Winner: Bray Wyatt

Reaction: It was hard to get invested into this match due to the horrible build it had. Having said that, this was a pretty big victory for Bray Wyatt but it all depends on what WWE does with his character from here. Hopefully, they learned from their mistakes with his WWE Championship run and this is the beginning of Wyatt being built back up again.

Winner: Big Cass

Reaction: Enzo cut another excellent promo before this match. The future is bright for Big Cass, but Enzo can be very successful as well if placed in the right role. I think Enzo would be an excellent manager or in some kind of speaking role in WWE. Amore can hold his own in the ring but I just don’t see him being a big part of their future in the ring. He is far too talented to simply become a jobber and a comedy act on RAW. This match went exactly how I thought it would.

Reaction: This match started out slow but became wildly entertaining during the last 15 minutes or so. I really enjoyed this match and it will be one I will definitely make sure to re-watch in the near future. I have no idea how it happened, but Matt Hardy somehow got busted open during this match. There were just so many cool spots in this match, reading a recap doesn’t do it justice. It is definitely worth checking out on the WWE Network if you missed it.

Winner & Still Intercontinental Champion: The Miz

Reaction: Not only was this the worst match of the night, the crowd reaction was very alarming. There was quite literally no energy in the arena for this match and that is a shame given that it was an Intercontinental Championship match. One can only hope that this marks the end of this feud. Ambrose got absolutely screwed in this match but I really have no interest in seeing him try to get his revenge on future episodes of RAW.

Winner: Braun Strowman

Reaction: This was just awesome. Strowman and Reigns work very well together and I hope this feud continues for a long time. It will be interesting to see who will face the Universal Champion at SummerSlam. Time will tell if Strowman will be written off TV for a bit. I’m also very interested to see where Roman Reigns’ character goes from here. This wasn’t the actions of someone who is supposed to be a fan-favorite. The announcers played this up as Roman Reigns taking things way too far. If this is a start of a heel turn, I’m all in. I thought this was very well done.

The jaws of life were brought out and Angle had a very concerned look on his face as the ambulance was ripped open. Angle started praying as the door was pried open. Strowman was shown with blood on his elbow as firefighters tried to load Braun onto the stretcher. Strowman got to his feet and started walking away in pain. Braun had blood all over his face and told everyone to leave him alone.

Winner & Still Universal Champion: Brock Lesnar

Reaction: Samoa Joe put up a fight but Brock Lesnar was able to retain. This was a solid match and I hope we get to see it again in the future. Overall, I thought Great Balls of Fire was a very good show. The RAW Tag Team Championship Match and the Ambulance Match were the highlights for me. For the first time in a long time, I am really looking forward to tomorrow night’s episode of RAW. I’m intrigued as to what is going to happen next in the Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns storyline.

