Mick Foley Puts Over Dean Ambrose, JBL Blogs About His Next Mountain Climb

– WWE announcer JBL posted a Facebook.com on Monday night about his upcoming mountain climb of Mt. Aconcagua, also known as “Mount Death.” He wrote:

“Less than 7 weeks out from Mt Aconcagua-nicknamed “Mt Death” some estimates are as high as 60% success rate but seems like closer to 30% is more accurate. Numbers are all over the place as records are not kept that well and some are embellished for marketing.”

“This is the highest mountain outside of Asia, by far my toughest test. Since it is only 80 miles from the Pacific Ocean wind chills can be deadly. I might need a little luck, however, if weather is OK I believe I have a great chance of making it.”

– Mick Foley tweeted the following during Monday’s RAW about Dean Ambrose:

https://twitter.com/realmickfoley/status/273254679453003777

Earlier this year, Mick Foley and Dean Ambrose were feuding on social media, with Ambrose calling out Foley for “destroying a generation” of wrestlers by championing the hardcore style of chairs and barbed wire. Ambrose confronted Mick Foley at a hotel in Florida during WrestleMania 28 weekend and there was talk of Ambrose debuting on the main roster in a feud with Mick Foley, but they eventually called a truce and the angle was dropped.

JBL Blogs About Eddie Guerrero 7 Years After His Passing

WWE announcer JBL has posted a new blog on Facebook remembering his fallen friend Eddie Guerrero, who passed away 7 years ago today. JBL wrote:

“I’ve written a lot about Eddie Guerrero and I never get tired of talking about my friend, this is the 7th anniversary of his passing.

Eddie was a groomsman in my wedding and I did part of his eulogy at his funeral, we were good friends-I really miss Eddie and so wish he were still around. We had so much fun together, and he meant more to my success than anyone.

The JBL character wasn’t working and Eddie and Chavo Sr came up with the idea for the ‘heart attack’ of his mother on Mother’s Day in his hometown of El Paso. I literally had a police escort out of town for my own safety that night, talk about heat.

This angle with CM Punk and Heyman faking a heart attack last night, I loved it-this is something Eddie would have loved also. People get worked up, and it is their choice to be offended by whatever they choose. I thought it was awesome, I just wish JBL could have done it!

Eddie did as much for me personally as he did professionally, he was a truly amazing guy.

The story of Chavo and Eddie getting into a heated argument backstage over the mother angle when Chavo started ribbing Eddie that Mrs Guerrero should take the clothesline was hilarious-it’s just that no one saw it but me.

The match we had at Judgement Day set the attendance record at the Staples Center at the time, all off the heart attack angle. Again, if you are offended by the CM Punk story-it’s your choice, but I got a guy wishing I was dead and several profanity filled Tweets over it. Really? Over a TV show, some have zero class when they can be keyboard warriors anonymously.

Also, the filming of Jerry as he was receiving medical care got some really nasty comments. If that was an NFL game or any event that had a ton of cameras around, do you think that a guy who has been told to film everything who has a camera on his shoulder would not film it. I thought it was all done very well and was one of the best Raws I have seen in some time.

I thought the welcome back of Jerry was great, I love Jerry and he is one of the best of all time. A true Hall of Famer. We share a birthday though his year is many decades ahead of me.

Here’s highlights of the Judgement Day bloodbath, Eddie had to be taken to the hospital after this-I didn’t realize at the time how much blood he was losing. Seeing the tape I am shocked.

I miss Eddie, would be great to have him around now after all these years and laugh and talk.

JBL Tells A Backstage Story Of His First Push Being Killed By A Bad Referee Call

WWE announcer JBL has posted a new blog entry at Facebook.com with a backstage story from his first WWE Survivor Series back in 1996. JBL competed in a traditional team elimination match on the “Free For All” pre-show and was eliminated from the match earlier than he was supposed to be due to a botched call from referee Tim White.

JBL wrote on Tuesday:

“My first Survivor Series my team was to go over and it was to be my first big push. It was one of first times refs used ear pieces, or at least, different ear pieces. So, I do a ‘false finish’ and Tim White counts me out! I had kicked out on ‘2,’ but Tim was listening to someone in his ear and wasn’t paying attention. He looked up and said, ‘Oh my God, kid, I am so sorry,’ but then had to pantomine he was sending me out of ring.”

“I got to the back and was chewed out, I couldn’t stooge Tim so I just took it-later they realized Tim made a mistake and told me they were sorry. It was my pal Gerald Brisco that had chewed me out as he ran ‘Gorilla’ back then. My push was killed and pretty much so was ‘Justin Hawk Bradshaw,’ but that is a different story-which I’ll tell later. I thought about this today as I was reading some tweets from folks about Survivor Series.”

Here’s a video clip of the spot JBL is talking about. The botched call takes place around the 10:45 mark – and you can hear Vince McMahon and Jim Ross caught off guard by the early elimination of “Justin Hawk Bradshaw” –

JBL Blogs About Tonight’s Hell In A Cell Pay-Per-View

WWE announcer JBL has posted a blog update on Facebook.com hyping tonight’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. Here’s what JBL said about:

Tonight’s PPV From Atlanta: “Great cardio session this morning getting ready for PPV tonight in Atlanta. Hard to believe during the ‘Attitude Era’ that we would be here in Atlanta and WCW would be no more, especially the year they were beating us in ratings.

