AEW Touts Triple Main Event For Double Or Nothing 2024

All Elite Wrestling is now promoting a “Triple Main Event” for this month’s AEW Double or Nothing 2024 pay-per-view. The three bouts, each getting equal billing on the Las Vegas marquee, include:

1. In the first main event, Willow Nightingale defends the TBS Championship against the debuting Mercedes Mone. Match order aside, this will mark the first time a women’s match has headlined an AEW PPV.

2. The second main event match is Swerve Strickland, with Prince Nana, defending the AEW World Championship against Christian Cage, who will be accompanied by Killswitch, Nick Wayne, and Mother Wayne. The Patriarch certainly raised the stakes this week by busting Swerve open by using a glass picture frame of his family.

3. The third main event is an Anarchy in the Arena match. The Elite, consisting of Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry, Matthew Jackson, and Nicholas Jackson, will face Team AEW, which includes Bryan Danielson, Cash Wheeler, Dax Harwood, and Darby Allin. The daredevil AEW star made his return to television this week, having taken some time off due to injury.

Update on Jeff Hardy’s Condition During AEW Double or Nothing

An update on Jeff Hardy’s condition during the AEW Double or Nothing PPV has surfaced.

The Hardy Boys took on The Young Bucks at DoN this past Sunday night and fans weren’t exactly left with an instant classic. In fact, many felt that Jeff look quite lethargic throughout the match.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer is reporting that Jeff Hardy was a “mess” going into that match. It’s been said that Jeff’s Owen Hart Cup quarterfinals match with Darby Allin really did a number on him.

At one point in the match with Darby, Jeff went for a Swanton Bomb but Darby got out of the way and Jeff’s back landed right on the stairs.

Many have grown concerned with Jeff Hardy’s use in AEW.

Approaching the age of 45 in late August, Jeff is still allowed to do high spots that many agree he should not be doing at this point in his career.

It’s become quite clear that The Hardy Boys have been pulling out their greatest hits collection since they know this is their final run.

CM Punk On How The AEW Locker Room Feels About Him After Double Or Nothing

CM Punk thinks that the majority of the AEW locker room likes him. The ones who don’t are the same ones who aren’t providing any value themselves.

The wrestling veteran took part in the post-media scrum after Double or Nothing PPV. He was asked about his previous comments about not fitting in the AEW locker room and how he feels now. Punk gave his best diplomatic answer to it:

“I have grown so wise in my old age that I will do my best to be as diplomatic as I possibly can with this answer. If there are people backstage that don’t like me, it’s a minority. If anybody says nobody wants me here and nobody likes me, I would like to say that nobodies don’t like me and nobodies don’t want me here.”

‘There Are No Limitations Here’: CM Punk

CM Punk main evented the Double or Nothing PPV alongside Hangman Adam Page. He defeated the Cowboy to become the new AEW World Heavyweight Champion at the show. Opening up about his recent comment of wasting his time in WWE, Punk said that he feels he never reached his full potential in Vince McMahon’s promotion:

“I said something that I think a lot of people obviously on its face will think is ridiculous. I said I feel like the seven years I was out of the ring I didn’t feel was wasted. I feel almost that the 10 years that I spent in WWE was wasted.

Because I feel it is Management, Owner, Booker, whoever’s job, is to get the most out of all the talent. I feel that I never [reached my full potential]. I reached the potential that I could have given the limitations they constantly put on me. I feel here [in AEW] there’s no limitations put on myself or anybody and sky’s the limit. So I finally feel like I could reach my potential.”

According to CM Punk, he doesn’t have to engage in silly battles in AEW. Tony Khan’s company is a place where everyone can reach their full potential:

“So that’s what I mean. When I say that. God damn, I look back on that time, and I’m like, ‘What are we doing?’ To me, you’re always trying to make the most money and put on the best possible show you can. It felt like 10 years of fighting silly battles and standing on my own d*ck and I’m not in the business of trying to stand on my own d*ck. I’ll say one more time. I don’t do that here. I think everybody here can reach their fullest potential.”

