Extreme Rules Card Reportedly Finalised, News On Ticket Sales Of The Event

There has been speculation on WWE adding more matches to the Extreme Rules match card but it appears that this won’t be the case and the company will go with only the bouts which have been announced so far.

According to Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE Officials held a production meeting on Wednesday to finalize things about Sunday’s Extreme Rules PPV.

There have been rumors of the company adding Finn Balor vs. Shinsuke Nakamura and Kabuki Warriors vs. The IIconics match to the upcoming show.

However, the decision was made not to add any more matches to the card as even if they move one of the announced 10 matches to the pre-show, there will still be 9 matches left and some matches will feel rushed.

We noted before how Stomping Grounds turned out to be one of the poorest shows in the company’s history in terms of Live attendance and overall PPV buys compared to other shows.

While there is no news on how many tickets the company has sold for Sunday’s PPV from Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, the Observer notes that this will likely be the lowest drawing PPV for the city in recent memory.

Ticket sales are said to be better than the last WWE PPV and the crowd is expected to look fine on TV but it’s believed that the arena will not be sold out.

Just like Stomping Grounds, they started the 2-for-1 ticket promo for Extreme Rules this past week after the weak advance ticket sales and it will be interesting to see how many people they are able to draw through this offer.

Bayley’s Opponent At WWE Extreme Rules Announced

A new match has been announced for the upcoming WWE Extreme Rules PPV, which will be WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley defending the title against Alexa Bliss.

The match was set up on Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown Live as Nikki Cross faced Bayley in a non-title match. The situation was if Nikki won then she would guarantee that Bliss would face Bayley for a second time. As seen in the match, Cross got the job done and now this match is official for Extreme Rules.

This is a rematch as Bayley successfully retained the SmackDown Women’s Title over Bliss at the WWE Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event in Tacoma, WA at the Tacoma Dome.

Title Match Set WWE Extreme Rules

With the recent match announcements, the advertised card for the upcoming Extreme Rules pay-per-view event has changed.

On Tuesday, along with the updated lineup, the official Wells Fargo Center website is now advertising WWE Champion Kofi Kingston defending the title against Samoa Joe.  In an update, WWE has since announced the match.

Originally advertised for the show included Kingston defending against Kevin Owens and Dolph Ziggler in a triple threat match, Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon and Elias as well as AJ Styles vs. Drew McIntyre. The website updated the lineup for a second time that saw McIntyre serving as McMahon’s tag team partner against Reigns while Styles’ opponent is listed as TBA.

Now, Styles doesn’t have an opponent listed. Also, on Monday’s RAW, WWE officially announced Reigns & The Undertaker vs. McMahon & McIntyre as well as RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch & Universal Champion Seth Rollins vs. Lacey Evans & Baron Corbin in a Mixed Tag Team Winner Take All Match.

The Extreme Rules pay-per-view event takes place on Sunday, July 14th, 2019 in Philadelphia, PA.

WWE often takes full advantage of the “card subject to change” disclaimer. These matches indicate where WWE’s storyline plans are headed in the months ahead.

First Match Set For WWE Extreme Rules

The first match has been announced for the upcoming WWE Extreme Rules PPV.

During Monday’s episode of RAW in the opening segment, it was revealed that RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch & Universal Champion Seth Rollins vs. Lacey Evans & Baron Corbin in a Mixed Tag Team Winner Take All Match would take place at this show. This will be a blowoff match between all four stars.

This match was set up at the Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event where Rollins retained the title over Corbin with Lacey Evans being the special guest referee.

The finish of the match saw Evans attack Rollins which led to Becky Lynch making the save and Rollins getting a fair referee to get the pinfall victory. Earlier in the night, Lynch retained her RAW Women’s Title over Evans.

The first match between Rollins and Corbin took place at the WWE Super Showdown pay-per-view event in Jeddah.

Local Advertisement Reveals Changes To WWE Extreme Rules Card

WWE will hold this year’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view event at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA on July 14th.

Originally advertised for the show included Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon and Elias as well as AJ Styles vs. Drew McIntyre. Changes have been made to the card as it’s advertised locally that McIntyre will now serve as McMahon’s tag team partner against Reigns while Styles’ opponent is listed as TBA.

The company will be officially announcing matches after the Stomping Grounds PPV event. Here are the locally advertised matches for the event:

  • WWE Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Kevin Owens vs. Dolph Ziggler – Triple Threat Match
  • WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin – Tables Match
  • Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon and Drew McIntyre – 1-on-2 Handicap Match
  • AJ Styles vs. TBA

WWE often takes full advantage of the “card subject to change” disclaimer, so it’s possible they will go in a different direction with at least one of these matches. These matches indicate where WWE’s storyline plans are headed in the months ahead.

Starting last year, WWE made the decision to move the event from June to July. Before that, it was held in either late April or early May.

Big Gimmick Matches Advertised For Extreme Rules

The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA has recently updated its listing for the upcoming Extreme Rules PPV on July 14th and the arena is now advertising some very interesting matches for the upcoming show.

A total of four matches are being advertised for the event and probably the most interesting of them all is a tables match between the Universal Champion Seth Rollins and Baron Corbin for the title.

If this match is indeed what the company is planning than it will mean that AJ Styles will not only lose his upcoming Money In The Bank match against Rollins but he’ll move away from the title picture soon afterward.

The advertising also supports the theory as it lists Styles in a different singles match and the former WWE Champion is listed as the opponent of Drew McIntyre.

Former World Champion Roman Reigns is expected to participate in the show too and very convincingly, he is advertised to face both Shane McMahon and Elias in a two on one handicap match at the PPV.

The fourth and final match is a Triple Threat for the WWE Championship and it’s expected to see Kofi Kingston defend his title against both Randy Orton and Kevin Owens.

While no stipulation is being advertised for this bout so far, a triple threat will mean that the match will be free of disqualifications and we can expect to see some weapons being used in the fight.

Though this card has not been confirmed by WWE and we’ll have to watch this Sunday’s Money In The Bank PPV to get an idea if the company is indeed planning to go in the mentioned directions with the given feuds.

Seth Rollins vs. Baron Corbin Advertised For WWE Extreme Rules

WWE Extreme Rules takes place Sunday, July 14th from Philadelphia, PA.

The Wells Fargo Center website has updated its preview for the event to include three headline matches.

A lot can happen from now through mid-July, but it’s worth noting that WWE submitted the following matches to the venue to advertise for the show:

  • Universal Champion Seth Rollins vs Baron Corbin
  • Roman Reigns vs. Randy Orton
  • AJ Styles vs. Drew McIntyre

Of course, we know the old adage, “Card Subject to Change.” There can’t be too many fans excited about Baron Corbin in the Universal Championship picture, so let’s hope that comes into play for this show.

If you’re in the Philadelphia area and Baron Corbin main eventing a WWE pay-per-view interests you, visit WellsFargoCenterPhilly.com for ticket information.

WWE Extreme Rules 2019 Date & Location Announced

The date and location for this year’s WWE Extreme Rules have been confirmed.

The company will hold this show at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA on July 14th. Starting last year, WWE made the decision to move the event from June to July. Before that, it was held in either late April or early May.

Tickets start at just $20 and go on sale to the public on Friday, March 29 at 10am. Locally advertised for the event includes Roman Reigns vs. Baron Corbin and Seth Rollins vs. Drew McIntyre.

Up until this point, WWE has not released information regarding their 2019 pay-per-view schedule after WrestleMania 35. Aside from Extreme Rules, only Money in the Bank Summerslam in Toronto and Survivor Series in Chicago have been announced.

WWE’s next pay-per-view event is the biggest one of the year for the company, which is WrestleMania 35 that goes down on Sunday, April 7, 2019 in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium.

Update On Hulk Hogan’s Role Backstage at Extreme Rules

Wrestling legend is officially back in the fold with WWE. Word broke on Sunday afternoon that Hogan was reinstated into the WWE Hall Of Fame. It later came out that Hogan was backstage at Extreme Rules and addressed the WWE locker room about his past indiscretions and his return to the company after a 3-year hiatus.

According to a report by PWInsider, the entire WWE roster was told to be on hand for Extreme Rules for an important meeting. That meeting turned out to be Hogan’s apology.

For those wondering, Hogan left mid-way through the pay-per-view and at no time were there plans for him to appear on television.

We’ll keep you updated in regards to when Hogan could make his return to WWE TV.

Original Plan For Extreme Rules Main Event

Last night (Sun. July 15, 2018) WWE hosted their Extreme Rules pay-per-view (PPV) from the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

After a ton of speculation as to what match was going to main event the show, it wound up being the 30-minute Ironman match between Dolph Ziggler and Seth Rollins for the Intercontinental Championship. When it was all said and done, Ziggler retained his strap in Sudden Death Overtime.

Many people assumed that Roman Reigns vs. Bobby Lashley was going to main event the show. PWInsider reports that was actually WWE’s original plan. The last hour of the show would’ve featured AJ Styles vs. Rusev for the WWE Title as well as Nia Jax vs. Alexa Bliss for the RAW Women’s Title.

Ziggler vs. Rollins was initially scheduled to open up the show instead. Of course, those plans were completely reshuffled and Ziggler vs. Rollins went on last, and put on an amazing match.

What Happened After Extreme Rules, The Miz On Hulk Hogan’s Return

The Miz On Hulk Hogan’s Return

Hulk Hogan being reinstated into the WWE Hall Of Fame is probably the biggest news coming out of the wrestling world in the past few weeks or so.

However the Miz, who was taking part in the MLB celebrity softball game in Washington, DC was not aware of it, until Aaron Oster of the PressSlam podcast spoke to him.

After getting the news, The former Intercontinental Champion revealed that he was a fan of Hogan while growing up and his comments were posted by Aaron from his twitter account:

What Happened After Extreme Rules

For the surprise of many fans, The 30 Minute Iron Man Match between Seth Rollins and Dolph Ziggler ended up being the main event of Extreme Rules instead of the Roman Reigns vs Bobby Lashley bout.

The match where the Intercontinental Championship was on the line ended in a 4-4 Draw. After this, the Raw General Manager Kurt Angle announced sudden death overtime and Ziggler ended up retaining the title with help from Drew McIntyre.

After the show, the former Champion Rollins received a standing ovation from the crowd and people chanted ‘Thank You Rollins’ once the PPV went off air.

10 Takeaways From WWE Extreme Rules 2018

WWE Extreme Rules aired live from the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, PA on July 15th, 2018. On the Kickoff Show, Andrade “Cien” Almas defeated Sin Cara in impressive fashion. SAnitY defeated New Day in a Tables Match during the Kickoff Show as well.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1018629447019360257

RAW GM Kurt Angle said during the show that Universal Champion Brock Lesnar has to show up to RAW tomorrow night and determine when he is going to defend his title next or he will be stripped of the Universal Championship.

Here are 10 takeaways from WWE Extreme Rules 2018:

The B-Team Are The New RAW Tag Team Champions

B team Extreme Rules

RAW Tag Team Champions Bray Wyatt & Matt Hardy defended their titles against The B-Team (Curtis Axel & Bo Dallas) to start off WWE Extreme Rules 2018. Matt Hardy and Bo Dallas start off the match and traded punches in the middle of the ring. Matt threw Dallas into the turnbuckle and unloaded a few more punches to Bo’s face. Matt connected with a Leg Drop for a two count and then Bo rolled out of the ring to regroup.

Bray Wyatt tagged into the match to battle his brother Bo. Dallas backed away and tagged in Axel as the crowd booed. Bray decked Axel with a Clothesline and then pointed at Bo on the apron. Wyatt followed it up with a headbutt to Axel’s chest and then charged at him in the corner. Axel dodged Bray and then stomped him down in the corner.

Wyatt exploded out of the corner with a Clothesline and tagged Hardy back in. Matt bounced Axel’s face off of each turnbuckle as the crowd chanted “delete!”. Hardy hit Axel with an Elbow Drop off the second rope for a two count. Bo booted Matt in the face while the referee wasn’t paying attention.

Dallas then tagged in and isolated Matt in the corner. Dueling “let’s go B-Team!” and “B-Team sucks!” chants broke out as Bo applied a Headlock in the middle of the ring. Axel got back in and planted Matt with a DDT for a two count. Hardy battled back and dropped Axel with the Side Effect.

Bo and Bray tagged in and Wyatt sent Dallas into the corner. Bray connected with a Splash and then launched Axel out of the ring. Wyatt hit Bo with a Uranage and then geared up in the corner. Hardy tagged in and Bo shoved Matt into Wyatt and Bray went tumbling out of the ring. Bo then hung up Hardy on the top rope and connected with a Neckbreaker for the pinfall victory.

Opinion: RAW’s tag division hasn’t been interesting for a while now. The B-Team isn’t going to change that and I doubt they will hold the titles for long. I’d like to see teams like The Revival and AOP built up on RAW going forward.

Balor Escaped With A Victory

Finn Balor Extreme Rules

Constable Corbin battled Finn Balor tonight at Extreme Rules. Corbin started off the match in control and beatdown Balor in the corner. Corbin dropped Finn with a Clothesline and taunted Balor by shouting that he was too small to do anything about it.

Baron hit another Clothesline for a two count. Corbin then planted Balor with a Chokeslam Backbreaker for another near fall. After Balor kicked out, Corbin flipped out and started shouting at the referee to count faster.

Corbin brought Finn back to the corner and beat the hell out of him. Finn ducked under a Clothesline and planted Corbin with a Slingblade. Finn then charged at Corbin but Baron was ready and caught Balor with Deep Six for another two count.

Finn battled back and hit Corbin with a Dropkick that knocked him to the canvas. Balor climbed to the top rope but Corbin got up and crotched him on the turnbuckle. Corbin went for the End of Days but Balor countered it into a roll-up for the pinfall victory.

Carmella Is Still SmackDown Women’s Champion

carmella extreme rules

Carmella defended her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Asuka tonight at Extreme Rules. James Ellsworth was suspended above the ring in a shark cage during the match.

Asuka started off the match in control and connected with a series of kicks to Carmella. Asuka went for a Body Slam but Carmella countered and slammed Asuka to the canvas. Ellsworth then dropped a chain down to Carmella but Asuka caught her before she should use it.

Carmella booted Asuka in the back and crawled towards the chain but the referee took it away. Ellsworth then dropped a spray bottle down to Carmella but Asuka once again caught her before she could use it.

Asuka connected with a knee to the face and then the Hip Attack for a two count. Asuka applied the Asuka Lock but Carmella got her foot on the rope to break the hold. Asuka planted Carmella with a Suplex to the floor outside the ring and then threw her into the barricade.

Ellsworth then picked the lock and escaped the cage but he somehow got his foot caught and was suspended upside down from the cage. Asuka hit Ellsworth with a Dropkick in the back as he was hanging above the ring.

Asuka threw WWE officials out of the ring as they tried to help out Ellsworth. She continued to beatdown Ellsworth as Carmella snuck up behind Asuka. Carmella shoved Asuka face-first into the shark cage for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Asuka attacked Ellsworth again and hit him with a couple German Suplexes. Asuka then applied the Asuka Lock to Ellsworth in the middle of the ring.

Opinion: This was worse than I thought it was going to be. I figured that Ellsworth was going to drop something down from the cage during the match. He did that right away and then goofily got himself stuck upside down. There was nothing entertaining about this and the finish to the match was a shove in the back. Asuka was undefeated and now she is losing comedy matches to Carmella.

Shinsuke Nakamura Won The US Title & Orton Returned

Nakamura Orton Extreme Rules

Jeff Hardy defended the United States Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura tonight at Extreme Rules. Before the match, Nakamura hit Jeff Hardy with a low blow while the referee was about to call for the bell.

Reigns battled back with a giant punch to the face and then brought Lashley to the corner of the ring. Roman bounced Lashley’s face off the top turnbuckle and then connected with an elbow to the face for a one count.

Roman hung up Lashley on the middle rope and connected with the Drive-By for a two count. Reigns applied a Chin Lock in the middle of the ring but Lashley quickly battled out of the hold. Reigns connected with a right hand to the face and then threw Bobby out of the ring.

Roman shouted that this was his yard and geared up for the Spear. Lashley countered with a Spear of his own for the pinfall victory.

Opinion: The crowd didn’t reject this match as much as I expected. To Reigns and Lashley’s credit, this was a solid match. I just don’t find Lashley all that entertaining as a character at all and don’t have any interest in seeing him compete for the Universal Championship. WWE made a good call by not having this match as the main event. I think the crowd would have completely rejected it if it was the last match on the show.

McIntyre didn’t stop the attack and the referee finally kicked McIntyre out from ringside. Drew hit Rollins with a Claymore kick before leaving the ring. Ziggler crawled over to Rollins and covered him. Rollins is still ahead 3-1 with 19 minutes remaining. Ziggler quickly hit a Superkick for another fall to make the score 3-2.

https://twitter.com/totaldivaseps/status/1018681335794356224

Dolph threw Rollins into the ring post and planted him with a Zig Zag for a fall to tie it at 3-3. Ziggler missed with a Splash in the corner and Rollins planted him with a Slingblade. Rollins Clotheslined Ziggler out of the ring and went for a Suicide Dive but Dolph caught him with a forearm to the face. Ziggler then covered Rollins and put his feet on the ropes for leverage for another fall. It was now 4-3 Ziggler with 15 minutes left in the match. Dolph locked in a Sleeper Hold and the match slowed down for the next few minutes.

Rollins broke the hold and Clotheslined Ziggler out of the ring. Seth hit a Suicide Dive onto Ziggler and then delivered another one on the opposite side of the ring. Rollins brought Ziggler back into the ring and hit him with a springboard Clothesline for a two count.

Seth connected with a Blockbuster off the second rope for a two count. The crowd erupted because they put the clock back on the jumbotron. They had removed it because the crowd was counting down as if it were a Royal Rumble and making a buzzing sound whenever a minute went by.

Rollins delivered a knee to the face for another two count with 8 minutes left in the match. Seth knocked Ziggler to the canvas and connected with a Frog Splash off the top rope for a two count. Rollins followed it up with a Superplex and then a Falcon Arrow for another two count. Rolllins tied it up via a roll-up with three minutes remaining in the match and then locked in a Sharpshooter. RAW GM Kurt Angle came down to the entrance ramp and announced that this match would not end in a tie and that the next fall wins. McIntyre hopped up on the ring apron to distract Rollins. Seth booted him off the apron but Dolph connected with the Zig Zag to Rollins for the pinfall victory. Ziggler won 5-4 and is still the Intercontinental Champion.

Opinion: The crowd was obnoxious during this match and made it about themselves instead of Rollins and Ziggler. There are times where a crowd can have a negative impact on a match and we saw that tonight. As for the Iron Man Match itself, I thought it was ridiculous how many falls there were early. It completely me out of the match and then the crowd completely ruined the rest of it. I didn’t have high expectations for this show, so I wasn’t let down by it. In my opinion, the match of the night was AJ Styles vs. Rusev. Owens getting thrown off the cage was a great moment, but the rest of the show didn’t do anything for me.

Possible Spoiler: Major Name Spotted In Vicinity Of Extreme Rules

With Extreme Rules PPV being just a few hours away, former WWE Star Hulk Hogan has made a move which is destined to start some strong rumors about his future with the company.

According to Pwinsider Hogan, along with Jimmy Hart flew to Cleveland, Ohio yesterday evening. What’s interesting to note here is that the city is just 2 hours away from Pittsburgh, PA, where the Extreme PPV is being held this year:

While it’s hard to make anything out of this right now, we noted before how Hulk started talking to the company about a possible return before the Greatest Royal Rumble event in April earlier this year.

Although there is no news about the former World Champion being contacted for the PPV tonight since it’s WWE a possible return is never completely out of question.

It’s worth mentioning here that we don’t have knowledge of a publicly announced Hogan appearance near or in the city in the next few days.

As always, we’ll be having Live coverage of the Extreme Rules PPV on SEScoops tonight.
