Count WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler among the people who was not thrilled with the House of Horrors match that took place at Sunday’s WWE Payback pay-per-view.

On the latest episode of his Dinner With The King podcast, Lawler answered a listener question about the House of Horros match and said he was disappointed and didn’t find the segment scary.

“I was so looking forward to the House of Horrors match because I’m such a big horror movie fan,” Lawler said. “I’m such a fan of these kind of things.  I was really, really excited about this.

The WWE, they have the opportunity and they have the people to put together some really great special effects. I guess my problem was I got my expectations up too high. I guess I expected more scary stuff. I’m not scared of baby dolls.”

Also on the episode, Lawler spoke about doing commentary during the Attitude Era, noting that Goldust and Bret Hart never had a problem with him insulting them and their families. He added that one Superstar who might have taken offense to his commentary was Taz and hinted some of that heat lingers to this day.

Jerry Lawler Defends JBL, Paige Gets Flack For Donald Trump Calendar

On the latest episode of his Dinner With The King podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler commented on the controversy surrounding JBL and the allegations that he’s a bully behind the scenes.

Lawler came to JBL’s defense, saying,  “I’m a JBL fan. Here’s the thing about JBL; you have to know the guy. And if you don’t get an opportunity to really know JBL, you can be offended. JBL is a funny guy. He’s a big guy. He’s boisterous. He comes across as, sometimes, crude and loud. But you gotta know him. That’s just JBL. He’s the same guy on commentary as he is in catering.”

He added that he doesn’t think JBL will get fired over the bullying issue. “I don’t think he will, not over something like this.”

– Paige posted a photo with Alberto El Patron on Twitter to showing off the book AJ Lee sent to her. Several fans noticed a Donald Trump poster in the background and gave her crap for supporting the controversial President of the United States.

When asked about the WWE Network, Lawler says he “absolutely, without a doubt” expects to see the Memphis footage added to the streaming service.

– WWE 2K17 is now available on PC.

– Bryan Saxton recently interviewed NXT announcer Percy Watson for the WWE website at this link. Watson talked about how he received a phone call “out of the blue” to return to the company. He was released from the WWE a few years earlier and had returned to commodities trading.

“Well, this whole experience has been completely surreal to me. But now that I’ve got a second chance, my goal is to learn as much as possible,” Watson said. “I realize that it’ll take some time, but I have no problem with that. I want to bring as much energy and ‘Showtime’ to the announce team as I can.”

– Jerry “The King” Lawler’s new Memphis-based BBQ restaurant was profiled last week by @MemphisNews:

Jerry Lawler Calling The WWE Royal Rumble Main Event

It was announced on tonight’s WWE Talking Smack episode that Jerry Lawler will be calling the Royal Rumble 30 man main event with Michael Cole and Corey Graves later this month in San Antonio at The Alamodome.

Lawler returned to SmackDown last night and hosted a special King’s Court segment with Dolph Ziggler. As seen below, it didn’t go too well for the King.

“King’s Court” Announced For This Week’s SmackDown

Jerry Lawler will return to WWE TV on Tuesday’s SmackDown from Memphis as he will be hosting his “King’s Court” segment. Lawler hosted “King’s Court” several years ago in the early days of RAW, seen in the clips above.

SmackDown will also feature Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss in a cage match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship.

Lawler commented on bringing back the segment for SmackDown:

Jerry Lawler Speaks On Why He Was Really Pulled From The RAW Pre-Show Panel

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xgYCVvNz9w

Jerry “The King” Lawler was recently removed from WWE’s RAW pre-show panel, along with Lita. Lawler called in to Memphis radio show Cerrito Live over the weekend to address his departure from the WWE Network-exclusive shows, citing budget cuts as the reason for the change. Lawler said while age was a factor in being replaced by Corey Graves on the USA Network, that wasn’t the case in this change.

Lawler says he was paid the same amount when he switched from SmackDown to the WWE Network pre-shows, and his salary made the pre-shows too expensive to produce. The King noted that his contract is still good until mid-January, and that he expects his next WWE contract to be worth less due to his decreased work schedule.

He told listeners of Cerrito Live that he received a call from WWE Chairman Vince McMahon right after the decision was made to pull him from the pre-show panel. McMahon reportedly told Lawler that he will always have a job in WWE, including hosting duties for the Hall of Fame ceremonies.

Lawler noted that he expects to pick up more WWE Network duties and work on more projects about the history of Memphis wrestling.

Jerry Lawler & Lita Pulled From WWE Panels, Lita Gone From WWE?

WWE officials have confirmed that Jerry Lawler and Lita have been removed their regular WWE programming duties. They will no longer be part of the RAW, SmackDown and PPV WWE Network panels.

