  • John Cena Talks About CM Punk Leaving WWE, The Rock & WM28

WWE Champion John Cena was interviewed by the Chicago Tribune this week to hype Sunday’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view, which takes place from the Windy City.

With CM Punk vowing to leave WWE with the WWE championship this Sunday, Cena knows Punk’s the atmosphere in Punk’s home town of Chicago will be electric:

“Chicago fans greeted me with a ‘(Expletive) you, Cena’ chant. Chicago fans cheer and boo who they want. They’re great fans whether they like me or not. They show you how they feel. I don’t like crowds that sit on their hands.”

One of CM Punk’s gripes in recent weeks has been that The Rock, who is no longer an active WWE superstar, made a brief return to the company earlier this year and is already booked for the main event of next year’s WrestleMania. Cena had this to say about Punk’s gripe:

“Here’s a guy [Punk] who literally is a pure-bred wrestler, who loves the business and loves being able to go out and compete. I can understand his frustration. But you can’t ignore the attraction of The Rock being involved.”

With all the negative things John Cena has said about The Rock turning his back on the WWE universe by retiring as an active competitor, Cena was asked why he hasn’t been as hard on CM Punk’s decision to leave. Cena responded:

“I know he’s not going to leave wrestling. He’s leaving WWE. There’s a difference. CM Punk doesn’t feel he’s been treated properly in WWE. We’ve had this problem before. MVP was another one who felt he wasn’t treated well and has gone on to have a prolific career in Japan. Same with A-Train. I have more respect for a guy who leaves the company to better himself in another territory. But all roads lead back to Rome. If you’re successful, you’ll find your way back.”

Regarding upcoming events, Cena wrote: “Last RAW before MITB. In Boston. I’m sure next Sunday in Chicago….the fans will be a little salty….maybe more than salty.”

    — Facebook deleted Maryse’s fan page last week.

“Hey Guyyyyys, Facebook deleted my FanPage, so I DO NOT have an account as for now,” she wrote on Twitter. “Check out frenchkissmaryse.com for updates. Be sexy.”

She wrote, “Wow! Haha people are blowing up my twitter. I’m glad everyone is as p#!@%*#ionate as I am when it comes to wrestling but you’re also feeding into these gossip reporting sites that blew a reply to someone out of proportion, but hey I guess it all comes with the territory.

Cena then grabbed the mic and put over CM Punk also putting over Punk and showing respect. Cena called Punk the best wrestler in WWE today and said their Money in the Bank match will be the match of the year – even bigger than he and The Rock at next year’s WrestleMania.

  • John Cena Talks About His Upcoming Match With CM Punk

WWE Champion John Cena was interviewed by the Chicago Tribune this week to discuss the upcoming Money In The Bank pay-per-view event which takes place from the Windy City on Sunday, July 17th.

With CM Punk’s upcoming departure from WWE, his industry-rattling shoot promo from Monday’s RAW and the disciplinary ramification that followed, the WWE title match between him and Cena is now looking like a must-see match.

Cena tells the Tribune that his match with Punk is still on, but there’s still enough time before the 17th for Punk to do something stupid:

“From what I understand, he’s suspended, but I think the match will happen. (Punk) reached an agreement to not talk badly about WWE. Technically, it’s two weeks before Money in the Bank, so he’s still got two weeks to screw it up for himself.”

Cena also put over the significance and magnitude of MITB, insisting anything can happen:

“WWE has a lot of events, but rarely do you see something this controversial and hostile. I think people will talk about Money in the Bank for years to come. It will be a great moment for Chicago. A guy like CM Punk on live TV, you don’t know what he’ll do. I’m prepared for anything.”

  • Orton Admits To Drug Overdose, Knocks Cena, Rock & Kelly Kelly

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton participated in an interview with Phoenix, Arizona based rock station 98KUPD promoting this week’s SmackDown tapings. Highlights from the interview are as follows.

    * Orton discussed his past issues with drug abuse, including an incident in 2006 where he overdosed, stopped breathing and his wife called an ambulance to save his life. Orton said he and his family discuss the bad choices he’s made in WWE’s upcoming DVD release, Randy Orton: The Evolution of a Predator

“I was ashamed of it for a long time, but now talking about it and getting it off my chest—when my in-laws and mom watches it, they’re going to cry. My wife talks about when I stopped breathing and the ambulance came,” Orton said.

    * Orton noted his recent concussion at a live event in Spain, saying the Raw taping the day after was “the biggest blur” and that he “couldn’t focus or concentrate.” He said it was the sixth concussion he had suffered, which had WWE worried. He said it was three years since his previous concussion, and that he had suffered some “bad ones” earlier in his career.

    * Orton was broached on the subject of not being able to say he’s a wrestler, but rather, a “WWE Superstar.” Orton added, “Honestly, a lot of things we’ve talked about thus far in this interview, they’d be upset with. I’m not like, ‘eff it,’ but I try to be real.”

    * Orton shared a story of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson trying to get him in trouble prior to WrestleMania. Orton said he gave his opinion on The Rock during an interview with ESPN—that he wasn’t buying his return speech about returning to WWE and never leaving again. Orton said Johnson called management and claimed the WWE Superstar slammed him and Triple H in the interview. Orton feels Rock mentioned Triple H to grab their attention even though he didn’t criticize “The Game” in the interview.

Orton said he had “got in trouble” and “made Vince mad” for his statements. He feels the interview was “blown out of proportion” and that Johnson should have confronted him over his remarks, rather than complaining to Vince McMahon and management.

    * Orton said Cena is “light years” ahead of everyone in WWE on the microphone, including The Rock. Orton then criticized Cena’s wrestling ability by laughing at his in-ring style.

“When I watch him, I feel he’s a little stiff, hard to move, robotic. It certainly hasn’t hurt him. I’m much better than John Cena, but on the mic, he’s light-years ahead of all of us, including The Rock,” Orton said.

    — Orton knocked the actresses who have portrayed his wife on television.

“Both those women were actresses. Not even actresses. They were like models who couldn’t act; it was awful. (hosts laughed) It actually ruined both segments because they couldn’t act,” Orton said.

    — Orton brought up Chris Jericho, who said he is missed as a locker room leader. When asked about Downfall on ABC, Orton said he doesn’t think Jericho received permission from WWE to host the game show. He said there was some conflict over the matter, but Jericho is the type to approach Vince McMahon.

“Jericho is type of the guy to go in Vince’s office and tell him this is what he’s doing and tough,” Orton said. “A lot of newer, younger guys are intimidated by Vince. They’re scared to knock on his door. Jericho—I miss him being around—would go tell McMahon what’s going on.”

    — Spured on by the hosts, Orton levied some unflattering remarks towards WWE Divas Champion Kelly Kelly after saying he worked a brief romance storyline with her a few years ago.

“I would be a method actor, and actually sleep with her,” joked host John Holmberg.

“I could name a few method actors in WWE,” Orton replied. “Like, ten guys.”

The hosts tried to pry names from Orton, who tried to deflect from the topic by joking that it’s all the big guys on the roster. Orton and the hosts continued to joke about who Kelly has or hasn’t slept with throughout the show.

    — Several other minor topics were discussed including his baby oil look, whether he’s defecated in the ring, wishing there were more wrestlers like Sheamus, Mark Henry being difficult to work with, and more. The full interview is available here.

If you just look at the timeline; those people loved the WWE, and they are my age and a little bit older, and they are starting to have family, and all of those young kids are getting interested in the program.
