Former WWE on screen personality and NWA commentator Jim Cornette recently commented on Gerald Brisco being fired from WWE.
Brisco recently took to Twitter and announced that he was informed of the departure by Vince McMahon himself. Gerald Brisco, who has worked as a talent scout in recent years; said he will still be ‘around’ to work with talent if they need help.
Jim Cornette would mention the release on the Jim Cornette Experience podcast, and he was not happy with how WWE have dealt with the situation.
Jim Cornette on Gerald Brisco
“They have released Gerald Brisco, what the f*ck seriously?” Jim Cornette began on the show. “Gerald Brisco is in his 70s at this point. He has worked for that company for almost 40 years. If it wasn’t for Gerald Brisco and his brother Jack selling the stock in Georgia Championship Wrestling? Vince McMahon wouldn’t have got the Georgia TV.”
Cornette would elaborate on this point further, saying “he [McMahon] wouldn’t have got the million dollars from Jim Crockett for the Georgia TV. Which means he wouldn’t have been able to finance the first WrestleMania, etc etc.”
Jim Cornette would then list some of Brisco’s impressive accomplishments with WWE. “Gerald was one of the Stooges, they’ve made fun of him. He’s been a scout and he signed a bunch of talent. He was the one that was chasing Brock Lesnar and Shelton Benjamin. He’s scouted all the amateur wrestling meets and he’s tracked down talent. His record as an employee? It has been pretty much impeccable.”
“On Retainer”
Cornette would finish by saying that WWE should’ve ‘retired’ Brisco and kept him on a retainer, just in case he was needed. With the company recently posting their highest quarter on record? It’s not been a good look for WWE with so many talent, backstage crew and agents/producers being let go.
“They couldn’t just say ‘okay Gerald, here’s a flat amount you’re on retainer. You’re retired now. Except when we need you to travel somewhere and scout out a piece of talent. Have a wonderful retirement. No they f*cking release him and publicise it. Would it have hurt the WWE bottom line to send Gerald Brisco $1,000 a week in his retirement as a retainer to keep his services?”

Former WWE on screen personality and NWA commentator Jim Cornette recently commented on Mauro Ranallo leaving WWE and NXT.
Mauro Ranallo recently parted ways with the company reportedly to focus on his mental health work and other projects. During the Jim Cornette Experience, the outspoken Cornette would comment on Ranallo leaving the NXT commentary booth.
Jim Cornette on Mauro Ranallo
Initially, Jim Cornette would question why Mauro would leave the company during the pandemic era. “Believe me, anybody wants to quit the WWE? If you’re f*cking on the road every week and doing TV in that environment? I can understand that fully. But why pick now where you’re doing a TV show once a week from your house?”
“Mauro Ranallo was perfect for NXT” Jim Cornette continued. “He did get amped up every once in a while a little too far over the sh*t that obviously he didn’t need to be amped up for. But still he was just, I don’t know how they’re gonna replace him?”
Cornette would then discuss the man who seemingly will be replacing Ranallo on the show. Wade Barrett recently appeared on NXT as a ‘one-off’ but he is reportedly negotiating a longer term deal with WWE.
It’s an interesting piece of news for Cornette to comment on, as he himself was replaced by Wade Barrett/Stu Bennett in NWA. “Wade Barrett, a nice enough straight man there, you know color guy whatever but Mauro had the energy. Beth is the female voice, she’s doing a good job. But Mauro put a lot of energy into that programme sometimes when there wasn’t a lot.”

Former WWE personality and booker Jim Cornette recently commented on the Dexter Lumis injury from a recent episode of NXT. In a triple threat match with Finn Balor and Timothy Thatcher, Lumis would suffer from a ‘Osteochondral Lesion of the Talus.’ Or in layman’s terms, an ankle injury.
The injury occurred during the spot where Lumis flipped out of the ring between his opponents for a stare-down. The spot had to be filmed twice and the edit does not actually show Lumis landing from the flip itself.
Jim Cornette would be critical of the ‘stunt,’ mainly because he felt that the “risk-reward ratio” didn’t warrant such a throwaway spot during a televised match. With the injury, Lumis has now been pulled from the NXT Takeover XXX North American Championship ladder match.
Jim Cornette on Dexter Lumis
“It’s not just me saying ‘f*ck all the new guys and this is stupid'” Cornette began on his Experience podcast. “This is business and this is common sense.”
“I understand guys wanting to do different things to get over. Everybody wants to get over, to get over on TV, get over with the office. Get over with the booker or get over with the writers/creative team and get over with the fans” Jim Cornette continued. “Everybody wants to get over, and to get over you have to do different things and things that other people don’t do. You have to look impressive and make an impression.”
Cornette would then discuss how performers now need to work ‘smarter, not harder.’ “Get over smarter, not harder. The risk reward ratio of something like that for that spot in an empty arena television match? If he had nailed it and the camera had not cut through the whole thing and you saw he obviously did it? You would have said ‘wow, holy sh*t that was a heck of a flip.'”
“But the whole idea was not for him to wipe out his opponents” Cornette would continue. “Just a flip and stand in the middle of them to freak them out. And for that? He [Lumis] dove headfirst toward a concrete floor, padded, but he risked blowing out his knees, his ankles, his f*cking crotch whatever you could blow out. Pick your spots!”

Former WWE backstage employee Jim Cornette recently weighed in on the RAW Underground segment that took place this past Monday night. The former booker of Smokey Mountain Wrestling talked about the new concept on this week’s Jim Cornette Experience podcast.
Jim Cornette on RAW Underground
“The WWE as a company, why do they go out of their way to tell us it’s all fake and it’s all entertainment?” Jim Cornette began on the show. “It’s all scripted and they’re playing characters and all the other things they say. AND THEN every time they try to juice things up? Or get interest or sell tickets? Or plug a big pay per view, back in the day? Now it’s just get the ratings up for the rights fees or whatever, they try to do something that’s purportedly ‘real’? Because everybody knows that’ll sell more tickets.”
Cornette would then lay into WWE’s presentation of ‘real’ fighting, saying “and then they don’t know how to make it look real! When there ARE ways that you can make this shit look real.”
“So this logic…not only the whole industry now, but the WWE in specific? It drives me completely batsh*t bonkers out of my f*cking mind” Cornette continued. “They go out of their way to tell us it’s fake, except when they need to draw money!? And then they, along with everybody else, acknowledge and recognise that the things that draw money are the things that people believe are real. So they try to do worked real sh*t, and don’t make it look real!”

Pro wrestling personality and former TNA backstage employee Jim Cornette recently discussed Dixie Carter and her influence on the TNA product. Cornette was responding to recent comments from WWE Superstar AJ Styles on his Drive Thru podcast.
AJ Styles stated “Do I believe Dixie ruined IMPACT? Well, it was TNA back then, and 100%. IMPACT, there was a time when it was really gaining ground. The problem was, Dixie wanted to be WWE-lite and that’s not what people wanted. They wanted to see something else. All she had to do was let us do what we do, it was really that simple. Had she left it to the writers, I think TNA would still be around and be bigger than what they are, but not knowing what’s best for business? She hurt TNA”
Jim Cornette on Dixie Carter
“Dixie had talent she liked” Jim Cornette began on the Drive Thru. “And I’m not saying that in an inappropriate way. She thought that Hernandez, and she was correct in this, should be a Latino Mexican superstar at one point. I fully agreed with that.”
Cornette would then elaborate further on this, blaming Vince Russo for ‘destroying’ the potential they had with LAX member Hernandez. “Unfortunately for Hernandez? She’d [Dixie] picked an idiot to write her show [Vince Russo] who didn’t know how to get that guy over. And when I left? That was the end of that [Hernandez’s run], because he [Russo] didn’t understand it.”
Jim Cornette would then blame Dixie Carter for bringing in Vince Russo to oversee the writing of the product, thus somewhat agreeing with AJ Styles. “Dixie was responsible for creative in terms of who she hired to be in charge of it. And Jeff Jarrett to his credit, while he was there was able to balance most of the bullsh*t out with actual sh*t that made sense. OR, wouldn’t harm talent when you presented him with a better way to do it.”
“Dixie may have sat in on a few production meetings, not that many” Jim Cornette would continue. “Sometimes she wasn’t there at television and other times she would get there right before taping started. She’d be flying in from somewhere, she’d get there just in time to get her makeup done to go out in front of the fans and take post pictures holding the TNA title belt. But if you had a creative question, or if I did? I went to Jeff Jarrett.”

Former WWE writer and wrestling personality Jim Cornette had some choice words for the recent WWE Extreme Rules PPV. The event was billed as ‘The Horror Show at Extreme Rules,’ and Cornette seemed to agree with the ‘Horror’ aspect in more ways than one.
“It’s been so fucking stupid from the time that they announced this “Jim Cornette began on this week’s Drive Thru podcast, talking about the Eye for An Eye match between Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio. “Everybody laughed at it and nobody believed it.”
Jim Cornette Talks Eye for an Eye
“There was some element of discussion and or wonderment and bewilderment” Cornette would continue. “How they gonna do this, right? It’s like two dogs f*cking.”
Jim Cornette would then allude to WWE ‘copying’ the booking style of Vince Russo. Whilst Cornette didn’t strictly say the former WCW, TNA and WWF writer’s name? It was quite clear who he was referring to. “They have taken what I described about sh*t stains booking from years ago and just now applied to everything. We don’t give a f*ck what happens, we just want to see how they’re going to do it.”
