Found Footage From WWE Bad Blood ’97 and the First ‘Hell In a Cell’

WWE is bringing back the Bad Blood event for an upcoming PLE this Saturday at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, GA, and has now released lost footage of the inaugural event.

WWE is reintroducing this theme to celebrate the anniversary of the very first Hell in a Cell match, which took place on October 5, 1997. The match featured The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, marking Kane’s debut.

Kane made his way down to the ring after multiple week teases of his impending arrival on television by Paul Bauer. Kane laid out his brother after a long staredown with a tombstone, allowing Michaels to go over.

WWE Vault released footage of welders putting together the structure, an infamous promo by The Undertaker, and clips of Kane’s arrival. This match changed the course of history and served as the launching pad for the Kane character, who went on to have a 20+ year career.

There is also footage of when WWE revived Bad Blood in 2003 for a Hell in a Cell match between Triple H and Kevin Nash, with Mick Foley as the special guest referee for the World Heavyweight Championship main event. The event also saw Goldberg take on Chris Jericho.

The previous time it was used was the following year when Triple H faced Shawn Michaels in another Hell in a Cell match as the main event. You can check it out below:

Best WWE Hell in a Cell Matches Ever: Undertaker, Mankind and more

Hell in a Cell has been one of WWE’s most iconic and brutal match types since its inception in 1997. Over the years, it has produced some of the most memorable and intense battles in professional wrestling history. Let’s take a look at the greatest Hell in a Cell matches of all time.

The Original Classic

The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels (Badd Blood 1997)

The very first Hell in a Cell match set an incredibly high bar that few have managed to surpass. The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels delivered a masterclass in storytelling, brutality, and drama. Their clash perfectly encapsulated what the Hell in a Cell match was designed for – settling intense personal feuds in a confined space with no escape.

The match featured Michaels desperately trying to evade The Undertaker’s wrath, even climbing to the top of the cell in an attempt to escape. It also saw the shocking debut of Kane, who cost his “brother” The Undertaker the victory. This bout laid the groundwork for all future Hell in a Cell matches and remains one of the greatest of all time.

The Most Infamous

The Undertaker vs. Mankind (King of the Ring 1998)

While not necessarily the best technical wrestling match, The Undertaker vs. Mankind at King of the Ring 1998 is undoubtedly the most famous and talked-about Hell in a Cell bout ever

This match is remembered for its shocking and dangerous stunts, including Mankind being thrown off the top of the cell and later chokeslammed through the cell roof.

The images of Mick Foley’s body crashing through tables and onto the hard arena floor are etched into wrestling history. Despite the brutality, Foley’s resilience and willingness to continue the match have made this an unforgettable spectacle that is still discussed over two decades later.

The Attitude Era Classic

Triple H vs. Cactus Jack (No Way Out 2000)

The rivalry between Triple H and Mick Foley (as Cactus Jack) reached its climax in this brutal Hell in a Cell match. With Foley’s career on the line, both men pushed themselves to the limit in a violent and emotionally charged contest.

The match featured innovative uses of the cell structure, weapons, and even fire. The image of Cactus Jack falling through the cell roof onto the ring below remains one of the most memorable moments in Hell in a Cell history.

This match perfectly balanced violence with storytelling, making it a standout of the Attitude Era.

The Modern Classic

The Undertaker vs. Triple H (WrestleMania XXVIII)

Billed as the “End of an Era,” this match saw two legends collide inside Hell in a Cell with Shawn Michaels as the special guest referee. The bout combined the brutality expected from a Hell in a Cell match with the epic storytelling befitting a WrestleMania main event.

The involvement of Michaels added an extra layer of drama, as his relationships with both competitors played into the match’s narrative. This contest proved that Hell in a Cell matches could still be impactful and meaningful in the modern PG era of WWE.

The Underrated Gem

The Usos vs. The New Day (Hell in a Cell 2017)

While often overlooked in discussions of great Hell in a Cell matches, this tag team encounter between The Usos and The New Day deserves recognition. The two teams had been engaged in a long-running feud, and their Hell in a Cell match served as a fitting climax to their rivalry.

This match showcased innovative uses of the cell structure and weapons, while also featuring the high-flying action both teams were known for. It proved that Hell in a Cell matches could work just as well for tag teams as for singles competitors.

The Women’s Revolution

Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks (Hell in a Cell 2019)

As women’s wrestling gained more prominence in WWE, it was only a matter of time before female superstars got their chance inside Hell in a Cell. Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks made the most of this opportunity, delivering a hard-hitting and emotionally charged contest.

This match helped cement the legitimacy of women’s wrestling in WWE’s most brutal match type. Lynch and Banks proved that they could deliver the same level of intensity and violence as their male counterparts, paving the way for future women’s Hell in a Cell matches.

CM Punk Vs. Drew McIntyre is the Only Choice to Headline Bad Blood – Inside Hell In A Cell

WWE recently announced the return of the Bad Blood brand for a PLE to occur this October from Atlanta. The first one—formally titled In Your House: Badd Blood—occurred in 1997, featuring the first ever Hell in a Cell match between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, culminating in the debut of Kane. The show returned in 2003 and 2004, headlined by Triple H working Hell in a Cell matches first with Kevin Nash, then Michaels.

After twenty years, Bad Blood is back. There’s no guarantee we’ll see the Cell, but it does feel like a natural choice given the history of the event. Moreover, WWE’s been building precisely the kind of feud that would warrant a big-time Hell in a Cell main event: CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre.

CM Punk Vs. Drew McIntyre Is The Hottest Feud In WWE

Drew McIntyre and CM Punk Hell in a Cell

CM Punk’s return to WWE was one of the biggest stories in wrestling at the turn of the year. There was a real risk of it fizzling just as it got started, though, as Punk went down to injury in his first televised match back—the men’s Royal Rumble—and had to miss WrestleMania.

WWE pivoted very nicely as Drew McIntyre took credit for the injury. The months to follow saw Punk three times directly cost McIntyre the World Heavyweight Championship–at WrestleMania, Clash at the Castle, and Money in the Bank–in addition the Scotsman beating Punk bloody on an episode of SmackDown.

