WWE & Susan G. Komen Go “Pink” For Breast Cancer Awareness (Press Release)

The following was sent out on Sunday:

WWE and John Cena Go Pink With Susan G. Komen For The Cure

STAMFORD, Conn., September 16, 2012 – WWE (NYSE: WWE) today announced a partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure featuring WWE Superstar John Cena co-branded, pink and black ring gear, which will be debuted at tonight’s Night of Champions pay-per-view event in Boston. Cena will wear the Special Edition gear through October in honor of breast cancer awareness month. Fans can purchase the merchandise, including co-branded hats, t-shirts, headbands and wristbands, at live events and online at WWEShop.com, and WWE will donate 100 percent of its profits (at least 30 percent of the retail purchase price) to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest nonprofit funder of breast cancer research and community outreach programs. To support Susan G. Komen’s mission, WWE will utilize all its assets, including TV broadcasts, live events, digital and social media to generate awareness and encourage fans to get involved by signing up for “Race for the Cure” events in their local communities.

Approximately five million women — more female viewers than the top rated shows on women’s networks – watch WWE’s weekly programming.

“This partnership will reach millions of women and families with breast cancer education and awareness messages, while raising funds for Komen research and health outreach programs in the communities we serve,” said Dorothy Jones, Vice President of Marketing for Susan G. Komen. “We’re ready to cheer on John Cena and the WWE Superstars and thank them for helping Komen fulfill our promise to end breast cancer.”

“Breast cancer is a devastating disease, and we’re committed to using WWE’s global resources to support Komen’s fight to end breast cancer forever,” said WWE Superstar John Cena. “I’ll be proud to wear pink in the ring to support this great cause.”

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death among women in the United States. There are 2.9 million breast cancer survivors in the United States today. For more information about Susan G. Komen for the Cure, breast health or breast cancer, visit komen.org/wwe or call 1-877 GO KOMEN.

Kim Kardashian Buddies Up With Former Diva, John Cena’s Pre-Night of Champions Message, Maryse Loses Dog

– After reportedly being shunned by Beyoncé, Hollywood heavyweight Kim Kardashian has ‘wrestled’ up a new pal in former WWE Diva Stacy Keibler.

New York Daily News reports Sunday that Kim K. was spotted with the former Miss Hancock a number of times last week.

“They’ve known each other for years and have always been friendly, just not best friends,” said a source.

– As reported this morning, John Cena will debut new pink attire in recognition of breast cancer awareness at tonight’s Night of Champions pay-per-view event in Boston, Massachusetts. The Cenation leader addressed the charitable endeavor on Twitter this afternoon.

“2nite is a big nite as far as #WWENOC but it is also much bigger than that. Thank u S.G.K. For allowing me 2 be part of #riseabovecancer,” Cena wrote. “It is an honor to be partnered with the Susan G. Komen organization, a very proud day for all of @wwe Now time for #WWENOC.”

– Former WWE Diva Maryse Ouellet is currently on the lookout for her beloved dog Flake. The pet escaped from her babysitter’s home in Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles Saturday night while she was in Las Vegas, Nevada promoting her fashion line.

John Cena Debuting New Pink Gear At Night of Champions

John Cena will debut new pink attire in recognition of breast cancer awareness at tonight’s Night of Champions pay-per-view event in Boston, Massachusetts, according to The Boston Herald.

The publication released a photo of Cena donning his new threads late Saturday, which includes a black “Rise Above Cancer” T-Shirt with a pink logo and pink “Rise Above Cancer” cap.

Cena will be wearing his new gear through October, which is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, as WWE partners with Susan G. Komen for the Cure to eradicate breast cancer. The WWE Superstar has a personal reason for helping out the cause.

“One of the reasons I really wanted to do something with Susan G. Komen is because of my brother,” said Cena. “Early detection saved his life.”

Cena’s youngest brother, Sean, discovered last November that he had brain cancer.

“Sean’s doing extremely well,” said Cena. “It was an inoperable brain tumor, but one of the main reasons he’s done well is the early detection. I know it’s brain cancer and breast cancer, but that key is early detection.”

Though the partnership seems odd on the surface, there are more than five million women who watch WWE programming every week, making it the perfect match.

“It’s very exciting for us to be partnered up with Susan G. Komen,” said Paul “Triple H” Levesque, WWE’s Executive Vice President of Talent and Live Events. “The WWE and John Cena have such a large female fan base, so it’s important for us to support the people who have supported us for so long.”

New Details On How John Cena Feels About Turning Heel

ESPN personality Robert Flores appeared on this week’s MLW.com podcast and spoke with host Mister Saint Lauren about a conversation he had with John Cena and why Cena is against turning heel.

Here’s what Flores said about the situation:

“I’ve talked to John Cena about this and he doesn’t really want to because he does so much charity work and I think he thinks it would affect that and maybe it would, but I would just love to see him turn heel.

“I see guys like Miz and David Otunga, guys that are ‘heels,’ still continue to be involved with the company’s charity initiatives, so obviously Cena is on a different level when compared to those guys, but just being selfish as a fan, I think it would be fascinating TV to see him just turn heel and see the reaction it would get.”

“The thing is to be hungry all the time. But I’ve got the power to keep my hunger under control.”

John Cena takes down eight eggs and oatmeal for breakfast. At lunch, he has two chicken breasts, fresh vegetables and brown rice, and for dinner, grilled fish or chicken, brown rice, vegetables and salad.

– As reported Monday, Brodus Clay and Damien Sandow, who have been feuding on WWE programming in recent weeks, were scheduled to face off at SummerSlam but their match was nixed due to time constraints. Plans For The Rock vs. John Cena Rematch, More Celebs At Summerslam & More

– The Antonio Cesaro vs. Santino Marella US Title match that took place prior to SummerSlam was considered for the main card, but WWE decided the match would help viewership for the pre-show and went with that plan instead. WWE remains high on Antonio Cesaro and he is in line for a solid push this fall.

– Former WWE women’s wrestler Jazz has joined Twitter and can be followed at @Phenom_Jazz.

– Other celebrities in attendance for SummerSlam were LA Angels pitcher CJ Wilson and actor Eric Stonestreet (“Modern Family”).

– Another match between The Rock and John Cena will almost certainly take place, with Vince McMahon pushing for the re-match to take place at WrestleMania 29 next year. Despite last year’s marketing that the match was “Once In a Lifetime,” it made WrestleMania 28 the most profitable show in WWE history and there is likely a lot more money to be made with that feud.