Cesaro gets involved and all four men brawl out to ringside. Back in the ring, Cesaro works over Jeff and keeps him away from tagging in Matt. Cesaro hits a gut-wrench suplex on Jeff for a two count, before tagging in Sheamus who hits a flying knee drop off the middle rope. Cesaro and Sheamus hit a double-team White Noise on Jeff for the three count and the second fall of the match. The score is now 2-0 for Cesaro and Sheamus. Matt knocks Cesaro and Sheamus both out to ringside, then Jeff launches off of Matt’s back for a Poetry In Motion suicide dive onto Cesaro and Sheamus at ringside. Matt grabs Sheamus, but then Cesaro shoves Matt from behind into the ring post. This leads to Sheamus and Cesaro scoring another fall, due to a countout. Matt is selling the shot to the head and he wobbles back in the ring. Sheamus knees Matt then tags in Cesaro who hits a vertical suplex. Sheamus tags in and they both stomp on Matt. Matt reverses an uppercut into a crucifix pin, and Jeff tags in and pins Cesaro’s legs down for the three count. The score is now 3-2 in favor of Cesaro and Sheamus. Cesaro and Sheamus go for the double-team White Noise on Jeff, but Matt knocks Cesaro off the ropes. Jeff hits an inverted atomic drop, a leg drop and a dropkick on Sheamus for a two count. Matt tags in and hits a tornado DDT on Sheamus for a two count. Cesaro runs in and Matt fights him off, then Sheamus throws Matt into the turnbuckle from behind. Cesaro pulls Sheamus out to ringside, so Jeff changes direction and hits a splash off the top down onto Cesaro and Sheamus at ringside. Jeff throws Sheamus inside then goes back up top. Matt Hardy also goes up top on the other side of the ring, and they hit a double team splash/elbow drop. Jeff pins but Cesaro breaks the pin. Matt tags in and we see that he’s bleeding heavily, I believe from an elbow he took from Cesaro at ringside earlier. Sheamus goes for a running powerslam on Matt but Matt escapes and clotheslines Sheamus. Jeff gets the blind tag and hits a Swanton Bomb on Sheamus, but then Cesaro runs in and rolls up Jeff for the three count. There are only 10 seconds left, and Cesaro runs outside. Jeff chases Cesaro back in the ring and hits the Twist of Fate then pins, but the timer runs out as the referee counts 2. The ref stops counting and declares Sheamus and Cesaro the winners. Sheamus and Cesaro celebrate with their Tag Titles up the ramp while a guy in a black shirt towels the blood off of Matt in the ring.

Sasha Banks def. Alexa Bliss (c) via countout: Alexa Bliss’ RAW Women’s Title is on the line in this one. Banks hits a dropkick on Bliss early on that sends the Champion rolling outside. The Miz (c) def. Dean Ambrose: The Intercontinental Title is on the line in this one. Maryse, Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas come out with The Miz. Ambrose rolls to the outside before he even touches the Miz so he can hit Axel with some elbows to the face. Ambrose rolls back in the ring and lays into Miz with punches, chops and kicks. Back in the ring, Ambrose reverses a Skull Crushing Finale into a Dirty Deeds, but Maryse pulls Miz’s foot onto the bottom rope to break the pin and the ref didn’t see her. Miz rolls outside and Ambrose hits a suicide dive on him. Axel gets on the apron, then Dallas hops up and hits Ambrose behind the ref’s back. Miz follows up with the Skull Crushing Finale for the win.

Braun Strowman def. Roman Reigns: This one is an Ambulance Match, where the goal is to throw your opponent in the ambulance by the stage and close the door. Strowman overpowers Reigns early on and throws him across the ring, but Reigns fights back with right hands. Reigns runs off the ropes and Strowman drops him with a clothesline, then hits two splashes on Reigns in the corner. The fight spills to the outside where Strowman throws Reigns into the ring post, then hits Reigns with the ring steps. Roman dodges a shot from Strowman and Strowman crashes into the ring post. Reigns then backs up full-speed into the back of an 18-wheeler with Strowman still in the back of the ambulance. Kurt Angle walks in and yells for someone to call 911. Jamie Noble tries to pry the ambulance door open but has no luck.

– Cole tells us that an impromptu match is about to take place while Strowman is still trapped in the ambulance backstage.

Heath Slater def. Curt Hawkins: While Slater and Hawkins go back and forth in the ring we hear sirens coming from the back. We cut to the backstage area where fire trucks pull into the arena. Kurt Angle leads the crew over to the wrecked ambulance. We hear the bell ring and the ring announcer declares Slater the winner, but we don’t see it. The firemen use the Jaws of Life to open the ambulance, then EMTs step inside and see Strowman with blood on his arms. Strowman fights off the EMTs and stumbles into the arena. We see some more angles of the ambulance crash.

