Mick Foley Comments On Chyna Getting In The WWE Hall Of Fame

For those that witnessed Monday Night Raw last night, the WWE opened the show with a graphic of Chyna under complete silence. Then, nearly two-thirds into the show, the WWE finally aired a tribute video to Chyna, which was very-well done.

The response from the WWE Universe was welcomed, especially after the flack the company got for not making Chyna’s recovery a priority in the darker days of her life.

After complaints about how the WWE wouldn’t even mention Chyna, the new conversations is beginning Chyna not getting into the WWE Hall of Fame. While that’s still several months away, it’s only a hot topic right now because she passed away.

While being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame is a huge honor, it doesn’t define the wrestler. That’s what Mick Foley said on his Facebook page when asked if Chyna should be inducted next year.

“Joanie”, I said. “Being inducted into the Hall of Fame was one of the greatest nights of my life – but it doesn’t define me. Don’t let it define you. You’re a legend in our business, no one can ever take away from you the things you’ve done. Don’t let anyone have the power to tell you whether or not your career was worthy of the Hall of Fame. It was! There will never be another Chyna”

So next year, when the announcements are made, if Chyna is not an inductee, don’t be sad. The real Hall of Fame is inside all of us. It’s a Hall of Fame based on the way superstars made us feel, the smiles they produced, the memories they created for us, the legacies they forged that will stand the test of time. By that standard, Joanie Laurer – Chyna; the 9th Wonder of the World was inducted into the Hall that really matters – our hall of memories – a long, long time ago.

Is the Hardcore Legend right? As an inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame, he has every right to comment on this situation.

Whether Chyna gets inducted or not, that doesn’t take away from the impact she had on the WWE, as well as women in pro wrestling.

Sting Still Wants To Face Taker, And Isn’t Shy About Telling Everyone

During a WWE media event for Wrestlemania, Sting again, denied the rumors of him retiring, and reiterated his wishes for a match with the Undertaker.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. Since the TMZ story broke about Sting retiring, he has on multiple occasions, since then, denied the report. Sting is set to enter the WWE Hall Of Fame this Saturday on The WWE Network.

WWE Hall Of Fame Apparently Adding Legacy Award This Saturday?

It’s a bit strange that this wasn’t officially announced yet, but it’s hard to argue with the evidence: Dave Meltzer is reporting at F4WOnline.com that it looks like WWE may have found a way to quickly get some major historical figures into their hall of fame at this Saturday night’s induction ceremony. A WWE Hall of Fame class of 2016 shirt being sold at the WrestleMania store at AT&T Stadium includes not just the announced inductees, but also a “WWE Legacy Award” with Ed “Strangler” Lewis, Frank Gotch, George Hackenschmidt, Lou Thesz, Mildred Burke, Pat O’Connor, and “Sailor” Art Thomas all listed under that heading.

As of this writing, WWE has not said anything else about the new Legacy Award. The obvious inference, though, is that the company is addressing the long-held criticism that they won’t ever put in a number of deserving inductees due to the unofficial “quota” on deceased inductees for each year’s ceremony. This would be a simple way to solve that problem: Induct several missing historical figures each year as a group. If there’s something else to it, who knows? But it’s hard to think of any alternative scenario besides the one outlined here.

While the pre-television era wrestlers included here (Lewis, Gotch, and Hackenschmidt; Thesz and Burke straddled both eras) were never really considered realistic candidates to be inducted. Thesz not being in had been controversial for many years. It goes a bit deeper than that, though: When he and Wahoo McDaniel passed away within two weeks of each other in April 2002, neither death was acknowledged on WWE programming. The uproar online was significant enough that WWE eventually ran a quick feature honoring both. Given the alleged “death quota,” nobody ever really expected him to go in the Hall of Fame, especially after when happened in the first place when he passed away.

Thesz was in the first class of the WCW Hall of Fame, but in the 15 years since WWE bought WCW and the 12 years since the WWE Hall of Fame was restarted, WWE never adopted WCW’s hall as their own. That would have been a quick way to add Thesz and McDaniel, among others.

One would think that the Legacy Award will be officially announced on this week’s edition of SmackDown. We should know that any moment now, as the show has already aired in Canada. If it’s not announced on SmackDown, this may just be a small gesture that WWE is making without a lot of fanfare.

WWE 2K16 Apparently Getting The Tokyo Dome In Next DLC Pack

At a couple different points tonight, the official WWE Games Twitter account tweeted these animated GIFs to hype Tuesday’s release of the Hall of Fame downloadable content pack for WWE 2K16, which is out this Tuesday:

It was already known that 1991 versions of Ric Flair and Tatsumi Fujinami plus a relevant match replay mode were in the Hall of Fame pack, but they had two matches that year. It seemed like it made more sense for 2K to base it off their match from Superbrawl in St. Petersburg, Florida, but from the above footage, it looks like they didn’t. Instead, 2K picked the OTHER Flair-Fujinami match, from the NJPW Tokyo Dome show that year, which is known as both WCW Japan Supershow and NJPW Starrcade ’91 In The Tokyo Dome. So that means that the arena that comes in the pack is an ersatz Tokyo Dome, faithfully recreated by 2K Sports. They can’t call it that (and I don’t believe WWE games ever name real venues), but 2K does a great job with the presentation of the arenas and this should be no exception.

Here’s the full lineup for the DLC pack, which, if this is any indication, should also include at least two more WCW arenas and some early ’90s WWF arenas along with period appropriate versions of the wrestlers:

  • “Macho Man” Randy Savage vs. Jake “The Snake” Roberts
  • Rikishi vs. The Rock
  • Alundra Blayze vs. Paige
  • Larry Zbyszko and Arn Anderson vs. Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat and Dustin Rhodes
  • Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Ric Flair
  • The Bushwhackers (Butch Miller and Luke Williams) vs. The Natural Disasters (Typhoon and Earthquake)
  • The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall) vs. Harlem Heat (Booker T and Stevie Ray)

More Possible Inductees For The 2016 WWE Hall of Fame Ceremony

The latest rumored names to be inducted at the 2016 WWE Hall of Fame include former WWE women’s champion Jacqueline, The Godfather, JBL, Stan Hansen, and Regis Philbin. PWInsider reports that there is also still talk of The Fabolous Freebirds (Michael “PS” Hayes, Buddy Roberts, Jimmy Garvin, & Terry Gordy).

So far Sting is currently the only confirmed inductee for the ceremony, which takes place on WrestleMania 32 weekend.

On Monday’s RAW, JBL introduced a new video package highlighting Sting’s career to make his Hall of Fame induction announcement official. It was first announced by WWE.com on Monday afternoon that Sting was the first inductee in the class of 2016.

This year’s WWE Hall of Fame ceremony takes place the day before WrestleMania 32, April 2nd, at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, TX. Tickets will go on sale Friday, January 15th at 10 AM ET/9 AM CT.

Don’t expect to see the Stinger step back into the ring any time soon though. In December, Sting revealed on Ric Flair’s podcast that he injured his neck during his match against Seth Rollins at Night of Champions and requires surgery.

Randy Savage Reportedly Set For WWE Hall of Fame Induction, Nikki Bella Reacts To Raw

– There has been a lot of talk behind the scenes in WWE over the past couple weeks regarding “Macho Man” Randy Savage being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year.

During an interview with Steve Austin last month on the WWE Network, WWE Chairman and chief executive officer Vince McMahon said that the legendary wrestler will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. Although McMahon revealed during the podcast that Savage will receive an induction at some point, he did not say exactly when the former WWE Champion will receive the honor.

– As seen last night on Raw, Natalya rode a distraction from Paige and defeated Nikki Bella in a reverse of last week’s result, Paige then ran to her Total Divas castmate’s aid and saved Natalya from an after-the-bell ambush by the Divas Champion. Tonight on WWE Main Event, Paige will square off with Nikki in a non-title match. Following last night’s events, Nikki offered her thoughts via Instagram.

She wrote, “As I have had time to think.. To get lost in my thoughts.. Last night on RAW was a disgrace. A kick in the face is a lack of respect. It’s a dishonor to your champion, to your Queen. If you don’t have the WWE Network I suggest you get it bc tonight I will destroy PAIGES of what I thought was my next chapter. Main Event just got heated up. It just got FEARLESS! #FearlessNikki #MainEvent #RackAttack @wwe.”

Video: Hulk Hogan Says He’s Training To Main Event WrestleMania

WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan continues to tease that he’s gearing up for a match at WrestleMania 31 on March 29, 2015. WWE hosted a WrestleMania 31 kickoff event on Friday night at Levi’s Stadium in California, with Hogan taking questions from the fans in attendance.

When asked by a fan if we’ll see Hogan wrestle again, he jumped right into hype mode, stating that he’s training like he’s got a WWE title match coming up, brother.

“Here’s the deal, brother. A very wise man once told me a long time ago – and that wise man was Vince McMahon – and he said, ‘Never say never.’ Right now, I’m back on my feet. I had a bunch of surgeries, a bunch of ‘whoa is me’ stuff, got back on my feet, and then training like I’m training for the WWE Title right now.

“It could happen at any time. Whether it’s a retirement match, whether it’s the beginning of the run, whether it’s a WWE Title spot – a chance to win the title. I’m getting ready like I’m the main event in this place. So, never say never, brother. You never know what’s going to happen.”

Jim Ross Blog: Lita’s WWE HOF Induction, Roman Reigns, Monday’s RAW

The following are highlights from the latest online blog by WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross:

On last night’s RAW: “Raw can be best described by yours truly as a solid show, not spectacular, but serviceable over the three hour ‘cruise.'”

“Some of the in ring product was good and will mean more with the same level of bouts in the future if the rivalries and the skill sets of the talents continue to be addressed.”

“Appears to be very obvious that many talents need to kick their way out of their comfort zones and tweak a few wrinkles of their in ring presentation. The same sequencing week after week doesn’t make one special.”

    “It makes them the same.”

“The same is not wrestling code talk for ‘special.'”

On Roman Reigns: “The follow up on Roman Reigns success at the Royal Rumble was timely. Newly minted, potential main eventers cannot grow on an every other week basis. Reigns needs his weekly moments on RAW to eventually arrive at the Promised Land including a ‘moment’ at WM30. Don’t over think it…Reigns needs to leave NOLA with an enhanced perception. Case closed…per the late Ernie Ladd.”

On The Usos: “WWE has done a really nice job of rehabilitating the TV image of the Usos who seem poised to win the Tag Titles sooner than later. Just a year ago the WWE Tag Team scene was flaccid but it’s making a nice comeback.”

On John Cena vs. Randy Orton: “Admire Orton and Cena working hard and telling a viable story in their main event in a 20+ minute main event. I like these longer main events and even though these two have wrestled countless times, I felt that they had a solid, show closing bout. At the end of the night, I am not quite sure how much momentum WWE World Champion Orton is going to have going into the Elimination Chamber and to a lesser degree for WM30 which may be the game plan.”

On Lita’s Hall Of Fame Induction: “Very proud of Amy Dumas aka Lita who will be inducted in the WWE HOF class of 2014 in NOLA the night before WM30. I had heard this info leaded from WWE a couple of weeks ago but did not want to contribute to spoiling the surprise. I did vividly remember meeting Amy in my Stamford office years ago when she came in for a job interview. She had been bold and brave enough to live alone in Mexico to train and develop a different skill set from other females and she eventually became one of WWE’s biggest stars, male or female, during my time in talent relations. There;s a funny story about her less than dainty shoulder tattoo that played into her job interview that I tell on our RINGSIDE shows.”

HHH & Michael Cole Interview: Roberts/HOF, Lesnar’s Demands, Steel Cage Match

WWE has added the latest sit-down interview between Triple H and Michael Cole. In the interview, “The Game” discusses a number of current WWE-related topics.

HHH spoke about Paul Heyman’s demands from Monday’s RAW that his “client” Brock Lesnar be given a title shot or number one contender match. Triple H noted Lesnar must earn his shot like everyone else.

Hunter announced Cody Rhodes and Goldust vs. The New Age Outlaws in a steel cage match for next Monday’s RAW, a match that we already reported earlier today.

Triple H also spoke about Jake “The Snake” Roberts being announced as a 2014 WWE Hall Of Fame inductee. HHH called Roberts one of his personal all-time favorites.
