DEFIANT Wrestling has announced the first bout for their upcoming ‘Lights Out’ pay per view event on March 19th. The show will be taking place at Leeds’ O2 Academy and tickets are available to purchase via DEFIANT’s Official Site.
The already announced names for this well hyped event were Rampage, Jimmy Havoc, Martin Kirby, Joe Hendry, Primate, Mark Haskins, Aussie Open, Kay Lee Ray and Millie Mckenzie…and the first bout announced is:
DEFIANT Internet Title Match – Travis Banks (c) vs WALTER vs David Starr
This will be the first time that new Internet Champion Travis Banks defends his title on PPV and it is against two of the top names on the UK circuit. Both WALTER and David Starr have become PROGRESS and wXw stalwarts and WALTER is currently the ATLAS Champion in the company (interestingly Banks is the PROGRESS World Champion), this will be a hard hitting strong style bout and is not one to be missed.
The Magnificent Seven briefcase Match will also be making a return at the ‘Lights Out’ event, with Rampage confirming his place in the bout on this past Friday’s episode of Loaded on YouTube.
2018 will see WWE’s WrestleMania event head to New Orleans for the first time since WrestleMania 30. For fans who have made the trip to the ‘grandest stage of them all’ it isn’t just the big event that draws you to the host city, with Axxess, the Hall of Fame and the RAW after Mania always providing some gravitas to the biggest weekend in professional wrestling.
But it isn’t just WWE that invades New Orleans this year, the MoreThanMania brand will be once again bringing some of the finest independent stars from across the globe to WrestleMania weekend, and amongst them will be the cream of the UK scene…so here are 3 stars that you simply cannot miss seeing on that weekend in April.
Mark Haskins
Haskins is quite simply one of the most technically proficient wrestlers on the planet right now. The former PROGRESS World Champion (as are the other two of our choices here) has been tearing it up on the UK scene over the past year with DEFIANT, IPW:UK and of course PROGRESS. Now one half of the PROGRESS Wrestling Tag Team Champions, Haskins has been using his experience to work with younger stars and build them on the company’s monthly Chapter shows. A true clinician in the ring and a veteran who you simply cannot miss if you are in New Orleans. Check out his bout against Martin Kirby from DEFIANT Wrestling below:
Jimmy Havoc
The longest reigning PROGRESS Champion in history and the winner of CZW’s Tournament of Death 2017…Jimmy Havoc is one of the premier death match performers on the planet, but to simply just refer to the Camden based star as a “deathmatch guy” is almost a disservice, he is a complete all-rounder. Since returning from a career threatening knee injury Havoc has been reinventing his style and can be slotted anywhere on a card with ease, be it in an epic back and forth main event or alongside his Tag Team partner Mark Haskins earlier in the show. Havoc also has a penchant for the humorous (albeit a fairly dark humour) and when he decides to bring that to the forefront in his bouts it kicks up a level and sets him apart from others in the deathmatch field. Again a true veteran on the UK scene and someone not to be missed.
Will Ospreay
If you are already a fan of New Japan Pro Wrestling then this man needs no introduction, but if you have never seen Will Ospreay perform then you are in for a treat. The current reigning IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion made the jump to Japan a few years ago and has looked every bit the star that the UK fans knew he would be on the international stage. You’ll be able to catch Ospreay on at least two cards over Mania weekend as he’ll be performing on EVOLVE’s 102 event and for PROGRESS. You can also see Ospreay perform as part of NJPW’s upcoming 46th Anniversary event on NJPWWorld.com against IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada in his first ever NJPW Main Event. Trust me when I say that I was lucky to see Will perform in small buildings across the UK before he hit the big time, because this won’t be the last time he main events in Japan or anywhere else he decides to wrestle…
Combat Zone Wrestling has announced the date for their next Tournament of Death. The 2018 iteration will be taking place Saturday June 9th from the ‘Ultraviolent Underground’ 179 Ebenezer Church Road in Townsend, DE. Tickets for the event will be available to purchase in March.
CZW’s TOD is one of the most violent events in the wrestling calendar; light tubes, planes of glass and even barbed wire trampolines are commonplace and blood is always guaranteed to be shed by the bucket load.
Last year saw former PROGRESS World Champion Jimmy Havoc take the crown at the first time of asking, whether he will be involved in the 2018 event remains to be seen.