MJF Remains In Las Vegas Ahead Of AEW Double Or Nothing

UPDATE: PWInsider is reporting that MJF remains in Las Vegas despite being booked for a flight out of “Sin City” one night before AEW Double or Nothing. He did not board the plane to Newark, New Jersey.

ORIGINAL:

It looks like the MJF-AEW situation has reached a boiling point.

Earlier today (May 28), MJF failed to show up to a meet and greet during a Fan Fest. PWInsider reported that this wasn’t a work and AEW officials couldn’t contact him despite several attempts.

In an update, Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful has reported that MJF is physically fine and that he has a flight booked out of Las Vegas tonight.

The report notes that it isn’t known whether or not MJF will get on the flight tonight, just that it has been booked.

There is currently no word on why this flight was booked for tonight. It’s been said in the report that some within the company are “very unhappy” with how this situation has unfolded.

MJF has made it clear that he’ll be weighing his options once his AEW contract expires in 2024. He’s dropped several hints of testing the waters with WWE.

It was reported that MJF has been frustrated with his pay. AEW has reportedly been willing to negotiate a new deal but MJF hasn’t been receptive to those overtures.

While MJF has blurred the lines between performance and reality, this report seems to be as real as it gets.

AEW Double or Nothing 2022 Predictions

All Elite Wrestling presents AEW Double or Nothing live on pay-per-view this Sunday from Las Vegas, Nevada.

SEScoops staff members Andrew Ravens, Tyriece Simon and I got together to discuss our predictions for the top matches of this weekend’s big event.

Check out our AEW Double or Nothing 2022 predictions:

Buy In: Hook & Danhausen vs. Tony Nese & Mark Sterling

FSj6yAqXIAMbO04

Andrew Ravens: This has been a fun build, but I would be shocked to see Hook lose a pre-show match just for Tony Nese. Yes, they have the out with Danhausen taking the pinfall loss, but what’s the point of giving Hook a loss? He can’t turn on a fellow babyface as the fans are too invested in him and everyone loves Danhausen. (Prediction: Hookhausen)

Tyriece Simon: The match should be a fun pre-show match. I expect Hookhausen to get the win. I think Sterling takes the pinfall, which helps protect Tony Nese. It’ll be interesting if Hook and Danhausen will remain a tag team and have more matches against other established AEW tag teams. (Prediction: Hookhousen)

Michael Reichlin: This is the most predictable match on the card. AEW wants to start the show off on a good note, and will do so with the lovable pairing of Danhausen and Hook. I’ve heard people talk about Hook being ‘wasted’ in this position, but he’s a rookie and benefits from the association with AEW’s most evil competitor. Hookhausen gets the win in a fun match. (Prediction: Hookhausen)

Consensus: Hookhausen

House of Black (Malakai Black, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews) vs. Death Triangle (Pac, Penta, and Rey Fenix)

FTPs udXwAEUT2b

Andrew Ravens: Although these two teams have received plenty of TV time to build to the match, I haven’t been intrigued enough to care. That’s not to say they won’t work hard and have a good match, but let’s move on to something else. House of Black goes over as they have more upside with Black leading the charge. (Prediction: House of Black)

Michael Reichlin: I’m just happy to see Death Triangle back together, and two legit trios teams squaring off. Everybody in this match is talented, despite both factions seemingly being stuck in first gear. This one has sleeper ‘match of the night’ potential. (Prediction: House of Black)

Tyriece Simon: Death Triangle is long overdue getting a win over House of Black. Malakai Black, Brody King, and Buddy Mathews have looked dominant in AEW. They can afford to lose a match. The Death Triangle needs to win. It will be interesting to see if the feud ends at Double or Nothing. The two factions could benefit from working with other people.

House of Black has other potential rivalries they could have, like the Blackpool Combat Club. Lucha Bros. could get back into the AEW tag team title picture, and Pac could have a singles feud. (Prediction: Death Triangle)

Consensus: House of Black

AEW Women’s World Championship: Thunder Rosa (c) vs. Serena Deeb

Thunder Rosa vs. Serena Deeb

Michael Reichlin: Thunder Rosa needs a big win here. For whatever reason, it seems that her title reign has gotten off to a slow start. Britt Baker was the face of the Women’s division, while Rosa just seems to be there. That’s not a knock on her, but more because of the way she’s been presented. Pairing her against the veteran Deeb is a smart move, because they’re almost guaranteed to have a competitive match. I see Rosa getting the win, as AEW looks to build her some momentum and establish her as a fighting champion (Prediction: Thunder Rosa)

Tyriece Simon: Rosa should get the win, and this should be a good match. The fans are behind the Champion, so it doesn’t seem AEW will take the title off of her. It’s also Rosa’s second title defense. Deeb will have good moments in the match, but it should be about Rosa looking strong and overcoming the challenger. It’s also possible that the match ends so that it could lead to a rematch between the two. (Prediction: Thunder Rosa)

Andrew Ravens: Deeb is a really good wrestler, but no one expects her to dethrone Rosa for the title. Rosa hasn’t had that long as champion and AEW wouldn’t build up her title win for a short reign. (Prediction: Thunder Rosa)

Consensus: Thunder Rosa

AEW World Tag Team Championship: Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus (c) vs. Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland vs. Ricky Starks & Powerhouse Hobbs

Tag Title Match Double or Nothing

Michael Reichlin: Like Thunder Rosa, Jurassic Express have also had a “sleepy” title reign. It doesnt help that FTR, who were left off the PPV, are arguably the best tag team in the world, at least over the past few months. I smell a title change here and I think Lee and Swerve have the right combination of size and agility to take the titles of Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus. (Prediction: Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland)

Andrew Ravens: I can see Lee and Strickland picking up the win here, but if Tony Khan wants heels as his Tag Team Champions then Starks and Hobbs could go over. I think it’s time for new champions and it really comes down to a pick ’em in this bout. (Prediction: Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland)

Tyriece Simon: I think this match has the chance to steal the show. It had an interesting dynamic with every team balancing strength and speed. I expect every team in the match to have a great showing, but I think the Champions retain the titles. It didn’t seem like the time to have the Jurassic Express lose. They are still hitting their stride, and it doesn’t seem likely that AEW will make a change. (Prediction: Jurassic Express)

Consensus: Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland win the AEW tag titles

Anarchy in the Arena: Jericho Appreciation Society vs. Moxley & Bryan Danielson, Santana & Ortiz and Eddie Kingston

FTNNvQFWQAMrQ6d

Andrew Ravens: This is a coin flip kind of match as it makes sense for the babyfaces to go over, but I think the Jericho Appreciation Society wins here in order to set up a Blood & Guts match on an upcoming episode of Dynamite. (Prediction: Jericho Appreciation Society)

Tyriece Simon: This should be a victory for Kingston, Santana, Ortiz, and the Blackpool Combat Club. The Jericho Appreciation Society has gotten the advantage over Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz several times. The Blackpool Combat Club helps even the odds to go against the heels.

I think the feud could end here, unless AEW has more plans for Jericho Appreciation Society and Kingston, Santana, and Ortiz. It feels like Double or Nothing is the final culmination of the rivalry. (Prediction: Blackpool Combat Club, Santana & Ortiz, Eddie Kingston)

Michael Reichlin: (Prediction: Jericho Appreciation Society)

Consensus: Jericho Appreciation Society

AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill vs Anna Jay

FTPYkZOXwAE8 4y

Andrew Ravens: There’s no doubt who will win this match and that’s Jade. She will be pushed strongly until she meets a top star that will defeat her. It’s that simple. This should be kept short and to the point. (Prediction: Jade Cargill)

