TNA Cancels Upcoming Tapings Due To Hurricane Helene

TNA has made the executive decision to cancel their upcoming tapings in Spartansburg, SC due to the impact of Hurricane Helene. The company has gone full force in promoting the weekend having The Hardy Boyz doing media rounds this week, but the company released a statement notifying fans that the tapings will not happen.

Due to the catastrophic effects of Hurricane Helene, TNA Wrestling is canceling both shows scheduled for Spartanburg, S.C.

The safety and well-being of our TNA wrestlers, staff, crew and fans are top priority.

TNA will provide an update on refunds for the Spartanburg shows, as well as an update on future/additional shows.

We wish the best to everyone impacted by Hurricane Helene.

TNA joins MLW as the latest promotion to cancel their upcoming weekend events. MLW announced Friday afternoon that they’d not be putting on their show in St. Petersburg, FL on October 4.

Fightful Select has further details on TNA’s cancellation and a potential audible for what they may do regarding their future tapings. The plan for the company was to tape Friday through Tuesday, but TNA crew members who were already on site were experiencing power issues at their hotel. There were several lack of vacancies in the Spartanburg area and many crew members had to charge phones from their car.

TNA is trying to build for their Bound For Glory PPV, and some discussions involve possibly taping at Skyway Studios in Nashville, TN, the same place where they taped during the pandemic. As for what may air this week, the gameplan may involve a “Best Of Bound For Glory” episode.

Several wrestlers expressed their disappointment in not being able to participate in their tapings, including Joe Hendry, Tasha Steelz, AJ Francis and South Carolina’s own Jon Skyler.

Matt Hardy Wants the Hardy Boyz’s Last Match with Legendary Tag-Team

Matt Hardy has big plans for his final-ever match, including facing a WWE Hall of Famer.

Hardy’s wrestling career began in 1992 and has seen Matt hold gold in WWE, TNA/Impact Wrestling, and Ring of Honor.

In April 2020, Hardy made his debut for All Elite Wrestling where he competes to this day.

Retirement

With 30 years in the wrestling business, Matt is fully aware that his days as an active competitor are coming to an end.

Speaking on his ‘Extreme Life’ podcast, Hardy revealed that he wants The Hardy Boyz’ final match to be against Edge & Christian.

“Our rivalry is just so iconic. I feel like that would be a pretty amazing way to end it, having one last match with those guys.”

Matt Hardy.

No Mercy 1999

The Hardys and Edge & Christian faced off countless times in WWE, but perhaps their best-known match took place at No Mercy 1999.

In the finals of the Terri Invitation Tournament (or T.I.T as Jerry Lawler reminded fans on commentary), the two teams faced off in the first tag-team ladder match in WWE history.

With their win, the Hardyz (then known as the New Brood) won $100,000 and the managerial services of Terri Runnels.

In their memoirs, ‘Exist 2 Inspire’ the Hardyz wrote that the four celebrated the match backstage with beers, the first time either Matt or Jeff drank alcohol.

The death-defying spots would cement both teams as ‘legitimate’ in the eyes of fans, with John Powell of SLAM! Wrestling writing at the time that the match overshadowed the Triple H Vs. Steve Austin WWF Title main event.

How Much The Hardy Boyz And Others Were Paid For First-Ever TLC Match

The Hardy Boyz, Edge & Christian, and The Dudley Boyz all made history when they competed in the first-ever Tables, Ladders and Chairs match during the SummerSlam 2000 event.

However, even though all three of these teams put their bodies on the line in this extreme bout, they were paid very little for their effort.

Hall of Famer Mick Foley, who was serving as the on-screen commissioner for WWE at the time recently revealed how much the three teams were paid for the match:

“I was still one of the guys. They fully understood that I wasn’t the commissioner, I’m not actually [in the] office, and I said, ‘How bad was it?’

And when they said $10,000, I was like, ‘You got $10,000 for that?’” recalled Mick Foley, “So I went to Jim [Ross, Head of Talent Relations at the time] on their behalf and petitioned for more money.”

The Hardcore Star revealed that he mentioned the match between The Undertaker and Big Boss Man to Ross. He protested against the fact that Taker made much more for the bout that wasn’t as good.

According to Foley, it felt ‘like a slap’ in the face of the three teams to be paid so little for their hard work. His petition did get them bumped up from there.

The Hardy Boyz Win WWE SmackDown Tag Team Titles

The Hardy Boyz (Jeff & Matt Hardy) are once again back on top of the tag team division.

The brothers are now the SmackDown Tag Team Champions as they defeated The Usos (Jey & Jimmy Uso) on Tuesday’s episode of Smackdown Live in Brooklyn, New York at the Barclays Center.

As a result, they became the first team in history to hold the World Tag Team Titles, WCW Tag Team Titles, RAW Tag Team Titles and now SmackDown Tag Team Titles.

The Usos beat Shane McMahon and The Miz at the WWE Fastlane pay-per-view event from the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio to win the titles back.

It’s possible that WWE gives The Usos a rematch for the straps at the next PPV event under the WWE banner.

WWE presents the Money In The Bank pay-per-view event on Sunday, May 19, 2019 in Hartford, CT at the XL Center that will air on the WWE Network. WWE will be announcing more matches for this show in the coming weeks.

What are your thoughts on The Hardy Boyz (Jeff & Matt Hardy) winning the titles? Was this the right call by WWE officials?

The Usos & Hardy Boyz Tease Title Match

The Usos and the Hardy Boyz appear likely to face each other soon. Matt Hardy noted on Twitter recently that he would be watching the Smackdown tag-team title match at Fastlane closely.

The Usos opened up the main PPV at Fastlane by successfully defending their title against former champions, the Miz and Shane McMahon. After the match, Hardy sent out the following on Twitter.

The Usos offered up the following response:

The Usos vs The Hardy Boyz

The Usos and the Hardy Boyz are two of the most decorated teams in WWE history. Jimmy & Jey Uso have won tag-team gold in WWE on 6 occasions. They are 4x WWE SMackdown tag-team champions, which is the most any team has won the most particular belts. The Usos have also been awarded 2 Slammy Awards for “Tag Team of the Year” in 2014 and 2015.

Matt & Jeff Hardy have won tag-team gold in WWE on 8 occasions. The brothers are 6x WWE/F tag-team champions, 1x Raw tag-team champions, and also won the WCW tag team titles during the WWE vs WCW Invasion angle.

The Hardy Boyz recently reunited on Smackdown. They defeated the Bar on the February 26th episode. The Usos most recently defeated Shane McMahon and the Miz to retain the Smackdown titles at Fastlane.

Jeff Hardy Comments On Matt Hardy’s Retirement

Despite heavy speculation that he is retired, Matt Hardy has recently been hinting at a potential in-ring return. He has previously stated that, despite not having a timetable, a comeback should be “sooner than later.”

Now his brother, Jeff Hardy, has chimed in on the likelihood of his brother returning to competition.

Speaking with WrestlingNews.co, Jeff admitted, “I don’t think he’s really retired.”

When pressed a little further on the subject, he responded: “No, I don’t think that [he’s retired].”

The conversation then turned towards Jeff, where he revealed the worst injury he’s ever suffered. Hardy confessed that the worst injury, by far, was when he had to undergo rotator cuff surgery. He still undergoes physical therapy to ensure he doesn’t cause further injury.

A Surprise Return

Matt and Jeff Hardy returned almost two years ago, making a surprise comeback during WrestleMania 33. They would be inserted into a Fatal-4-Way tag team matchup, eventually coming out the new Raw Tag Team champions.

With that in mind, WWE’s current contracts with the Hardy Boyz is set to expire in a few months around WrestleMania.

With both brothers seemingly wanting to continue their careers, coupled with the advent of new promotions like All Elite Wrestling, could there be a bidding war for Matt and Jeff on the horizon? The two have also wrestled for Ring Of Honor, and with ROH now making big money deals, could they be another promotion interested when their contracts expire?

WWE Worked With Impact Wrestling For Upcoming Project

While the Hardy Boyz gained the majority of their fame while working for WWE, their stint with Impact Wrestling cannot be forgotten especially the work they did as ‘Broken’ Matt Hardy and Brother Nero.

Their bizarre gimmicks garnered a lot of attention when they were first introduced in 2016 and the interest of fans is one of the main reasons why WWE introduced their own version of the Broken Universe on their programming a few months ago.

Although while the company spent time in developing the character on their TV, the saga of the Broken Gimmick is incomplete without telling the story of its origin in Impact Wrestling and it appears that the WWE Officials also believe the same.

WWE Home Video UK recently announced that they have worked with Impact Wrestling for an upcoming Hardy Boyz DVD and for the first time ever a WWE release will feature footage from Impact:

“We can exclusively reveal that WWE has worked with Impact Wrestling on Twist of Fate: Best of the Hardy Boyz. For the first time ever, a WWE DVD release will feature footage from Impact, as part of a candid look at the “Broken Universe”! Out on DVD 30th April!”

As mentioned above, the DVD is set to release on 30th April and it’d be interesting to see what Impact Footage the company has used in it.

Matt Hardy Refers To Jeff Hardy As “Brother Nero”

In the video below, Matt Hardy referred to Jeff Hardy as “Brother Nero”. The Hardys were at an IWC event yesterday in Pittsburgh, PA. The Hardys brought along their Raw Tag Team Championships and thanked WWE for allowing them to attend the IWC event. Matt Hardy cut a promo at the event but once again used a very subdued version of the “broken” gimmick. However, he did refer to Jeff Hardy as “Brother Nero” during the promo.

Karl Anderson Vows To Get Revenge On Hardy Boyz

Karl Anderson took to Twitter to congratulate the returning Hardy Boyz on winning the Raw Tag Team Championships at Wrestlemania 33. The Hardy Boyz defended the titles against Gallows and Anderson the following night on Monday Night Raw. Matt and Jeff Hardy once again got the best of Gallows and Anderson and won the match. Anderson vowed to get revenge in a post on Twitter.

Update on the TNA Contracts of Matt & Jeff Hardy, Drew Galloway

The TNA contacts of “Broken” Matt and Jeff Hardy are expiring very soon if they have not already. Their is a lot of uncertainty surrounding their future with the company.

According to the Wrestling Observer, they have independent bookings scheduled through April and have told promoters that they can’t commit to any shows in May until they figure out what’s next for them.  WWE has expressed interested in bringing the Hardy Boyz back, but they won’t make any offers until they are officially free agents.

Former TNA Champion Drew Galloway contract also expires this month, ahead of the next set of Impact television tapings. Surprisingly, TNA has not offered him a new deal yet.

Another former TNA Champion, Magnus, has been offered a contract to return, but has yet to sign it.

WrestleMania XI-XX: The Top 10 Matches From The Second Decade

With WrestleMania only a week away, we continue our survey of the best matches in the event’s history by looking at the second decade of action. This was an important and transitional decade for the company, as they started the period relying on superstars such as Bret Hart, Diesel, and Shawn Michaels at the top of the card, while ending it with guys such as Triple H, Brock Lesnar, and of course, Steve Austin.

The content of the product also changed dramatically during this time period, with it starting as a family-friendly product during the “new generation” era, and we all know what went on during the Attitude Era after the company shifted focus due to pressure from rival WCW. With that said, here are the ten best matches from this era. Matches are judged based on workrate, in-ring psychology, pre-match build, and historical significance, and a full video of the match is included with each entry.

10. Chris Benoit vs. Kurt Angle vs. Chris Jericho (WrestleMania 2000)

Despite being billed as the greatest thing since electricity, WrestleMania 2000 was basically a bust. One of the few bright spots was the two-fall triple threat match between Benoit, Angle, and Jericho. The stipulation was unique in that both the Intercontinental and European Championships were on the line, with the first fall deciding the former and the second deciding the latter. Angle would go into the match holding both titles, but would unfortunately walk out with neither. Benoit won the first fall with a diving headbutt and pinning Jericho. Jericho would win the second by delivering a Lionsault and pinning Benoit. It featured fast-paced action with a ton of near-falls, and it told a great story by having Angle lose both of his titles without being pinned or forced to submit.

9. Triple H vs. Chris Jericho (WrestleMania X8)

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2d0qox_wwf-wrestlemania-xviii-chris-jericho-vs-hunter-hearst-helmsley_sport

This was the first time Chris Jericho had the opportunity to headline a WrestleMania, and he came into the match aligned with Stephanie McMahon as a heel. It told a great story that featured a thorough build, and eventually ended with The Game winning the Undisputed Championship after hitting the Pedigree.

8. Chris Benoit vs. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels (WrestleMania XX)

These guys were three of the best technical wrestlers in the game at the time. The match was entertaining, there were multiple near-falls, and in the end, the title changed hands after Benoit forced Triple H to tap out to the Crippler Crossface. After the match, Benoit’s best friend Eddie Guerrero came to the ring and the two embraced while confetti rained down from the rafters. It’s of course a little bittersweet due to what happened years later, but it is still an emotional moment and a great match nonetheless.

7. The Rock vs. Hollywood Hulk Hogan (WrestleMania X8)

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2d0qps_wwf-wrestlemania-xviii-the-rock-vs-hollywood-hogan_sport

This match seems to receive a mixed reaction from a lot of fans. In my opinion, it is one of the most entertaining and unpredictable matches in WrestleMania history, largely due to the crowd reaction. Going into the match, The Rock was the fan favorite while Hogan was booked as the heel. However, the crowd turned on Rock halfway through the match and started to cheer Hogan. The two improvised from there the match ended with Hogan once again turning face and celebrating with The People’s Champion after going down in defeat.

6. Steve Austin vs. Shawn Michaels (WrestleMania XIV)

Following his match with Bret Hart at the previous WrestleMania, Austin was undoubtedly the top dog in the WWE. It wouldn’t be until this night that he would finally capture his first WWE Championship, however. This wasn’t a technical affair by any means, largely due to Michaels wrestling with a severely injured back. With that said, it was still an entertaining contest that featured great in-ring psychology and one of the best builds of any main event in WrestleMania history due to the involvement of Mike Tyson. Austin would of course go on to win the title and start his run as perhaps the most successful superstar in WWE history.

VIDEO: Matt Hardy Says TLC Matches In WWE Shortened His Career & More

Former WWE Superstar Matt Hardy recently appeared on The Roman Show, where he talked about, among other topics, how the TLC matches he took part in during his WWE run may have shortened his career.

“Whenever human flesh and bone get slammed on steel like ladders or chairs, or tables, all that stuff, TLC’s or cages, the flesh isn’t going to win,” said one-half of the former Hardy Boyz tag-team. Hardy continued, “Those matches beat you up and take a toll. It is what it is. Professional wrestling isn’t ballet. Those were very tough grueling matches. It definitely took a toll on us. They took time off our career I’m sure and they beat us up for many years down the road. With that said, those are the matches that made us famous.”

Things only got worse as each match passed, as Hardy explained the teams felt the need to step things up and out-perform their previous efforts. “That was tough. It was a challenge to overcome the last match. We were innovative.”

The following are highlights of a new interview with Maria Kanellis:

On Triple H: “Anybody that wants to say it is the Yes Movement better also remember who the boss is, and who’s the one making the decisions now. And I think that Triple H doesn’t necessarily get as much credit as he deserves, because he is the on building up that NXT, he’s the one that has made it a hub and place for wrestling to grow and get better and better.”

On CM Punk: “Punk came in, changed everybody’s mind. Then management started listening. Management went, ‘Oh, he know’s how to get over.’ Because he knows the people, because he’s been working in front of the people for 9 years now.”

On Squashing the Feud with the Bella Twins: “I actually and done with that part of my life. I talked to Nikki the other day. We’re cool. Like its funny, I don’t think I knew all the facts. I think people were telling me things that weren’t necessarily true. I wanted to be done with it. So, one day I just texted her and was like, ‘hey, I don’t know what happened, but I’m sorry.’ And she responded back and she’s like ‘I understand, you know things happen.’ She was super cool about it. And we’re done with that. Like, I’m an honest person, and when I find out I’m wrong, I’m wrong.”

On Being Stranded on the Side of the Road, and Being Rescued by the Hardy Boyz: “I got pulled over on the way to a show, and the guy took my car away from me (she did not realize she had a speeding ticket out that had not been paid). Here I was with my rental car and they took it away from me, they said I couldn’t drive. I was like ok, cool. The cop leaves me on the side of the road. Me, my two big bags, and my dog Gemini. Here I am on the side of the road. Here comes the Hardy Boyz! Flying down the highway. I get a phone call, ‘Maria, was that you on the side of the road?’ Yeah, it was me. Matt was on the phone. Matt’s like, ‘We’re coming to get ya!’ I’m like, ‘Ok good!’ Here comes Matt, picks me up, and we keep going. So, The Hardy’s are my angels.”

On Nancy Grace: “The Nancy Grace’s of the world are so behind of the times. Holy crap. And how can you be so disrespectful? I mean, how can you be so rude? Like, here this man comes on to talk about a friend, and then you’re going to do that to him? I mean she’s just an evil, evil woman.”
