

“There’s still talks about it,” Dominik said when asked if there was talk about putting a mask on him in WWE. “We would like to eventually get into the tradition of Lucha Libre, which would be putting a mask on me and taking on the name but I think that’s all down the line in the future.”

“Everyone kind of knows my face and what I look like and the idea of wearing a mask is to hide your identity to be able to go out to places and stuff like that,” he continued. “But I think I could find a unique way of bringing a mask into my character.”

He continued to say that he would be known as “Prince Mysterio” as “Rey” means “King” in Spanish.

“My long goal would be Prince Mysterio, for me, since “Rey” in Spanish is “King”. So for my character, it would be Prince Mysterio.”

Latest On Dominik Mysterio’s Push In WWE

It’s no secret that WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon is high on Dominik Mysterio.

Although he’s still new to WWE let alone the pro wrestling business, he has been positioned as one of the top stars on Monday Night RAW.

According to PWinsider.com, WWE officials consider Dominik to be in the top 25%, or one of the top 3 or 4 babyfaces on RAW. It was noted that he has impressed officials so far in his tenure. Thus, with him being so highly regarded in the company, his push will continue.

He has wrestled just 5 matches since making his in-ring debut. His first official match was a Street Fight with Seth Rollins at SummerSlam last month.

WWE booked the son of Rey Mysterio his first-ever Steel Cage match against Rollins on Monday’s episode of RAW on the USA Network as a way to boost viewership when the show goes up against two NFL games on ESPN.

Over the weekend, the WWE Network released the new WWE Day Of documentary on SummerSlam. During it, the footage was shown of how McMahon was impressed with Mysterio’s match.

He thanked Vince for the opportunity when he returned to the Gorilla Position after the loss to Rollins. The WWE boss congratulated him on the performance.

Rey and Dominik Mysterio had the chance to get back at their arch-rivals, Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy.

This tag team contest was booked at the Payback pay-per-view event. It was a back and forth contest with the father and son going over.

The finish featured Murphy accidentally kicking Rollins in the head before Rey hit a sunset flip powerbomb to Rollins into the barricade. Dominik hit the 619 then a frog splash off the top rope to Murphy for the win.

This has been a long term feud that dates back to the original program between Rey and Rollins. Rollins took out an eye of the future WWE Hall of Famer in an Eye for an Eye Match at Extreme Rules.

After being off television for a few weeks, Rey made his return in order to be in the corner of his son when he battled the former Universal Champion in a Street Fight at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event just one week ago that saw Rollins go over.

WWE has already confirmed that Rey will wrestle Rollins in a singles match on this Monday’s episode of RAW on the USA Network in Orlando, Florida at the Amway Center

Dominik Mysterio on Vince McMahon’s Response To His Debut

Dominik Mysterio made his professional wrestling debut at SummerSlam 2020. The match occurred 15 years after his father Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero met at SummerSlam 2005 with custody of Dominik on the line. Dominik recently spoke to Talk Sport about the reaction backstage from Vince McMahon and others to his debut.

“The reaction backstage was crazy. I got very emotional, hugged my mum, hugged my dad, hugged Jamie, Seth – the whole deal. Everyone was very happy and clapping for me, so it was a surreal moment,” Dominik described the backstage atmosphere after his debut.

Dominik also discussed Vince McMahon’s reaction to his debut during the interview.

“I definitely gave the bossman [Vince McMahon] a hug afterwards and thanked him for the opportunity. It was just a crazy experience,” Dominik continued. “From seeing other people and other wrestlers finish their matches and walk through gorilla and hug Vince and stuff like that, having that be my turn to do it… I’m forever grateful.”

Dominik will team with his father tonight to take on Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy at Payback. Tomorrow night on RAW, Rey Mysterio and Seth Rollins will face each other in singles competition.

Dominik also spoke about how he feels it was Vince McMahon’s decision to bring him into the storyline.

“At the end of the day, I don’t know what people think, but I wasn’t asking for things or begging my dad, so I think me being brought into this storyline and being put in the position I was put in was definitely coming from someone that has a lot of power and my guess is that would be Vince. I’m very grateful.”

  • Dominik Mysterio On Wishing Eddie Guerrero Could Have Seen His Debut

Dominik Mysterio On Wishing Eddie Guerrero Could Have Seen His Debut

Dominik Mysterio had his first official pro-wrestling match last night at SummerSlam. The 23-year-old was defeated by Seth Rollins. In a WWE social media exclusive interview, Dominik talked about how he wished Eddie Guerrero was still alive to have seen his debut match.

“I wish Eddie was here, that would have been something else too man. I wish he was here to see this, I think it would have been cool to see his reaction to me debuting 15 years later from him and my Dad having a match for me.”

Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio’s SummerSlam 2005 match carried the stipulation that the winner gained custody of Dominik. In storyline, Eddie was actually revealed as Dominik’s biological father.

“I saw his relationship with my Dad and they were best friends. Every time WWE would have house shows in San Diego, he would stay at our house and he didn’t like to because I guess it was something personal to him and staying in other people’s homes, their own privacy, and stuff. But my Mom forced him, that’s the Mexican in her, she’s like ‘no, no, no, you have to come to my house.’”

“I remember waking up in the morning and having breakfast burritos with them. He always treated me so well with all the stuff that we did and our angle. I think it would have just been cool to have him here,” Dominik continued.

Seth Rollins Victorious Over Dominik Mysterio At WWE SummerSlam

Dominik Mysterio made his in-ring debut when he battled Seth Rollins.

As seen at Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event, the Street Fight saw Rollins get heat by controlling the match. Towards the end, it became more even with Mysterio getting some offense in.

Dominik used a kendo stick to send both he and Rollins off the middle rope through a table. Dominik hit a frogs splash off the top rope for a near fall. At one point, Rey Mysterio was handcuffed to the middle rope. Rollins won with The Stomp.

The son of Rey Mysterio has been training for this moment after working at the Performance Center. Although he had appeared on WWE television and gotten physical before, this was the first time that he had a match.

Rollins had been in a feud with Rey before this one, which morphed into the storyline. Rey finished up his storyline with Rollins when Rollins took out an eye of the future WWE Hall of Famer in an Eye for an Eye Match at Extreme Rules.

WWE made this match official on the August 3rd episode of RAW. Dominik had attacked Rollins and Murphy two weeks in a row. When Dominik challenged Rollins to this match and the former WWE Universal Champion accepted it.