The Attitude Era: “Loved the ‘Attitude Era’ but also enjoying being back, I think the shift to a more PG product is good for business. Was easy in ‘Attitude Era’ to take shortcuts and now one has to think harder to get an edge and get ‘over’. I like the challenge, but I’m just an announcer-those that respond to the challenge will do very well.”

Ryback’s First PPV Main Event: “Huge challenge tonight for many, especially Ryback-I think he will do great, but you never know until it happens. A HUGE difference between wrestling top guys and closing a PPV. This is truly baptism by fire. My bet? I think Ryback does well, he’s out there with ‘the best in the world’ so expectations are very high. Sink or swim, lights are on bright.”

JBL Apologizes For Offending The Colon Family On RAW

JBL wrote the following on his Facebook page, apologizing to the Colon family for saying that Carlos Colon owes him (and several other people) money during his commentary on RAW:

“Wrestling has always had good guys and bad guys (heels), if there were no heels there would be no heroes.

I remember being in Austin, Texas and cutting a promo on how UT had lost to Oklahoma and mocking the Longhorns (which killed me as I am a lifelong UT fan). Or, being in Dallas with Tony Dorsett (one of my heroes, again a lifelong diehard Cowboy fan) being there and cutting a promo on the Cowboys about why they were losers. Both of those just killed me, but it’s a work-it’s what I do.

This past week I did 5 hours of TV for WWE, I am a heel announcer. I do my best to get over talent, story lines and hopefully entertain.

This past week I said many ‘heel’ things not intended to offend but rather to entertain.

I had said (working with two of best announcers in WWE history) that I was a ‘dollar working with two dimes’ (referring to JR and Cole).

I had said Brodus Clay was a cross between LaToya Jackson and Free Willy or a ‘Justin Timberlake trained sea monster’.

I said Mil Mascaras had a huge ego and glad his nephew ADR did not (when in reality ADR has a huge ego filled character on TV), it was a way to entertain-or at least try.

I went to Primo and Epico and made sure I had their title history as well as their father Carlo Colon’s, so I could try and help them in a very short match with Ryback.

I quoted their history, did my best to put them over and then made a comment with something to the effect of ‘Primo comes from a great heritage his father was a 24 time Puerto Rico champion’. I added, ‘he still owes me money… and many others’. I’m a heel.

However, apparently I have offended Mr Colon and/or the wrestling community/office in Puerto Rico. This was never intended, there was no malice. I was trying to entertain–and put his kids over by listing their histories.

So my apologies to Mr Colon, Primo and Epicco, and any of the other wrestling community in Puerto Rico that are now upset.”

I had assumed they would know that I was merely trying my best to do my job and no malice was intended-that is obviously not the case, please understand my only intention was to entertain.”

Ric Flair’s Status With WWE, Kelly Kelly’s New Look, Cole & JBL’s Announcing

– Former WWE diva Kelly Kelly is sporting a new hair style and posted a picture of it on Twitter [view here].

– The reported reason JBL did commentary with Josh Matthews on SmackDown this week is because Michael Cole is now the lead announcer for WWE Main Event on Wednesday nights. No word on whether JBL on SmackDown is a longterm thing.

– WWE Saturday Morning Slam has been doing a 0.7 rating each week among the show’s target audience, children 6-11 years old.

– WWE is holding off on signing Ric Flair to a contract until the ongoing lawsuit with TNA is settled. Flair is one of the main people named in the lawsuit with “WWE trying to steal TNA talent” using stolen information from former TNA/WWE employee Brian Wittenstein.

It’s believed that Flair would be back in WWE if it wasn’t for the lawsuit and will eventually be signed.

JBL Talks About His Experience At RAW, Punk-McMahon, Ryback & More

JBL has posted a message on Facebook talking about his experience calling this week’s RAW, Vince McMahon’s match with CM Punk, Ryback’s rise, his upcoming mountain climb and Jerry Lawler’s return to WWE next week in Memphis:

“Had a great time this week calling both Raw and Smackdown. I had always wanted to call matches with JR and was great to be able to do so, especially considering how good the show was Monday.

“I thought the McMahon vs CM Punk match was excellent, a perfect story of the old lion McMahon who always finds a way to win against the “Best in the World”.

“The run in by Ryback surprised me at the reaction he got, WWE has got a bonafide star in Ryback. The problem now comes in fulfilling the hype, a great job has been done with Ryback-and there will be some hiccups along the way, but he has gotten over in a huge way in a short amount of time.

“It goes to show that some have ‘it’ and some don’t. It’s still too early completely to tell, but I think Ryback does have ‘it’.

“Still don’t know what the future holds for me and WWE, I just know I am having a great time filling in for King while he recovers. Our youth program in Bermuda starts up this month for this season and I have a lot to do to get ready.

