VIDEO: Edge’s Retirement Speech From RAW

The Rated R superstar Edge announces that injuries are forcing him into retirement:

Latest “Tough Enough” Elimination, Maryse To Answer DiBiase

— Matt Capiccioni (a/k/a Matt Cross) was eliminated from last night’s episode of WWE Tough Enough because Steve Austin didn’t like the fact that Capiccioni had been on the independent wrestling scene for nine years and hadn’t “broke free from the pack.” This, as well as his general reluctance to take risks, led to him being cut.

— WWE.com is advertising the following for tonight’s episode of WWE NXT: “On WWE NXT, host Maryse was told by her boyfriend, Ted DiBiase, that she must pick him or the show. Is the beautiful and witty Diva’s Tuesday night fun over?”

— Edge is advertised to surrender the World Heavyweight Championship at tonight’s WWE SmackDown taping in Albany, New York. In a trivia note, Edge will be vacating the title in the same building he won his first WWE Championship, which took place in 2006 at WWE New Year’s Revolution. After John Cena won the Elimination Chamber Match, he cashed in the Money in the Bank briefcase and subsequently won the strap.

Update On World Heavyweight Title, Christian On Edge, More

— It was announced during a commercial on Raw that Edge would surrender the World Heavyweight Championship this Friday on SmackDown.

— Christian and Natalya commented on Edge announcing his retirement tonight on Raw. Both wrote on Twitter:

Christian: “I’ve shed my tears..And from here on out I choose 2celebrate 1 of the greatest careers in WWE history..Cant wait2 induct u in the HOF #Edge”

Natalya: “My thoughts are with Edge, and thank you so much for the wonderful memories. You’re a real, true friend and ill never forget it.”

— Adam Copeland, Awesome Kong, Brie Bella, Edge, Jack Swagger and Mason Ryan, among other WWE terms, were trending tonight on Twitter.

WWE’s Official Statement On Edge’s Retirement: He’s Done

Here is WWE’s official announcement on Adam “Edge” Copeland being forced into retirement due to injuries:

Less than a week after his successful title defense against Alberto Del Rio at WrestleMania XXVII, World Heavyweight Champion Edge has been forced to retire from in-ring competition due to injury. The unexpected news brings to an end a storied WWE career spanning 13 years and consisting of 11 World Title reigns.

The Rated-R Superstar had been suffering numbness and uncontrollable trembling in his arms and hands. This is not the first time Edge has experienced these symptoms of nueropraxia. An MRI in Atlanta last Monday was sent to Dr. Joseph Maroon, a renowned neurosurgeon and professor of neurosurgery at The Pittsburgh School of Medicine. After careful examination of the MRI, it was determined that Edge would never be cleared to compete again, and thus, he is forced to retire.

In 2003, Edge underwent a two level spinal fusion of the discs between his C5, C6 and C7 vertebrae. After being cleared to compete, The Rated-R Superstar returned to the ring, resulting in stenosis of the spine, or a narrowing of the spinal column, above and below the fused discs. This narrowing resulted in less and less of the vital fluid needed to protect the spinal cord. Medical professionals cannot clear Edge to compete ever again in WWE since doing so could result in paralysis or even death.

This is what’s being said about Edge on Twitter:

Edge Announces That He’s Retiring From WWE

On Monday’s episode of WWE RAW, World Heavyweight champion Edge announced that he is retiring from the squared circle.

According to sources in WWE, Edge’s retirement announcement is 100% legitimate and not a television storyline.

Edge said that he recently had his neck checked out and the results were not good. This is also a legitimate issue and not a storyline.

From what we’re hearing – Edge was told he could go out in the ring and say whatever he wanted.

It was announced on RAW that Edge will forfeit the World Heavyweight title on Friday’ SmackDown. At this time – there’s no word on what will happen with the belt.

We’ll have a lot more on this story during the week, new details are coming in already. Stay tuned.

Awesome Kong Heading To FCW, Bail Enforcers Premiere Notes

— A vignette teasing the arrival of the wrestler formerly known as Awesome Kong aired during tonight’s episode of FCW Wrestling on the Bright House Sports Network in Florida.

The promo was brief and showcased her eyes.

It was reported late last year that she had signed a contract with WWE. The internationally renowned wrestler has not competed since that time.

Bail Enforcers, starring Trish Stratus, premiered yesterday at the Actionfest Film Festival in Asheville, North Carolina. Edge, as well as Tara of TNA Wrestling, were on hand for the festivities. Edge, who resides in Asheville, was trying to be low key and didn’t seem to want attention. Tara, however, seemed to enjoy the attention she received. The theater was about 40% full and consisted of fans of wrestling and action movies. According to an attendee, the storyline isn’t original and some of the acting is wooden, but the action is decent and Stratus presents herself well. The movie is not for children as the dialog is profane.

Following the premiere, Stratus participated in a Q&A session with the cast and director. She was asked if she garnered heat within WWE for participating in a movie not affiliated with the organization. Status said no, and that WWE had agreed to promote the film.

— All WWE employees are staying at the Hyatt Regency (located on 265 Peachtree Street NE) this weekend for WrestleMania XXVII. This is according to the official Twitter account of the 1,260 room hotel, which announced that WWE is staying there this week.

Edge Talks About Retirement, Life After Wrestling & More

WWE World heavyweight champion Edge was interviewed by the Charlotte Observer this week and shed some new light on how much longer he plans to be an active wrestler. Here are some highlights of what Edge said about:

TLC Matches From The Attitude Era: “I’m relieved I don’t have to do it as much. I still get called on to do it every once in a while. I had 19 ladder matches and most guys have never had one. It’s taken a toll. Now everyone understands I only have so many more of those in me.”

His First WrestleMania “The first one that I was on contract for I wasn’t (wrestling) on the show. I was trying to soak it in. For the guys, it’s a huge buildup. You’re really ramped up. It’s our Super Bowl. You worked your whole year to get on the show. That’s what I realized not being on it. The following year at WrestleMania 16, Christian and I teamed up and won the tag-team championship. We grew up together and always dreamed of doing it.”

When He’ll Retire: “Maybe a couple years. Five? It’s up to my body, which also depends on the kinds of matches…. I want to be able to function and walk and hike these hills.”

What He’ll Do After Wrestling: “I might do a sports talk show up in Canada. Maybe working behind the scenes of WWE. Beyond that, writing and illustrating children’s books would be fun.”

Edge Discusses His Many Title Reigns, Why He Doesn’t Tweet

The latest issue of WWE Magazine features an interview with Edge and the “Rated-R Superstar” is asked why anyone should care that he’s held the World Championship ten times (now eleven).

“I never expected to be able to say that I’m a 10-time World Champion. I was hoping to one day say I was a one-time World Champion,” he replied. “Growing up, that number was impossible to reach. It was a different time, place and climate then. Things have changed. It’s harder to recreate yourself and stay relevant. I guess I’ve changed enough to stay relevant, which is one of the hardest things to do. For me, anything past one title is pretty much gravy on top of mashed potatoes.”

He also explains why he has yet to join Twitter.

“I will never be on Twitter,” he said. “Here’s my thing: I really don’t want people to know what I’m doing. I’m off the grid by choice. It doesn’t mean I have anything against anybody. If I’m out and I see you, let’s have a conversation. Cool. But I’m not going to tell you where I am. I’m not the most technological guy in the world, nor will I ever be. I will be in the mountains growing a massive beard at some point and hiking with my dogs and thinking about climbing Mount Everest. This is all ties back into my attack on the Raw GM’s computer. There was real frustration there. I’m not a computer guy. I can appreciate what computers do, but all I need is e-mail.”

Finally, Edge discusses how he remains inventive after several years inside the squared circle.

He says, “One of the most difficult elements is figuring out how to do new things within our parameters. How can I stop Kane in a Last Man Standing Match? How can I defeat three other guys in a TLC bout? How can I win a match when my signature move has been “outlawed”? Those are problems that I really enjoy solving. I love creative solutions, and I don’t like to take the easiest path.”

