MLW Underground Results (2/28/23), Davey Richards vs. John Hennigan

Major League Wrestling held their weekly episode Underground on Feb. 28 at 10 PM ET/ 7 PM PT on Reelz TV.

The episode had MLW National Openweight Champion Davey Richards defend his title against John Hennigan. The match was set up last week after Hennigan attacked Richards, and the champion wanted revenge.

MLW fans can watch Underground if they have select cable providers like Direct TV, Verizon Fios, or Spectrum. For people without cable, you can only watch it on Sling TV or Philo. Reelz TV has a page on its website for where to find the channel, depending on your zip code.

MLW Underground Quick Results (2/28)

The episode starts with a recap from last week’s episode. We get a video package hyping the MLW National Openweight Championship match.

  • After the video package, we see Alex Kane call out Davey Boy Smith Jr. and the Billington Bulldogs on the MLW’s stage ramp. Smith and the Billington Bulldogs come out and get into a quick brawl against Kane and the Bomaye Fight Club. The backstage officials separate them, but Smith lands an elbow to Kane’s face before we start the episode.
  • Lince Dorado & Mircoman def. Delirious & Mini Abismo Negro via a quick pin from Mircoman on Negro. After the match, the lights go off, and a group of masked people enter the ring to attack Dorado and Microman as we go to a commercial break.
  • After the commercial break, we get an off-site segment with MLW World Heavyweight Champion Alex Hammerstone. He speaks about getting the squid from a masked person last week. He believes that Jacob Fatu and The Samoan Swat Team are behind it. He tells Fatu and his faction to do better next time.
  • After the Hammerstone segment, we get another off-site segment with Mance Warner, 1 Called Manders, & Matthew Justice. Justice and Manders bail Warner out of jail for hitting Real1 with a car last week. They tease that the group will start competing in MLW.
  • Billie Starkz def. Kayla Kassidy with a variation of Electric Chair into a piledriver.
  • We get an interview with Taya Valkyrie on the stage ramp. Valkyrie shared her excitement for Hennigan being in MLW and says they will both be champions. Starkz goes to confront Valkyrie, and she respects what she does. However, before Starkz can say anything else, Valkyrie dismisses her and believes she isn’t good enough to wrestle her.
  • We get a backstage segment with Kane. He says that if The Billington Bulldogs defeat Myron Reed and Mr. Thomas, he will accept a challenge against Smith.
  • We cut to a backstage segment with Juicy Finau and E.J. Nduka having a brawl backstage before MLW goes to a commercial break.
  • John Hennigan def. (C) Davey Richards with Valkyrie and Cesar Duran for the National Openweight Championship after Valkyrie hit Richards with the MLW Women’s Featherweight Championship.

After the match, head coach at American Top Team Dan Lambert and King Mo cut a promo on the referee and Low Ki. King Mo said at ATT they don’t tap or submit and the next time him and Low Ki face each other, he’s going to break him in half.

Bu Ku Dao Pulls Off Big Upset

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1385021666418376704

TJP turned heel by turning on his protege Bu Ku Dao recently in MLW. TJP said that Dao just wasn’t pulling his weight when the two had teamed up together. Dao would get revenge on his former mentor in this week’s main event, however. After a back-and-forth match, Dao overcame a referee bump (when he’d had TJP down for a 3 count) to hit a spinning flatliner and get the pin. What a win for Bu Ku Dao!

Hammerstone Challenges Jacob Fatu

Before the show came to a close this week, we got a snippet from a press conference with Alexander Hammerstone. Your boy Hammer said he was tired of the debate regarding who is the best between MLW’s two champions. He called out MLW World Champion Jacob Fatu for what will be a giant main event match.

“Jacob Fatu, the ball is in your court. The challenge is out there.”

MLW Never Say Never Results (3/31): Jacob Fatu vs Calvin Tankman

Major League Wrestling presented a special branded episode of Fusion last night. The main event featured Jacob Fatu of Contra Unit defending his MLW World Championship against Calvin Tankman.

The full episode can be viewed in the player below:

MLW Never Say Never Quick Results:

  1. Jordan Oliver defeated Simon Gotch
  2. Myron Reed defeated Daivari
  3. MLW World Championship
Jacob Fatu (c) defeated Calvin Tankman

Jordan Oliver defeats Simon Gotch

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1377399558427320325

Injustice’s Jordan Oliver picked up a win in the night’s opening contest over his rival from Contra Unit, Simon Gotch. These two factions have been feuding for some time now and with the win, Olliver put his faction in the lead.

