Finn Balor declared that the Prince is back when he appeared on WWE Backstage after his heel turn and since then people have been wondering if he will also bring back his old entrance where he used to wear a light-up jacket.
During the recent episode of the State of Combat podcast, the former Universal Champion discussed his heel turn in detail and explained the reasoning behind it.
When asked about possibly bringing the light-up jacket back,
Balor revealed that he asked NJPW officials to find it but they couldn’t and
claimed that he is going to create something new and different instead of going
back:
“I don’t want to create one. I do not care about the light-up jacket. I am going to create something different and something new, which is what I had done for the past 19 years. I am not going to go back. I am going to go forward.”
The former NXT Champion also talked about how people compare
his jacket look to the one of Chris Jericho and gave his thoughts on the debate
on who came up with the light-up look first.
Finn revealed that his own look was inspired by the movie Tron and he went on to claim that he had never seen Chris’ jacket before coming up with it for himself.
Recent WWE storyline plans for Finn Balor that were ultimately scrapped have come to light. Finn Balor is now working as heel on the NXT brand, but it turns out the company had other plans for him up until recently.
Balor asked WWE officials for two months off, which started in August with the idea being that his sabbatical would begin once he lost to Bray Wyatt at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event. Despite what was being speculated, WWE never intended for Balor to continue his feud with Wyatt.
Balor was supposed to be moved from RAW to SmackDown once he returned after taking time off, according to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
Thus, that’s the reason that he was advertised for SmackDown live events on WWE’s Australian tour that went down from October 21st to 23rd as well as WWE UK tour later this month.
When WWE NXT moved from the WWE Network to the USA Network starting in September, a noticeable trend of declining ratings for NXT started and went downhill quickly once they went head-to-head with AEW Dynamite on TNT in the same time slot.
He was moved to NXT with the idea that his star power could make more of a difference there.
Since making his return to NXT, Balor got the wrestling world talking with turning heel by attacking Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa that kicked off his next feud.
Finn Balor recently returned to WWE’s black-and-gold brand NXT. In an interview with TV Insider, Balor reflected on his return to the show. He claimed that he’s not just a part of NXT, he is NXT, stressing that nobody watched the show after he left for WWE’s main roster.
“I’m not part of this brand. I am the brand,” Finn said. “When Finn’s gone, nobody is watching. When Finn’s there, everybody is watching. We talk about Johnny Gargano, the heart of NXT. He is this NXT darling. He was champion for 57 days. Finn Balor was champion for 292 days, so if the heart of NXT was a 57-day champ, there are some big issues.”
He explained how the shackles have been on him for too long, and he was forced into a little box on the main roster. Now, however, he is free.
“The shackles are completely off,” he said. “I’m going to go back to what I like to do, which is just being myself and going out there no holds barred and have a little fun.”
Balor remained coy when asked if the WWE Universe will ever see The Demon again. He teased that fans were about to see a whole new side of him, adding that it’s going to be a wild ride.
Finn Balor recently spoke with Sports Illustrated about a wide range of topics including WWE’s competition with AEW.
When the launch of AEW’s weekly TV deal on TNT to air Dynamite came closer, WWE reached a deal with the USA Network to air NXT in the same timeslot as AEW.
According to Balor, he doesn’t know if they are competing with any promotion.
“I don’t know if we’re competing with anyone. The only person I’m competing with is myself from yesterday. I’m trying to be better than who I was yesterday. On this Wednesday, I’m going to be better than I was last Wednesday. That’s the way I approach life and that’s how I evolve.”
Balor stated that he doesn’t worry about what other people are doing but rather focused on the brand that he’s working for. He thinks NXT is the purest form of wrestling on this planet.
Balor brought up how doing what he wants in the ring with no restrictions is the greatest honor that he can have. He added that he’s treating this as an opportunity to help evolve as a performer and help change the game again.
Balor was also asked about his return which led to him turning heel.
“Everybody talks about ‘Finn going back to NXT’ when in reality I’ve gone back to who I was. I’d been caught up in the bubble of WWE and what they wanted me to be and how they expected me to perform as a character, and I took some time off to re-evaluate who I am and where I came from.
I re-evaluated what I want to do and what I want to achieve, and I decided the best thing for me is to be true to who I am.”
Balor added that he doesn’t fit the mold to play corporate ball and please everyone. Instead, he needs to please himself, which has led to him shaking the trees and see what falls out.
Balor returned to NXT on the October 2nd episode and then turned heel on last Wednesday’s episode of NXT. The fallout of that turn is expected to play out on this week’s show.
Finn Balor’s heel turn and attack on Johnny Gargano Wednesday night on NXT continues to be one of the hotter topics in wrestling today. Balor was confronted at an airport recently by reporters for TMZ wanting answers on why he attacked Gargano. Balor was flying in for his appearance on WWE Backstage Friday night.
“A long time coming,” Balor said regarding his attack on Gargano.
“Time to shake the trees and see what falls out,” he responded when asked why he did it. “Am I a bad guy? Or do I just do bad things sometimes? I don’t know, you tell me. Lines are blurred in this day in age, we don’t know what’s going on.”
Balor was then asked if he feels he’ll end up on the main roster again someday.
“What do you mean ‘main roster’?” Balor asked. “Wherever I am is the main roster, brother.”
Balor was also asked if he might team up with his former stablemates in the O.C but neglected to give a firm answer.
“What, Orange County?” Balor responded. “Everybody wants to do something, everybody wants to do something with Finn.”
The full conversation with Balor can be viewed in the player below:
Finn Balor shocked the world on Wednesday night when he attacked Johnny Gargano following NXT on USA this week. Balor closed the show standing tall over Gargano and 2 days later appeared on WWE Backstage last night with Renee Young and Booker T.
“Felt good making a return, felt good. It felt better kicking Johnny Gargano in the head,” Balor said. “It felt good standing back up, seeing him on the ground, seeing the people speechless, that felt good.”
“I feel like maybe I haven’t been true to myself for a long time,” he continued.
Renee Young then mentioned that several wrestlers from a “particular club” have been talking about Balor’s actions from Wednesday. She asked Balor if he’s had a chance to speak with any of his former stablemates.
“I’ve spoken to a lot of people. Seems like I’m a popular guy this week,” Balor responded.
“This is the real Finn Balor. You’re a big fan of my work from before WWE, right?” Balor then asked Booker. “Let’s just say the Prince is back.”
The full interview with Finn Balor, Booker T, and Renee Young can be seen in the player below:
The October 16 edition of NXT saw Finn Balor making a huge announcement regarding his in-ring status. He announced that the will be making his return to NXT after three years.
Balor was last seen in the ring at SummerSlam where he was defeated by The Fiend on the PPV event.
After his loss, Balor was not seen on WWE programming for a long time until the October 2 episode of NXT where he made his return to television much to fans’ surprise.
Finn came out after Adam Cole had successfully defended his NXT Championship against Matt Riddle in the opening match of the night. He stared down Cole and exchanged words off-mic.
Meanwhile, on the October 16 episode, a vignette featuring the former Universal Champion aired on the show where Finn Balor talked about his past and the upcoming future. He also sent a message to the entire NXT roster warning them about his return.
“When your life comes to a crossroads, the only way to find a path to take is to revisit the ones you’ve walked before. How did you get here? Did your footsteps leave the world in a better place? Or did your missteps leave the world covered in darkness, egos, mistakes, errors? Re-trace your steps to find your heart. I have. Next week, my future will be my past.”
WWE had officially moved Finn Balor from the SmackDown roster to NXT. The popular superstar returned to his former brand last week and faced off with Adam Cole.
“In 2019, (Balor) returned to WWE NXT on the first-ever two-hour live episode on USA,” Balor’s bio now reads on WWE.com.
It would be interesting to see who Balor would get involved in after his return to NXT. Adam Cole is the NXT Champion and judging by Balor’s last appearance on the show, he could be going straight for the title.
WWE Superstar Finn Balor recently reunited with a few friends from New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW).
The former Universal Champion took some time to catch up with some of his former Bullet Club stablemates for a Sunday BBQ. He joined Tama Tonga and Tonga’s father, Haku, for the event. They were also joined by NXT Superstar KUSHIDA, who made a name for himself in NJPW before signing with WWE.
Both Balor and Tonga uploaded photos of their reunion to social media to commemorate their day. Balor wrote “Family. @Tama_Tonga & HAKU” to caption the picture of himself, flanked by Tonga and Haku. In the picture, Balor is throwing up the Too Sweet gesture on both hands.
Tonga uploaded a few photos, including the one Balor uploaded, alongside the caption:
“Had some friends over for a Sunday BBQ reminiscing about our good times together in [Japanese Flag Emoji]. Surround yourself with good people and keep moving forward.”

Balor was at one point the leader of Bullet Club in NJPW, back when he was known as Prince Devitt. He recently returned to NXT, announcing that he was once more part of the black-and-gold brand during a confrontation with current NXT Champion Adam Cole. Tama Tonga, meanwhile, is one half of the current IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions in NJPW alongside his brother Tonga Loa.
When Finn Balor returned to NXT on the first 2-hour live episode of NXT on the USA Network many fans noticed a new tattoo on his hand. Recently, Balor posted several pics of his new artwork. The title of his tattoo appears to be “the Boy Who Returned From Space.”
Balor posted the following pictures of his new tattoo to his social media accounts recently:
“I just want to continue to evolve,” Bálor said. “Been doing this for a long time, and sometimes when you stay in the same place for too long you get a little stagnant, you rely on your old tricks and old ways and you kind of just skate past. But there’s no skating here in NXT. I have to swim for sure, because It’s going to be a fight.”
WWE has officially moved Finn Balor from the SmackDown roster to NXT. The popular superstar returned to his former brand last week and faced off with Adam Cole.
“In 2019, (Balor) returned to WWE NXT on the first-ever two-hour live episode on USA,” Balor’s bio now reads on WWE.com.
Following his return to NXT last week, Balor spoke with Newsweek about what being back in Full Sail means to him.
Balor also addressed the influx of new talent to NXT.
“I have to be honest, it’s a little nerve-wracking. The game has changed a lot in NXT since I was here,” Bálor said. “Seeing the match Cole and Matt Riddle put on tonight, they are two of the absolute best in-ring competitors in the world. So it’s a little nerve-wracking to get into the deep end with those guys. It’s gotta be a challenge for myself in and out of the ring, and personally, to see if i can still go. It’s been awhile since I’ve been here, and the NXT style has evolved incredibly. When I was here it was me and [Samoa] Joe, and back then, I don’t want to say it was a slower pace, but it was definitely more rugged here and there. They are going fast, and it’s going to be a test for me and I’m looking forward to it.”
Adam Cole was not been dethroned as WWE NXT Champion by Matt Riddle.
Cole beat Riddle to retain the title during Wednesday’s episode of WWE NXT in Winter Park, Florida at Full Sail University on the USA Network.
After the match, former NXT Champion Finn Balor made his return after being absent for two months. Balor walked down to the ring and told Cole that he’s back in NXT.
This contest was set up on last week’s episode when WWE held a second Street Fight between Riddle Killian Dain. This comes after their original Street Fight last week went to a no contest.
WWE NXT General Manager William Regal added some big stakes to this match as it was supposed to determine who will be next in line for a championship match.
As seen on the show, Riddle ended up winning it. As a result, Riddle had earned the right to challenge Cole for the WWE NXT Title.
Cole beat Johnny Gargano to become the champion in the main event of WWE NXT TakeOver: XXV event in Bridgeport, CT on June 1st.
What are your thoughts on Adam Cole retaining the NXT Title? Was this the right call by WWE officials? Sound off in the comment section.
It appears that Finn Balor is gearing up for his WWE return.
After it was reported a few months ago that Balor had scheduled to take time off from WWE for a month or two in order to recharge his batteries, WWE is starting to advertise him for shows.
PWInsider has listed the matches that will be happening on WWE’s upcoming Australian tour, which goes down from October 21st to 23rd.
On this tour, he’s advertised to challenge Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Intercontinental Title.
With that said, Balor is expected to make his return within the next month, which would meet the timeline of his projected return from taking time off.
Balor recently asked WWE officials for two months off, which started last month. He was last seen when he took on Bray Wyatt at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event.
WWE Trying To Hire Female Referees
WWE officials are trying to hire new referees, specifically female referees, according to Casey of Squared Circle Sirens.
The attempt by the company hasn’t been as easy as they thought as it was noted in the report that the company tried to hire one indie women’s wrestler to work as a referee, but she reportedly turned the gig down. As of this writing, there’s no word yet on who that referee was.
As of this writing, WWE has 21 active referees on their rosters that include Jessika Carr, who is the only female referee.
AEW recently signed Aubrey Edwards to be a referee, which comes at an interesting time as she worked a set of WWE NXT TV tapings back in July 2018, but was not signed.
Finn Balor spoke with GQ to promote Sunday’s WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event where he talked about fitness and his gym routine.
Although Balor is in great shape, it’s not all because of his hard work in the gym. Right off the bat, Balor made it known that he doesn’t do any cardio training for his pro wrestling matches. This was brought up when asked whether genetics or working out in the gym made him have abs.
“I think it’s a little bit of both. Obviously, they go hand in hand. But I would lean more towards made in the kitchen. I can tell you right now that I do absolutely zero cardio.”
Balor noted if he goes into a regular gym then he’ll it on the bike for six minutes simply to transition his mind from being in civilization to the gym. There’s not much work for any sort of calorie burn or warmup.
Balor thinks it’s an OCD thing he has. He also revealed that he won’t train for more than an hour. Most of the time there will be a long period beforehand with some active stretching and accessory. There’s a reason for it.
“I won’t do anything that’s going to jeopardize what I do in the ring, so I’m not going to do any heavy squats, any heavy deadlifts.”
Instead, he’s more worried about the accessory work and making sure all the joints are in place with rotation due to his shoulder injuries in the past.
He noted that he wants to do all that accessory work first when he’s fresh, concentrated and then hypertrophy bodybuilding towards the end.
Balor will take on Bray Wyatt at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event.
We noted before how WWE pulled Finn Balor from SmackVille special citing an injury, though later it was revealed that the former Intercontinental Champion was removed from the show due to an illness.
After this Balor posted a photo from hospital on his Instagram account with the caption SummerSlam, suggesting that he will still be attending the upcoming PPV:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B0eDZYjhXgi/
Wrestling Observer Radio later provided more updates on Balor’s status and it revealed that the former World Champion was hospitalized due to stomach flu.
Regarding his in-ring status, it was noted that Balor is not
expected to stay out of action for very long and WWE officials are hoping for
him to return to the ring soon
According to reports, he could be back in the ring as soon
as this Tuesday night for this week’s episode of SmackDown Live where he is
supposed to compete with Dolph Ziggler.
Finn Balor was originally scheduled to challenge the current
Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura for his title at the SmackVille
special this past Saturday.
Though after the medical staff declared him to be unfit for the bout, Ali replaced Balor in the match against Nakamura. You can check out the full result of the SmackVille special here.
As we noted before, WWE announced earlier today that Finn
Balor is being pulled from the SmackVille network special because he is not
medically cleared to compete at the show.
However, while the company claimed that the former
Intercontinental Champion is dealing with an injury, a new report reveals that
this is not the case.
Per reports from PWinsider, the former NXT Champion has not been pulled from the show due to an injury and he is actually dealing with an illness.
While the report does not reveal specific details about his
condition, an illness means that Balor might be able to return to ring sooner
rather than later.
Finn Balor Looking For Time Off
It was reported recently that Finn Balor has asked for a couple of months off from WWE to recharge and that the company officials have granted his request.
He is believed to be taking time off from the company after the upcoming SummerSlam PPV and he is scheduled to go one on one against Bray Wyatt at the upcoming show.
So it wouldn’t be a surprise if Balor loses his bout against
the former WWE Champion and then goes on the vacation, allowing Wyatt to gather
some momentum on his re-debut.
This show takes place on Saturday night. Balor was supposed to challenge WWE Intercontinental Champion Shinsuke Nakamura for the title.
As of this writing, there’s no word yet on what the exact injury that Balor is dealing with or how long he’ll be on the sidelines while recovering from this injury.
WWE’s Statement On Finn Balor
Balor’s replacement to face Nakamura wasn’t announced. WWE issued the following statement on their Twitter account:
“During the week, @FinnBalor suffered an undisclosed injury. @WWE Medical has unfortunately not cleared him for competition tonight at #SMACKVILLE. It is unknown who or if @ShinsukeN defends his title tonight. Stay tuned as we learn more.”
His status at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event is up in the air as he’s slated to take on Bray Wyatt in a singles match next month.
It’s been reported that Balor is slated to take time off from WWE starting after SummerSlam for two months to recharge his batteries. His last match came back on July 15th where he worked a match against Samoa Joe on RAW.
Make sure to joins us later tonight for a full recap of the WWE Smackville Special from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee that will air on WWE’s streaming service, WWE Network.
WWE has announced 2 matches and an interview segment for this week’s Smackdown. The event will take place in Memphis, Tennessee and will feature an appearance from Jerry “the King” Lawler.
Finn Balor will face Dolph Ziggler in single’s competition. Ziggler is fresh off super-kicking Shawn Michaels last week while Balor is entering a program with Bray Wyatt.
Balor is also wrestling tonight on the WWE Network. He will challenge Shinsuke Nakamura for the Intercontinental title on the Smashville WWE Network special. Dolph Ziggler will also face Samoa Joe and Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship in a triple threat match on the show.
Xavier Woods & Big E (New Day) vs Drew McIntyre & Elias
Also scheduled for this week’s Smackdown will be a tag-team match between New Day’s Xavier Woods & Big E and Drew McIntyre & Elias in a non-title match.
Trish Stratus Scheduled For Smackdown Appearance
Also recently scheduled for Smackdown this week is a special appearance from WWE Hall of Famer Trish Stratus. Trish will be a guest on Jerry Lawler’s “King’s Court” as there are reports she is scheduled to face Charlotte Flair at SummerSlam.
Things appear to be getting serious between Finn Balor and girlfriend Veronica Rodriguez. The former WWE Universal Champion and the FOX Sports Mexico broadcaster have been dating since last year.
Balor and Rodriguez went public with their relationship earlier this summer after she interviewed him in Madrid during the 2019 UEFA Champions League Finals. As seen below, Balor appeared to be in a merry state when making the announcement live on the air.

On Monday, Finn Balor posted a photo on Instagram revealing that he and Rodrigeuz recently got matching tattoos. As seen below, the tattoos show a date (July 21st, 2018) and coordinates for a location, 310°30W, 2°32N.
Balor was previously romantically linked to WWE broadcaster Cathy Kelley.
Below, you can check out photos of the matching tattoos as well as a few other shots of the happy couple together.
Last week’s episode of Monday Night RAW finally saw the return of Bray Wyatt to live TV. He debuted his new ‘Fiend’ character, assaulting Finn Balor in the process.
This attack seems to be setting up Wyatt’s return feud and, notably, Balor’s exit feud. Finn reportedly requested time off from WWE, and the promotion will probably use the bout between the two as a means of giving it to him. Their match will most likely take place at SummerSlam.
If you thought we might be getting a matchup featuring The Fiend versus The Demon, however, prepare to be disappointed.
A fan asked Dave Meltzer on Twitter whether the Demon will be appearing at SummerSlam. Meltzer’s two-letter response was to the point: No.
At one point we were on the cusp of a match featuring The Demon vs Bray Wyatt’s Sister Abigail persona, but this never came to fruition. It appears that the WWE Universe will simply have to wait a little longer if they want to see the Demon take on a more psychotic Bray Wyatt.
There is a good chance that the matchup will be made official during tonight’s RAW Reunion special.
SummerSlam takes place on August 11th from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Canada.
Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor has been granted time off from WWE.
The news broke on Monday night after Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet reported that Balor will be taking a little bit of time away starting next month. It was noted in the report that Balor recently asked WWE officials for two months off.
While the exact reason for him requesting time off, one source told them that the wrestler was just looking to “recharge.” Once Balor put in the request, WWE granted it and his time off will begin sometime in August. Satin wrote, “From how it sounds, this would likely happen after SummerSlam.”
Balor dropped the Intercontinental Championship to Shinsuke Nakamura during the Extreme Rules kickoff show on Sunday night in Philadelphia, PA.
The SummerSlam pay-per-view event takes place on Sunday, August 11, 2019 in Toronto, Ontario at the Scotiabank Arena and will air on the WWE Network.
As of this writing, there’s no word yet on who Balor will be facing at this event but it’s possible that WWE will book a rematch between Nakamura and Balor for the Intercontinental Title.
Current WWE Intercontinental Champion Finn Balor, who we haven’t seen much of lately, could have a former world champion as his next challenger.
On this week’s episode of SmackDown Live, Balor was being interviewed backstage by Kayla Braxton on what his plans are next. He was about to answer but his eye caught someone in the distance. The camera panned to the left and it revealed Shinsuke Nakamura, who then walked toward Balor.
Both of them stared down each other as Nakamura seemed to set his sights on the IC Championship with a ‘Two Sweet’ gesture.
It was noted by the announcers that Balor looks to have found his new challenger. All we need is a confirmation and the two will likely face each other at Extreme Rules.
The two have faced each other before under the WWE banner back in NXT in 2016. Nakamura came out as the winner that time, and the match was critically acclaimed.
The pairing of the two superstars looks great and the two performers are capable of giving five-star performances. We will be looking forward to their bout as it comes to fruition soon.
Finn Balor will remain on top as the secondary title holder on the WWE SmackDown Live roster.
He retained the WWE Intercontinental Championship once he beat Andrade at Friday’s (June 7, 2019) WWE Super Showdown pay-per-view event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium on the WWE Network.
Balor won the prestigious secondary title for the first time when he beat Bobby Lashley back at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event in Houston, Texas in February.
Balor beat Lashley to regain the title for the second time in April in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium at WrestleMania 35, which is the biggest event of the year for the company.
Time will tell whether WWE continues this feud or goes into a different direction heading into the Stomping Grounds pay-per-view event that takes place on Sunday, June 23 at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA.
What are your thoughts on Finn Balor retaining the WWE Intercontinental Championship? Was this the right call by WWE officials? Sound off in the comment section.
When WWE rolls into King Abdullah International Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on June 7th, the Intercontinental Championship will be on the line. The promotion recently announced that Finn Balor will dawn his demon persona to defend the IC title against Andrade on the show.
“Where Andrade seeks to dethrone the reigning Intercontinental Champion, Bálor is out to prove his determined rival is barking up the wrong tree,” a WWE press release fro the match reads. “While Andrade is known for pushing his opponents to the edge, how will his killer instinct fare against the demonic force of Bálor’s dark entity?”
Finn Balor vs Andrade
The match between Balor and Andrade will be the 3rd single’s bout between the two on WWE programming. Andrade defeated Balor on the April 15th RAW and Balor beat Andrade on the April 23rd Smackdown.
Reports of WWE Officials being high on Andrade have been a constant in the past few months and it appears that this is why the company is planning to continue his championship feud with Finn Balor in upcoming times.
Dave Meltzer talked about this feud between the former Universal Champion and the former NXT Champion in the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio and revealed that this rivalry is expected to continue beyond the upcoming Money In The Bank PPV.
For those who don’t know, Andrade and Balor have been feuding since the Superstar Shakeup edition of Raw last month.
These two have put on some great matches and both the stars have scored at least one victory against each other in the bouts they have had since then.
There have been reports of WWE officials being impressed
with Andrade in the past and last year, it was said that the company plans to
give him a push in 2019.
Now the latest reports are suggesting that the officials are still high on the former NXT Star and it’d be interesting to see if this transits into an Intercontinental Championship run for Almas in near future.
Both Andrade and Finn Balor are currently scheduled to participate in the Men’s Money In The Bank ladder match alongside Ricochet, Randy Orton, Ali, Sami Zayn, Drew McIntyre and Baron Corbin, at the PPV of the same name this Sunday