Update: According to WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross, Lita is no longer affiliated with WWE:

Booker T and Charly Caruso took over the hosting duties for the new RAW pre-show on Monday night. Booker T and Renee Young hosted the SmackDown pre-show, but it’s worth noting that the Youtube video description for the SmackDown pre-show lists Booker T and Charly Caruso as the hosts. The RAW and SmackDown pre-shows were both cut back from 30 minutes to 10.

F4Wonline.com adds that Lawler is “loosely affiliated” with WWE and may be brought back to the WWE Network for special events like WrestleMania weekend, etc.

Update On Jerry Lawler’s Status After Being Removed From SmackDown’s Announce Team

As noted earlier, WWE revealed entirely new announce teams for RAW and SmackDown. With Corey Graves, Byron Saxton and Michael Cole calling RAW and Mauro Ranallo, JBL and David Otunga calling SmackDown, many have been wondering where that leaves WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler.

WWE.com has posted an update regarding The King’s status, revealing that he and Booker T will “bring their decades of experience in sports-entertainment to recurring Pre-Shows and Kickoffs as key analysts.”

They noted that other names will be joining those panels, so it sounds like WWE is not done shaking up their broadcast teams for this latest New Era.

New Commentary Teams For RAW & SmackDown, Jerry Lawler Out

Coming out of the WWE Draft, the new WWE announce teams look like this:

RAW: Corey Graves, Byron Saxton, Michael Cole

SmackDown: Mauro Ranallo, JBL, David Otunga

Main Event: Otunga, Tom Phillips

Superstars: Graves, Phillips

No word if Corey Graves and Tom Phillips will continue to call the action for NXT, but one WWE announcer conspicuously absent from these new lineups is Jerry Lawler.

Domestic Assault Charges Against Jerry Lawler Dropped

Domestic assault charges against Jerry “The King” Lawler and his fiancee, Lauryn McBride, were dropped Friday, reports The Commercial Appeal in Memphis.

Lawler’s attorney Ted Hansom said it was “a big misunderstanding and won’t happen again. We are happy with the outcome.”

Lawler, 66, and McBride, 27, were arrested in Memphis on June 17 after they both accused each other of domestic violence.

In the incident at Lawler’s home, McBride claimed Lawler held her against a kitchen counter during a argument. She said he hit her in the front left side of her head and pushed her against a stove. Then he retrieved an unloaded pistol, placed it on the counter and said, “Go ahead and kill yourself.”

According to the affidavit, Lawler said they argued over McBride lying about where she had been. He said she was intoxicated and tried to prevent her from leaving in her car. She then scratched the right side of his face, threw a candle at him and kicked him the groin. Lawler alleged that she got the gun from the garage and threatened to kill herself.

Both were arrested when officers could not determine who was the primary aggressor. Lawler was suspended indefinitely by WWE following the arrest.

Update On Jerry Lawler’s Court Appearance From This Morning

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler and his fiancée Lauryn McBride were in court this morning facing arraignment stemming from their domestic assault arrests from last week.

ComercialAppeal.com reports that Judge William Turner ordered them to stay away from each other while the case is ongoing.

McBride’s attorney Mark Mesler said, “Those are standard bail conditions in a domestic violence case. No contact, no communicating, no texts, no phone calls.”
Lawler declined to comment on the case. Their next court date is July 1st.

Lawler is serving an indefinite suspension from WWE as a result of the company’s zero tolerance policy as it pertains to domestic violence.

Jerry Lawler Released From Jail, Jim Ross Comments On Lawler’s Arrest

Both Jerry Lawler and his fiancée, Lauryn McBride posted bail and have been released from jail. They are each scheduled for court on Monday morning for arraignment.

In his latest blog over at JRsBarBQ.com, WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross said that he was “shocked” to hear of Lawler’s arrest:

“Allegedly alcohol was a contributing factor in this matter that resulted in Jerry being suspended indefinitely from WWE  as WWE has a zero tolerance policy as it relates to domestic violence issues.

For the record, Jerry doesn’t drink whatsoever nor have I ever seen him act aggressively toward any female or anyone else for that matter. I have not spoken to Jerry recently and hope that this unfortunate matter can be resolved quickly and efficiently.”

Jerry Lawler Comments On His Arrest & WWE Suspension

Jerry Lawler spoke with WMCActionNews5 from jail earlier today about his early morning domestic violence arrest and subsequent indefinite suspension from WWE.

Lawler said that he wrestled in Memphis last night at an event ironically named, “A Night in the Slammer.” When he got home, his fiancée drunk and they started fighting.

“When she drinks we get into a little bit of a shouting match and then she wants to leave,” Lawler said over the phone from jail. “I was not going to let her leave in the car, because she was not in any condition to drive. She got more and more upset.”

