Goldberg Responds To Ryback Saying He’s A Better Wrestler and Athlete

Bill Goldberg addressed Ryback’s critical remarks in WWE Magazine regarding comparisons between the two wrestlers via Twitter Sunday.

In the interview, Ryback proclaimed to be a better wrestler and athlete than Goldberg ever was. Goldberg, who played in the National Football League, particularly took issue with the WWE Superstar proclaiming himself as the better athlete.

“Better athlete? Come on dude wake up…..,” Goldberg tweeted.

In a remark re-tweeted by Goldberg, former WCW colleague Scotty Riggs stated, “Take it as a complement that the kid is unsuccessfully trying to outshine you!!”

Former WCW announcer Mark Madden also noted earlier, “Ryback thinks he’s superior to @Goldberg? Ryback is a Xerox of a Xerox. Goldberg was an organic phenomenon. We’ll see how Ryback winds up.”

Goldberg wrote “Case closed!” in response to the following remark: “Ryback is a better athlete than @Goldberg? I don’t remember seeing Ryback play in the NFL. #ShowSomeRespect.”

During the WWE Magazine interview, Ryback said comparisons between the two don’t bother him, but that “people are misinformed.”

“People see a big guy with a shaved head who’s intense, and they draw those comparisons,” Ryback stated. “I will say this: Goldberg did this for the money. He was never a fan of wrestling. I do this because I have a passion for it, and that’s the biggest difference between Goldberg and me. I’m not here to make five million dollars and then walk away. I’m here for life. And, I firmly believe that I’m much better than he was in the ring. He was great, and I was a fan of his when I was younger. But, I feel I’m a better athlete and wrestler than Goldberg ever was, and people are going to see that over time.”

Ryback Says He’s Better Than Goldberg Ever Was

Ryback addressed oft-made comparisons between himself and Bill Goldberg during an interview published in the latest issue of WWE Magazine. He said they don’t bother him and that “people are misinformed.”

“People see a big guy with a shaved head who’s intense, and they draw those comparisons,” said Ryback. “I will say this: Goldberg did this for the money. He was never a fan of wrestling. I do this because I have a passion for it, and that’s the biggest difference between Goldberg and me.”

“I’m not here to make five million dollars and then walk away. I’m here for life. And, I firmly believe that I’m much better than he was in the ring. He was great, and I was a fan of his when I was younger. But, I feel I’m a better athlete and wrestler than Goldberg ever was, and people are going to see that over time.”

DISCUSSION: Does Ryback have the potential to be better than Goldberg was in his prime? Who would win in a match between RYBACK and GOLDBERG? Would you want to see this dream match at WrestleMania 29??

Goldberg Interview – Wants Rematch Against Brock Lesnar, His Wild Idea To End “The Streak”, Favorite Matches

Bill Goldberg joined Washington Redskins defensive end Adam Carriker and ‘Weight Loss Champion’ Chuck Carroll this week on 4th & Pain.

The two-time World Heavyweight Champion touched on how he would have ended his undefeated streak differently. He didn’t seem upset that the streak ended, but he would have made one major change to the finish—he would have used a real Taser.

The group also touched on how his undefeated streak began, who was responsible for it and how it will never be replicated.

Goldberg revealed he once played for current Redskins defensive coordinator Jim Haslett in the World Football League. In addition, Goldberg predicted “nothing by happy times” ahead for the Washington Redskins. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

The Streak’s Beginning:

“I think between Tenay and Bobby Heenan, it was something they came up with. In all honesty, the character development, the crowd reaction, the squash matches, that all just came to be. I see what other companies are trying to do to emulate the streak and the reality is it’s hard to really duplicate something like that that actually came about by chance, by accident. It all kind of happened as it was going on. I don’t believe it was a preplanned being to give me an undefeated streak for a year or however long a period of time it was. It just gained momentum week after week after week and they just rode it out. I was lucky in the right place at the right time. Six or eight months after I got in the business I had the belt around my waist.”

The Streak’s End:

I’m upset because they wouldn’t let Scott Hall hit me with the (Taser) with the barbs in it. Because that’s what I want. I figured if I’m going down, I want you to stick me for real. But, it is what it is. A few weeks after Kevin Nash was put on the booking committee, Kevin Nash gets to beat me first. But hey, it is what it is.”

Seriously?! Real Barbs?!

“Absolutely! Adam (Carriker) can tell you… d-lineman are a different breed. I truly believe that even 20 years past me playing football, I have the same mentality as I did back then. I’m sure Adam has it. You have to. You gotta be a little nuts.

“The reality is, I wanted it as real as humanly possible. And if means me taking two barbs in my chest on national TV to make it look real, then damn! Let’s do it! I’m all for it.

“Right when they knocked on my door, I didn’t fake head butt every door and every locker in every training room that we were at. I went full bore. I was in it to win it, that’s for sure.

Favorite matches

“I always liked working with the Steiner Brothers. I loved working with them.

“Dallas Page… the match Dallas and I had at Halloween Havoc one year and he wanted me to spear him like 15 times in the damn match. It turned out to be a pretty darned good match. I ended up knocking myself out when I ended up spearing him, but was able to finish the match.

“The Hogan match at the Georgia Dome. That night at the Georgia Dome was the coolest thing in the world. Not because I was able to win the World Championship, not because it was in front of 44,000 people. But it was in front of the crowd that used to cheer us on as the Falcons.

“At the end of the night Jessie Tuggle, Chuck Smith… all the guys came out to save me. For that one second the guys that I revere, the guys that I respected, that I looked up to, the guys that make it All-Pro, the guys that are able to start every week and just kick ass wanted to be where I was. And so for me, that was really the coolest moment of my professional life, because the people that I looked up to wanted to be me and that was just a really cool feeling.”

Goldberg also noted that he would be interested in wrestling Steve Austin and The Undertaker and would “love” a rematch against Brock Lesnar. The full podcast is available at 4thandpain.com.

JR Blog: Austin, Goldberg & Batista Back In WWE, Wellness Policy

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

Pro Wrestling Bias: “I strongly dislike this unflattering trait that many in our society have. Perhaps that’s why acting, for some wrestlers, is a viable alternative for performers leaving the business. Society isn’t geared to afford many other opportunities for former wrestlers without them having a marketable skill set and especially without an education. ”

WWE’s Wellness Policy: “I’m not against two strikes and out being the benchmark.”

Austin, Goldberg & Batista Returning To WWE: “I get these Tweets daily, will @steveaustinBSR or @Goldberg ever return to WWE? I’m wondering why those asking don’t Tweet the talents themselves. Not everyone that has had a wrestling career wants to return to the grind. It’s not that glamorous. Same goes for @DaveBautista who’s also building a film career.”

It worked for Austin, it worked for Goldberg, but I’m not Austin or Goldberg—I’m Ryback.”

Goldberg Wants to Wrestle Brock Lesnar At WrestleMania

Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg At WrestleMania 20

Jim Ross was asked on Twitter about the possibility of a match pitting Brock Lesnar against Bill Goldberg at next year’s WrestleMania. Ross responded:

“@Goldberg vs Lesnar at WM29 would be miraculous ie HIGHLY UNLIKELY.”

Goldberg, despite his well-documented negative feelings about WWE and specifically company head Vince McMahon over the years, says he’s interested in the bout. He wrote Friday,

“……I’d do it.”

Goldberg last competed for WWE at WrestleMania XX in a match against Lesnar with “Stone Cold” Steve Austin serving as special guest referee. The match garnered a hostile reaction from the audience due to knowledge that both competitors were leaving the promotion. After Goldberg defeated Lesnar, both wrestlers were laid out with Stone Cold Stunners.

Meanwhile, Goldberg still apparently views Chris Jericho in a negative light nine years after the two last worked together. A fan wrote to the former wrestling champion Monday, “Y2J sucks u should have came out there & speared him.” Big Bill responded:

“Would have been my pleasure.”

Gillberg Says Goldberg Hates Him & Wanted To Kill Him

Duane "Gillberg" Gill

Former WWE superstar Duane Gill, best known for his run as the Bill Goldberg parody character “Gillberg”, recently told Arda Ocal and Jimmy Korderas of Thescore.com that Bill Goldberg hated him.

If Bill Goldberg ever tried to get in contact with him while he was doing the “Gillberg” gimmick in WWE. Also speaking about when he did the segment with The Rock and Goldberg on an episode of Raw in 2003 on the segment “Rock Concert II”: “Goldberg hates my guts. He wanted to kill me. I remember the night I did meet him, the night we did The Rock Concert were I was dancing all the ring and all. They just wanted me to just stand there and tap my foot. So I had to explain to Mr. McMahon about what I wanted to do and he started laughing his ass off and he goes, “lets do it (laughs).”

On his wrestling school “Gillberg’s Pro Wrestling Academy.” What makes his wrestling school so successful that it will branch to multiple locations. What made his decision for him to branch out the wrestling school: “We have yet to advertise and were packed. We’re loaded with students. I would imagine the article on WWE.com “Where are they now” had a lot to do with helping me there. I just want to take it to the next level. I just wanna teach the way we teach. I teach old school ways. It’s taught proper and it’s really good.”

How long did he feel that the “Gillberg” character in WWE would last the first time he did when he wrestled Luna Vachon on an episode of Raw on the debut of the character; explains how much of a response he got from the WWE crew backstage: “It was actually supposed to be a one night deal. When I came back through the curtian, I got the highest honor I ever received in pro wrestling. When I came through that curtain, every McMahon, every writer, producer, boys, everybody in the back that was working was standing there clapping, and had tears in there eyes cause they were laughing so hard. That was the highest honor I ever got.”

His thoughts on working for WWE without being under contract with WWE for almost 10 years. Did he feel that if he never got anything from WWE, would he have thought about pursuing other interest in his life: “I’m a mark. I love professional wrestling, and to be honest with you, I love the WWE. Let me put it to you this way, I didn’t give a crap what I was doing, there were times where I wrestled four or five times a night. I didn’t care man. I was there. I was in the locker room with Hulk Hogan, Brutus Beefcake, Jake The Snake, Macho Man. I went to the bar, I sat down to have drinks with them, and I got to rub shoulders with the best of the best. To me it was everything.”

Check out this video of when Goldberg and Gillberg went face-to-face on WWE RAW:

Crimson Says He’s Not Trying To Be Like Goldberg

Crimson appeared on Monday Night Mayhem, which airs every Monday night at 7:00 p.m. via MondayNightMayhem.com. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

What he has learned from being with TNA this past year, the early success he has received, and why he was not intimidated about being “thrown into the mix pretty quickly”: “It’s been a huge year thus far. When I was signed, I was thrown right into the mix pretty quickly, and things took off very soon. I’m always ready for anything and can adapt to anything. I’m trying to do the best I can. The fact is that I was put into a main spot, and in my opinion, I think I have been doing fairly well. I don’t like to brag as far as as the feedback goes. From the people behind the scenes, I’ve handled everything pretty well.”

Why he has a firm belief in looking to improve/better himself as his TNA career progresses and what he feels he needs to work on in order to quiet his critics: “I’m not going to sit here, and point out my flaws, and what I think I’m doing wrong, but there is always room for improvement and always a way to better yourself. It’s just taking small critics from agents, and producers, and the people that really matter, applying it and making yourself better. I see a lot of the feedback from people, and a lot of times one person’s opinion sometimes overshadows facts. The fact is I did the dark matches, I did the ‘Gut Check,’ and obviously impressed the right people, and got myself to where I am today. That’s fact.”

His reaction to the comparisons between himself and Goldberg (as a result of his recent undefeated streak in TNA) and why he wants to finally put to rest the recent rumors of heat between the two: “There’s no hostility between me and Goldberg. I don’t follow Goldberg on Twitter. I don’t pay attention to Bill Goldberg these days. People came to me calling me a ‘Poor Man’s Goldberg,’ and he was retweeting the fans’ stuff basically saying the same thing. It’s sad that some of the simple-minded people out there, because of an undefeated streak, automatically assume that I trying to be Bill Goldberg, which I’m not. The fact that I’m an intense, and maybe some of my in-ring style, and because I break out a spear every so often (which hundreds of wrestlers do), it makes me out to be Bill Goldberg. Bottom line, I’m not trying to be Bill Goldberg.”

Regal Retirement Update, Goldberg Not Wrestling Batista

Last week WWE star William Regal made headlines when it was reported that he wants to become the first British World Heavyweight champion in WWE history prior to retiring.

Regarding his retirement, William Regal wrote the following on Twitter:

“Let me make this very clear.I have not once said that I’m going to retire.I’ve said I don’t know how long I have left.Big difference.

“Having had a decent brake from in ring I am feeling ready to go for a while. But the fact is that’s down to two things. One is how long my body holds out and two is if people want me to wrestle.”

– Despite rumors that Bill Goldberg would be facing former WWE Champion Dave Batista upon returning to the ring in October, Goldberg has shot down those rumors on Twitter.

It is unknown at this time who Goldberg will be facing when he returns to the ring in Africa, but we do know that the shows are set to kick off in early October and end by October 12th.