This intense series of events, paired with the promo skills put on display by both participants have elevated this feud. Against the odds, it’s the hottest issue in WWE without the men involved working a single match together (aside from the Rumble).

Patience Has Been A Virtue In CM Punk Vs. Drew McIntyre Storytelling

While CM Punk’s injury has protected against rushing the CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre feud too much, WWE has also been shrewd in its storytelling. Punk and McIntyre have never entirely taken their eyes off each other even as McIntyre has engaged in other pursuits like chasing Seth Rollins and Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship. Moreover, they’ve built in some pacing like McIntyre pretending to quit the company, then getting suspended coming out of Money in the Bank.

Given the pace to date, it feels realistic WWE can carry forward without a match between these two until SummerSlam or later and, in any event, the pairing should still feel fresh enough to be a draw headlining Bad Blood.

The Promise And Pitfalls Of Adding Seth Rollins To The Mix

seth rollins cm punk 999 1

Seth Rollins vs. CM Punk looked like the clear direction for WrestleMania 40 before Punk went down to injury. WWE has nicely reignited the on-screen heat between them when Punk got in the middle of The Visionary’s business at Money in the Bank, going after Drew McIntyre.

Might WWE add Rollins more formally into the mix, including making this prospective Hell in a Cell showdown a triple threat? There are merits to the idea.

After all, one of the biggest questions surrounding Punk right now is his ability to deliver in a big match scenario. He looked a little sluggish in the Royal Rumble and got injured again, following an AEW run that was riddled with major injuries at all the worst times. If there’s anyone on the current WWE roster who can singlehandedly elevate match quality, it would have to be Rollins. The Visionary could enhance the existing match or be a key contributor if Punk were to get hurt and necessitate a change in plans on the fly.

On the other hand, Punk vs. McIntyre is hot enough that it’s more than worthy of its own epic blow off. Transitioning Punk into a feud focused on Rollins after he finishes his business with McIntyre makes all the sense in the world. As such, Rollins having some involvement with the finish or immediate aftermath of this match makes sense, but it may not be the best call to officially add him.

Alternatives Or Additions To CM Punk Vs. Drew McIntyre In Hell In A Cell

Rhea Ripley Returns

On a literal level, it’s overstating it to say CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre is the only match that could close Bad Blood 2024. It may well be the best choice, but world championships also offer obvious options. Cody Rhodes vs. Solo Sikoa probably isn’t going to be a “one and done” title program and could bleed into October. Meanwhile, Gunther awaits his World Heavyweight Championship opportunity at SummerSlam and however things play out between him and (presumably) Damian Priest may dictate a feud that could warrant the Cell, too.

Perhaps the most intriguing option of all would be to put Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan in the Cell. Their storyline and involvement with Dominik Mysterio has been a focal point of Raw for months now, culminating in a major moment when The Eradicator returned to close the July 8 episode of Raw. Ripley and Morgan have the talent and the heat behind their feud that they could also justify this kind of spotlight—especially if the current or a future injury were to prevent Punk from headlining the show.

In the end, WWE reviving the Bad Blood brand is doing exactly what it should in tapping into nostalgia and creating buzz. One of WWE’s most buzzworthy feuds should get the chance to headline the show.

Next Hell in a Cell Match to feature Two Former WWE World Champions

WWE’s next Hell in a Cell match may be a matter of weeks away according to the latest report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

In late 2022, it was reported that WWE was planning a Cell match between Edge and Finn Balor, that was scheduled to take place at the Royal Rumble PLE.

That match didn’t happen, and both men competed in the Men’s Royal Rumble match which was won by Cody Rhodes.

In the Observer, it is explained that WWE did plan on the Hell in a Cell match last month, but Edge’s acting commitments kept it from happening.

It is added that the match is a “possibility” for WWE WrestleMania 39 in April.

Edge and Balor will be on opposite teams for next week’s Elimination Chamber event, where they will team with Beth Phoenix and Rhea Ripley respectively.

Hell in a Cell at WrestleMania

Finn Balor and Edge

While the Hell in a Cell match has been a WWE staple for over 25 years, the match has only happened three times at WrestleMania.

At WrestleMania 15, The Undertaker defeated the Big Boss Man, extending the Phenom’s WrestleMania winning streak to 8-0.

It wouldn’t be until WrestleMania 28 that the Cell returned to WWE’s biggest event, when The Undertaker defeated Triple H.

At WrestleMania 32 in 2016, The Undertaker once again emerged victorious inside the Cell, this time against Shane McMahon.

The Future of Hell in a Cell

The Hell in a Cell match is one of the more graphic stipulations WWE uses, though matches over the past decade have been somewhat lacking.

Fans have taken issue with the Hell in a Cell match having a PLE, believing it has lessened the significance of the structure.

Last year, it was reported that the Hell in a Cell PLE is “completely dead” in an edict by WWE’s Head of Creative Triple H.

A veteran of nine Cell matches, the Game believes that match should be used when it makes sense, rather than WWE forcing a Cell match “just because it’s October.”

WWE Thrilled With Cody Rhodes’ Performance at Hell in a Cell

WWE appears to be in awe of Cody Rhodes following the Hell in a Cell event.

The HIAC premium live event took place this past Sunday night inside the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. In the main event, Cody Rhodes defeated Seth Rollins in a memorable Hell in a Cell match.

There was a lot of uncertainty going into the main event.

Word broke that Cody suffered a pectoral tear after WWE announced at a live event that he had been injured. The company later confirmed he completely tore the tendon off the bone.

WWE Officials Ecstatic Following HIAC

When Cody Rhodes took his entrance jacket off for the match with Seth Rollins, he revealed just how brutal-looking his injury was. He was nearly completely bruised from the pectoral to the arm.

A report from WrestlingNews.co noted that Cody was allowed to compete at Hell in a Cell because more damage wasn’t possible with a completely torn pectoral. The report mentioned that had he had a partial tear, he likely wouldn’t have been allowed to perform.

Another note from the report is WWE gave Cody the option to not wrestle but he insisted on going out there.

