The finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic 2020 tournament are set.
The third batch of matches in this tournament took place on Wednesday’s episode of NXT on the USA Network in Winter Park, Florida at Full Sail University.
Those matches saw Imperium (Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner) Pete Dunne and Matt Riddle as well as Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish take on the Grizzled Young Veterans. Dunne and Riddle won their bout while Grizzled Young Veterans was victorious. After the match, the two teams cut a promo about how they would win the trophy.
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals
Now, Grizzled Young Veterans taking on Dunne and Riddle will go down in the finals of this contest. WWE has announced when the finals will take place.
There was speculation the match could be saved for three potential shows including an episode of NXT or NXT TakeOver: Portland or WWE Worlds Collide.
The Worlds Collide event goes down this Saturday in Houston, Texas at the Toyota Center as part of Royal Rumble weekend. The NXT TakeOver: Portland show goes down on Sunday, February 16, 2020 in Portland, Oregon at the Moda Center and will air on the WWE Network.
Instead, WWE confirmed that this match will take place on next week’s episode of NXT on the USA Network.
The semi-finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic 2020 tournament are set.

WWE held the first batch of matches last week that saw Imperium (Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner) def. The Forgotten Sons (Wesley Blake & Steve Cutler) and NXT Tag Team Champions The Undisputed ERA (Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish) def. NXT UK Tag Team Champions Gallus (Mark Coffey & Wolfgang).
Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Semi-Finals

This is the fifth installment of WWE NXT’s tag team tournament honoring the late American Dream. The winners will be awarded the Dusty Rhodes Classic Cup trophy, which is modeled after Dusty’s signature cowboy wrestling boots.

The tournament was established in 2015 as a tribute to the legendary pro wrestler, who was also a key figure behind the scenes at the WWE Performance Center that serves a training facility to develop athletes into WWE Superstars.
WWE announced the tag teams that will be competing in the tournament on Wednesday’s episode of NXT on the USA Network as the tournament will be playing out on the television program.
2020 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Stars
The eight teams in this year’s tournament include:
Finn Balor and Samoa Joe won the inaugural tournament in 2015 at NXT TakeOver: Respect by beating The Revival (Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson). In 2016, The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) won by beating at NXT TakeOver: Toronto and the following year, AOP won as they beat TM-61 (Nick Miller and Shane Thorne).
In 2018, The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly) defeated The Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) and Pete Dunne and Roderick Strong while last year featured Aleister Black and Ricochet getting the win.

The bracket has been released for this year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament.
The tournament kicks off with first round matches on the March 7th episode of NXT. The tournament winners will earn the right to challenge NXT Tag Team Champions Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly at TakeOver: New Orleans during WrestleMania weekend.

NXT taped more matches at Sunday’s house show in Hollywood as The Authors defeated Gargano & Ciampa while TM-61 defeated Sanity to advance to the finals, which will take place on 11/19 at TakeOver: Toronto.

NXT taped Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic matches at last night’s house show in San Jose, California.
The matches saw The Authors of Pain defeat Rich Swann and No Way Jose to advance, plus Shane Thorne of TM-61 go over Roderick Strong to advance his team.
Strong vs. Thorne was made by William Regal due to the injury Austin Aries suffered on Thursday in Sacramento.
TM-61 will now face Sanity in the semi-finals while Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa will face The Authors of Pain. The finals will then take place at TakeOver: Toronto during Survivor Series weekend.
The first round of the NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic wrapped last night with Kota Ibushi & TJ Perkins defeating Lince Dorado & Mustafa Ali to advance. Gargano & Ciampa also defeated Tian Bing and HoHo Lun to advance.
Gargano and Ciampa will now face The Revival and Ibushi & Perkins will face Sanity, which takes place next week. Also set for next week is Rich Swann & No Way Jose vs. The Authors of Pain.

Kota Ibushi recently did an interview with Tokyo Sports and this is what he said when asked about signing with the WWE full time.
“Zero chance. Absolutely not. But these one shot deals are an absolute plus for all concerned. If I can be the precedent for this kind of deal, it opens the doors for a lot of Japanese talent in wwe.”
Kota Ibushi will once again be appearing in NXT during the 2016 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic when he teams with Hideo Itami.
With the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic kicking off this Wednesday night on NXT, WWE announced two more teams that will be participating in the 16-team single elimination tournament.
The second annual Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic begins next week on NXT and we now know 8 of the 12 teams competing in the single-elimination tournament:
Former NXT Champions Finn Balor and Samoa Joe made history last year by winning the inaugural event. The finals of this year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic take place at NXT TakeOver: Toronto on Saturday night, November 19th.
– WWE’s production crew is in the midst of a crazy week, with Backlash on Sunday night, RAW on Monday, SmackDown on Tuesday, last night’s Cruiserweight Classic live finale and now tonight’s NXT tapings from Full Sail University.
– The second annual NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament is now “back on” after WWE officials had put the idea on hold in recent months.
– WWE officials have discussed doing a tournament series featuring all women, similar to the Cruiserweight Classic. It’s still in the preliminary stages of planning, but the event would take place during the first quarter of 2017.

This summer, WWE will present the Global Cruiserweight Series tournament on the WWE Network, a 10-episode series featuring 32 of the world’s top lightweight competitors. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there are more tournaments in the works.
The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic will be returning later this year. Last year’s inaugural tournament was a phenomenal showcase of talent, with Finn Balor and Samoa Joe being crowned the winners. Back in March, Cody Rhodes confirmed that it will be an annual event.
WWE is also considering a women’s tournament to air on the WWE Network. Like the Global Cruiserweight Series, the women’s tournament would feature a mix of current talents as well as unsigned standout female competitors from around the world.
At Wednesday’s NXT Takeover: Respect special on the WWE Network, the first-ever “Dusty Rhodes Tag-Team Classic” tournament winners were crowned.
The teams of Finn Balor & Samoe Joe, The Mechanics, Baron Corbin & Rhyno and Chad Gable & Jason Jordan advanced to tonight’s WWE Network special, with Balor and Joe eliminating The Mechanics in the opener, and the team of Corbin and Rhyno taking out the team of Gable and Jordan to advance to the finals.
In the finals, which were held in the co-main event spot of the NXT special, Balor and Joe ended up defeating Corbin and Rhyno, who put up a good effort.
Cody Rhodes came out to do the Dusty Rhodes Tag-Team Classic Cup presentation to Balor and Joe. He mentioned that tonight everyone is a “Rhodes” member as “The American Dream” theme music played and the fans echo’d chants of “Thank You Dusty! Thank You Dusty!” to close out the first ever Dusty Classic Tournament and move on to the 30-minute “Ironwoman Match” for the NXT Women’s Champion.
It was announced on this week’s edition of NXT TV that the final four teams in the Dusty Rhodes Tag-Team Classic will advance to NXT Takeover: Respect on October 7th to compete in the semi-finals and finals in the same evening.
