“The fact that they’ve been able to have a year build-up is unheard of. It’s almost impossible. You look at Savage vs. Steamboat, Andre vs. Hogan … How do you keep these guys apart for that long. Luckily, with Rock’s schedule, it wasn’t difficult. As a fan, I’m loving it. I’ve been watching Triple H and Undertaker and Rock and Cena. Would it be fun to be in their shoes? Sure. But I will sit up in a box with my family and enjoy the show. There will be no pressure, no dangerous bumps and no mid-air spears from Jeff Hardy. Sure there will be moments that I wish I was in there. I’m sure it was the same with Brett Favre and John Elway where they were watching football and thinking: ‘I wish I had made that play.'”

Edge’s Original Retirement Plans, Who He Wanted To Wrestle

2012 WWE Hall of Fame inductee Edge appeared on Between The Ropes with Brian Fritz. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

What he misses the most about not being with WWE on a day-to-day basis: “Honestly, I don’t miss anything about being on the road. If there’s things I miss, it would be the camaraderie of some of the guys. Being able to see Kane every week or Christian every week or (Dolph) Ziggler, guys I’m good friends with and road with. I miss that. I don’t miss the travel. I don’t miss being constantly exhausted, constantly sore and feeling like a zombie. I don’t miss that at all. I wake up now and my body doesn’t hurt. I have some neck days here and there but the rest of me feels great. So I’ll get out and mountain bike 35 miles. I wouldn’t have the energy to do that when I was working. So, I don’t miss much. I miss the guys and the feeling of that crowd reaction when you have a good match but beyond that not a whole lot.”

If he starting mapping out his final year in the WWE which he was planning before the neck injury forced him to retire: “I wanted to try and build it to Christian and I at a WrestleMania if it was possible. It looked like if I would have stuck around it would have happened before that. I think we would have got to him and I this year. I was kind of hoping that this would be the last year, the last Mania and gauge it from there. If I had another year left in me, sign for another year because my contract is up this month. I thought I’ll sit down at this year’s WrestleMania and see where I’m at. But if it could have built to where it would have been Christian and I at this year’s WrestleMania then I don’t think there would have been any other way to go. It’s like why bother, so I can do another year just to do another match that won’t mean as much to me in the final match. But I had been mentally preparing for it. I knew or assumed that it would be this year. So, it wasn’t that hard to come to terms or grips with. I think it was harder for other people. I’ve had a lot of grown men come up to me, man, I’m just so bummed, I was crying. I was like thanks but I knew what was going on in my body so it wasn’t as much of a shock to me I guess.”

His thoughts on the build to The Rock vs. John Cena at WrestleMania 28: “I’ve really enjoyed it. I like the promos. I like the fact that you can tell they don’t like each other. I also like the fact that you have a match that’s a year in the making, especially with nowadays schedule and the amount of TV programming that we have. For them to be able to do a match a year out and not touch, nowadays is mind blowing. I think people have lost respect for that aspect of it. You know, everybody goes ‘back in the day programs last longer and they didn’t get blown off so quick’. Well yeah but there wasn’t six hours of programming every week or whatever it is. It’s hard to keep guys apart to do Savage vs. Steamboat nowadays. Back when I was a kid growing up, you had Wrestling Superstars or one hour on a Saturday from 11-12 or 12-1. It was easy to keep guys apart. Not any more. It’s changed. So the fact that they’ve been able to do this year-long program without touching is astounding to me. And the fact that if Rock comes back next year, who knows? They could go again next year. Then you essentially have a three-year program with two matches. That’s amazing. There’s always going to be people that will complain if they haven’t touched this, that or the other but then will complain if they blow it off too quick. You just got to sit back and enjoy this and take it for what it is because it hasn’t actually been done before.”

Edge Reveals Who Will Induct Him & Original Retirement Plans

Extreme Pro Wrestling Radio with Edge
Hosts: Big D, Crisco, and Road Warrior Animal
Available at KFAN.com.

Edge on his actual retirement plans:

“I was going to get through WrestleMania 27 and then wrestle through the year and call it quits after WrestleMania 28. So I was planning on sticking around for another year.”

Edge on whether it was easy to retire knowing that if he continued it could affect his quality of life:

“I had no choice. The WWE medical staff kept a real close eye on my health and the situation with my neck and we knew it could be anytime now. They wouldn’t clear me to compete so it was pretty easy.”

Edge on who is inducting him into the Hall Of Fame:

“Christian. The WWE asked me the other day and it wouldn’t make sense to have anyone else. I mean if I showed up and Sarge (Sargent Slaughter) was inducting me, I’d be like, ‘I love ya’ Sarge, but why you?”

Edge also confirmed the release of his DVD set the first week of April.

Edge Talks Wrestling Being Overscripted, Cena’s Role

Bending The Rules

2012 WWE Hall of Famer Edge recently spoke with Aint It Cool News to promote his new WWE Studios film, Bending the Rules. Here are a few of the highlights:

Edge was asked if he thinks wrestling is too scripted today. He said:

“I think to an extent. I think you can tell the guys that do adlib. I was happy with the fact that I was one of those guys and Jericho was one of those guys and Punk is one of those guys. The guys who are good at it you can tell. I do also think that there’s always that little bit of rose tinted glasses. People look back so fondly on it, but if you look back at some of those promos and you almost wished that they could have had someone to reign it in, because a lot of them are rambling and nonsensical. [Interviewer brings up The Ultimate Warrior] Man, like ‘What’s going on?’ But here’s the thing, the programming changed. Okay, so when I’m growing up there’s one hour on Saturday mornings to fill. There’s a whole lot more content to have to fill now, so now you have a lot more speaking. There wasn’t such a thing as a ten minute promo before. There wasn’t. That wasn’t the case. It would be a quick cut back to Mean Gene talking to Sid Justice for 45 seconds.”