Tyriece Simon: This title match seems like it’s just to have the TBS Championship match on the card. That’s fine, but I wish Cargill and Jay had more time to make the feud personal.
Cargill should get the win and could continue her dominant reign as TBS Champion. I wonder what long-term plan the company has for Cargill. She’s almost beaten most of the faces in the AEW women’s division. Jay will have some moments to shine in the match, but Cargill will overcome and defeat her. (Prediction: Jade Cargill)

Michael Reichlin: Jade Cargill has gotten over working short, dominant matches. I don’t expect AEW to mess with this formula just yet. This is probably the most predictable match on the main card. Cargill gets another decisive win. (Prediction: Jade Cargill)

Consensus: Jade Cargill

The Young Bucks vs. The Hardys

FTPp8WRWYAAIYwC

Michael Reichlin: Yes, this match is happening on the big stage about 5 years too late. Sure, the Hardys are past their prime – they’re even acknowledging this on television. But it’s still the Young Bucks and the Hardys. Both teams will bring their A-Game, because this is a match that you know means a lot to both teams. It’s going to be a trip seeing them in the ring together and I expect this to be the best match of the Hardys’ AEW run. (Prediction: Young Bucks)

Andrew Ravens: This should be one of the better matches on the card. It’s a coinflip in my eyes as to who goes over. I think we get at least one more match between these two tag teams. I think The Young Bucks go over here to lead to another match and it will likely be done in cheap fashion. (Prediction: Young Bucks)

Tyriece Simon: It’s almost unbelievable that this match is happening in 2022. This is a dream match for fans who haven’t seen them compete in Ring of Honor. However, it is unfortunate that the build to the match has been lackluster. This match is a toss-up because both teams could use the win.

The Hardys are still a new team in AEW and could use a win over an established team. The Young Bucks feel like they took a backseat to other teams and could benefit from a win over the Hardys. I think the Hardys defeat The Young Bucks, but it won’t be the end of their feud. The Hardys winning could also lead to a future AEW tag-team Championship match. (Prediction: The Hardys)

Consensus: Young Bucks

Owen Hart Men’s Tournament Finals: Samoa Joe vs. Adam Cole

Tyriece Simon: Adam Cole needs a big win at Double or Nothing. He’s lost two AEW World Championship matches against Hangman Adam Page previously. A win over Samoa Joe helps establish him as a credible threat and someone that can challenge for the World Championship again. Joe is already the Ring of Honor Television Champion, so he doesn’t need to win the Owen Hart Cup. It’s also possible that Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and Satnam Singh could interfere in the match to help Cole. (Prediction: Adam Cole)

Michael Reichlin: Adam Cole has more to gain from a win here, and has the brighter future in AEW. These two have history in NXT and traveled similar paths to AEW. It’s a match worthy of the finals, but I’d be really surprised if Cole doesn’t get the win. (Prediction: Adam Cole)

Andrew Ravens: This could be one of the best matches of the night. I’m siding with Adam Cole here as he needs a big win after dropping back-to-back losses to Adam Page for the World Title. Joe has booked strong as the ROH Champion so he doesn’t need the win as much as Cole. (Prediction: Adam Cole)

Consensus: Adam Cole

Owen Hart Women’s Tournament Finals: Britt Baker vs. Ruby Soho

Tyriece Simon: Dr. Baker doesn’t need to win the Owen Hart Cup. She is a former dominant AEW women’s Champion and has defeated many challengers, including her opponent at Double or Nothing. However, it’s unclear if AEW believes she doesn’t need to win. She is still one of the most popular stars in AEW, and the company could still want to protect her from taking losses. Soho needs a win and could benefit tremendously from defeating Dr. Baker.
I am picking Soho, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the former AEW champion wins. (Prediction: Ruby Soho)

Andrew Ravens: Ruby Soho should win here as Baker is still the biggest women’s star that AEW has despite not holding the title anymore. Soho needs something to get her over a little bit more and a win here over Baker would do just that. We could also get a double turn with Soho going heel and Baker being a babyface based on the way Soho got here. (Prediction: Ruby Soho)

