Rev Pro Announce International Tag Team Bout for Wrestlecon

Revolution Pro Wrestling has announced a huge International tag team bout for their Wrestlecon event during WrestleMania weekend in New Orleans.

The team of Hiroshi Tanahashi and Juice Robinson will be taking on one of the best up and coming tag teams on the UK independent scene in Aussie Open. We had this to say about the incredible duo as part of our ‘Best Emerging UK Tag Teams’ article earlier this year:

Comprising Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis, Aussie Open are one of the most dynamic and exciting teams to emerge from the UK scene in the past year. Having first formed in the ATTACK! promotion back in August they have been challenging for titles in the likes of HOPE, Rev Pro, IPW:UK and CZW which is an absolute testament to their talent and ability to gel so quickly as a unit. Aussie Open have a strong big man/little man dynamic almost akin to that of an early Hart Foundation, the stacked Mark Davis provides a powerful hot tag whilst teammate Kyle Fletcher has an agile flair to his in ring approach. If you are able to catch this team during Wrestlemania weekend in New Orleans (they will be performing on at least one card that weekend for Fight Club Pro) then you absolutely must, they are a force of nature and have no clear end in sight for their ability.

Hiroshi Tanahashi Off New Beginning Tour, NJPW Applies For Three New Trademarks

– Following his great match against Minoru Suzuki at night one of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s (NJPW) New Beginning, Hiroshi Tanahashi has been removed from the remainder of the tour due to acute osteoarthritis in his right knee. Suzuki defeated Tanahashi for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship via referee stoppage:

– Speaking of NJPW, PWInsider is reporting that the company has filed for three new trademarks; U.S.: Strong Style, King of Sports, and Strong Style Evolved. All three of the trademarks were filed for the use of clothing, however, Strong Style Evolved was also filed for categories such as the following:

“Educational and instruction services relating to arts, crafts, sports or general knowledge; arranging, conducting and organization of seminars; arranging, conducting and organization of conferences, lecture meeting, workshops, symposiums; production of radio or television programs; Production of videotape film in the field of education, culture, entertainment or sports (not for movies or television programs and not for advertising or publicity); organization, arranging and conducting of sports competitions; organization, arranging and conducting of martial arts; booking of seats for show; presentation of live show performances; presentation of magic performances; direction or presentation of plays; presentation of musical performances”

3 NJPW Feuds We Want To See For Chris Jericho

The 5-star bout between Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega at January 4th’s Wrestle Kingdom show was monumental for a number of reasons. Y2J’s unexpected return to Japan and his performance shocked many in the industry and showed that his claims to being the ‘Alpha’ of professional wrestling aren’t wildly off the mark.

It appears that Jericho will now be in NJPW for a stretch, his attack on Tetsuya Naito at the New Year Dash show will eventually lead to a bout between the two…but who else in the New Japan ranks would we like to see the ‘Ayatollah of Rock n Rolla’ face?

Here are three feuds we’d like to see for “The Alpha” Chris Jericho in New Japan:

Hiroshi Tanahashi

tanahashi

An icon of the Japanese wrestling scene, Hiroshi Tanahashi would be an ideal opponent for the reinvigorated Jericho. The two men have grown to define the styles that they represent, Tanahashi has sat atop the NJPW Heavyweight division and was a vital ingredient in the eventual rise of Kazuchika Okada, their feud defined the spirit of New Japan and brought a lot of expectant eyes to the product.

Jericho himself has graced the main event of Wrestlemania cards and is to many the definition of what an American pro wrestler should aspire to, a bout between these two stalwarts would be very different to that of the Alpha/Omega match and would be an excellent opportunity to see how the two could work at this stage in their respective careers.

Kota Ibushi

kota ibushi

Kota Ibushi is an enigma. Longtime fans of New Japan would agree that right now he should be in the main event scene and should be arguably one of the biggest stars on the planet…the issue is Kota simply refuses to stay in one place for any length of time, he also seems to like setting himself on fire.

That being said a bout between the ‘Golden Star’ and Y2J has blockbuster written all over it. The dynamically wild style of Ibushi clearly works with a more traditional ‘American heel’ persona, he proved this against Cody at Wrestle Kingdom, but imagine what he could achieve being paired off with one of the greatest (and despicable!) minds in the game?

2018 could end up being the year that Ibushi finally hits the heights that he is capable of and a feud with Jericho just before an opportunity to face longtime rival Kenny Omega at next year’s Wrestle Kingdom could be the ideal way to get him there.

Zack Sabre Jr

Zack Sabre Jr.

Many people would’ve put Kazuchika Okada on their list…but realistically Jericho probably won’t be going near the IWGP Championship during his run. That leads to our next pick in Zack Sabre Jr.

Sabre Jr is one of the most underrated stars from the recent explosion of popularity in the UK scene, fellow stars Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate and Will Ospreay are far more widely recognised even though ZSJ has performed in EVOLVE, New Japan and the WWE Cruiserweight Classic.

From a stylistic standpoint Jericho should mesh extremely well with the unique Sabre, this bout could be worked almost exclusively on the mat and Y2J’s penchant for embarrassing his opponents at their own game would hopefully lead to a submission-fest akin to some of Y2J’s early WWE and WCW work.

Discussion: Who would you like to see Jericho face in New Japan? Let us know in the comments.

Hiroshi Tanahashi Out with Injury

New Japan legend Hiroshi Tanahashi has been ruled out of the rest of the BOSJ tour due to a Bicep injury. Tanahashi was scheduled to appear in non-tournament bouts but has now been sidelined until at least June 9th.

According to New Japan’s official English language site NJPW1972.com:

Hiroshi Tanahashi suffered an injury during the recent North American tour.
Upon returning from the tour, doctors confirmed he has ruptured his right distal bicep tendon. In order to recover, Tanahashi will not compete in upcoming scheduled matches during the Best of the Super Jr. 24 tournament (May 18 through May 28th).
Satoshi Kojima will compete in his place during this time. Tanahashi’s estimated return to the ring will be June 9th at Korakuen Hall.

Hiroshi Tanahashi & The Addiction vs The Elite set for ROH War of The Worlds

Ring of Honor has announced the first bout as part of their co-branded War of The Worlds tour alongside New Japan Pro Wrestling.

NJPW legend Hiroshi Tanahashi will be teaming with ROH Champion Christopher Daniels and his Addiction tag team partner Kaz to take on the team of The Young Bucks & Kenny Omega.

Ring of Honor released a press release for this behemoth main event which you can read below:

“Kenny Omega returns to Ring of Honor for World of the Worlds Toronto to team with the ROH World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks in a dream six man tag team bout against ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels, Kazarian, and seven-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi!

“The Cleaner” has cemented himself as one of the biggest stars in wrestling, leading Bullet Club to unprecedented heights and championships around the globe under his leadership. Omega assumed control of Bullet Club after forcibly removing AJ Styles. His One-Winged Angel led him to become the first non-Japanese born star to ever win the G1 Climax last year. The victory led to one of the most talked-about matches in pro wrestling history against IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada at WrestleKingdom 11.

Omega and the ROH World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks are experienced trios competitors, representing a faction within Bullet Club they call The Elite. The trio has twice held the NEVER Openweight Six Men Tag Team Championships.

Standing across the ring from them are three equally accomplished stars. ROH World Champion Christopher Daniels, ahead of at least one ROH World Championship defense during the War of the Worlds Tour against Matt Taven, teams with long-time Addiction tag team partner and best friend Frankie Kazarian and the man that has held the IWGP Heavyweight Championship the most times for the most days in history, Hiroshi Tanahashi!

The battles, including Ladder War VI, between the Young Bucks and the Addiction are well-documented while Omega’s meteoric rise was due in some part to defeating seven-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship in 2016! But questions surround Bullet Club – rumors are abound that all is not right within their ranks. Can the first-time team of the World Champion, Kaz, and Tanahashi get on the same page and take advantage of this main event opportunity?

Like Kenny Omega, this six man tag team dream match CAN ONLY BE SEEN IN TORONTO! Tickets are already moving fast – don’t get locked out. See this HUGE main event and the stars of ROH and NJPW do battle at the Ted Reeve Arena on the War of the Worlds Tour!”