Cornette elaborated on this further, saying “we don’t care about any of these people and we certainly don’t believe that any of this is in any way legitimate. OR EVEN that there could be some ill will between these guys, like a Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels; that would lead somebody to go into business for themselves. It’s just a bunch of bullsh*t to laugh at, so how are they going to do this?”
The former Midnight Express manager would then admit that he himself was intrigued at one point. “I was even interested, what are they going to do? Is this one guy gonna walk around with no eyeball for the rest of his life!?”

“And that’s when I said I’m done” Jim Cornette began on this week’s Drive Thru podcast, talking about the Wyatt Swamp Fight match. Cornette was discussing the point where Braun Strowman was knocked out (by himself) and woke to be chained against a chair.
Jim Cornette on Wyatt Swamp Fight
“F*ck these guys, f*ck these alleged writers [and] f*ck this company” Cornette continued. “This would have made me ashamed to ever be a part of wrestling, but this isn’t wrestling. So I’m not ashamed to have ever been a part of wrestling. I would have been ashamed to ever be a part of whatever the f*ck these people just did.”
Cornette would elaborate further, saying “they should be ashamed to call themselves wrestlers; but it didn’t make me ashamed of wrestling, because there was no aspect of wrestling involved in this.”
The former manager of the Midnight Express tag team would finish by laying into Vince McMahon and Bruce Prichard. “If Vince likes it? He needs to take that cognitive test that old f*cking president pigsh*t has taken; where he can identify the elephant from the donkey. Or if Bruce was in favour of this? I think he’s been to rehab before, somebody needs to f*cking check and see if Bruce has fallen off the wagon.”

Outspoken pro wrestling personality and former TNA, WWE and WCW on-screen performer Jim Cornette recently discussed a hilarious tale from TNA’s chequered legacy.
Cornette was discussing Championship belts on the Drive Thru podcast earlier this week when he revealed the faux pas from TNA’s production staff. 2005-2010 is considered by many to be the heyday of the Total Nonstop Action brand, with the likes of AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Abyss and Kurt Angle topping the card. Even still, the company that sometimes gets lumbered with the ‘LOLTNA’ meme in their later years were liable to gaffes even in this time frame.
Jim Cornette on ‘Losing’ The Belt
“Another time in TNA? It was years ago., like 2007-2008ish they did the pay per view in St. Louis” Jim Cornette would begin on the podcast. “They actually had to have a stooge in Florida that could get into the soundstage at Universal Studios to go in. Because they forgot the belt [TNA World Championship].”
Cornette would discuss how times had changed in the wrestling industry, as Champions nowadays rarely hold on to their prized possession. In the case of TNA it was kept ‘safe’ by the production team…so things like this didn’t happen.
“The champion wasn’t carrying the belt” Jim Cornette continued. “So the f*cking, you know, production people were supposed to bring it. They forgot the belt they had it at the soundstage. So they had the stooge go to the soundstage in Orlando, get the belt rush it over to the airport and buy it a f*cking plane ticket.”
Jim Cornette would finish by revealing that the belt not only had a seat on the plane, but apparently went under the name belt/championship (we can’t verify if this is true). “They put it on the goddamn plane and they had somebody in St. Louis go to the airport. They still didn’t get there on time, the pay per view had already started. They picked up the belt at the airport in St. Louis from Delta. The ticket was under the name of belt slash championship.”

Outspoken pro wrestling personality Jim Cornette recently reviewed AEW’s Double or Nothing PPV on his Drive Thru podcast. As you may have guessed, Cornette wasn’t exactly a fan of what he saw on the PPV itself.
It wasn’t just the content on the actual show that Cornette took issue with. Before the event AEW President Tony Khan tweeted out an image featuring himself, Mike Tyson, The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, Arn Anderson, Jake Roberts and Lance Archer.
The photo (see below) shows all of the stars, including the on-screen rivals Cody and Archer, smiling for the camera displaying the new AEW TNT Championship.
We’re minutes from our biggest show of the year #AEW Double or Nothing! It’ll be one of the best PPVs you’ve seen in a long time, I promise, it’s a great card with huge wrestling matches, some great stories + the return to ppv of @MikeTyson! Order if you can, you won’t regret it! pic.twitter.com/OBymriutfN
Cornette, as an old school style of wrestling promotor, took massive issue with this. “As I mentioned, I was not looking forward to seeing this show” Jim Cornette said on his Drive Thru podcast.
“Part of the reason why? We cannot forget about this, to preface the programme? Apparently they tweeted out a picture of Tony Kahn, Lance Archer, Cody and Arn [Anderson] on one side with The Young Bucks and Mike Tyson in the middle and Lance Archer and Jake Roberts on the other side. All mugging and smiling for the f*cking camera.”
Jim Cornette
Cornette would describe why he had an issue with on-screen rivals being part of the promotional image like this.
