Jim Cornette Discusses The Importance Of Bruce Prichard’s WWE Return

Jim Cornette appeared on The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast this week to promote his appearance and 35th Anniversary Celebration of The Midnight Express at The Two Man Power Trip’s TMPT Con 3 this coming May in Richmond, VA.

During the interview, Cornette spoke about Bruce Prichard working as a Senior Vice President since rejoining the WWE a few weeks back. His start date was at Monday Night RAW TV event in Atlanta, GA last month.

Although he’s best known on camera as Brother Love, his work behind the scenes has earned him the great reputation that he has due to him directly working with WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon as one of his top lieutenants.

According to Cornette, he thinks Prichard will be able to articulate what McMahon wants to people probably better than McMahon can.

“It was about twenty-two years ago as a matter of fact and I was there when Vince got fed up and decided that he wanted to go with the only person that wasn’t responsible for anything and that is how we got Vince Russo because he was mad. Here’s the thing; he sends out in a lot of cases (and we used to joke about it) he sends out what he wants by mental telepathy and if you don’t pick up on it it’s your fault. I’m sure that he’s been thinking, Vince McMahon didn’t not hire Bruce Prichard back because he’s the greatest booker since Bill Watts or Toots Mondt, Bruce Prichard is going to serve on the creative team because Vince McMahon knows that Bruce get it. He gets it and he can relay it to other people. What is “it”? “It” is what Vince McMahon likes and what Vince wants and I he is probably (and I can see Vince sitting there) saying that they just don’t get it, these damn people and these kids they just don’t get it.”

“I guarantee you that Bruce Prichard will be able to articulate what Vince McMahon wants to these people probably better than Vince can because Vince sometimes sends it out by mental telepathy. But Bruce has been picking up on those signals for twenty-five years. So is Bruce going to come in and immediately re-write the television program and come up with the most interesting finishes since Eddie Graham, no. Bruce is going to be able to convey to everybody else what Vince wants. I didn’t comment on the quality or the quantity. I’m just saying that Bruce gets “it” and “it” is what Vince wants.”

Jim Cornette Clarifies His Position In MLW

Jim Cornette has opened up on his role with MLW after he showed up and was revealed as a new color commentator last weekend at the MLW Intimidation Games event.

With Tony Schiavone not being able to work Saturday events, Cornette was called to replace him for shows. The former WWE/TNA/ROH creative team member dished out the details on the latest episode of the Jim Cornette Experience.

This is where he noted that this was not something that was in the works for a long time but rather Court Bauer had called him up and informed him that they needed someone to fill in for the former WCW color commentator. He also agreed to do more dates.

“They were wondering if I’d come in and do New York in April for two shows. There was a very generous financial offer attached to this. We agreed to that.”

Cornett added that he is not full-time and detailing exactly what his new job entails. He also made it known that he doesn’t have a contract as he doesn’t want to take on a full-time job or be signed with a promotion.

“I was coaching promos, that is primarily what I was asked to do. We did the TV shoot on Saturday and guys got together for promos at the hotel on Sunday. I was involved in that.” He would later state, “Primarily, I’ll be helping newer guys with their promos.”

Jim Cornette Joins MLW As New Commentator

Last night on the Major League Wrestling tapings, Jim Cornette made his début in the promotion by joining the broadcast team alongside Rich Bocchini as a color commentator in Chicago, Illinois.

MLW CEO Court Bauer commented on Jim Cornette joining MLW. “The breadth and depth of our commentator pool sets the bar. Each commentator or analyst excels at bringing a passion for the sport which is a key driving force behind MLW’s programming.”

Jim Cornette joins Rich Bocchini, Tony Schiavone and Matt Striker as part of MLW’s English commentary team. MLW will make announcements regarding their broadcast assignments on a case-by-case basis.

PWInsider reports that Cornette will also be working behind the scenes as a producer. He is reportedly scheduled to be part of MLW’s back-to-back shows next month in NYC during WrestleMania 35 weekend.

Cornette has worked with the wrestling industry since he was 14 when he served as a photographer, ring announcer, timekeeper, and a magazine correspondent in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

He made his début as a manager in 1982 with Jerry Jarrett and Jerry Lawler‘s Continental Wrestling Association (CWA). He would go on to work with the WWE in many roles starting from 1993 to 2005. Cornette then worked for TNA/Impact Wrestling from 2006 through 2009. His last appearance in the WWE was at the Hall of Fame where he inducted The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express into the Class of 2017.

Cornette Comments On Viral Tampon Spot, JR Says Wrestling Is Overproduced Today, Lio Rush

Cornette Comments On Viral Tampon Spot

Professional wrestling legend Jim Cornette has offered his thoughts on the viral tampon spot making the rounds on social media. The clip shows former WWE Mae Young Classic competitor Priscilla Kelly pulling a bloody tampon from her trunks before shoving it in her opponent’s mouth. If you haven’t seen the spot yet, check it out here.