Gotch got in some early submission attempts and had control initially but Oliver battled back. After having multiple springboard cutter attempts thwarted during the match, Oliver finally hit it on his 3rd try and got the 3-count.

It’s a big win for Oliver, who picks up a measure of revenge after dropping his title match against Fatu recently.

Further Dragongate Involvement in MLW Teased

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1377441092388356101

MLW is promoting that its relationship with the Dragongate promotion will continue into 2021. There have been rumors as of late that DAZN is hoping MLW and the Japanese promotion will throw a joint event in Hawaii. Hopefully, it will be much more organized than Tom Lawlor’s sketchy “Filthy Island” event.

Myron Reed Defeats Daivari

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1377403333376274434

The second match between Contra Unit and Injustice saw Myron Reed pick up a victory over Daivari. The crafty veteran from Contra Unit opted to focus on Reed’s leg and ankle in an attempt to gain the advantage. Reed was able to thwart off Daivari’s offense, however, and then deliver his own. He landed a cutter followed by a vest-assisted springboard 450 splash for the win. With that, Injustice has won the series vs Contra Unit but up next is the most important match of the night. Calvin Tankman has been loosely aligned with Injustice as of late and will attempt to defeat Jacob Fatu for the MLW title.

Gino Medina vs Richard Holliday For the Caribbean Championship – April 14th

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1377404990755602434

Alicia Atout hosted an interview with Gino Medina and Richard Holliday this week. Holliday and Medina can’t seem to agree on whether Medina was fired from the Dynasty or he quit. The two bicker for sometime, with Atout once complaining that Holliday wears too much cologne. Doesn’t seem like Holiday liked that.

Holiday and Medina will face each other on the April 14th show in what is now the second title match booked for that event.

Jacob Fatu Needs Contra Unit’s Help To Defeat Calvin Tankman

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1377409737206140928

Two big heavyweights clashed over the world title in the Never Say Never main event this week. While the champion has been used to much smaller opponents during his reign, he would not enjoy such an advantage in this title defence.

The finish of the match came as Tankman was ramping up the offence. He’d scored near falls after a backbreaker and a lariat. This caused Daivari to attempt to interfere but Tankman fought him off. With the referee’s attention diverted, however, Fatu hit Tankman with the Contra flag. He then went to the top and delivered his moonsault for the win.

Fatu retains his title yet again, but Tankman had him on the run, forcing him to resort to underhanded tactics to gain the victory.

Coming Up In MLW

MLW presents a classic episode next week but then presents a big show. After that, there are two title matches booked for the April 14th show.

MLW Fusion – April 14th

MLW Fusion Results (3/24): Von Erichs vs Team Filthy Chain Match

  2. Mil Muertes defeated Gringo Loco

Gino Medina Uses Under-Handed Tactics To Score Victory Over Zenshi

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1374862382653132805

Gino Medina took a shortcut to victory this week when he faced Zenshi in singles competition. Zenshi had just hit a kick in the corner and looked as though he was in control. Medina then rolled him up into a small package for a 2-count but as Zenshi kicked out, Medina grabbed at his mask and nearly removed it. As Zenshi was adjusting his mask, Medina hit a question-mark style kick to the back of the head and got the pin.

Mil Muertes Picks Up Win, Will Face Alexander Hammerstone On April 14th

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1374866302700023812

Azteca Underground’s Mil Muertes came out for his match with Gringo Loco this week wearing Alexander Hammerstone’s National Openweight Championship. Muertes stole the title from Hammer recently after Salina de la Renta suggested she wanted the belt in her stable.

Muertes put away Loco with the Straight To Hell flatliner. After the match, Hammerstone cut a backstage promo and agreed to give Muertes a shot at the title belt he stole on April 14th.

Later in the show, Salina said she agreed to Hammerstone’s challenge. El Jefe’s representative then told her that the proprietor of Azteca Underground was not happy and wants to meet with her.

Calvin Tankman Makes Quick Work Of Sendai Death Squad Member

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1374868873770582017

1-week before he takes on Contra Unit’s Jacob Fatu for the MLW World Championship, Calvin Tankman made quick work of a Sendai Death Squad member on this week’s edition of Fusion.

After the match, Daivari, Simon Gotch, and Jacob Fatu marched to the ring. The members of Injustice then came out to help Tankman and a wild brawl erupted. Tankman gave Daivari the Tankman Driver and stood tall in the ring to end the segment.