Edge makes fun of Great Balls of Fire PPV name and logo

On the latest episode of E&C’s Pod of Awesomeness, Edge and Christian broke down tonight’s Great Balls of Fire PPV. During the discussion, Edge decided to give his thoughts on the Great Balls of Fire PPV name and it’s interesting looking logo. Here is what Edge said about Great Balls of Fire:

“Before we go any further for how stoked I am for Joe vs. Brock, I gotta mention again this pay-per-view name is just brutal. I mean, come on. It’s a great song, I’m a fan of Jerry Lee Lewis, I appreciate everything he did, dancing on pianos, setting them on fire, he was a trendsetter, he was a groundbreaker; that song was from the 50s, I don’t know if it needs to be the name of a pay-per-view. I picture just flaming testicles now when I hear that. And then when you see the logo for it it just looks like flaming testicles.”

Betting Odds For Sunday’s Great Balls Of Fire PPV

With just days to go until this weekend’s WWE Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view, we’ve got an updated look at the current betting odds for each match.

Courtesy of BetWrestling.com (via PaddyPower), Brock Lesnar has a 94% chance of retaining the Universal Championship in his match against Samoa Joe. Things could certainly change by Sunday as the “smart money” comes in, but at this time, it’s not looking great for Samoa Joe’s chances. Here’s the full list:

  • WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is a strong favorite (-1667) to retain against Samoa Joe (+700)
  • Ambulance Match: Roman Reigns is favored (-137) to defeat Braun Strowman (+100)
  • RAW Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss is the favorite (-278) to retain against Sasha Banks (+170)
  • Intercontinental Champion The Miz is favored (-278) to defeat Dean Ambrose (+170)
  • Matt and Jeff Hardy are -189 favorites to capture the RAW Tag Team Championships from Cesaro and Sheamus (+125)
  • Bray Wyatt is the favorite (-175) to defeat Seth Rollins (+125)
  • Big Cass is the favorite (-250) to defeat Enzo Amore (+175)

WWE Great Balls Of Fire 2017 Preview & Predictions

Kickoff Show:

Cruiserweight Championship Match: Neville (c) vs Akira Tozawa

neville tozawa great balls of fire

Neville has dominated the Cruiserweight division for months now and I expect that to continue after Great Balls of Fire. Tozawa recently joined the Titus Brand and is an excellent in-ring performer. He may capture the Cruiserweight Championship in the future, but it will not happen this Sunday. Predicted winner: Neville

Main Card:

Big Cass vs Enzo Amore

enzo cass great balls of fire

Big Cass turned his back on his former tag team partner a couple of weeks ago. He then attacked Enzo again the following week after pretending to be sorry for his actions. Enzo Amore got some revenge on this past Monday’s episode of RAW and attacked Cass backstage. Big Cass is the Superstar with the brightest future and he absolutely demolish Enzo in this match: Predicted winner: Big Cass

RAW Tag Team Championship 30-Minute Iron Man Match: Sheamus & Cesaro (c) vs The Hardy Boyz

sheamus cesaro hardy boyz great balls of fire

Sheamus and Cesaro captured the titles from The Hardys in a Steel Cage Match last month at Extreme Rules. Sheamus is reportedly taking some time off in August for film “The Buddy Games”, a WWE Studios film. Based off of that, one would assume that The Hardys will once again become the RAW Tag Team Champions. It will be interesting to see who WWE will come up with for The Hardys to feud with heading into SummerSlam next month. Predicted winners & new RAW Tag Team Champions: The Hardy Boyz

Intercontinental Championship Match: The Miz (c) vs Dean Ambrose

the miz dean ambrose great balls of fire

This feud has involved grandfather clocks, adults dressed in bear costumes and The Miz forming a new entourage. I expect Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas to help out their new leader in this match and The Miz will retain his title. After Great Balls of Fire, it is time for both Ambrose and The Miz to go in a different direction and feud with other Superstars. Predicted winner: The Miz

Seth Rollins vs Bray Wyatt

seth rollins bray wyatt great balls of fire

Bray Wyatt is back to referring to himself as a god on RAW every week. He has been claiming that he is inside Rollins’ mind and that he will reveal Rollins’ true self at Great Balls of Fire. I honestly have no idea what that could possibly mean, but I just expect Wyatt to be victorious in this match. Wyatt will not simply outwrestle Rollins in this match, Wyatt is usually not allowed to just win a match. The lights will go out in the arena and something bizarre will happen. This will lead to Rollins being distracted and Wyatt hitting the Sister Abigail for the victory. Predicted winner: Bray Wyatt

RAW Women’s Championship Match: Alexa Bliss (c) vs Sasha Banks

alexa bliss sasha banks great balls of fire

Sasha Banks has gotten the better of Alexa Bliss in recent weeks on RAW. Banks earned this title shot by winning a Gauntlet Match and forcing Nia Jax to submit via the Bank Statement in the final round. Bliss will steal this match on Sunday, but Banks will get another shot at the title at SummerSlam. Predicted winner: Alexa Bliss

Ambulance Match: Braun Strowman vs Roman Reigns

roman reigns braun strowman great balls of fire

I have really enjoyed the build to this match. Reigns and Strowman work very well together and this may wind up being the match of the night. This is a tough match to call because I could easily see both Superstars winning here. I think Strowman will get the win on Sunday and start going after Lesnar for the Universal Championship. Roman Reigns could then enter a feud with Samoa Joe. You could easily have Reigns win and face Lesnar at SummerSlam and put Strowman in a feud with Joe. Both options sound great to me, but Strowman has a ton of momentum right now and fans want to see him in the main-event. Predicted winner: Braun Strowman

Universal Championship Match: Brock Lesnar (c) vs Samoa Joe

samoa joe brock lesnar great balls of fire

I would love to see Samoa Joe win this match and have the Universal Championship featured weekly on RAW. Samoa Joe has been great in this feud and has been able to come across as a legitimate threat to Brock Lesnar. I highly doubt that WWE would have Lesnar lose the title at Great Balls of Fire with a massive show like SummerSlam around the corner. I don’t think this will be a typical Brock Lesnar match. I envision this match getting some time and Joe putting up a fight. However, Lesnar will retain after a hard fought battle. Predicted winner: Brock Lesnar

Jerry Lawler: “Great Balls of Fire” Singer Claimed Copyright Infringement

On the latest episode of his “Dinner with the King” podcast, Jerry Lawler mentioned WWE needed to make an arrangement with Jerry Lee Lewis over the “Great Balls of Fire” PPV name.

While WWE has shied away from potential legal action from both Ring of Honor and Anthem Sports and Entertainment recently, they were able to successful negotiate an arrangement with Lewis.

Jerry Lawler’s Comments on “Great Balls of Fire”

On Great Balls of Fire Name:

It’s ‘Great Balls of FIRE’ not ‘Great BALLS of Fire’. You put the emphasis on the ‘Fire’, not on ‘Balls'”

On Jerry Lee Lewis Legal Action:

“My personal attorney here in Memphis, is Joe Barton, good friend of mine and attorney. I got a phone call from Joe a few weeks ago, and Joe also represents Jerry Lee Lewis. ‘Hey Jerry do you happen to know who I’d contact at the WWE about copyright infringement?’ and I was like ‘what are you talking about?’

‘Well, we understand that they’re doing a PPV called ‘Great Balls of Fire’ and Jerry Lee has that phrase trademarked. He has ever since they recorded the song’.

Lawler said attorney contacted WWE and now they are not only using the name but also the song as well. You can hear the whole podcast here.

WWE Hypes Brock Lesnar’s Return To RAW Next Week

Last night on RAW, the newly crowned #1 contender Samoa Joe brutally attacked Brock Lesnar’s advocate, Paul Heyman. Samoa Joe locked in the Coquina Clutch until Heyman passed out in the middle of the ring.

During the final hour of last night’s RAW, Paul Heyman received a call backstage from Brock Lesnar. Heyman said that Lesnar should show up on RAW next week and confront Samoa Joe.

WWE is currently hyping Lesnar’s return to RAW next week and posted the following on their website:

Samoa Joe showed no fear when he trapped Paul Heyman in the Coquina Clutch on Raw, but next Monday night, he’ll have to answer to Universal Champion Brock Lesnar.

Lesnar hasn’t been seen on Raw since the night after he captured Team Red’s most prestigious prize from Goldberg at WrestleMania 33, but now that he has a No. 1 contender in The Samoan Submission Machine — who painfully attacked Lesnar’s advocate this week — The Beast Incarnate has decided to resurface. We might be weeks away from Joe and Lesnar’s Universal Title clash at the WWE Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view, but things are already heating up.

What will happen when Lesnar and Joe meet under the same roof next Monday night? Find out by tuning in to Raw at 8/7 C on USA Network.

Brock Lesnar is set to defend his Universal Championship against Samoa Joe at WWE Great Balls of Fire on July 9th. WWE released the following promo for the PPV yesterday:

Samoa Joe Earns Title Shot Against Lesnar At Great Balls Of Fire

Samoa Joe is the new #1 contender to Brock Lesnar’s RAW Universal Championship after winning the Fatal 5 Way main event of Sunday’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view.

Joe defeated Seth Rollins, Roman Reigns, Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt to earn the shot at Lesnar, which is scheduled for next month’s Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view.

On the RAW Talk post-show that took place after Extreme Rules, Joe says he’s fully prepared for his ‘dream match’ with the Beast Incarnate.

It’s been a quick rise to the top for Joe, who made his main roster debut back in January as the hired gun of Triple H. Brock Lesnar will have his hands full in his first title defense, as Joe is one of the most physical athletes on the RAW roster.

Great Balls of Fire takes place on Sunday, July 9th from Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX. WWE released this promo video hyping the show:

New Logo For July’s WWE Great Balls of Fire PPV

In July, the RAW brand will play host to the first-ever Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view. The event takes place on Sunday, July 9th from Dallas, Texas. On Monday, the American Airlines Center unveiled a new logo for the oddly-titled event.

This was the original logo:

Great Balls of Fire

Great Balls of Fire will see the first title defense of RAW Universal Champion Brock Lesnar, who defeated Goldberg at WrestleMania to capture the gold. Braun Strowman had been rumored for Lesnar’s opponent at ‘Great Balls’ but WWE just reported that Strowman will be out for up to 6 months after undergoing elbow surgery last week.

Finn Balor or Seth Rollins are now the most likely Superstars to receive the championship opportunity against Lesnar.

Brock Lesnar Advertised For More Upcoming RAW Tapings

RAW Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is being advertised for two upcoming episodes of WWE RAW.

WWE recently announced that Lesnar’s first Universal Championship title defense will take place at the new Great Balls of Fire pay-per-view on Sunday, July 9th. It’s been rumored that Braun Strowman would be Lesnar’s opponent, but Strowman is currently out of action with an elbow injury that will require surgery. Lesnar is expected to work with Finn Balor or Seth Rollins at Great Balls of Fire if Braun Strowman is not back by then.

In the lead-up to Great Balls of Fire, Brock Lesnar will be appearing on the June 26th edition of RAW from Los Angeles and the July 3rd episode from Phoenix, Arizona. We’ll see if Lesnar resurfaces on WWE television before June 26th, but as of this writing, that’s his next scheduled TV appearance.

WWE Great Balls of Fire PPV Announced: Brock Lesnar’s First Title Defense

Great Balls of Fire PPV

Unless the verified social media accounts from Dallas’ American Airlines Centre are trolling everyone for some reason, this does appear to be the name of the new July PPV.

**Update: WWE has now confirmed the new PPV name on their event listings page

It looks as though “GB of F” will be a Raw-exlusive PPV. As it stands currently, the plan is to limit co-branded shows to the big 4 PPVs.