Michael Reichlin: Ruby Soho’s AEW run has been disappointing so far, and this will be a token achievement she can hang her hat on. Baker will almost certainly hold the AEW Women’s world championship again, while I’m not sure Ruby Soho will ever reach that level. (Prediction: Britt Baker)

Consensus: Ruby Soho

FSr2VG XsAAiAfO

MJF vs. Wardlow

Tyriece Simon: Wardlow should win his long-awaited match with MJF. His former employer has put him through so much trouble that the logical conclusion is for Wardlow to win. The feud has also been brewing for over a year, and it is time to end. Interestingly, MJF will possibly lose his second Pay Per View match. It’s unclear what AEW’s long-term plans are for him. (Prediction: Wardlow)

Andrew Ravens: Wardlow should over here based on everything that is on the line. He’s a future main eventer and MJF is already there despite not challenging for the World Title yet. That will come. This has been a really good feud and now it’s just time to top it off with Wardlow winning. (Prediction: Wardlow)

Michael Reichlin: This has been one of the best feuds in AEW history, bar none. The slow burn has been tremendous. It’s AEW’s longest running storyline and it’s finally coming to fruition. MJF is the best heel in all of pro wrestling, which means he doesn’t need to win to stay popular. Wardlow is a rising babyface star that will gain a lot by finally pinning the man he was hired to protect. Wardlow gets the win here, is relieved of his contract to MJF. It’s only a matter of time before Wardlow is All Elite. (Prediction: Wardlow)

Consensus: Wardlow

AEW World Championship: Hangman Page (c) vs. CM Punk

FTeO4ASXwAAPOow
“Hangman” Adam Page vs. CM Punk

Andrew Ravens: I think a title change happens here. Page has had a notable run as champion, maybe not the best in the history of the title, but it was fun and now it’s time to move on. Fans have been waiting to see Punk as a main event player again. Punk could only put over the young guys in his promos for so long and now in the last few months, it’s been building to this point. Give Punk the title and turn Page heel since they’ve already hinted at it. (Prediction: CM Punk)

Tyriece Simon: Double or Nothing could be the end of Hangman Adam Page’s title reign. We are getting close to the anniversary of CM Punk AEW debut, and he has slowly been built up to have his first AEW World Championship match. Page has had a remarkable title reign, but it feels like this is the time to take the championship off him. It should be a good physical match, but I expect CM Punk to get the better of Page. The question is will Page shake CM Punk’s hand after the match? (Prediction: CM Punk)

Michael Reichlin: I love Hangman Page and he’s had some banger matches during since winning the AEW World title from Kenny Omega. However, he’s not exactly setting the world on fire as champion. I think CM Punk turns heel and gets the win to jumpstart the next Summer of Punk. There are so many high-profile matches waiting for a heel CM Punk. And just wait until MJF gets to gloat, “I told you so” about Punk being a bad guy all along. Hangman can be proud of this title reign, but I it’s time to turn the page and start a new chapter for AEW. (Prediction: CM Punk)

Consensus: CM Punk

Over $1.1 Million In Tickets For DON 2022

During the pre-AEW Double or Nothing 2022 media call, AEW Owner Tony Khan said,

“This is the biggest live attendance we’ve ever had. It’s a great barometer in pro wrestling. The live fans in the arena set the pace for fans all over the world.

“Obviously, with their reactions in the arena to people they see in the ring, but also how they spend their money and how they make their presence felt at the show.

“For us to set our attendance record already with well over a million dollars, I think over $1.1 million in tickets sold to Sunday’s pay-per-view, that is an amazing milestone for us and I also believe it’s indicative of huge interest in Double or Nothing 2022.”

Double Or Nothing Draws Second Most PPV Buys in AEW History

Things are looking good for AEW. Figures for the final AEW Dynamite before the PPV might have been the lowest in company history, but Double or Nothing set that right. Initial figures are showing that the show was the second most successful event in AEW’s history.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CPipmyfBeWV/

Double or Nothing 2021 had over 134,000 buys according to US streaming sources. This was announced by Dave Meltzer and the Wrestling Observer. The current record PPV for the company remains March’s Revolution which featured the much talked about barbed wire deathmatch.

This was the third Double or Nothing show and is one of the four main events each year. Looking at the figures, the 2021 show is 12% up on the same show in 2020. Coming at the end of a month of big announcements and marquee signings for the company, the consistent increase in viewership numbers all point towards a bright future.

What is interesting to note is that both Revolution and Double or Nothing took place on a Sunday evening. The next two core shows for the company, All Out and Full Gear, are being held on a Saturday. It will be interesting to see how these two shows compare.

On top of the great online sales numbers, Double or Nothing took place in front of a capacity crowd. This further confirms the growing interest in the AEW brand.

With more shows and special events planned in the coming months and years, AEW is certainly pushing thing forward at a fast pace.

After the match, Cage shoved Hook and Ricky Starks away and left the ring.

Young Bucks Retained In A Great Match

The Young Bucks defended the AEW Tag Team Championships against Jon Moxley & Eddie Kingston tonight at Double or Nothing. Moxley and Kingston entered to “Wild Thing” as the crowd sang along and Don Callis accompanied the champs to the ring.

Marq Quen entered and Private Party hit Gin & Juice on Pillman and then eliminated him. Aaron Solow, Evil Uno, and Lee Johnson entered the match and Solow was quickly eliminated.

Matt sent Lee Johnson over the top rope for the quick elimination and then battled with Jungle Boy. Pentagon sent Evil Uno to the apron and eliminated him with a kick to the face. Jungle Boy eliminated Pentagon as Hobbs got back into the ring. Powerhouse went for a Splash but Christian got out of the way.

Cage then sent Hobbs over the top rope for the elimination. Private Party then beat Christian and Jungle Boy down until the “joker” entered the match. Lio Rush was revealed as the joker and hit Kassidy with a Splash. Lio planted Quen with a Destroyer and then a Spanish Fly to Kassidy.

Inner Circle Won Stadium Stampede

The Pinnacle faced Inner Circle in a Stadium Stampede match. MJF cut a promo before the match and Inner Circle entered the stadium by repelling down the scoreboard. MJF hopped in his limo and locked Inner Circle out. FTR, Wardlow, Shawn Spears, and Tully Blanchard showed up and ambushed Inner Circle.

Sammy and Spears battled in the ring at the center of the stadium as Hager tried to shove Wardlow into a burning trash can. Sammy planted Spears with a springboard Cutter and then kneed Wardlow in the face. Guevara hopped back to the top rope and went for a flip but Spears dodged it. Spears planted Sammy with a Blue Thunder Bomb as MJF emerged from the limo.

Chris Jericho got in MJF’s face as The Pinnacle and Inner Circle brawled around them. MJF sprayed Le Champion with a fire extinguisher and then scampered away. Jericho chased after him as Santana threw Cash Wheeler into the stands. Chris caught up to MJF and shoved his head into a trash can. Urban threw Jericho a football and he launched it MJF.

MJF poked Jericho in the eye and swung a helmet at him. Jericho ducked and wheeled MJF out of the office with a computer chair. MJF hit Jericho’s injured arm but Jericho flipped a whiteboard into Max’s face. Chris found another trash can and threw it at MJF before tacking him through a door.

Hager and Wardlow then traded punches backstage. Wardlow bounced Hager off a wall and tried to lock him in a freezer. Wardlow hit Hager with some containers before Jake shoved him into the freezer. Wardlow tried to hit Hager with an icepick but Jake blocked it. Hager beat Wardlow down and the two battled out of the freezer. Wardlow bounced a storage crate off Hager’s face and shoved him into it a few times.