Chain Match Between The Von Erichs and Team Filthy Headlines Fusion

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1374873282172776454

Tom Lawlor removed himself from this match on short notice citing injuries. MLW league officials are a little skeptical of his claims, however. Instead of a 6-man match with the Von Erichs teaming with ACH, the match was changed to a 2-on-2 contest with Lawlor and ACH both removed from the bout.

The ropes were replaced with chains for this bout, creating a unique match environment. Lawlor was on the outside with his arm in a sling and frequently got involved in the match. The finish came when Lawlor attempted to toss brass knuckles into his stablemates but missed and they landed in the hands of Marshall Von Erich. He decked Kevin Ku and then delivered the Iron Claw-slam with his brother on Garrinni for the win.

Jacob Fatu Retains MLW World Championship

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1367278622558412801

The Contra Unit and Injustice rivalry had its biggest match to date this week when Jordan Oliver challenged Jacob Fatu for the MLW World Championship. Fatu picked up the win after a Samoan Drop followed by his patented top-rope moonsault. After the match, the members of Contra Unit continued the attack on both Reed and Oliver. Members of the Sentai Death Squad ran in with body bags to place the Injustice members in.

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1367279122548879361

The big heavyweight Calvin Tankman would make the save, however. He both protected Injustice from a further beatdown and puts himself in the conversation for a future title shot against Fatu.

Injustice Prevent Contra Unit From Winning Tag Team Gold

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1367267294464929797

Simon Gotch and Daivari of Contra Unit received a tag-team title match against Los Parks this week. Los Parks attempted their normal routine of bringing in a fresh member of the family from under the ring to enter the match illegally. The referee thwarted this attempt, however. While the referee was distracted, Jordan Oliver and Myron Reed of Injustice interfered and allowed LA Park to hit a spear on Daivari for the win.

Parrow Wants To Be The Most Dominant Heavyweight In MLW

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1367269307797880832

Before Mike Parrow hit the ring for his match against Jason Dugan this week, clips of an interview with him were shown. Parrow said he wants to be the most dominant heavyweight in the promotion. He made quick work of Dugan, pinning him after delivering his patented “Murder Bomb.” After the match, Parrow cut a promo on Azteca Underground’s Mil Muertes, setting up a future heavyweight clash.

Calvin Tankman Defeats Laredo Kid

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1367272830950281216

Mike Parrow wasn’t the only heavyweight to leave a mark on this episode of MLW Fusion. Calvin Tankman picked up a win over Laredo Kid. It took awhile for Tankman to wear down his opponent enough to deliver a Tankman Driver, but once he did, it was all over. After the match, Tankman said he wants the added money that comes with being MLW World Champion and called out Jacob Fatu.

Dynasty Alliance With Alicia Atout Brewing?

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1367273585988038659

There are people who believe the Dynasty’s Richard Holliday has developed a bit of a thing for Alicia Atout. The commentator and “Interview Queen” has been feuding with Salina de la Renta as of late and this week Salina said she wants Alexander Hammerstone’s National Openweight gold in her stable. She also referred to Holliday as Atout’s “boy toy.” Richard Holliday promised Atout that the Dynasty would handle the situation.

MLW Fusion (1/20): Injustice Spoils Contra Unit’s Clean Sweep

MLW Fusion on 1/20 featured a World Championship match between Jacob Fatu and ACH. Two other members of Contra Unit were also in action last night as Simon Gotch took on Jordan Oliver and Daivari faced Zenshi.

The full show can be viewed in the player below:

MLW Fusion 1/20 Quick Results:

  1. Daivari (Contra Unit) defeated Zenshi
  2. Simon Gotch (Contra Unit) defeated Jordan Oliver (Injustice)
  3. MLW World Championship
Jacob Fatu (Contra Unit) (c) defeated ACH

Here are 6 key takeaways from MLW Fusion 1/20:

Daivari Picks Up First Win For Contra Unit

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1352046500646277123

While Josef Samael isn’t able to physically be in the venue for recent MLW events, he’s added new troops since the restart. In addition to “The Black Hand of Contra” Mads Krugger, the faction has added Daivari to its ranks as well.

The finish of this match came when Zenshi missed a 450 splash and Daivari hit a hammerlock short-arm clothesline for the win.

Caribbean Strap Match Scheduled

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1352047507438649345

Savio Vega is finally going to get his hands on Richard Holliday. He might even get his Caribbean Championship belt back. Holliday has been proclaiming himself as the title-holder for months, despite not officially defeating Vega for it. This week, Savio Vega sent in a promo and promised to use the very same strap that he and Steve Austin beat each other with on Holliday. Later in the show, Holliday said he would accept the terms in the contract he was sent for the match.