“After what Jake what two weeks ago? He dry humped Cody’s wife and put a snake on her! But because Mike Tyson’s star power is so magnetic, he was able to bring these two feuding entities. These two blood rivals together to mug for a picture and smile so they could tweet it out right before the f*cking show because they were so proud of that hubcap f*cking belt.”

Seth Rollins appeared on Corey Graves’ “After the Bell” podcast that was released today. During the conversation, Rollins responded to comments Jim Cornette made on his podcast regarding Becky Lynch.
Cornette criticized Lynch for becoming pregnant while she was on-top of the wrestling industry.
“What would you do if your wife came home and said instead of making a million dollars next year I’m going to basically just be a raging b**ch for the next 9 months and then give you more s**t to worry about around the house?” Cornette said on his podcast.
Rollins responded to Cornette’s comments at the very beginning of his discussion with Corey Graves.
“It hurt my feelings on a personal level because Jim Cornette is someone who is a legend in our industry and he is someone that I have personally worked with in my time at Ring of Honor,” Rollins said on the show.
“And for him to come out and say some real negative things, some real misogynist things about women in general and pregnancy in the industry, it kind of caught me off guard and made me lose a lot of respect for someone who a lot of people have kind of lost respect for.”
“This is something that I am so proud of my fiance Becky of what she is doing,” Rollins continued.
“Look, she’s 33, so once you hit 35 you start running risks with these pregnancies, so she made an incredibly tough decision.”
“She is the most talented woman I have ever seen in my entire life and she’s going to be just fine being pregnant, making money, doing alright. So everything that Jim Cornette said is complete nonsense, not just for her but for women all around the globe.”
Jim Cornette throws out a lot of insults and derogatory comments on his podcast. Many go under the radar but some do not. Recently comments Cornette made about Dana Brooke got back to her and she responded.
“Her entire face looks like it was remodeled after somebody set fire to it and put it out with an ax,” Cornette commented. “What the f**k has happened? Did she do that on purpose or was she in a horrible accident? What the f**k?”
@TheJimCornette how about you stop hiding behind a keyboard and come say it to my face!! Cause I doubt you would when you see me in person MARKKKKKKK – how about .. STOP SPREADING HATE & spread positivity! https://t.co/fgTRTeteFT
“How about you stop hiding behind a keyboard and come say it to my face!! Cause I doubt you would when you see me in person MARKKKKKKK – how about .. STOP SPREADING HATE & spread positivity!” Brooke Tweeted.
Some previous targets of Cornette’s commented in the Twitter thread as well. Austin Aries issued the following response:
Dana Brooke competed in the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match last weekend. She qualified for the match by defeating Naomi on Smackdown. Brooke and Carmella also recently teamed together to challenge the women’s tag team champions Nikki Cross & Alexa Bliss on Smackdown unsuccessfully.
After competing as a gymnast during her teen years, Brooke turned to bodybuilding and fitness competitions after an ankle injury. In 2013, she was signed to WWE and reported to NXT. Brooke has yet to win a championship in WWE but in 2017 was awarded the Female Image Award in the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding competition.
Former WWE on-air personality and backstage producer Jim Cornette recently made comments on the ‘independent contractor’ status in WWE. It is a conversation that has been going on for years; WWE hires wrestlers/on-air talent on an ‘independent contractor’ status which means that they do not get the same sort of benefits as a full-time employee.
This has been a point of contention for a long time, as WWE seemingly controls a lot of what their talent can and can’t do, thus seemingly nullifying the idea of the talent being ‘independent.’
Jim Cornette on Contracts In Wrestling
“F*cking contracts in wrestling” Jim Cornette began on this week’s episode of the Drive Thru podcast. “Once you get to the level of involvement with each other where you are working for a company like the WWE or like WCW? You’re an employee.”
Interestingly, Cornette would then state that AEW, a company that he has quite a few issues with, actually should be classing their performers as ‘independent contractors.’ “Now All Elite Wrestling? They run one day a week and then a pay per view every three months or whatever. You can work for other promoters. Anywhere where you legitimately can work for other promoters, or determine what your name is or how you’re presented? You’re an independent contractor.”
Full Time Employees
Jim Cornette continued to rip on WWE, saying “when you work for the f*cking WWE? You are a full time employee, you’re an employee in spandex. AND they’ve conned the government this long. You know, they’ll continue to do so until there’s a [wrestlers] union. And then the first thing that they’ll do is say ‘well this is f*cking ridiculous. We’re gonna call the IRS and talk to somebody important.'”
McMahon and…Trump?
Cornette would then finish by seemingly referencing the President of The United States, indicating how he and McMahon are both liable for crooked dealings.
“I’ve said this before, wrestlers should have always been independent contractors and should be independent contractors,” Cornette stated. “Because that’s the way that wrestling should be run. But if it’s going to be run THIS WWE way? Then the WWE wrestlers not being employees is f*cking idiocy, and it’s against the law. Guess who technically runs the IRS? We haven’t even seen dipsh*ts (Trump?) f*cking tax returns, much less get them to reclassify Vince McMahon and Linda McMahon’s employees but nevertheless. It’s just. It’s insane.”
The idea of a wrestlers union has always been prevalent, and potentially with the issues surrounding the handling of coronavirus by WWE it may be brought back into the fold once again.
Wrestling legend Jim Cornette recently weighed in on the ongoing situation regarding Ronda Rousey.
To recap, the former WWE RAW Women’s Champion recently indicated that she is very unlikely to return to the company, largely due to unappreciative fans.
Rousey said on ‘Jackass’ star Steve-O’s Wild Ride podcast, “I love performing. I love the girls. I love being out there … but, at the end of the day, I was just like, ‘F*ck these fans, dude.’ My family loves me and they appreciate me and I want all my energy to go into them.”
Ronda Rousey vs Nia Jax
It was recently revealed by Nia Jax that she had to go to WWE management regarding a WWE talent who was legitimately roughing up her friend Alexa Bliss during matches. Although not confirmed, it was heavily indicated that it was Ronda Rousey.
Nia recently commented on the situation, saying “I can’t wait for Ronda 2 one day return 2 WWE. Even if WWE orders me to make Ronda look good in the ring, which is the ONLY way for Ronda 2 look good in the ring w/me. I’ll risk my job 2 go down in history as the one from this biz that knocked her the F**K out! #TestMeBitch”
“So why did they put her in with Ronda Rousey? I have no f*cking idea”
-Jim Cornette
Jim Cornette Comments
“I can see why they [WWE] didn’t want to put Ronda Rousey in with Nia Jax,” Jim Cornette stated on his Drive Thru podcast. “Because they were trying to get Rousey over and she would not be able to do all of her sh*t and throw Nia Jax around like a rag doll etc.”
Cornette then questioned why WWE chose to put Alexa Bliss in a programme with Rousey initially. “I’ve seen that Alexa Bliss. She’s gorgeous girl but you know she is five foot nothing and doesn’t weigh 100 pounds or whatever the f*ck. She looks the furthest thing from physically intimidating. So why did they put her in with Ronda Rousey? I have no f*cking idea. Because they should have known a little lady like that cannot be f*cking thrown around.”
Cornette continued, “I don’t think Alexa Bliss has ever fought in a cage, I don’t think she’s been in any contact sports, she might have been a cheerleader whatever the f*ck. I would have picked one of the larger, more physically equipped ladies to work with Ronda Rousey especially if she was that f*cking dangerous.”
It looks as though this won’t be last that we’re hearing about Ronda Rousey and her time in the WWE.
Former WWE manager/announcer Jim Cornette recently weighed in on the Firefly Fun House match from WrestleMania 36 this past weekend. In an absolute shock to nobody, Cornette was not a fan of the match. Here’s exactly what the leader of the ‘Cult of Cornette’ had to say on the Drive Thru podcast.
Jim Cornette on Cena vs Wyatt
“What the fuck?” Jim Cornette began. “Just what in the tee total, french fried, t*tty f*ck was that? I like John Cena and I’ve never said anything bad about John Cena. I assume John Cena is gone from the WWE and will never come back? And the only reason he participated in this I would think, is because he’d never be seen again by this audience.”
The overall reaction to the match from fans appears to be mixed. Some have praised WWE for creating a storyline driven experience, helping to get Wyatt’s character back into the mix. However, Cornette would disagree:
“F*cking Lewis Carroll has Alice down the rabbit hole.”
Jim Cornette
“All right, how do I make notes on this? He [Cena] came to the ring, then Bray’s in the funhouse. Then there he goes through the door because the puppet tells him to. F*cking Lewis Carroll has Alice down the rabbit hole. They came up with new material that sucked donkey a**. I wrote the following: ‘this is the end of wrestling, why am I wasting my time watching this?'”
Boneyard vs Firefly Funhouse
Cornette would then finish by comparing the Firefly Funhouse match to the Boneyard Match from the night before. “This isn’t even a cool movie fight scene” Cornette stated. “This is just stupid, nonsensical. Even in the movie fight scene they weren’t obviously acting silly and doing schtick with each other. I’ve never met Bray Wyatt, but I’m disappointed in John Cena.”
It is not currently known where or if this storyline will be ongoing. John Cena has recently been on Twitter and Instagram, so the idea of an ‘alternate dimension’ may be off the cards. Not sure that Corny would enjoy that much either…

Kevin Sullivan will be appearing on Jim Cornette’s podcast, Jim Cornette’s Drive-Thru, to give his perspective of Nancy Benoit’s story. He will also be interviewed about how the tragedy and its fallout have affected him.
Cornette announced the news during a recent episode of his show. He stressed how he wanted to give Sullivan a platform to address the situation. He believes that the recent episode of Dark Side of the Ring unintentionally painted Sullivan in a negative light. The show premiered with a two-hour special on the Benoit family tragedy.
“The glaring exception was Kevin Sullivan and because he was not there to tell his story, he came off badly, undeservedly so I thought because a lot of us in wrestling know a lot of the backgrounds and more of the personalities and more of the stories than just these knuckleheads that think they know everything on the internet.”
Kevin Sullivan’s Untold Story
Jim Cornette shared how he brought up this issue with the show’s producer Evan Husney and director Jason Eisener. According to Cornette, Kevin Sullivan’s absence from the show can be attributed to either miscommunication or a lack of communication between the parties. Cornette promised that this would be a topic of conversation between himself and Sullivan.
“He didn’t know what the thing was gonna be like and he didn’t know how big this thing was going to become and he didn’t want to upset Nancy’s parents, but anyway now that Evan and Jason was kind of feeling bad that his story was not in there and as both you and I talked, we thought that he undeservedly came off badly because he wasn’t there to talk and just one line saying ‘Kevin Sullivan declined to be interviewed for this show’ made it sound like he had something to hide or he was trying to protect himself, when in actuality it was lot of case it was the other way around.”
Cornette explained that he’s not doing the episode for a “big ratings deal.”
Instead, he hopes that everyone will listen with an open mind in order to hear Kevin Sullivan’s unheard side of the story.
“[…] that’s the one [story] that has not been told, of all of this, that’s the one that hasn’t been told because of Kevin’s desire basically not to hurt the family anymore than they’ve already hurt by all of this…”
On the latest episode of his Jim Cornette Experience podcast, Jim Cornette goes into detail regarding his former business with the NWA. During the discussion, Cornette confirmed that the NWA was originally hoping for its programming to land on the WWE Network.
“The NWA show was what they were thinking was going to end up on the (WWE) Network,” said Jim Cornette.
“Then (Lagana) started talking about ‘well, we’re going to do a TV show,” Cornette said. “I said ‘what do you mean, Dave?’ He said ‘well, we’re going to start doing TV.’ I said ‘what would it be on?’ and he said ‘well we’re not sure yet but we think it might be on the WWE Network.”
“He did have meetings unless he was just bald-faced lying to me,” Cornette continued. Cornette then said he was skeptical about this actually happening but
“I said ‘do you honestly believe that the WWF is going to put an NWA television show on their network?'” Cornette said he asked Lagana.
“Finally, he called and said ‘Well, we’re going to do it on YouTube,'” Cornette said of his conversation with Lagana.
“Originally the NWA show was going to be on the WWE Network and then that didn’t work out and they put it on YouTube,” Cornette continued.
Cornette then went into detail about what led to his departure from the organization.
A link to the full podcast can be found here. You can also listen to the episode embedded below. The talk of NWA TV on WWE Network begins around the 13-minute mark.
The NWA has found its new color commentator as Jim Cornette is out and replacing him will be none other than Stu Benett aka Wade Barrett.
It was revealed at the end of the latest episode of Powerrr that Bennett will be joining the NWA commentary team at Into the Fire as he’ll be calling the pay-per-view with Joe Galli.
Cornette and the NWA parted ways after Cornette made a racially offensive comment a few weeks ago on Powerrr when Trevor Murdoch was battling NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis in a match.
Former SmackDown Executive Director Eric Bischoff has addressed the controversial comments recently made by Jim Cornette. On a recent episode of NWA Powerrr, Cornette remarked how “Trevor Murdoch is the only person who can strap a bucket of fried chicken to his back and ride a motor scooter across Ethiopia. Trevor Murdoch can take care of himself!”
Speaking on the post-show of his 83 Weeks podcast, After 83 Weeks with Christy Olson, Bischoff addressed Cornette’s statement. He highlighted Cornette’s unwillingness to adapt, and that this refusal to change with the times will ultimately put him “out to pasture.”
“Jim is a guy that is reluctant to adapt, and it’s really unfortunate because he’s a talented guy, he’s an entertaining guy, and he’s a very knowledgeable guy,” Bischoff said. “But if you’re not willing to grow and evolve and to understand the implications of some of the things that you do and say and how it affects other people adversely, then you’re going to get put out to pasture. I hope that doesn’t happen with Jim. But apparently that’s kind of what it appears to be. I don’t know where he goes from here… Who’s going to hire him? At this point, probably nobody.”
In the wake of Cornette’s statement, NWA took down the episode from YouTube to remove his statement. He is no longer a part of the promotion.
Jim Cornette has resigned from the National Wrestling Alliance and his duties as an announcer on NWA Powerrr.
Cornette and the organization came under fire Tuesday after the release of this week’s episode. During the broadcast, Cornette made a racist joke involving fried chicken and the African country, Ethiopia.
This wasn’t a late night tweet by Cornette or something that he blurted out during a live broadcast. The racist joke was made during a match taped nearly two months ago, an indication that NWA executives were aware of the offensive remark before it was published.
The episode in question was later edited, but the damage was done. Fans on social media were outraged and rightfully so. NWA World Heavyweight Champion issued a statement addressing the situation about NWA management’s “lack of judgement” –
I'm sorry for the inappropriate remarks and am glad to see they have been promptly edited out. I hope this is the first and last time an episode of #NWAPowerrr is overshadowed by something like this.
Effective immediately: Jim Cornette has resigned from the National Wrestling Alliance. As an announcer on the November 19th edition of NWA Power, Jim made remarks during a singles match between Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch that were both offensive and do not meet the high standards of decency and good faith of the National Wrestling Alliance.
To ensure that such an error can never happen again, we’ve established new procedures of review for all NWA programming going forward.
NWA had an unfortunate situation on Tuesday night that resulted in an edit being made to its latest episode of Powerrr.
The promotion had to temporarily pull the latest episode of the show because of a comment made by Jim Cornette, who provides color commentary for the show.
In the episode, Trevor Murdoch was battling NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis in a match. This is where Cornette’s comment was made that offended fans.
Cornette stated, “Trevor Murdoch is the only person who can strap a bucket of fried chicken to his back and ride a motor scooter across Ethiopia. Trevor Murdoch can take care of himself!”
NWA Vice President David Lagana took to his official Twitter account where he issued a statement and an apology for the comment.
Lagana tweeted, “On tonight’s episode of NWA Powerrr airing on November 19th 2019, one of our talents made comments which some viewers found offensive. We deeply regret the error and apologize. We have temporarily taken the program down while we correct this error.”
The National Wrestling Alliance has released a statement regarding controversial comments made by Jim Cornette. The NWA commentator makes controversial statements regularly but it was his comments making light of suicide that has drawn a response from the promotion.
Cornette’s comments regarding suicide were brought to light recently by Glenn Joseph Robinson, producer with WWE, NXT UK, and Progress. They can be viewed in the Tweets below:
I know a lot of "average people"and none of them are butthurt pussies with their panties in a wad over getting cussed out cause they're also, you know, grown adult men and not butthurt pussies like the crybabies you're dealing with right now, AW. They can cuss back or fuck off.
“Over the last few days, a situation was brought to our attention in regard to comments made by Jim Cornette that have been taken as making light on the subject of suicide.
We’ve addressed the situation internally with Mr. Cornette and made it clear that any comments in regards to this subject, joking or serious, are not endorsed by Lightning One and the National Wrestling Alliance.
Mr. Cornette understands the seriousness of this situation and with that he will remain the color commentator for NWA Powerrr.
Mental Health and Suicide Prevention are very important to the NWA President Billy Corgan and myself. If you’re ever needing help or need to speak with someone: The National Suicide Prevention Life Line is 1-800-273-8255 or online at https://suicidepreventionlifeline.org
Sincerely,
David Lagana
VP / Lightning One & National Wrestling Alliance.”
The NWA begins taping a new weekly studio show from Atlanta at the end of the month. The promotion’s first set of tapings take place on September 30th and October 1st, 2019 from Atlanta’s GPB Studios.
The NWA has just announced that Jim Cornette will be on the commentary team for the shows. They announced the news in the following YouTube video:

Jim Cornette Joins NWA Studio Show Commentary Team
“Hi everybody, this is Jim Cornette, you just knew the NWA couldn’t bring studio wrestling back without having me a part of it. I’m going to be a part of it, I’m going to be the color commentator for the NWA’s return to studio wrestling in Atlanta, Georgia.”
Billy Corgan spoke in a previous video about what fans can expect from the NWA’s new studio show.
“One of the biggest issues professional wrestling faces at the highest levels is production which is kind of a boring subject and because of the success of the major companies over the last 20 or 30 years, the audience has gotten used to really big looks,” Corgan says in the video.
“The professional wrestling that I grew up on was really more about the personalities being locked in a pressure cooker of a television studio which made you want to go see the big shows.”
During his ring introduction from MLW’s Fury Road event on June 1st, Sami Callihan spit a mouthful of water at Jim Cornette. Callihan also did damage to the venue during his hardcore match with Mance Warner that night, leading to his dismissal from the promotion. He recently appeared on Konnan’s “Keeping it 100” podcast and explained his altercation with Cornette.
Callihan was upset at comments Cornette made during his review of AEW’s Double or Nothing about Sonny Kiss.
“Sonny Kiss, who apparently got off his day job at the drag show at the f**king Tropicana,” Cornette said on his YouTube channel. “And I don’t know, but they’re not explaining any of this … the transvestite, or Exotico as they would say at AAA. Did anyone bother to explain why he looks like that? No! They just accepted that, ‘Here’s another member of our roster, no reason to — nothing to look at here, folks.”
Sami Callihan on Jim Cornette’s Comments About Sonny Kiss
Callihan had the following to say on Cornette’s comments while on Konnan’s podcast:
“In 2019 we don’t have to explain what someone of homosexuality or anything is because it’s 2019, everything is accepted on that terms,” Callihan said. “And then he wanted to just call him a transvestite, not even knowing what he was, and say ‘he got off, looks like he just got off from working a day shift at the f**king Tropicana as a drag queen.’”
“I’m like, that’s just ignorant, like that’s speaking ignorant,” Callihan continued.
Callihan would continue to give his opinion on why Cornette is so often critical of modern day wrestling:
“He goes after anyone that has any sort of notoriety because he hasn’t done anything in his career in the last 20 years to be worth s**t. So he wants to make money off of other people.”
Sometimes, you have to let people’s words and actions speak for themselves. Good & bad.
With that being said, I want to thank everyone for their support. 💕As a person who’s been publicly open about their sexuality since childhood, his “attack” was a complete fail. I’m good.
Jim Cornette’s review of AEW’s Double or Nothing PPV drew criticism from fans and wrestlers regarding his comments directed at Sonny Kiss. One of those wrestlers was Impact and MLW’s Sami Callihan.
Callihan, who wrestles with MLW where Cornette is a commentator, posted the following to Twitter over the weekend:
Cornette was not impressed with the Casino Battle Royale when he got to his comments regarding Sonny Kiss. He was quoted as saying the following during his review of Double or Nothing:
“Sonny Kiss, who apparently got off his day job at the drag show at the f**king Tropicana,” Cornette said. “And I don’t know, but they’re not explaining any of this … the transvestite, or Exotico as they would say at AAA. Did anyone bother to explain why he looks like that? No! They just accepted that, ‘Here’s another member of our roster, no reason to — nothing to look at here, folks.”

Jim Cornette can hate on Dinosaurs in wrestling all he wants, I’ve dealt with it for 65 million years. But I have zero tolerance when it comes to hate on the self expression of my talented friend @SonnyKissXO. There is no place for homophobia or any of Jim’s antiquated views.
Cornette issued several responses to Joey Ryan and others who have been critical of his comments.
First I invite everyone to listen to my review of the AEW Clown show Battle Royal, where about 15 guys were dressed like clowns doing silly, fake comedy wrestling. I'd like someone to find this non-existent "homophobic rant" @JoeyRyanOnline heard in his hallucination. https://t.co/MRDu8KP7BE
Apparently @JoeyRyanOnline 's REAL problem is I was knocking outlaw, fake comedy play-rasslers of which he is leader of the shitty pack. If one of them is gay, I have no problem with that, I DO have a problem with silly phony wrestling that embarrasses my profession–like Ryan.
Since I didn't know the guy was gay in real life, or say that he was gay on my show, or insinuate that that is a bad thing, I can't really tell where untalented jobber @JoeyRyanOnline heard this homophobic rant.
Maybe half-baked brown & serve roll covered in pubic hair @JoeyRyanOnline is mad because I'm so much more popular, i.e. EMPLOYED in wrestling while he cobbles together mud shows in dive bars to eke out a living as "jizz mopper at the porno store" job was taken?
Though few are entertained by @JoeyRyanOnline 's lowclass ring routine & fewer believe anything he says, to clarify–Joey's lying & stirring shit up because he's as fake a person as his wrestling is, & he doesn't like me. I didn't insult ANY gay people, just his clownish buddies.
And @JoeyRyanOnline , directly to you, asswipe–I'm sure you know somebody with my phone number, if you've got a problem with me grow some balls to go with your vienna sausage and say it to me directly–but that wouldn't go well for you, would it?
Cornette made a surprise appearance at the MLW: Intimidation Games event earlier this month, and served as an analyst for that event.
He will continue to serve in that capacity at the MLW events in New York on April 4th and 5th, as well as at the company’s first Milwaukee show on June 1st, and when they revisit Chicago on July 6th.
Cornette appeared as a guest on this week’s Jim Ross Report to discuss the continuation of his new MLW gig.
“I’m a failure. I can’t do retirement,” Cornette said. “Suddenly, I’ve been thrown into the jaws of the lion again with MLW as rotating color man.”
Cornette also clarified that his position is still a part-time role.
“Not full-time, as has been reported,” said Cornette. “They are running some events that are outside my travel range.”
Cornette also addressed how his association with MLW came to be. When the company switched it’s Fusion tapings from Thursdays to Saturdays, Tony Schiavone was no longer available. And so, MLW CEO Court Bauer called Cornette.
In a statement on the MLW website, Bauer says that he is happy that Cornette is sticking around.
“Jim is very talented and we’re very happy he’ll be staying on with us,” said Bauer.
