WWE’s Natalya Reportedly Working on Hart Family Movie

The legendary Hart family could be the subject of an upcoming movie, following the success of A24’s The Iron Claw.

The Iron Claw delves into the lives and tragedies of the Von Erich wrestling family and has been met with praise by wrestling fans and critics. Even pop sensation Adele described the biopic as her favorite film of the past year. Despite this, The Iron Claw received zero nominations for the upcoming Academy Awards.

A Hart Project In the Works?

Given the popularity of The Iron Claw, there’s been speculation about other wrestling stories making it to the big screen. On Instagram, Natalya posted a photo of herself with Rory Culkin, the star of movies including Signs and Scream 4. Jordan Levine and Jordan Beckerman of Yale Productions were also in the photo.

Natalya’s caption made clear that she is working on something close to her heart. Fightful Select reports that this something involves possibly making a movie based on the Hart family. Levine and Beckerman have reportedly had an interest in the idea for some time. Culkin, like his brother Macauley, is a known long-time wrestling fan.

The Hart Family Out of the Ring

If this film makes it to the big screen, it won’t be the first time that the first family of Canadian wrestling has been covered. WWE has released several documentaries about the Harts including individual DVD sets about Bret and Owen Hart.

Outside of WWE, Bret and his family worked with Trimark Pictures to create 1998’s ‘Wrestling With Shadows.’ The documentary gives an in-depth look at the highs and lows of professional wrestling and features Bret recounting his life in the business from a wrestler’s perspective. Wrestling With Shadows, which also covers the Montreal Screwjob, received a 25th-anniversary Blu-Ray release last year.

First WWE Hall Of Fame Class Of 2019 Inductees Revealed

Arguably one of the greatest tag teams of all time will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame this year. According to a report from PW Insider, the Hart Foundation are set to be honored over WrestleMania weekend.

Bret Hart, Jim Neidhart, and their original manager Jimmy Hart will all receive the honors. Bret Hart was originally inducted into the Hall in 2006 while Jimmy Hart was inducted the year prior in 2005.

Sadly, Neidhart will be a posthumous inductee as we lost him this summer at the age of 63.

The Hart Foundation – WWE Hall Of Fame

Bret and Neidhart both joined WWE after Vince McMahon purchased Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling territory in 1984. They began teaming together at Bret’s request in 1985.

The Harts would enlist the help of “Dangerous” Danny Davis, a corrupt referee, to win the titles from the British Bulldogs on an episode of Superstars from January 1987. After a 274 day reign, they would drop the titles to Rick Martel and Tito Santana.

Bret and Neidhart would turn babyface and win the titles for the second time in 1990. They defeated Demolition at SummerSlam that year. The Hart Foundation held the titles for another 209 days before dropping them to the Nasty Boys at WrestleMania VII. Shortly after, Bret began a single’s career and Neidhart would move on to form the New Foundation with Owen Hart.

The Hart Foundation rank 3rd all-time on the list of most combined days spent with the tag titles.

Natalya On What The Rock Said To Her After Her Father Died

Natalya, Nia Jax, and Lana recently appeared on “Good Day New York” on Fox 5 to help promote Total Divas. During the interview, the topic of Natalya’s father Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart was discussed. Natalya mentioned that Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson reached out to her through Nia Jax (Rock’s cousin) and said some inspirational words to her following her father’s death.

“He reached out to me — he actually gave me powerful words of just not really having to say goodbye,” Natalya said. “He goes ‘you don’t have to say goodbye to your dad. You can have him with you forever.’”

Natalya Says Goodbye to the Anvil

Natalya also mentioned the family was not prepared for Jim’s untimely death.

“He was definitely going through some health issues but it wasn’t anything that was gonna take his life. For us, it was finding the right way to say goodbye.”

It was also revealed during their appearance on the show that Natalya’s father will appear in the upcoming season of Total Divas.

Shortly after Jim Neidhart’s death on August 13th, Natalya released a statement on what her father meant to her.

“There was no one like him! I’m just gonna miss him so much,” a segment of Natalya’s statement reads. “We are going to hold all of the moments we had with him close to our hearts forever and never let them go. I promise to keep your memory alive. We love you so much, Daddy!”

Natalya Pens Goodbye Letter To Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart

Natalya penned a letter to her father in the Calgary Sun recently. The wrestling world is mourning the loss of Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart, who passed away on August 13th.

“I really want to thank everyone for all of the love that they’ve shown to my dad and my whole family in the past week,” she begins her letter.

“Daddy — as I affectionately called him — and I were so similar in a lot of ways, and we shared that extra-special bond of professional wrestling and our careers.”

Natalya Remembers Jim “the Anvil” Neidhart

Natalya’s family is one of the most famous in wrestling history. Her father was involved in some of the most highly-praised tag-team matches along with Bret Hart and the British Bulldogs. Natalya mentioned in her letter that Anvil would text her all the time with wrestling advice.

“He would send me random text messages to work on my dropkicks and get at least two dropkicks in every match,” Natalya wrote. “Because that’s what Dynamite Kid would do.”

Natalya shares many heart-warming messages about the Anvil in her article. It certainly sounds like the Anvil was a wonderful father.

“I didn’t know it then, but my dad was my rock star. I’m glad that I got to follow in his footsteps to proudly carry the Neidhart name forward in WWE.”

More Details On Jim Neidhart’s Passing

We have some more details on Jim Neidhart’s passing.

It was announced yesterday that former WWE Tag Team Champion Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart had passed away. Neidhart is the father of current WWE Superstar Natalya. WWE paid tribute to Neidhart with a video package during Monday Night RAW last night.

According to a report from TMZ, Neidhart fell down at around 6:30 A.M. in his Florida home. He passed away shortly thereafter. Neidhart’s wife, Elizabeth, told emergency personnel that Neidhart collapsed while having a seizure. He hit his head during the fall.

She added that Neidhart got out of bed after having difficulty sleeping. He was going to change the thermostat. When he touched the thermostat he “turned weirdly as if he were about to dance. He then fell towards the wall and ground.”

Elizabeth subsequently called 911 as she thought he was suffering from a seizure. She noted that Neidhart “suffers from seizures and takes medication” for them. Neidhart hadn’t had a seizure since December of 2017.

When emergency personnel arrived at Neidhart’s home in Wesley Chapel, Florida, he was found on the floor with a four-inch gash on his face. Investigators also found medication in the home but determined that it had not been abused.

4 Great Jim Neidhart Matches to Watch on the WWE Network

Wrestling legend Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart passed away on Monday morning. He was 63 years old and he leaves behind an incredible legacy as part of the Hart Foundation.

To honor the talented and charismatic powerhouse, we’ve put together a list of his best matches. SEScoops writers Brad Davis, Damon Martin, Ian Carey and Jeff Moss have each picked a match that you can watch on the WWE Network. Here they are in chronological order:

Hart Foundation and Danny Davis vs. The British Bulldogs and Tito Santana (WrestleMania 3)

hfwm3

Damon Martin: The Hart Foundation’s feud with the British Bulldogs was one of the greatest tag team rivalries in WWE history when they started having a series of matches around 1986 and 1987. The two teams ended up in a six-man tag match at WrestleMania III with the Hart Foundation as one of the biggest heel factions to ever compete in WWE. Teaming up with ‘evil’ referee Danny Davis was just a stroke of genius and putting them over that night only made the fans hate them that much more. The heat from the crowd in Detroit that night was legendary and the Hart Foundation revelled in every second of it.

The Hart Foundation vs The Brainbusters (SummerSlam 1989)

Hart Foundation at SummerSlam 1989

Jeff Moss: In 1989 the Hart Foundation was on the rise and at the second Summerslam, the pair faced off against Tag Team Champs Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard, aka The Brain Busters. In the storyline, the match was signed before the Brain Busters became champs, so the titles weren’t on the line. That said, to be able to watch a young, all-pink Hart Foundation face off against two of the Four Horsemen is an absolute treat. The workrate and finesse in this match is amazing and the pure strength and toughness that Neidhart and Anderson bring to the table completed the perfect ying to the yang. An underrated classic in this reporter’s opinion, and not just because it features some of my favourite wrestlers of all time. And Tully.