This long-running feud will reach a boiling point next week when Richard Holliday faces Savio Vega in a Caribbean Strap Match.

Simon Gotch Picks Up 2nd Win For Contra Unit

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1352049017304322056

We were supposed to get this match at Kings of the Colosseum but Gotch went MIA for the event, only returning to aid in a Contra Unit assault on Injustice. While Jordan Oliver provided significant competition for Gotch, it would be the Contra member’s submission skills that would earn him the victory here. The finish of the match came when Oliver springboarded off the ropes but was caught in a sleeper by Gotch. The ref called for the bell but Gotch wasn’t done. He held onto the submission after the bell and then gave Oliver a Gotch-driver.

Jacob Fatu Retains Title Over ACH

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1352056315380703236

ACH went into his title match against Jacob Fatu with taped up ribs. This was due to an attack that took place outside his gym. It’s not clear who attacked ACH, but he would say he thought he heard the voice of Dominic Garrini from Team Filthy. Is Tom Lawlor upset that ACH is getting a title shot before him? Lawlor denied these allegations when confronted with them by Alicia Atout earlier.

ACH took a beating in the early parts of the match. He mounted a comeback despite his injuries, however. He hit a springboard cutter, a hurricanrana, and an enziguri but Fatu countered with a hard kick and followed that up with a pop-up Samoan Drop and then his springboard moonsault finish for the win.

Injustice Spoils Contra Unit’s Clean Sweep

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1352056566984241158

It seemed as though nothing could go wrong for Contra Unit on this night. They’d won all 3 matches on the card including Jacob Fatu defending the World Championship. As Daivari and Fatu were cutting a promo on the stage at the end of the night, they were suddenly attacked by two flag-bearing members of the Sentai Death Squad. As the two members unmasked, they were revealed to be Jordan Oliver and Myron Reed of Injustice. Contra Unit may have won all 3 matches this night, but it would be Injustice who would close the show getting the last laugh.

Also this week in MLW

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1352051534004043776
  • Tom Lawlor and Team Filthy denied allegations that they attacked ACH before his match with Jacob Fatu. His faction found a creative way to pronounce “ACH” but said they aren’t worried about him and are focussing on the coming debut of “Filthy Island.”
  • Salina de la Renta blew off Alicia Atout’s questions about the change of ownership regarding Promociones Dorado. Salina says the only thing anyone should be worried about is what Mil Muertes is going to do next.
  • Mads Krugger cut a promo directed at Alexander Hammerstone. The two wrestlers fought to a draw at Kings of the Colosseum but now they will square off in 2 weeks in a Baklei Brawl.

MLW Signs Jacob Fatu Until 2025

Major League Wrestling has locked up their World Champion, Jacob Fatu, until 2025. According to a report from ESPN, Fatu and MLW agreed to a contract extension to keep the Contra Unit member in the promotion for four more years.

“Major League Wrestling has signed its heavyweight champion Jacob Fatu to a contract extension, sources told ESPN on Thursday. MLW penned Fatu to a deal in late 2019 and this new one extends it four more years, into late 2025, per sources,” an ESPN report reads.

Fatu is part of the famed Anoa’i family. His father is Sam Fatu (aka Tama from the Islanders, The Tonga Kid, and Tama Somoa). He is cousins with the Usos. Rikishi is his uncle.

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1286420860707000328

Fatu is just the 7th person to win the MLW World Championship. In part due to the global pandemic and MLW ceasing to run shows, Fatu is the longest-reigning MLW World Champion of all time. As of this writing, he has held the title for 377 days. He won the title from Tom Lawlor on July 6th, 2019 at Kings of the Colosseum in Cicero, Illinois.

MLW is currently airing episodes from the “underground” series from its original run. Court Bauer has said the promotion won’t run events until it is safe to do so. In storyline, MLW has been taken over by Fatu’s Contra Unit, explaining why shows are not currently taking place.

MLW Fusion #100 Quick Results:

  1. Davey Boy Smith Jr. defeated Erick Stevens
  2. Brian Pillman Jr. defeated Jimmy Havoc
  3. MLW World Heavyweight Championship: Jacob Fatu (c) defeated CIMA

Jacob Fatu Retains, Despite Solid Effort From CIMA

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1236743492853891073

Jacob Fatu is arguably the most dominant champion in MLW world heavyweight championship history. Coming into this match, few if anyone would have given CIMA a chance to take the belt here. The member of Stronghearts did manage to give Fatu a surprising run for his money, however.