He and his fiancée told police very different versions of what happened, which is what led to both of them being arrested. When asked if he had a message to his fans about the arrest, Lawler said,

“It’s an unfortunate situation as a result of someone drinking too much. I’m saddened by it and hope we can get past this.”

Jerry Lawler Suspended Indefinitely By WWE

Here’s the full statement from WWE.com:

According to a police report, Lawler and his girlfriend, Lauryn McBride, were taken into custody and booked on alleged charges of domestic assault—bodily harm, a misdemeanor.

Jerry Lawler Arrested For Domestic Violence (Mugshot)

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler behind bars this morning after being arrested for domestic violence, according to WFSB.com.

Lawler, 66, and his fiancée Lauryn McGride, 27, allegedly got into an argument that turned violent and involved a gun. McBride tells Memphis police that Lawler held her against the kitchen counter, hit her in the head, pushed her against the stove, put a gun on the kitchen counter, and told her to “go ahead and kill yourself.”

Lawler told police the argument started when McBride lied about where she’d been. He claims McBride scratched him in the face, threw a candle at him, and kicked him in the groin. Lawler claims she was drunk and was threatening to kill herself.

Jerry Lawler Talks Co-Signing For Hulk Hogan’s First Car, The Rock’s Early Days

Jerry “The King” Lawler recently joined Chris Jericho’s Talk In Jericho podcast to discuss his lengthy career. Lawler says he recognized that The Rock would be a star right away, but didn’t have such high expectations for Hulk Hogan. He shared a story about Hulk breaking into the wrestling business, revealing that even back then Hogan would try to get jobs for his friends. Lawler also touched base on something that came up in Hogan’s trial: A car that Jerry Jarrett had supposedly bought him.

“Hulk Hogan, he came right there and started with us. He had been playing bass guitar in a band down in Florida. Jerry Jarrett and I co-signed for his first car that he ever had when he was right there,” Lawler recalled. “He was nowhere near a polished worker yet and the thing that really held him back, I think the reason we kind of had to let him go, was because he was bound and determined for us to use this kid that he brought with him. He called him Dizzy Hogan, which I think may have turned out to be, I don’t know if it was Brutus Beefcake. And he was horrible! But that was the deal. If we used Hulk, we had to use this other kid, his best friend.”

Lawler was also there to see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson break into the business. He said they could see his star potential right off the bat.

“The Rock, Flex Kavana, yeah, that was his name. He had a haircut [and] it looked like a pineapple. It was crazy. But, yeah, we knew that he had tremendous potential, simply because he was the son of Rocky Johnson and we had Rocky here. Rocky was a huge star in our territory down here in Memphis. But the funny thing was we didn’t play on that. We didn’t play that up. He was Flex Kavana. We didn’t even mention that he was Rocky Johnson’s son at that time. They didn’t do that until he got into WWE.”

Jerry Lawler Says WrestleMania 32 Could Feature Two Announce Teams

WWE Hall Off Famer Jerry Lawler appeared on Cerrito Live this past weekend and revealed that WrestleMania 32 might feature two separate [English] announce teams.

According to Lawler, there has been a strong push to have Mauro Ranallo featured on the show. While it’s not yet a done deal, he has heard “scuttlebutt” behind the scenes of it happening. He noted that fans have been requesting that he and Ranallo get a chance to call a few matches at WWE’s biggest show of the year.

The King also spoke about his heel turn on commentary, noting that it was actually his idea. Lawler knew Ranallo wouldn’t want to say anything bad about anyone since he’s the new guy, and that Byron Saxton was too nice of a guy, so he suggested to Vince McMahon that he return to his old heel announcer character.

He pointed out that he has only scratched the surface of his heel turn thus far, as he is still “easing into it.” He mentioned that McMahon loved the idea of him turning heel and even told him that he misses the days of “The King” playing the heel on commentary.

On if WWE acknowledges the negative feedback they get from former WWE Superstars such as Bret Hart, Mick Foley and Vince Russo:

“Would it bother you if you were in their shoes and actually read the endless stream of negativity directed their way? I don’t have any idea if they actually immerse themselves in this info.”

On whether or not Goldust should get a run as WWE Champion before he retires:

“I’m a Goldust fan and respect him and his work greatly but I’d not have any desire for him to be WWE Champion at this stage of his game.”

On whether or not people in WWE read his website and if he’d be willing to do a WWE Network “Table For 3” episode with Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler:

“Whether someone in WWE reads my work or listens to my podcasts isn’t a concern to me. However, I’d be happy to work on any WWE projects if they fit my schedule and I thought that I’d enjoy doing them. Me working on projects in WWE isn’t an issue with me but is strictly a WWE decision.”

On not being a fan of scripted promos in WWE:
