Brian Christopher Lawler Issues Statement On Father’s Condition Tuesday Night

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler continues to recover in a hospital in Montreal, Canada, after suffering a heart attack during Monday’s Raw broadcast.

Lawler’s family members are with him, including son and former WWE performer Brian Christopher Lawler, who released a statement Tuesday evening concerning his father’s condition. Though stable, the concern now is whether he suffered brain damage following the heart attack.

His message reads: “Ok, here’s the latest real update. Lauren and I are here at the hospital in Montreal. He does not look good at all. He is responsive to questions that he is asked which is very good. His sedation and breathing support are being lowered slowly right now. He was shocked a total of 7 times at the arena and underwent a balloon stint to open up a clogged artery when he arrived at hospital. Everyone out there needs to say a special prayer for his brain at this point, please. Tests on his brain will not be available until the morning. One of us two will keep all you guys informed as we know more.”

Stacy Carter, Lawler’s former wife, remains optimistic on “The King.” She tweeted late Tuesday night, “Gonna try to get some sleep. Been a long 24 plus hours. I just know there will be some good news about @jerrylawler ‘s condition tomorrow!!!”

Jerry Lawler Update: Responsive, But Fear Of Brain Damage

Former WWE Diva Stacy Carter (“The Kat” and “Miss Kitty”), the ex-wife of Jerry Lawler, says the King is being taken out of sedation and is now responsive after undergoing more heart procedures on Tuesday. There is now fear that Lawler might have suffered brain damage during RAW after suffering a heart attack, when his brain was deprived of oxygen for several minutes.

Carter’s full Facebook statement reads:

“I have an update on Jerry. The docs are removing his ventilation & taking him out of sedation. He is responsive, which is great!!! It took a while to revive him last night so there’s the concern of brain damage. He had some tests done which will show how much if any damage there is due to the lack of oxygen to his brain. Unfortunately, the results won’t be in until in the morning. I appreciate all the calls, texts, tweets, & Facebook messages of support & I know Jerry will too. Thanks everybody!!”

Backstage Notes From Raw Regarding Jerry Lawler’s Health Scare

– F4WOnline.com published a report clarifying rumors of WWE’s handling of Monday’s Raw show after broadcaster and wrestler Jerry Lawler suffered a heart attack while commentating.

According to a WWE employee backstage at the event, it was a very chaotic scene but he did not see any pray groups. Contrary to speculation, there was never any talk of halting the show.

WWE chief Vince McMahon was not at Lawler’s side during the entire ordeal, as reported. He briefly checked on the backstage commotion during a commercial break before resuming his producing duties at Gorilla Position. Rather, Paul “Triple H” Levesque directed orders backstage.

All of broadcaster Michael Cole’s on-air verbiage concerning Lawler was directed by McMahon word-for-word.

Major Update On Jerry Lawler’s Medical Emergency: No Warning Signs, Backstage Reaction & More

Jerry Lawler’s heart attack at Monday’s RAW got mainstream media coverage from CNN, the Associated Press, FOX, TMZ and many others.

As you can imagine, the mood backstage at RAW last night was very tense. When it became apparent that Lawler was suffering a medical emergency on the air, many people began praying and nobody was paying attention to the show.

Sources who were backstage at RAW are crediting the EMT’s for saving Lawler’s life. Had the heart attack taken place at an independent wrestling show where they don’t have EMT’s and a heart defibulator on hand, Lawler’s fate might have been different.

Lawler is currently in stable condition at the cardiac ICU of a Montreal hospital and is scheduled to undergo heart surgery today.

F4wonline.com is reporting the following details on Jerry Lawler’s condition:

– Lawler wrestled both Friday and Saturday nights in Aruba before heading back to the States and flying to Montreal for RAW on Monday.

– Lawler showed no signs of health problems over the weekend.

– There was some concern at RAW about blood being cut off to Lawler’s brain and potential brain damage. Several fans who were ringside noted that Lawler’s skin appeared blue, a result of oxygen deprivation.

Hart Family Member Says Jerry Lawler Was “Clinically Dead” For Twenty Minutes

Smith Hart, brother of WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart, says he was told by a friend backstage at Monday’s Raw at Centre Bell in Montreal, Quebec, Canada that Jerry Lawler was “clinically dead” for twenty minutes before being revived by a defibrillator.

He wrote on Twitter, “According to my friend Jeremy Prophet who was backstage at RAW, Jerry was clinically dead for 20 min before being brought back by defibrilat.”

According to the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Foundation, clinical death is the medical term for cessation of blood circulation and breathing, which are two necessary criteria to sustain life. This occurs when the heart stops beating in a regular rhythm and is also known as cardiac arrest.

Hart noted that “it has been confirmed that Jerry did suffer a heart attack.” Since medical personnel were at ringside, Lawler was able to receive immediate treatment.

According to Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer, Lawler remains in stable condition. He is breathing on his own and his heart is beating on its own, but is considered not out of danger.

WWE broadcaster and wrestler Jerry “The King” Lawler is believed to have suffered a heart attack or stroke when he collapsed ringside during Monday night’s live episode of Raw.

Alex Marvez reported Monday night on FoxSports.com following the show: “A source told FoxSports.com that it’s believed Lawler suffered a stroke or heart attack, with the former being the most likely. The fact medical personnel were at ringside allowed Lawler to receive immediate treatment, the source said.”

According to Bryan Alvarez of Figure Four Weekly and Wrestling Observer, talent were told by WWE officials that Lawler likely suffered a heart attack.

Lawler, who had participated in a tag team match alongside Randy Orton earlier in the show, collapsed at the announcer’s table while commentating the tag team match featuring Daniel Bryan and Kane vs. Darren Young and Titus O’Neil and was taken away on a stretcher. He received CPR backstage at Centre Bell in Montreal, Quebec, Canada and was then admitted to an area hospital. Cole stated at 10:55 p.m. EST that Lawler appeared more responsive and was reacting to the lights in his eyes.

Lawler’s longtime broadcast partner Jim Ross subsequently tweeted at 11:58 p.m., “No updates on the King. Hospitalized in Montreal. Tests being done. Going to be a long night here in Okla. Wish I was in Montreal. Pray.”

Arda Ocal of The Score, who attended Raw in person, detailed on Twitter. “Something is going on with Jerry Lawler right now at the commentary table. It looks like he collapsed. Not part of show…

“He is being carried away by personnel to the backstage area. He appeared unconscious as he was being carried… When I looked over he was hunched over convulsing in his seat and collapsed, then multiple people carried him out.”

Jerry Lawler Recalls Infamous Andy Kaufman Storyline

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler recently spoke to WWE.com about his legendary feud with the late comedian Andy Kaufman:

Why The Incident Is Still Talked About 30 Year Later:

“It was the first time something like that had happened. I don’t know if I should tell this or not, but one night I was flying back on the plane with Vince McMahon. And he said, “You know, King, I’ve never told you this before, but I was so jealous when you got Andy Kaufman and did all that stuff with him down there in Memphis. Because he was from New York, and I thought we could have done all that stuff up here.” But he also said, “But I’ll be honest with you. There’s no way on Earth we could have done it as well as you guys did it.”

How The Angle Would Have Been Different In The WWE:

“It would have been a first. Vince loves firsts. To this day, you hear on Monday Night Raw that you’re going to see something for the first time ever. That’s big. And this was the first time any big deal Hollywood star was involved to that extent in wrestling. Vince realized, everybody realized, because it got so much national exposure. Everything back then was still regionalized. Cable TV hadn’t hit yet. The country was divided up into wrestling territories because of TV coverage. Once Vince saw you could use a Hollywood star to get that nationwide exposure, here comes Cyndi Lauper with Captain Lou and Wendi Richter, and then Mr. T gets brought in. The ball got rolling, and it hasn’t stopped to this day. Just in the past year, Hugh Jackman was in there punching Dolph Ziggler.”

Andy Kaufman Paving The Way For Celebrities In Wrestling:

“I really feel, in my heart of hearts, that he was responsible for that. I certainly believe that Andy Kaufman deserves a spot in the celebrity wing of the WWE Hall of Fame. Without a doubt, we would not be where we are today without his involvement. I really feel that way. Even at Raw 1,000, we had Charlie Sheen challenging Daniel Bryan to a match. It’s Andy Kaufman revisited as recently as last night.”