“Not to mention that I have ‘Mt Death’ waiting on me in January in South America and I have 13 weeks to train starting on Friday. This mountain is a lot harder than Kilimanjaro and going to have to put in a lot of time getting ready.”

So, don’t have an answer for all those who ask what my future is, I am having a ball being back. I make fun of Cole incessantly (which I really enjoy btw) but he is as prepared as anyone I have ever seen do a telecast. It’s really easy just being able to react knowing he is doing the brunt of the work.

Not sure what I am doing if anything next week, but would love to be around for Jerry Lawler’s return in Memphis if possible.”

JBL Talks About Mountain Climbing, Wrestling Again, WWE’s Hall Of Fame

Former WWE superstar JBL was recently interviewed by HollywoodLife.com and spoke about his Seven Summits Bermuda Challenge. Here are some highlights of what the self proclaimed Wrestling God said about:

Does The Danger Scare Him? “[No]. It might be stupidity or naïveté but I really don’t have a fear of dying on these mountains or even getting hurt. I am going with great guides who have done these mountains many times, a lot of people do get hurt and die on these mountains especially when you get to the harder mountains but it is not a false bravado, I just don’t really think, I just don’t think its going to happen! It obviously could, hopefully my wife would be upset, it would be a shame if she doesn’t [Laughter} but I am focused on climbing the mountain. Its like going into a wrestling match, are you really worried about getting hurt? Its not like the danger isn’t there, its all about doing what you can do, and that is where my focus is on.”

Wrestling One More Match: “I have zero and no desire for one more match. I mean you never say never, but I have no desire at all for one more match. WWE has never brought up one more match, so I don’t err see it happening. You never know, but I have no desire to have one! There certainly isn’t one in the cards, its something that I don’t care to do.”

Is He A Hall Of Fame Candidate? “I would be tremendously honored if the Hall of Fame knocked on my door, that would be the biggest career highlight a person could ever have to even have my name mentioned as a possibility is quite an honor considering the great superstars that are in there. That is a lifetime achievement that is phenomenal. That is completely out of my control, I hope someday somebody puts my name up and I hope I am not laughed out of the room. But I can’t control that, it would be a tremendous honor. Its not something I am expecting. There are plenty of great performers that should go ahead of me in the Hall as very well they should be.”

JBL Talks About Returning To RAW & Working With Michael Cole

Former WWE superstar JBL spoke with the Miami Herald this week. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

Working with Michael Cole on RAW: “I really enjoyed doing commentary and doing it with Michael Cole. I think he is one of the best play-by-play guys that I certainly have ever seen. I was tongue tied. I was rusty and made a ton of mistakes, but it was a lot of fun to be back. It was really enjoyable. I have always enjoyed the art of the heel commentator. It’s just a lot of fun to be out there.”

Filling in for Jerry Lawler: “To get the blessing from Jerry was great. I’m not there to take Jerry’s spot. I’m there to fill in for Jerry’s seat. I hadn’t talked to Jerry, so I was glad he was aware of that. Jerry and I share a birthday (Nov. 29), but not the same year. He was born in the 1800s sometime, like 1891 or something. He’s about 140 now I think. So we have this same birthday and have always had this unique bond. I was really sad to see what happened to him, but I’m glad he is doing so well. It was a nice gesture for him to reach out before the show and give his blessing. Though I understand why he had a heart attack now, working with Michael Cole. Anyone could have a heart attack working with Cole.”

His Plans After Climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro: “I haven’t had many plans beyond that. They called me asking if I could fill in for Jerry, and I was very happy to do that. My program starts up in Bermuda when I get back, which is working with some great young men deemed at risk by society. I have a pretty busy fall, so I have no idea. They are trying to figure out right now if Jerry is okay and what they are going to do. Booker [T.] has been moved to general manager of SmackDown. I have no idea. I’m not privy to their conversations. I don’t know any more of the future than I’m climbing a mountain with hopes that I live and can come back to work on the program with our kids in Bermuda.”

JBL Blogs About Returning to RAW & Preparing For His Mountain Climbs

John Bradshaw Layfield has posted a new blog entry Facebook talking about his return to RAW on Monday and his Seven Summits mountain climbing campaign. Here are some highlights of what JBL wrote:

“Getting ready to go to Africa to climb Kilimanjaro to raise money for the kids I work with every week in Bermuda. Had a blast at WWE, and very grateful for nice feedback. Don’t know the future-I was asked to fill in for King and my only hope is that he gets better.

“My only plans now are to go to Africa and climb to the top of Kilimanjaro, I leave Friday. When I return we will be starting up our program for this year in Bermuda-so have a very busy fall ahead of me.

“The dangerous mountain I have ahead of me is in January when I attempt to climb Aconcagua in South America (they call it ‘Mt Death’).

“I feel good about Kilimanjaro, unless I get altitude sickness or have an accident I should make it. I am in as good of shape as I can be, so I’m very excited to start climbing.

“Was great to be around WWE again. Felt like I had returned home-was really enjoyable. I also enjoyed the art of trying to put these guys over on commentary. I was a lot more rusty than what I thought but was fun being out there.”