Cornette issues a response to the spot, saying it, along with the likes of Joey Ryan, are killing wrestling:

JR Says Wrestling Is Overproduced Today

Speaking of Cornette, WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently retweeted an old “Ross Report” clip featuring himself and Cornette. The segment showed Cornette and Ross bickering with one another back-and-forth. Ross said he and Cornette had no writers for this segment. He also declared professional wrestling is “way too overproduced today”:

Lio Rush Calls Out Crying Fans

Recently, 205 Live and Monday Night RAW star Lio Rush took to Twitter and took aim at wrestling fans who cry about wrestling, but still continue to watch. Here’s what he had to say:

https://twitter.com/itsLioRush/status/1081733658472529925

Rush recently lost an opportunity to place in the Fatal Four-Way match for the Cruiserweight Championship at the Royal Rumble. He was defeated by Kalisto, who will now face Buddy Murphy, Akira Tozawa, and another opponent to be determined for the title.

Jim Cornette Discusses The Future Of Cody And The Young Bucks

Jim Cornette thinks Cody and The Young Bucks are about to go all in.

With The Elite set to hit free agency and start their own promotion, all manner of wrestling pundits are chiming in with their predictions as to the success of a potential WWE competitor.

Jim Cornette appeared on a recent episode of Talk Is Jericho to give his take on the state of the wrestling business, and what the future may hold for The Elite.

“Six months ago, I would have said wrestling sucks, for reasons including the things people send me,” Cornette said. “But Vince just got two billion dollars for a TV deal. That’s gonna be the biggest thing.”

Cornette went on to explain what FOX’s large investment in WWE Smackdown means for the wrestling business as a whole.

“People are looking at All In, and what The Bucks and Cody have done, the resurgence of New Japan, and this and that. Vince’s deal is going to be the most important thing,” Cornette said.

“Because now, people with platforms are interested in wrestling again. There’s a lot of money in wrestling again.”

A WWE Competitor

Cornette believes that the time is perfect for a WWE competitor to hit it big.

“For 20 years, WWE has trained the people that the McMahons that run the company are the evil empire, they keep our favorite wrestlers under their thumbs, they threaten them with their livelihood,” Cornette said.

Cornette believes that the storyline portrayal of the WWE promoters as heels may have consciously, or subconsciously, contributed to the mainstream breakthrough of The Elite.

“So now 20 years later, these guys are starting to get hot… [With All In] they’ve hit on the brilliant idea that the boys are going to run their own show… And for once, the wrestlers get the money,” Cornette said.

Cornette’s full comments on Cody and The Young Bucks can be heard in context below.

Jim Cornette Explains Why He Can’t Watch Modern Wrestling

Legendary professional wrestling manager and personality Jim Cornette recently took to his podcast, Jim Cornette’s Talking Sense, to talk about several professional wrestling topics. During the show, Cornette went on a rant about modern wrestling and why he has a hard time watching it.

Cornette first pointed to the way WWE lights their arenas as an issue he has with the product:

“It’s always driven me insane, because the lighting should be the ring and the ringside area,” said Cornette. “Now, in between the matches, I was always in favor of turning the arena lights on, even in the places where they didn’t, because it was easier for us to get to the ring and back without being killed, instead of it being in the dark.

“But once the match starts, all the focus, all the attention in the arena should be on the ring and the ringside area… I’ve always hated the [WWE] lighting. It’s so distracting, and I don’t want to see all those people, I don’t want to see the arena. I want to see what’s going on in the ring and I want to lose myself in that.”

He also said that wrestlers today are doing too much. When he worked for Ring of Honor (ROH) he told the guys to hold off on doing major spots:

“They can’t scream any fu**ing louder,” Cornette explained. “What do you want them to do? Take a knife and cut their fu**ing arteries [because] they’re so excited? They’ll bleed out!”

Jim Cornette Remembers Vader

Jim Cornette recently took to his podcast, The Jim Cornette Experience, and shared some memories of his good friend, Leon White (a.k.a. Big Van Vader), who recently passed away.

Cornette remembered the hilarious interview with Vader and The Undertaker where the former WCW World Champ went nuts on the interviewer for making some disrespectful comments:

“Leon and The Undertaker, a rare appearance on any kind of talk show for The Undertaker on a talk show but they were in Kuwait. It was a big tour, it was a sold tour for a lot of money. They were being interviewed on one of the morning news shows like ‘Good Morning Kuwait’ I think actually might have been the title of it or whatever the host just, actually said to the side some blatantly disrespectful stuff to the guys sitting there about how he thought that wrestling was all fake and a show.

“Whereas Undertaker kinda sat back and was cool he didn’t say anything at first, Leon turned around and backhanded snatched that guy by his tie and his shirt and I’d had Leon snatch me when he was working and he’d yank all your chest hair out and it was stiff and the guy just s–t himself. Leon cut a little promo on him and let him go and kinda just pushed the little coffee table over and everything. They detained him.

“I guess some people would remember, some might not have been alive it was over twenty years but they detained him in Kuwait. After the tour was over all the guys left and were glad to get on the plane to come home and they kept Leon for a while deciding what to do. There was daily reports being called in. Vince called him ‘our man in Kuwait.’

“You know he stuck up for the business I think more than I would’ve in Kuwait if I would’ve been there, but finally, they let him go. I can’t remember if he paid a fine or whatever but they let him get back on the plane. You know that wasn’t necessarily the venue to protect the business but he did it. I admired him for that.”

