House of Black Declare That They Have No More Leaders In New Video

House of Black has declared that they have no more leaders.

AEW has recently been teasing the reformation of the group featuring Julia Hart, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews as the faction’s leader Malakai Black prepares to exit the company.

Over the last few weeks, the trio have been told that they do not need a leader by people like Cope and Will Ospreay. This new direction of the group was confirmed in a vignette on this week’s Dynamite, where the three declared that they don’t have a guiding voice anymore:

“For years we’ve had a voice to guide us, that voice was all but deafening. Now that voice has gone silent and we’re done living in the shadows. It’s time to honor ourselves. No rules. No leaders. No gods. No masters. Just violence.”

Malakai Black joined the Elite promotion in 2021. Despite his singles success in WWE, the former NXT champion was put into this group and he’s never won a singles title in his four years with the company. Black’s contract is expected to expire sometime before March and it’s believed that he’s on his way back to WWE.

While AEW has teased the other members of his faction having singles run, it appears that they’ll continue operating as a group as well. A new trademark filing has also revealed the potential new name for them moving forward. You can check out more about it here.

AEW Teases House of Black’s Future Without Malakai Black

Rumors continue to circulate that fans have seen the last of Malakai Black in an AEW ring, months after fans last saw the former Trios Champion on programming. On Instagram, AEW shared a hype video for Brody King, Buddy Matthews and Julia Hart. Not only did the video omit Black, but the caption avoided mentioning the House of Black stable by name, and similarly avoided mentioning the group’s namesake.

This interesting post comes amid reports that Black is finishing his time with AEW. On TV, Buddy Matthews has been encouraged to break away from Black’s control, and pursue a singles run in 2025. Brody King has filed a trademark for the term ‘Hounds Of Hell’ which many are seeing as a new stable name that demonstrates AEW is moving forward without Black being a factor in plans.

Malakai Black: I’m Not Injured, Retiring, or Leaving AEW

All Elite Wrestling star Malakai Black is setting the record straight about his health and status with the company. Following a hard-fought loss to Adam Cole on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, Cole extended a his hand for handshake. Black took a moment, and instead embraced his longtime rival with a big hug.

Cole took a microphone and declared that Black is one of the best wrestlers he’s ever faced. The show of respect prompted a standing ovation from the live crowd. Fans immediately took to social media and speculated this signified Black is either taking another extended absense, or leaving the company entirely.

Malakai Black’s Statement

On Thursday morning, Black posted a video on Instagram to provide his side of the story. He expresses frustration about the rumors concerning his health and career, and urges fans to be respectful of his situation.

“I’m not injured nor am I retiring or am I leaving,” Black said. “I feel this happens every match I have, and I don’t understand how many times you’re going to say these things and then them not happening and people are still going to fall for that. I haven’t been injured in more than three years… I’m fine, I’ve been fine for the longest time. I would really appreciate it if that stuff stops, man.

If I’m going to retire, you’re going to hear it from me and not after Adam just cuts a promo just as a thank you for the match. Because that’s all it was. So, thank you.”

– Malakai Black

Malakai Black has kept an active schedule this year, and has wrestled 23 matches for AEW, most of which have been tag matches with his partners in the House of Black.

House Of Black Make AEW History With Win On (10/19) Collision

The House of Black has proven to be a force to be reckoned with since coming together in All Elite Wrestling in early 2022. On the latest episode of AEW Collision, the trio of Buddy Matthews, Brody King, and Malakai Black picked up yet another win and made history in the process.

The House of Black defeated Alpha Zo, Chris Nastyy, & Olumide on AEW Collision. As Tony Schiavone pointed out on commentary, this win makes the three men the most winningest trio in AEW history.

The trio of wrestlers have won 25 matches as a unit since first competing in AEW. The group’s first time teaming together came at AEW Revolution in March 2022, where they defeated PAC, Penta Oscuro, and Erick Redbeard. Since then, the group has gone on to get wins over Death Triangle, the Dark Order, the Elite, the Jericho Appreciation Society, and other notable three-person teams in AEW.

The House of Black are former AEW Trios Champion, with their 175-day reign being the second-longest in history (only behind The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn at 238 days.) Stay tuned to SEScoops for all the latest on the House of Black as the group continues to assert its dominance and make history in All Elite Wrestling.

Brody King Channels Greg Valentine After Adam Copeland Injury

Adam Copeland will be out with injury and Brody King wants The House Of Black to take credit for it.

Copeland revealed that he fractured his tibia in his barbed wire steel cage match against Malakai Black. The TNT Championship was on the line and despite the broken leg, Copeland came out on top in thanks to a surprise appearance from his old Brood buddy, Gangrel.

The former Edge took to social media to share the unfortunate news that he did hurt himself. The injury occurred when Copeland dove off the top of the cage to land on Black, but it obviously didn’t go as planned.

Adam did start off by saying that “The House always wins” and Brody King tends to agree with that assessment. During the bloody battle at Double Or Nothing in Las Vegas, King and Buddy Matthews teased that they would be aligning with Copeland, but it was all just a ruse in an effort to help Malakai Black.

Brody was clearly satisfied with the result of both the injury and the match. He happened to address the former by sharing a classic photo and tee shirt of Greg Valentine. ‘The Hammer’ notoriously broke the legendary Wahoo McDaniel’s leg and had a shirt made in homage to his accomplishment. King made a few changes. to Greg’s original garb, however.

The same night Copeland got injured is the very same night that the previously injured MJF made his return to the ring. It’ll be interesting to see the direction AEW takes with Copeland being unable to defend his TNT Championship.

Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match Set For AEW Double or Nothing 2024

AEW TNT Champion Adam Copeland hopes to end his war with The House of Black at Double or Nothing in the confines of a barbed wire-clad Steel Cage.

The match was made official on the May 15, episode of AEW Dynamite and comes after weeks of feuding between the two sides. Copeland will face Malakai Black at the upcoming pay-per-view. He has previously retained his title against both Buddy Matthews and Brody King.

Copeland had made the challenge following last week’s AEW Collision, where he retained the title against Kyle O’Reilly. On Dynamite, the Rated-R Superstar was mentally and physically tormented by the faction and both he and Reilly were attacked by the House of Black.

Backstage, Black accepted the challenge and accepted Copeland’s request for a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match. The Rated-R Superstar could lose more than his title though, as Black revealed that should he beat Copeland, the WWE Hall of Famer would bend his knee to the House of Black.

House of Black Responds To Claims Of Not Doing Jobs In AEW

In a recent segment on Wrestling Observer Radio, wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer highlighted the possibility of two current AEW roster members making a move to the Stamford-based promotion WWE.

Meltzer identified Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews as the two wrestlers who could potentially transition to WWE. Both Black and Matthews are presently associated with the House of Black faction, alongside Brody King and Julia Hart, within AEW.

The wrestling journalist was talking about the recent cage match between House of Black and Daniel Garcia & FTR on Saturday’s episode of Collision. The fight was originally announced as an Elimination bout but later changed to an Escape the cage match. Meltzer implied that the change was due to the House of Black not wanting to be pinned during the bout:

“[…] Malakai Black never does jobs, and when this was going on and I am watching this, one of the things I was thinking watching this is like, these freaking House of Black guys never do jobs. And here is the other thing. I was thinking what if they win this match and they are just going, like, two of those three guys are going to the WWE.”

Meltzer also remarked that both wrestlers are reluctant to take losses as they aim to maintain the strong image of their characters once they become free agents. He questioned why AEW continues to book them strongly when they are expected to leave for WWE.

“I mean, they are going. As soon as they can go, they are gone. Even though they were treated like shit in the WWE, and they never do jobs here, and they are still going back to the WWE. And my thought is kinda like, why do you keep putting them over when you know they are leaving?”

House of Black Responds

Multiple members of the faction took exception to these comments from Meltzer and reacted on social media. Matthews responded to Meltzer’s remarks with a picture of his AEW stats, stating that Dave lacked research skills.

“For a ‘Reporter,’ he doesn’t know much or do ANY research! Lol,” he commented.

The attached image displayed Matthew’s career stats in AEW, revealing that in 2024, he won one match and lost three. Overall, in his career, he won 25 matches and lost 13. These figures contradict Meltzer’s statement, as Matthews has indeed lost a considerable number of matches, if not the majority:

Brody King explained that the format of the match was always going to be Escape The Cage. Will Washington, who works as a coordinator for AEW came to his support confirming the reason for the graphic change:

While the wrestling journalist has not responded to these remarks from the AEW stars, this discourse seems to be far from over. Stay tuned for more updates on the situation

What Happened with the House of Black After AEW Rampage?

The House of Black proved that they are back and better than ever after this week’s AEW Rampage went off the air.

In September, both Malakai Black and Buddy Matthews announced they were taking separate breaks from AEW, which some believed at the time was a sign of a WWE return.

Instead, both men returned on the November 23, 2022, episode of AEW Dynamite, realigning with Julia Hart and Brody King.

After Rampage

In the main event of last night’s Rampage, AEW All-Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy retained his title in a Lumberjack match against QT Marshall.

A huge brawl broke between the lumberjacks after the match and when the lights went out, the House of Black emerged and cleared the ring of the performers.

After the show, the beatdown continued, with Brandon Cutler, who was taping the action on his Cutler Cam being singled out by the stable.

Brody King attacked Cutler from behind and put him through the table with a huge powerbomb.

Black told the fallen Cutley that while he has no problem with him, he has problems with those he associates with.

The trio walked away with Excalibur noting on commentary that the House of Black has declared war on AEW.

The House of Black Vs. The Elite

Black’s reference to those Culter associates with is a clear nod to the Elite, and the tease of a potential feud between the two stables.

Like the House of Black, the Elite only returned to AEW programming recently after being suspended for their roles in the All Out backstage fight.

Right now, Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks are 2-1 down in a best-of-seven series with AEW Trios Tag Champions Death Triangle.

WWE Legend on The House of Black Returning to AEW: “This is Like the First Season All Over Again”

Malakai Black, Brody King, Buddy Matthews, and Julia Hart, aka the House of Black, recently returned to AEW television after an extended absence from the promotion.

The House of Black was rumored to be released and on their way back to WWE at one point, but at the end of the day, they came back to All Elite Wrestling on the November 23rd edition of Dynamite.

Speaking on episode 459 of the Jim Cornette Experience, the WWE legend reviewed House of Black’s return on last week’s Dynamite. The group showed up following Orange Cassidy and Jake Hager’s match.

Then they had a blackout, and then spooky music came on, and then to a big pop from this crowd, on the stage was Stevie Nicks, I’m sorry Julia Hart.

She looks just like Stevie Nicks in the day and that is never a bad thing. When the lights come on, the House of Black is in the ring behind the pudding gang (Best Friends and Orange Cassidy).

I mean there’s Pockets (All-Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy) there’s Muffin Top Taylor, there’s Trent, whoever else is in that crowd.

And they beat up, the House of Black did, all of the pudding gang while QT Marshall’s The Factory was in the ring too, and they stood there and applauded it. So then the House of Black beat up The Factory too.

Cornette pointed out that the AEW fans were chanting “welcome back!” at these “satanic heels” after they beat everyone down.

And the people cheered and chanted welcome back at these satanic heels. So you had a match with a guy facing Jake Hager from the Jericho Appreciation Society.

And the guy Pockets, and his crew won the match, and then stayed in the ring so that the House of Black could come and beat them up. The Factory came down so they could get beat up too.

Through all of this heat-getting stuff, the people chanted “welcome back!” to the heels that worship satan. And then Malakai Black spoke and it all went to bleh.

Then they went to break. This is like the first season all over again. This is like they are trying to get the Dork Order (Dark Order) over again.

AEW stars make their return on Dynamite

After Orange Cassidy successfully defended the All-Atlantic Championship against Jake Hager, the lights went out. Instead of being Very Evil Danhausen, the lights came up to reveal Julia Hart surrounded by smoke and red lights.

The camera cut back to the ring to show House of Black take out Best Friends, Rocky Romero, and Cassidy. The Factory was happy to see this until they got attacked too. Security attempted to stop them to no avail. Malakai Black told the members of the House of Black to please rise.

House of Black Members Took Time Off

House of Black

Back in September, Malakai Black took time away from AEW. Due to a reported non-compete clause, fans speculated he was trying to go back to WWE. Black broke his silence to say he wasn’t leaving and just taking time off.

Shortly after, Buddy Matthews also stepped away from AEW to “recalibrate”. Brody King and Julia Hart confirmed that they were still in AEW, but weren’t used as much. During Full Gear, a vignette was shown of House of Black hinting at their return.

AEW Confirms the Return of the House of Black

The House of Black is set to return to AEW, and in full, the company has confirmed.

The group officially made its debut in January of this year, initially consisting of leader Malakai Black and Brody King.

The following month, Buddy Matthews would join the faction, which would recruit Julia Hart in May.

The Hiatus

At AEW All Out, Black, King and Matthews lost to the trio of Darby Allin, Sting, and Miro, and after the match, Black took a bow to the Chicago crowd.

Many saw this as a sign of Black’s exit from AEW, which was not the case, but the Dutch wrestler did confirm that he would be taking a break from wrestling for an unspecified time.

Not long after, Matthews would also announce his own hiatus from wrestling, though both confirmed they would return to AEW.

The Return

On Twitter, AEW’s official account shared a promo video highlighting the return of the House of Black.

All four members of the group appear in the video, hitting moves on various victims, intermixed with clips from their work on AEW programming.

An ominous voice warns that the human race has made “complacency and sub-par have become both standard and rewarded.”

New Members?

Could the House of Black be ready to welcome new members into its flock?

The four members of the House of Black were shown, but the video may have teased bringing in new members.

At moments in the video, masked figures were seen walking with the House of Black, which could be a sign that new members will soon be added.

Buddy Matthews On Recent Reports Of His AEW Status: “Fake, Fake, Fake, Fake”

Buddy Matthews is denying recent reports made about his status with All Elite Wrestling.

The House of Black member was trending yesterday after a promo he cut at Saturday’s Fight Life Pro Wrestling event surfaced, where the former NXT cruiserweight champion said he was stepping away from pro-wrestling to figure some things out. Matthews added that the things had been weird since the AEW release of Malakai Black, but that he appreciated the fans support since the group was formed earlier this year.

However, that would not be the end of the story. A report would emerge later in the day revealing that Matthews, like Malakai, was also unhappy with how his run with AEW was going, and that he could potentially be on his way out. It was not specified whether Matthews was trying to get out of his AEW contract, or if the company was attempting to get ride of him since the group’s plans fell through. His stablemate Brody King confirmed on Twitter that he wasn’t planning on leaving AEW anytime soon.

Matthews Has Denied The Reports

This would all spell disaster if not for one thing…Matthews calling all the recent reports lies. He took to Twitter late last night and released a GIF from the all time classic sitcom Seinfeld, which shows Elaine shouting out “Fake, Fake, Fake, Fake.”

To add fuel to the fire the AEW Twitter account shared a happy birthday post for Matthews, who just turned 34.

Stay tuned for more updates on the situation.

Brody King Reacts To Malakai Black & Buddy Matthews Reportedly Leaving AEW

The House of Black may have crumbled in All Elite Wrestling but Brody King isn’t going anywhere.

At AEW All Out, House of Black battled Miro, Darby Allin, and Sting in a Trios match. Malakai got a taste of his own medicine in the match as Sting spit the green mist in his eyes. Darby followed it up with the Coffin Drop for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Malakai Black stayed behind on the entrance ramp and waved goodbye to the crowd. He later would speak at an independent wrestling event and state that he needed time to “recalibrate”. Black also released a statement that can be read here.

Buddy Matthews and Brody King battled Sting and Darby Allin at Rampage: Grand Slam this past Friday night. This was apparently Buddy’s send-off from the company as he got green mist in his eyes as well. The Great Muta made a shocking appearance in AEW and helped Sting. Muta spat mist in Buddy’s eyes and Sting hit him with the Scorpion Death Drop for the victory.

Buddy appeared at a Fight Life Pro Wrestling event and confirmed he will be going away for a little while like Malakai Black. He used the word “recalibrate” as well and quoted Malakai saying “this isn’t goodbye, this is see you later.”

https://twitter.com/JustAlyxCentral/status/1574083000618389504?s=20&t=tpYpA_N-qTxmfD9DgODmbQ

The remaining House of Black members currently in All Elite Wrestling are Brodie King and Julia Hart.

Brody took to Twitter and shared the “I’m not leaving!” GIF from The Wolf of Wall Street. The 35-year-old signed with All Elite Wrestling in January 2022.

King battled Jon Moxley for the AEW Interim Championship on the July 6th edition of Dynamite but came up short. It will be interesting to see what lies ahead for Brody in AEW.

Buddy Matthews Announces Hiatus from Pro Wrestling – AEW Future Uncertain

Buddy Matthews is the latest prominent name who won’t be competing on AEW programming anymore, as confirmed by the Australian wrestler.

Matthews joined AEW in February 2022 and immediately aligned himself with Malakai Black and Brody King of The House of Black.

Shortly after AEW President Tony Khan made his signing official on social media.

Leaving AEW

During the most recent Fight Life Pro Wrestling event, Matthews cut a promo following his match and confirmed his departure from AEW

“Tonight, I’m going to be the bearer of some unfortunate news. As everyone knows, the House of Black has had some issues lately. As all the members of the house, I’m speaking for them all, we want to thank you all for being members of the house.

“Unfortunately, I, like some of the other members, need to go away for a while. I need to recalibrate. I need to figure out some things. As my brother Malakai once said, this isn’t goodbye, this is see you later.”

Matthews did not make reference to his contract with AEW, or if his hiatus will result in his departure from the promotion.

The Fall of the House of Black

Matthews is the latest prominent name to finish up work with AEW, after Malakai Black announced his departure earlier this month.

Black had his initial requested release refused, but was later granted a “conditional release” by Tony Khan.

Despite reports that Black was seeking a lengthy, possibly permanent break from wrestling, it has since been reported that he has expressed interest in a return to WWE.

It is not known at this time if Matthews is also interested in a return to the promotion, which has seen several returns since Vince McMahon’s retirement.

Malakai Black Granted Conditional Release from AEW (Report)

Amid the chaos surrounding the events that transpired following Sunday’s All Out pay-per-view, another performer has quiet been granted a release from the company.

Malakai Black, leader of the House of Black faction, is reportedly done with All Elite Wrestling. The Dutch-born star joined the promotion back in 2021, where he began a hot feud with Cody Rhodes. He also built the House of Black, a menacing faction comprised of Brody King, Buddy Matthews and Julia Hart.

In recent weeks, it’s been reported that Black has been dealing with personal issues and was considering taking a hiatus from pro wrestling. On Wednesday, Fightful reported that AEW talent is of the belief that Black has been granted a ‘conditional’ release. Although the terms of the release have not been made public, one would assume AEW President Tony Khan has allowed him to leave AEW with the condition that he cannot sign with WWE until the duration of their original agreement.

Just weeks ago (late July), Khan stated, on Busted Open Radio, “Malakai Black has almost five years left on his deal. I wouldn’t expect him going anywhere anytime soon.”

The news comes after Black bowed and waved goodbye to the Chicago crowd following the House of Black’s loss to Sting, Miro, and Darby Allin at Sunday’s All Out pay-per-view.

What Happens With The House Of Black

The faction hit an unfortunate rough patch with Black being banged up and Buddy Matthews going down with injury, which kept them from any major storylines on AEW programming.

AEW has yet to confirm the release of Black publicly, but with the ongoing drama between CM Punk and The Elite, it’s understandable that announcing the loss of a big star is not their top priority.

Find Out Why Buddy Matthews Missed AEW Dynamite

Buddy Matthews was absent from the July 6 episode of Dynamite and the reason has been disclosed.