PROGRESS has announced two more bouts for their upcoming Chapter 61 event at the O2 Academy in Birmingham, England.
Newly crowned IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay will be facing the debuting Australian Adam Brookes, Ospreay has made the Australian scene a home away from home recently and now he will be welcoming one of the country’s best to UK shores.
From welcoming Australia to PROGRESS we get this…Jimmy Havoc and Mark Haskins will be looking to cause absolute destruction when they face the impressive Aussie Open, comprised of Kyle Fletcher and Mark Davis this team has been establishing themselves on the UK scene over the past year and now they get their sternest test in PROGRESS against the two former PROGRESS World Champions.
PROGRESS has announced two tag bouts for their upcoming Chapter 58 event this Sunday. The team of Chris Brookes and Kid Lykos (also known as #CCK) will be taking on the Grizzled Young Veterans comprised of Zack Gibson and James Drake for the PROGRESS Tag Team Championships.
Drake and Gibson were expected to challenge for the belts back at Chapter 56 however due to injury Lykos had to forfeit and Jimmy Havoc took his spot in the bout. There is a very good chance that the Veterans take the belts here as PROGRESS looks to rejuvenate their Tag Team title scene heading out of the British Strong Style run earlier this year.
Speaking of Jimmy Havoc…he and Mark Haskins will be taking on the young team of Connor Mills and Maverick Mayhew. PROGRESS have decided to throw their own ‘young lions’ to THE lions in Havoc & Haskins who recently turned heel and run roughshot over Jack Sexsmith and David Starr, expect this to be a bloodbath.
PROGRESS has also released a teaser video with the tagline ‘Til Valhalla. The company often use social media as a way of hyping an appearance at a Chapter event and this could be leading to a new debut, who it may be is completely up in the air at this time.
UK promotion IPW:UK has enlisted the services of former WWE producer Jimmy Jacobs as well as former Ring of Honor World Champion Christopher Daniels for their Clapham Calling event on March 18th 2018.
Jacobs will be taking on one of the most dangerous men in Independent wrestling, Jimmy Havoc. Both men have a penchant for the extreme and this match looks set to be nothing short of a bloodbath.
Christopher Daniels will be taking another former TNA roster member in Doug Williams. Doug is now celebrating 25 years in the wrestling industry and he is out to prove why he is one of British wrestling’s pioneers. This is not a bout to be missed if you’re a UK based fan.
PROGRESS has unveiled the final 2 matches from their upcoming Chapter 57 show: ‘Enter Smiling.’
Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate) will be taking on the Grizzled Young Veterans, comprised of Zack Gibson and James Drake. Bate & Seven have been portrayed as heels on the preceding chapter shows however their appearance alongside Pete Dunne at last month’s Electric Ballroom show saw the PROGRESS faithful cheer the longtime antagonists.
Another massive tag team bout has been announced and will see the new team of Jimmy Havoc & Mark Haskins take on Jack Sexsmith and a mystery partner. Sexsmith has been teasing a number of names to appear alongside him, including ‘The Game’ Triple H (although this obviously isn’t likely…).
Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW) has announced two big matches as part of their ‘Road to the Hydro’ shows. This Saturday sees the company hit Sheffield and the ICW Champion Joe Hendry will be defending against WWE UK’s Wolfgang and the Zero-G Champion BT Gunn will be defending against Former PROGRESS World Champion Jimmy Havoc.
These shows are building towards ICW’s biggest event of the year: Fear & Loathing X, which takes place inside the SSE Hydro on November 19th and will feature Former WWE/WCW Superstar Rey Mysterio, Kevin Nash, Rob Van Dam and more.
UK based promotion IPW:UK recently made a blockbuster announcement for their December 17th show in Rochester, England. Former WWE 205 Live Superstar Austin Aries will be making his way back to Great Britain for the company at their ‘Undisputed’ event and now IPW have another ace up their sleeve.
Former PROGRESS World Champion Jimmy Havoc will be taking on former TNA Champion Abyss in a Monster’s Ball match. If you know Havoc’s history then you know exactly what he is capable of in a no holds barred environment. Conversely if you know ‘The Monster’ Abyss then you also know exactly what to expect on December 17th!
Tickets are still available to purchase via the IPW:UK site.
PROGRESS will present their biggest card of the year this Sunday. Chapter 55 – Chase The Sun will feature some of the most highly anticipated bouts in company history and includes BOLA, WWE UK and NJPW stars Pete Dunne, Travis Banks, Zack Sabre Jr and more.
PROGRESS has now announced that Jimmy Havoc and Mark Haskins will clash in a Deathmatch. Havoc is well renowned for his ‘King of the Deathmatch’ moniker and he won this year’s iteration of CZW’s Tournament of Death. This will be Mark Haskin’s first ever Deathmatch and he is dead set on taking the ‘crown’ away from Havoc. This is not one to be missed and SEScoops will be at Alexandra Palace live with all the info.
PROGRESS has unveiled the full card for their upcoming Chapter 53 event ‘Fate Loves the Fearless.’ Here are the matches that will be taking place on Sunday July 30th:
PROGRESS Women’s Title Match: Toni Storm (c) vs Candice LeRae – This is quite possibly the highest profile Women’s title match since the inception of the belt. Both women will be a part of the Mae Young Classic for WWE and both are being labelled as heavy favourites for that tournament. I’m expecting Toni to retain in what could easily steal the show on this packed card.
PROGRESS Tag Team Title Match: British Strong Style (c) vs Jimmy Havoc & Mark Haskins – Both Haskins and Havoc are trying stake their claim for another shot at the PROGRESS title. Current PROGRESS Champion Pete Dunne has announced that he will not be defending the title until September and the company’s Alexandria Palace show…so to appease the two hot headed competitors they will be getting a shot at the PROGRESS Tag Team Titles. The current champions Trent Seven & Tyler Bate are no slouches and this should be an absolute barn burner of a match, I’m expecting BSS to retain their titles here.
Travis Banks vs Keith Lee – As part of the Dunne/Banks build for September both men have been given the opportunity to decide their counterparts opponents on the Chapter events before Alexandria Palace. Pete Dunne decided that Banks should face EVOLVE standout Keith Lee in what is easily one of the biggest matches of Travis Banks’ career. This will be an absolute spectacle with two of the best in the world colliding for the first time in a PROGRESS ring. I’m going for a Banks win and yet another contender for MOTN
Pete Dunne vs Jack Sexsmith – If you have been following my PROGRESS reports for any length of time you’ll know how much of a fan I am of Jack Sexsmith. The charismatic performer finally gets his shot in the main event against the PROGRESS Champion Pete Dunne. Although this is a non-title match it is a chance for Jack to show his worth at the top of the card. PROGRESS Champion Pete Dunne has been producing some of the best work of his career ever since winning the title and his stock has only risen since his WWE UK Title win at NXT Takeover earlier this year. The current rumour is that Dunne will be leaving the company come 2018 and that this run as champion will be his swan song in the company.
Amidst all of the turmoil surrounding WCPW’s issues with YouTube they are still ploughing ahead with their regular Pay Per View events. ‘Built to Destroy’ takes place in Newcastle, England on June 16th and will feature a match to determine to company’s first ever Hardcore Champion.
PROGRESS star Jimmy Havoc will be taking on Primate to crown the inaugural champion. Both Havoc and Primate have a Hardcore pedigree in their wrestling style, Havoc in particular will be entering CZW’s Tournament of Death just six days prior to this event in the United States.
Tickets for ‘Built to Destroy’ are available to purchase via Ticketmaster.
Recently released WWE Superstar Simon Gotch has been announced for an independent show on UK soil this July.
Gotch will be performing for XWA at the Resistance Gallery in London on July 22nd. XWA has recently seen a surge in popularity since the appearance of Kota Ibushi. Kota’s Fireworks stunt garnered mainstream news coverage and has seemingly put XWA back on the UK Independent map.
Also announced for the show is Japanese star Sekimoto, Jimmy Havoc, former NXT star Bull James and Mark Haskins.
UK Superindie IPW:UK have announced that they will be returning to the Casino Rooms in Rochester, Kent on Easter Monday (April 17th) and that several Lucha Underground stars will be on the card.
Two matches have already been announced for the show; ‘The Villain’ Marty Scurll will be taking on Angelico and Big Grizzly will be facing Jack Evans.
Also announced for the show are Rey Fenix, Pentagon, Jimmy Havoc, Zack Sabre Jr and The London Riots. Tickets for the event are available to purchase through the IPW:UK Website.
It has not been confirmed whether the show will be available to view through FloSlam but keep an eye on the UK section of the site as we will post any updates as and when IPW:UK confirms.
Here are the results from PROGRESS Wrestling’s latest Chapter event – Galvanize. The show took place at the O2 Ritz in Manchester in front of a sold out crowd:
PROGRESS Tag Team Championship Match – British Strong Style (Tyler Bate & Trent Seven) b. Travis Banks & TK Cooper – The WWE UK Division competitors Seven & Bate successfully retained their Tag Team Title Shields against the South Pacific Power Trip.
Zack Gibson b. El Ligero – Gibson took the win against his former Origin stablemate using his ‘Helter Skelter’ signature move. Nathan Cruz appeared during the match to distract Ligero leading to the finish.
James Drake b. Jack Sexsmith – Sexsmith continues to prove himself as a viable competitor in PROGRESS even with this loss against Drake. This is Drake’s second win in as many Chapter appearances and he looks set to make a big impact in PROGRESS this year.
Mark Andrews b. Will Ospreay – The Number 1 Contender to the PROGRESS Championship Mark Andrews continues his hot streak with a win over NJPW star Ospreay. After the match Jimmy Havoc appeared to beat down the Aerial Assassin Will Ospreay in an attempt to stop him interfering in the main event.
Ringkampf (Walter & Axel Dieter Jr) b. The Hunter Brothers – wXw heroes Ringkampf continue to prove their worth to the PROGRESS faithful with a win over the Hunter Brothers
Flash Morgan Webster b. Nathan Cruz – Morgan Webster picks up the win in his first singles appearance for the company since his long layoff with injury. Cruz has now lost two in a row at Chapter events and he took his anger out on ‘Flash’ after the bout.
Jinny b. Nixon Newell – Jinny defeated NXT bound Nixon Newell to advance to the final of the Natural Progression series, she looks set to win the tournament and become the first ever PROGRESS Women’s Champion.
PROGRESS Championship Match – Pete Dunne b. Jimmy Havoc – Dunne retained his championship in an incredible deathmatch that involved thumbtacks, tables, barbed wire and an interfering Will Ospreay. After the bout Ospreay laid out Havoc and screamed ‘THIS HAS TO END.’
Fight Club: Pro just held arguably the biggest weekend of the company’s existence with two nights in the illustrious Fixxion Warehouse in Wolverhampton, England. Mark Haskins & Will Ospreay b. Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate
Nixon Newell b. Candice LeRae
Fight Club: Pro Title Match: Travis Banks b. Pete Dunne (c)
This show was hugely notable for two reasons. 1) This was Nixon Newell’s final FCP appearance before she departs for the WWE Performance Center in April and 2) after an arduous journey to reclaim his title Travis Banks has regained the Fight Club: Pro gold.
The two shows will be available to view via the FCP Vimeo on demand service within the week and as soon as they are it is definitely worth taking a look: vimeo.com/fightclubpro.

PROGRESS have announced two more bouts for their upcoming Chapter 45 event: ‘Galvanise.’
‘Flash’ Morgan Webster made his in-ring return at Chapter 44 when he teamed with Mark Haskins and Jimmy Havoc against British Strong Style. Although his team took the win it was Havoc that secured the winning pinfall, therefore Webster missed out on a PROGRESS title shot. His opponent for Chapter 44 will be Nathan Cruz, who himself lost at Chapter 44 against his former Origin stable mate El Ligero.
There is a lot at stake in this bout, the uncertain future of WWE contracted talents such as PROGRESS Champion Pete Dunne, Mark Andrews, Trent Seven and WWE UK Champion Tyler Bate opens the door for the next batch of possible main eventers to shine and there is certainly an opportunity for both of these performers to move up to that next level if necessary.
— PROGRESS Wrestling (@ThisIs_Progress) March 1, 2017
The next announced match is a Semi-Final bout in the Natural Progression Series tournament. This is the first Women’s tournament in company history and the winner will be crowned the first ever PROGRESS Women’s Champion.
Crowd favourite Nixon Newell will be taking on ‘heat magnet’ Jinny. This is Jinny’s first Chapter match in quite some time and she is likely to be win the entire tournament, a win for Nixon would be considered a huge upset but as PROGRESS are looking to establish their official Women’s division surprises could be in store.
One of the biggest matches in PROGRESS history took place this past Sunday at Chapter 44 ‘Old Man Yells at Cloud’ as Jimmy Havoc became the Number 1 Contender to Pete Dunne’s PROGRESS Championship.
As part of a 6-man tag team bout fan favourite Havoc pinned Dunne (a member of the stable British Strong Style) to earn himself a title match with a stipulation of his choosing. Havoc opted to cash in his title opportunity against the ‘Bruiserweight’ at Chapter 45: ‘Galvanise.’
It has also been confirmed that the match will be contested under ‘No DQ’ rules, which will suit Deathmatch specialist Jimmy Havoc. This match looks set to be an extremely bloody affair.
The second bout announced for Chapter 45 is for the PROGRESS Tag Team Championships. WWE UK Champion Tyler Bate and his British Strong Style teammate Trent Seven will be taking on the South Pacific Power Trip (TK Cooper and Travis Banks).
Travis Banks made his singles debut for PROGRESS at Chapter 44 in an excellent showing against fellow debutant Jordan Devlin, chances are that this may well be the breakup of the SPPT team as Banks looks set to be one of the breakout stars for PROGRESS in 2017.
IPW:UK have announced the details of their April 30th show set to take place at the Clapham Grand in South West London. Headlining this event will be UK fan favourite and renowned Deathmatch competitor Jimmy Havoc taking on the ECW original and Hardcore icon Tommy Dreamer.
IPW have also announced that Pete Dunne, Joey Ryan, The London Riots and Matt Riddle will be competing on what looks set to be a memorable show for the UK scene this year.
Tickets for the event are available to purchase through the IPW:UK site: www.ipwuk.com/events/2017/04/30/extreme-measures-2017
Here are the results from PROGRESS’ Chapter 44 event ‘Old Man Yells At Cloud.’ The show took place at a sold out Electric Ballroom in Camden, UK.
James Drake b. Damon Moser – This was a relatively shot match that saw WWE UK Tournament competitor James Drake won with the Mr Mayhem DDT. There are reports that Moser was injured during the bout thus the quick conclusion.
Dahlia Black (w/TK Cooper) b. Martina the Session Moth – This was a 1st round match in the Natural Progression Series to crown the first ever PROGRESS Women’s Champion as well as being Martina’s debut match for the company. Black took the win when TK Cooper interfered and cost Martina the bout
Travis Banks b. Jordan Devlin – Another PROGRESS debut here as WWE Tournament Competitor Jordan Devlin looked to beat tag team specialist Banks. Travis took the win after hitting a Buzzsaw Kick.
Pastor William Eaver b. Sebastian – Eaver took the win here after hitting the ‘Clothesline From Heaven’ in what was an extremely violent bout, definitely one worth watching on PROGRESS’ On Demand service.
Mark Andrews b. Shane Strickland – An absolutely fantastic match that saw Andrews win with the Shooting Star Press, after the match PROGRESS Co-Owner Jim Smallman asked Strickland to appear at the Orlando shows over Wrestlemania Weekend.
El Ligero b. Nathan Cruz – A hotly contested bout between two former Origin members saw Ligero take the win after reversing a Figure Four into an Inside Cradle. After the match Cruz removed Ligero’s mask.
Zack Gibson b. Jack Sexsmith – This match was all about Sexsmith proving himself as a viable championship contender for the company and it certainly felt like his ‘coming out party.’ Gibson hit the Helter Skelter for the pinfall win.
Jimmy Havoc, Mark Haskins & Morgan Webster b. British Strong Style (Pete Dunne, Trent Seven & Tyler Bate) – The stakes for this match were extremely high. If Havoc, Haskins or Webster got a pinfall or submission victory then they would receive a title shot, however if one of them took a pinfall, countout or submission loss then they would ineligible to ANY title shot for 6 months. Havoc ended up taking the victory and title shot following an Acid Rainmaker on PROGRESS Champion Pete Dunne.
PROGRESS have also announced more bouts for their Chapter 44 show: ‘Old Man Yells at Cloud.’ OTT star and WWE UK Championship tournament competitor Jordan Devlin will be making his company debut against UK Indie standout Travis Banks.
The other featured bouts currently announced are:
Mark Haskins, ‘Flash’ Morgan Webster & Jimmy Havoc vs British Strong Style