WrestleVotes is now reporting that WWE officials are over the moon with Cody Rhodes’ performance. Rollins is also being given his due and internally, this is considered an all-time classic in WWE history.

“I’ve had multiple sources reach out this morning w/ exemplary words for the performance Cody Rhodes put in last night. Credit to Seth Rollins as well. Those at Gorilla were said to have LOVED the match. A modern-day, all-time classic HIAC that WWE will treat as much going forward.”

WWE References Major AEW Star During Hell in a Cell

It appears WWE referenced a big-time AEW star during the Hell in a Cell broadcast.

The general consensus online is that HIAC was a premium live event that overdelivered. The show started off with a fun triple threat match for the Raw Women’s Championship, which saw Bianca Belair retain against Asuka and Becky Lynch.

Theory and Mustafa Ali also had a good United States Title match with Theory retaining the gold.

There was also some good action featuring AJ Styles, Finn Balor, and Liv Morgan taking on The Judgment Day (Edge, Damian Priest, and Rhea Ripley).

Kenny Omega Reference

Then there was the main event, which won’t soon be forgotten. Cody Rhodes revealed the gnarly after-effects of his complete pectoral tear during his match with Seth Rollins.

The left side of Cody’s body from the pec to his arm was almost completely bruised. He still toughed it out and won the match.

During that match, commentator Corey Graves dropped quite the reference to AEW star Kenny Omega.

Graves described Cody’s condition as, “a fallen angel with a broken wing.”

Of course, Kenny Omega’s finishing move is the One-Winged Angel. Some may think Corey simply made a reference to the iconic Final Fantasy VII game since Cody is a video game buff.

Omega is currently dealing with a slew of injuries. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery and was having issues with his hernia. He had also been dealing with neck problems and he isn’t close to returning to action.

Backstage Update on Cody Rhodes Being Cleared to Wrestle at WWE Hell in a Cell

Cody Rhodes was cleared to wrestle at WWE Hell in a Cell and seeing how bad his injury looked, it left many wondering why.

Fans knew something was off when Rhodes didn’t compete against Seth Rollins in a scheduled match at a house show just one night before HIAC. WWE announced to the crowd that Cody suffered an injury and he was replaced by Drew McIntyre.

After the match, Cody ran Seth off leaving many to wonder if the injury was a work.

As it turns out, the injury was very real as it was reported he had suffered a torn pectoral muscle while training. At the time, it wasn’t known if he had suffered a full tear or a partial tear.

News on Cody Rhodes Being Cleared

WWE announced on its Hell in a Cell Kickoff Show that Cody Rhodes tore his tendon completely off the bone. The company claimed at first he suffered a partial tear due to his brawl with Seth on the May 30 episode of Raw.

The company then noted Cody suffered a complete tear during a training session.

When Cody took off his entrance jacket for the match with Seth, his pec looked quite gruesome. Rhodes gutted it out and defeated Seth Rollins.

WrestlingNews.co is reporting that the reason why Cody was cleared to wrestle is that a completely torn pectoral muscle can’t get any worse. The report notes that had Cody only had a partial tear, he likely wouldn’t have been allowed to compete.

The report also mentions that WWE gave Cody the option to sit this one out but he insisted on performing.

What Happened After WWE Hell in a Cell Went Off The Air

WWE Hell in a Cell has wrapped up and fans got to see one-half of the main event give a passionate speech.

The premium live event took place inside Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois on June 5. In the main event, Cody Rhodes took on Seth Rollins inside the Hell in a Cell structure.

There was a lot of chatter going into this match and it had to do with Cody Rhodes’ injury. One night before the event, it was announced at a live show that “The American Nightmare” was injured.

Reports surfaced revealing that Cody suffered a pectoral tear but the severity of the injury wasn’t known. WWE ended up announcing that Rhodes tore the tendon completely off the bone.

Cody Rhodes Addresses Crowd

Cody Rhodes gutted out the injury and wrestled as advertised. His right pectoral muscle looked gruesome but his performance remained on point.

He pinned Rollins after delivering two straight Cross Rhodes’ followed by a sledgehammer shot.

Twitter user Sawyer Carr was in attendance and he captured footage of Cody addressing the crowd once the cameras stopped rolling.

WWE Superstar Busted Open Badly at Hell in a Cell (Video)

A WWE superstar suffered a nasty cut at the conclusion of his match.

WWE Hell in a Cell took place inside Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. The premium live event got started with a banger as Bianca Belair successfully defended the Raw Women’s Championship against Asuka and Becky Lynch in a triple threat match.

The show also featured a mixed six-person tag team match with AJ Styles, Finn Balor, and Liv Morgan taking on Edge, Damian Priest, and Rhea Ripley.

AJ Styles Leaks Blood

The Judgment Day ended up winning the match but fans noticed a doctor was checking on someone on the outside. Both Styles and Priest were on the outside but it ended up being Styles who was hurt.

Styles was busted open badly, seemingly from a spot where Edge threw him in a corner and he fell to the floor.

Rollins controlled the next few minutes before Cody exploded with a Clothesline. Cody hit another one that knocked Seth to the outside. Cody followed him out there and walked into a shot with the steel steps from Rollins. Seth put on Cody’s rope and grabbed a polka dot strap from under the ring. Rollins hit Cody across the back with it several times while dancing around the ring.

Seth Rollins brought a table into the ring and the crowd cheered. Cody and Seth traded punches before Rollins brought Rhodes to the corner. Seth perched Cody up on the top turnbuckle and hit him with a chop to the chest. Rollins went for a Superplex but Cody escaped. Cody went for a Powerbomb but Seth broke free and bashed Cody in the face.

Rollins put Cody on top of the table and climbed to the top rope. Seth went for a Frog Splash but Cody got out of the way and Seth crashed through the table. Rhodes then opened up a gym bag and pulled out a bull rope. Cody dared Rollins to tie it to his hand and he did. Cody caught Seth with a boot to the ribs and tried to bash him with the cowbell but Rollins blocked it.