Jake flipped off Wardlow and it just pissed him off. Wardlow hit Hager with a knee to the ribs and then a massive right hand. Hager flipped Wardlow off again and he Speared him through a gimmicked wall. Sammy stumbled upon Shawn sitting in a room full of chairs. Sammy hit a flying forearm but Spears battled back with a running kick to the face.

Guevara choked Spears with an extension cord but Shawn grabbed a ladder and bounced it off Sammy’s face. Spears then handcuffed Sammy and walked away.

Santana & Ortiz found FTR and Tully in the VIP club and beat up everyone else. The two teams shared a drink before Konnan was revealed as the DJ. The two teams started brawling all over the place and trading punches while rolling around on the floor.

Tully tried to hit Ortiz with a pipe but Konnan stopped him. Ortiz jabbed Tully in the ribs and hit him over the head. Cash and Dax broke it up and started brawling with Santana & Ortiz again. Ortiz bashed Harwood down to the ground with a trash can over and over gain. Cash started throwing beer bottles at Ortiz until he fell to his knees.

Guevara climbed to the top rope and hit a 630 Senton on Spears for the pinfall victory. Inner Circle defeated The Pinnacle in the Stadium Stampede match and will stay together as a faction. Inner Circle flipped the bird in the ring as pyro went off to close Double or Nothing.

Opinion: The Stadium Stampede match was fun but it took too long for the action to get to Daily’s Place in my opinion. The live crowd was adding so much to this show and there was a lull during the first portion of Stadium Stampede as they battled in TIAA Bank Field. There were still several fun moments and the energy really picked up when they arrived in Daily’s Place. Overall, Double or Nothing was a very entertaining show. The low point was Rhodes vs. Ogogo but every other match delivered and the four hour show flew by.

AEW Confirms Date For Double Or Nothing PPV

AEW confirmed the date and details of the change in venue for their next PPV event Double Or Nothing during tonight’s Evolution pay per view.

They announced the details via a vignette during the show and confirmed that their next big event will be taking place in two months on Sunday, May 30.

The company also confirmed a change of venue for the show from their original location and they announced that the show is being relocated to Daily’s Place in Jacksonville, Florida:

The original announced venue for Double or Nothing was the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The event took place from Daily’s Place last year as well after the pandemic forced them to change the plans.

The company has also made a slight change to the original date of the show. It was originally going to take place on Saturday, May 29, and Double Or Nothing would be the second Sunday PPV for AEW after Evolution.

Double Or Nothing was the inaugural PPV for All Elite Wrestling in 2019 which saw Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho competing in the main event. The show also saw the debut of Jon Moxley who had left WWE just a month earlier.

The Elite Wins Stadium Stampede Match At AEW Double Or Nothing

The highly anticipated Stadium Stampede Match is in the books and what a sight it was at AEW Double or Nothing.

The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana, and Ortiz) vs. The Elite (Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks, and Adam Page) was the main event.

As seen on the show, The Elite went over. The Inner Circle was wearing football jerseys with the Inner Circle logo on them. Each group had football entrances. The contest featured a series of wild spots. They started outside of the ring in the stadium.

Matt Jackson got on a goal post to hit a moonsault onto the Inner Circle. Page entered the stadium on a horse and chased Guevara into the tunnel. Santana and Ortiz tried to drown Hardy in the pool but Matt transformed into various characters.

Hardy put Santana into the icebox and put a stick through the doors to keep him there. Matt told him that it would help his inflammation. Hardy rang a giant bell with Ortiz underneath then put him in a wheelchair and duct-taped him to it while Ortiz was convulsing.

Page and Hager had a brawl fight that ended with Page and Omega drinking whiskey and milk. Matt Jackson hit a series of suplexes to Sammy across the field. Nick hit Jericho a series of times with footballs then super kicked Jericho through a kicking net. Jericho attacked the Jaguars mascot. Page got the line marker and walked over Jericho with it.