Cornette then shared a story about Vader getting too close to some pyrotechnics while under the stage and becoming disoriented:

“At the Raw tapings in the 90’s during the Attitude Era, they started using all that pyro to open the show, right? I guess Leon I guess didn’t know exactly what time of night it was or the show was about to start but he walked under the stage where you could walk under the Raw stage and you could look out and see the crowd and the arena and the people.

“You could watch matches from under there, you know if you peeked through the curtain people couldn’t see ya. So it was something people did every once in a while but not right at the start of the show because they’re about to blow all the pyro off on top of the stage. He walked under the goddamn stage and nobody saw him or caught him and he was peeking out at the crowd and the building when suddenly they blew this s–t off right on top of him.

“All of a sudden several of the boys were sitting backstage and they see Leon come back out from under the stage and he’s holding his head in both hands and he’s swerving from left to right like in the cartoons, right? Like he couldn’t figure out which was he’s gonna fall down. He drops to his knees and he couldn’t hear, people were screaming: ‘Leon! You okay?!’ Anyway, it was a famous moment there and poor Leon finally he could hear later on but god o mighty. I can’t imagine — it would’ve been like being shelled in the military.”

Kenny Omega Responds To Jim Cornette Burying His Work

Jim Cornette is not a fan of Kenny Omega. As he does with all of his opinions, Cornette has made this one perfectly clear.

While previous rivals of Cornette’s have gone so far as to take out restraining orders against him, Omega believes a good hard-handed Tweet is enough to get the job done.

Cornette sent out the following response to a video of Kota Ibushi giving repeated Canadian Destroyers to a dummy:

To which Omega responded with:

Jim Cornette vs Kenny Omega on Social Media

Kenny Omega really has warned Cornette about tagging him in his posts before. Omega has said Cornette can bury him all he wants but would rather he didn’t tag him in the comments so that they appear on his Twitter timeline.

Omega first made these statements to Cornette last year:

The Young Bucks were a little surprised that Omega let Cornette off so easy:

https://twitter.com/NickJacksonYB/status/888077757527097344

Meanwhile, Chris Jericho at one time thought Cornette would make the perfect manager for him while he feuded with Omega.

What is Jim Cornette’s Issue with Omega and the Young Bucks?

Cornette’s old-school no-nonsense approach to pro-wrestling is unwavering. As a result, he is not in favor of highspot-centric wrestling which he feels is exhibited by many of today’s modern wrestlers.

In some cases, Cornette believes this wrestling is too dangerous and at other times he feels it hurts the credibility of the sport.

In response to a question about why he continues to tag Omega in his posts, Cornette posted the following:

Kenny Omega probably isn’t too concerned about Cornette at the moment, however. One of the biggest matches of his career is upcoming at NJPW’s Dominion show on June 9th, 2018.

Omega will challenge IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Kazuchika Okada, in a best 2-out-of-3 falls match. Should Omega be victorious, he will only be the second member of Bullet Club to win the IWGP Heavyweight Championship.

Jim Cornette Reacts To Vince Russo Being Banned From “All In”

Professional wrestling legend Jim Cornette recently took to his podcast, The Jim Cornette Experience, to offer up his thoughts on Cody Rhodes telling Vince Russo to “stay away” from All In this September.

Russo has been mentioning the event quite frequently lately, and seems very interested in making an appearance. Cornette had this to say about Rhodes banning Russo from the Chicago event:

“He knocks them all the time, so why would he want to, if he believes he has any credibility, why would he want to associate himself with that where then people would have to say ‘well, look. Russo knocks them,” said Cornette.

“Same thing I thought immediately. Russo knocks them, but he’s not above a payoff to come up here and be a part of the thing. That was my main consideration for not being involved, because I don’t want people to think that I’m a f***ing hypocrite. But he has no problem with that.

“But then, to not know enough to take the booking and not realize that a bunch of the people on the show that are running the show because it’s the boys running the show, I believe we’ve mentioned that, that the boys wouldn’t want you on [the show] because… dealing with him is like picking up a turd from the clean end. There’s absolutely no way to do it where you can please the majority of the people involved in the situation, because nobody wants him around.”

Jim Cornette On What WWE Should Have Done For Stars Who Missed Greatest Royal Rumble

WWE’s recent Greatest Royal Rumble event took place amidst controversies as on one hand, it featured some of the biggest names the company has to offer, on the other, several stars were forced to miss the show.

During a recent interview with Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline, Jim Cornette talked about the Mega Live event among other things.

While talking about the stars who were forced to miss the show, Cornette said that the company should have given them a good sum of money because WWE itself made tens of millions:

” Sami Zayn, they don’t want you, so I tell you what. I’m gonna give you 50 grand, go buy you a brand new SUV and you don’t have to make that flight. And girls: here you go. Here’s a brand new sports car for all of y’all and you don’t have to make that flight and get beat up.”

For those who don’t know, the Greatest Royal Rumble did not feature any Women’s matches due to the cultural restriction of Saudi Arabia. Similarly, Sami Zayn was apparently forced to miss the show due to diplomatic reasons.

It’s worth mentioning here that there have been reports of WWE paying the Women’s roster a good bonus for the event despite the fact that they were not included in the show but these claims have not been confirmed by a reputed source yet.

Triple H Talks Passion of NXT Stars, Jim Cornette on Mark Henry’s WWE Hall of Fame Induction

Triple H Praises Desire of NXT Talent

Last year was a wild ride for the WWE and NXT was certainly no exception. In 2017, Bobby Roode, Drew Mcintyre, and Cien Almas emerged as the cream of the crop on the brand. We also saw Asuka continue her dominance until leaving for Monday Night Raw. A new women’s champion then emerged and her name is Ember Moon.

San Antonio, Orlando, Chicago, Brooklyn, and Houston were all the destinations for NXT’s TakeOver events last year. The WWE Network is taking a look back with its “Best of NXT 2017” special. Here’s a first look with Triple H praising NXT talent:

“The superstars of NXT scratch and claw everyday to be the best. They give it their all to be the best. But the truth is, we cannot do any of it without you. We say it all the time, “We Are NXT.” And we truly mean that. Without the NXT universe, without all of you, we are nothing. You rise us up, you make us bigger, stronger, and better. And that’s what we do. We go to the ring every night, our NXT superstars, and they leave it all out there for all of you.”

Jim Cornette Thrilled With Mark Henry’s WWE HOF Induction

Legendary wrestling manager Jim Cornette is happy to hear that Mark Henry is on his way to the WWE Hall of Fame. Henry will join the class of 2018 which includes stars such as Goldberg, Jeff Jarrett, The Dudley Boyz, and more. It’s a long time coming for Henry, who has been with the WWE since 1996.

During a recent episode of “The Jim Cornette Experience,” Cornette talked about Henry’s road to this moment:

“The Hall of Fame has gotten one right, and I don’t mean they’ve never gotten one right before but I’m saying this time the good guy wins. To a nicer guy, it couldn’t happen. Mark Henry is going in the WWE Hall of Fame and I am wholeheartedly behind that because I’ve known Mark since he showed up there for 22 years or whatever.”

Jim Cornette Has High Praise For WWE UK Stars

Jim Cornette is a fairly outspoken personality in the wrestling world, his views on the ‘modern’ style of pro wrestling ala The Young Bucks have been in the news once again and as always are fairly disparaging.

In a slight change to usual proceedings Cornette has some praise for a match from this week’s NXT show. The main event for the WWE UK Championship between Tyler Bate & Pete Dunne has been garnering plaudits from fans online and now Cornette has described the two young superstars as “WAAY beyond their experience level” and that they “mix modern style/WOS style well, at their ages they will be stars for years to come.

Did you enjoy the WWE UK Title match from this week’s NXT? How far do you think Bate & Dunne can go in the WWE? Let us know in the comments.

Daniel Cormier & Jim Cornette Take Shot at the Young Bucks

UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Daniel Cormier, recently reacted to a clip of the Hung Bucks vs. Flip Gordon, Titan, & Dragon Lee from ROH’s Final Battle 2017 on Friday.

Flips vs. Old School Wrestling

Cormier’s comments are similar to those expressed recently by Vader (in response to the Best of the Super Juniors tournament last year), Randy Orton (…dive), and in storyline by Drew Gulak.

Jim Cornette has made his objection to such wrestling known for some time. He recently responded to a post the UFC’s Chase Sherman made in reference to the flippy dropkick spot from Friday:

This got the most hated MMA fighter in Brazil, Colby Covington, to take sides with the Young Bucks.

Pro Wrestling According To Al Snow

Al Snow recently sat down with Harry Kettle of CLICKON Sports to discuss everything pro wrestling; here are the main highlights from the interview:

Al discussed his simplistic view on gimmicks within sports entertainment and selling a character or persona to an audience:

“If they cannot describe you to their friends and family in a sentence or less, then you’re no good. You’re not gonna be successful, or as successful as you can possibly be. If you’re not able to do that, no matter how talented an individual may be, male or female. Steve Austin was always a beer drinking, ass kicking redneck. You have to deliver on what you’re selling to the audience.”

Thankfully for him, Al Snow’s character was very easy to describe in just one word: insane.

“I was involved in a lot of interesting storylines and things like that, and a large part of that was because my character was insane. I was free because of my insanity to do absolutely anything. A lot of guys say Al Snow was a comedy wrestler, but I wasn’t a comedy wrestler. I didn’t do any of it for comedy, I did it to be entertaining.”

However he contrasts the beauty of being free with his view on the possibility of missed opportunities:

“Sometimes you’re in the forest so deep that you can’t see the trees. You don’t even see the opportunities that are there until you get further out, and then you realise ‘oh that was an opportunity’ or ‘oh I blew that one’. As far as regrets though, I never regret being a professional wrestler. I’ve lived an amazing life, and the only regret is that at some point it’ll have to come to an end. That’ll be hard.”

One opportunity that he didn’t miss was the chance to work as a trainer and to help those around him become successful.  For those who are unaware of who he’s helped, here’s what he had to say about training some WWE greats:

“Steve Austin came and spent several days with me at one point when I had my school in Ohio to kind of get the ring rust off. Glenn Jacobs [Kane], D’Lo Brown, CM Punk spent time with me, Beth Phoenix, Alicia Fox, Cody Rhodes, and I can go on and on. I had a hand with some of these guys either from the ground up or later on, so I’ve had quite a lot of wrestlers who are enjoying some level of success in professional wrestling that I played a factor in.”

Al expanded upon his professional training with how perceives his personal success.

“It’s a big thrill for me to watch my students succeed on any level. I’m just so proud of them, and I really believe and have determined that whatever legacy I leave behind in wrestling is going to probably be my training. I’ve been blessed to have been an in-ring performer for going on 36 years, and in that time I’ve made a lot of mistakes, so that gives me a wealth of experience that I can pass on. They can understand where I made my mistakes, and I can help to prevent them from making it themselves.”

In the final high-light, he offers a piece of advice on permission versus forgiveness.

“You’d be surprised at how much control a performer actually has once they step foot in the ring. Something may work, or not work, but that’s on you. The phrase that’s used the most is ‘always ask for forgiveness, never ask for permission’. If you ask for forgiveness, then you take your chances. You may have to come back and say you screwed up, but at least you took your shot.”

Jim Cornette Corrects Accusation Regarding Santino Marella Incident

Former WWE Superstar Santino Marella and Jim Cornette got into a heated altercation earlier this month at a wrestling convention where they exchanged some words with one another. Marella wrote an open letter explaining what happened at the convention and Cornette responded on an episode of his podcast, Talking Sense.

When video emerged of the altercation Marella called Cornette “a racist mother f***er,” while Cornette said that he has slapped Marella multiple times in the past and would do it again. Their beef with one another stems back to 2005 when Cornette slapped Marella at WWE’s then-developmental program of Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). The incident led to Cornette losing his job as OVW booker.

Marella’s letter explaining the incident claimed that Cornette had left him a scathing message. Cornette originally denied that accusation, but it seems that he’s now changing his tune on the matter:

“I may have very well called Santino Marella and left him a nasty message (laughs),” Cornette said. “As I said, I have no memory of this and I’ve never had this guy’s phone number, etc., etc. But he gave more details, he said that a friend of his immediately texted him afterwards and said, “Oh my God, dude, I didn’t know he was going to do that.” … So apparently by that evidence I’m able to at least entertain [that I did that].”

Cornette claims that fans regularly come up to him and ask him to cut promos on their friends over the phone, noting it’s also possible a fan approached him with the opportunity to do this to Marella:

“So I assume now, since I have no memory of this because it was so important to me, that some knucklehead came up [to me] and said ‘Hey, I’ve got Santino Marella’s phone number,'” Cornette said. “At which point did he ask me to cut a promo on him, or he thought I wouldn’t do it, or was I in a grumpy mood, or did I even believe it? I don’t f***ing know because I don’t remember it. But it is a correction that I will admit that I could’ve happened.”

Jim Cornette Comments On Exposing Himself At Recent Live Show, WarGames

Jim Cornette was the latest guest on this week’s “Dinner With The King” Podcast. During the 90-minute show, Cornette spoke with Jerry “The King” Lawler about taping Raw commentary from WWE headquarters back in the late 90’s, why he and Kenny Bolin are not friends anymore, Kevin Dunn and much more.

Cornette recently made headlines for ‘exposing himself’ during one of Bruce Prichard’s recent “Something To Wrestle” live stage shows. Here’s what he said about the incident:

“As we were sitting there at our two man podium, I noticed there were several photographs on a table next to me. One of them happen to be of a gentleman named Vince Russo. I held it, as Bruce Prichard was speaking, and I help it up. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I couldn’t warm up to Vince Russo if we were cremated together. I hold this photo up, and many people react to this. It’s almost like Trump holding up a picture of Obama. I stood up, and Bruce saw it. I guess he’s on a budget. He said, ‘Corny, don’t tear it up.’ Because I was going to tear it up.

So I put the picture down and I was standing it over. I was attempting to channel Jimmy Valiant doing the dog-peeing spot without actually getting on my knees because my knees are bad. I grabbed my shirt with my right hand and with my left thumb I hook the band of my elegant sweatpants that match the Cornette face shirt. I was going to do the quick pulldown, like I’m going to do it, but no, I won’t. Apparently the left thumb went a little too far south for just a second, I don’t know. Little Johnson and the twins could have available for a brief second. Everybody roars and sits down.”

Cornette also gave his thoughts on WWE using WCW PPV names and gimmick matches such as Starrcade and War Games:

“I thought they should have done War Games from the very first. That’s one of the greatest gimmick matches that consistently worked where nothing else was working, that worked. They have never done multi-ring matches, because they think it won’t translate well to television. That’s what I always heard. Yes, they should try those concepts. Why not do a Starrcade-themed PPV mixing live matches with the history of Flair to Race for the NWA Title to The Skywalkers to the WCW era. It sells their product.”

Santino Issues Statement Regarding Jim Cornette Altercation

Former WWE Superstar Santino Marella issued the following statement to Fightnetwork.com regarding his altercation with Jim Cornette at a wrestling convention over the weekend in Detroit.

You can see video of what transpired between them here.

“Hi everyone, ok so here’s my one-and-only official statement regarding Cornette. He can definitely dish it out so lets see if he can take it too. You will soon identify a reoccurring theme here, he’s complete bullshit, from head to toe. My original stance from day one was to just let him rant and NOT to stoop to his level, and I tried to for a long time, but sometimes a brother gots to set things straight. Its important to note that Cornette has been lying for so long about all this stuff that he actually believes it like an actually memory. Some would say he’s a good bull-sh**ter. But it’s actually called being a compulsive liar.

