MLW Fusion Results & 6 Takeaways (4/25/20)

Major League Wrestling presented a new episode of Fusion this weekend on YouTube and BeIN Sports. The show featured the 5th and 6th matches in the MLW vs AAA Super Series.

The full episode can be viewed in the player below:

MLW Fusion 4/25/20 Quick Results

  1. Caribbean Championship
    Richard Holiday (c) defeated Chessman
  2. Hart Foundation (Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Brian Pillman Jr.) defeated Texano Jr. & Rey Escorpion Jr.

Hart Foundation Give MLW A 4-2 Lead In Super Series

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1254242797139484673

Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Brian Pillman Jr. teamed up for the first time in many months this week. They took the early advantage in their match against Texano and Rey Escorpion Jr. but the members of Injustice would change that. The trio caused a distraction while Pillman was in the ring, allowing the AAA team to take control of the match.

There was several examples of referee bias toward AAA wrestlers in this match as well. Davey Boy was prevented from tagging in during a key moment for his team. Eventually, Pillman fought off both opponents and tagged in Davey Boy right in front of the referee. Davey Boy cleared house and Pillman hit a plancha to the outside. The Hart Foundation then hit a modified version of the Hart Attack (with Pillman springboarding off the ropes and Davey Boy holding up Texano) for the win!

With the win, MLW goes up 4-2 in the MLW vs AAA Super Series.

Richard Holliday Retains “His” Caribbean Championship

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1254311751648030720

In previous episodes, we’ve seen that Holiday didn’t even know who he would be defending his title against in Tijuana. It should also be noted that the Caribbean Championship doesn’t actually belong to him. Savio Vega is the rightful holder of the title that Holliday is in possession of. Despite this, Holliday’s lawyer/father continues to lobby for the belt to be made an official MLW title.

Holiday informed the fans in attendance that they likely would not be able to afford his air pods, ingratiating himself to them. Chessman then took the early control of the match before Holiday hit him with a chair. Chessman would battle back but would miss a top-rope move allowing Holiday to hit the Market Crash for the win.

Low-Ki Interrupts Team Filthy Press Conference

A press conference featuring the members of Team Filthy was planned for this week. It never happened, however. Low-Ki is reported to have gone after Dan Lambert and then Team Filthy left before the press conference could begin. Lambert played an instrumental role in King Mo’s controversial victory over Low-Ki a few weeks back.

Low-Ki was filmed in the parking lot telling Team Filthy and American Top Team that they are the ones who started this war.

MLW Issues Complaint Regarding AAA Officiating

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1254237495119810565

The officiating during the MLW vs AAA Super Series has been suspect at best. Douglas James was denied a victory over Averno after a long 2-count during his match. Tom Lawlor and Dominic Garrini were denied a blind tag in their match last week as well. It was noted on this week’s MLW broadcast that the league has issued a formal complaint to AAA regarding the officiating.

Mance Warner Wants A Shot At Alexander Hammerstone’s Belt

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1254485398782308352

Last week on Fusion, Mance Warner shoved Alexander Hammerstone’s face into Alicia Atout’s birthday cake. This week, Warner apologized to Atout and offered her a light beer as a gift. Atout told Warner she was happy he sent MJF out of the territory and suggested he could turn his attention to other members of the Dynasty as well. Warner said he’d like to get some gold like Hammerstone’s National Openweight title.

A video was shown featuring Hammerstone saying the Openweight title is like his birth certificate, as in it always has his name on it. These two are bound to clash for that belt sometime soon.

Coming Up In MLW

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1254237260771287041

Inustice will get a shot at the AAA Trios titles next week when they take on Los Jinetes del Aire (El Hijo del Vikingo, Myzteziz Jr. & Octagon Jr.). This match came about after Injustice and Konnan had a backstage run-in previously. Brian Pillman Jr. may be watching this match closely. The members of Injustice came out to distract him this week and Pillman still wants revenge for the faction’s recent attack on him. Pillman is also said to be losing weight in order to qualify for a middleweight title shot against Myron Reed.

7 Takeaways From MLW Fusion 12/7

This weekend, Major League Wrestling presented its final episode of Fusion from the recent Orlando tapings. The main event this week featured the Hart Foundation going up against Contra Unit in tag team action. Tom Lawlor would also explain why he turned on the Von Erichs.

The episode can be viewed in the player below:

Here are 7 takeaways from MLW Fusion 12/7:

Hart Foundation Pick Up Measure Of Revenge On Contra Unit

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1203509250992947200
  • Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Brian Pillman Jr. (Hart Foundation) defeated Ikuro Kwon & Simon Gotch (Contra Unit)

Teddy Hart was released from MLW’s roster recently but in storyline, he was taken out by Contra Unit’s Josef Samael with a fireball. Samael hit Hart with the fireball during a middleweight championship match he would lose to Injustice’s Myron Reed.

The remaining members of the Hart Foundation, Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Brian Pillman Jr., picked up a measure of revenge this week when they defeated Ikuro Kwon and Simon Gotch from Contra Unit. The finish of the match saw Pillman and Davey Boy deliver a modified Hart Attack on Gotch for the win.

Tom Lawlor Explains Turning On Von Erichs

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1203747344346431488

On the Thanksgiving day special of MLW Fusion, Tom Lawlor turned his back on the Von Erichs. During the world title match between Jacob Fatu and Ross Von Erich, Lawlor hit Ross with a chair, allowing the champion to retain his title.

In a backstage segment this week, Lawlor explained he is not loyal to Contra Unit and did what he did because he was sick of the Von Erichs making it all about them. Lawlor said he’s not loyal to Contra or the Von Erichs, he’s only loyal to himself.

Grogan Wins Battle Royal

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1203497926309203970
  • Grogan wins Invitational Battle Royal

The giant Grogan was introduced in a backstage segment featuring the Dynasty recently. The 6ft 8 300lbs newcomer to MLW has wrestled under the name Logan Creed as well. National Openweight Champion Alex Hammerstone was on commentary during this match and bragged about bringing in the big man.

Grogan was well-featured in this battle royal and would eventually toss out Timothy Thatcher to secure the victory. Big things could be in store for the Dynasty with Hammerstone’s “Big Gift” now in the faction.

Savio Vega Beats Leo Brien In A Swamp Match

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1203501197870551040
  • Swamp Match
    Savio Vega defeated Leo Brien

As this week’s MLW Fusion was taped in Orlando’s Gilt Nightclub, the nearby Florida swamps provided the venue for this match between Leo Brien and Savio Vega. Each wrestler used whatever weapons were at his disposal in this one, with Brien’s bull rope coming into play often.

The finish came when Brien missed hitting his opponent with the cowbell and Savio countered with a spinning back heel kick for the win.

After the match was over, however, Savio didn’t show any mercy to his opponent and continued the assault.

Von Erichs Thought Of Lawlor As A Brother

The Von Erich family is used to betrayals. Whether it is Michael Hayes hitting Kerry Von Erich with a steel cage door or Tom Lawlor hitting Ross Von Erich with a steel chair, those betrayals often occur during world title matches, or so it seems.

A backstage interview with Ross and Marshall Von Erich aired this week and featured an upset Ross saying he thought of Lawlor like a brother. Marshall Von Erich warned Tom that he was going to see him soon and Lawlor better hope he doesn’t seem him in the ring.

Taipei Deathmatch Cancelled

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1203411417942167557

A Tapai Death Match between Mance Warner and Jimmy Havoc had been scheduled and advertised for this week but did not air. A news bulletin scrolled across the bottom of the screen during the episode that the match had been canceled due to a backstage attack.

When MLW heads to Dallas in the new year, however, Warner and Havoc are scheduled to face each other in a barbed wire match.

Opera Cup Begins Next Week

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1158346915903365120

On next week’s episode of Fusion, MLW will air two of the opening round matches from the Opera Cup. The promotion taped the tournament on December 5th, 2019 inside New York’s Melrose Ballroom.

It will be an inter-Dynasty match-up as Richard Holiday’s lawyer/father was not able to prevent the match between Hammerstone and MJF next week. Davey Boy Smith Jr. will also look to start his journey to capturing the Cup last won by his grandfather when he takes on former MLW World Champion Low-Ki.

Airing next week:

  • Davey Boy Smith Jr. vs Low-Ki
  • Alex Hammerstone vs Maxwell Jacob Friedman

Other opening-round matches:

  • Brian Pillman Jr. vs TJP
  • Richard Holiday vs Timothy Thatcher

Quick Results MLW Fusion 12/7:

  1. Grogan wins Invitational Battle Royal
  2. Savio Vega defeated Leo Brien in a Swamp Match
  3. Davey Boy Smith Jr. & Brian Pillman Jr. (Hart Foundation) defeated Ikuro Kwon & Simon Gotch (Contra Unit)

Bret Hart’s Assailant Charged With Multiple Counts Of Assault

Last night during the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, someone jumped the ring and tackled Bret Hart while he was giving the Hart Foundation induction speech. Bret Hart’s assailant has been charged with 2 counts of assault in the 3rd degree and one count of disorderly conduct.

LA Times reporter Arash Markazi was on the scene and live-Tweeted what happened.

During the broadcast of the ceremony on the WWE Network, the screen cut to black shortly after the man grabbed Bret. Bret fell into Natalya and numerous other people jumped the ring after to quell the situation.

Drake Maverick instructed the crowd to ignore the assailant. The crowd then erupted into a big chant for Bret before the Hitman would resume his speech.

WWE Releases Statement

WWE released the following statement regarding the incident:

“An over-exuberant fan surpassed our security at ringside and made his way briefly into the ring. The individual has been turned over to the proper authorities.”

Wrestling Personalities Honor Bret Hart

Bret Hart’s niece, Natalya, took to Twitter to comment on the situation.

Two WWE tag team champions also took the time to honor the Hart Foundation on Twitter last night:

MLW Fusion Moving To Saturday Nights On BeIN Sports

MLW Fusion is moving to Saturday nights. Major League Wrestling recently presented a live show on Saturday, February 2nd from the 2300 Arena and are now making the move to Saturdays permanent.

BeIN Sports’ and MLW’s desire for more live specials played a role in the move.

“With the majority of our cards on Saturday nights and beIN interested in doing more live broadcasts in 2019, it made sense to move the show to Saturdays,” said MLW CEO Court Bauer.  “Saturday night wrestling has a history dating back decades. It’s an honor to bring that tradition back starting this Saturday night on beIN.”

The show will begin airing at 9 PM est.

MLW Fusion’s Spanish broadcast will move to Monday nights on BeIN SPORTS en Espanol.

WWE Smackdown Live! is currently scheduled to debut on Fox’s Friday night schedule beginning October 4th. It is not clear if they will remain in the Friday night slot long-term, however.

MLW Fusion Live

MLW presented its second live show from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia on February 2nd, 2019. The Hart Foundation continued its dominance of the promotion that night, winning the MLW tag titles. They defeated the Lucha Bros in the show’s opener. Tom Lawlor then won the MLW World Championship from Low-Ki in the night’s main event.

“Starting this Saturday February 16th, MLW will move to Saturdays on beIN SPORTS and to Monday nights on the Spanish network, beIN SPORTS en Espanol,” states an MLW Press Release.

First WWE Hall Of Fame Class Of 2019 Inductees Revealed

Arguably one of the greatest tag teams of all time will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. According to a report from PW Insider, the Hart Foundation are set to be honored over WrestleMania weekend.

Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, and their original manager Jimmy Hart will all receive the honors. Bret Hart was originally inducted into the Hall in 2006 while Jimmy Hart was inducted the year prior in 2005.

Sadly, Neidhart will be a posthumous inductee as we lost him this summer at the age of 63.

The Hart Foundation – WWE Hall Of Fame

Bret and Neidhart both joined WWE after Vince McMahon purchased Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling territory in 1984. They began teaming together at Bret’s request in 1985.

The Harts would enlist the help of “Dangerous” Danny Davis, a corrupt referee, to win the titles from the British Bulldogs on an episode of Superstars from January 1987. After a 274 day reign, they would drop the titles to Rick Martel and Tito Santana.

Bret and Neidhart would turn babyface and win the titles for the second time in 1990. They defeated Demolition at SummerSlam that year. The Hart Foundation held the titles for another 209 days before dropping them to the Nasty Boys at WrestleMania VII. Shortly after, Bret began a single’s career and Neidhart would move on to form the New Foundation with Owen Hart.

The Hart Foundation rank 3rd all-time on the list of most combined days spent with the tag titles.

MLW SuperFight: Hart Foundation Score Tag Team Gold

At Major League Wrestling’s Superfight event from the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania last Saturday night, The Hart Foundation (Teddy Hart and Davey Boy Smith Jr.) were able to secure victory over the Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) to win the MLW World Tag Team Championship.

The Foundation is riding high as this is their second reign of the tag team championship and Teddy already holds the MLW World Middleweight Championship.

After the match was over, the Lucha Brothers stormed out of the building in frustration over their loss. MLW said that they have no comment on the Lucha Brothers actions.

“MLW has no comment at this time about @PENTAELZEROM and @ReyFenixMx storming out of @2300Arena following their World Tag Team Championship loss to the #HartFoundation

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1091904690466549760

If you are unaware, the Lucha Brothers agreed to sign with AEW at the Come Hell or High Water PPV on Friday night via a handshake deal with the Young Bucks.

Lucha Bros Vs The Hart Foundation Booked For MLW: SuperFight

When Major League Wrestling invades the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia on February 2nd, the Hart Foundation will look to win the MLW tag-team championships from the Lucha Bros.

MLW recently announced the title match for their Philadelphia Fusion tapings which will also include Tom Lawlor challenging Low-Ki for the MLW World Championship. Pentagon and Teddy Hart are scheduled to go one-on-one on Fusion tomorrow night as well.

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1080866628324208640?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Eembeddedtimeline%7Ctwterm%5Eprofile%3AMLW%7Ctwcon%5Etimelinechrome&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fmlw.com%2F2019%2F01%2F03%2F7815%2F

“This is a big match,” said MLW CEO Court Bauer. “Fénix and Penta have practically cleaned out the division while the Hart Foundation have not just dominated but straight up decimated everyone we’ve thrown at them. Philly is in for something special when these four throw down.”

The Hart Foundation In MLW

Teddy Hart, Davey Boy Smith Jr, and Brian Pillman Jr make up the new incarnation of the Hart Foundation.

MLW locked up Teddy Hart to a deal last month. “I love a good comeback story,” said Court Bauer when speaking of Hart’s signing. “Teddy has lived up to his end and has brought it in every match. He’s hands down one of the most talented wrestlers of his generation and his commitment to MLW has been exceptional so we’re committing to him.”

MLW also recently signed Davey Boy Smith Jr. to a multi-year deal. “He’s been a part of MLW dating back to when he was just 18 and I know I speak for fans and the league when I say we’re very excited to see what the big guy does in 2019 and beyond,” Bauer said regarding Smith.

MLW also recently filed to trademark the name “Hart Foundation”.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. Signs With MLW, “Hart Foundation” Trademark Filed

Second generation wrestler Davey Boy Smith Jr. has signed a multi-year deal with Major League Wrestling (MLW). The agreement allows for the Bulldog to continue working for New Japan Pro Wrestling, where he’s a 3-time IWGP Tag Team Champion.

In a press release, league CEO Court Bauer called Smith a special talent. “He’s been a part of MLW dating back to when he was just 18 and I know I speak for fans and the league when I say we’re very excited to see what the big guy does in 2019 and beyond.”

Over the past year, Smith has been aligned with Teddy Hart and Brian Pillman Jr. as part of the Hart Foundation faction. Both Hart and Pillman signed with MLW in recent months, an indication the Hart Foundation will be a force to reckon with in 2019.

The Hart Foundation

Speaking of the Hart Foundation, MLW filed a trademark on the name back on December 19th, 2018. That trademark was previously held by WWE, but was canceled in May of 1999, the week of Owen Hart’s tragic death.

There have been many incarnations of the Hart Foundation over the years. The name was first used by 2-time WWE tag team champions Bret Hart and the late Jim Neidhart. During the Attitude Era, the Hart Foundation was a faction comprised of Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, Owen Hart, Davey Boy Smith Sr. and Brian Pillman Sr. Other wrestlers affiliated with other incarnations include Jack Evans, Natalya Neidhart and husband Tyson Kidd.

Back to MLW, Teddy Hart and Brian Pillman Jr. recently launched a new web series, H2tv. The first two episodes are at MLW’s YouTube channel. The third episode will be released tonight (1/3) at 8:15pm EST. You can catch the first two episodes below, each are about 2 minutes.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. signing with MLW bolsters their roster and is the latest development in the rapidly-evolving free-agent scene.

Teddy Hart, Harry Smith/Davey Boy Smith Jr, and Brian Pillman Jr. are currently a top stable in the promotion. The trio recently filmed a segment at Chicago’s Pro Wrestling Tees.

Pillman is scheduled to face Tommy Dreamer in a Singapore Cane match this Friday in Miami.