The Hart Foundation vs. WWF Tag Team Champions Demolition – Best of 3 Falls (SummerSlam 1990)

Hart Foundation at SummerSlam 1990

Brad Davis: The things you loved as a child will always have special meaning to you. The late 80’s and early 90’s are considered by many to be a golden era of WWF. The British Bulldogs were a little before my time, so Bret and Anvil were to me the pinnacle of a complimentary tag team. Technical excellence matched with brute force. Calculated execution and unhinged madness. The odds were stacked against the Foundation in this match, which made the dramatic victory that much sweeter. Demolition had recently introduced Crush as a third member, leading fans (and the Hart Foundation) to wonder if the babyfaces would get a fair shake. They didn’t – but it didn’t matter. The Legion of Doom, new to the World Wrestling Federation at the time, stormed to ringside late in the third fall to even the odds. The finish, with Jim Neidhart delivering a shoulder block to Crush and Bret Hart getting the roll-up pin, is pure magic. Neidhart laying over Bret after their win, unleashing his signature laugh, is a moment I’ll never forget. RIP, Anvil.

The Hart Foundation vs. Team USA (In Your House Canadian Stampede, 1997)

Hart Foundation at IYH Canadian Stampde

Ian Carey: Canadian Stampede in 1997 was the ultimate event if you were a Canadian wrestling fan at the time. It was the Hart Foundation (Bret Hart, Owen Hart, Jim Neidhart, Davey Boy Smith and Brian Pillman) vs Team USA (Stone Cold Steve Austin, Ken Shamrock, Goldust and The Legion of Doom)  with the WWE fanbase being divided against each other based on geography. It was the Olympics meets wrestling and it was awesome. Jim Neidhart was not Canadian, but that didn’t matter. His association with the Hart family was all that mattered. Following the match that night, Nattie Neidhart, TJ Wilson, Harry Smith, and Teddy Hart all celebrated in the ring with the elder generation. More than any Hall of Fame induction could do, this match and PPV celebrated all that the Harts have brought to wrestling.

Jim Neidhart Has Passed Away

We are saddened to report the passing of wrestling legend Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart. He was 63 years old. Jim Neidhart was the father of WWE Superstar Natalya. He was a 2-time WWF tag team champion as part of the Hart Foundation with Bret Hart.

Jim Neidhart earned the “Anvil” nickname in high school by setting records in shot put. He would later play in the National Football League (NFL) with the Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys. In 1979, Neidhart became a professional wrestler after undergoing his training at the hands of Stu Hart in the legendary Dungeon.

After some time in Japan, Neidhart signed on with the WWF in 1985 and was paired with a young Bret “The Hitman” Hart in the Hart Foundation tag team. Known by their bright pink ring gear, the Hart Foundation became two-time WWF Tag Team Champions.

When Bret began his singles career, Neidhart stuck with him and eventually Brian Pillman, The British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith and Bret’s younger brother Owen joined the stable and the Hart Foundation became one of the premiere groups in wrestling leading into the Attitude Era.

Later years saw Neidhart struggle with his health and personal problems. He was arrested in 2010 and charged with possession of controlled substances. He also attended two stints in WWE-sponsored rehab and was last seen on the reality show Total Divas with his daughter, WWE Superstar Natalya.

We send our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart.

Roderick Strong On His Loyalty To ROH, Training With WWE Legend, Aries/Shelley

Ring Of Honor wrestler Roderick Strong recently spoke with Marc Madison of News Hub about a number of different ROH and TNA related topics. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On his training under Jim ‘The Anvil’ Niedhart: “It came about because my dad and dad’s buddy’s wife worked at a doctor’s office and she was actually the front desk receptionist. Jim Niedhart would come in there because it was his local physician and one day my dad’s buddy called him and said hey, do you want to be a pro wrestler and my dad was sure. My dad had an athletic background so even though he was a little bit of an older man about 38-39 years old, he was why not it would be a good hobby and was always about trying to stay in the best shape as he possibly can. I didn’t know who the trainer was at the time. Being a big wrestling fan and being so young 12 at the time, my parents were separated so my dad said I’m going to bring you to this practice but you have to be well behaved. I started freaking out when I realized exactly who it was and that I would be going there 3 times a week. Eventually from going and watching Jim just saw how excited I got about going. He eventually let me get in the ring and play around. It was just something from watching it visually and studying it so much that it I was able to do at the moment and something I saw that it was something I could do. He saw a little something in me.”

On working with Austin Aries and Alex Shelley: “It’s been noted that in Ring of Honor that it was Gabe Sapolsky’s idea of putting us together as a group and none of us really knowing each other, other than saying hello at different shows. We did that and it was as fantastic opportunity for me and the others. He thought we were ready for that but it says a lot about him (Gabe). We made history together as a team. The four of us together including Jack Evans helped to save Ring of Honor and it always holds such a special place in my heart.

In TNA, it was something where they saw how hot Generation Next was and they wanted to do something similar but I felt they wanted it as proactive and putting in themselves in people’s faces because we had some fantastic chemistry. I had fun doing it and the fact that every single one of them are great wrestlers. I can’t really complain being in the ring with those guys.”

Natalya Talks Owen Hart & Jim Neidhart In WWE HOF, Titus O’Neil Driving Her Nuts & More

WWE Diva and Total Divas star Natalya appeared on Elvis Duran and the Morning Show’s “The Josh Podcast” to promote the current season of WWE Total Divas on E!.

Below are highlights from the interview:

On Titus O’Neil:

“Titus O’Neil likes to be on our reality show a lot. He manages to find his way every time we are filming a scene, he will have to come up and talk about something stupid that has nothing to do with anything. Titus is great he just drives me nuts. I’ve had him on one too many road trips and at one point he had way too many refried bean burritos and it was potent to put it mildly.”

On whether or not her father, Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, should be in the WWE Hall of Fame: “I definitely think my dad [Jim Neidhart] can be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. That’s my biggest dream is to have my dad at the Hall of Fame and it would be so cool to see my dad and Bret get inducted as the Hart Foundation, that would be awesome, and there’s not doubt in my mind that’s going to happen. Of course, I would be inducting them.”

On her uncle, Owen Hart: “It’s not hard for me to talk about Owen. Owen is a very special topic because he wasn’t just your ordinary person. He really went above and beyond, going out of his way to touch peoples lives. When he had a day or two off at home he’d visit children’s hospitals, people never knew that. There wasn’t Instagram or Twitter or anything that he could post on and it wasn’t even something WWE set up.”

On Owen Hart in the WWE Hall of Fame: “One day I do think that the WWE will have Owen in the Hall of Fame, and when they do it’s going to be big and its going to be really, really special. I hear all sorts of people saying, including my cousins Georgia and Harry, their dad is the British Bulldog, they are always like, ‘we want our dad to get in the Hall of Fame’, with the WWE they do have a rhyme and a reason for the things they do. The WWE isn’t going anywhere, it’s going to be around for a long, long, long time. When they pick people to go into the Hall of Fame its a very selective process. I think you’re going to see both Owen Hart and the British Bulldog in the Hall of Fame, but its going to be at the right time. I know that when both of them do eventually get inducted it will be really special, we can celebrate as a family. I have complete faith that they will both get in there.”

  • Jim Neidhart Talks Post-Montreal Screwjob Run In WCW, Bad WWE Gimmick, More

The following are highlights of a new In Your Head Wrestling Radio interview with Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart:

What was the story behind your ‘Who’ gimmick in the WWF? “Oh brother; I’ll tell you, that was some real BS. I think it was more like a little punishment thing. I think they found some of that horrible devil weed in my system, and finding the devil weed they suspend you, let you go home for a couple of weeks to rest up. They threw me back on the road and said OK, we’re going to torture him a little bit; we’re going to take that pink and black off you and throw you in a yellow mask as a single…If you never worked with a mask on before, wow. It’s a big, big difference; you can’t see. You had no peripheral vision…If you’re wrestling with that mask on; you have to look at your opponent constantly. It’s way, way harder to wrestle with a mask on than it is without, because you have to tell the people what you’re doing a little bit without actually looking at them; you have to use way, way more body language, which is really different. I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody, walking into a big venue sold out and you’re trying to do a single with a mask on and you don’t know what the hell you’re doing.”

What were your feelings on your WCW run (after the Montreal Screwjob)? “I’ve never made so much money doing absolutely f**king nothing. It was ridiculous. I made almost $300,000 in twelve months to do absolutely nothing, and accomplish nothing. They didn’t know what they were doing; it was ridiculous…It’s a shame; they had so much talent going through there but they didn’t have anybody that knew what the hell they were doing. Eric Bischoff, I guess, was in charge with Hogan and that crew, and I thought the nWo thing was kind of cute, but they never had any real direction toward it.”

WWE’s original plan for the Natalya vs. Charlotte match for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship at the WWE Network live special, “Takeover,” on May 29th was to have Bret Hart and Ric Flair in their respective corners for the match.

Apparently Hart had an issue that made it impossible for him to appear at the event, so the plan now is just for Flair to be in Charlotte’s corner. There was some discussion that Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart, Natalya’s father, would be used in Hart’s role, however most believe that it won’t happen.

WWE Total Divas Results (7/28): Nikki/Cena Marriage Talk, Backstage At WM29

The following is a report from the series premiere of the new weekly WWE reality series on E!, “Total Divas.”

Total Divas kicks off with introductions and back-stories on some of the key characters on the show, such as the Bella Twins, the Funkadactyls (who are going by their real names, Ariane and Trinity) and Natalya (going by the name Nattie).

The show begins in Tampa, Florida. “10 Days Until WrestleMania.”

Trinity is dating John, known to WWE fans as Jimmy Uso, one half of the tag-team known as The Usos. The two are shown training to prepare for their first WrestleMania as wrestlers.

Nattie is shown training for WrestleMania with her father, WWE legend Jim “The Anvil” Neidhart in Tampa.

Now we meet Nkki Bella’s boyfriend, John. As the show notes, you may recognize him, he’s the current WWE Champion — John Cena. Cena and Nikki are shown at Cena’s home. They show a video package on Cena.

Next up we meet Brie Bella’s boyfriend, Daniel. Again, WWE fans may reocgnize him as Daniel Bryan. Brie notes that while he’s known in WWE as Daniel Bryan, his real name is Bryan Danielson.

We get to roam around backstage at a WWE event to see how the organization is run behind-the-scenes, as well as what goes into putting on a live event and television show. At the same time, we see Nattie in her hotel room preparing to go to WrestleMania. As we head to commercial break, we find out that Nattie is not going to be on WrestleMania.

    –Commercial–

We return and we get to meet the newest addition to the WWE Diva roster, Eva Marie and Jo Jo. Nattie runs into the Bella Twins at their hotel. They show the new Divas meeting with Jane. Jane is a WWE Talent Relations official. The show how Nattie is treated backstage, which doesn’t come off well on this show.

Ariane is shown talking to her boyfriend in the hotel room. It is explained that Nattie basically has to babysit the new girls, the Funkadactyls and their boyfriends at WrestleMania, instead of getting to perform on the show.

We are backstage at a WWE event again, and ths time we see some heavy-duty drama. It is explained that Brodus Clay blew up at the Funkadactyls and other talent off-camera. Ariane ends up explaining to her boyfriend, Vincent, why she appeared to be noticably upset. Vincent, who is a pretty big guy, but not big enough, became irate. He repeatedly asks Ariane to go get Clay so he can confront him. Eventually, Nattie and Jimmy Uso have to tell Ariane that she needs to calm him down immediately. Someone also notes that Vincent would get his ass kicked.

    –Commercial–

We return to some more drama, only a very different version. We are back in the hotel room with the new girls and the Bella Twins. The Bella Twins are upset that the new girls, specifically Eva Marie, look similar to them. They inform her that she needs to dye her hair blond.

Major Heat On Mysterio, Bad Ref Error On RAW, Neidhart

    – As you can imagine, there is major heat on Rey Mysterio right now for his latest Wellness Policy violation. People are in disbelief that Mysterio is getting paid big money to sit at home while recovering from his latest injury – yet he reportedly came up positive for a narcotic drug.

Some people think that Kevin Nash’s recent tweet about a friend being released from WWE was referencing Rey Mysterio, but at this time, there has been no official announcement about him being released. He is currently serving a 60 day suspension and will be cleared to return to the ring at the end of May.

    – A major error occurred on Monday’s RAW. Chris Jericho was supposed to defeat Big Show by count out in the Beat the Clock Challenge match, but the referee messed up the  count. While Jericho was going to win by 1 second, the plan all along was for Daniel Bryan to win the series and challenge CM Punk for the WWE Title.

    – As noted several months ago here on the website, Jim Neidhart had a hearing on April 12th and was sent to jail, where he has remained since then. Neidhart will soon be heading to the Salvation Army in Tampa, FL for a substance abuse in-house rehab program.