AEW Taping Big Double Or Nothing Match In Advance

One match will reportedly not be live come Saturday night at the AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view event.

It was noted on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Live that All Elite Wrestling is taping the Stadium Stampede match on Friday in Jacksonville, Florida. The reason for this ten-man match being taped is so AEW can edit the contest and put it together ahead of the broadcast.

As of this writing, there’s still no word yet as to what the main event of Double or Nothing will be. It’s possible that the Stadium Stampede will serve as the headliner of the show.

This contest is to take place from the empty TIAA Bank Field, the home of the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars

It’ll see The Elite (The Young Bucks, AEW World Tag Team Champions Kenny Omega & Hangman Page) and Matt Hardy vs. The Inner Circle (Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, Jake Hager, Santana, Ortiz).

Although not confirmed, there’s speculation that it will feature a few cameo appearances and some surprises. It’s supposed to be a wild brawl with the wrestlers having the entire stadium and football field to do battle on. A ring is going to be set up in the middle of the field.

Brodie Lee Is Ready For Jon Moxley: “I’m Not Afraid Of Violence” (Exclusive)

Brodie Lee challenges Jon Moxley for the AEW World Championship this Saturday night at AEW Double or Nothing.

Just days before the biggest match of his career, The Exalted One spoke with SEScoops about how he’s preparing for the bout.

“It’s a lot of cardio right now,” he began. “Having not been in the ring for the better part of a year almost, I think I had 7 matches last year in WWE and maybe 3 at the end of the year and then 0. I’ve had 1 match over 3 minutes this year. So, it’s a lot of cardio, a lot of preparing myself for a long battle.”

“I know exactly what Jon Moxley is going to bring. He’s very violent, he likes to punch you in the face right away. So I think that’ll snap me out of any kind of slumber I might be in real quick. And I know he’s going to bring a level of violence that I have to be prepared for and I am prepared for that because I’m not afraid of violence.”

He then revealed that his wife is concerned about what will transpire at Double or Nothing.

“Before I left the house on Tuesday, my wife told me ‘you and Jon Moxley scare me.’ I think she knows and hopefully the fans know that when we link it up it’s going to be something, I guess, terrible, is a good description.”

There’s no doubt that Jon Moxley will bring the violence. However, Brodie Lee feels he has the advantage when it comes to size, agility and instability.

“I know I have the size advantage, I maybe have the agility advantage,” he continued. “He probably thinks he’s a little more violent than me but there’s definitely something wrong up here [in his head].”

Thanks to Brodie Lee for chatting with us. You can check out our full interview below.

AEW Casino Ladder Match Rules Announced, Participants

The Casino Ladder Match is sure to be one of the standout matches of Saturday’s AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view.

Multi-man ladder matches are always exciting affairs. Money in the Bank is one of WWE’s most popular events for good reason. The stakes will be high this weekend. Similar to Money in the Bank, the winner of AEW’s first Casino Ladder Match will earn the right to challenge the AEW World Champion at a future date.

Below, you’ll find a full breakdown of the rules and confirmed participants.

Casino Ladder Match Rules

AEW commentator Excalibur ran down the rules of the match on this week’s edition of AEW Dark. The rules are as follows:

  • There will be a poker chip hanging above the ring.
  • Two competitors will begin the match.
  • Every 90 seconds, a new competitor will join.
  • The winner is the first man to retrieve the poker chip.

Excalibur teased that the match could end before all 9 participants have entered, but this rule has not been explicitly stated.

Championship Match Added To AEW Double Or Nothing

Nyla Rose has her next opponent.

As seen on the show, Shida ended up winning it. As a result, Shida has earned the right to challenge Jericho for the AEW Women’s Title at the Double or Nothing PPV event.

The AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view event will take place on Saturday, May 23, 2020 in Jacksonville, Florida at Daily’s Place and will be held in front of no fans on a closed set. Here is the updated card:
