Edge Confirms He Had Talks With ‘Another Company’ Prior To WWE Return

The WWE Network released the WWE 24: Edge – The Second Mountain episode on Sunday that looked at the journey of Edge returning to in-ring action.

During the documentary, Edge looked back on his road to competition after retiring from a career-ending neck injury. This is where he confirmed that another promotion had reached out and showed interest in signing him.

If you recall, last October, it was reported that Edge used AEW as leverage while negotiating with WWE for a new deal, which was reached. Edge talked about after he hit a spear to Elias at SummerSlam, it prompted “another company” to offer him a contract.

“Summerslam happens, and then from there another company within the industry contacted me,” Edge said. “They said they were interested and wanted to know if I could wrestle and at this point, I didn’t know if I could. So before I did anything, I decided I needed to go find out.”

Edge would discuss how he had discussions with WWE after this segment but he wanted to talk with Vince McMahon about the deal in person because Vince McMahon did right by him in his career. He praised McMahon for giving him his chance and trusted him to pull things off and be a pillar for his shows.

Edge talked about the ongoing discussions he had with McMahon and why he wanted to come back with WWE rather than any other company.

“So, I went and sat down with him and I told him everything. It wasn’t like trying to get a bidding war going or anything, WWE didn’t even know whether this was possible, I didn’t know if it was possible. He said ‘Well, it needs to happen here. Let’s get you out to our doctors, you can take your impact testing and go through all of the testing.”

Edge is slated to take on Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing Match at WrestleMania 36.

Edge Wants To Make Sure His WrestleMania Match Is “Tough To Follow”

Edge Releases Statement On WrestleMania 36

Tonight on the second night of WrestleMania 36, Edge has his first single’s match since he defeated Alberto Del Rio for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 27. He’ll take on Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match.

Edge released a statement on the unique nature of this year’s WrestleMania recently through his social media channels.

“Strange days. We’re all coping with the issues of the world in different ways but we’re all in this together,” Edge began his statement. “In coping, I know personally I need outlets. Some forums of fun. Books. Movies. Music. For some wrestling can be that. It was always that for me growing up. Today is the first of two days of WrestleMania. For the first time ever. Whether you agree or disagree. The could haves or should haves, we’re here. It’s done. Speaking as a performer who didn’t have this for 9 years, I realize what a privilege it is to do this for a living and WrestleMania is the pinnacle of that. Is it the same without a crowd? No. You help make it. We miss you.”

Edge then continued to talk about his mindset going into his match with Orton.

“But my mindset while performing was thinking of all of you at home, watching it, hopefully enjoying it. And, maybe wishful thinking, just for a few hours this weekend, you get lost in what we love to do. Perform for you. To forget and just try to have fun. Cheer. Boo. Laugh. Cry. Lastly I want to thank everyone, the WHOLE crew, everyone behind the scenes who helped bring this beast to life while trying to remain safe and responsible.
Happy WrestleMania everyone.”

WWE 24: Edge: The Second Mountain To Premiere After WrestleMania

A new WWE Network special looking at Edge’s return to the ring will premiere this weekend.

WWE 24: Edge: The Second Mountain will air Sunday night, April 5th immediately following the conclusion of WrestleMania 36 (Night 2).

The documentary will apparently give the WWE Universe an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Edge’s triumphant return to in-ring action. “The Rated R Superstar” made a comeback to WWE at January’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view. He was the 21st entrant in the 30-man Royal Rumble matchup. The matchup was eventually won by Drew McIntyre.

Edge’s Retirement, WrestleMania Feud

Edge was unfortunately forced to retire back in 2011. He had been diagnosed with cervical spinal stenosis. This led him to retire from pro wrestling and pursue a new career in acting.

Following his return at Royal Rumble, Edge has been involved in a personal grudge match with his former Rated RKO teammate, Randy Orton. The two will clash at this weekend’s WrestleMania 36 weekender in a Last Man Standing matchup.

The show, originally intended to take place on April 5 from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, will now take place on April 4 and 5. It has been pre-recorded from multiple locations out of concern of the current coronavirus pandemic.

Booker T Talks Potential ‘Theatrics’ of Edge vs Randy Orton

WWE Hall of Famer and co-host of the Hall of Fame podcast Booker T recently commented on the upcoming WrestleMania 36 bout between Edge and Randy Orton. With the unique nature of this year’s ‘Mania, Booker T believes that a ‘theatrical’ element to the match will be able to push it beyond the confines of standard wrestling fare.

Booker T on Edge vs Randy Orton

“This is a moment man, this is a moment that these guys can actually be able to go out here and really tap into their creativeness” Booker T began. “Looking at guys like Edge, he’s perfect for this moment, because he’s a guy who not only loves the wrestling business; but as soon as he got out to the wrestling business he went right into acting.”

“I like the analogy, it [WWE] is Rocky, it is Shakespeare, it is Romeo and Juliet.”

Booker T

Booker T would elaborate further, discussing Triple H’s recent comments that WWE is more “like the Rocky movie and not boxing.” “I like the analogy, it [WWE] is Rocky, it is Shakespeare, it is Romeo and Juliet. It seemed like these guys have said ‘hey man, we’re gonna be in this [coronavirus] state for a while, why don’t you let us be creative? You don’t write anything for us. and just let us go out here and talk about it. Let us feel it?’ It actually looks that way to be. When I watched The Undertaker go out and cut a promo? That was as real as I’ve ever seen The Undertaker.”

Final Hype for Edge vs Orton

Booker T would finish by discussing the history between Edge and Orton. “And now [for Randy] to go out and dance with Edge? A guy who he’s got history with? These guys know each other very very well and respect each other, a whole lot. And now they’re gonna get a chance to go out and you know create magic for the world, in front of an empty arena. Mano a mano and now it’s going to be, you know, a fight that we got to create like we never have before, just because of the circumstances that we’re in. We’re really gonna get a chance to see Shakespeare.”

Edge vs Randy Orton will be taking place this weekend at WrestleMania 36. The show will be available to purchase on PPV, FITE TV as well as the WWE Network.

Edge Wants To Make Sure His WrestleMania Match Is “Tough To Follow”

Edge has acknowledged Drew McIntyre’s recent comments where he stated Edge’s Last Man Standing matchup should headline a night of WrestleMania 36. Talking with USA Today, Edge opened up about his intentions for the match, sharing that he wants to make sure it’s difficult to follow.

“My mindset is our match is going to be tough to follow. It really is, and that’s what my job is, is to make it tough to follow,” Edge explained. “So if you want to put it on in the middle, if you want to put it on in the beginning, good luck following it.”

Edge explained that their match placement doesn’t bother him. Instead, it’s all about delivering the best story possible, especially as it’s his first singles match in 9 years. “The Rated R Superstar” was sadly forced to retire back in 2011 before his return at this January’s Royal Rumble event.

“If it’s on last, great, but that doesn’t change my mindset going into it. My mindset is to continue to tell this story, and for my first singles match back in nine years, I want to start this second chapter since coming back at the Royal Rumble, I want to keep that momentum going. I want to show people I’ve taken this craft to a different level than I did it before.”

Edge will compete against Randy Orton this weekend at WrestleMania 36. The “Show of Shows” will air on the WWE Network on April 4 and April 5.

Edge Discusses WrestleMania Relocating To The WWE Performance Center

WWE Hall of Famer Edge will be facing off against Randy Orton during this weekend’s WrestleMania event. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, WrestleMania 36 was set to take place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. Because of the outbreak, however, WWE was forced to relocate the show. The pre-recorded event now takes place from multiple places, including the WWE Performance Center. In an interview with USA Today, Edge opened up about the venue change and whether it has affected his approach to the match.

“I think we’re at a time where… everything’s so in flux and everything’s so strange right now. I guess if I’m looking at it purely from a performance aspect, you go ‘ahh.’ Because you love being able to be in front of an audience, feed of that, the adrenaline of that and all those things.”

Edge On Rolling With The Current “Normal”

Edge explained how he has been adjusting to this new “normal.” In doing so, he has embraced the challenges it brings and adapted as best he could to deliver in the run-up to his match.

“Then I started looking at ‘OK, well this is where we are. This is normal for now. So what are the challenges here, and how can you adapt and still make a compelling story?'” Edge explained. “I get off on the challenging aspect of it, and that’s how I started looking at it. So if I’m cutting a promo, well now I’m doing theater. I’m doing a monologue to a camera. And that was fun! That lets me explore my acting chops. So that’s how I tried to recalibrate my brain with it.”

Edge clashes with his formed Rated RKO tag team partner Randy Orton this weekend. The two will compete in a Last Man Standing match.

Bully Ray: “Undertaker’s Promo Was Good, Edge’s Promo Was Great”

WWE Hall of Famer and co-host of Busted Open Radio Bully Ray recently discussed the events of the Monday Night RAW. This week’s episode was once again filmed with no live audience, and a lot of the promo work was shot ‘backstage.’

Bully would compare the work between the ‘big 4’ promos on the show; notably Kevin Owens, Edge, Undertaker and Paul Heyman.

Bully Ray on Edge and Undertaker

“‘Takers promo was good, Edge’s promo was great,” Bully Ray began. “They were all [the big four], you know, all of them did a phenomenal job. But there was a reason why Edge’s was better. But man, all of these people talking to us. Edge made me want to put my hands in my pocket and pull out money to plop down on a pay per view.”

This will of course be Edge’s first singles match back in a WWE ring since 2011, following his return from a neck injury that kept him out of action. It was originally believed that Edge would never be able to return, but seemingly he has the fire and passion to cut some of the best promo work of his career over the past few months.

Selling Fans on a PPV

“And whenever I’m teaching students at the Team 3d Academy, and I’m teaching them about the art of the promo? I say I tell them you have one job at the end of this promo” Bully Ray elaborated.

“That one job is that when you’re done talking, no matter what you say, and no matter how long you say it for. Whether that’s one second, one minute, or five minutes. The idea is to make the fan want to put their hands in their pocket and plunk down 20 bucks for a T shirt. Plunk down 50 bucks for a pay per view, plunk down whatever for a ticket. And those four promos last night from ‘Taker, Edge. Owens and Paul? They all made me want to do it.”

“The only part I don’t think I liked? Is when ‘Taker said: ‘you mentioned her.'”

– Bully Ray

Bully Ray would then go into why he felt Edge’s promo was better, citing the fact that Undertaker’s may have felt a little bit more ‘scripted’ in execution. “Taker had me hook line and sinker” Bully began. “The only part I don’t think I liked? Is when ‘Taker said: ‘you mentioned her.’ [He] was telling AJ ‘you mentioned her,’ I knew that he was talking about his wife Michelle. But then when he had to go ahead and say her whole name Michelle McCool? I went, ‘Ah, don’t tell me her whole name I know her whole name already!’ that felt a little forced to me.”

Styles Clash vs Faithbreaker

Ray would then move on to the fact that Undertaker was trying to bring the Styles Clash vs Faithbreaker conversation into the story. With Michelle McCool seemingly ‘borrowing’ AJ’s move in the early 2010’s.

“Bringing up the name of the finish that Michelle McCool used, which is basically the styles clash, I guess she had given another name? That felt a little bit forced.”

“I personally never saw Michelle McCool use the finish. I know they showed me maybe footage once of it. I’m really not associating Michelle McCool with the Styles Clash, so it almost came across to me like Undertaker was really pushing his wife. To get over her. That part right there felt like a little bit of a round peg in a square hole. So that’s why I said his stuff was good because I loved everything that he did. And I especially loved his holy trinity line.”

The overwhelming feeling from both Bully Ray and co-host Dave LaGreca was that the promos from Monday Night RAW were more than enough to convince people to purchase WrestleMania 36 this weekend. For the first time ever the event is being held over two nights, and will now be available to purchase on FITE TV.

Edge Shares His Plans For WWE Post-WrestleMania 36

Returning WWE Hall of Famer Edge has discussed his in-ring plans following this weekend’s WrestleMania event. During an interview with ESPN, Edge shared how he’s not physically capable of committing to a full-time WWE schedule. He noted how he’s put in his time and is ready to help teach the next generation of Superstars.

“Physically, I wouldn’t be able to keep up with that grind that all the young ‘uns are doing right now. I put in my 15 years of that, so now I can come back, and honestly, more than anything, I just want to help teach. And the best way for me to teach is to be in there in the ring with you and show you how to listen.”

Edge On Owning His Story

Edge divulged how, when it comes time for him to retire on his own terms, he wants the WWE Universe to think his current run was even better than his last tenure in the ring.

“When it is time to walk away, I want people to say, ‘Oh, my God, I think he was better this time.’ That’s the challenge. This story has never been written before. No one has ever taken nine years off. No one has ever come back from a triple-fusion. It’s a blank canvas, and the story I want to try and tell, I just want it to be compelling. I want it to be fun for everybody.”

Edge returned earlier this year at January’s Royal Rumble event. It has been reported that he signed a three-year deal that requires him to wrestle three times a year, though he is committed to five matches. He may also make approximately 25 appearances per year, in a deal similar to current WWE Champion, Brock Lesnar.

Edge Talks In-Ring Training With The Revival For Return, Bike Accident Leading To Comeback

WWE Hall of Famer Edge did a recent interview with ESPN to promote WrestleMania 36 where he spoke about a wide range of topics.

During the interview, he discussed making his return to in-ring action. It turns out that the moment that it dawned on him that he could make a return was when he filmed an episode of Sheamus’ workout series on YouTube.

He was on a mountain bike and was going down a hill in order to hit a jump. He wiped out at high speeds and had cuts but rolled up on his feet. He went to see a family doctor and spine specialist to make sure that his neck was fine considering that spinal stenosis is what led to his pro wrestling retirement in 2011.

Despite the incident, he felt fine. After getting word from the doctors that his neck wasn’t further injured, it started to make him think that he could wrestle again.

After making an appointment in Birmingham, Alabama with Dr. James Andrews’ team and Dr. Andrew Cordover, “that’s when we started to realize this could actually happen.”

He got the green light from WWE’s medical team in order to be medically cleared. That’s when he contacted WWE and started training with his wife, WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix, and The Revival’s Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder.

“I talked to [Triple H], and I said, ‘I can’t go to a ring anywhere because people will start seeing me. I can’t go to the PC.’ So they sent me a ring,” Edge said. “I got a warehouse space, and I set up a ring and basically had my own personal ‘Field of Dreams,’ and I just got in there and got to work.

Thankfully, I’m married to another Hall of Famer who can pick up and body slam me, which you can’t say for a lot of wives. The Revival, they both live in Asheville, so they’d come, and they’d get in there with me, and they’d put me through my paces.”

Edge noted how he was keeping up with them and wasn’t tired or sore. That’s when he knew that a return to action was going to happen and at a level that he wanted.

He made it known that he didn’t want to come back and be anything less than what he was but knew he had to work differently as he would have different limitations.

Edge Names Which NXT Superstar He Wants To Wrestle, Praises Several NXT Talent

Returning WWE Hall of Famer Edge has shared which NXT Superstar he would love to clash with. During an interview with Sportskeeda, Edge praised several of black-and-gold brand talents. It was Keith Lee, however, that he would want to compete against.

“There are so many talents, you can seriously point to everyone on the roster,” Edge said. “Obviously (Tommaso) Ciampa and I have a very close relationship, we’re both ‘neck’ guys for a lack of a better term. So he’s picking his brain a lot and I love it because he cares a lot and he’ll try the ideas too. I love [Johnny] Gargano.”

Edge On Which Superstars Set An NXT Template

Edge shared how he believes Balor is the guy who is “dialed in” right now. He argued that Balor returning to NXT has allowed him to discover what he’s supposed to do. He added how Balor and Gargano “set the template” for what an NXT matchup should be.

Edge also praised Velveteen Dream. He labelled him a “raw, completely natural character.”

He stated how Dream has just tapped into his character and makes for an entertaining watch. Edge then turned his attention to current NXT Champion Adam Cole and Keith Lee.

“You got your workhorses like Adam Cole who’s just out there week-in, week-out, night after night in the grind and you just got to tip your hat to that guy,” Edge said. “Keith Lee is so impressive – I’d love to be able to get in the ring with that guy and just show him exactly what he is and how he can be.”

Edge is set to face off against Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match at WrestleMania 36. The “Show of Shows” takes place on April 4 and April 5.

Edge Shares The Only Time He’s Felt Nervous In WWE

WWE Hall of Famer Edge has revealed the only time he has been nervous during his pro wrestling career. Opening up to Digital Spy, Edge pointed to his recent return to the ring at this year’s Royal Rumble matchup where he was a surprise entrant.

“At the Royal Rumble, that was the first time I ever felt nerves,” Edge confessed. “Once the music hit, then it was just… you can’t explain it. You can’t do it justice.”

He continued, “There is no way to explain this melting pot of things that all came together, after nine years being off and being forced to retire. It is a story that has never happened before and to be in the center of that is just overwhelming, it really is. I don’t know if I have fully wrapped my mind around the whole thing.”

Edge was sadly forced to retire from in-ring action 2011 due to severe neck issues. Having made his triumphant return to WWE, however, he is now scheduled for a matchup at WrestleMania 36. Edge will face off against Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing matchup.

WrestleMania 36 takes place on April 4 and April 5 from multiple locations including an empty WWE Performance Center. The “Show of Shows” will be pre-recorded in a controlled environment due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Edge Defends WWE’s Decision To Deliver WrestleMania 36

Returning WWE Superstar Edge has defended WWE’s decision to deliver WrestleMania 36 amidst the current coronavirus pandemic. Speaking with Digital Spy, Edge detailed how entertainment is now more important than ever to help distract people from their fears and concerns. He added how it’s a “privilege” as much as it is a responsibility to perform and help entertain during such a turbulent time.

Edge Considers WrestleMania A Privilege, An Honor, And A Responsibility

“This year more than any year we are all in the midst of something we have never experienced before, the world really needs outlets,” Edge said. “Whether that is books, whether that is movies, whatever it is, just to be able to try and forget and laugh and have fun and remember what it is to be human. That’s why we’re doing this. There’s one reason. That’s the reason.”

Edge continued, “If we can do that and if people watch and can have fun for a few hours then our mission is accomplished. It’s a privilege, it’s an honor, it’s also a responsibility – and it’s one that I know all of us don’t take lightly. There’s a reason the show is going on. Those are the reasons why.”

He noted how WWE will “try and be as responsible and as safe as we can” in delivering WrestleMania 36. Edge is set to face off against his former-Rated RKO tag team partner Randy Orton. The two will clash in a Last Man Standing match.

The “Show of Shows” now takes place on April 4 and April 5. It will take place from multiple locations and will be pre-recorded due to the current coronavirus pandemic.

Edge vs. Randy Orton Confirmed For WrestleMania 36

After several weeks of speculation, WWE has indeed confirmed Edge vs. Randy Orton for WrestleMania 36. The company did so on Monday’s episode of RAW as Orton accepted Edge’s challenge to a match at the biggest event of the year.

This came after Edge addressed Orton’s attack on him and his wife on RAW last week. Edge’s challenge to the former fellow WWE Champion was a Last Man Standing Match.

A few weeks ago on RAW saw Orton attack Edge’s wife and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix in the final segment of the show.

This match was expected as Edge has been off TV for several weeks after receiving the beatdown by Randy Orton after making his return to the ring in the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match.

WWE presents the WrestleMania 36 pay-per-view event as a two-night event on Saturday, April 4 and Sunday, April 5 in Orlando, Florida.

Edge Discusses Why He’s Excited To Wrestle Randy Orton At WrestleMania 36

WWE Hall of Famer Edge talked about his match with Randy Orton at Wrestlemania 36 while doing a recent interview with Gorilla Position.

It should be noted that WWE hasn’t officially announced the match yet but Edge did just challenge him to a Last Man Standing Match on this past Monday’s episode of RAW on the USA Network. The match is all but confirmed.

In this interview, Edge brought up how the match will be taking place in an empty arena at the Performance Center. The reason for that is due to there being no fans in attendance as a concern of the coronavirus outbreak.

Edge talked about how the crazy part is that it’s never been done before at WrestleMania. Over the years, WrestleMania has always featured fans in attendance. He brought up Mick Foley vs. The Rock in 1999 where they had an empty arena match but that wasn’t at WrestleMania.

“Sure, it’s not ideal. We all get it, but we have to make do, and we have to figure out, we have to adapt. And that’s what this whole thing will be. I know I feel confident because I know in Randy, I don’t say this lightly, one of the best ever or possibility, and it’s all subjective, the best to ever do this. You get my brain and his natural ability on this thing, and I’m excited.”

He added that he’s excited about what they can do and what they can bring to the audience because all bets are off, there are no rules. He concluded by stating, “It’s an entirely blank canvas.”

WWE Confirms Edge’s Return To Monday Night RAW

As expected, WWE has confirmed the return date for Edge to RAW.

Last month it was revealed through promotional that the WWE Hall of Famer would make his return on the March 9th episode at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC.

On Friday, WWE officially announced the news. Edge has been off TV for several weeks after receiving the beatdown by Randy Orton after making his return to the ring in the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match.

On this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw in Brooklyn, NY at the Barclays Center on the USA Network, Orton attacked Edge’s wife and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix in the final segment of the show.

The belief is that this feud will lead to a match between them at WrestleMania 36. Edge will be addressing Orton’s attack on him and his wife on RAW.

The following is the promotional material listed for the show:

  • 2020 Royal Rumble Match Winner Drew McIntyre vs Randy Orton
  • RAW Tag Team Champions The Street Profits vs, Seth Rollins & Murphy w/The AOP
  • RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch and 2020 Royal Rumble Winner Charlotte Flair vs. WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions The Kabuki Warriors

Randy Orton vs Edge Match Will Reportedly Have Stipulation Added At WrestleMania

Randy Orton vs Edge Match Will Reportedly Have Stipulation Added At WrestleMania

Edge returned to WWE at Royal Rumble which was no one saw coming. After the Royal Rumble, Edge made his return after being nine years away from it.

But it was not all celebrations as Randy Orton brutally assaulted Edge on Raw a few weeks ago with a chair shot to the neck.

According to a report by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE is planning to have a match between Randy Orton and Edge at WrestleMania 35, and it will have a stipulation added to it.

Adding a stipulation to such an important match will make the match stand out more from the bunch of other matches on the WrestleMania card.

A traditional match would require Edge to take a lot of bumps, so maybe it’s WWE’s way of dealing with the situation by adding a stipulation that lets Edge work a longer match without risking his body too much.

Edge’s last match at WrestleMania XXVII was against Alberto Del Rio, where he successfully defended his World Heavyweight Championship.

At WrestleMania 36, Brock Lesnar will defend his WWE Championship against Drew McIntyre. The Universal Championship will also be on the line with new champ Goldberg defending it against Roman Reigns.

Charlotte Flair will try to take on the NXT Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley, while The Fiend will go one-on-one against John Cena. Becky Lynch will defend the Raw Women’s Championship against whoever wins the women’s Elimination Chamber. It could be any one of these women: Asuka, Shayna Baszler, Ruby Riott, Natalya, Liv Morgan, or Sarah Logan.

WrestleMania 36 will emanate from the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on April 5, 2020.

Edge’s Return To WWE RAW Revealed

After being off of WWE television for a month, the return date and location for Edge has been revealed.

The WWE Hall of Famer is being locally advertised to appear on the March 9th episode of RAW by Capital One Arena in Washington, DC, which is hosting the show.

It should be noted that this episode will be the night after the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event when the road to WrestleMania 36 starts to heat up.

After making his return to the ring in the 30-Man Royal Rumble Match, Edge has been off TV for several weeks after receiving the beatdown by Randy Orton. The belief is that this feud will lead to a match between them at WrestleMania 36.

The following is the promotional material listed for the show but keep in mind that these matches are likely dark and only shown to the fans in attendance:

Jerry Lawler Says That ‘Older’ Wrestlers Might Bring Back Lapsed Fans

WWE RAW commentator Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler recently discussed the ‘lapsed’ fanbase for the company that seemingly has taken an even bigger hit over the past decade plus. Lawler was referring to a tweet from F4W’s Bryan Alvarez, who mentioned that WCW and WWE pulled a combined 8 million viewers around 19 years ago; and WCW went out of business shortly after. WWE is now ‘lucky’ if they manage to get 2.5 million viewers to watch RAW on a Monday.

Although the change of landscape for television always plays a factor, Jerry Lawler believes that the way to bring back these ‘lapsed’ fans is to sprinkle some older more established starts into the mix.

“At one time there were 8 million people watching, watching wrestling on a Monday night,” Jerry Lawler began. “And now you’re lucky if you have two and a half million. I think a lot of those fans that are not watching right now are fans of guys like Edge. And of course The Rock, Stone Cold [Steve Austin], those guys. I just think…if you brought some of them back?”

Lawler then discussed how ‘internet fans’ seemingly do not like the veterans in these prominent positions. “Here’s the crazy thing. You know, you got these internet fans that sit around there and do nothing but pick and criticise every single thing that happens on the show. Then you got the writers that read all this stuff from your critical fans and they try to go and kind of book by [it]. Then you know they’re the ones that go ‘they’re keeping some young talent from being from having their day in the sunshine.’ Well, some of that old talent are the ones that might make the difference.”

“They might come back if on occasion you brought some of these people back.” – Jerry Lawler

Jerry Lawler elaborated further, saying “that 5 million fans that aren’t watching anymore, you know. Though those 5 million fans were fans of these guys that aren’t on TV anymore. They might come back if on occasion you brought some of these people back.”

Tommy Dreamer – “I Knew Edge Was Returning To WWE”

Co-host of Busted Open Radio Tommy Dreamer recently commented on the return of WWE Superstar Edge. The ‘Rated R Superstar’ made an incredible and unlikely comeback during the 30-man Rumble match to a huge reaction.

“You know Edge…listen, I’m friends with the guy I don’t think Edge is returning”

Edge and Dreamer are longtime friends, and Dreamer recently claimed that he didn’t believe that Edge would be returning to wrestling at all. “You know Edge…listen, I’m friends with the guy I don’t think Edge is returning” Dreamer said back in January. “He [Edge] is feeling good, he’s doing a lot of outside projects. If Edge did come back it would be an amazing amazing thing. It’s just I don’t know if he’d want to risk his health and overall well being.”

“I’m super duper close with Edge”

Dreamer has now confirmed that he DID in fact know that Edge would be returning to WWE. The ECW legend did explain himself during the Busted Open broadcast, saying “I will confess to a lot of fans. I’m super duper close with Edge. He had confided in me a long time ago that he was going back to WWE.”

Dreamer elaborated further, saying that “we kind of laid some foundation, kind of fantasy booking with each other. There’s a friendship. I love the guy and I would never betray that friendship, for whatever rumours, speculation, anything that comes out there. And also, I always open up Christmas presents on Christmas not on Christmas eve. And for when there was speculation going around, or all the social media buzz about it…why? I know we like to guess about it. Even spoilers, I cannot stand them. So, I’m never going to ruin [the outcome]. I wish Edge never told me, because I wanted to see [it first hand]. I wasn’t sure he was going to debut at the Rumble, but that was what was on the table.”

Edge

“I don’t feel it’s deceiving the fans”

Dreamer finished by discussing how he feels hiding information like this is not ‘deceiving’ the fans, due to the good intention. “I don’t feel it’s deceiving the fans because the end result is ‘wow I got to see something special.'” It is true that we got one hell of a moment when Edge returned last Sunday.

Details On Edge’s Contract Length & Matches Per Year

Edge returned to WWE at the Royal Rumble this weekend after having been gone since 2011. His early retirement was announced shortly after WrestleMania in 2011. According to a report from Talk Sport, Edge’s new deal with WWE is for 3 years and $3 million per year.

The report from Talk Sport would continue to state that the deal requires Edge to compete in 3 matches a year and make 25 appearances a year. Edge and Beth Phoenix were said to be quite happy with the deal.

When Was Edge Medically Cleared?

There is some mystery over when Edge received his medical clearance to resume his wrestling career. Edge delivered a spear to Elias on the SummerSlam Kickoff show in August which led many to speculate he may have been given the green light from doctors. He would continue to deny reports that he had been cleared in the months and weeks leading up to his return at the Rumble, however.

“It’s kind of funny to be honest,” Edge said to Live on 4 Legs. “All of these rumors that I’ve been to Pittsburgh and I’ve been cleared to wrestle and I’ve signed a new contract. I have no idea where any of it came from. The last time I was in Pittsburgh I had my wrist fused in 2013. I don’t know.”

Edge Returns To In-Ring Action At WWE Royal Rumble

Edge made a surprise appearance at the latest pay-per-view event for WWE Royal Rumble, by returning to in-ring action.

Edge competed in the Men’s Royal Rumble Match from the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. He entered at #21 and made it to the final three but was eliminated after nearly 25-minutes.

Edge Returns

Edge’s triumphant return to WWE had been speculated for months. It all started when Edge shocked many fans by making a surprise appearance on the pre-show for WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event.

He did so by interrupting a segment with Elias, who was getting local heat by mocking fans in attendance and the city of Toronto. This led to Edge coming out and hitting a spear to Elias.

That SummerSlam segment was significant as it marked the first time that Edge got physical for the first time since his retirement in 2011. Months later, it was reported that the former World Champion was then spotted in Pittsburgh where WWE’s medical director, Dr. Joseph Maroon is headquartered.

Edge had previously denied the rumors suggesting that he is preparing for his comeback.

Edge is one of the most decorated professional wrestlers of all-time due to him winning 31 championships in WWE during his career. The former WWE Champion was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by Christian in 2012.

Edge Continues To Deny Speculation Of His In-Ring Return

WWE Hall of Famer Edge has discussed speculation over him making a return to in-ring action.

He did so when he was asked about those return rumors during an interview with Live on 4 Legs.

“It’s kind of funny to be honest. All of these rumors that I’ve been to Pittsburgh and I’ve been cleared to wrestle and I’ve signed a new contract. I have no idea where any of it came from. The last time I was in Pittsburgh I had my wrist fused in 2013. I don’t know.”

This return for the legendary pro wrestler has been speculated for months. It all started when Edge shocked fans by making a surprise appearance on the pre-show for WWE SummerSlam event and hitting a spear to Elias.

Tommy Dreamer – “I don’t think Edge is returning” To WWE

It was reported that the former World Champion was then spotted in Pittsburgh where WWE’s medical director, Dr. Joseph Maroon is headquartered. This made fans think he was there to be medically cleared.

In fact, there have been rumors of him possibly returning for the Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 36. According to Edge, this can’t be further than the truth as he hasn’t signed a contract with WWE.

“I would go to Pittsburgh to see Pearl Jam for sure but I haven’t been there and I haven’t signed a contract. I think I would know. I’ll get this tsunami of comments saying, ‘You’re coming back! You signed a contract.’ I really haven’t.”

Paige & Others React To Triple H Joking About Her Being Promiscuous

WWE executive Triple H is getting some negative feedback to a joke he made about WWE Superstar Paige being promiscuous.

During a media interview to promote NXT Takeover: Blackpool II over the weekend, Triple H was asked about the in-ring futures of Edge and Paige. The Game first claimed that with the medical conditions, their return would partly depend on their own personal choice and the choice of WWE’s medical personnel.

Triple H first claimed that with the medical conditions, their return would partly depend on their own personal choice and the choice of WWE’s medical personnel. He then said that their family situations also come into account. In doing so, he dropped an interesting ‘joke’ about Paige’s personal life.

“More importantly than that [returning to the ring], though, I would like to see them live long healthy lives. You know, Edge has kids. Paige – maybe. She probably has some she doesn’t know of.”

The joke is better suited with a male as the target, since they’d be more likely to have children they don’t know about, but Paige got the message loud and clear. The former WWE Divas Champion says it’s difficult to earn the respect of the public when her own boss mocks her publicly.

Renee Young and Nikki Bella expressed their support for Paige.

More From Triple H

Elsewhere in the interview, Triple H brought in the example of Daniel Bryan. He said that they allow people to go back when their medical experts believe that they have done what it requires to rehab their situation and they are safe to go back to the ring.

Edge has been subject to many rumors since his SummerSlam spot and recent reports indicate that he could be working towards a possible comeback.

On the other hand, not much has been said about Paige’s situation but she sparked rumors about her future when she recently claimed that she has a ‘whole lot of career left’ in her.

Tommy Dreamer – “I don’t think Edge is returning” To WWE

ECW Legend and co-host of Busted Open Radio Tommy Dreamer made some comments recently regarding WWE Hall of Famer Edge. There has been speculation that the ‘Rated-R Superstar’ might be returning to WWE at some point at 2020. During the most recent episode of Busted Open, Dreamer talked about his friend Edge and how he doesn’t believe that he is returning. Tommy Dreamer specifically talked about what would happen if Edge returned in the Royal Rumble match in the number 30 spot.

“I think the people would explode” Tommy Dreamer began, when discussing the reaction a returning Edge might get. Tommy’s co-host Dave LeGreca posed the idea of Edge not only returning but being the one to eliminate Brock Lesnar (who is entering Number 1) and win the bout. “Then you’d have all your naysayers saying Edge JUST did that, now he’s going to the main event [of WrestleMania].” Dreamer replied. “You know Edge…listen, I’m friends with the guy I don’t think Edge is returning. He is feeling good, he’s doing a lot of outside projects. If Edge did come back it would be an amazing amazing thing. It’s just I don’t know if he’d want to risk his health and overall well being. “

“now he’s in the main event right away” – Tommy Dreamer

Dreamer finished by saying “again the naysayers would claim ‘he came in at thirty. [he] Eliminated Brock, now he’s in the main event right away. It’s the ‘Yay’ and I’m saying five seconds later everyone [would be] hating it. This is supposed to be your babyface going for the title.”

Edge denies the reports

Edge himself recently refuted the reports that he was close to a WWE return. The former WWE Champion has appeared to be making moves that could point to an in-ring return at some point. Edge was spotted in Pittsburgh back in October, where the head of WWE’s medical department Dr. Joseph Maroon is headquartered. Although back in December Edge did take to Twitter to write “Still not and still not. Period.” The tweet alone did not make a lot of sense at the time. Pairing it with the renewed talk of his in-ring return and speculation over a possible Royal Rumble appearance makes it fairly clear that he is denying the reports about his status.

Edge Continues To Deny Reports Of His Return

Former WWE star Edge had previously denied the rumors suggesting that he is preparing for his comeback and he once again, has done the same.

The Rated R Superstar recently took on his Twitter and made a seemingly out of context tweet which reads: “Still not and still not. Period.”:

This tweet alone does not make a lot of sense but pairing it with the renewed talk of his in-ring return and speculation over a possible Royal Rumble appearance makes it clear that he is denying the reports about his status.

Speculation Over Edge Possibly Returning At Royal Rumble

Edge himself started rumors about his status with WWE when he appeared at the SummerSlam PPV in August earlier this year and got physical for the first time since his retirement in 2011, by delivering a spear to Elias.

The speculation over his status then quickly spanned into reports of him signing a new contract with WWE after announcing his retirement from the podcasting world.

The former World Champion was then spotted in Pittsburgh where WWE’s medical director, Dr. Joseph Maroon is headquartered, which has only fuelled the rumors and made many wonder if the company could be aiming for his return at the upcoming Royal Rumble PPV.

While Edge has come out and denied the reports, we have seen stars such as John Morrison and CM Punk trying to deceive the fans about their status in recent times.

So this clarification from the retired wrestler is not expected to affect the WWE Universe’s opinion on the matter and we will have to wait for the Royal Rumble PPV to figure out whether or not he is actually planning a comeback.