Rhodes hit Seth with a boot to the face and then clocked him over the head with the bell for a two count. Rollins took back control and sent Cody into the ring post a few times. Seth set up another table in the corner of the ring and went for a Powerbomb but Cody escaped. Cody connected with Cross Rhodes and went for the cover but Seth kicked out at the last moment.

Cody set up for a Powerbomb but the injury prevented him from being able to lift Seth up. Rollins capitalized with a Superkick and then Powerbombed Rhodes through the table in the corner of the ring. Seth went for the cover but somehow Cody was able to kick out at two and the Hell in a Cell match continued.

Rollins grabbed a sledgehammer from under the ring and brought it inside as Cody hobbled to his feet. Rollins hit Cody in the ribs and then went for a Pedigree but Rhodes countered into a Pedigree of his own for a near fall. Cody grabbed the sledgehammer and chased Rollins around the ring. Seth got in the ring and hit Cody with the Stomp for a two count. Rollins hit a Cross Rhodes but Cody didn’t let go and hit a Cross Rhodes of his own in a crazy sequence.

Both superstars were down and started crawling towards the sledgehammer. Cody got there first but dropped it because of his injury. Rollins charged with the sledgehammer but Cody was ready and hit two Cross Rhodes in a row. Rhodes then bashed Seth in the face with the sledgehammer for the pinfall victory. Cody Rhodes is now 3-0 against Seth Rollins since returning to WWE at WrestleMania 38.

WWE Makes Major Changes to Hell in a Cell Match

WWE has once again been forced to pivot on the fly.

Hell in a Cell will take place tonight inside Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. The card will feature seven matches including a Raw Women’s Title match between champion Bianca Belair, Asuka, and Becky Lynch.

There will also be a mixed six-person tag team match featuring AJ Styles, Finn Balor, and Liv Morgan taking on The Judgment Day (Edge, Damian Priest, and Rhea Ripley).

WWE Alters Plans

There are other matches on the card but none are bigger than the HIAC match between Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.

While WWE had plans laid out for the match, officials have needed to make changes. That’s because word broke that Cody may have suffered a torn pectoral while training for the match.

WrestleVotes reports that WWE has been making changes to the match all day.

“Unfortunately, the Cody Rhodes injury news going around is accurate. He is still scheduled to work tonight’s HIAC event, w/ the severity of the injury still being determined. I’m told plans for the match have been changing all day long. Feel terrible for Cody.”

Something was amiss when Cody didn’t compete in a scheduled match at a house show this past Saturday night. He was set to take on Seth Rollins but WWE announced that he suffered an injury.

Drew McIntyre ended up replacing Cody and he pinned Rollins. After the match, Cody ran Seth out of the ring.

WWE Claims Cody Rhodes is Injured at Live Event

Cody Rhodes was scheduled to wrestle during a house show this past Saturday but he only made an appearance.

During an untelevised Saturday Night’s Main Event, Cody was set to face Seth Rollins inside the State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois.

WWE ended up announcing that Cody Rhodes was “injured” and he ended up being replaced by Drew McIntyre. Drew picked up the win and after the match, Cody chased Seth off.

Work or Legit?

There’s no word on exactly why Cody didn’t wrestle last night. He’s been going one-on-one with Seth in a slew of dark matches over the past couple of months.

Cody is scheduled to face Seth at the Hell in a Cell premium live event tonight. Many suspect the “injury” WWE announced for Cody at the live event on Saturday was a work but time will tell if something else is truly at play.

SEScoops will have you covered with live results from the Hell in a Cell (see our predictions here) event.

WWE Hell in a Cell 2022 Predictions

It’s time for our WWE Hell in a Cell 2022 predictions. WWE’s latest premium live event takes place this Sunday, June 5th live from the Allstate Arena just outside Chicago, Illinois.

Jaychele Nicole, Andrew Ravens and Tyriece Simon ran down the card and gave their picks for who they think will win each match on the card.

Steve Fall and Stephanie Hypes also got together and shared their predictions in this video the SEScoops YouTube channel:

Here are our WWE HIAC 2022 Predictions:

Theory vs. Mustafa Ali

Theory vs. Mustafa Ali
Theory vs. Mustafa Ali

Tyriece Simon: This match has the potential to be a match of the night candidate. Both wrestlers are talented and, if given time, could have a great match. I don’t think Ali will get the win because Theory is still new as United States Champion. I predict Ali will come close to winning, but Theory cheats to retain the title. (Prediction: Theory)

Jaychele Nicole: Right now, this looks like one of the best matches on the card. I’m excited to see Ali on a pay-per-view, especially since he’s competing in a title match. However, Theory is getting a really big and long push. I don’t think that push stops here. As Ali’s star power grows, I could see him eventually becoming the United States Champion, but not at this time. (Prediction: Theory)

Andrew Ravens: This should be one of the best matches of the night as both stars can go in the ring. I know Theory has been pushed strongly over the last few months, but I’m not ruling out Ali walking out with the title as they’ve been behind him since returning. I have Theory going over and that’s the right call because he’s a bigger star than Ali at this time. (Prediction: Theory)

Consensus: Theory retains the US Championship

Judgement Day vs. Finn Bálor, A.J. Styles & Liv Morgan

Judgement Day vs. Finn Bálor, A.J. Styles & Liv Morgan
Judgement Day vs. Finn Bálor, A.J. Styles & Liv Morgan

Tyriece Simon: This will be an interesting match to see how they will use Morgan and Ripley in the match. I believe they should have moments to shine because everyone else is established in WWE. I think we will get some excellent tag team moves involving both Morgan and Ripley. I have the team of The Judgement Day winning because I think we will get a new member of the faction to cost the group of Balor, Styles, and Morgan. (Prediction: Judgement Day)

Jaychele Nicole: I’m excited to see this match because I love mixed tag team matches. I’m excited to see the use of Liv Morgan and Rhea Ripley. The other talent in the match are much more established than the women. This could be a huge moment for Liv Morgan. For a while, she struggled to even get on pay-per-views. I believe that Finn, AJ, and Liv will get the win here, but will lose in their next bout. (Prediction: Finn Balor, AJ Styles & Liv Morgan)

Andrew Ravens: A fun match on paper that should deliver. This is a placeholder type of match for the event that can be described just like it. WWE shouldn’t beat Judgment Day here or anytime soon. They’re the top fact on the show and should remain booked as strong as possible. (Prediction: Judgment Day)

Consensus: Judgement Day

Bobby Lashley vs. MVP and Omos

Bobby Lashley vs. MVP and Omos
Bobby Lashley vs. MVP and Omos

Tyriece Simon: I think this may be the least exciting match on the card, but it still has the potential to be a solid match. I’m assuming this will end the feud between Lashley and Omos with MVP. I have Lashley defeating Omos and MVP due to miscommunication between the new team. MVP may hit Omos with an illegal object, and Lashley hits a spear on MVP to win. (Prediction: Lashley)

Jaychele Nicole: Honestly, I’m very tired of this feud. It’s extremely boring and played out at this point. I wish it would’ve ended after the Cage Match that they had. In order for the feud to end, I feel like the heels have to get a win. I’m guessing that the goal of this feud was to elevate Omos and this would be the only way to do it since he’s lost so much already. (Prediction: Omos & MVP)

Andrew Ravens: I think this is a clear example of WWE liking to repeat matches so often. Omos and MVP should go over since they have the advantage in storyline, which will lead to another handicap match with some type of a stipulation to go along with it. (Prediction: Omos and MVP)

Consensus: Omos & MVP

Kevin Owens vs. Ezekiel

Kevin Owens vs. Ezekiel
Kevin Owens vs. Ezekiel

Tyriece Simon: Does Ezekiel get the win over Owens? This match is hard to call. I can see Ezekiel defeating Owens to finish their program. The crowd is behind Ezekiel, and he is a new babyface that WWE should build up. Although, I can see Owens defeating Ezekiel to move on to another feud, maybe Rhodes, potentially.  I’ll go with Ezekiel because I think it won’t hurt Owens, and he could get a win back later. (Prediction: Ezekiel)

Jaychele Nicole: The only way I can really see Ezekiel winning is if they decide to make a star out of him here. Kevin Owens doesn’t have the best win record recently. Owens needs a pretty strong win, and this pay-per-view match would be a good spot for it. Owens is bigger than this feud which makes me think he’ll get the win. (Prediction: Kevin Owens)

Andrew Ravens: There’s no reason why Owens shouldn’t win here. Ezekiel is a comedy character and the fact that Owens is in this feud is just not right as he should be used better even though he’s been great with what he’s had to do. (Prediction: Kevin Owens)

Consensus: Kevin Owens

Bianca Belair vs. Asuka vs. Becky Lynch

Bianca Belair vs. Asuka vs. Becky Lynch
Bianca Belair vs. Asuka vs. Becky Lynch

Tyriece Simon:  The build to this match has been underwhelming to me. I think the match would be better if it were a singles match between Asuka and Lynch because that feud has been in primary focus. It’s understood that Belair should defend her title, but I’d like it if she had her rivalry. With that said, I think Belair retains her title. There isn’t a need to take the title off of her, and I believe this is to have her defend the title on the card. It should be an entertaining match. (Prediction: Bianca Belair)

Jaychele Nicole: I’m really excited for this match and it is definitely my favorite on the card. All three women are extremely talented. I believe that Bianca is in for a lengthy reign and that this isn’t the time for her to lose her championship. With this match, they can still continue the feud between Asuka and Becky Lynch. This would allow for one of them to take the pin while still remaining strong. (Prediction: Bianca Belair)

Andrew Ravens: An interesting match that is the second biggest on the card in terms of star power. I find it hard to believe that Belair would drop the title here, but unless they want her to chase it again, it would be the place to do that should they not want her to take the pinfall or submission loss. I don’t see that here and have Lynch eating the loss with the program with Asuka continuing. (Prediction: Bianca Belair)

Consensus: Bianca Belair

Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins (Hell in a Cell)

Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins (Hell in a Cell)
Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins (Hell in a Cell)

Andrew Ravens: Just like their previous two matches, Rhodes must win here. Especially at this point as he has already beaten Rollins twice. While Rollins did get some heat back, in my opinion, it’s never a great idea to beat someone three times in a row on PPV. (Prediction: Cody Rhodes)

Jaychele Nicole: I’m really excited for their match. Every time that these two have faced each other, they have produced an amazing match. This will be the same. Cody cannot take a loss this early into his return. I don’t know if it’s the best that Seth is losing so much recently, but the matches are always stellar. (Prediction: Cody Rhodes)

Tyriece Simon: This is the match I am looking forward to the most on this card. I have enjoyed this feud between Rhodes and Rollins. It will be interesting to see how much WWE will allow them to do in the match. AEW fans know that Rhodes likes to take risks and be extreme in matches that will enable it. I expect both wrestlers to climb the top of the cell. This match will be the main event, and it’s well deserved. I have Rhodes getting the win and ending the rivalry with Rollins. (Prediction: Cody Rhodes)

Consensus: Cody Rhodes

Additional Match Planned For WWE Hell in a Cell

It looks like another match will be added to the WWE Hell in a Cell card.

The HIAC premium live event is set to go down this Sunday night (June 5). The action will take place inside Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.

The card is set to have some key matches including Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins III and Bianca Belair vs. Asuka vs. Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship.

It appears you can add another match to the list.

Madcap Moss vs. Happy Corbin

WrestleVotes is reporting that another match between Madcap Moss and Happy Corbin is currently planned for WWE Hell in a Cell.

In addition, the report has seemingly ruled out two matches for the event this weekend.

“As of last check around 4pm today, no Usos tag title or Ricochet IC title match will be added to the HIAC card. Good news however, yet another Riddick Moss vs Happy Corbin match is scheduled to make the show.”

Moss and Corbin were once tag team partners. The two started feuding after Corbin grew jealous of Moss’ Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal win.

They had a match at WrestleMania Backlash. Madcap Moss picked up the win via pinfall.

During the May 13 episode of SmackDown, Corbin attacked Moss and placed his neck through a chair. He then crushed it with the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal trophy. Moss was stretchered out of the arena.