12 years ago I moved to Louisville to train at OVW, after a month of the beginners class I was invited to the intermediate class where I would train with the legendary Rip Rogers. At that time I was also invited to come and watch an OVW TV taping. Upon arrival to my first ever TV taping I was told I could sit in the student area in the audience. Keep in mind I’m with my daughter and simply a member of the audience, or so I thought.

The show starts, its great, and then there’s the debut of the bogeyman who was supposed to leave the arena through an emergency door directly behind us, no one gave me the 411, so as bogeyman was leaving he turned right towards us and I thought he was gonna do me a solid and scare my daughter thus creating a memory that she would never forget, so as a dad I was pretty stoked, and yes I was definitely smiling. The bogeyman then jars the guard rail, we all run, and he exits out the door. It’s all on YouTube if you care to see it. Actually I encourage one to do so, so you can see for yourself that I’m not laughing. Hence BS #1. There was never any agenda to the whole thing. I wasn’t trying to be anything other than a fan. I wasn’t part of the show, heck it was my first time there for show. Gosh when I look back now I was so green to everything but I was definitely enjoying a pro-wrestling show with the rest of the audience. The eagerness, the learning, the dedication, they’re all fond memories.

I’m then summoned to the back where Cornette is flipping out and proceeds to slap me several times. He claims 17 but lets just call that Bullsh**#2. I had no idea what he was even talking about. I remember saying just that, which of course got him even more mad. I remember him saying “you are nothing in this business”, and I’m like yeah no sh** I literally just signed up here a month ago lol. He knew I couldn’t do anything, he took complete advantage of the situation, and he assaulted someone, period, and probably should have been arrested and charged for that matter. He acted completely unprofessional and very much disrespected the business he claims to love, I say claims to love cause all he ever does is go on completely negative rants about various aspects and his personal opinions. All that hatred and negativity must be such a heavy burden to carry around all the time. He has become his own prison sentence, left to marinade in his own negative filth. Thank God he has become a non-entity and quite frankly irrelevant for some time now. His overall contribution to the industry has been quite damaging and by no means, is he an authority. He was merely tolerated and permitted, by real men, to be around the business during one of the best eras in history. Hey don’t get me wrong I’m not an authority either but I’ve been around great men in this business that truly are and trust me he is NOT on that list. Most people in the industry generally think him of as an asshole and loser today. Most, but not all. There are those few that do like him and that’s 100% fine by me.

He also said that Bogeyman was furious at me and wanted to kick my ass, so years later and after I got to know Marty pretty well I asked him about that night and he said he was just upset at his “wardrobe malfunction”. They failed to calculate the effect that the ring lights would have on Bogyman’s makeup and it was proving to be an issue. Thus the original source of that segment’s frustration is what I always thought. So what are we at now, BS #3?

Cornette was subsequently fired and pretty much resented me ever since. I don’t hate him. I don’t hate anyone but he was in the wrong and everyone knows it, especially him. That is why he so desperately tries to put me down and make excuses as to why he acted the way he did. The answer is simple Jim, because you are and insecure poor excuse of a man.

I would get asked about it from time to time but mostly down played it as it really didn’t bother to too much. I’ve endured much more than a slap, or 7, in my life. I actually do have a few friends in the business that still like Cornette so I thought that perhaps we could have had a good working relationship if things had been different. I was not opposed to learning from him, in fact I regret not being able to. I was taught to respect my elders in life in general, and my seniors in the pro-wrestling business, and until this moment I have.

Fast forward 10 years and I’m now forced to retire due to 2 neck surgeries. My WWE career was a dream come true, an amazing 10 year chapter in my life, and I am forever grateful to all the fans all over the world. I sacrificed everything important to me and risked it all to make it. I gave it more than 100% and am quite proud to say that I made it on my own merit. When I got hired almost 2 years after the incident and thanked Johnny Ace for not holding the incident against me he didn’t even know what I was referring to. I had to actually remind him, which was nice cause it reassured me that my employment was by my own hand. So trying to say that I was gifted my job is a big pile of BS, #4 in fact, and Cornette knows that too. I get it, it’s quite simple, he’s just trying to press my buttons and stay relevant. However it’s the time I spent away from my daughter that I will not allow him to diminish.

My intention was not to be a comedy wrestler, (check out my Boris Alexiev videos on YouTube) but I was given a once in a lifetime opportunity and I ran with it, just like anyone would do in my position. Looking back I actually love the fact that I was able to bring laughter into people’s homes, and for so many years. It’s entertainment. It’s my absolute favorite thing to hear from fans, that I made their family laugh. I think laughter is the greatest indicator of having a good time. I don’t know if he was just jealous because he was not athletic enough to make it in the ring as a wrestler or what, but he’s definitely made some poor comments over the years. I actually heard through a pretty good source that he can’t even cast a fishing rod. Now that’s uncoordinated. You might as well hand your balls in if you can’t cast a fishing rod. Look I’ve been given the stamp of approval by people that actually matter so I’m able to rest well at night when it comes to my in ring ability. Sorry buddy but comedy is an essential component of Sports Entertainment. Honestly shouldn’t you actually know that? And btw Kay Fabe was ruined long before I ever laced up my boots. I too wished it hadn’t been, but it is what it is. We work with what we have, whenever we get our chance to do so. The business has evolved, and it will continue to evolve. Those that can’t adapt, can’t evolve, get left behind. And please don’t hate on WWE, it makes you look really pathetic. Vince has done a million times more for this business than you will ever be credited for. Bottom line is he is one of the most successful people in the world, and well you are definitely not Vince. Put it this way, when I grow up I wanna be like Vince, but if I ever end up like you, I will consider my life a failure.

Little does Jim know that all those countless negative comments and rants just make him look like an unconfident bitter person that has no class. That is why I never made a big deal about it because he was already doing a great job of tarnishing his own legacy. He sh**s on the comedic component and my in ring ability but duh I’m from OVW so he’s actually sh**ting on himself and the company that he partly owns. He’s also sh**ing on his “friends” Rip, Danny, and Al, that all had a hand in my development and training, plus I can list off many great and iconic comedic wrestlers, 1st and foremost however is the late great Bobby Heenan. Now you try and tell me that he had no place in wrestling and well I would have to say that you really don’t know as much as I thought you did about Pro-Wrestling Mr. Cornette.

So one day I see that I got a voicemail from my friend Josh in Tennessee, then I get a text saying “omg I’m so sorry I didn’t know he was going to do that” then I get a call from Josh and he’s all upset about Jim Cornette tricking him in to calling me and then taking the phone from Josh and going on one of his classic rants. Keep in mind I’m still in bandages fresh out of neck surgery so yeah I’m a little shocked that he could actually stoop this low.

So I mention the message he left in my shoot interview with Rob Feinstein and after it circulated a few people left messages for Cornette on social media letting him know what they thought of what he did. So now his panties are all bunched up, yet again, and he goes off on his podcast actually denying the whole thing. A blatant lie told to all of his loyal listeners, BS #5. I guess he was ashamed of what he did so he just pretended it didn’t happen, and then proceeds to say again it anyway, lol, duh you just stooged yourself off shmarts. Anyhow no skin off my back, it is what it is, and then he proceeds to call me midget, goof, etc. lol come on Jim you are known for a tennis racket, please tell me you are kidding me when you call me a clown, you were a red nose shy of being the biggest clown in wrestling history. I think they call that “projecting”, like when he accuses me of disrespecting the business, when in reality its all he ever does. He also stated that he will slap again the next time he sees me.

Fast forward to the Cobo Centre in Detroit last Saturday and his table is just 2 tables down from mine, so I know at some point we will have a chance to meet, as in actually meet, for the first time, since I don’t consider our first interaction an actual meeting, because no greetings and pleasantries were exchanged etc.

As I’m heading back down the hallway after I got a bite to eat, its Jim and I walking straight towards one another and no one is around, what a perfect opportunity to talk it over and hopefully hash things out. I say Hello sir and I extend my hand to shake hands. After all why not, peace is better then enemies right? Its funny he looked shocked to hear my real voice, lol, mark. He then proceeds to try to tell me about what happened 12 years ago like I wasn’t there lol, insults me, disrespects me, and then tries to walk away. I remember being disappointed in how poorly he was dressed that day. He made no effort at all to make himself presentable to meet his fans, visibly dirty clothing and in poor health I actually felt bad for him, until he decided to be a piece of garbage once again. I said to him that I was hoping we could walk away from this with a new found respect for one another after possibly talking it out, and that I always regretted not learning from him. I always hope for the best in people, like my mom. He laughed and said that he had no respect for me, called me a joke, and that he should slap me again, that’s when I said to myself f*** this guy, there is no way in hell he’s going to punk me off after what he did all those years ago, so I said “do it” “please”, “slap me again and see what happens” trust me Jim it was not so that I could “sue” you. That’s what you see in the video. Me cutting him off and saying “do it then”. You cant make a claim like that and then walk away, at least not where I’m from. It was at that moment that I saw his true colours. He tried to run away and actually cried out for security. I guess his wrestling instincts kicked in because he was a classic heal, brave guy when back up is around, but when its just him and the baby-face alone at the end, he begged off. What happened to slapping me the next time you saw me Jim? Then when he saw a fan and or security personnel his mock bravery started to kick in and he started to put on a show, Cornette style. He was a complete b**** as I expected he would be, if it ended up going down this way, and when it was just the 2 of us, nose to nose, eye to eye, quite frankly a coward. And believe you me I called him those exact words to his face “coward” and “b**ch” and all he did was turn another shade of red. He knows in his heart that I saw it in his eyes. He can never say anything about it again because he backed down after shooting his mouth off so that’s BS # sh** I lost count. He also said publically that he decided to leave when we all know he was kicked out, escorted out in fact. Taken out like the trash that he is. So don’t forget to add another one to the BS list. It was the perfect ending, the bully got what he deserved in the end.

Sorry to all the fans that came out to the convention and show. I really tried to put it all behind us. Cornett had other plans. Sometimes we just have to take a stand.

I hope the show was still a blast, well I’m sure it was because there were a great bunch of guys performing that night!

So I now get to have some closure from the original incident. I get to return to my wonderful Canadian life, and come home to my hot Polish fitness model wife. This week we are going camping up north to enjoy the beauty of mother nature, kayaking, hiking, fishing etc . . . . . let me guess you’re gonna go on a few rants this week. Truly pathetic bro, sad, but hey enjoy them cause for a brief moment people are taking about you. And we all know how important that is to you. In the wrestling business you are always one headline away from having your spotlight taken away. And since the shield has reunited . . . .well I guess its gone.

The End!

Sincerely (so help me Jesus)

Anthony Carelli”

Jim Cornette and Santino Marella Argue At Wrestling Convention (Video)

A video has surfaced of Jim Cornette and Santino Marella having a heated argument today at a wrestling convention in Detroit, Michigan.

This public spat took place at the Cobo Center, which saw past and present wrestling stars come together for the XICW Cobo Legends Convention.

According to Cornette on Twitter, he left the event early following the confrontation.

There has been heat between the two dating back to 2005. Marella, real name Anthony Carelli, began training that year at Ohio Valley Wrestling, which served as WWE’s developmental promotion at the time. During an angle at a show in July 2005 where he was supposed to act afraid of The Boogeyman, but instead laughed, Marella was shouted at and slapped by Cornette, OVW’s head booker, and co-owner. This incident led to Cornette being fired as OVW booker by WWE.

Roman Reigns Says He Respects John Cena, Jim Cornette Celebrates 35 Years

– Following his win over John Cena at last night’s (Sun. September 24, 2017) No Mercy pay-per-view (PPV), Roman Reigns took to Twitter to express his newfound respect for “The Leader Of The Cenation,” and declared that he’s still the ‘Top Dog’:

– Jim Cornette took to Twitter to celebrate 35 years since managing his first match: Sherri Martel vs. Velvet McIntyre on Memphis TV back in 1982:

Jim Cornette Done With Global Force Wrestling

According to F4WOnline, Jim Cornette is done with Global Force Wrestling. Jim Cornette was called in by Jeff Jarrett in August to return to GFW. The agreement was for Cornette only to work one set of television tapings to help along few storylines. Those storylines being stripping Alberto El Patron of the GFW Championship, the on-screen firing of Bruce Prichard so he could return as a heel manager, and try to make Anthem Sports & Entertainment babyfaces to fans of Global Force Wrestling.

Cornette and Jarrett agreed that he would come back for Bound for Glory and then for a few days of tapings in November. However, Jeff Jarrett is no longer in the company and the company’s creative, headed by Scott D’Amore and Sonjay Dutt, are more focused on the in-ring product and less on authority figure angles.

Bound for Glory is set for the Aberdeen Pavilion in Ottawa, Canada on November 5th. GFW will also hold tapings November 6th through the 10th. Cornette hasn’t been to Canada since he was turned away at the border in 2010 due to his record of arrests from years ago, most of them were incidents involving fans who attacked him while he was a manager in the 80s. Cornette explained to Dutch Mantell that he would not be able to appear at Bound for Glory or the tapings since they were being held in Canada.

Cornette agreed to go to Nashville and do whatever needed to be done on camera for his storyline exit from the company, but as of now there are no plans for him. Cornette says there is no heat over his GFW departure and it was just a matter of circumstances. Cornette is expected to go into more detail about this on his podcast this Thursday.

Jim Cornette Comments On His New Role With GFW (Audio)

Jim Cornette made a surprise appearance on Thursday’s ‘live’ edition of Impact Wrestling and immediately made his presence felt.

In light of Alberto El Patron being stripped of the GFW World Championship due to his conduct outside the ring, authority figure Bruce Prichard announced that he would be presenting the championship to the man Alberto defeated to unify the TNA/GFW titles, Bobby Lashley. Lashley’s music hit, but out came Cornette, who proceeded to fire Bruce Prichard on behalf of Anthem executives. He also announced a championship gauntlet match for next week’s Impact, the results of which you can find here.

Cornette spoke with his podcast co-host Brian Last on Thursday night about what transpired on Impact. Cornette has been very outspoken about TNA (including Dixie Carter and of course Vince Russo), but said he likes a challenge and is looking restore order in GFW. He added that he’s not currently under contract with GFW. “I’m not a member of the Global Force Wrestling roster. I’m not interested with anything full-time with any promotion.”

Jim Cornette Returns To GFW, Announces GFW Title Gauntlet

On tonight’s Destination X, Bruce Prichard addressed the crowd about the situation with the GFW Championship. Prichard claimed that Alberto El Patron voluntarily vacated the title and that he now planned to give the title to Bobby Lashley.

Jim Cornette arrived and stated that he had other plans. Cornette claimed that he got a call from Anthem and he was asked to help fix Global Force Wrestling. Cornette then fired Prichard, who was then escorted out of the ring by security.

Cornette once again said that Anthem wanted to make things right and claimed that El Patron was stripped of the title and that he did not relinquish it.

Cornette announced that their will be a 20-man Gauntlet match next week to determine the next GFW Champion. LAX approached Cornette as he was about to leave. Low Ki said that there should already be a #1 contender and threatened Cornette. Low Ki will be 20th in the Gauntlet match.