What he thinks about John Cena’s role in WWE – and Cena’ responsibility to live up to the spot he’s in:

“I think what it is honestly is he has been told he is the one that’s supposed to take this role. I think there has to be that guy and I think he’s been given that role and he’s making sure that he sticks to it and he’s probably being told to stick to it, like ‘You are going to be the face of this. You need to be the guy that we can take to sponsors. You need to be the guy that’s not dangerous for kids to watch. You need to be that guy’ and in doing that sure it will pigeonhole him and alienate him to a certain audience, but looking at the broader picture a lot of the audience does like what he does. I mean think about it, back when I was growing up Hulk Hogan was this huge hero and if he did what he did then now it’d be the same reaction. He would be getting booed out of the building, so there needs to be that guy and John just happens to be that guy.”

There’s much more to the interview, including a lot of talk about Edge’s budding acting career.

Edge Talks About Christian Inducting Him, Rock’s WWE Return

Former WWE superstar Edge appeared on The Big J Show radio show (KRSQ Hot 101.9) this week to hype his upcoming movie “Bending The Rules” and his induction into the WWE’s Hall of Fame. Here are some highlights of what Edge said about:

Bending The Rules movie: “It stars me and Jamie Kennedy who, like me, is a complete idiot. It was an interesting process. I had done stuff before, but nothing to this extent where I was like one of the stars of the movie. I don’t look at myself as an actor. I never took classes, all my experience came from LIVE WWE. Both aspects are fun, but I gotta say I live is better, but a lot of that is I grew up wanting to be a wrestler.”

Christian Inducting Him: “It’s been a strange year. It’s been a surreal year. This time last year I was preparing to perform on Wrestlemania and not even a year later I am being inducted into the Hall of Fame and all kind of unexpected. It’s been a very cool year, but a lot of changes this year. They asked me who I wanted to induct me and I told them Christian because that’s the no-brainer. That was the last thing I said about it. I think it needs to be him.”

The Rock’s Return to WWE:  “Rock is a huge star, he should come back and be a huge star. The guy didn’t HAVE to come back. If you’re good enough, you’re not going to lose a spot. If you lose a spot, guess what, you’re not good enough. You shouldn’t be able to be taken off a show. My mentality was if guys came back I don’t care what they do, I know what I’m going to do and I’m going to get on that show. So if you don’t get on the show it’s your own fault.

Reason For Mason Ryan’s Demotion, Lance Storm Attending HOF

Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer reports that Mason Ryan’s sizable push was halted weeks ago due to his inability to connect with the audience. Nonetheless, WWE creative plans on renewing his push in the near future as they feel he has great potential. The Welsh wrestler was ultimately kept off Sunday’s 30-Man Royal Rumble Match because they felt it would have done “nothing positive” for him.

Meltzer adds that Vince McMahon at least initially had an “infatuation” with Ryan, hence his fast track to the main roster last year and subsequent protection on television.

— Lance Storm stated Tuesday on Twitter that he will be attending the WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Miami, Florida to see longtime friend Edge’s enshrinement. He added that he does not know yet if he’ll stay for WrestleMania.

JR Blog: Edge & Flair HOF News, Brodus Clay’s Debut, Undertaker

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Edge In The Hall of Fame: “Is Edge going into the WWE HOF ‘too early?’ Not in my view. I don’t know that a waiting period even exists, I’d suggest there is none, for going into the WWE HOF after retirement. It certainly didn’t apply to the King and I who both went in the HOF in 2007 while both still active. Edge is extremely deserving and when one examines his total body of work, it is incredible.”

Brodus Clay’s Debut: “Thought on Brodus Clay’s Raw debut? It certainly wasn’t what many fans obviously thought it was going to be. I think much too much has been made of it from a negative point of view. It was only week one and we were exposed to the new, updated ring persona for what, 6-8 minutes? I’m not smart enough to stamp something yeah or nay after 6-8 minutes but I do like Clay’s physicality and big man athleticism. How he is ‘gift wrapped’ is subjective but what he does bell to bell is always what counts most in my eyes. I’d suggest fans exhale and see how the persona evolves before continuing all the knee jerking. For the record, I am a fan of Brodus Clay.”

Flair At The Hall of Fame: “Do I think that Ric Flair will attend the WWE HOF Ceremony to join the Horsemen? Absolutely. I’d bet on it. This is merely my personal opinion but knowing Naitch as well and for as long as I have, I don’t see him missing this night no matter if he works elsewhere or not.”

Undertaker At WrestleMania: “I still feel Taker will defend his Streak at Wrestlemania in Miami. I still feel that the Streak will be next to impossible to end. I don’t know when Taker will return to WWE TV but I’d merely suggest 4-6 weeks before WM28 would be a viable window…but I do not know. I also don’t know who will face the Deadman but remain steadfast that The Streak is as big an element as any thing that can or will be booked at WM28 so one could assume that the opponent will be significant.”