Matthews’ stablemate, Brody King, of House of Black competed against Jon Moxley of the Blackpool Combat Club in a match for the interim AEW World Championship.

King lost to Moxley but received respect from Sting and Darby Allin because of his abilities. Brody rejected the handshake and left with Malakai Black.

Buddy Matthews Misses Dynamite

As a part of the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer stated that Buddy Matthews didn’t appear with the House of Black because he’s currently doing a tour in Australia for World Series Wrestling.

Meltzer also added that the ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham was also booked for the tour initially and that Brian Cage is currently on the tour.

Meltzer wrote:,

“Buddy Matthews wasn’t on TV this week with the House of Black because he’s home in Australia doing a tour for World Series Wrestling.

Jonathan Gresham was also scheduled for that tour but pulled by AEW since they needed him in the U.S. to do his heel turn and build the ROH PPV this week.”

“Brian Cage also went on the tour and in theory he should be on the ROH show since on the last PPV he was managed by Tully Blanchard, but has not done any AEW television with Blanchard of late.”

Matthews’ Injury

Buddy last wrestled for AEW as a part of the June 22 AEW Dark: Elevation taping. The House of Black member recently disclosed that he has been dealing with a shoulder injury. However, he is still wrestling. He recently wrestled for PWG and faced Mike Bailey during the July 3 PWG Nineteen show.

Jim Cornette Thinks AEW Had “Worst Segment” Ever On Wrestling TV

Jim Cornette isn’t one to mince words and he isn’t about to start now.

The legendary manager has become a controversial figure over the years. Some believe that Cornette’s rants have blackballed him from the industry. There are still a group of fans who support him through his podcast, The Jim Cornette Experience.

Oftentimes, Jim reminisces about the old days and slams people he doesn’t like. His weekly shots towards AEW have also become a big part of his podcast.

Jim Cornette Rips AEW Segment Apart

Jim Cornette has made it clear that he isn’t a fan of what AEW is doing with Malakai Black, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews. Cornette believes the House of Black faction “sucks” due to bad creative direction.

He certainly didn’t change his mind during the May 4 episode of Dynamite. On the show, Julia Hart, who had been teasing a heel turn ever since being sprayed with mist by Malakai back in late 2021, looked ready to attack Brian Pillman Jr. with a chair but ultimately didn’t.

Cornette went off on the segment during his podcast (h/t ewrestlingnews.com):

“This was the worst segment I have ever seen on wrestling television because there was no redeeming value to this. This material was so horrible that nobody cared.

Anybody who came up with this story should be sent away to prison. There’s no punishment too heinous. Nobody should have been forced to watch this.

You send the kid [Brian Pillman Jr] to tell this story, which is hokey b****t. He tried so hard that he ended up screaming and squeaking, trying to put his soul into it for the rotten creative.”

In fairness to Jim, this segment has actually been widely panned online. A big criticism has to do with teasing the Hart turn for far too long.

Another problem many had with the segment is that it made the babyfaces, Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison, look weak. The two called out House of Black and when the group showed up, the faces just froze and got stomped out.

Jim Cornette Says AEW Knows The House Of Black Sucks

Wrestling personality Jim Cornette has blasted AEW’s House of Black, saying that the stable sucks and that the company knows it.

The House of Black debuted in January 2022 and originally consisted of Malakai Black and Brody King, with Buddy Matthews being added the following month.

While speaking on his podcast, Jim Cornette Experience, Cornette made the claim that AEW believes the stable sucks, but are pushing them regardless. He added:

“Maybe this is why they’re constantly in the dark, because they know that it sucks and they don’t want people to get a good close look at it so that’s why they’re always in the dark. Let’s cover that sh*t up, don’t. Here you’re trying to sell this sub-standard product, control the lighting, subdued lighting. Just do not let anyone get a close look at it.”

The House of Black is feuding with Death Triangle, with a six-man-tag match between the two stables expected for AEW Double or Nothing 2022.

Double or Nothing 2022 will take place on May 29, 2022 from the T-Mobile Arena, in Paradise, Nevada.