Match Announced For SmackDown, Update On Orton vs. Punk

— No members of Nexus will be in CM Punk’s corner for his match against Randy Orton at WrestleMania XXVII. Just as Michael McGillicutty and David Otunga, “The Viper” punted Ryan in the skull following his victory tonight on Raw, which would indicate that he has been written off television for the time being. The Welsh grappler was stretchered out of the arena during the commercial break.

— Evan Bourne’s family as well as Randy Orton’s daughter and wife all sat ringside at tonight’s Raw taping in St. Louis, Missouri. Bourne, however, did not appear make a live appearance.

According to a reliable source, Chris Jericho is being strongly considered to be a part of the next season of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars show.

The cast of Season 12 will officially be announced February 28th, with the first shows airing in March.

If this report is accurate and Jericho does dance with the stars, he would likely be unable to return to WWE until the summer at the earliest.

– Joey Styles noted on Twitter that Edge is now the first WWE champion in five years to successfully defend his title in the Elimination Chamber match.

– Christian, who returned to WWE at Elimination Chamber, wrote the following on Twitter after the pay-per-view:

“So Oakland was fun!!… I was in the area so I decided 2 stop in & say hello.”

Two Top Title Matches Set for WrestleMania XXVII

John Cena prevailed over Randy Orton, CM Punk, John Morrison, R-Truth and Sheamus in Raw’s Elimination Chamber Match tonight at Elimination Chamber, last pinning The Straight Edge Superstar. He is set for a WWE Championship Match at WrestleMania XXVII against The Miz, who retained his title against Jerry Lawler.

Earlier in the show, Edge retained the World Heavyweight Championship in the SmackDown Elimination Chamber Match, outlasting Big Show, Rey Mysterio, Kane, Wade Barrett and Drew McIntyre. As per the match stipulation, Edge would be stripped of the championship if he used his Spear finisher. Edge speared Dolph twice in the closing moments of the match – leading WWE’s website and others to speculate whether Edge has rightful  ownership of his title.

Dolph Ziggler is speaking out about the situation, claiming Edge did in fact violate the match stipulation and must forfeit his title. Ziggler wrote on Twitter:

“I may not “possess” the title tonight, but make no mistake about it, I AM THE REAL WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION! Rules are Rules…. ;)”

Edge Thinking About Life After Wrestling, WWE All Stars App

— WWE World Heavyweight Champion Edge said last week in an interview with PostCity.com that he’s beginning to think about life after wrestling.

“Honestly, now I’m starting to think of things I want to do after. I want to train and make an attempt at Everest. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to do it, but I think it would be cool to give it a shot. I still love it, it’s the greatest gig in the world for me, but I know my body can’t keep up with what my mind is telling me.”

He hinted at Saturday’s SmackDown live event in Toronto, Ontario that his wrestling career was coming to the end, announcing to the audience, “I might only have a couple more of these visits left in me, and I want to end my career in Toronto. Maybe if Mania is here.”

Could a deal be done and all the pieces be put in place before WM27? Is Sting even remotely interested in re-entering the squared circle on any level? I don’t know the answers to these questions nor, would I suggest, does anyone but Sting himself.”

WM27 News: Edge’s Opponent, Christian Update, Ticket Sales

– SmackDown rising star Alberto Del Rio has been discussed as World Heavyweight champion Edge’s likely opponent at WrestleMania 27 on 4/3.  WWE is firmly behind Del Rio and company officials are very satisfied with how he’s handling his current push.

Former Intercontinental champion Dolph Ziggler, Edge’s Royal Rumble opponent, has also been discussed as a possible opponent for WrestleMania.

– The latest on Christian is that he probably will not be healthy in time to work a match at WrestleMania. He suffered a torn pectoral muscle back in late September, had surgery to repair the tear and has been rehabbing ever since. Initial reports stated he’d be out of action for approximately 6 months (until late March).

– WWE Hall of Famers Bobby Heenan and Harley Race have been invited to WrestleMania 27. Jim Ross recently mentioned that Race was confirmed to be attending the event.

– It’s interesting to note that WWE has not yet mentioned how many tickets have been sold for WrestleMania 27. In previous years, they have touted early strong ticket sales, which doesn’t seem like a great sign.