Madcap has been advertised to make his return during the June 3 episode of SmackDown.

The Lost Opportunity of Including a Women’s Hell in a Cell Match

The Hell In A Cell pay-per-view, and the match itself, make up a huge piece of WWE’s history. A newer piece of said history is that of the few women’s Hell In A Cell matches we’ve seen. As a result of the women’s revolution, the female performers in WWE got the opportunity to go at it inside the cell just like the men.

So far, there has been four women’s Hell In A Cell matches. Three out of the four have included Sasha Banks. Women’s Hell In A Cell matches were featured at the following Hell In A Cell pay-per-views: 2016, 2019, 2020, and 2021. We have seen Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks vs. Bayley, and Bayley vs. Bianca Belair.

Throughout the years, the women’s match has always been one to steal the show. Many times we only see wrestlers get thrown into the cell when the feud is undeserving of it. However, with there being only one women’s Hell In A Cell match, it is normally given to the feud that is most deserving of it.

Previous Women’s Hell In A Cell Matches

Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair (2016)

Charlotte and Sasha set the stage for what the women could do inside Hell In A Cell. From their entrances, you could tell that this match was extremely meaningful. These women took brutal and captivating bumps before the bell even rang. Even though there were some unfortunate, and uncontrollable, mishaps, these women were able to put forward incredible efforts. Unfortunately, the finish of the match was messed up, and the result deflated the crowd, but these women went on to have better matches against each other.

Sasha Banks vs. Becky Lynch (2019)

Sasha Banks vs Becky Lynch has been regarded as one of the best women’s wrestling matches in the WWE. This was viewed as Sasha Banks’ redemption match from her match with Charlotte Flair. The atmosphere of this match really enhanced the match itself. There was so much creativity within this match that it set the bar for the other female Hell In A Cell matches to come. The match itself is regarded as one of the best Hell In A Cell matches of all time.

Sasha Banks vs Bayley (2020)

Sasha Banks vs Bayley was the culmination of one of the biggest stories during WWE’s pandemic era. Banks’ legacy was partially formed due to the incredible matches she had within the cell. Each year, we have seen Sasha improvise and create new things to do within the cell. Bayley’s first go in the cell was one of the defining matches of the pandemic. She was not afraid to take the bumps necessary to make it as legendary as it was.

Sasha and Bayley have such a long history that they were able to use that to their advantage. Everyone remembers their match from NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn. They did all they could to create new spots and moments to try and make the match just as memorable.

Bayley vs Bianca Belair (2021)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLiErWk2OLI

Bianca Belair’s first time in the cell was epic. With only about five years of experience, Belair was able to define her career with that match. From Bianca’s gear to her creativity inside the match, it was one of the significant matches in Bianca’s match catalog.

It would be a crime to not mention the performance that Bayley put on in this match. Bayley worked this match as the veteran had already competed against Sasha in the cell the year before. She was able to lead the match while still playing up her usual heel tactics. Bayley had been messing with Bianca since before she won the title. This was the perfect stipulation for this feud that was unfortunately was also the last match in the feud as Bayley got hurt before their scheduled ‘I Quit’ match.

The Importance Of Women’s Hell In A Cell Matches

It’s another scathing indictment of the booking of the women’s division that there is not a women’s Hell In A Cell match on this card. Between the walkout and suspension of the women’s Hell In A Cell veteran Sasha Banks and Naomi, and the lack of strong storylines in the women’s division on SmackDown, it is honestly no surprise that this is where the division is at right now. As the card currently stands, the SmackDown Women’s Championship isn’t even being defended at the pay-per-view.

Possible Hell In A Cell Matches For This Year

Hell in a Cell Cage

Each year, we see new women enter the cell and test the limits of their in-ring ability. It’s sad that this will not be the case this year. There are many women on the roster who would’ve been deserving of the Hell In A Cell match slot.

The best option for this year seems to be Liv Morgan vs Rhea Ripley. If Asuka hadn’t returned, it would’ve made sense to do Becky Lynch vs Bianca Belair inside the cell for the Raw Women’s Championship. This would’ve been the perfect match stipulation to tie a bow on their long-running feud. The Raw Women’s Championship feud is currently based on a two-person feud that Bianca was placed in. It doesn’t make sense to put this feud inside of the cell due to the lack of engagement in the feud from the champion herself.

There are many combinations of undeveloped stars within the division that would’ve especially benefited from having the experience of being in the cell. Especially those like Rhea Ripley, Shotzi, Liv Morgan, Doudrop, Zelina Vega, Shayna Baszler, and so much more would benefit from being in a match like this.

They truly have dropped the ball with the opportunity to include a women’s Hell In A Cell match like they have for the last three years. The division, especially in the state it is in without its big stars like Sasha, Naomi, and Charlotte, the other women in the division would’ve benefitted from the chance to compete in a more hardcore and savage match stipulation.

5 of the Best Hell in a Cell Matches in WWE History

The Hell in a Cell match deserves to be considered in the conversation for WWE’s greatest match stipulation. WWE realized the traditional cage match was starting to grow stale in 1997 when coming up with the concept. Fans of the Attitude Era fell in love with the chaotic violence of the match, and it now exists as its own PPV due to the drawing power.

Legendary names like The Undertaker, Triple H, Shawn Michaels and Mick Foley have created career-defining moments in the sadistic structure. The unpredictable nature of wrestlers competing outside or even on top of the cell made it must-watch television.

Certain matches deserve extra credit for its impact adding to the stipulation. Each of the following bouts were the greatest to take place in the Hell in a Cell structure.

The Undertaker Vs Mankind (King of the Ring 1998)

Undertaker Mick Foley Hell in a Cell
The most iconic Hell in a Cell match in WWE history

WWE witnessed the Hell in a Cell match becoming a bigger deal when The Undertaker and Mankind had an Attitude Era-defining match. King of the Ring 1998 saw their rivalry back at the forefront with Mick Foley taking some must-watch bumps that was sheerly unbelievable at the time.