Vince McMahon Trying To Get Vickie To Forfeit Their Lifetime Deal?

For reasons publicly unclear, Vickie Guerrero has been subject to numerous verbal taunts concerning her weight throughout her tenure with WWE. Despite the placement of an anti-bullying policy and Guerrero herself losing over fifty pounds, the insults about her appearance continue to linger on WWE television shows. Last month at Over the Limit, commentator Jerry Lawler spent much of the WWE Tag Team Championship Match hurling weight-related barbs at Guerrero, who was wearing a dress with holes cut out.

When Vickie’s husband Eddie Guerrero died of heart failure in November 2005, Vince McMahon stated at a press conference that he promised to financially take care of her family for the rest of their lives. However, rather than dispense money to Guerrero for free, she was summoned to work for the organization as a television character despite having minimal training and experience. Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer was asked by a reader this weekend whether McMahon’s constant degradation of Guerrero is being done to get her to quit WWE, thereby forfeiting their lifetime deal.

“I don’t think they’ve ever tried to run her off. They just had an idea for her character.” Meltzer states. “The worst stuff was when she had already given notice a few years back, as opposed to them trying to get her to leave.”

In May 2009, Guerrero requested to be released from her contract with WWE. As a single parent, she felt it was important to spend more time with her fatherless teenage daughters during their crucial adolescent years. McMahon, however, was livid over Guerrero’s decision.

Matthew Randazzo V writes of the WWE CEO’s reaction in the July 2009 issue of Power Slam: “He takes grievous offence and begins to rant and rave that Guerrero has betrayed WWE. Yes, Vince believes that the widow of Eddie Guerrero is ungrateful to the professional wrestling industry because she is putting her family first. From this point on, Vince’s shameless lackeys curry his favour by pitching gratuitous pig and fatso jokes at creative meetings—which earn booming guffaws from Vince.”

McMahon’s ire shifts on-screen, with Santino Marella and his fictitious twin sister “Santina” insulting Guerrero for weeks, calling her a pig and making oinking noises. The storyline climaxes with Guerrero being placed in a Hog Pen Match at the June 2009 Extreme Rules pay-per-view—Vickie and Santina brawl in a pen full of mud. With the Guerrero character refusing to be humiliated anymore, she quits her job as General Manager of Raw the following evening. After her announcement, she was joined in the ring by her estranged storyline husband, Edge. Requesting a divorce, the Rated-R Superstar viciously blasts Guerrero, calling her a “she-beast” among other insults.

Guerrero was asked last year during an interview with The Baltimore Sun whether WWE’s negative remarks toward her weight affect her.

“They really don’t bother me. Well, I guess they did to an extent, but not to where I was feeling bad about myself. It was who I was,” she said. “We have beautiful women that work with us, and when I was in the locker room with them and we’re dressing and stuff, I would look at them and be like, ‘Oh, this is ridiculous. I’m going to change.’ I wanted to feel good being a part of their group and to live a lifestyle that was going to be promoted with the WWE. Now when they say the jokes, it’s like, ‘Whatever.’ [laughs] The jokes have helped grow my character to what it is. I just kind of roll with it and leave it behind me when I leave the arena. Again, there’s the character and then there’s the real person. You can’t take what’s going on at work personally.”

The Bellas Appear At First Independent Show, New Eve Photos

– Nicole and Brianna, formerly known as The Bella Twins, appeared at their first independent wrestling show on Friday in Newburgh, New York for Northeast Wrestling. Appearing as special guests, Nicole and Brianna argued over who was the better man, Luke Robinson or Jerry “The King” Lawler. Robinson appeared and said Nicole had brains and better genetics, which led Lawler to come out and stick up for Brianna. “The King” then suggests that in their main event match, they each have a Bella in their corner.

As the match concluded, Brianna hopped on the ring apron to complain about Robinson’s cheating. Robinson then tongue kissed Brianna, resulting in a slap across the face. Nicole then got angry and slapped Robinson, leading to Lawler rolling him up for the pinfall victory. “The King” then received a kiss from Nicole and Brianna as the crowd chanted “Uncle Jerry.” He left the ringside area with both Bellas.