CIMA must have known that he would need to take risks if he was to gain the advantage on the champ but the end of the match came when he missed a top rope move and Fatu countered into a pop-up Samoan drop. The champion then went to the top and delivered a devastating moonsault but was then instructed by Josef Samael on the outside to deliver one more for good measure before pinning his challenger and retaining his title.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. Defeats Erick Stevens

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1236524547546820608

Eric Stevens recently aligned with Tom Lawlor and Team Filthy but he was in tough this week as he took on the 2019 Opera Cup winner Davey Boy Smith Jr.

The end of the match came when Stevens attempted to go off the top rope but was caught by Davey Boy who then delivered his Calgary Stampede Powerslam followed by a diving headbutt for the win. After the match, Davey Boy got in the faces of Lawlor and Garrini, the other members of Team Filthy. Lawlor had been on commentary during the match.

Brian Pillman Jr. defeated Jimmy Havoc Despite Priscilla Kelly’s Interference

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1236728392462057473

Rookie of the Year Brian Pillman jr. faced Jimmy Havoc this week on Fusion. In Havoc’s corner was “Hell’s Favorite Harlot” Priscilla Kelly and she did not hesitate to interject herself into the match. Throughout the course of the contest, Kelly put Havoc’s leg on the ropes to break up a pin, handed him a foreign object, and as the match wore on she even came off the top rope for an attempted cross-body block.

Pillman was able to thwart all of this, however. As Kelly was coming off the top, he avoided her attack and allowed her to crash into Havoc instead. Moments later, the Hart Foundation member would hit Air Pillman for the win.

Brian Pillman Jr. and Injustice’s Rivalry Continues To Build

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1236476550268235776

Pillman didn’t have to worry about the members of Injustice getting involved in his match against Jimmy Havoc this week as the trio had been banned from the building. MLW cameras caught Injustice trying to get into the building but they were turned away by security. During the course of this interaction, Jordan Oliver repeatedly stated that he would stab Pillman.

We’ve also heard that while Pillman has normally been competing at around 220 lbs, he will look to the keto diet to drop 15 pounds to the 205-pound middleweight limit. This will allow him to challenge Myron Reed for the title he took off Pillman’s Hart Foundation teammate Teddy Hart who has since left the territory. Before Reed can worry about Pillman, however, he must face Laredo Kid for the title next week.

Richard Holliday’s Caribbean Championship Reign Continues

Richard Holliday from the Dynasty is currently in possession of the Caribbean Championship title belt. He took that title off of Savio Vega but not by defeating him for it but rather by literally taking it from him after a recent match.

This week on Fusion, viewers were informed that Holliday defended the title on a private island earlier this week. Footage of this supposed title defense was not shown, however, and likely doesn’t exist. It sounds like the Dynasty had a great time on the island, and the trio discussed how Holidays’ new title belt is the 1A belt in the promotion alongside Alexander Hammerstone’s National Openweight belt. One has to wonder how these comments sat with the legitimate Caribbean Championship, Savio Vega.

MLW Fusion Results & 6 Takeaways (2/8/20)

Major League Wrestling presented an episode of Fusion from Texas on BeIN Sports and YouTube this weekend. The show featured an MLW World Championship match between Contra Unit’s Jacob Fatu defending against Hart Foundation’s Brian Pillman Jr.

MLW Fusion 2/8/20 Quick Results:

  2. Richard Holliday defeated Savio Vega
  3. MLW World Championship
Jacob Fatu (c) defeated Brian Pillman Jr.

Here are 6 takeaways from MLW Fusion 2/8/20:

Jacob Fatu Retains Over Brian Pillman Jr. Thanks To Injustice

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1226702327161032706

Brian Pillman Jr. had the biggest match of his young career this week on Fusion. He challenged Jacob Fatu for the MLW World Championship. Earlier in the evening, the members of Contra Unit attempted to attack Pillman as he entered the building but Davey Boy Smith Jr. helped him fend the stable off.

Pillman spent much of the early part of the match taking damage from Fatu’s offense but managed to make a comeback late. As he was going for a springboard move from the outside, Josef Samael got up on the apron and distract the referee. The members of Injustice (who have been in a rivalry with Pillman since the Opera Cup) came out to ringside. Pillman turned his attention to them and jumped on top of Jordan Oliver and Kotto Brazil on the outside. Myron Reed then hit Pillman with the loaded chest protector and tossed him back in the ring where the champion was waiting.

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1226709875809488896

After Pillman initially kicked out from a standing moonsault, Fatu then hit a jumping moonsault from the top rope. Fatu then gave him another one for good measure and got the pin.

Cameras cut to the back where Davey Boy Smith Jr. and the Von Erichs were in a backstage brawl with Contra Unit’s Sentai Death Squad.

Texas Does Not Like Tom Lawlor

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1226392786494201858

The Dallas live crowd was not happy to see Tom Lawlor considering Lawlor’s recent actions towards the beloved Von Erich boys. Lawlor opened this week’s show cutting a promo in the middle of the ring while wearing a Von Erichs T-shirt. The Texas crowd chanted for Lawlor to remove the Von Erich shirt. He obliged but then shoved the shirt in his pants before tossing it into the crowd (the crowd tossed it back). Lawlor then introduced Team Filthy member Dominic Garrini for his match against Zenshi.

Dominic Garrini Defeated Zenshi

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1226694776482926594

Zenshi unleashed many high-flying Lucha-inspired moves during the match but Garrini was able to counter with his jiu-jitsu based submission offense. At one point, Zenshi appeared to have been injured and a medic entered the ring to check on him but Garrini wouldn’t let up and continued the attack. He locked in an armbar and the referee called for the bell.

After the match, Lawlor said to Alicia Atout that from here on out, Team Filthy would show no mercy.

Later in the show, Zenshi would be interviewed in the back by Atout and said he wants revenge.

Richard Holliday Defeated Savio Vega

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1226543781337391105

Maxwell Jacob Friedman joined the commentary team as his Dynasty stablemate Richard Holliday took on Savio Vega in single’s competition this week. The Dynasty looks to be in good hands with Gino Medina, Alexander Hammerstone, and Richard Holliday set to run things as MJF exits the territory. MJF still has a little time left in MLW, however.

Holliday picked up the win with his “2008” slam. After the match, MJF and Holliday stole Savio Vega’s Carribean Championship title belt.

The Dynasty To Produce Next Week’s Episode of Fusion

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1226735783723327489

The Dynasty was interviewed in the back by Alicia Atout this week. They noted that Richard Holliday’s lawyer/father had arranged for them to produce next week’s episode. Medina will be taking on Septimo Dragon, Hammerstone will face Aerostar for the National Openweight title and MJF and Holliday will challenge for the MLW tag team championships as they get their rematch against the Von Erichs.

6 Takeaways From MLW Fusion 1/4

Major League Wrestling presented a new episode of Fusion on BeIN Sports and YouTube this weekend. The show featured a semi-final match in the Opera Cup and was headlined by Contra Unit taking on Strong Hearts from OWE.

Here are 6 takeaways from MLW Fusion 1/4:

Tom Lawlor Defeats An Imposter Von Erich

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1213931928719507456

Tom Lawlor said he was going to take on a member of the Von Erichs this week but neither Ross nor Marshall seemed to know anything about this. Lawlor then unveiled it was the son of Lance “Von Erich” he would be taking on in Rip Von Erich. Lance Von Erich was billed as a Von Erich cousin in 1985 but was not actually related to the family.

Lawlor didn’t have much trouble with the imposter Von Erich, who even tried an Iron Claw attempt during the match. Lawlor won with a rear-naked Iron Claw to further insult the Von Erich family legacy, however. He would get on the mic after the match and further antagonize Ross and Marshall.

The Spirit Squad Align With Tom Lawlor Against The Von Erichs

Screenshot 2020 01 06 10.20.19

After Lawlor defeated Rip Von Erich this week he got on the mic and referred to Marshall and Ross Von Erich as a bunch of “Hawaiian Hillbillies” which brought the brothers out from the back. Lawlor had likely foreseen this happening, however, and was prepared. The members of the Spirit Squad came out from the back, giving them and Lawlor the numbers advantage over the boys.

It looks like Lawlor has enlisted the help of the cheerleading team in his rivalry with Ross and Marshall. It wouldn’t be the last time we would hear from Lawlor during the show either.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. Moves On To The Opera Cup Finals

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1213924379031007232

Before Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Alexander Hammerstone clashed in a semi-final Opera Cup tilt, Smith cut a promo where he basically said he was going to make Hammerstone piss himself and tap out. Hammerstone didn’t submit to Smith but he did drop the fall.

Smith would have to deal with outside interference from the Dynasty’s Richard Holliday throughout the match but after making a familiar-looking comeback, Smith had things back in his control. The Dynasty attempted to double-team Smith but the Hart Foundation member ducked and Hammerstone hit his stablemate instead before being power-slammed by Smith and taking the loss. After the match, Smith attempted to shake Hammerstone’s hand but Holliday wouldn’t allow this to take place despite Hammerstone seeming willing.

With the win, Smith Jr. now awaits the winner of Timothy Thatcher vs Brian Pillman Jr. in next week’s semi-final match.

Kotto Brazil Picking A Fight With Brian Pillman Jr.?

Screenshot 2020 01 06 10.23.55

Brian Pillman Jr. was interviewed in the back regarding his semi-final Opera Cup match next week. During the interview, Pillman was interrupted by Kotta Brazil. The Injustice member informed Pillman that he was an alternate in the tournament and should perhaps watch his back.

Pillman didn’t seem too intimidated but are Brazil and Pillman on a course to a match between them?

Contra Unit Defeats Strong Hearts

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1213977227148320768

OWE’s Strong Hearts took on Simon Gotch, Josef Samael, and Jacob Fatu from Contra Unit this week. This match came about as a result of a backstage attack from Contra Unit to the OWE faction on a previous episode of Fusion.

The members of Strong Hearts were able to demonstrate their tag-team prowess during this match but in the end, nothing they could do was going to defeat Jacob Fatu. The MLW World Champion hit a moonsault on CIMA for the win as he continues to look unbeatable.

The Von Erichs To Take On 2 Of Tom Lawlor’s Top Students

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1213743195714142210

At the end of the show this week, Tom Lawlor cut a backstage promo on the Von Erichs. Lawlor challenged the Von Erichs to put their MLW World Tag Team titles on the line against two of his top students from “Team Filthy.” We should find out more about if Ross and Marshall will accept Lawlor’s challenge on future episodes of MLW Fusion.

MLW Fusion 1/4 Quick Results:

  1. Tom Lawlor defeated Rip Von Erich
  2. Opera Cup (semi-final)
Davey Boy Smith Jr. defeated Alexander Hammerstone
  3. Contra Unit defeated Strong Hearts

Brian Pillman Jr To Face Jacob Fatu For MLW World Title

The biggest match yet in the young career of Brian Pillman Jr. will take place in 8 days at MLW: Zero Hour in Dallas, Texas. MLW has just announced that Pillman will take on Jacob Fatu for the MLW World Championship at the event.

“Major League Wrestling today announced a World Heavyweight Title Fight: Jacob Fatu vs. Brian Pillman Jr. for MLW: Zero Hour at the NYTEX Sports Centre in the greater Dallas/Ft. Worth area on Saturday, January 11. The event will be a MLW FUSION TV taping for beIN SPORTS,” an MLW Press Release for the match reads.

Josef Samael from Fatu’s Contra Unit faction recently burned Teddy Hart with a fireball and sent Pillman’s Hart Foundation stablemate right out of the territory. Pillman will be looking for revenge in addition to the title.

MLW matchmakers stated that Pillman has earned the shot at the title due to his strong performance at the recent Opera Cup event.

5 Takeaways From MLW Fusion 12/28 Best of 2019

MLW Fusion from 12/28 on BeIN Sports presented a Best of 2019 show featuring some of the top matches and angles from the last year. The main event from MLW’s PPV debut this year, Jacob Fatu vs LA Park, was the featured match on the show.

Here are 5 takeaways from MLW Fusion 12/28:

Is Jacob Fatu An Unstoppable Champion?

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1211425412644929537

The featured match on this week’s episode of Fusion was the main event from the promotion’s PPV debut “Saturday Night SuperFight” on November 2nd in Chicago’s Cicero Stadium. LA Park earned a title shot by winning the 2019 Battle Riot match and presented an opportunity for Selina de la Renta to bring the MLW World Championship back into Promociones Dorado.

What Selina failed to fully appreciate, however, is how dominant a champion Jacob Fatu is. On Fusion this week, a recap video of the Contra Unit’s takeover of the promotion was shown before LA Park vs Jacob Fatu closed the show.

While Fatu’s unique ability was on full display during this match, it would take some outside help from Josef Samael for him to retain his title. In the end, it would be a fireball from Josef Samael and a missed spear that saw Selina driven through a table which would lead to the finish. Fatu finished his opponent off with a moonsault from the top.

With a new year on the horizon, one has to wonder who will be the next to challenge Jacob Fatu?

One of the top stories of the year in MLW was recapped on the show this week. Tom Lawlor turned on the Von Erichs during a world title match between Ross Von Erich and Jacob Fatu on Thanksgiving. Lawlor would later state he plans on reforming “Team Filthy” and is currently looking for new stablemates.