Every young wrestling fan was talking about this match at school the next day. Undertaker throwing Foley off the cell through the commentary table and through the cell itself into the ring was a spectacle. WWE even used the story of Undertaker “making people famous” in HIAC matches due to this one.

Sasha Banks Vs Bayley (Hell In A Cell 2020)

Sasha Banks Bayley HIAC
The Boss stands tall after Hell in a Cell

One common argument against the Hell in a Cell PPV is that it forces matches not worthy of the stipulation and overlooks some feuds due to the timing. Hell in a Cell 2020 featured a tremendous feud worthy of paying off inside of the structure.

Bayley turning on Sasha Banks after years of ups and downs as best friends paid off all the fan investment. This match allowed WWE to give the story a proper payoff of Banks dethroning Bayley to become Smackdown Women’s Champion for the violent revenge.

Triple H Vs Cactus Jack (No Way Out 2000)

Triple H Cactus Jack Hell in a Cell
This match helped elevate Triple H to main event status

WWE booked the feud between Triple H and Mick Foley perfectly in 2000. Triple H was reaching that elite top star tier when having back-to-back classic PPV matches with Foley. The story saw Mick forced to adopt his Cactus Jack persona to match the violence of Triple H.

Royal Rumble 2000 was an all-time great match and added pressure to their Hell in a Cell match having to follow it. Triple H and Foley lived up to the hype with a spectacular HIAC match. The use of barbed wire, fire and various weapons created the perfect platform for a legendary feud at No Way Out 2000.

The Undertaker Vs Triple H (WrestleMania 28)

WWE has used the Hell in a Cell match on a handful of WrestleMania events, but one clearly stands out above the rest. The four-year storyline of Triple H and Shawn Michaels trying to end The Undertaker’s undefeated WrestleMania streak in classic matches may have been WWE’s peak storytelling.

Triple H and Undertaker were the two names most synonymous with the Hell in a Cell match when facing off at WrestleMania 28 with Michaels as the referee. Undertaker kicking out of the Sweet Chin Music/Pedigree combo is a legendary moment every wrestling fan will remember. This match is worthy of being considered on the Mount Rushmore of WM matches.

Shawn Michaels Vs The Undertaker (Badd Blood: In Your House)

undertaker hbk hiac
The first Hell in a Cell match set a new standard for violence in WWE

The first Hell in a Cell match still deserves to be viewed as the peak of the match. WWE wasn’t sure about how often it would be used when creating the concept, until The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels showed how tremendous of a match it can be.

Everything in this match meshed together to create perfect pro wrestling merging violence, story, and a caliber of entertainment only formed in a squared circle. Undertaker and Michaels had a flawless match and added a major finish of Kane debuting in impressive fashion. This match ensured the Hell in a Cell gimmick would stick around for decades.

What Happened After May 23 WWE Raw Went Off The Air

The May 23 episode of WWE Raw is in the books but some important movement took place after the USA Network airing.

In the main event of Raw, Asuka took on Becky Lynch in a rematch. The stipulation was that if Becky won, then she’d be added to the Raw Women’s Title match at Hell in a Cell on June 5.

Asuka ended up accidentally kicking Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair in the head, causing a distraction. Asuka almost got counted out but it didn’t matter as Becky rolled up Asuka for the pinfall.

It’ll now be Belair vs. Asuka vs. Becky at Hell in a Cell.

MVP’s Stipulation Revealed After Raw

Fans also witnessed MVP defeat Bobby Lashley thanks to interference from Omos. As a result, MVP got to lay down the stipulation for Lashley vs. Omos at Hell in a Cell.

Before MVP could get a word out, however, Lashley got him in the Hurt Lock.

When the show went off the air, WWE held its Raw Talk show. During the show, MVP announced that it’ll be him and Omos vs. Bobby Lashley in a handicap match.

Cody Rhodes Addresses WWE Universe

As far as the live crowd post-show is concerned, Cody Rhodes spoke to the fans in attendance. This was after he had a dark match in which he pinned Seth Rollins. He took pics with as many people as he could after the match.

Hell In A Cell Match Announced For Crown Jewel, Updated Card

WWE has announced that Seth Rollins will be facing Edge in a Hell In A Cell match at the upcoming Crown Jewel PPV from Saudi Arabia.

These two have been feuding since the Money In The Bank PPV. The Rated R Superstar challenged the Universal champion Roman Reigns for his title at the show.

However, Edge couldn’t win the title due to interference from Rollins. This led to a few weeks of confrontations between the two before WWE announced that they will be meeting in a match at SummerSlam.

The Attitude Era star managed to win this match against the Architect via submission. Though their rivalry continued and last week’s episode of SmackDown saw Rollins invading the home of Edge.

Edge then proposed a Hell In A Cell stipulation for their rematch during the final segment of this week’s episode of the blue brand. The match was made official after Seth accepted the challenge.

WWE Crown Jewel Updated Match Card

This is the sixth match which has been confirmed for the show from the Middle Eastern country. After the announcement, here is the updated card for the event:

  • Universal Championship Match: Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns
  • WWE Championship Match: Drew McIntyre vs. Big E
  • Triple Threat SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Sasha Banks vs. Bianca Belair vs. Becky Lynch
  • Raw Tag Team Championship Match: AJ Styles and Omos vs. Randy Orton and Riddle
  • No Holds Barred Match: Bobby Lashley vs. WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg
  • Hell In A Cell Match: Edge vs. Seth Rollins

WWE Crown Jewel will take place on October 21 from the Mohammed Abdu Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Reason Why WWE Held Hell In A Cell Matches on Raw & SmackDown

WWE presented Hell in a Cell steel cage matches on Friday’s SmackDown and Monday’s Raw. You could argue that these matches diluted the uniqueness of the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, but the company had a very specific reason for booking this way.

SEScoops has learned that WWE ran the Hell in a Cell matches on Raw and SmackDown in an effort to provide their television partners (Fox and USA Network) a little “something extra.” The pandemic era was not kind to WWE viewership. Raw and SmackDown have drawn historic-low ratings this past year.

In light of their massive TV contracts, WWE has been feeling the pressure to jumpstart things to renew fan interest.

WWE initially had Roman Reigns vs. Rey Mysterio booked for the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. That match was moved to Friday’s SmackDown to boost viewership. The tactic worked, as SmackDown topped 2 million viewers.

USA Network was said to be unhappy about WWE holding a special Hell in a Cell match on SmackDown instead of Raw. This was a a factor in the Bobby Lashley vs. Xavier Woods match airing on last night’s Raw.

New Match Announced For Hell In A Cell, Updated Card

WWE announced a new match for the upcoming Hell In A Cell PPV during this week’s episode of Raw confirming that Alexa Bliss will be taking on Shayna Baszler on the show.

Last week’s episode the Red Brand featured an Alexa’s playground segment in the main event. It included Baszler as well and Bliss asked the former NXT women’s champion to apologize to her doll Lilly.

Shayna took the doll from Bliss but she stomped her instead. The lights then started to flicker and Baszler got caught up in the pyro on the stage when she tried to run to backstage.

The Queen of Spades went to the locker room and locked herself inside. However, Lily showed up on the mirror and the segment, and the show ended with Baszler screaming as the lights went out.

The opening segment of this week’s Hell In A Cell go home episode of Raw saw Nia Jax confronting Bliss backstage. Jax said that her partner will see Bliss at the PPV, making the match official.

Updated Hell In A Cell Match Card

This is the fifth match officially announced for the show this Sunday with one or two more bouts expected to be added on SmackDown. Below you can check out the updated card for the show so far:

  • WWE Championship Hell In a Cell Match: Drew McIntyre vs. Bobby Lashley, If Lashley wins McIntyre will not be able to challenge the All Mighty for the title again
  • Universal Championship Hell In a Cell Match: Rey Mysterio vs. Roman Reigns
  • Raw Women’s Championship Match: Charlotte Flair vs. Rhea Ripley
  • SmackDown Women’s Championship Match: Bayley vs. Bianca Belair
  • Singles Match: Shayna Baszler vs. Alexa Bliss

Hell In A Cell this year will take place on June 20 from the WWE ThunderDome at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida

Hell in a Cell is coming earlier this year. Brought forward from its usual October date, the cells is experiencing a summer showing in 2021. Last night on RAW, the first match was announced for hard hitting PPV.

While at the time of writing it has not been confirmed if the fight will actually take place in the Hell in a Cell structure, you have to image it will. Charlotte Flair fought in the first ever women’s cell fight in 2016. Rhea Ripley however has endured two separate War Games matches.

Both women are used to physical matches, and this, the first singles match between them promises to be a banger.

For Charlotte Flair, it represents the end of a lengthy road for the superstar, who last held a singles title eighteen months ago. The last time Flair held the RAW women’s championship was in early 2017.

Following a short reign as tag team champion, Charlotte wants to get back to being the queen of WWE.

She faces a tough test in Rhea Ripley. The 24-year-old Australian is a tough competitor, who has proven herself time and time again.

Whether fighting inside Hell in a Cell or not, this pairing has everything it takes to be the main event. Expect to see a match that will have people talking for years to come.

Hell in a Cell Brought Forward to June 20th

The WWE calendar is known to fluctuate from year to year, however, there are several that have found a regular slot. This includes Hell in a Cell which has been in October – for obvious reasons – ever since 2009.

This yeah, however, the hellacious event has been moved on the calendar. It will be happening in just 5 weeks’ time. This has the knock-on effect that means Money in the Bank – usually held in June – currently has no confirmed date. It could be pushed to July, but that would mean Extreme Rules has to be moved.

The Reason for Moving Hell in a Cell is Not Clear at This Stage

As of now, there is no reason given for the rescheduling. It is well known that WWE is planning to bring back live fans, possibly as early as SummerSlam. Therefore, it seems that the company feel Money in the Bank is the best choice for a live audience. It is a shame, as Hell in a Cell matches certainly thrive off the crowd reactions.

It makes sense in so far as the Money in the Bank event has two key matches that can shape the landscape of both male and female divisions for the next twelve months.

From a story perspective, moving Hell in a Cell to June works. There are a couple of current rivalries that could be nicely positioned for a Hell in a Cell clash. It just doesn’t feel right having the event in mid-summer. Cesaro and Rollins look set for a match between the mesh. Charlotte and Reah Ripley would be another. Another possibility would be an Uso vs Uso fight, but that rivalry is yet to get off the ground and could turn into an opportunity missed.

Either way, the timing of the move is strange, and it will be interesting to see how this impacts not only the current feuds but also the scheduling for the rest of the year. Either way, Hell in a Cell is always a fun PPV for the calendar, and with the return of live fans looming, there are exciting times ahead for the WWE universe.

Seth Rollins Discusses Fans Turning On Him After Hell In A Cell

Seth Rollins was once a universally loved babyface but fan opinion has started to diversify over the last few months and people have especially started criticizing his performance after his recent Hell In A Cell match against Bray Wyatt.

While appearing at the premiere episode of WWE’s new After The Bell podcast, the host Corey Graves asked the Universal Champion how he feels about the fans turning on him and the Architect gave a very honest answer.

Corey discussed how Seth used to be an internet darling during his run as Tyler Black in the independent circuit. The SmackDown commentator then asked the current champion how it feels to see fans turning on him and the former Shield member said that it feels awful:

“It feels awful. It’s not a good feeling to go out there and put your body on the line and not just at Hell In A Cell but every single night. I do what I have to do, when I have to do it.

It’s not always pretty but you go out there and you do your job and people don’t like it and they forget that it is what it is. And so it hurts your feelings. It’s fine, it’s art so you can have your opinion on it but man it’s a tough pill to swallow sometimes.”

Seth Rollins faced Bray Wyatt in a Hell In A Cell match at the WWE PPV of the same name earlier this month and fans highly criticized the fact that their Universal Championship match ended in a referee stoppage.

Apart from this, Rollins also discussed the WWE Universe panning down the Hell In A Cell main event and more. You can check out his comments in the video below and the find the full episode of the podcast on WWE Network:
