There is a lot of concern backstage in TNA about how the company is being run and whether they will be able to secure a new television deal with Spike TV, a factor widely viewed as essential to their survival. A recent visit by Janice Carter and an attorney from Panda Energy to TNA headquarters in Nashville caught everybody surprise, adding more fuel to the speculation that the circumstances are growing dire. Here’s an overview of the current issues:
– TNA’s current television contract with Spike TV expires in October and there have been no indications that a new deal will be made. The last time TNA had a TV deal with Spike expiring in October, the company had already re-signed by this time (late April). TNA is running 3 expensive shows in New York City’s Manhattan Center as a way to impressive Spike TV officials with the rabid New York Crowd, but many are questioning whether this is a good use of their limited resources.
– TNA President Dixie Carter is getting a lot of heat about the overall direction of the company. During a recent meeting in Nashville, TNA’s lack of presence in New Orleans during WrestleMania XXX weekend was a major topic she had to defend.
– Talent is upset with TNA’s creative team, with the general feeling being that there has been a breakdown in communication. Additionally, a lot of people feel that “Big” John Gaburick is in way over his head and does not have sufficient experience to be handling creative.
– As for Eric Young’s title win, very few people knew about the decision in advance. TNA denies that it was a rip off of Daniel Bryan winning the WWE World Heavyweight championship and that they simply wanted to surprise fans on the last live episode of Impact before taping several weeks of programming.
(Credit to PWInsider.com for some of the information used in this report)
– Apparently many in WWE were said to be “incredibly amused” when TNA put their World Heavyweight Championship on Eric Young as somewhat of a knock-off of Daniel Bryan winning his title at WrestleMania XXX.
– As previously reported, WWE is planning on phasing out the use of the term “pay-per-view” for their big shows, instead referring to them as “special events.” Despite that fact, SummerSlam is still benig billed as a “pay-per-view,” so it’s likely that the “big four” shows will still be dubbed pay-per-views.
– The internal reaction to Eric Young winning the TNA World Heavyweight championship is mixed. While people are happy for him because he’s been with the company forever and is seen as a hard worker, others question if he is the person who should be “the face of TNA.”
– TNA announced that more contract renewals will be announced soon. As previously reported, former TNA World Heavyweight champion James Storm just signed a new deal with the company.
– Kurt Angle tweeted the the following over the weekend about unspecified ‘rumors’ –
Rumors. They haunt U and U can't do anything about them, except to prove them wrong. #RiseAboveIt

The following are results of the Impact Wrestling television taping for the Thursday, April 24th edition of the show.
– Magnus comes to the ring for a promo. He says he was never really beaten by Eric Young for the title, and says the biggest failure that fateful night was his help. He says good help is hard to find. He brings out Abyss. Magnus calls Abyss an idiot and says he now realizes why everyone abandoned him. Magnus fires Abyss. Abyss says he realizes now that he’s a monster and that he’s going to once again start destroying lives, starting with Magnus. Magnus says Abyss is no longer a contracted TNA wrestler. MVP comes out and confirms that fact. MVP says he will consider this Abyss’ TNA tryout, and that if he can defeat Magnus, he can regain his spot back in TNA.
– Bobby Lashley def. Kenny King via countout. Lashley dominated the majority of the match. As he was about to hit his finisher on King, King rolled out of the ring and simply walked off to the back. The referee counted him out.
– Madison Rayne comes to the ring for a promo. She calls out The Beautiful People. They come out and Madison attacks them. They recover, however, and get the upper hand. Brittany does a run-in to try and save Madison, but the numbers game is too much for them. The Beautiful People do their brown-bag skit on Madison. Gail Kim eventually comes out to make the save. She challenges The Beautiful People to a match later tonight.
– Kurt Angle def. Rockstar Spud. Angle dominated the match and finished off Spud via tapout with his ankle lock submission. Ethan Carter III comes out and attacks Angle after the match, but Willow ends up coming down to make the save.
– The Beautiful People def. Madison Rayne and Gail Kim in Knockouts tag-team action.
– Bobby Roode and James Storm def. Bully Ray and Gunner in tag-team action.
– MVP def. Austin Aries in the main event of the evening.
The following are highlights of a recent Ring Rust Radio interview with Eric Young:
On how it feels to be the TNA Champion: “It’s wild. Yesterday was the best professional day of my entire life. It almost doesn’t seem real. I haven’t had it that long, and I’m still trying to soak it in. Talking to you guys, talking to people from all over, and it’s a good place to be. A really good place.”
On the reaction he’s received to being the new champ: “Yeah, man. It’s been from all walks of life. Not just the wrestling community, but guys from other companies, guys that worked here before, guys that work here who weren’t here, Robert Flores from ESPN, Michelle Beadle from ESPN, and all kinds of people reached out to me to say they were proud and happy for me. That’s a good feeling. There is always going to be negativity and naysayers and that’s part of being in a creative field, but its been 90 percent positive. It’s amazing. It’s overwhelming, really.”
On what fans can expect now that he’s champion: “For me, it’s more of the same. It’s crazy to hear people say stuff like, “Eric Young is quite possibly the most entertaining wrestler in the world today.” There is nothing more important to me than that. Wrestling is about entertainment. Whether you’re entertaining people with physicality or comedy or verbiage or emotion or characterization or whatever it is, the name of the game is entertainment. It’s a television show and people are watching it because they want to be entertained. So to be held at that level and regarded in that way is the biggest compliment I could get. It’s not just the fans, it’s my peers and people I work with. It feels like the lifetime achievement award. It’s cool. I’m not going to win the Nobel Prize, but this as close as its going to get.”
On defending the title: “The old saying goes; you have a target on your back. That’s how it works in sports and that’s how it works in pro wrestling. Having that target on your back is a huge compliment too. Now everyone is looking to come after me. As crazy as that sounds, it sounds like fun. I want to create as many memories and amazing moments for myself and wrestling fans as I can. That’s what pro wrestling is to me. I don’t remember whole matches from 20 years ago, but I remember moments from matches. I remember where I was and who I was with and how it made me feel. I’m ready to do that as world heavyweight champion. That’s my No. 1 goal. It’s to have as many amazing matches and memories as I can possibly make while I have this belt.”
On whether or not his character will change now that he’s champion: “For the storylines I’ve been involved in, that’s what it called for. I’m never going to lose my sense of humor. I was a class clown when I was a kid, I’ve always been the funny guy and I’ve always liked making people laugh, and that’s not going to stop. It will just be a different brand, a different style, a different way of being funny. I’m funny on my show that airs on Animal Planet. I’m not silly on the show, I’m not goofy and all that other stuff; I’m just kinda me. That’s the version of Eric Young that you’re going to get. It’s important for me to be funny, and that’s what made me popular. That’s what got me over with the fans in the first place and I won’t lose that. As far as adding an edge, when you’re rolling around in tacks with the monster Abyss, it’s hard to crack jokes. There’s nothing really funny about that. But yeah, it’s a cool challenge for me because that’s what I have been for the last five to eight years, and this is a whole new world for me. I can do it. I know I can. I’ve always known that and I’m dying to show people.”
On comparisons of his title victory to Daniel Bryan’s: “I definitely see the comparisons. Like you said, we both have sweet beards, we both won two matches, were both world heavyweight champion and I don’t think either of us are prototypical champions. That’s what makes us special. Anytime someone wants to make a comparison between me and Daniel Bryan, go ahead and knock yourself out. He’s a super talented guy. I never met him personally, but I know lots of guys that know him and he’s a nice guy. I listened to his interview on Steve Austin’s podcast and he sounds like he’s a cool dude. Anytime anyone wants to compare me to him, they can go right ahead.”
The Thursday, April 10th edition of TNA Impact Wrestling on Spike TV scored a final cable rating of 1.02, up from last week’s 0.938 final draw.
This week’s Impact Wrestling, which featured Eric Young becoming the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion, averaged 1.415 million viewers, which was up quite a bit compared to the 1.119 million viewers who tuned in last week.
TNA issued the following press release today regarding Eric Young’s World Heavyweight Championship victory at last night’s Impact Wrestling:
TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP CHANGES HANDS
ERIC YOUNG WINS TNA WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP ON IMPACT WRESTLING
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 10, 2014) – In a surprising twist, professional wrestler, TNA Superstar, fantasy sports fanatic and Animal Planet star “Showtime” Eric Young (twitter: @ShowtimeEY) tonight became the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion, defeating reigning champion Magnus during an explosive episode of IMPACT WRESTLING. Airing weekly on Thursday at 9/8c on Spike TV and viewed by millions in more than 120 countries around the globe, IMPACT viewers were treated to an explosive episode with the return of President Dixie Carter after she lost control of wrestling operations more than a month ago and a 10-man gauntlet match for the #1 Contender’s spot resulting in Young’s win. Demanding that he face Magnus in the ring the same night, Young captured the TNA World Heavyweight Championship after delivering the piledriver to the reining champ.
This is the first time the remarkably athletic adrenaline junkie Young, who often goes by “EY,” has held the TNA World Heavyweight Championship belt. A hockey-loving native of Canada and current Nashville, Tenn. resident, Young, age 34, has been a stable of the TNA roster for more than a decade.
“This moment is 17 years in the making and a childhood dream realized,” said Young. “Professionally, it doesn’t get any better than becoming the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.”
Young began his professional wrestling training after graduating from high school and quickly made his mark. He joined TNA in 2004 and went on to become a multiple time Tag Team Champion. Young is also the first and only male to hold the TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship, winning with his now wife, ODB. Recently Young has been feuding with his former best friend, former lawyer turned Monster and Magnus business associate, Abyss.
A fan-favorite known for his antics, and charisma inside and outside of the squared circle, Young began hosting Animal Planet’s hit series “Off The Hook: Extreme Catches” in 2012 and is preparing his return to the channel with a new program premiering in early summer.
On Thursday’s live episode of Impact Wrestling, Eric Young defeated Magnus to become the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion.
Earlier in the night, Young won the Gauntlet match to earn a title match at the upcoming Sacrifice PPV on 4/27, but demanded the match that night. MVP granted him the match and the rest is history.
Here’s a post-match reaction from Young’s title win:
As previously reported, TNA veteran Kurt Angle had a backstage blow-up with “Big” John Gaburick during the company’s U.K. tour. Apparently Angle wasn’t the only star to have a heated exchange with the TNA executive.
According to a new PWInsider.com article, TNA star Eric Young had a verbal exchange with Gaburick during the U.K. tour as well. Gaburick apparently ran down Young backstage after his Monter’s Ball match with Abyss, which was taped for this week’s edition of Impact Wrestling.
The report claims Gaburick told Young that he took too long in selling an attack from Abyss and should have exited the ring quicker due to the fact that they had additional segments to tape.
As a result, Young, who is well liked and considered to be a performer who rarely speaks out, didn’t hold back this time. According to reports, Young vented his frustration over the situation and the matter was quickly resolved. Basically put, it wasn’t a major incident or anything like that.
As seen Thursday night on Impact Wrestling, Madison Rayne made her return to TNA Wrestling. Establishing herself as a babyface, the four-time TNA Women’s Knockout Champion saved ODB from an attack from Lei’D Tapa and her former partner in crime, the reigning TNA Women’s Knockout Champion Gail Kim. The 27-year-old is back on the company website’s official roster and has also been talent roster for January’s tour of Europe.
Those scheduled for the tour are Magnus, Rockstar Spud, Kurt Angle, Bobby Roode, Christopher Daniels, Kazarian, Ethan Carter III, Bully Ray, Mr. Anderson, James Storm, Gunner, Samoa Joe, Chris Sabin, Austin Aries, Eric Young, Joseph Park, Robbie E, Jessie Godderz, Zema Ion, Gail Kim, Lei’D Tapa, Velvet Sky, Madison Rayne, ODB and Sam Shaw.
Brooke, Knux and Manik have been pulled from the announced lineup. Other notable admissions include AJ Styles, Jeff Hardy, Sting, Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez.
The official YouTube account of TNA Wrestling has released two new “#IMPACT365” videos featuring Bad Influence and Velvet Sky.

Multiple TNA Impact Wrestling stars have taken to Twitter to comment on the “#August1Warning” mystery-man angle that TNA started on their official YouTube channel on Friday.
Below are some of the tweets.
Mickie James:Who’s behind #August1Warning? Kinda Creepy! http://youtu.be/hrFJKHhVQPE they really didn’t have 2 go thru all that 2 surprise me! #BirthdayMonth

The mystery man promises to reveal himself at the Thursday, August 1st edition of TNA Impact Wrestling on Spike TV, thus, “#August1Warning.”
– The TNA Knockouts Tag Team Championship has apparently been deactivated as the the official website of Impact Wrestling is no longer listing the championship on its roster page.
Last week on Impact Wrestling, Knockouts division executive Brooke Hogan stripped ODB and Eric Young of the title due to Young’s male gender. There was no further announcement made concerning the belts.
The championship was created in 2009 due to the roster depth of the Knockouts division at the time. Sarita and Taylor Wilde became the inaugural champions in September of that year, besting Madison Rayne and Velvet Sky in the finals of a four-team tournament. The final champions, ODB and Young, held the titles for a record 478 days.
– Madison Rayne “spills dirt” on Miss Tessmacher in this week’s “Knockout Blog” as she rants on the fellow former TNA Women’s Knockout Champion’s high-maintenance ways.
Rayne writes, “This week, you are going to get a little behind the scenes 411 on the one and only, the Knockout who is more high maintenance than anyone else on God’s green earth, Miss “ass-gusting” herself, Miss Tessmacher! I’m not quite sure where to even begin with this girl.
“The beauty of feuding with just about every Knockout in the locker room is that I’ve seen how they act on the road, I’ve seen the inside of their gear bags and this girl takes the cake when it comes to needy and finicky! For starters, everywhere she goes she packs a foam roller and a rolling pin?! The roller I can understand. We all get a little beat up from time to time and need a quick fix before the next match. But a rolling pin? I don’t even WANT TO KNOW! I also know that she wears the exact same under garments for every big match. I hope her pretty little brain can efficiently work a washer and dryer. Maybe she just buys stock in the same bra, socks and… never mind. Again, I don’t even WANT to know!
“One thing I do want to know though, is WHY I have caught her on more than one occasion warming up for a match by “booty popping” to Baby Got Back? Really? I need to sit some of these ladies down and give them a lesson on class and elegance! Not hyping themselves up to the lyrics “you can do side bends or sit ups, but please don’t lose that butt!” Thinking about all the things Tessmacher does that drives me insane is going to give me a wrinkle!”
Rayne also addresses Brooke Hogan, who she feels is making poor decisions as Knockouts division executive. To read her full column, click here.
– With Velvet Sky back in TNA, the feeling is that she probably saw that taking her act on the road and working independent shows & conventions was not as lucrative as she thought. Even when she left the company earlier this year, there was a push to keep her on board, so everybody is happy she’s back.
– Eric Young’s new deal with TNA was signed in the past week or so.
– During a recent interview when Spike TV announced that Bellator will be airing after Impact Wrestling on Thursdays Spike TV President Kevin Kay said that Impact is “on fire” due to strong booking and he expects Impact to be a very strong lead in for the MMA show once football season ends.
– Eric Young announced Thursday that he has re-signed with TNA Wrestling. “Just re-signed with Impact Wrestling,” Young wrote on his Twitter page. “Great day and when I come back I’ll be better and crazier than ever. That’s a promise.”
– TNA Wrestling aired this cryptic video during Thursday’s Impact Wrestling broadcast, with the following stated, “A reckoning is at hand. Their road to hell will be paved in their own blood. 1.3.13.”

– Jeff Hardy is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Inside Wrestling.
– Thursday on Impact Wrestling, Aces and 8s member Devon used distraction from a blonde woman to pin Samoa Joe and win the TNA Television Championship he had previously vacated.

TNA Wrestling released a quick message from Sky addressing her return immediately following her appearance.