A recap of Ross Von Erich and Tom Lawlor brawling in the streets of New York was also shown on this week’s episode.

Davey Boy Smith Jr. Moves Closer To World Title Shot

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1211437744045510658

The opening match from Fusion’s “Best of 2019” show featured Davey Boy Smith Jr. submitting a game Timothy Thatcher. The commentary team peppered in mentions about how important this match was in the MLW rankings during the bout, possibly to communicate to the audience that Smith might not be far away from an MLW World Championship match. Will Smith find himself in the title picture as MLW moves into 2020?

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1211289321401147395

Smith picked up the submission victory on Thatcher with a crossface after power-bombing his way out of a triangle hold.

Jacob Fatu Signs Long-Term Deal with Major League Wrestling

On the heels of former MLW World Champion Tom Lawlor announcing he is leaving the promotion, MLW has signed current World Champion Jacob Fatu to a long-term deal.

The length of the contract is not known but it is said to commit Fatu to the promotion for the next few years.

“This is where I wanted to be all along. CONTRA in MLW: this is my home,” Fatu said in an MLW press release.

“Fatu has been a revelation in the sport with a breakout year and has shown all the attributes we look for in a champion,” stated MLW CEO and founder Court Bauer. “We are excited to know that Fatu is someone we can build around, and we look forward to seeing him fight under the MLW banner for years to come.”

Fatu headlined MLW’s debut on PPV earlier this month. He successfully defended his title against Battle Riot II winner LA Park on the show. His Contra Unit appears to now be moving into a rivalry with the Hart Foundation.

Episodes of MLW Fusion air Saturday nights on BeIN Sports and are then posted in their entirety to YouTube the following Monday.

Jacob Fatu vs Tom Lawlor Rematch Booked For Never Say Never

Jacob Fatu defeated Tom Lawlor to win the MLW World Championship on Saturday’s live episode of Fusion from Chicago. The promotion has recently announced that the former champion plans on cashing in his rematch clause for MLW’s Never Say Never event on July 25th.

Additonally, new MLW champion Jacob Fatu and his faction of Contra Unit have evidently disappeared.

“Meanwhile, Jacob Fatu and CONTRA Unit have reportedly gone abroad. Where are the self-described global dealers in violence? No one knows for sure but with CONTRA supposedly having shadowy connections to the darkest corners of the world, it is only a matter of time before the trio release a statement,” MLW’s press release for the match reads.

Jacob Fatu Captures MLW World Heavyweight Championship

Jacob Fatu is your new MLW World Heavyweight championship.

The Samoan Werewolf scored a decisive victory over “Filthy” Tom Lawlor in the main event of Saturday night’s MLW Kings of Colosseum event. The match lasted around 12 minutes and ended with Fatu connecting with a top rope moonsault.

Jacob Fatu has ushered in a new era for for the promotion. As announcer Rich Bocchini put it, Fatu and his group CONTRA Unit have effectively hijacked Major League Wrestling.

https://twitter.com/MLW/status/1147691588182843393

Fatu’s victory spells the end of Tom Lawlor’s 5-month reign. He captured the gold from Low Ki back in February at MLW SuperFight.

WWE Allegedly Interested In Signing Jacob Fatu

WWE officials are allegedly interested in signing another top independent talent—one who also happens to be a part of a wrestling dynasty.

Jacob Fatu is a member of the legendary Anoa’i Family, and is currently signed to Major League Wrestling (MLW).

It was reported by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE believe that Fatu is primed to become a major star. All Elite Wrestling are also reportedly aware and interested.

He is currently set to challenge MLW champion, Tom Lawlor, for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship on July 6th. Their match takes place at MLW’s King Of Colosseum show in Cicero, Illinois.

Samoan Heritage

Fatu was trained by his uncle, former WWE Superstar, Rikishi. He signed with MLW earlier this year, debuting for the promotion during their February 2019 event, SuperFight. He debuted alongside his frequent tag team partner, Josef Samael. Along with Simon Gotch, they would form the Contra Unit stable.

MLW also boasts other members of the Anoa’i Family including Samu and Lance Anoa’i.

Jacob Fatu comes from a long line of pro wrestling talent. His father is Sam Fatu. His uncle was WWE Superstar Umaga. Current WWE Superstars, Jimmy and Jey Uso, are his cousins, so there’s no doubting Jacob’s lineage or wrestling knowledge.
